Have you ever had a goat cheese pizza? Don't turn your nose up! Most people either love or hate goat cheese but with fresh local goat cheese from just up the street, Calico & Creme has mastered the art of the goat cheese pizza. We actually took the suggestion of ordering it from one of the owners (Elaine) one day when we couldn't decide what to get. When the owner of the place suggests what to get, of course you take the lead and go with it. Boy are we glad we did. We're hooked on them! Elaine also suggested to add tomato slices which we did and it really is perfect together. We've made it our own over the past few years by doing a semi Greek pizza and adding onions and black olives. Other favs are the taco salad which is lettuce, taco meat (cold), tomatoes, Doritoes and salad dressing. The dressing has a sweetness to it. A friend told me once that it was Italian dressing but I'm not sure that I agree. I do know that it is good and have made it a meal many times. Lastly, I love the tuna grinders. There's nothing fancy to the tuna salad but I think that's what makes it good. I usually love tons of stuff in my tuna but this is just mayo and it's excellent. It must be the brand of tuna that they use. I get it on a toasted grinder with cheese, lettuce and onions. It's served with a side of chips, a cup of dill pickles and an orange wedge. What more could ya need? Oh yeah! Ice cream!! They have the usual hard and soft serve ice cream flavors but no one makes black raspberry frozen yogurt like Calico does. It's the only place I get it because no one else has ever come close so I just gave up trying. I also like the cherry vanilla. This is not your usual ice cream scooper place however as the sizes are actual. If you get a kiddie, it's a teeny, tiny little scoop and then goes up from there so order accordingly. And if you visit Calico & Creme, be sure to allow plenty of time for your visit.

We went there on the plan to order the pizza because we heard it was good! We changed out mind after getting there and I got a cheeseburger. Worst decision of the day. The burger was ehh and was under-cooked when I asked for well done. The toppings were not all what I asked for and it was not the quality I expect when paying more than $5 for a burger. The service was not bad, the scenery is really nice with a great picnic/eating area. I'm sure they intend to do well on their food, but this time it was not up to par. I will DEFINITELY try the pizza next time, and leave another review at that point.

This is an amazing family owned place! Don and Elaine McKay are very friendly! They've got great pizza and homemade ice-cream! They have many other tasty things as well. My personal favorite is their Hot Fudge Sundae! Definitely family friendly here. They have swings and trees to climb. I've got fond memories going to this place often as a kid and recently again when I visited.
