We were looking for something a little out of the ordinary, not your typical hotel. For us, that can be a significant challenge since we also require a handicapped, wheelchair accessible room. In many cases, that rules out most Bed and Breakfasts so when we came across 'Old Mill on the Falls' in Hatfield, Massachusetts, we were thrilled. Upon arriving at the 'Old Mill on the Falls', we soon realized we had found the hidden gem of the Berkshires. From the moment we stepped out of our truck and heard the roar of the falls, we fell in love. The Inn was charming and the ambience of the falls makes for a romantic and relaxing get-away. If you are a true connoisseur of vintage and find open beams with all the charm of by-gone days, you will feel right at home. At Old Mill on the Falls, you will find tranquility and relaxation at a reasonable rate. Many times, when you ask for a Wheelchair accessible room, you are given the little white room stuck in the back, however, at Old Mill on the Falls, we found a fully equipped handicapped room, beautifully decorated with a lovely bathroom which was completely wheelchair acceptable. The bathroom had a large, wheel-in shower with a very secure and large wood bench; a well position handicapped toilet; an accessible sink; and a mirror so someone in a wheelchair can actually see themselves. So many people forget to put a mirror low enough for someone sitting in a wheelchair but this room was well thought out in every way. The Innkeeper was a very accommodating and welcoming. He had a lovely 3 course breakfast prepared every morning which was tasty and filling. We dined sitting by the window overlooking the waterfall while soft music played as it prepared you for the day to come. Everyone is very attentive and makes you feel at home from the moment you arrive, not to mention, the Innkeeper is an amazing cook. My favorite was his banana pancakes, although I was so full from the fruit and muffins, I didn't get to each as many as I wanted. Another item that was especially worth mentioning was the bed. We do a lot of traveling for our business and have been survivors of more hotel beds than we care to remember but the bed at 'Old Mill on the Falls' was the most comfortable bed we have ever encountered in a hotel of any kind. We were able to get sleep soundly and wake refresh. I think, if we could have, we would have gladly strapped the bed to the top of the truck and take it back home. All in all, this was one of the most pleasant stays we have ever had in either a hotel or Bed and Breakfast. We would highly recommended this property to anyone who enjoys a vintage building, antiques and peace and quiet. I am told, the room right by the falls that is spectacular. If you are challenged and need special amenities in a room, but still want that special Bed and Breakfast experience, this is the place for you. We can't recommend it enough and encourage anyone passing through to stop by and enjoy the Old Mill on the Falls...

This place is adorable. A friend and I stayed overnight a while back, and I loved our cozy room. The owner and his wife live on site, and were nothing but charming and friendly. He even asked if I had any requests for breakfast, and when I said I was vegetarian, he promised a veggie frittata, which was excellent. The room we stayed in was smallish and cozy, but had a really big bathroom and an amazing shower. The beds were perfect, and I slept like a rock. It was Fall when we were there, so I wasn't too upset about not having a waterfall-side room, but now I really want to go back in warmer months so I can fall asleep to that sound. The decor was a bit silly and frou-frou, but I think that just adds to the charm. I didn't notice the musty smell that others have mentioned, which surprises me, because I'm usually pretty sensitive to smells. Honestly, no complaints, I would go back here in a heartbeat.

Lovely inn, in a great setting on the river. Visited for a birthday escape. Very comfortable rooms, lovely inn keeping family, fantastic breakfast in the pretty sunny cafe. A bit off the beaten path but such a pretty locale. Hallway could use a bit of updating, rooms are a little little (feels a tad dormy) but overall a lovely b&b that we would highly recommend and return to! Great bed, fantastic shower, nice mix of updates and classic charm.

An absolute pleasure. Check-in and check-out were a breeze. The breakfast was superb - George and another employee were prompt and timed the different courses quite well. First day was fruit, scones, and quiche (with greek yogurt, cereal, OJ/cran juice, and tea available at a self-serve table), second day was fruit and an unbelievable baked tiramisu french toast. Perfect B&B style food - homestyle and hearty, yet light enough to not sit in your belly like a brick. Our room was right off the eating area so it sometimes got noisy at mealtimes, but we sort of enjoyed hearing muffled voices on one side of the room and light waterfall sounds on the other. We had 2 entrances, one from the dining room and one right off the front porch. The porch door was a tad drafty but that just contributed to the old-fashioned ambiance; plus, the epically soft comforter kept us plenty warm. There was also a space heater in our room, which was a nice touch. Perfect place for a romantic weekend away, and probably for families too. Northampton and Amherst are so close, there's a great local food coop about 2 miles away, there are lots of low-key hikes nearby, and Hatfield itself is a tiny little town perfect for a morning run or walk. There are also some great breweries and wineries within a short drive and we had a great time exploring. If it's raining, just enjoy the comforts of the Inn, grab some hot tea, and take advantage of the huge # of channels on the TVs :) George is great and deserves your business. He's a pleasure to chat with and cares so deeply for the comfort of his visitors. Overall, a great experience and we will definitely return!

I was so grateful to this Inn. We were in Western Mass for the memorial service for our dear friends passing, and this place was such a revery to be able to find peace and recuperation at. I thought the decor was wonderful. It felt elegant, but still comfortable. I still felt like I could touch everything in the room (unlike some more museum-like places), even though it was still very beautiful. It all looked very clean, cared for, and like the people put in a lot of time and thought. It was also in a cute neighborhood and our kids loved taking walks there. Our room faced these big beautiful trees, which just added to the peaceful and held feeling. We were there in March, I am sure the grounds are even more astounding in the other seasons. Even with snow around it was obvious there was a flower gardener about. The Inn keeper was kind, patient and attentive, but never too much so. I remember marveling at how well he played his role. Breakfast was wonderful. It was sculpted around our food sensitivities, and both meals were so good that they bordered on gourmet. After we had left, I woke up in my bed and was the slightest bit sad that we wouldn't get to "go to breakfast" : ) I think this place might be more expensive than other places, but since our kids were free (and allowed for that matter) this place was more affordable than many other options. I think the price difference would be worth it anyway, for the atmosphere and the kind attention that other places lack. The place just feels good to be at, and that is worth a lot.

Old Mill was the most reasonably priced B&B in the area ($115 a night), so we were excited to finally plan a little getaway. Once we arrived, the Old Mill was beautifully decorated for the season. The sound of the running water below us, pumpkins, leaves.... I knew we had picked a winner! I had read a few other reviews about the Old Mill, and one was that it smelled a little musty, which I agree... But what do you expect when the building is super old, and the place is filled with antiques? By the looks of this place, it seems it should be haunted. Our room was very clean and neat. The downside was that one of the bathroom lights were out, and the bed was really smooshy (we prefer firm). Regardless we made due and had a good night sleep. We woke up to get ready for 8am breakfast in the dining area. The plus about the Old Mill is that it is a B&B on a larger scale (9 rooms). You can enjoy your breakfast at a table alone rather than some of the smaller B&Bs where you meet the other guests by sitting at one large table. Ted, the owner was super friendly, and had our table set with fruit salad, muffins, coffee, tea and brought us strada (I never heard of it before but eggs and cheese = delicious). We had a great time taking in the view, hanging out in Northampton and celebrating my birthday. Thanks Ted!

Thanks to the previous Yelp reviews, I knew pretty much just what to expect when we came here. And though I wasn't exactly in love with our room, I believe we'll come back and stay again. I do love antiques, but the over-abundance of them, combined with the overly fussy drapes and bedspread, etc. made the room feel a little...less than perfectly clean. (The gigantic portrait of the creepy woman staring over us while we were sleeping was really funny, though.) Definitely bring your own toiletries: in our bathroom were free samples of shampoo and conditioner (like, the kind in a tiny packet) and only enough for one guest, though there were two of us. But I really enjoyed being there. Above all, the location cannot be beat--it's gorgeous--and the home-made breakfast (egg strata, warm muffins, fruit salad) was sweet too. A good deal, and I have lovely memories of our stay there.

Since the Old Mill hasn't had a review in a while I'm happy to oblige since I just had the pleasure of staying there. We enjoyed the Waterfall room and the roar of the waterfall is an experience. It's not quiet though so sound sleepers should choose another room. George was very hospitable and never a bother. Breakfast hearty and the sour cherry scones were delicious. No complaints here and will definitely go back in the spring/summer. Centrally located and not too overdone with the antiques and country style. It was just enough to stir conversation but not overwhelming. Definitely check it out if you're looking for a romantic lil inn in western mass. Thank You!!

What a find! We stayed on a cold March Friday night and found a pleasant, clean, warm haven. The bed was comfortable, shower warm and no-nonsense, the breakfast was Boston Cream French Toast--a rich but light treat we'd never had before. There is an inviting room with comfortable chairs for anyone who wants to read, knit, or enjoy a game on one of their deluxe traditional game boards. Very convenient to Northampton and Amherst. George, the proprietor is very service-oriented and friendly, but can also give guests their space. Recommend it without exception.

A lovely little inn, run by a couple of really nice guys. There are a few little glitches, but I'd definitely stay here again. Each room is different - we chose one overlooking the waterfall, and the sound was heavenly! The Inn is a quick drive from Northampton, but far enough away to be really peaceful. Packed with antiques, I appreciated the lengths they went to to keep the original mill architecture intact. My only quibble was that the quality of the toiletries/breakfast items was inconsistent with the upscale atmosphere (Pert Plus shampoo? Log Cabin syrup?). Some bubble bath would have been nice for the whirlpool tub (the Lever 2000 didn't do it for me). I stay at B&Bs to escape the ordinary, and I hope they'll upgrade to better products.

WHAT a beauty. I am a person who would much rather stay in a unique, charming place full of antique decor and an immediate feeling of coziness when you walk in - and this is the place. In fact, my boyfriend and I immediately began smiling the second we saw the inn from the outside. A 12 minute drive from the shops and culture of Northampton and Hadley, this is just a most exquisite place, and right on a waterfall! Georg, the innkeeper, was extremely accomodating, warm, friendly, and had a great sense of humor. The first floor has a large common area where one can relax on comfy couches and read old issues of LIFE magazine while sipping on locally-made coffee or tea. The second floor had our room with a great antique feel and THEE most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. My current bed is garbage compared to that. There are small coffee makers for each room, tv, and a nice bathroom with tub. As one guest suggested in a notebook at the inn: definitely crack the window an inch or two before snoozing so you can sleep/wake up to the sounds of the waterfall the small distance away. :) All of the amenities one needs are there. If you're the type that prefers gorgeous wooden board games of scrabble, chess, checkers, looking at paintings, and the aforementioned LIFE magazines instead of a big fitness center, this is indeed the place for you. We went off-season and during the week, and breakfast was a cappuchino, fresh croissants out of the oven, granola w/ yogurt, and juice. It was perfect and over breakfast, Georg gave us some great 'unusual' things to see in the area, including a BUTTERFLY HOUSE in Deerfield! I am still so happy over the decision to stay there; I don't think the fee was unreasonable at ALL and we were very happy with the personable service and our stay.
