Frontera Grill Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

I would not call this place "authentic Mexican" food but it was tasty Tex Mex. The salsa with the chips were wonderful and a nice treat before the main course. I don't recall the name of my dish but it was one of the combination platters with one chile relleno, one tamale, and one enchilada. The chile relleno was outstanding but everything else was....meh. I think because this was my first time here I will return and give something else a try.

This place is awesome! I won't be bothering to go anywhere else in the area for Mexican from now on. They have a HUGE variety of tasty and unique tacos, top notch margaritas, delicious guacamole made table side and it's all very reasonably priced. Enjoy!

Always warmly greeted and seated promptly, the chips are super fresh and the salsa is awesome! I have tried the quesadillas, tacos, and chimichangas, all of which were excellent. The kids menu is fun and my daughter always likes her meal. They put a sombrero on her head for her birthday and sang to her, which she loved. We also try to hit mariachi night when we can. The service is friendly.

Mexican food in western mass is notably terrible. La Veracruzana, Bueno Y Sano, and so many other places just miss the mark on good Mexican cuisine. Frontera doesn't nail it perfectly, but it is VERY very good Tex-Mex, and preferable to just about everywhere else in the happy valley. After living in CA, where good Mexican food can be found everywhere, I was skeptical of Frontera. My first time here, I ordered the combination plate, wanting to try a little of everything. The starting salsa and chips they give you are VERY VERY good. So good, we always order extra salsa. The "beef" burrito was ground beef, not steak, the carnitas were kind of weird, but the chile relleno was tasty. However, what gave me hope was the rice and beans. Perfectly cooked, the right kind of rice, and beans with melted cheese served Yucatan style. THIS made me want to come back, because I know if ordered something deeper on the menu, I would get something better than what I like to call the 'gringo plate' (and despite my gripes about the lack of authenticity to it, it was still pretty tasty). And so upon my return, i tried the Baja fish tacos, and they were RIGHT ON. Served crisp and hot, with nice crunchy cabbage and Cotija cheese sprinkled on! JUST A NOTE: Ask for the Cotija, some servers forget it. This made me so happy, as great fish tacos are hard to find, and even harder to find in new england! Following visits I tried: Steak Burrito - VERY well seasoned steak, super satisfying Chimichanga - a little small, but for a deep fried burrito you shouldn't eat a monster. Marco Polo Tacos - bacon wrapped shrimp tacos, spicy sause, not authentic, but delicious and i get the baja fish tacos about every other time. But whats one of my favorite parts of Frontera? SUNDAY BRUNCH. Not mind blowing, but simple Mexican breakfast dishes, all for about 7 bucks! They come with home fries AND chiliquilles verde, which are chips smothered in green salsa and cheese and baked a little. SO GOOD. Its hard to find decent brunch where 2 people can get a meal and coffees for 20 bucks. AND, hardly anyone knows about it, so its usually nice and quiet and slow on Sunday mornings/ early afternoon. The only downside are that some of the waitstaff can be a bit slow or dim on certain nights. The regular guys that work there are on point though. Tableside quac is DAMN Good too.

Don't bother stopping by, Chipotle is down the road. Service is terrible, the only nice thing is that it matches the food so there's no surprises there. Ordered the "Enchiladas Suizas" and got what's for sure the driest chicken breast in town, wrapped in a sad dry corn tortilla, I asked for some extra green salsa on the side to make it a bit more passable and avoid chocking on the food, I'm still waiting for it to arrive. If you are on a high sodium salt diet, this is you place!

Everything is awesome. Drinks, staff, food, guac, chips, salsa. Everything. I recommend the fajitas, table side guac, and house margaritas. They also have live music on certain days, (I think Monday?) and its awesome. One of my favorite Mexican restaurants. You really can't go wrong with Fontera.

My wife and I went here for dinner last week and the service was terrible. Looked like there were a bunch of new waiters and nobody looked familiar. I was shocked because I come here frequently with my family and usually enjoy our dinner and the service is wonderful.. We also love Taco Tuesday and love the table side guacamole. However, this past week, we waited over 10 minutes before even getting our drinks.. Food was good but portions seem to be getting smaller. I ordered a Grilled Chicken Quesadilla and asked for no guacamole. Usually when I ask for no guacamole, they give me extra sour cream in place of the guac. When I asked, I was told that I would now be charged for the extra sour cream. Also, their side of sour cream and guac is much smaller than it has been in the past. If you are looking for drinks, stick to beer. They do have a good selection of beer. My wife and I got margaritas with our dinner which were very watered down and weak. I had to ask for an extra shot. When I go with my co-workers, we usually sit in the bar. One bartender didn't even know how to make the drinks we ordered off the menu. Again, no familiar faces in the bar which was unfortunate. George and Chelsey used to make the best margaritas. Haven't seen them there in a long time. Also, supervisor is terrible. Heard him yelling at two employees right in front of customers--Very unprofessional. Unfortunately, don't think I will be back..

Been there many times! Great service, yummy drinks, and the food is always fresh! The owner came up to us at our last visit to introduce himself which was nice. We have tried many things in their menu and have loved each and every one. Live band on Wednesdays. Fresh made guacamole right in front on you! We will always keep coming back. If you like fresh food and great atmosphere it's worth a try

So so food, just not very seasoned. Great atmosphere and service though. Lot of energy there.

Very welcoming and friendly reception at the door. Loved the atmosphere and décor. The mariachi band was a perfect touch to the setting. The service was friendly but not attentive. Empty glasses and empty salsa bowls and chips early on. The food though was excellent and very tasty. The reviews and raves about the salsa are well warranted, would have liked more though. We had the street tacos that were good. The chicken fajitas was excellent though the server could have used help bringing the food to the table instead of piece meal. The enchiladas de mole, was very tasty delicious and filling. Over all a great dinner and will be back :-)

My husband and I have decided this is one of our favorite Mexican restaurants in the area. I wouldn't say it is the best Mexican food of all the places in western mass- but it is good. The service is good, the prices are decent. The thing that really sells it for us is the complimentary chips and salsa. It is always a bummer when you have to buy chips and salsa, and you only get so much. And it is always a bonus when you get free chips and salsa. At Frontera Grill they are not only free, but also really, really good. Hot and fresh chips that they constantly refill, and a nice, fresh salsa(one of my favorites) that they also constantly refill. We usually have to ask them to stop bringing refills so we can save room for our meals-- we like having that problem!

One of the most authentic Mexican places around this area. The strange yet familiar taste in my mouth felt like lard (Manteca), which I haven't had since childhood. They really use authentic flavors, yet the food didn't ever seem greasy. It was a bit of a challenge to find something on the menu that was diet friendly, but it can be done. The fresh tortillas and salsa on the table are fantastic. My mojito was also well made. Service was attentive. No complaints at all. Try to visit on Mariachi night. Great place.

Outstanding food, great atmosphere, and friendly staff. I visit every time I am in town. The food has been consistently fantastic from day one. Homemade guacamole, large margaritas, fresh fish, and large plates. They have a varied menu that's both friendly to kids and the non- Mex eater that got dragged to a family dinner (yes, you can get a hamburger). We ordered the pescado veracruzano and tacos Mediterráneo; both dishes had fresh fish and vegetables. The veracruzano had a delicious red pastes on the fish that tasted like a blend of roasted tomatoes, sofrito, and spices. The fish was then topped with a chunky vegetable and olive combo, it was delicious! I love that they put taco holders on the plate do they don't fall over and spill their contents. We return as often as we can, our only criticism is the parking lot fills quickly.

We had errands in Chicopee so we decided to eat here. The restaurant had a good atmosphere with general Mexican cultural themes and national symbols. Decorations lined the restaurant as well. The restaurant seemed decently large as well. This gave the restaurant the appearance that it was empty even though there were many tables filled. Great service in general. We were immediately given chips with salsa and our waitress took our order quickly. The food also arrived quickly, but that prompt delivery did not detract from its quality. First, the servings and portions were incredible for the price. I had the Frontera combo platter and the portions were excellent for its price. Second, the meal was flavorful and well-cooked, especially for a meal that came to us in what felt like 5 minutes. Overall, excellent portions, good prices, great food, and great service. This is a must go-to place in Chicopee.

Complimentary chips and salsa were very good. I loved all the fresh cilantro in the salsa, but was annoyed at all the broken chips in our basket. The Philly rolls, as an appetizer, were very unique and I would get them again. I had the tempura fish tacos, which were cooked nicely with fresh ingredients. My wife had the street tacos. She liked them, but was disappointed at the soggy corn tortillas that just fell apart. The black beans, guacamole, and yellow rice were also great. I love their use of fresh cilantro on all the dishes. Service was straight to the point and prompt. The food came out quick and was hot. The place looked clean. Parking was kind of chaotic when the lot is full. Would go back. Went back again and everything was great again. The salsa is amazing. Fajitas were great with tons of lean grilled meat. Way more than vegetables. No broken tortilla chips. Parking was easy this time. Food came out in about five minutes. Crazy fast. Moving to five stars!

First visit today. Great value -- enormous, tasty food. Taquitos to start, then a combo enchilada/chimichanga plate for main course. My wife had turkey tacos, which were also very good.

  • Sam B.

Weak-frozen margharita clearly had no alcohol and was blended too smooth-textureless. Food was unseasoned. Guacamole was paltry in size though tasty. Main courses (bacon wrapped shrimp and world class tacos) were just eh. Service was pleasant and prompt.

Really good mex joint. If you want to avoid the chain scene, this is a great spot. Fantastic and colorful dining room and they have a live mariachi band once a week. The menu is huge so you will have plenty to choose from. Whether it's fish tacos, burritos or something more authentic, you will find something good. The full bar is great too!

I went there for the first time this past Sunday and was more than pleasantly surprised. The first thing I noticed was the above average salsa and the warm freshly fried tortilla chips. The salsa was loaded with fresh tomato chucks, onion, green onion and cilantro, I consider it to be one of the better ones I have had on any of my Mexican 'foodie roundups". I started with a small Tortilla soup $5 which by most restaurant standards would be considered a bowl. Again, very fresh ingredients tomato, carrots, chicken, avocado chucks, a lot of fresh tortilla strips in a tomato chicken base broth. I rate this soup excellent! The soup was followed by the Vegetarian Trio consisting of one cheese enchilada, one Spinach Florentine enchilada, one chile rellenos, black beans in a tortilla cup, arroz blanco and a side of Mexican slaw. The stuffed chile relleno was fried perfectly, remained crunchy, served with a salsa verde and topped with Mexican sour cream, the spinach enchilada was loaded with freshly sauteed spanach and a very litely seasoned bechamel, topped with cheese. The black beans as well as the arroz blanco were nicely seasoned and quite flavorful. I have to say this was one of my top Mexican food experiences in the area to date, I would not hesitate to go back or recommend this place to serious Mexican Foodie Yelpers.

I traditionally will not eat Mexican chain restaurant food it is not my forte however I have tried this place after lots of convincing and to my surprise I found it to be very very very good. One of the main reasons that I like this restaurant is because it is not a chain restaurant I do not like chain restaurants because everything is manufactured and sealed in a bag..... it's not homemade but at this place you can tell that the food is homemade and it's not pre-made in a factory and canned or sealed in a plastic bag. You can tell that everything or just about everything is homemade and cooked to order. Here are some of my favorite things that I like to order starting out with the mixed drinks they are very flavorful and served in very large drinking glasses the second thing that I love to order of the chicken wings they are extremely good you can order them naked or you can order them with the sauce I prefer them naked and have the sauce to dip it. The entrée that I usually get is the shrimp with the special green sauce made from ground pecan and I think cilantro I believe it's called the 1800 shrimp. Three last things that I don't want to forget to tell you is the guacamole that's made fresh to order right in front of you probably one of the best tasting guacamole that I've ever had and it's made fresh infront of you and for those of you that like a little spice right before you make your order your served a basket of warm tortilla chips with their very own homemade spicy salsa and it's not like the crapp in a jar that you get in the stores it's definitely homemade. This is the only Mexican restaurant that I will go to along with others like it but I will not go into a Mexican chain restaurant, they do not compare to FRONTERA GRILL. Oh tge last thing that you have to try is the large hot green chili stuffed with cheese very good with a very spicy kick, it's incredible :-)))) My final opinion is The food is on point the drinks are on point the staff is primarily people of Mexican or Spanish background so it makes you feel as though you are on a mini vacation away from the area and the place itself is very Mexican looking it makes you feel as though you are having dinner in a restaurant in Mexico.

It just keeps getting better. Live band roaming while you eat. Guacamole made tableside. Reasonably priced at $6 bucks. This is the best authentic mexican food joint in the neighborhood. The seating area is clean and plentiful. Although we were in a line to beseated, there were plenty of tables. Order a bowl of tortilla soup while you wait for your entree. It's delicious.

Don't order the Chimichanga. It's the size of an Egg role. Even the waitress aired they have scaled back. So if you like 95 percent beans and rice on your plate and an egg role that gets mushy from all the beans. Order it

VERY GOOD. Surprisingly good tex-mex in Chicopee. I tried to "street tacos." They were different but good with honey tasting onions. Also, the salsa is VERY good that they serve with the chips. I was there on a Thursday night but they had signs for some very appealing specials during football and Monday nights.

Food was great! Everything was full of flavor! Better than Casa De Nana in Springfield,Ma. Atmosphere was vibrant and colorful. Staff was very nice. They have a warm cole slaw that is to die for. Got tipsy off a mango mojito. Good place to eat. Live mariachi on Wednesday. Have fun!

I wish i could say this was good. I like any excuse to consume large quantities of guacamole. Food was uninspired - enchilada for me and quesadilla for my dinner partner. A simple choice like that usually satisfies me like comfort food almost always does. It was not bad but was definitely nothing special. Refried beans are a weak spot for me too. Even those were just so. What was really unsettling was the mumbling indifferent service. This was brought into stark focus when a nearby table had the Frontera equivalent of Happy Birthday. It was kind of sad - like a dirge - it could have been more energetic. Furthermore, Im not sure these folks have an appreciation for checking in at least once on their customers. Im sure we will come back at least once more - but I'm not going to recommend this place to friends until I'm confident in their ability to deliver. Save your money on the Sangria - definitely not recommended.

IMPRESSED~! I have to admit I was pretty skeptical, for a number of reasons. The fact that it is in Chicopee might lead the pack. Mexican/Chicopee...takes a bit to get used to. This location has seen a number of restaurants come and go. Frontera I do believe will be here for years to come. They have done a great job with the atmosphere. Can hardly recognize the place. Fresh made salsa was great. Authentic. Fresh. Flavorful. Good selection of additional hot sauces at the table. Chips were fine, but didn't have that in-house made taste. Dinners were excellent as well, Mole isn't something that is all that easy to pull off, but these guys make a real winner. The waitstaff are all friendly and helpful. Our waiter ended up being the son of the owner. It took us a while to figure it out, but it came clear with the way he was so helpful with the rest of the staff. Nice work. There is a passion that runs through this place. It's easy to pick up on. Plenty of attention to detail. Exit interview on our way out the door, further proves the level these people care. Only one complaint. I do like the roll around fresh table-side made guacamole. They do need to get some different wheels for that cart though! Think shopping cart with a wobbling wheel following you around every aisle while you are grocery shopping. Grrr....

I can't believe I've never reviewed this place on Yelp! I've been eating at Frontera so often in the past couple of years, they know me and my husband by name and on sight and often make sure we get "our table" and everyone comes over to say hello, see how we are and laugh with us without being intrusive. Eli, the manager and son of the owner, is a serious delight -- he went to culinary school and knows his food and knows how to make sure everyone gets great service. It's a family business and most of the family works there and have never given us anything but smiles and a real sense they are glad we're there. We keep going back because the service is amazing and the food is the best Mexican food we've had, hands down. It's unassuming but interesting and reliably tasty. I'm not a fan of the tamales, but that is literally the only thing I've tried and not liked, otherwise everything has been great. The pork carnitas, either in a dish or as a meal, are a stand out. The chile rellenos are amazing, with a poblano emulsion and gorgeous light batter. I now always get a chicken taco as well with my combo, because the chicken is really tasty. Fajitas, great. Expresso burrito, outstanding. Chips and salsa are fantastic and if you like spicy salsa, ask for the salsa verde which they will happily provide. The flan is some of the best we've ever had. I can't rave about Frontera enough -- we seriously are there once a week or at least 2-3 times a month. I'm glad to be a regular at a place that's locally owned, delicious and as friendly as Frontera!

For whatever reason I didn't expect much from Frontera Grill, but I was very pleasantly surprised by the charming atmosphere and delicious food served here. The portions were large and reasonably priced. I had a chimichanga and it was served with a wonderful guacamole. The service was extremely quick but a bit impersonal. If you're looking for Mexican food in Western Mass, it doesn't get much better than this.

I visit from So Cal every year - land of abundant fresh Mexican food. I was skeptical about Mexican food in MA, but no longer. I had the carnitas plate with rice, beans and guacamole. OMG! The pork was tender, succulent, and perfectly seasoned. Rice and beans excellent. The guacamole was perfect! Not a sad green mess of mystery ingredients, but fresh chunks of avocado seasoned perfectly. I didn't realize tortillas did not come with meal, as they do back home. I asked for some corn tortillas, and they didn't blink an eye, just quickly delivered a steaming batch to the table. I am a foodie and eat fresh and organic whenever possible. This food is the real deal, folks! Go here if you want to taste fresh homemade Mexican food. Delicioso!

Just ate there for lunch for the first time. Took my in laws and brother in law there who came here on vacation. They are Mexican and wanted to try it out. The food was real Mexican... not generic out of a can stuff. We had chips and salsa for an appetizer which was very good. Then I had the street tacos which was served hot and fresh. My party of five adults and four children loved everything. The service was great. Never had to ask for a refilled drink. The bill was about right for what we ordered. No complaints about anything. Also if your not into mexican like your friends they have a vegaterian menu and an all american side menu. Please go and check it out!

I have been here 5 times and each time was a great experience. Great service , great food , awesome Mexican decor and ambiance. Prices are very affordable. Pictures with a lot of the menu items which helps sometimes. Free chips and salsa. Great tasting food. Loved it. Definitely check this place.

Very tasty food and excellent margaritas! Love love love the Patron margaritas in the big bottle! We've sampled the tacos, burritos, quesadillas and enchiladas...all excellent and fresh. Still haven't planned my visit correctly to enjoy the guacamole cart....another reason to revisit.

I cannot believe this Mexican restaurant is so tasty! One restaurant after another has tried to survive in the former PJ Scott's location and I figured this one would just add to the list of fails; boy was I wrong: *Incredibly fast and friendly service (perhaps TOO fast); we had JUST finished our app and the entrees were already being put in front of us. Water was continually refilled throughout our meal and chips/salsa came out within 20 seconds of sitting down; the staff seems eager to wait on you and are very nice. *The food is SOOO good!! I didn't think it was possible to find a Mexican establishment with food this good outside of CA. We both got the fajitas (chicken, shrimp and steak) and were thoroughly impressed; if you've ever been to Acapulcos in Enfield--it's better. *Delicious margaritas; we are both snobs when it comes to a good 'rita but you can tell they use fresh, natural ingredients. No overly sweet mix (we both got the $9 premium 'ritas with Cabo and Don Julio); very generous portions. We can't wait to go back; if they keep pumping out food/drinks of this quality, they will be there for years to come. Check it out!!

If you can solve the puzzling maze of access roads and one-way signage and actually find your way to the parking lot of Frontera Grill, you will be rewarded with a delightfully fresh and authentic Mexican/Tex-Mex meal and an array of margarita options for your troubles. Only five months old, Frontera Grill sits on an unassuming corner in a fading stretch of Chicopee's old commercial strip near Westover Air Force Base. My expectations were not particularly high, and as we navigated the confusing Do Not Enter and One Way signage, at one point even u-turning in a neighboring CVS parking lot, I wondered whether this was all an omen of a disappointing meal ahead and had already begun mentally crafting the apology I would owe my boyfriend for dragging him to yet another dud in my quest to search out hidden gems. However, once we found the parking lot entrance, things started to look up: we lapped the building twice and failed to find a single available parking space, and were one of three cars circling for spots. I took this as a good sign, tempered by the little voice in the back of my head saying "yeah but even the Golden Corral has a full parking lot...".... The interior is colorful and lively and folksy enough to gain some Mex-cred in my eyes. After growing up in Austin, Texas and spending a fair amount of time in Mexico, I guess I'm something of a Tex-Mex snob and am easily annoyed at "upscale" Mexican that tries but fails to get it right; I'll take an unassuming hole-in-the-wall family run place with some funk factor any day. Considering the state of the parking lot, I had anticipated doing some lengthy time at the bar getting intimately acquainted with the margarita menu, but Frontera is surprisingly large inside and we were seated right away. Staff was warm and friendly, and if I have one complaint it is about the lighting. It is REALLY bright. As in, don't look up or you'll see sun spots for several seconds after. The menu is large and colorful and laden with helpful pictures, and the prices are very reasonable. It took me about a nano-second to order a frozen peach mango marg (heads up...margaritas in glasses the size of your head are $7, and for an extra $1.50 they'll combine/customize flavors for you, thus the peach mango), and it was strong and good. We shared the combo appetizer platter, which consisted of a moderately-sized pile of guac-covered nachos flanked by taquitos, quesadilla wedges, and Mexican chicken wings. The guacamole was fantastic and the taquitos were solid...wings were of the heavily sauced and limp skin variety (good flavor, but not my fave preparation; boyfriend loved them), and the quesadilla was fairly pale and bland and I would probably pass on that next time, but to me, that's what the sampler platter at a new restaurant is all about: figuring out what you would get again. For entrees, boyfriend got the World's Best tacos and I broke my tradition of gauging the quality of a new Mexican place by their mole... and uncharacteristically ordered fajitas. Fajitas Texanas, to be exact; a mix of beef, chicken and shrimp. Just about when we declared ourselves fully gorged on chips, salsa and the massive app platter, the fajitas arrived in all of their sizzling, smoking glory. That smell is irresistible. I rallied and managed to build and eat two of them before giving in to the doggy bag, and even then, I barely dented the huge portion. Boyfriend's tacos were "interesting" but he wouldn't get them again. Overall, the food was very fresh and flavors nicely balanced. We were glad for the caddy of assorted hot sauces and used them liberally, even spiking the carafe of salsa to a borderline sweaty forehead level. I don't know why, but sometimes I like a bit of challenge in my Mexican cuisine...jalapenos are a perfect foil for that peach-mango 'rita. We left with promises to our waiter and the manager that we would be back soon. Full bellies and roars of laughter as we figured out how to get back out of the parking lot, at one point we were stopped at an intersection with a "No Right Turn" sign on our right and a "Right Turn Only" sign on our left. I kid you not. Bring a sense of humor along with your appetite, and you'll leave Frontera Grill smiling.

If you're in Chicopee and looking for good Mexican/Tex-Mex this is the place to go. It does get a little pricey but the food will not disappoint. When I was there they had a live band that roamed around the place playing at every table and helped add to a pleasant evening out with the family. The atmosphere is fun and friendly.

I'm from Northern California and have lived in Western Massachusetts for 6 years. I've been searching for real Mexican food since I moved here and have always been disappointed. I couldn't even find a good Mexican Food restaurant in Northampton which has a lot of great places to eat. My server was Frederique who was AMAZING! I immediately told him my situation and he did not disappoint. I got a combo plate with an enchilada, tamale and chimichanga and of course rice and beans and it was amazing. You can always tell how a Mexican food restaurant is going to be right away from their salsa. Frontera's salsa was delicious. It had just the right amount of heat and spices. My fabulous waiter brought me a super hot salsa too that I loved. This place brought back so many memories of fun dinners with my girlfriends of 30+ years and my twin sister back home in California. Thank you Frederique for such a great visit. They even have the décor down perfect to what you see in Mexico and Southern California. It was perfect! You must try this place if you can!

Okay, so we've been here before and were very pleased with everything. I am not a true Mexican food fan so am happy with non-spicy food. Take that for what it's worth. The one reason we wanted to go back was the guacamole that is made tableside. It is AWESOME. So we went for lunch and ordered it only to have a pre-made bowl brought to the table. It was nowhere near as good and had way too much lemon going on. After putting our own massive amount of salt on it, our waiter came by and he said that no one can make it like the girl who makes it tableside. I wish he had told us this before we ordered it. Unfortunately, she works after 2:00 p.m. on weekends. Okay, so now we know to call and ask if she is working as that is the best thing on the menu. We ordered street tacos that were good. The rice and beans is very bland, but I'm not a huge fan anyway. I had the philly cheesesteak egg roll and it was really good. We'll be back and will make sure we get the fresh guacamole!

Simply Amazing! I have knocked off about 3/4 of the taco list and have not been disappointed yet. My favorites are the Marco Polo, the Baja, and the Calamari Tacos. I know these are all the fish but don't count out the chicken and meat ones like the Korean and any of the other tacos. Those just happen to be my favorites. Last night I had the fish tempura and although I found it good I will go back to one of the others. The chips that you receive are warm and go great with the salsa provided. If you wish you can have fresh guacamole brought to your table. I have tries only one of the Burritos and was very pleased I think it was the last one on the list. The drinks are fabulous and large to go with the big flavors on the plate. Although I have never ordered the camarones reposado my date did and gave me a sample. Awesome and to know that it was cooked in tequila and created that flavor in the plate blew my mind. As crazy as this sounds one of the things that truly make the meals is their various cold slaws that they put on their dishes. Also must recommends are the appetizers namely the Philly rolls and the buffalo wings. If you are on the lighter side I recommend the salad in the taco bowl. The service is also flawless and impeccable. Great job guys and a huge pat on the back for a wonderful experience every time. If I had one flaw to give the restaurant it would be the desserts. For me thats okay because I am more about the meals and not a major fan of desserts. I had ordered the cheesecake and was disappointed.

Not a whole lot for Mexican in Chicopee. Nice decoration for a restaurant that has changed at least three times in the past 4 years I've been in the area. Cool tiles that run throughout the place. Service was very kind, but also super slow. We went on a Sunday afternoon for lunch, since we found a coupon in the paper. Drinks were good as one would expect for afternoon margaritas. We asked for waters, had to ask again. Food brought a lot of choices. We found the lunch menu hidden on the back and were excited we could order lunches on a Sunday. I couldn't find any problems with the portion sizes. Ordered a combo, the peppercorn enchilada, and a steak fajita. Chips and salsa were quality, as mentioned in other posts; Not a lot to dip in, but tasty. Rice and beans met mixed reviews, not great, but not the worst. All in all a good addition to the chaos of the Drive in Chicopee.

A little challenging to locate, but the food is worth it. Chips a Salsa upon arrival, GOOD fresh salsa, warm chips, good start. Tried the philly steak rolls, they were OK but not special. Had the combination plate for lunch, carnitas enchilada, chicken burrito, and beef taco. The star was the chicken! Moist, great spice. Refried beans were well seasoned not to much salt just right. Long and short of it is, next time in the area and want Mexican, I'll be back.

Surprisingly good. The house margarita is fairly smooth (ie not too much citric acid). The chips were cold but not stale, the house salsa is flavorful/mild. The menu selections are exceptional - so many choices and many unique items on the menu. My server was just "ok", she seemed to ignore my table on several passes but my neighbor across the aisle and next to me got repeat attention. My particular meal choice, a fajita-seasoned chicken chimi was *not* good, the dry rub seasoning on the meat had a cinnamon-like flavor that was not very good and the melty cheese sauce tasted like something out of a jar. My dining partner had a bacon-wrapped shrimp taco (or was it scallops?) that he raved over. Overall, would definitely return. It was clean inside and the decor was totally revamped since the days of this being the Blue Sky Diner or Ivanhoe. They also have a fair amount of non-mexican food choices and kids things in case you have a big party or diners of varied tastes.

The staff is very friendly, from start to finish. Things usually move pretty quickly, and the servers are very professional. The chips and salsa are great- though sometimes I wish the salsa was a bit more chunky. The food is great, I've tried a few different dishes and haven't been disappointed- save for the Arroz con Pollo, which was chicken with vegetables- peppers, mushrooms, etc, served over rice. It sounded fabulous, but the vegetables were mushy and the rice was covered in cheese and grease- but all of the burritos and fajitas, etc, that I've had have been great. Drinks were great too!

Service was excellent!!!! Chips and fresh salsa served immediately. Portion sizes were extremely large. We went for Sunday brunch and we ordered huevos poblanos. Prices were reasonable. Authentic quality Mexican food. Love love love!

I don't even know how this place does not have five stars... I went today by accident with a friend that was hungry and was just looking for any place to eat.... I ate just because I was there with her. I ordered the black bean and rice burrito and it was DELICIOUS...I have never tried a burrito like this before. The salsa and chips served before the meal were great as well. You could tell it was fresh salsa, and the recipe was exquisite. The chips were also fresh and tasty. The waiter was very friendly and efficient. Five stars for Frontera Grill.

I spotted that there was a new Mexican restaurant in this spot that has had a lot of restaurants come and go over the past few years. I hope this one sticks. My girlfriend and I decided to give it a try for lunch today. It was not crowded but not deserted either. A couple of large groups came in while we were there. The decorations are bright and cutely mexican. Service was prompt and attentive. They brought us fresh chips and a delicious chunky and fresh salsa within seconds of being seated. As noted in another review, the lunch options are on the back of the menu, and they are extremely reasonably priced. You can get a two-combo for less than $7; your choice of two from enchilada, chimichanga, burrito, taco, and several others I can't remember. My girlfriend got the Taco Salad and I got the Frontera Lunch Combo which includes a half a burrito (but a half is still quite large), a nicely-presented salad and chicken tortilla soup, and even comes with a queso dip. I could not even finish half the burrito after the soup and salad. If you like Mexican, this place is an excellent value. Would be a fun place to bring the kids or a large group, and even works for a date night.

Best Mexican food in the greater springfield area. Maybe even western mass. Good margaritas. Good food. Been quite a few times.

Frontera is Fron-tabulous! Very fresh ingredients (this is a must for me to return to an establishment), attentive and friendly waitstaff and beautiful decor. They have removed my favorite dish from the menu (fajitas hawaiian) or I would give 5 stars

This restaurant is not affiliated with Rick Bayless. $6.50 for a small guacamole is ridiculous. I had the comb plate for $11.95 . The tamale was rock hard, dry and obviously from several days ago. The chili relano lacked flavor, the chimichanga was cubed pork pieces in a deep fried shell. They call themselves "Fresh-Mex". NO they are not. The plate was hot as hell as typical americanized mexican places prepare them. I could tell the food was all premade, put on a plate and heated under a broiler. Save your money and find another Mexican place to eat.

Short review: really good food, simple but authentic menu, great service. Go there and enjoy the experience. Longer review: walking into the door I was surprised at how nicely they had decorated the place. Very nice job transforming what was a really drab place before these folks put in a ton of very nice tile and lovely appointments. We had chips and salsa instantly and I like how they give you a small carafe of their delicious salsa so there's plenty. We ordered the chicken taquitos which were loaded and much heartier than any I've ever seen before. I can't wait to try another of the exciting varieties. I had to order The Worlds Best Tacos. They were... But there were so many awesome taco selections that I wish they offered a trio sampler. I guess they know what they're doing because I can't wait to go back and try some of the others... Might take me several visits to get to the burritos, fajitas, enchiladas and whatever else they have. We found this place on Yelp under "hot new businesses" and it was an accident that we ended up here because it was my birthday. I mentioned it to my waiter and he and the rest of the staff showed up at our table and sang a lovely birthday song in Spanish! They put a sombrero on my head put a complimentary fried ice cream for two on our table and sang me an authentic Mexican birthday song! It was awesome! Thank you everyone at The Frontera Grill for a lovely time with my wife on my 47th. I will be back... With friends!

SUNDAY! SUNDAY! SUNDAY! It was Superbowl Sunday and my wife and I didn't want anything to do with the game. We had been meaning to try Frontera for a few months, so off we went. The place was very busy, but it turns out the families of the workers were having a party, so we opted to sit in the bar. The beer selection was only so-so, your typical Bud on tap, but they had a nice mid level alcohol selection. The Chambord Margarita and the Pina Colada were very tasty, and the chips and fresh salsa were perfect! We decided to do a "pick 3" so we could try a few different things, and they were very accommodating when we wanted to get two different kinds of tacos. The food was typical Americanized Mexican, but in the best possible way. The rice and beans were, as has been mentioned, only average. The only real complaint I would have would be how greasy the chalupa was on my platter. But that being said, I can tell you that I have very little experience with chalupas so that may very well be what they are supposed to be like. The long a short of it: a Mexican restaurant not unlike Margarita's or On the Border, but with a friendlier wait staff and without the chain feel. I will be going back.

This is our family favorite restaurant it's always excellent, we've gone from one chile relleno to ordering as many as we can get we are hooked. we've come since they opened, awesome wait staff and great margaritas come and enjoy

it is good Mexican food but not all is homemade. The menu is a bit too large. The dishes are "Americanized". The staff is friendly. The restaurant has been decorated with nice Mexican decors which gives it a authentic look.

Salsa was excellent. Fresh and tasty with warm tortilla chips. The guacamole, unfortunately, was completely bland and tasteless. I then had a combo platter and everything was just really dull. I am fairly certain that everything was pre made because it was ready immediately (literally) and was not exactly fresh. The bartender was very sweet and attentive (and cute) and the place was clean and inviting. They really just need to get some better recipes and/or cooks and to pay attention to using fresh ingredients.

Biggest complaint: musty smell right off when you walk in. It' quickly forgotten after a few minutes. I have been to this place (building) long ago and there was a musty smell and it still has that smell so it's not something new. The food is very good, decent portions. Great service. Excellent deserts. Great to have a different choice for mexican, look forward to visiting again

I'm unimpressed. The good-but-watery salsa arrived with a bowl of chips, but we couldn't place our order or get drinks out of our server for at least 20 minutes. It was pretty ridiculous. I finally ordered a grilled chicken quesadilla and although it wasn't actually bad, it was bland as can be. Plain chicken and plain cheese, nothing more. For $9, I expected a vegetable or two in there somewhere. I'll stick with On the Border.

Excellent food and service. Their lunch menu is very reasonable and delicious! I loved the world best tacos and will return as they were awesome. They did a great job with the decor as well. Extremely clean but also in a tasteful Mexican theme. I highly recommend! Awesome find!

Decent food - fair prices. Unfortunately I sat at the bar and watched every waiter bare hand every dessert that was served. They take it from the fridge pick it up with bare hands and put it off the plate. Put the design on the plate then touch the food again and put it back on the plate. I never saw a single waiter wash before touching the food you are going to eat. Be careful.

Great Mexican food, great service and a pleasing atmosphere. I went here on a weekday for lunch with a relatively large crowd and no reservation (13 people). They seated us within minutes and provided excellent service, bringing out fresh chips, and bold salsa right away. The chips and salsa refills kept coming as they took our orders. They even brought out some spicier tomatillo salsa when they noticed us putting hot sauce in the tomato salsa (which was already decently hot). The tomatillo salsa was incredible - if you can stomach the heat, the flavor profile could be described as fresh and rich. The meals came out quickly. I got a vegetarian burrito fresco and it was superb. It was a fork and knife affair and the flavors were again rich. I put some of the tomatillo salsa on to get a little more heat, though the burrito stood just fine as it came too. I thought the plastic drinking cups and plastic salsa carafes were out of place - glass would seem more appropriate for a restaurant of this caliber. Although they have a vegetarian section on the menu, I thought it could have used a little more variety, and maybe provided some options to make them vegan.

We needed this in Chicopee! Good food, friendly staff. Check out Taco Tuesdays in the bar. All you can eat Tacos, $1 each. Nice. Don't bring Snafu!

This place is a huge disappointment. We went in at 7pm on a Friday and it was almost empty. it still took over 5 minutes for someone to come to our table and almost 20 minutes for 2 sodas and a beer. The salsa was super mild and weak with no alternative spicier options. My burrito was actually filled with all seemingly-fresh ingredients, but it was bland. The chicken quesadillas were simple - just chicken and cheese - how boring can you get? I dig Rick Bayless as a big-time celeb chef, but this place is not up to par.

I really enjoy the food here....always a vegetarian choice for me. They are accommodating with changing certain elements of the menu and I haven't found a better Mojito around! Love the Mariachi Band on Wednesday nights.

Good food and a friendly staff. I have only been for lunch and the fish tacos are great. The lunch menu is on the back page of the menu, a place usually reserved for deserts, etc... My only complaint is that they miss some small attention to detail. The Tabasco sauce on the table had a ring of crust on it at the top of the bottle. Service is a little slow for lunch time, most folks want to be in and out in thirty minutes or so not forty-five to an hour, plan accordingly.

First time here tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it! Guacamole was good, salsa was just fair. My husband had the Rocky Mountain soup, very flavorful and spicy. My friend had the tortilla soup, milder than the Rocky Mountain with pieces of avocado in it, very tasty. All of or entrees were very good. Good sangria too! About the only complaint I have is for the parents of the SCREAMING toddler seated across from us: take him outside, no one wants to hear his piercing screams while they eat. Will return and hopefully, they will not.

They have the best steak fajitas I have had since Double Door was open in Springfield, MA. Their fried cheesecake dessert is to DIE for! We've been many time since they opened and are quite pleased with the meals and service. I'll be getting the steak fajitas everytime we go, I found my fave! Thanks, Frontera!

After reading the reviews on Travel Advisor, I went to Frontera's. Although clearly everyone has their own experience, in my judgement and those who came with me, it was not that good. The food wasn't horrible, but I like home made food, and this didn't do it for me. I've have had far better Mexican food.

If this place can keep up their standards, I think they will be successful for a long time. The interior has a nice design, the waiters were nice and we had chips and salsa on our table within thirty seconds of sitting down. I ordered the street tacos and they were some of the best tacos I have ever had, authentic double wrapped soft shell tacos with all the toppings you could want with them. I thought the prices seemed a little high, but if they keep everything high quality that should be fine. The other two people with us had problems with their meals, one was probably an honest mistake and the other was with the quesadillas. The manager (I think he was a manager) was not helpful at all when we stated our problems, if it wasn't for my tacos this would definitely be a 2-3 star review. Another waiter just happened to stop by later and even he seemed more helpful than the "manager." Overall, order the tacos and have a great time with the waitstaff.

First of all, difficult to find the entrance. Inside is just ok, seemed a bit unclean. On the plus side the food came out very quickly. Super hot and reasonably priced. On the negative size a Presidente Margharita is priced at 10.00!! Way over priced. Just an ok place not overly impressed probably will not go back.

My husband and I were delighted with the meal we had here, about a month after they opened. The decor and ambience were great, and the service excellent. We tried taquitos to start, and they were terrific, as were the chips and salsa. I loved my Baja fish tacos, and my husband also loved his beef burrito. We both also had giant margaritas that were fantastic. Prices weren't bad. We live nearby and will definitely go back!

Tried the Frontera Grill tonight for the first time and we were all blown away!!!! I can't recommend it enough! Their salsa? OMG amazing!!!! Saw this place pop up and had to try it. Nicely but simply decorated inside. We were greeted by the usual smiling faced teenager type greeter. The waiter was attentive and friendly. The chips and salsa was OK, the salsa (served in a neat little carafe) was mostly liquid with not a whole lot of chunky stuff to dip into, but tasted good. I ordered the seafood chimichanga, which tasted good and had a really good sauce. My only complaint was the rice was some type of Minute rice, not long cook rice that has way better texture and flavor. Also the beans were pretty bland. The menu was large, with decent choices and the prices were fair. If I go out to a Mexican place again, I would probably not go again unless On The Border or Casa Da Nana closes.... Just didn't stand out enough to try again.....

Purchased a $24 Groupon (for $48 of food) as a Christmas gift for my husband. Before dining there, we were disappointed that we could not locate an online menu to plan our dinner, and get the most out of the Groupon, which stipulated 1 appetizer, 2 entrees. Everything started out great: we were seated immediately by a warm and welcoming staff, who took our order and brought out our appetizer (boneless wings) within minutes. They were very spicy and served piping hot--very encouraging. We did notice that once we were seated, although the staff were attentive, they were not personable; when approached by the guacamole cart, we said "no, thank you" (I, unfortunately, dislike guacamole), the woman gave us a look of disgust (I'm not kidding). Our waiter hardly looked at us or smiled. The meals, again, were served right away, and although delivered hot, they were fairly unremarkable. My husband ordered a trio of enchiladas, and I had a pork dish (the pork was delicious--moist and flavorful), but the sides (refried beans & rice), and the enchiladas were bland. We realized when reviewing the menu that there were no combinations that could possibly yield the full value of the Groupon. In the end, instead of getting $24 of "free" Groupon food we got roughly only $10. Fuming as we left the restaurant, we faced a gauntlet of no less than 5 employees bidding us an overly-enthusiastic "goodnight, and thank you", which seemed like a hollow gesture at the other end of the experience. We will never return.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
