Great Italian food! Not sure if you remember the original Vinny Marinos, but same owner and same yummy food. I love the Rhode Island style Calamari, but it's not for you if you don't like spicy. I also like the Chicken Parmesan as it's cooked to perfection and not to thin, not to thick... I guess that makes it just right

Two stars for the food, but five for the very good service. After reading nice reviews, we brought the family here only to be served sodden salads at $8 each, and heavily breaded veal parm, which, when I peeled off the coating, revealed a cardboard thin slice of meat of a color not usually associated with young calf. This was all slathered with a spicy red sauce and served with a pasta for another $21. Definitely not worth the cost. Maybe we all should have ordered something different. No wait! We did! And none of us liked what we got. Very popular place. Not sure we will return, though.

Although I've been here several times before, this is my first review of this restaurant. We have always enjoyed eating here and usually go with a couple of friends. The food is usually a 3 1/2 to 4 star rating which is more than passable for the price point here. The service is about the same. The problem I have that should be shared happened during the meal we had tonight. We called for a 5:00 PM reservation earlier in the day for 4 adults and 1 small child. When my wife and I sat down prior to our friends getting there we were informed that We would need to vacate the table by 6:30 due to another party needing that table. Our friends showed up a few minutes later and we ordered apps to get things rolling while they checked out which entrees to get. When our waitress came back to take entree orders she re-informed us that we would need to be done soon. She then asked if we thought that we were not going to be through and gone by 6:30 that she'd like us to move to a bar table. So we moved. It took us 2 hours to finish our appetizers, entrees and desserts. We wouldn't have made the 6:30 deadline. Other than one of the high chairs being a stool (which we swapped out ourselves) it was fine to sit there. It just strikes me as being very unprofessional on the front of the house management to try and squeeze a table in so soon after us or so soon before the 6:30. It puts the server at a disadvantage from the start. I was in the reataurant industry for 10 + years and never heard of anything like that. I'm not sure I will give them any more of my business. I'd probably feel different if the manager apologized or explained their position but this didn't occur.

Came here Sunday night. Good points? Buzzy place with great atmosphere with punters clearly enjoying themselves. Service is good, if a little too quick. We'd had our food for 5 minutes when we were asked if we'd finished. The restaurant is accommodating; they substituted veggies for pasta. Portions are huge, if you like that sort of thing. Bad points? Our veal Marsala with mash and broccoli arrived very shortly (i.e. less than 10 mins) after we ordered it. Never a good sign. Food was lukewarm and tasteless. Veal and bacon was chewy and tough. In fact the meal was so disappointing that I started on the bread basket. Unfortunately that too was dry, hard and unappetizing. Hmm. I would like to give it 3 stars for the atmos, but the food was so poor that I can't. If I'm in the area I would definitely stop in for a drink only.

Popped in this past Sunday while waiting on an oil change at the dealership. Overall, a solid place in the area for brunch. I tried their eggs florentine benedict and my daughter had chocolate chip pancakes. Both were prepared well and the pancakes were very good. My only wish was that they offer other variations like the crab cake or lobster eggs benedict. Service was nice albeit a little slow.

Ginormous portions! Guess more for family style instead of individual portions... We ordered the rice balls and our server told us it was small, and you'll only be able to take 2 bites...when it came out, these little rice balls were hugh! More than 2 bites, it was filling...so don't be fooled...but we then quickly realized all the food portions are huge, and yes, compared to the other menu options that was a small plate. I got the frutti di mare with everything-shrimp, calamari, clams, and mussels. MY GOD. Tons of mussels! The most mussels I've ever seen on a frutti di mare! I'm guessing this was suppose to feed 3-4 people...I ate half of it on my own. It was quite tasty, my only problem with the dish was that the homemade pasta was a bit sticky. It clumped and I probably would have prefer a store bought pasta. So wrong I know, but the mushiness of the homemade pasta was not appetizing. Service was nice. Vinny even came around to say hi and tell us his story with Mohammed Ali. Funny buff little Italian man. Reminds me of Jersey Shore.

I love the food at the Brick House but I wasn't too thrilled tonight when I called from the road and made a reservation and when he said how many I said two adults and a baby. When we arrived there were two high chairs in the middle of the floor and so when we were seated I asked if we could have a high chair. She stated that a party who called and reserved days ago had two kids and they only have two high chairs. This was never mentioned to me over the phone. I have a very wirey 9 month old so I asked what I was supposed to do. It was 4:30. I asked when the other party was coming and she said 5. I said can I use it at least till they arrive? She said she didn't think that would be a good idea. You know what would have been a good idea? Telling me all of this when I called on the phone and mentioned that I had a baby. I also think it is time for them to order a few more high chairs. Honestly who only has two? I was extremely dissapointed. It will be a long time before I go back. Anyone with kids I guess reserve the highchair if you go here or you may have to turn right back around like I did.

What a great local find!! You won't be disappointed. My boyfriend and I went last night. We shared a ceaser salad which was big enough to share. All good lettuce no brown stuff. It had just enough dressing and the croutons I could tell were home made. I had the mussels app with a spicy red sauce--yummy! My boyfriend had the salmon -- cooked perfect and a large piece for the price. His came with two sides and they let him pick what he wanted... And last but not least, they start you with bread with oil--you WILL eat carbs and not regret it! Can't wait to go back. The place had a good vibe.

Fantastic fresh, homemade food and warm, personal service. Brickhouse does everything right. Stopped by with our three starving hockey playing sons and everyone left satisfied, full and happy. Appetizers, entrées and desserts were all great. We'll make a special trip to come back!

Best chicken parm around. I have never had a bad meal here. The staff is delightful the atmosphere warm. I would say this is the best Italian food in Dedham west Roxbury. Don't fear the Parkin. You can park next door or across the street.

We were a big family group (9) on a busy night but service worked and most liked their food. Really enjoyed the mussels as an app. Plenty of mussels with a slightly thick sauce that was tasty. They didn't do a good job of explaining what "dish" sauce meant. Those that ordered veal with the side got nice veal scaloppini but the "dish" sauce had the veal cut up into the pasta and sauce. Ok, but not how I enjoy my veal. The meatballs are hugh, but good. My nephew didn't want the meatball on his combo but they insisted on bringing it as a side and the rest of us all had some. Would be interested to try this place with a smaller party and see what we think. Parking was a challenge but it looks like across the street is the choice. Small neighborhood and a one way street that was confusing for our first time.

Not really that great. I have had better. I think there are pretty generous reviews for this place that isn't to deserving.. Pizza was blah. No flavor. Sausage on pizza was not very tasty, nor the meatballs on the Brickhouse Pizza. Burgers were so, so. The chicken parm was very good and the French fries. That was about it. Wouldn't go back. Parking is also dangerous as you have to cross a main drag to get to cafe.

My family and I went for breakfast this morning. Our waiter was very inattentive. My son had to go and get us silverware and napkins. My eggs Benedict were so bad I sent them back. The eggs were undercooked, the hollandaise sauce must of been made from a mix. My home fries were cold and tasteless. We had to go and look for our waiter to take our order!!

I don't see what all the negative posters were up about. Sure everybody has a bad day but I gotta say this place was great on the first visit; so great in fact we're returning within the same WEEK for visit number two. Need I say more? OK, I will. Both the rice balls and eggplant appetizers were outstanding. The Italian Combo Plate special was superb, and the bread pudding dessert a la mode was excellent. Portions were huge so we split everything and ordered less; this made it quite reasonable in price. Very friendly and competent service. Excellent margarita prepared tart just as we ordered it. Homemade breads and garlic oil for dipping were great. My only complaint is that it's a bit loud in the dining room but then again people are having a good time here. I don't wonder why. Update: OK, we've had the second visit. The stuffed mushroom special appetizer was delicious. The chicken parmesan was excellent. Now for the bad news; the cannoli dessert was disappointing. I guess we should have gone with the recommended desserts from other bloggers. But we struck out on our own, and it was a mistake. The pastry shells were none too fresh and quite hard and thick. yuck. The Lemon cheese filling was uninspired... though the fresh strawberries on the side helped a lot. But because of this, I'm downgrading from five to four stars. I guess I was right; everybody does have a bad day.

I went here with a big group of my girlfriends. Parking is pretty lousy. We had to dodge street traffic to get to the restaurant from across the street. They could not accommodate us at one table. We were spread out at 3 different tables (there were 12 of us) Firstly, the bread was very good. I got a chicken verdicchio dish with prosciutto and sun dried tomatoes. It was okay. Certainly edible. Perhaps I made a poor choice. I think I expected cheese to be on it, and there wasn't any. So, I started with disappointment. Service was good. It drives me crazy when I am told that I only get one free refill on my soda. Cheap! I might give this place one more chance, but I wont be running back.

Have visited twice for late dinner after long day of work. The ribs the first time and a grilled combo special the next. The ribs were in both and they are standard, average meaty with a sweet bbq sauce. The chicken in the combo was a little dry, the tips were done perfectly but still nothing exceptional in flavor. They goofed in giving me rice instead of mashed - but handed me a side of mashed quickly. Service at the bar was OK, personable and since there are a lot of regulars - that means you might have to wait while they smooze. No biggy - at least when they do look around they're making eye contact. Some Kentucky Wildcat fans next to me got some pizza - looked very good but the Brickhouse was low on cheese and they had to request grated Parmesan cheese to be added. They also made a good point on the grilled combo I got .... "what the hell you ordering bbq in an Italian restaurant". Point made. Nothing wrong with this place - but nothing exceptional either ..... at least not yet.

This is a very good, casual Italian Restaurant. Great atmosphere. Parking is a little challenging, but the food is worth it. The portions are generous, and the restaurant pays attention to detail with homemade breads, outstanding meatballs, and homemade ravioli that will have you questioning yourself why you never order ravioli anymore. If possible, try to save room for dessert. They have some bread pudding options as well as twists on creme brulee like Baileys Irish cream brulee. You should know the restaurant is not large, so if you are going with more than 4 people, you might want to get reservations. We also had friendly and attentive service from the staff.

Gross, gross, gross. Should have written this a long time ago but haven't been in the area for a while. Long story short, I ordered a red pasta dish. I saw the server put their finger in the plate and then swirl the pasta with their HAND to make some sort of a fancy mound before sauce added. Apparently pasta is pre-made and heated by the sauce. I'm no bacteria phobe but this was the grossest thing I had ever SEEN done at a restaurant. My stomach was turning as you never know where those hands have been or when they were last washed. I know that a lot of chefs use their bare hands to prepare dishes but you alway hope they have good hand hygiene. I let it be known to the server what I had seen and they totally denied it. I wouldn't even give one star but that isn't possible on here.

Italian combo special was very good. Pizza was also good. The fra diavlo was a bit over the top spicy. My lips were still slightly burning when I left. Dining room was very small. Parking was a bit difficult too. Prices were also on the high side.

Hi there, I recently returned to Brickhouse for a meal with the family. Last time we had pizza, apps, beer. Outstanding. This time we had some of the main pasta dishes. They were good. But pricey. Entrees were around the 20-25 dollar range. In my opinion, this is too much for pasta and a few toppings. If these dishes were 15-20 dollars, I would have been impressed. Stick to the pizza, meatballs, and great atmosphere. Rob

Lately when I drive by Brick House I've been noticing that there's a bigger crowd and that the place looks nicer than it used to. So we gave it a try the other night and indeed there was a big crowd and a nice large bar and some very nice people behind it. The wine list (and I'm always looking at the chardonnay) was okay. I had the chicken piccata which was good, as were the freshly cooked and plentiful (there must have been a half pound of broccoli) vegetables. A lot of people were ordering the pizza and it looked so good I almost broke my rule of never ordering pizza except at a pizza parlor. Everyone there must live or work in the neighborhood because the parking area is almost impossible to find. That must cut down on the crowds and might have been the reason we could find 2 seats at the bar on a Friday night at 8. I'll go back.

A great Italian restaurant with friendly service. This is a great place to come and watch the game or just catch up with friends and family. We got a pizza - half Bella Vista and half Margherita. To be healthy, we also got a generous side of broccoli. The barback did an excellent job keeping our water glasses filled. The waitress was friendly but not overbearing. On a Friday night, there didn't seem to be too much of a wait but it was crowded enough that you felt that you were hanging out with the cool kids.

This place is SO Yummy! Definitely worth the annoying parking situation and the long waits on Saturday nights. The food here is so good. It's a small restaurant so seating is tight and it gets loud very quickly but overall definitely a good place to keep on the list of place to go.

This started as a 4 and upgraded to a 5 when I ate my left overs. Got the mixed grill special. Ribs, steak tips, chicken parm, fries and broccoli. All great. Tips were awesome. Patricia, our server was great. Will definitely return.

Only rating one star because of bartender L with blonde hair. Never smiling, doesn't check on her customers, too busy chit-chatting with co-workers. A frequent occurrence and not an isolated matter. A real downer because otherwise this is great spot. A smile goes a looooong way.

Terrible experience. Our apps came before our drinks did, which our waitress tried to justify by telling us "Our bartender isnt here" This statement was made ever more apparent when my martini came to the table with 3 bugs in it. But I'll get to that later. When the waitress finally did come by to take our order, two members of my party both ordered a marsala dish, the two did not taste at all alike, one of which was so overloaded with sweet wine that she could not finish more than half of her dish. When we made our concerns known to one member of the wait staff, we were told it "wasnt his job" and were shot awful looks upon asking to speak to someone whose job it was. And even when this "manager" came to our table, he did nothing but attempt to make us feel bad for having issue with the food, all while subjecting us to robotic sounding responses. All in all, I wasn't impressed. The dining room was loud and packed full of the owners own press clippings and photos. I never felt comfortable in this place, and the way the staff treated us only furthered that feeling. Avoid at all costs.

The Brickhouse Cafe is an awesome unpretentious cafe with ample parking, great food, reasonable prices and a wonderful vibe. The calamari, meatballs and Italian rice balls are all terrific. My only caution is that portions are generous; my advice is go easy on the appetizers if you are ordering dinner. The ceasar salad is unique; it comes in a very cool bread bowl. After wolfing down salad and appetizers I was done but the dinners and pizzas going by looked so good I will be back. Service is prompt and friendly. PS: They pour a solid drink and a super generous glass of wine.

We had an Engagement Brunch at the Brickhouse Cafe and it was outstanding. The atmosphere, the food, the drinks and the service could not be beat. Many of the guests commented that they have never seen that kind of service before and how delicious the food was. The catering manager, Jocelyn, could not have been more professional, kind, and accomodating. Chris, the waiter, wooed the crowd. He was fun, and sweet, and could not have been more helpful. They allowed us to pick the setup of the room to meet our needs and helped put up decorations (and remove them). I have already been back for a delicious Sunday brunch and plan to go back for the chicken broccoli ziti dish. I am so glad we decided to hold the event at the Brickhouse Cafe instead of at our house. For the value and the service it was so worth it. What fun!!!!

We live in the area and have eaten at the Brickhouse a few times. It has never been fantastic, but our latest visit was by far the worst. We had 8 for breakfast on a recent Sunday morning. Our waiter was inattentive even surly at times. After ordering we waited over 45 minutes for our eggs and French toast. The waiter never came back to refill our drinks nor apologize for the wait time. Looking around the restaurant it was clear everyone was in the same situation (and the restaurant was far from full). I don't think I will give them another chance.

Great breakfast! Lots of really good quality food, and very affordable. And, there was no line out the door. We were headed to one of our normal breakfast spots, but they all had lines out the door. Brickhouse has plenty of parking, no line, and plenty of seating. And you get a ton of food for a good price. Dinner is good too, but we were really impressed by breakfast. Try the eggs Blackstone, an Italian spin on Eggs Benedict. We will be back for breakfast, but I will go for a run and work up a bigger appetite beforehand next time.

Food is great, Grilled Combo is the 3 best things assembled on a plate. Would've been 5 stars is waitress paid more attention. Also witnessed an arrest mid date of another couple. Girl taken outside, guy sipped his beer and remained seated. *Awesome entertainment value*

Fun place especially the bar, like old home week. Food is average, some great, some not so good. Stay away from the meatballs. although they are big in size, they are not great for your eating pleasure. Bartenders are always pleasant and sunday brunch is great. Pizza could be better especially when you are so close to Boston. Wine list is not so great, but the overall experience is fun for a neighborhood place. I have had some terrific meals here (cheesburger and sometimes chicken Parm). The problem is consistency. My suggestion is to sit at the bar and share a few entrees to judge for yourself. Of course, I will try it again

I loved the Brick House--I have been once for dinner and once for breakfast. Everything is fresh and organic. I especially love the fresh baked bread and dipping oils for dinner. For breakfast, the signature pancakes were to die for. Recently, like any other good place the Brick House received a review in the Globe and now it is so hard to get reservations on a weekend evening. Enjoy.

so good- and coming from someone who never eats Italian out. Great service, very homey feel but gorgeous redesigned interior. The eggplant appetizer is incredible and the steamers are way fresher than legal seafood (who i also like, but this is certainly cozier) All in all, a comfortable, delicious night out. Make a reservation though- they are usually packed!

Going to try and be short and sweet. This place is great! Italian food pretty much at its finest in a small casual atmosphere. Pizza is some of the best around. Staff has always been friendly and who can forget the owner, Vinny, a retired boxer, making his rounds checking on his guests! Only downside is the small space. But due to a recent addition they have almost doubled the seating capicity. If you are looking for dinner on a friday or saturday, be sure to call a day or two...or three in advance. Seats fill up quick!

Chicken ziti and broccoli in a bread bowl is heaven! I don't really want to tell anyone about this place because its that good. The food, the service, and the atmosphere are great. We love coming here for a casual dinner. My only caution would be that this place gets crowded fast. If you want to eat at prime dinner time, make a reservation. Otherwise, it could be a long wait. The bar area is always full and the people are great. We have met many neighbors and even spotted Mayor Menino here a time or two. Great Italian food in a small house.

Great neighborhood location and friendly staff. The veal parm is excellent and for brunch I love the steak tip sub. The rice balls are another favorite. From what I have seen you cannot go wrong with anything you order here.

I cannot fathom why anyone would subject themselves to the blatantly rude treatment by the astonishingly unpleasant and outright mean hostess. For a giant bowl of fattening pasta? Really? Not a chance in the world I would ever return. In fact, I cannot explain why I did not walk out before eating other than the fact that it was a Friday night. The hostess was so obscenely abrupt, even after making me "wait to be seated", when our table was there, ready and there was no one else waiting- just to leave us staring at her while she did nothing. But then, adding further inappropriate insult -to be told we had to get out within 90 minutes. Who tf does she think she is and WHERE does she think that she works. The restaurant is so rediculously not special, common and insignificant- that only people interested in huge portions of cheap pasta would put up with such treatment, Read other reviews!! We were NOT the first to be subject to her. I hope the owner reads this as that woman needs to be fired!!!!!!!!!!!!

This place has pretty good food, I usually always get the whole wheat pizza or eggplant parm, both of which I would recommend. The downside is I have occasionally gone there and received sub-par service, waitress not really super dedicated but I have been a waitress myself many years ago, so I kind of understand getting frustrated on super busy nights. If youre not a stickler for perfect service I would say give it a shot as the food is good and would be worth trying.

I'm stingy with five star reviews, which is the only reason I am not giving Brickhouse Cafe a a 5-star rating. The food was perfect, but I only had an eggplant parmeson appetizer with a meatball the size of my head. My beer was good. My server was good. The bread was soft, warm, and delicious - served with a generous portion of roasted garlic, olive oil, and spices. I have no complaints, but I should really stop back and try more. Maybe then I'll give them 5-stars.

love the atmosphere and the food here. i have always found a parking space whether across the street or right next door. I love the salmon dinner and my kids love the pizza's and the pasta dishes. my daughters favorite is the chicken marsala. my favorite waitress is Jocelyn! she is soooo awesome! sit at the bar and have some wine and apps and catch the game on the flat screen tv's or get a cozy table in the bar, by the window or wherever! everyone is so friendly there, especially Eva the hostess:)

I cannot recommend this place. My salad was drowned in dressing which made it very soggy. The place is overpriced. The salad I got was $24. The veal Marsala was made up of very small pieces of meat. I have been here many times but it has gone down hill and got very pricey for what you get.

Mixed bag resulting in a 3-Star rating on my first visit. The apps we got were tasty and reasonably sized for the price. There were three of us in my party, and two of us, including myself enjoyed our mains. I had the rigatoni dish and would order that again. I would caution you to stay away from the meatballs, which I got as a side. They are big and look appetizing, but they had a too-thick crust on the outside and were a bit dry and bland. Definitely not made that day, and if they were shame on them. One of our party got a pizza and it was simply substandard. Tasted like they used their marinara instead of a proper pizza sauce, and it was bland until you hit a basil strip, and then it was too much. Service was below par - slow and infrequent. Most frustrating was waiting 15-20 minutes for them to take my credit card so I could pay, and this was on a slow night. I can't pan the place because 2/3 of us liked our dishes and the apps (arancini and involtini) were quite good. There is definitely enough to choose from on the menu to bring me back. It's also a cute neighborhood spot. The place needs to pay attention to detail just a bit more to take it up a notch. And rethink that pizza sauce.

We love this place! We have been here several times, week nights, weekend nights, and Sunday brunch. We have gone as a couple, with friends, and with family. We have been wonderfully satisfied every time. We have tried many things on the menu and have never been disappointed. Great fresh ingredients, excellent blending of flavors. I love the thin-crust pizza, and recommend the whole wheat crust. I have enjoyed several of the meat and fish dishes too. Brunch was stand-out incredible. Enormous servings (sorry waistline!). The sausage is no little breakfast sausage, it is a healthy serving of homemade sausage nicely grilled. Service is always an A+. We are slowly learning all the names of the very nice staff. And of course Vinny, the owner, is there. He is a former boxing star, now somewhere in his 80's (estimation), in great shape, and warm with the crowd. The place can be packed on weekend evenings, so be prepared to wait. Reservations are available. It is not a quiet, intimate place, and can be a little noisy around the bar. The other guests have always been warm and friendly too--easy conversation at the bar with nice strangers while you wait on your table. Try it!

this was my first trip to brickhouse for dinner - i have been for brunch before as well. i had a pasta dish that was great and fried calamari as an appetizer. the calamari was delicious! i did try their red sangria and was not a huge fan - it was not very sweet. the atmosphere is cozy and the service was wonderful. when i went for brunch, the food was yummy as well. i love that they offer brunch on saturdays as well as sundays :)

All positives for my first of many visits Veal parm is insanely good. plate was about 2 feet wide. Crispy outside, tender inside, just how daddy likes it. Highly recommend the Arroncini appetizer. Felt like I could walk on the moon after this one Portions are huge, service is top notch. Great bar with a friendly atmostphere. For the Value, not a better option I can think of around the area. with 2 entrees, appetizer, and 4 glasses of wine bill came to 73 dollars. And we had leftovers...

A great neighborhood hideaway! Like Mama used to make style Italian style meals. Vinny uses his Moms recipes for many items on the menu. This restaurant is always busy.

My husband and I, along with our grown children have been having dinner @ the Brickhouse for several years. We come for a wonderful dinner and good service ourselves, as well as birthday and anniversary celebrations with our children. The past few times I have called to make a reservation, the person making the reservation has rudely told us we had a 90 minute limit. I have, until now, ignored her rude, insulting behavior because the food and service more than made up for her unpleasantness. Until today.... I called at around 4:30pm to make a reservation for 3. It is my daughters 30th birthday and, last minute, we decided to take her out for an intimate celebration.(we have already made plans for a larger family celebration elsewhere next week) After making the request, the woman on the phone said, " You want a reservation Tonight???? in a nasty tone. I understand it was last minute, and I was just taking a chance they had something. But really, all she had to say was " I'm sorry, but we don't have anything for tonight... I wouldn't have been upset. She gave me an 8:00pm reservation with the familiar admonishment of the 90 minute limit. This is simply rude and a poor way of dealing with their customers. I have eaten in much better and smaller restaurants in the North End, and elsewhere, and NEVER been told I had a 90 minute limit.. This is unheard of! I will NEVER spend my money here again!!!!

We were a party of 10 with a reservation at 5pm. My uncle, a disabled Purple Heart Vietnam Vet with a cane, arrived first and asked to be seated. The hostess refused to seat him until the entire party arrived. The restaurant was entirely empty aside from a few people at the bar. Five minutes later, when the entire party was there, the hostess sat us without a smile or welcome and said that we had to be out by 7pm because they had another party coming in. Before even opening the menu, we felt rushed. I was shocked by the rudeness of this individual. It was a shame because we live 2 minutes away and come frequently as we enjoy the food, but after this experience, we won't be back. I truly hope this hostess is let go as she will leave a bad taste in the mouths of all guests. As we left the restaurant, there was no thank you or goodbye. She just ignored us entirely. Disgusting behavior.

Sports Bar with really, really good food! We had simple stuff, but it was delicious. That's why I said 5 stars- it's hard to make everyday fare seem superb. Chicken parm sub, fresh (not frozen) crispy cutlet, perfectly sauces, bubbling cheese and cruchy, toasted bread. My sone had a grilled cheese, and I think it was the best grilled cheese he's ever had. The service was attentive, and the waiter/owner could not have been any nicer. Great place to watch a game. Comfortable 2 and 4 tops around the bar. Watched the little league world series with my little leaguer and he was thrilled. We'll be back for the first Pats game.

I LOVE this place. It's very cozy and has delicious Italian food: My favorite was the Seafood Stuffed pepper, and the Arancini. I made a meal out of those two and it was just perfect! I've also had the eggplant Involtini, which is to die for!!! We usually sit at the bar, and talk to the lovely bartender Lori. She's very friendy, and makes DELICIOUS martinis. Go on a tuesday for their Martini Speicals night.

I wish I could give a review of the food - but we couldn't even get a table! I found this place by searching Yelp and was so excited to try it. We went on a Sunday at around 5:20. It opens at 5:00 and we thought we'd be smart to go early. It is a very small place. About 10 tables, plus a small bar area. We had a party of 4 and they couldn't accommodate us. There were several empty tables but they were just waiting for reservations, I guess. Not sure I'll make the trip back to try the food (though the reviews are enticing!) since it was kind of a hassle to park (the streets all surrounding it are one way the wrong way and if you miss it - which is easy to do since it looks like a house when you first drive by it - you have to find a place to turnaround) and because it's so small there's no chance of getting in without a reservation. Major bummer - plan ahead!

Brickhouse Cafe is a definitely hidden, and it might just be a gem. I've lived in this area for four years, and never before did I recognize this quaint brick house as being a restaurant. It's not only "just a restaurant", but it is actually quite good. The smell of garlic permeates your nose as you sit at the bar (it seemed like a reservation was necessary to get a table) and gaze at the various boxing memorabilia hanging on the walls. From what I could gather from these artifacts, the owner was once a boxer, and later attempted to combine his two loves, boxing and Italian cuisine, within four walls of a restaurant. He seems to have been successful at least in one respect, as my tastebuds continue to be saturated with roasted garlic from the olive oil concoction served with our bread. The fresh-tasting Verdicchio sauce spread atop my multigrain spaghetti (~$17) was also impeccable. In addition, two portions of leftovers remained after I had finished. With regards to the "other" theme of the restaurant, the boxing gear and newspaper clippings are limited to the bar area, and are actually quite interesting to read/view. On display, there was even headgear that was allegedly used in the first Rocky movie. If his purpose was to display his valued boxing possessions, then I suppose he succeeded in that respect as well. Brickhouse Cafe is certainly a place worth revisiting. Just be sure to find a parking spot in the lot across the street, or else you might be out of luck!

Came here for dinner and it was delicious. Warm and cozy dining room and a good bar. Food was good, calamari for an app was crispy and delicious. Hubby had the meat ball pizza and thought it was ok. I had the mixed seafood pasta with mussels, clams, etc and it was pretty good. The waitress was attentive, but not annoying. We'll definitely go back.

First time we have been here. food was very good, portions were huge. Had the Chicken Brocolli & Ziti in a breadbowl. Interesting adding a bread bowl to a carbed out meal but was pretty good. 2 in the party had a mixed grill special which came with ribs, tips and chicken parm. The salmon was excelent and the bread served before the meal was also pretty good. Nice bar, a little on the pricey side for a small neighborhood place, but will definitely be back.

We went here Saturday night so my husband could carbo-load for the James Joyce Ramble. We got there around 6:15ish, and already the place was hopping. I was judgemental, and didn't think we'd need reservations. It's not in a high-traffic area, so for some reason I figured we'd be able to walk in and get a table for ourselves and our girl. We did get a table, with the promise we'd be out of there by 7:30 for a reservation. We agreed. Like other posters, we loved the bread and oil dip. It was interesting to get a multi-grain bread as well as the usual italian bread for dipping, a nice change of pace. We ordered the arancini for an appetizer. I had never had them before, and was curious. These fried rice-balls were yummy! Besides the rice, they were filled with peas, parsley, and mozzarella! The combo was well -balanced for flavor. Four of these balls were served with marinara sauce, and fresh shaved parm on top. Even the almost-two-year-old was saying "nummy!" When we dug into our entrees, both my husband and I looked up at each other, and I'm pretty sure the only words we said were "oh my." THAT GOOD. I had the chicken piccatta. The chicken was perfectly cooked (not too dry which can happen when it's pounded thin), and the sauce wasn't greasy - another piccatta downfall. It was served with a side of linguine marinara, which gave me some of the pasta and sauce to taste. My husband ordered the ravioli and meatballs. The two meatballs were tennis-ball in size. While he said the ravilolis were good, he was in heaven with the meatballs. From my sampling of one, I'm pretty sure it was a meat-veal-pork combo. The marinara was not your usual bright red, goopy sauce you get out of a bottle, or from a chain place. This was a chopped-tomato and spiced sauce that just screamed "signature sauce." I would have been happy with a bowl of it and a few slices of bread and butter. While they don't have high chairs, they did have booster chairs and a kid's menu. The waitress was extremely accommodating when I asked for my daughter's sauce to be served on the side (so she could dip her pasta in it; not as messy). We will definitely be going back to try other dishes. I saw plates going past me that I know I have to get a taste of!

A quaint, local joint that leaves you satisfied with leftovers! I liked this place because: -it has local flavor -prices and portions are great -Italian comfort food for suburbanites -fresh sliced Parmesan cheese topped on every pasta dish Located near the Dedham/West Roxbury line near McGolf, it's a great place for a weeknight meal if you don't want to cook. I can't believe it took me this long to try this place out. The restaurant has standard 2 tops and small booths with the restaurant split down the middle between the dining area and the bar. They have a page of specials and a large menu. I tried one of their specials, called "The Italian Combo." It was a entree portion of an appetizer sampler! I was able to try a little bit of everything that Brickhouse offers. Their ravioli was standard, the giant meatball was so good with a salty balance, the chicken parm is tenderized and that fried crust is to die for! Then they throw in a nice side of linguine! My friend had the chicken Caesar Salad which comes in a large pita bowl for dipping and scooping up the salad. I was satisfied, especially with the price. My entree was only $16! I will be back and probably becoming a local here!

Went here for dinner with my Dad tonight while visiting from out of state. Apparently it's a pretty popular place because he & my Mom tried to go over the weekend but it was too crowded so they had to leave. It is on the small side, so that might explain the weekend craziness but it has a nice cozy atmosphere inside. The staff were friendly & helpful. It took awhile for them to bring the bread but it turns out they were waiting for a fresh batch to come out of the oven. My Dad & I both ordered the chicken & broccoli & we both thought it was yummy! It is a bit on the pricey side but not outrageous. It would be a good place for a date or catching up with an old friend over a nice dinner. I would definitely go here again & I would definitely order the chicken & broccoli again.

My husband and I went here for New Years Eve. The staff was really helpful and friendly by squeezing us in for last minute reservations. I was really impressed with the friendliness of the staff and owner. Our appetizer, fried calamari, was delicious and a perfect portion. My chicken parm was amazing and we brought it home as leftovers which served as another meal. My husband got the clams posilipo which he said was phenomenal. The dessert was amazing as well - warm chocolate brownie served with ice cream and nuts. Save room for dessert. Overall very impressed! I can't wait to go here again. Thanks for a nice NYE!

I really did not enjoy the food here. The prices were a bit more than I was anticipating so I ordered the Margherita pizza. It was pretty disappointing; something was off with the sauce and the crust, and I ended up just chucking my leftovers. (I should add that I'm a college student, and until then I had thought my love of pizza was bottomless!) My dining companion liked her pasta dish, but it was swimming in a pool of oil (perhaps that is a style?). The restaurant itself is pretty cute. The bar area especially seemed like a nice place to enjoy a wine or beer without all the crowded din of a bigger bar.

Amazing little hole-in-the-wall type of place. Charming, cozy, very friendly staff and fellow guests. Food is outstanding, really surpassed my expectations. Nice green olive oil and bread selection to start off. You can really taste the freshness of ingredients in every homemade dish!

My husband and I went here for dinner one Saturday might recently. We made reservations because it looked small. It is small and cozy inside but it's a great spot! The food is delicious, portions are fairly big and the prices are reasonable. The service was great as well. We will definitely be back and have recommended it to our friends!

It's been awhile since I visited the Brickhouse. I got the arancini rice balls app and the chicken parm. The arancini was ok not enough sauce in my opinion the chicken was dry but floverful. The service was very good. Ok place for a quick bit at the bar.

I used to LOVE this place last year but I feel like the service has gone drastically down hill over the past few times there. The food is still good but they cut back on the portion-size - gone is the family-style and take home delicious leftovers. It is a shame because it was a place I looked forward to bringing out of towners and friends but now I need to pass on the place. Brickhouse, you dissapointed me.

went here the other night after a long day of moving. They had great food for around $15-$20 a plate. Be prepared to take at least half of it home for leftovers the next day! Their steak tips are great!

We've only ordered food togo from Brickhouse Cafe. The food here is great! The frutti de mare is absolutely delicious. If you love seafood, you'll love this dish. Everything tastes fresh and full of flavor. The rigatoni a la vodka and spinach salad are really good too!

I was really hoping I was going to like this place as I had heard good things from others. Unfortunately, it wasn't that outstanding. While we had huge portions of food at reasonable prices, quantity doesn't trump quality. The host and service were good, but my meal was so-so. I'm tempted to go back and try something else just to give it another try. But for now, it wasn't quite the "gem" I was expecting.

My boyfriend and I order take-out from the Brickhouse pretty often. I love their chicken parmigiana, the meatballs, the pizza. It's such a great place to have just down the street. Everyone is always very friendly. We had a drink at the bar one night as we were waiting for our order and the bartender was very friendly and chatty, we almost wished we could of just stayed and eaten our food at the bar :)

First time today at this place and last. I have chcken parm sandwich and the bread was burnt and sour dough french toast was also burnt. If the chef is the owner than he should have know better to serve burnt food to customer. Please rethink before going to this place

"Hidden Gem" is an accurate description. I Yelped for a restaurant in the area to meet friends on a weeknight, and Yelp did me right. The Brickhouse was quiet and low-key, very comfortable. I had a cosmo, arancini, and some kind of marsala, and everything was ... exactly just right. Each of those is a standard-order thing that I've had in many places, and I've had "good-enough" versions most times. I really do appreciate it when the care is taken to get it exactly just right. I think their menu reflects that amount of care. A lot of Italian places have huge menus (combining any meat with any sauce, etc), but the Brickhouse's menu was much shorter. I'd be willing to bet that every item on that menu gets the 'exactly just right' amount of attention.

My husband and I have visited the Brickhouse a few times, and we love it. It is cozy (aka small the tables are a little crammed in) but the food is delicious, and reasonably priced. The staff is very friendly almost every time we have been there the chef has come out to talk to various customers, it really gives a personal feeling. It is always a go to, if we can't make up our mind as to where to go for dinner.

Saw this place on the phantom gourmet and decided to go. They serve brunch until 3:00 on Sat and Sunday, but also offer the dinner menu. It's small, but cozy inside. The food was great, I got the creamy pesto casserole. It is a little pricey, for 4 entrees, 2 glasses of red wine, and two desserts it was $92. However, it was very tasty and I would definitely go back!!

What a pleasant surprise. We've passed by this place many times on the way to visit my partner's mother in Dedham and decided to have dinner there last night. It's cozy - ten tables in the dining room section, two tall tables in the bar side. There's a small gas fireplace in the corner of the dining room. There are two tvs over the bar but you happily can't see them from most of the tables in the dining room. Dining room was about half full on a Tuesday night at 7:15. We were seated immediately. The waiter and waitress were extremely efficient, friendly, and helpful (the waiter even noticed when my partner splashed tomato sauce on his shirt, and brought a glass of soda water to help get it out!). The food - chicken picatta for me, chicken verdicchio for him- was really really good, and there was just the right amount. Side dishes of pasta came with the meal; they were, well, pasta. The pasta sauce was above average. There is a good wine list, and although I didn't ask you can probably get anything at the bar. A basket of bread (crusty white and some amazing whole grain) started the meal, with a lovely plate of wonderful olive oil with pieces of roasted garlic. Prices are a little high; entrees are around $19.00. This place would probably be noisy on a busy night but for us on a Tuesday it was perfect. Parking across the street; didn't see any handicap accessibility altho there may be a ramp around the side. We will DEFINITELY go back!

Atmosphere was decent. We sat at the bar while waiting for a table. Drink prices were average. Once seated at our table we looked at the menu. I ordered the tips, wife had a pasta dish with the monster meatballs. Both entrees were fantastic. The prices were ok, a little higher than I expected. Portions were huge. We both had leftovers. I would have given this place 4 stars if only the service was better. The server dropped the food off and did not return until the check was due.

Had dinner at The Brickhouse last night; wonderful piece of grilled salmon, nicely flavored served with pilaf rice and carrots sprinkled with rosemary - delicious; my friend had the twin baked lobsters - huge portion and just as delicious; great service. I like this neighborhood restaurant.

I had dinner here with 2 friends last week for the first time. We all had great meals and were well taken care of by our waiter, Mike. He let us take our time with our meals realizing we were busy catching up - never felt rushed. We'll be back for another outing!

We had dinner at the bar recently. Very fun, local scene. The bartenders were great - friendly, attentive, entertaining. The food is classic italian fare. Nothing gourmet, but it was delicious. Hit the spot and we had a tons of leftovers. The wine list is somewhat limited, but it works. We'll definitely go back, and will recommend it to others in the area.

From out of town and found this gem on Yelp!! The food was fantastic and the Service was first rate. The homemade bread and olive oil with garlic dipping sauce was the best we have ever had. When they found out that we were here for the first time, the owner brought us over a complimentary appetizer dish of fried rice balls that were steaming hot and so wonderful! There were 3 of us, and we each ordered an entree along with one additional appetizer. Way too much food! We ordered the Italian Combo, the NY Steak special, and the Pasta Nicole. All of the entrees were excellent and full of flavor, and most importantly, served hot, right out of the oven! We will recommend this place to everyone we know when they come to Boston. And we will definitely be coming back whenever we are in Boston here.

We have been to the Brickhouse about 5 times. The food is excellent! The meatballs are HUGE and delicious. The chicken verdiccio was wonderful, reminded me of the same dish I had years ago in the north end. Had steak tips pizziola(a special) once. The steak tips were so tender, sauce delicious with big chunks of veggies and pasta. Nice wine list, great martinis... Large, excellent menu with something for everyone. Mussels bianco are delish.Chicken Bellagio is great! Minestrone soup is delicious. Deserts are top notch. prices are reasonable. Atmosphere nice, cute, but a bit small. Parking across the street. Try it, you'll like it...

I had a really excellent meal here of veal parm w/ spagetti. It's not super fancy but has good home cooking. The price was a bit high but the food was very good. The portions as mentioned before are very big. The host was very nice as well as the server. The bread was a little blah but what can ya do. I saw some other peoples meals one the frutti de mar and was a tad jealous. I will be back.

Went to the Brickhouse for the first time last night. Called at 6:30 to make reservations for 8:00. Our table was waiting for us when we arrived. The host and servers were so nice and friendly. We had to wait a little while for our drinks and never got any bread. Other than that our dinner was wonderful. Husband and I split the arrancini which was excellent. He had the Margherita pizza which he considers himself a connoisseur of, and loved it. I had the chicken Margherita special which was delicious. I really hope they add it to the menu. The atmosphere is nice, neighborhood pub meets traditional italian restaurant. It was pretty loud, which is to e expected given the small size. I can't wait to go back.

Their menu is here is simply fantastic and the service is great. My boyfriend and I went after seeing them on Phantom Gourmet and checked it on a Friday night. We didn't realize it was a reservations kind of place, but it is quite small, so if you'd like to get a table, call and reserve one for the weekend. Their meatballs, which are roughly the size of softballs, are to die for and worth going for all by themselves. The first night we went I had a special which was the Italian combo - raviolis, chicken parm, a meatball, and linguine with pomodoro sauce. Everything was great - wasn't the biggest fan of the chicken parm, but my boyfriend loved it. The 2 times we've gone back, I've gotten the raviolis and meatballs each time. Their bread and seasoned oil are also amazing, as well as their desserts (I can vouch for the creme brulee and the brownie sundae). It's a really great place for a first (or 50th!) date.

One of my favorite's! This unassuming little cafe offers great service, cozy surroundings and superb food! You need a car to get there, but it is well worth the drive! I have been here on numerous occasions and have been delighted with each visit!

The service was prompt and quick. The food was very good. I dont have a complaint about anything. The best part was the portions. They were quite large - which works out even better b/c you then get to savor the leftovers the next day.

This place is becoming one of our favorites. Decent wine/beer list, pretty extensive menu, specials, good red sauce, pasta, good pizza. The entrees have been very good. My only gripe is that a salad is not included with the entrees, its a la carte. You can sit at the bar, at a high top in the bar area or in the small restaurant area. Every waitperson we have had has been excellent. The host/hostess is always friendly and helpful. Its just a pleasant neighborhood restaurant.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
