Come on now, who are we kidding? The food is disgusting, the service sucks, and it's over-priced. BTW, the service doesn't suck because the wait staff doesn't work hard, it sucks because that seems to be built-in as part of IHOP's business model and I don't think you are allowed to own a franchise if you plan on serving decent food so don't blame the cooks either. IHOP sucks . . .all of them . . .so much, so consistently, and in so many ways that it MUST be on purpose. I was going to give it one star, HOWEVER, there is always 3am, when IHOP saves the day: 1) When your ability to make good choices has been diminished by too much alcohol, drugs, lack of sleep, or all three, you probably could have wound up eating something worse. So thank you IHOP for being there as a safe alternative to those people, and thank your buddy in the morning for grabbing your sleeve as you tried to leave the party or club with a new friend and insisting "No..your coming for "blueberry" "pancakes" with "blueberry" "syrup" at IHOP with US." 2) Who cares about food, service, or prices at when its 3am and you are breaking bread with a bunch of friends? 3) If you or someone near you pukes all over the floor, booth, or table, hey, that's cool, apologies are appreciated but it's almost expected, no shame babe, it happens, they'll have it pink-dusted and mopped up in seconds. It's one of the unique services that comes with serving their niche clientele .

cinnamon and chocolate chips atop the whipped cream piled on top of the BOTTOMLESS cup of hot cocoa for $2.49. 'nuff said. if you need to know more, open till 4 am everyday, the perfect late-night spot for laughing hilariously. just remember - ihop is only an amazing place after midnight.

There was a time when I had just moved to Boston and this is the only pancake place I knew. Then I discovered better places and have never gone back. They are always inconsistent in service, quality and friendliness I might add..

Man...the only place open to eat when everything closes down at 130 is IHOP. And to make matters worse, its a small one, so it was totally overcrowded and the wait was terrible. Then the food...well its IHOP. You would think it would hit the spot after drinking...but it didnt. LOL.

I am so satisfied right now. First of all, waitress Jackie greeted us with a smile, got us our drinks with more smiles, and let us take our time with the menus. When one of my companions asked if she could get a side salad with her omelet instead of pancakes, Jackie said she'd ask if it would be extra. When she revealed that it was, she offered instead a bowl of fresh fruit at no charge. Excellent service. For $8.50 I got the country fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetable, and soup. Jackie even asked if I wanted the gravy on the side. My excitement over the meal was heightened by the availability of split pea soup--my favorite--and it actually came out piping hot. The only drawback were the frozen mixed vegetables. One of the carrots tasted like it had a kerosene center. Should have got the corn. Here's an update: Came in on a very busy Sunday, which is always a test to see how well a new place is doing, and was told the wait would be 10 minutes. No problem, but I can't stand waiting in restaurants themselves, so I popped into a store next door and returned 10 minutes later...just after they gave my table away. The woman behind the counter was mortified, but I told her no problem, it's my own fault. And boy, was it a fault, cause then I waited 15 minutes! She would occasionally catch my eye and give me a smile of intense sorrow and helplessness. The manager is very personable, chatty, and has fun with people's names as he seats them: "Sabrina, party of two. You sound like a movie star!" A random waitress got me my rather small glass of milk (same size as juice glasses, by the way), but couldn't take my order. My waiter spent most of his time at a machine on the wall, typing in people's orders. He seemed overwhelmed, but very polite and doing his best. A woman at the table next to me asked for a fruit bowl instead of pancakes and was told it wasn't possible. I felt like saying, "Yes it is! It's in my review," but decided not to creep out complete strangers. I overheard people at another table complain about their meals and the service, but my biscuits and gravy with sausage links came out just fine, so I'm not changing the stars above because what really matters, at the end of the day, is my happiness.

Damn... Annie P. beat me to the IHOP review by only an hour!!! Oh well. I guess all I have to really add is that I simply love IHOP. Don't know why. It just puts a big ol' goofy smile on my face every single time I go to one, and now that there's one in Harvard Square, you'll know where to find me from now on! This place is brand spankin' new, so the service is still kind of shaky, but nothing that can't be fixed in a few weeks or so. Once the servers actually have the menus memorized and remember where everything is, I'm sure it'll be a fine establishment for breakfast after binge-drinking at Charlie's.

Although this IHOP is cleaner than your usual IHOP, that is about the only thing it has going for it. The food here was absolutely terrible. I have been to numerous IHOPs across the country and always get good food no matter where I am...but somehow this IHOP falls very short of my expectations. I dont know if they use different recipes/ingredients or if they have drunk college kids as their cooks, but something definitely makes this place sub-par.

IHOP doesn't really come that high in my book. I mainly remember it as that place that my dad liked to take us for Sunday brunch only to find out that everyone else's dad was just as lazy. Nowadays, if I eat breakfast (most of the time I get up too late for it to happen) I mostly cook for myself, but there are just some times when that isn't an option. Finding your sleep schedule completely night shifted and waking up just after midnight in the middle of January is one of these times. Fortunately this IHOP, by virtue of being open late enough for my friends to form a food mob at midnight, gains my sympathy. It's a haven in a storm, where by haven I mean a place that serves halfway decent food that at this time of night isn't absolutely sketchtastic. Let's be honest here: IHOP is a chain restaurant. The menu is the same over the whole country. I can go ahead and say that this particular incarnation of IHOP isn't as bad as they come. The food is decently cooked at indecent hours of the night and though there are better deals out there the prices won't kill you. To its credit, this IHOP is spanking clean, probably because it's one of the newer establishments in the area. As with any chain restaurant of this type, you get what you pay for; it's a cheap eat and the service is correspondingly unresponsive. You probably don't want to deviate too far from the set menu. In the end, IHOP is at best a run-of-the-mill place. While it's the best option for a late night food mob, if you go by there during the day my personal recommendation is pay $5 extra for your meal and head to Takemura, which happens to be right underneath and far more worth the trouble of eating out.

I understand eating at ihop at 2 am after a long night of drinking, but unless you have no gag reflex, eating at ihop should be your last resort. We went for breakfast and chose their new cheese cake pancake with a side of nausea and the viva French toast that looked and tasted like industrial processed food. On a bright note the OJ was good. I know chains aren't supposed to be gourmet places but come on....

This place is clean, in a good location if you are walking around Harvard Square. There is an expensive parking garage next door as well. I don't know what it is about IHOP but the last two times I went there, shortly thereafter I almost had to run to the bathroom. I think it's the pounds of butter they put on the pancakes or maybe in the eggs. The last time I went to IHOP was the one on Soldiers Field Rd. in Brighton. Avoid eating the horrible food here. Unless you are constipated in which case head there immediately.

  • Imani H.

Well this place feels like a dinner more then a restaurant. The services there was very nice and polite. the atmosphere in that place was very quick and sometimes relaxing. Quick means that the service there was always there and get you stuff that you need, but it's hard to get their attention because they are always in a rush. But it's also relaxing too. With the food tasting so good and warm and the area being so comfortable. This is the type of place that would be great to go out with your families and your friends!

    (4)
  • J C.

The only good thing about this place is that it is now open until 4, so you can go eat there after boozin', and it's a bit closer to Boston than the old IHOP in Brighton near Soldier's Field Road. The cons? Generally slow service, loud and obnoxious (and I was drunk when I saw these people, so that's saying something) annoying Harvard kids, they seem to run out of something just about every time I've been there (forget about ordering soup after about 10PM or so) and it's usually so busy that you have to wait for a table. Basically, if you really have to pee, there's a clean bathroom (that oddly smells like bubblegum) and if you're drunk enough not to care about the Harvard kids drunk off of 2 beers, screaming laughing, then it's OK, I guess.

  • Khalid S.

I went there very reluctantly cause I wanted to go to the Sushi place nearby but my friend insisted on eggs and pancakes, so I didn't enjoy my omelet as I would've otherwise. The restaurant is very clean, maybe cause it's new. I had the spinach and mushroom omelet and pancakes with coffee.

The food here is disgusting, but I still gave it four stars. Why? Because I love disgusting breakfast foods. And that's what IHOP is good for.

  • Sana A.

Okay. So the thing is. I like IHOP. I like the greasiness of the food, the horrible customer service, the influx of either aged fellow diners or high school kids hanging out and the lame names for their pancake "bundles". I like it all. Growing up, this is where we went when the mall closed. THIS is where we lived. In college, it was Eat N' Park (see a trend?) The thing is...IHOP is open late. If you've skipped dinner and only realized it at 11 on a weekday, save delivery, there is NOWHERE to go, well except IHOP. Leaving a bar in Harvard Square? Hungry? Why wait, IHOP is around the corner. It's yummy in all it's greasy goodness. Personally, I enjoy the fake smiles of the "waiters" as I walk in. I enjoy the long waits before you get your sprite with Jell-O in it ( whoever came up with that is genius, btw). I enjoy it all. Plus it's cheap. All in all. 3 Stars. But mostly because I'm a masochist.

  • Atrebor B.

This branch of IHOP gets big points for being spanking new with the cutlery still a shining. The restaurant is clean with no food stains on the booths. I had the "breakfast sampler" (2 eggs, 2 bacon strips, 2 pieces of ham, 2 sausage links, hash browns - half of which came home in a box with me) and the "cinn-a-stacks" french toast (as seen on TV). The french toast was warm and cinnamony with icing drizzled on top and a small pat of whipped cream, all for $8.40. I was in general quite satisfied with the average food but for my server who was absent-minded and lacking in service. I suppose it's hard to blame him though since there are certainly better places to be on a Friday afternoon. They also have weekday "Value Meals" at $7.99 with choices like pot roast, fried fish, chicken fried steak with salad, veggies, beverage and dessert. Check it out but beware of Harvard kids in their Harvard shirts with their overzealous Harvard pride.

Not gonna lie - I have a huge soft spot for all IHOPs, anti-chain impulse be damned! Used to live relatively close to this one, and it served me well through the years. Fairly spacious, generally not a long wait, and on point food and service. (When I was a meat-eater, I usually went for the chicken and waffles, and it hit the spot every time!) Recommended!

By far the worst service I have ever experienced. When we arrived, the host was on his cell phone sitting at a booth. After being seated, we waited for a waiter for 20 minutes. We weren't even offered a water before we handed the menus back to the host and walked out. Hey, IHOP, don't hire lazy people.

    (1)
  • Griffin B.

The service here is usually terrible. Of the four times I've gone, only once was the service up to par. Today, the server took more than fifteen minutes to take our order. fifteen minutes after that, he came back to make sure my order (which had no options or changes) was correct. Worth noting that the place was entirely dead. 15-20 after that, we got our food. All of it was delicious -- except for the salad, which was entirely wilted and had many brown lettuce leaves. Terrible service, even for Harvard Square. Not going again.

  • Cindy H.

I am not a big fan of IHOP to start, so the fact that the service could not be any worse. I walked in and was not greeted by anyone for at least five minutes. Call me impatient, but it's a teeny tiny IHOP and I came at a popular hour. I saw at least five workers scrambling around without any regard for incoming customers. When a waitress finally came over, she told us it was busy and that there would be no tables. No time estimate to wait, no warm greeting, no goodbye. I have come in the past and the food was mediocre at best. I will definitely take my business elsewhere.

    (1)
  • Kza W.

No one to greet at the front. No salutation. And on top of that they've got one waiter for the whole entire a joint. Completely unacceptable I won't be coming back here. Better to go to Soldier Field rd.. .they'll never do this...& it was a holiday! !!!!!

  • Ronna L.

Best IHOP ever. There was only one waitress there when I went but that's cause it was at night so the food took kinda long to come but she tried her best & it was all worth it. Food actually tastes better than all other IHOP locations that I've been to in the area. Had the appetizer sampler w onion rings, chicken strips w fries, bacon cheeseburger w fries, and tropical island twist. BOMB.

  • Aisha A.

Me and my friends were in many other IHOP locations within the states and always were satisfied enough to handle the wait and some mistakes which can occur. But this time it is just ridiculous and not acceptable the way server is talking to customers and how they perform for WHAT they Actually get paid. This is your job, and I know it gets crazy and you can deal with customers all day long. I also work at the retail/customer service, but if I would be getting this type if service at the place I working I would get fired for sure. Wait is more then an Hour and we are still waiting patiently and hoping to get our food and finally leave. It's ridiculous. If you have something on your mind and want to go eat at other place Please do so because it not worth the wait and frustration while you just want to simply eat and get going.

I remember going to IHOP once in high school and thinking it was THE best breakfast food ever! Several years later when I revisited, the experience was rather less than satisfactory. If you are a pancake lover, I would recommend the all-you-can-eat pancakes for $4.99. The quality of the pancakes are just okay. I've definitely had better but it's such a good deal and you can easily get the bang of your buck. There are 4 kinds of syrups: old fashioned, blueberry, strawberry, and boysenberry. While my friends had the pancakes, I chose the fish and chips, which consisted of fish, fries, a slice of garlic bread, and some tartar sauce. The portion was smaller than I expected but still filling. The fish was nicely fried and went well with the tartar sauce. I just wished there was more of it. The fries were warm and crispy. I really appreciated it when the waitress brought us a bottle of ketchup and hot sauce without us requesting them. I have to have my fries with ketchup and the hot sauce gives them a nice kick. The garlic bread was nicely done as well. I could taste the garlic and olive oil. The appetizer sampler was good to share with friends. We opted for fries instead of onion rings. While I enjoyed the food, the service was subpar. Maybe I shouldn't have expected so much since it's an IHOP after all, but it got a little tiring when we had to repeatedly ask our waitress to bring over certain things like another stack of pancakes or a glass of milk for our coffee. It was an early afternoon on a Saturday, so the restaurant wasn't busy enough to justify the lack of attentive service. Speaking of coffee...do not get it! Do yourself a favor and go to a coffee shop instead. The coffee at IHOP, while unlimited, was so watered down and weak that it didn't even taste like coffee anymore. Since it opens late, this would be a sweet spot for late night munchies. However, if you are looking for a nice brunch place, there are many more better options in Harvard Square.

  • Ola F.

I'll keep this short and sweet. I found a roach under the tray of syrups. I proceeded to kill said roach and completely lose my appetite. The waitress was unfazed (does this happen often?), though she did apologize and take 20% off the bill (yes others in my party continued to eat despite said roach). Needless to say, I won't ever be going back here.

This is the worst IHOP in the world .... Terrible service , terrible manager for even letting this place get this bad , this place will never get its act together! Doesn't even deserve the one star

This is hands down the worst IHOP that I have ever been to. I went there with two friends and the place was died....That alone should have told me to run. But I was hungry and stayed. Big mistake the servuce was terrible and the food even worse and then to top it all off after the fact myself and both of my friends get sick....Just stay away from this location. I AM WARNING YOU

Came here because it's the only place open past 1 in the area. Understaffed; waited ten minutes just to be seated, only to find out there's not a single power outlet anywhere in the seating area.

Wonderful food--eggs were cooked perfectly and pancakes were delicious. Their hot drinks aren't amazing. I am most impressed that they were open today (after 10 inches of snow fell last night). Service was extremely friendly and overall, this was a good experience.

    (4)
  • Wei S.

Chocolate pancakes were just fine. They say "chocolate chips in and out"... I only saw some chips inside. Their hash brown was not good, Denis dose it much better. My boy friend had French toast with fruits on top, which was good. Will try something different next time.

  • Farah A.

The food was alright. Though we sat down waiting for 20 minutes for them to get our orders. Kept asking them to take our orders, but the waiters kept saying that they'd come back, while they took 4 other orders of people who came after us, when we were ready a long time ago. Was NOT SATISFIED. Although, I'd come back for the food, but not it's service at all.

  • Helene F.

I'm giving this a 5 star rating because of its staff. Obviously, the food (and ambiance to an extent) is exactly what you get at any other IHOP, so I'm not going to review that. I went to school for two years across the street and would come here all the time to work late nights on problem sets, or sometimes during the day between meals to have interviews or just coffee (it's awfully calm during the day, which actually affords a lot of privacy. It can get louder at night though). The waiters are just really nice and help, while remaining unobtrusive. I remember several late nights ordering refillable drinks that would just keep getting refilled without my even asking for it, or even noticing it! On a couple occasions, they let me stay past closing time while I was wrapping up some assignments and they were closing up. Overall, a great service experience.

  • Jennifer H.

This is a clean, bright IHOP with friendly staff that is, most importantly, open really late (or really early depending on how your day is structured). This was mecca at 3:00 a.m. after a night out downtown. My bacon was crisp as requested, and my scrambled eggs were solid (considering this is an IHOP). The pancakes, I find, are always a little bit dry, but again, it was 3:00 a.m., so I would have eaten cardboard with syrup on it.

  • Andrea B.

I can't believe that I've never been to an IHop in all my 25 years, until now. Their pancakes make for yummy late-night food. Like really, REALLY late-night food, if you want, since they are open to 4 AM, when most everything else in Boston is closed. I was there around 9 or 10ish on a weekend night, and service was pretty slow. The place was about half-empty, though I suspect it may be more busy during the school year, when all the college kids are in town. They've got your standard buttermilk pancakes and chocolate chip pancakes and strawberry-banana pancakes on the menu. And then they have some things that are a little more out there, like red velvet pancakes, if you're really looking for something that's over-the-top sweet. They've also got your standard variety of omelets, eggs, and toast. But why would you bother with any of that? If you're going to go to the International House of Pancakes, you best be gettin' some pancakes!

    (3)
  • Huong H.

Went here instead of the ihop in brighton/watertown because that olace is always busy on the weekend. The wait wasn't so bad. Every one there was really nice. Not as big as the brighton/watertown location and parking can be a pain to find here. Just a fyi, the garage next to ihop charge an arm and a leg. We got there at 10:50 and left at 12:05, validating the ticket only gets you $2 off, we end up paying $12. Don't park there if you don't have to. And the best thing was the employee in ihop was giving out a carnation for all the moms.

two stars because they are open very late which is great. This was truly a very bad customer service experience. The host had a conversation with a guy for 23 WHOLE minutes while I was standing there waiting to be seated after traveling in a thunderstorm with my 8 year old brother who just wanted some pancakes. I had to stop the guy in his conversation and ask him if we could please be seated. He said "of course!". After we sat I said he just wants some pancakes. My little brother is moaning and groaning about how hungry he is. The guy gave my little brother a VERY DIRTY LOOK. He told HIM that when he is ready to take our order he will be back. I said to him he just wants some pancakes. He continues to walk away ignoring us. WE WERE THE ONLY GUEST IN THE RESTARAUNT! ok, so at this point I realize that he is saying the right things to not cross the line but his actions were very rude. So about 10 minutes later we place our order. Food takes about another 10-15 to come out (why it took that long to give him some pancakes beats me). to be honest I was about to leave him a 5$ tip but I jus couldn't. I actually went back for the tip and left him a single dollar. He treated us like we were not going to tip him, so just because you want to assume then that's what your going to get!

One word: This place isn't so good. After a night out (at Noir, see previous review), we decided to come here instead of getting Shawarma. Unfortunately, it was 2 AM so all the drunkards came in from the other local establishments. It was really loud and people were obnoxious and honestly it made me really uncomfortable and irritable. The food is also standard iHop quality. Many calories, really heavy, really filling, and not very good. Two of us ordered their "chicken and waffles" and it was likened to something worse than something from a TV dinner. Anyways, this started a search for reasonable chicken and waffles in Boston, hopefully we find some. EDIT: We tried coming back here at 3:30 AM one night since nothing else was open, but they refused to serve us (even though they close at 4 AM) because they were washing the carpets. An unfortunate ending to an unfortunate decision to attempt to eat at this unfortunate establishment.

  • Amy G.

I'm giving this place 5/5 stars not for the food, service, or ambiance, cause let's get real -- it's IHOP and all three of those suck. The food takes FOREVER to get to you and unless you ordered the red velvet specialty pancakes, chances are you'll get something similar in your hometown. The service is also mediocre-pretty bad and is the biggest contributing factor to the slow arrival of the food. The ambiance, we don't even really need to get there. But anyway, I'm giving the Harvard Square IHOP a 5/5 because this place has supplanted the most amazing college experience of gorging down deliciously cooked breakfast foods (thanks to the effect of alcohol) after numerous, unforgettable nights of college craziness. Memories are created at this wonderful joint and these will likely not be forgotten.

    (5)
  • Alice B.

Love the food at iHop, however, I don't like the seating, there's no privacy, I feel like everyone in different seats can see and hear everything you do or speak about. They should add seat partitions that cover people's heads so that everyone in the restaurant is not looking at eachother. More privacy please!!!

  • Claire W.

Don't think IHOP can ever be better than 3 stars. But when you have that breakfast food craving, this is the spot! Went for dinner during grad week in May fso that's probably why we were the only ones in the joint. Harvard grads can't be celebrating at IHOP...shoot. My friend and I each ordered something off the $7 deal menu: - banana bread french toast: it was just OK. Nothing special. - waffles and chicken: waffle was kinda skimpy (like they didn't fill up the waffle maker with batter) but chicken strips are legit (as usual) Highlight of the meal: splattering strawberry syrup all over the table. The spout was partially unhinged and you know how sometimes you get the feeling that something might happen but you just continue on with what you're doing...yeah that happened.

  • Sarah F.

The IHOP in Harvard Square is my home. The opening hours are wonderful when you're craving 4AM pancakes, the staff is always friendly and patient with the sometimes intoxicated customers, and the portions are generous. If you're looking for a classy, refined atmosphere, this is clearly not the place for you; but if you're looking for a fun place to hang out with friends and have some comfort food, it doesn't get much better than IHOP! A few tips: -The weekday combo is a great deal when you're hungry ($7.99 for pancakes and a breakfast platter) -The chocolate chip pancakes are amazing, but try to get the buttermilk chocolate milk pancake version to taste the chocolate chips better -You might not think of IHOP as a place to study, but they have plugs, it's very quiet on weeknights, and the bottomless $2.99 coffee sure is a plus!

  • Christopher C.

I've been to this IHOP numerous times. The food is consistently decent and the staff is always courteous. During peak hours, there can be a bit of a wait, but I wouldn't consider it a big issue. My favorite is actually not the pancakes, but the Ham & Egg melt. Of course, the buttermilk pancakes are a must though! The only real negative is the seating as it seems people are stacked on top of each other. Though I can imagine it causes issues for some, it doesn't bother me.

    (3)
  • Andy L.

The food is okay, but the wait is a little bit long. I can't blame them because the restaurant looked like it was slammed. The waitresses were really nice and checked up on us to make sure we had everything we needed. I wouldn't go out of my way to return to this IHop but if I was in the area and I was craving a decent breakfast meal, this would be a good place.

  • Cassy H.

I'm not particularly proud about this... but yes, I do occasionally dine at IHOP. It's usually the place to go late at night/early in the morning... when you're hungry and craving for something to munch on, especially breakfast food. And surprisingly, or maybe not a surprise... this place is actually quite happening at 1am or 2am, so apparently, I'm not the only one that also thinks that eating IHOP at odd hours is weird or inappropriate. Anyway, not much else to say except... be nice to your waiters/waitresses, because they don't need to hear all your drunken stories... or just tip them well.

The food was really good! We've been waiting for long to go back to it. I had the regular sunny side up eggs and my husband went for the southern chicken with eggs and we shared the fluffiest pancakes! My daughter also had pancakes.. we were all very satisfied! The atmosphere is regular though and the decoration is pretty old-fashioned. The staff is always nice and the service is good even on a busy weekend morning.

I went with my friends on Sunday for lunch at noon and it was good food, good space, and (relatively) good service. I don't know why people complain! I ordered the chicken and waffles (~$8) and you get 4 pieces of fried chicken (hopefully!) and 1 waffle divided into quarters. Which is perfect because each quarter can now enjoy the 4 different syrups that come with the table. The only good one is Old Fashioned. The fruity syrups are too sweet and one may suspect because of their lesser popularity they may be switched out less frequently. However, that didn't bother me because you can't taste the difference in new versus old syrup anyways! Although IHOP is not for lingering for too long after the check is paid. This is why service was relatively good...we were hurried out and we skedaddled accordingly. However, I understand because being in the middle of Harvard Square makes this place one hopping joint.

There's not much to say about this IHOP, considering I've never been here sober. From what I recall, the food was decent and arrived quickly. Its pretty busy all times of the night, especially on weekends and my french toast was fluffy as hell. And it was cheap. Well done, Ihop, well done.

The banana oatmeal was decent--it became good once I put a bunch of that yummy boysenberry syrup into it. The fruit salad and English muffin were good too.

IHOP is the perfect place for brunches. I love the portions and I love the combos where you can mix between eggs and pancakes. Prices are good. However, it's not a fancy place and a little bit poorly decorated.

  • Eunice E.

I have been here more times than I care to admit, ha. But it's great for late night food, or an easy brunch. I mean, it's your standard IHOP, with standard fare, at standard prices, and it's easily accessible. There will probably be loads of drunken young folks after midnight on any given weekend, but that's what you get for being smack dab in the middle of the Square. Mostly I just go whenever I want some pancakes... nom nom nom. And their hash browns (with Cholula hot sauce, mmm) aren't half bad, either.

I came here late night a few weekends ago. It looked like a hip hop convention in here - I was waiting for Rick Ross to kick a freestyle. The service was very good but the food was disgusting!! The bathroom and space was dirty and gross. Do not go here!!

I have been to IHOP once for breakfast after pulling an all-nighter. When I was there the food tasted good/ok. I got the vegetable omelet and pancakes. An hour after eating there though I had stomach problems, perhaps as a result of all the butter they put in the food. Don't think I am going back anytime soon.

This is Boston, so there aren't many places you can go to when you are craving something late at night. Well...IHOP is open until 4AM on the weekend!!!! You can't expect the food to rival that of the Capital Grille or anything, but that's totally fine by me. Bottom line: if you are craving some coffee, pancakes, and breakfast food after a night out, this is the place to go. The servers have always been really nice, too.

The WORST IHOP for getting tasty food. Step up your game Harvard square branch!

IHOP is what it is. As its name suggests, they serve pancakes and a host of other breakfast options. It's nothing spectacular, just like every other IHOP/Dennys or other cheap breakfast chain. On the bright side, I've never had to wait to get a table here. The hashbrowns here are pretty good and even better if you ask for them with grilled onions and cheddar cheese on top. IHOP is open at very odd hours and is a good late night food option.

One of the few times I wish that yelp offered a 0 star rating choice. I've been twice to this location and can say, without a doubt, that this is the worst restaurant I have ever eaten at. First visit: food poisoning (had to jump off the subway and run to the closest possible restroom). Second visit: two separate hairs (TWO!!) in my food. As in: ordered food, found a hair, sent it back, got a new order, found another hair! Never again. This place is filthy and disgusting.

Good food, good service, never packed. And CHEAP! They've got a $5, $6, and $7 deal for breakfast all day that's really good. I think the $5 was two pancakes, two eggs, hashbrowns, and sausage or bacon. Great deal.

Huuuge kudos to the staffs for working so late and being so patient late at night. Maybe I got lucked out whenever I was there, but it seems to be everything and everybody(customers) are quite civil although everyone seem to flock in there after 2am. I've experienced horrifyingly bland or worse taste from IHOP at other location, but this location seems to execute and deliver almost flawlessly. I wouldn't call it fine cuisine, but sample platter, burger, omelet I had were pretty solid and satisfying. All wait staffs I encounter were nice, polite and thoughtfully attentive by frequently asking "Are you guys doing OK"?(And doesn't exceed to be "annoying"). This is absolutely my favorite oasis in vampire prime time.

I like the breakfast food here and the service is always great. I usually end up getting the server from Tibet and he already knows what we want to order. It's like my little local place except I have to drive from Malden.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! FREE ORANGE JUICE REFILLS!!! SIGN ME UP!! Ok, the food is not 5 stars, but it's breakfast...all day. And cheap....and the waiters work so hard and probably don't get paid much. I would not get along with anyone who rates IHOP below 4 stars. SHAME ON YOU. IHOP is legend.......wait for it......dary.

I had a hankering for pancakes and IHOP had the answer! And boy oh boy answer it did! I had no idea this little trashy (I say that with love, trust me) gem was hidden in the uppity Harvard Sq. If I had - I would not have waited 16+ months after moving to Boston to eat here! I am sorry...IHOP, did you say you were open until 4:30am? I am sorry, did you say I could get a short stack, bacon, hashbrowns and OJ for like $10. I love you. Beware - it IS IHOP food. That being said, you should know what you are getting into. It is like going to a McDonald's and being shocked that you have gut-rot afterwards. You are supposed to feel shame after you eat at IHOP, McDonalds, etc - that is how it works people! Staff is nice. Restaurant is clean. I have never been here at a busy time, thankfully - but I am sure I will be here at a post-bar rush at some point. IHOP - I heart you!

I've been to this IHOP twice, both times because my bus picks me up at 7:30 when I don't have to be to work until 9:45 so I have some time to kill. That being said, both times I've ran out of this place. The first time I went I got the usual scrambled eggs, pork sausage, and pancakes. Pancakes and sausage tasted like they did at any other IHOP but the eggs were plain disgusting. They had obviously been sitting under a heat lamp for quiet some time because the top of the them had begun to turn dark yellow and they tasted like they were cooked on a griddle that they never cleaned. This most recent time, 30 minutes ago to be exact, was a bit worse. Was seated immediately after another single and right next to them. A little awkward considering there weren't more that 5 people in the restaurant. She was helped right away but I waited 20 minutes from any kind of acknowledgment from the waitstaff. They also sat me directly across from the kitchen in plain view of them and the food being made. So as soon as my waitress approached I knew what I wanted. Two eggs, sunny-side-up, 2 links, and 2 pancakes. Then I sat there... for 20 minutes again. Watching the waitstaff chitchat, watch a waiter change a light bulb by standing on a table and then not wiping it down (even though he brushed the seat off where he stepped) and watched my neighbors food sit under the lamps for the entire 20 minutes. Tough break for her but then again, I assume my was sitting their a while too. Got my food! Great! Except, the sausage links were wrinkly, the pancakes were cold, and the eggs had that same weird taste. BUT! This is why I ordered them sunny-side-up. What tasted bad was the yolks, which never touched the griddle. I don't know what kind of eggs this location uses but they are absolutely gag-worthy! AND the whites were still considerably uncooked. I ate only the pancakes and left. Oh well, another chain that just can't figure it out.

The classic IHOP sits at the corner - while always busy, we were seated quickly, and our order taken swiftly. While the single waitress felt a little overwhelmed at times, it might have been the early morning that we stopped by during. The steak and eggs - good, although oily, and the steak had minimal bones. Ham was tasty, but the aftertaste of being cooked on the same space as the bacon. Pancakes felt a little... normal. Orange juice and ice tea refills were swift the first time, and nonexistent the second time... perhaps the waitstaff was just busier. Friendly guy at the cashier, though.

It's a rare day that I go to IHOP. I just don't see the need for it. There are better breakfast places around that have a local touch. HOWEVER, IHOP HIT THE SPOT a few weeks ago. It was 2 am and there was nothing more than I wanted than greasy, subpar, run of the mill breakfast food. Blame it on the booze (no, I wasn't feeling loose. I didn't even have that much of the a-a-a-a-a-alcohol) but IHOP was our destination and where it was at. We arrive as a group of 5. Some of us inebriated. Some of us painfully sober. We order our run of the mill IHOP food and, like the rest of everyone there, have our loud, slightly inappropriate conversation about the night's happenings. What I love about IHOP is that you always know what you're going to get, and you always know it'll be crazy cheap. On top of that, it's a rare day that someone's rude. Plus, pancakes at 2am? Don't lie. You know that's awesome enough to slap yo mama fo.

Ew ew ew. Everything that's wrong with the American food industry is condensed into Ihop. Let's begin with the fact that they don't sell pancakes anymore, they sell "pancake tastes" like cinnamon roll, or blueberry bonanza, or key lime pie.... ok that last one was Yoplait, but the fakeyness is clear. Cinnamon roll pancakes are just a way to send you into diabetic shock with corn syrup. As far as ambiance, there is none. This place is overrun with High School kids, who make the worst customers, which means that the staff here is the absolute bottom of the barrel. That's the bottom of the Hardee's barrel. The customers mistreat them, they mistreat the customers, the cycle continues. No matter how low you adjust your expectations, you'll walk out with that hollow feeling that they weren't met, and that you should have just gone to Dunkins.

This is where we used to go at 2:30 on Saturday mornings after leaving Toast, back when Toast still existed. And what's not to love about IHOP pancakes and coffee at that hour in this city? The only other option was South Street diner, which was too far out of the way, or at least that's likely what the designated driver thought when chaperoning around a car full of intoxicated passengers. What IHOP does need is a g-free menu. Even their omelettes and salads have pancake batter in them. It's possible their water is g-free, however.

The staff is not that great. The guy that was my waiter was on his phone while working! (This is not the first time a staff member has done that at this particular iHop.) Aside from the waiters that really don't care about your experience here, the food is OK. Could be a little better but its good enough for the price being paid 1 more thing, the strawberry cheesecake pancakes are GREAT!! stay AWAY from the chocolate chip pancakes. That is all...

  • Shelley D.

The last time I was here, the server didn't know the menu and couldn't figure out that there was a pancake meal on the light side, and then there are a side of pancakes. After waiting forever for the food to arrive, the server ended up giving me a side of pancakes instead of the meal. Oh well, I like the IHOP in Dedham a lot better.

At 2:30A on a Thursday night after drinking for hours, IHOP is definitely a five star affair. They have a whole appetizer devoted to fried things! Syrup is so amusing to drunks! The other characters inhabiting IHOP are similarly impaired and fun! Who doesn't love drunks? IHOP is a bit less exciting at 8A on a weekday. They make ok food, but there are other options in Harvard Square that do better than ok. They have ok service, but ok food+ok service = less than ok, kind of like multiplying fractions. It would probably be a 2 star affair without those lovely hours of post-drinking, drunk-eating experiences.

I have concluded that there was a reason that despite the years it has been open HS I have not been. But we needed a kid-friendly place for a 2 1/2 year old and his parents. That it is and now the kid just has to grow up-quickly. First, I am not a pancake fan in general but it falls below a zero star without real maple syrup. So of our party of five I was navigating around pancakes. And so apparently was everyone but the kid, who his parents told the server NO butter (he is allergic) but that is the way it came anyway. I ordered the eggs benedict. BAD DECISION. The hash browns were cold, the sauce was a pudding, the eggs were poached to hard-boiled perfection (?) and don't get me started on the "Canadian bacon." My husband ordered the vegetarian omelet which he said was pretty tasty so I upped the review by a star. Oh well.

Another EDIT: Went there the evening of 4/15/08. The worst attitude from my waiter ever. I may call management today. And the fruitflies where still there. I will NEVER go here again... EDIT: Went there for lunch between 12 PM and 1 PM today, 1/14/09. FRUIT FLIES. They have to do something about the fruit flies or I will not go back there... === I work in Harvard Square and have gone here for lunch a few times. I like it. I like the wait staff between 12 noon and 2 PM, M-F. At night after work I don't recommend it. The wait staff seems young, like freshmen college age or younger and they have a 'tude. Brunch on the weekends I also do not recommend just because you are waiting for skinny college students with hangovers to finish their breakfasts. Yep, the wait is always looooong but the waitstaff on the weekend are fabulous. I have never had a problem with the food here. I either order breakfasty things or a BLT. The bacon tends to be blah but everything else I have always enjoyed especially their coffee which they leave a pot of on your table. Coolness!

God bless the employees at this IHOP. Granted, any IHOP has it's share of drunk dorks coming in late night - but this location seems to have its own odd brand of late night theater whether it's my better half using a full two tables' worth of maple syrup on an order of "pancakes, with a side of belgian waffles, with a side of french toast" or the north shore chick repeatedly yelling out "Bone In" because it is part of a menu item's name or the 25 SciFi geeks showing up in full garb after an evening of role playing (I didn't ask for details). or.....the list goes on. and still the waitstaff is patient and friendly. granted, my fear that someone's junk got dipped in my grits are likely justified. But it's the price you pay for goofy, late night greasy options.

There is a definite time and place for IHOP. That time is when you are very, very hungry, drunk (hungover is also acceptable...this time), and only have six dollars that you managed to find in your g-string when you woke up this morning. To make your IHOP successful you need to prepare yourself. Do you just mosey on into the dentists' office or into a graveyard? Of course not--you have to get in the mindset that you are going to see some heinous stuff. I mean, after all it is IHOP we are talking about. For instance, I was at a very (VERY) similar establishment in Michigan and a friend and I both ordered omelets. Bobby-Joe, the waitress, forgot whose omelet was whose and proceeded to "peek" inside using her 4 inch acrylic red, blue, and silver nails. Was I deeply disturbed and disgusted? Yes. Did I eat it? OF COURSE! All because I expected some heinous stuff to go down--take that image with you when you go to IHOP. Service. It's IHOP people, its a McDonald's that serves breakfast all day. If you need something just ask the closest waitress, bus boy, etc. I was in here a couple months ago and the cashier asked a man in a suit how everything was. His reply was, "The food was great, the service was horrible." I'm sorry they didn't treat you like the maharishi in this joint, buddy, maybe next time you wont go someplace whose name is an acronym since most people couldn't read the "big word" (or any type of international house of anything). This place is open late, like 4am late. At that time you could eat an entire squirrel and you would be happy. The big sampler is like mana from heaven: eggs (any style), hashbrowns, sausage, ham, bacon, pancakes (old fashion, boysenberry, strawberry, and blueberry syrup included). You can order the special pancakes to get delicious crap put on top--just please don't order them in you are diabetic, I would hate to be eating here and then run over and stabilize you if you slipped into a hyperglycemic coma (my pancakes would start to get warm). The prices are cheap and with all the syrup you can have drinking contests--just don't be the one that has to do strawberry. Bottom Line: Why are you wearing a g-string anyways? Boxer briefs over superior comfort and support. Also go here for all you can eat pancakes when theys gots it, yo!

There's nothing wrong with this IHOP; it just really lacks anything worth coming back for. The service was ok, the food was ok, the prices were ok... It was overall just fairly bland. If I was hungry and nothing else was open, I would certainly come back. I didn't regret my trip, but it did remind me that IHOP really isn't that great.

Oh snap. Welcome to Harvard Square. 7AM-2AM. A few stores down from Charlie's ..around the corner from The Redline.. You may detest the fact it might be ruining Harvard Square's eliteness to chain restaurants.. but it's still here... so might as well put away your snooty nose, whip out your running pants and get The Rooty Tooty Fresh N' Frooty. No car? Live in Cambridge? Not much moola? It might be just what people are worried about but I know where we'll be going for some late night breakfast after a long night out. If you would rather support a local business, try Z Square. Coffee was good. Over Medium eggs came out over easy but waitress was quick to fix it and the kitchen added on some extra breakfast meat for some reason.

This place is open til 4am. In this area, that characteristic alone merits five stars. As you might expect from a chain location in Harvard Square, this IHOP is cleaner and better presented than the average IHOP. I'd even dare come here during the day.

I ordered the Breakfast Sampler and the bacon was way too salty. The pancakes wasn't fluffy and good. The portion was huge and it filled me up. It wasn't expensive but given the quality of the food it, it was probably why. The waiters weren't attentive and the hostess looked like she didn't even want to be there and it ruined the whole mood of the restaurant. I don't think I want to come back again unless I'm broke and hungry.

Me versus my cheapness Who wins? those junk mail Value-saver coupon packs which usually end up in the trash but this time happened to include a tantalizing offer for free shortstack buttermilk pancakes in celebration of IHOP's 50th anniversay Shortstack of buttermilk pancakes (B-); weirdly chewy on the edges, not very fluffy in the middle, rescued by a thorough drenching in boysenberry syrup that tasted wonderfully artificial Side order of hash browns - bleh, could have been a lot crispier and with more grease Endless carafe of coffee - kind of tasteless but drinkable and caffeinated Henrietta's table this is NOT but I was going to let things slide since this is IHOP we're talking about here. However, I was still shocked when my bill (without the coupon) ended up being around $10! I mean, i could have gotten pancakes, bacon, eggs, hash browns, and coffee for less than $5 at any of other great greasy-spoons in the area. So, after seeing the bill I wasn't too sheepish about brandishing the coupon!

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO I suppose this place is fine if there's no one else there, and the staff doesn't have to do anything other than drop your meal (that they screwed up) in front of you and walk away to go sit somewhere. If anyone other customers are there, be wary, and if there's a wait just leave. I've given them many chances, but I think this story really sums up in Harvard sq Ihop. My last trip there I was surrounded by people, and was told 10-15 minutes for a table for two. Ok, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. maybe a church group showed up and they're all waiting for half the restaurant to leave so they can push tables togheter. After 30 minutes, a couple got seated ahead of us and another couple started freaking out because they had been waiting longer. So the obnoxious couple got seated, and the original couple were promised the nexxt table. 20 minutes after that (we've been waiting for 50 minutes now) three other couple had been seated in front of the original understanding couple. When asked about it, the "hostess" seem really amazed that those two people, who had been standing in front of her the entire time weren't seated. At that point we left and went to the Burren. So to sum up my review in one word - "NO"

I cannot, in good conscience, give this place more than one star based solely on the fact that the only two times I have been here, not 20 minutes after leaving, I've experienced the most massive attack on my bowels I've ever experienced. There are other factors that influence my dismal rating, including how outrageously priced this garbage is. However, I do have to mention the service is always super friendly and attentive. They are always patient and nice at this disaster ihop. Honestly, if you take this risk, truly stick to the basics...get a coke and one pancake, or a basket of fries. Unless your body is used to laxatives and sewage, I think anyone would be hard pressed to enjoy a dining experience here.

I don't understand the hype surrounding IHOP. I know some Yelpers are diehard mom-and-pop/local restaurant fans, but this review is not about that. Harvard IHOP's food is passable at best; service is abysmal. I went for an early afternoon meal. There were only a few customers. The server barely acknowledged us as she took the order, then ignored us as we tried to get our water refilled. Before we had all finished our meal, she dropped the check on the table and began rushing to clear the plates. In her haste, she dropped my plate on my boyfriend's food as he was still eating. Without so much as a mumbled apology, she picked the plate back up, gathered everyone's water, and left. Oh and also the overpowering antiseptic bathroom smell permeated the restaurant. Loverly.

It's IHOP!?!?!?! I mean what more do you want. You know what you're getting into when you go in here. I laugh at people who expect this place to be some high class restaurant..... Come on people they do most of their business after 12 am and cater to the club people who are coming in there smashed out of their minds most of the time. Exactly what kind of service and food are you looking for? I know that at 2 am I'm looking for something I'll feel guilty about eating. I'm going there cause it's one of the few places thats OPEN at 2am. If you went into an IHOP expecting something else then it's your fault not theirs.

Went here for dinner after 21h with my Dad and my friend, Gianna, after a long day. After opening a restaurant for lunch and then walking around and sight-seeing in Boston, it definitely hit the spot and I certainly went home satisfied for the night. My Dad and I used to go here years ago because they used to have phenomenal garlic bread WITH CHEESE. They no longer make the garlic bread with cheese, we had to ask our server if they had any to begin with because it's not mentioned anywhere on the menu. We also asked if they could out cheese on the garlic bread and our server made it very clear that it was not an option. Other than that, it was actually quite good and between the three of us, we shared eight of them. It took quite some time to get our meals, which is the reason I'm giving this trip three stars. Besides us, there was only one other party in the restaurant - a five top, so unless our server was also the one cooking everything, there's no excuse honestly. I got a cheeseburger with bacon and fries. I've certainly had better burgers before, definitely. Both the beef patty and the bacon were firm and the cheese had set, a sign that the dish had been sitting out before being served. The fries were seasoned and quite tasty but there was only a small handful of them - the burger itself was larger than the pile of fries on the plate. Gianna ordered a vegetable omelet which she enjoyed. It came with three pancakes which was kind of an odd combination and something she says she wasn't sure was actually mentioned on the menu. My Dad got a BLT which he completely ate, a sign that he enjoyed it but of course the number one reason we were there was for the garlic bread so he was satisfied. He wanted to get a waffle for dessert but we learned that IHOP doesn't do waffles at all. That actually was the only real disappointment of the meal and we'll probably stop by again relatively soon to get some more garlic bread.

Decent service and food for 10 o'clock in the evening. It's standard pancake-house fare, and everything tasted good. I was pleasantly surprised at how tidy and how much cleaner this place was as compared to other pancake-houses I've been to over the years. It wasn't immaculate, but I couldn't really complain. You can even order al la carte pancakes, and other things, as I found out. These aren't on the menu; just ask your server. :)

So, after a long night at work, a friend of mine took me out to eat at this IHOP. It's not right by the Harvard Sq. Station so we had a nice little walk. They have meter parking right out side and parking garage are available also. When we walked in, I thought this place was going to be packed but, I was fooled. We was place at a table right away...our table of choice :) and ended up at a nice little booth. Not too long after a group of people came in and kind of ruined the pleasant atmosphere. They was just overly loud, being rude to the waiter, and talking about things that I would dare say out loud...and in public at that. Then one of the guys in that group had a nerve to walk all the way to my table and ask for a smoke. No I don't smoke and if I did, I wouldn't have given you one either. So other then that little experience, Ihop was pretty decent inside. The waiter was wonderful. I'm not sure if they was low on staff or if they waiter just wanted to cook for once but, he made my meal personally and my hot chocolate. He made everything look so beautiful. I didn't want to eat it after that, I just wanted to take a picture or something and leave the masterpiece alone. Although the pancakes looked good, the pancakes that I had were just a-ok. Nothing great. And that's my experience...

IHOP, you are a harsh mistress. Even though you are so bad for me, I crawl back to you on my belly, begging for more of the type of deep-fried abuse only you could give. When it's 2am (and I am rather drunk) nothing, I mean NOTHING, can compare to the thought of your omelettes. Somewhere, a sober part of me realizes that these are in fact NOT REALLY MADE OF EGGS, but a strange mixture of egg and pancake batter. At the time it feels so, so good, but (like clockwork) within forty-five minutes you better pray that there is some sort of receptacle nearby. But how could I ever dislike a place that serves something so whimsical it is called Rooty Tutti Fresh and Fruity? The service is indeed spotty, but somehow it is cosmically balanced out by the pleasantness of the staff. A lot of the time it just seems as if they are merely overwhelmed.

When this location opened down the street from my work, we were all excited. Literally couldn't wait to get down there because now finally, after so long, we had a breakfast joint to flock to during the early hours. Yeah, didn't last long. I've ordered bacon there on more than one occasion (just bacon). The times I went, they had trouble placing the goddamn order, and actually said to me: Them: "You want ONLY bacon?" Me: "Yes please." Them: "Umm okay....nothing else?" Me: "YES PLEASE." Them: "I need some help (*called someone's name*) to ring this up because she's ordering JUST bacon and I don't know how to charge her. How much for JUST BACON?" Ok asshole. Is that how they speak to a customer who's ordering more than one order of pancakes? Get real. After bringing it back to eat, I find it undercooked and jelly-like. Almost as if they grilled it just to chase the salmonella away. I was so grossed out that I ditched it. Then a few days later a friend of mine went down there for an order of pancakes, eggs and bacon....well she came back with everything backwards. More like homefries, and something with gravy on it??? WTF? That's why I started checking my food upon leaving a business-even though I'm still getting used to the "I made your food correct, so why are you checking?" glances. Too bad!
