Woo, Bon Me brick and mortar! I'm glad they finally have an actual location with a menu featuring a couple more options. I love all things Asian flavored so I really dig Bon Me's modern culinary approach. They are very vegetarian and vegan friendly, which makes me a happy girl. It's a nice addition to the 1 Kendall Square office area, which truly has a dearth of decent eateries.

Awesome. Great food at great prices!!! This is what fast food should be like!!! Try their sandwiches! Small menu, but everything is very good!

I know it's unfair to compare this to the other cheap and yummy Vietnamese places I've been to (or is it not?), but this place is overpriced for a bahn mi ($6 as opposed to $3.50), and the rate at which my sandwich is made is SOO much slower than the little Vietnamese ladies I visit in Dorchester. I understand that part of the price of the sandwich is probably from the expensive rent that's in Cambridge, but at least make operations on par with the little Vietnamese ladies south of the Charles! I only visited the place once, and I had the braised pork bahn mi. Not bad for a bahn mi, but kind of dry in my opinion. It also lacked the spice and kick that I usually taste in my sandwiches. We asked for jalapeño on the side to stick in our sandwiches. I had put it in every bite, and then my tongue started to swell...... The Thai basil limeade was yummy, too. But I'm confused --- isn't this a Vietnamese restaurant? Why are they serving other Asian delicacies? I'd try to stay consistent as a restaurant if I were them. Overall, not a bad addition to Kendall Sq area in the midst of the microbrewery and Irish pub.

Yay for more Kendall restaurant openings! Bon Me's simple food truck fare, and that minimalism shows throughout. Rice bowl for $6.50, noodles for $7, or a bahn mi for $6, making this place one of the cheaper options in the area. The food's light and delicious. I had the noodle bowl with rice noodles, tofu, and spicy peanut sauce. It comes with bean sprouts, cilantro, onions, and pickled carrots and daikon. The everything-to-noodles ratio was absolutely perfect. Also, the thai basil limeade is to die for. I'm a huge fan of basil + tart fruits (strawberry-basil popsicles are the best thing ever), so this was right up my alley.

I really like this place. It's very vegetarian (even vegan) friendly, which I love, and there are a bunch of options for my husband, the meat eater. I especially like that they have a brick & mortar location now- it may be small, but it's great to be able to get bon me whenever you like without having to hold your craving for a day when the truck might be in your neighborhood. It's a little spendy I guess, but I'm fine with that considering the fresh ingredients and the deliciousness. My one complaint is that they chop up the tofu WAY too small. As a result as I was eating my banh mi at the very end I found a bunch of tofu that had fallen out of my sandwich and were at the bottom of my bag..lame :( It makes more sense to leave the tofu as squares/rectangles (as they do in chinatown) inside the sandwich and chop them up smaller for the other rice and noodle bowl dishes. That way no precious tofu is wasted. Also, I really like the new way they prepare the tofu with paprika instead of the tofu and mushroom version they had last year. WAY more delicious.

I've heard a lot of raves about the food truck and when I found out there was a brick and mortar restaurant in 1 Kendall Square, I just had to check it out and went for a fuss-free dinner. Although I was really looking forward to the sandwiches, I'm trying to avoid gluten (at least in bread form) and so got the noodle salad with soba noodles, Chinese BBQ pork, and Vietnamese vinaigrette. I did find it to be overall tasty and refreshing. However, I gave it 3 stars (maybe more like 3.5) because the pork and dressing were both extremely salty, and I found myself craving some more greens to balance everything out. My husband also got the Vietnamese coffee, which he found to just taste like normal coffee with condensed milk. One other note: although there were only a couple other customers besides us on a quiet weekday evening, just about every table inside and out had leftover bits of food and grime. Maybe we had just arrived after a mad rush, but it would've been nice to have a cleaner environment. I would still go back, though, to try some of the other menu items and combinations and see whether the saltiness was a one-time fluke!

Found this place while looking for a quick lunch bite in the Kendall Square area. Really liked the cheap but promising menu - we ordered a roast pork banh mi and a roast pork noodle salad. Also had a Thai Iced Tea and a Thai basil limeade. The limeade was really tasty! Unfortunately, I thought the roast pork tasted kind of weird - flavor was a little off or not quite fresh, which obviously impacted the flavor of the meal. The menu is so up my alley though I would be willing to try it again and hope the miss was a one-time thing.

I LOVE Bon Me. In fact, I love them so much I track their food trucks. I'm willing to take huge detour home just to bite into that sandwich. Oh that sandwich.... With that said, the sandwich, rice bowls, and noodle salads are awesome. My favorite toppings are the Chinese pork, miso pork or chicken. You can't go wrong with anything. Veggie and gluten free friendly options also abound.

Delicious cheap eat in Kendall square. I ordered the sandwich with Chinese BBQ pork and it was delicious. Perfect size for a quick dinner before a movie. The servers couldn't have been nicer and the food was scrumptious and prepared quickly. I will definitely be going back!

This is a great place for a good deal on what tastes like very clean and relatively healthy food. I got the spiced chicken over brown rice and enjoyed the fresh vegetables that came along side it. The side of edamame was cold, which I've never had before. I've always had it warm. I'm not sure if serving it cold is usual or not. (I prefer it warm. It gives the sea salt a chance to melt and brings out more flavor in my opinion.) All in all, I think this is a good spot for a quick affordable healthy lunch. I think take-out will be my preference as I founf the environment cold and a tiny bit dirty, and also the staff behind the counter must have been having a really bad day, they all seemed very grumpy.

I used to LOVE the bon me food truck when I worked near south station. I would visit it once or twice weekly for lunch. I ordered a brown rice bowl with bbq pork. As usual. the flavors were wonderful but unfortunately everything was a bit cold which is something I've never experienced from Bon Me. I am also used to paying the $6 flat rate at the food trucks and am disappointed I got charged closer to $7 for a colder version of the same thing. I am hoping that this new perma-location is just working out the kinks. I also look forward to seeing some additional menu items available that aren't on the trucks.

Today was my first experience with Bon Me, and it certainly won't be my last! Everything I had during today's catered event was absolutely delicious. I look forward to trying out the rest of the mouth-watering offerings on the menu, and need to check out that food truck. Thanks for a wonderful, healthy lunch.

I came here during weekday lunch hour and it was crazy crowded with nowhere to sit. But service was friendly and everything came quick~! I'm not generally a banh mi person, but I had mine with tofu, it was very yummy. I was really excited that they make deviled tea eggs as well, and they were delicious. The chocolate rice pudding was subar - it tasted like grocery store mixed chocolate pudding with rice added. I would still come back for a quick, satisfying light lunch.

Pretty good food for lunch. Definitely a "to-go" place, as it is very cold and sterile inside, and the seats don't look comfortable. The food, however, was delicious. I had the tofu rice place... excellent. My colleague had the chicken sandwich, and it looked delicious. I miss iced coffee from when I was back in Vietname, and Bon Me's iced coffee really hit home. I'll be coming back when I'm in the area.

Awesome!! This review is for the truck in Harvard Square. I got the tofu sandwich, it was on a level of deliciousness that I have not experienced for quite some time. The flavors were perfect, it was just the right level of spiciness, the amount of tofu was generous. Wear a bib--it is not a neat sandwich to eat. But, it was worth ruining my shirt. So delicious! Amazing you can get better food at the food carts in Harvard Square than at any of the restaurants.

Stopped by Bon Me's new location the other day and had one of their sandwiches with spice-rubbed chicken. The sandwich was great - the combination of fresh pickled veggies and spicy sauce kept the meal flavorful, yet light. (By my unscientific standards, if it tastes healthy, it probably somewhat is?). Also, definitely try a deviled tea egg to complete the meal. Not sure if it'll get too crowded during the busy lunch hour, but the service was quick and friendly on the Friday afternoon I was there. They're also open nights and weekends, which makes it a nice place to stop by for a quick bite whenever.

Kendall Square doesn't scream "Cheap Eats". In fact, it can barely be forced to murmur it between breaths. Affordable isn't trendy. Here comes Bon Me, opening Day, sporting some very basic menu choices: Rice Bowl, Sandwich, Noodle Salad. For $6/7, you say? Well, yes please. If you've had Bánh mì, you get it. Crisp vegetables, an acidic or spicy sauce, meat. Bon Me keeps it simple and gets it right. For example, the bread. If you go to our own precious Chinatown and buy a Bánh mì, it's likely to be served on a French baguette that may or may not contain several inches of dry bread on either side of your tasty filling. At Bon me, the ratio was just right. The bread was thin enough to not imped, but there was enough innards to soak up the sauce and keep it stable for eat-afyin'. Their ratios are right, the meat is tasty, the service is fast. Try their Basil Limeade, try their rice pudding. You really can't go wrong. I'm docking a star simply because none of it Wow'ed me, but i'm sure i'll be buying from there regularly. Also, they're open until 11pm, so if you're done drinkin' in the area, your options just got a lot better and will no longer cost an arm and a leg.

This review is based on having tofu banh mi several times; I haven't tried other things on the menu. I've found that the bread is often served stale and the tofu is rather tough; the other parts of the sandwich are fine. With so many fantastic banh mi options in the greater Boston area, Bon Me falls short. Not recommended for foodies.

The food truck at Harvard yard has become my staple. I'm not so sure about the noodles and the salads, but the sandwich, especially with the Chinese BBQ pork is amazing. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. I can't resist having one for lunch nearly every day.

  • Chann C.

I usually order from their food truck and the usual sandwich I get (chinese bbq pork) is always filling and yummy. This was my first time at their brick and mortar location. I came here on a weekday at 8:20pm and it was closed. Your site says it closes at 9pm...um what? I was pretty bummed out. I came back the following week in the afternoon and ordered a chinese bbq pork sandwich. I was surprised at how bland and gamey the pork was. Service here wasn't that friendly either. No one greets you and the staff look incredibly bored being behind the counter. I think I should just stick to ordering from their food truck, I guess?

Bon Me is my favorite food truck, hands down. I first discovered them at the SoWa market in the South End on Sundays during the summer. The food is so fresh and can easily be modified for food allergies and other issues. They are knowledgeable about gluten-free and have many options!

  • Caroline D.

I love BonMe! I frequented their food truck when I worked near South Station, and I'm thrilled they're also in Cambridge. They did an awesome job catering for a group of 70 hungry Startup Institute students today. I would absolutely recommend them for lunch, dinner, or your next catered event.

Tasty bbq chicken bon me and and excellent thai basil limeade. Neither of these were life-altering culinary experiences, but this place has a great setup for a quick lunch. You can choose from 4 or 5 different meat/tofu options to combine with a rice bowl, a noodle bowl, or a sandwich. They also have assorted extras, like tea-soaked deviled eggs, as well as desserts.

What a great lunch spot and nice Kendall Square alternative to the food trucks. Bon Me has friendly staff, quick service, tasty food - what more can you ask for? While $6 is more than you would pay for a Vietnamese sandwich in Chinatown, the quality is good and considering the price of food in Kendall, $6 is reasonable. I like their soba noodle bowl. It was fresh and had the perfect ratio of pork to noodles and veggies.

HECK YEAH! I have worked in kendall for 8 years and this is the first lunch i have EVER been happy about spending $6-7 bucks on. The soba is great, the tofu is great, the vegetables are crisp, the seasoning is spot-on and not relying on a puddle of grease for flavor. Went at 1230 on a weekday and had my food in about 4 minutes. There's not a lot of seating inside, but plenty outside on the nice courtyard. The chicken is a little meh, but can't wait to go back and try other stuff.

Great addition to kendall square, where you can't grab anytihng on the go, especially on the weekends. 1 star less than perfection, just cause portions are a bit tiny (except bahn mi sandwich)

My wife spoke highly of the Bon Me food truck sandwiches, so when I heard they opened a store in Kendall Sq., I stopped in for a late lunch when I was in the neighborhood. I was a little put off by the cool sterile look of the place; there was a screen up so you could not see any of the food behind the counter, which , as a visual person, I like to do, especially in a place I have never been to. There's a very limited menu, which is fine; I'd rather a place do a few things very well, then try and offer too many choices. They had 2 kinds of pork on the menu, bbq and miso, so I asked the 20-something behind the counter about the difference. She had an attitude and couldn't be bothered explaining the dishes to me, despite the fact I was the only person in line. I decided to try the bbq pork sandwich. I was waiting by the order line near the door, and when the sandwich was ready, she walked it 20 feet away to the pickup counter, yelled out the order, even though I was the only one waiting, and made me walk over to pick it up, rather then just hand it to me. I bit into it; large chunks of gamey, under seasoned pork, with a slimey tasteless 'pate'. I deposited in the trash and walked out of the store for the first and last time. Sometimes I take a road trip up to Lowell, which has one of the largest populations of SE Asians in the U.S., there, I'm used to delicious bahn mi sandwiches, served with a smile that cost 50% less then the Bon Me sandwich. Come up and check out Lowell, it's a cool, historic city. My favorite bahn mi is served at Hong Cuc. It's takeout only; I recommend the chicken or bbq beef for about 4 bucks. Eat it at the park across the street. Thanks for reading this.

Love you, Bon Me! Truck or brick-and-mortar, I am always satisfied with my meal here (which usually consists of a soba noodle salad with tofu, and a basil limeade). I leave here feeling like I've had a tasty, healthy, reasonably--priced and satisfying meal, and what can be better than that? My husband and I have made Bon Me a go-to Wednesday night stop (the truck parked at Harvard) when we're too tired to cook. Husband has tried more of the menu than I have and has been equally happy with his meals.

I have only visited the food truck for this restaurant, but it is my favorite one in all of Boston. You are always greeted with a rousing "HEY, HOW'S IT GOIN?" and the food is incredible. Noodle salads and sandwiches are awesome, made with great products, but honestly... the best thing they serve is the Thai basil green tea -so refreshing and delicious.

  • Gloria L.

I will admit that I'm not much of a banh mi connoisseur, so I can't really compare this to what you find in an "authentic" Vietnamese place (I do know, however, that the sandwiches in the tiny places in Chinatown have sandwiches at half the price). However, I find the sandwiches and noodles to be quite tasty. I like the crispy bread and I find the tofu to be pretty well-seasoned. The Thai iced tea was strange though, it was very sweet, and didn't remotely look like Thai iced tea, but maybe that was just today's batch. We come here pretty frequently to grab a quick bite. It's nice that the area now has a good place that's not sit-down, and is not as pricy as some of the surrounding establishments.

Quite a good banh mi sandwich, fresh baguette, nice ingredients. Thai basil limeade was nice, good to try once. Vietnamese iced coffee very good. Soba noodles are also nice, the sandwich was more satisfying.

Bon Me is a great lunch time option if you're looking for something light with more flavor than a traditional salad. BUT, you have to know what to order first. Filling options: TOFU TOFU TOFU (other options have been deemed irrelevant) Seriously though, get the tofu. My favorite options - Soba Noodle Salad with Tofu and either the Spicy Peanut or Miso Lime dressing. Every time I come to Bon Me and order a tofu item, I walk away feeling great about my meal (5/5 yelp stars). I've ventured out to try the other meats and usually walk away "A-OK" (3/5 yelp stars). I find the meat fillings to be too salty and sometimes dry. If you insist on carnivorous foods, get the Chinese BBQ Pork in a Rice Bowl. The Rice Bowls themselves are blander because they're flavored by a simple soy drizzle, so the saltiness of the pork will go well with it if you mix everything together. If you insist on getting meat in a Noodle Salad, ask for light dressing or else you'll be reaching for the water after a few bites.

I go to the truck, which is nearly always parked near my work at "the Plaza" by Harvard Yard. There's always a long line, but that's gotta because it's fast and tasty. I usually get the noodle salad with tofu - sometimes I go soba, sometimes I go rice noodles, I almost always go toasted sesame dressing. I have also had the sandwich and the rive bowl and they're both delicious as well. They've really got food truck down to a science. Three basic dishes with a lot of options. The line moves pretty fast and the prices are good. I wish there was a veggie option other than tofu (like vegetables? or no protein?) I'm not a vegetarian, but sometimes I don't need the extra protein at lunchtime.

While this was indeed a "pulled pork sandwich", it wasn't even on the same continent as a banh mi. Yes, I know they're supposed to be "untraditional". That apparently includes discarding the tradition commonly called FLAVOR. A good Vietnamese sandwich has a generous helping of daikon, carrot (or other veggie), cilantro, and peppers to give a balance of texture, spice, sour, and sweet. This had a few limp carrots stuffed in the bottom and almost no radish or cilantro. The alleged "spicy mayo" had about as much kick as a no-legged racehorse. Basically, it was a bun (and the bread *was* good) stuffed with pulled pork. I guess the fame has caused these folks to go seriously downhill, based on how much other Yelpers have raved about the truck.

How did I not discover this place sooner?! $6 for a beautifully seasoned BBQ pork sandwich as long as my arm. The bread is nothing to write home about, so I just ate the filling. Sweet, spicy, with cilantro, carrots, cabbage, and aioli that packs some heat. Will be back again.

Their food is fine. It is great the first few times, but it gets boring fast. They get the food out quickly though. It is good for what it is.

Tried Bon Me for the first time today in Harvard Yard after my boss was raving about it for weeks! I had the pulled pork rice bowl and a Thai Iced Tea. It was great! I didn't find it expensive as some other people did. Also, I am not sick as of yet either and I'm not too concerned either. The staff were very friendly and efficient. But the food! A perfect blend of sweet, salty, and tangy--soft rice, pork that falls apart at the push of my fork, and crunchy carrots and sprouts. Excellent. I will definitely try them again.

    (5)
  • Jamie B.

Extremely fast, efficient, and delicious! The entrees are quite reasonably priced - it's the sides that are pricey. I got my order in just a few minutes. I suggest that you order to go when you get a sandwich even if you are staying - you don't get any plates or extra wrappings to catch all the crumbs. The tea eggs are delicious and perfectly boiled, but I felt silly paying $2.50 for basically a single egg with seasoning. Will return.

The food is pretty fresh and the deviled eggs just ROCK, but its a shame they don't have pho (noodle soup) for part of the year.

Never heard of this place (or even the food trucks) until I stopped by on my way to the local wine bar. Living in Chinatown, I'm surrounded by plenty of Vietnamese sandwich shops, so I was a little bit skeptical at first to see if these chains could compete. Well, I was glad I checked it out. I tried the soba noodle dish with spicy chicken in hot peanut sauce and was very happy with the quality of the service and the speed in which the bowl of super fresh, healthy noodles were brought out. In terms of authenticity, it's certainly not that authentic, but it was really sumptuous and refreshing. The chicken was extremely tender, well flavored and matched well with the peanut sauce. Food: 4 stars Price: 4 stars Decor: 3 stars

Went tonight and love the food. They messed up on an order, took longer than they should have, and gave me a free sub. Now that is how you take care of problem.

Enjoyed the spicy tofu sandwich with vegetarian pâté. Definitely had a little kick to it, just the right amount for my taste. Sriracha available for extra spiciness. Good sized sandwich. Also had the Thai iced tea. I'd probably stick with one of the lemon/limeades next time - been to the truck before and preferred that drink. Came at a lunchtime rush when the line was out the door, but it moved very quickly and my order was done within less than a minute of reaching the end of the line (order and pay and move down to the pickup area).

  • Liz W.

I have never had a bahn mi sandwich in my life so I can't vouch for the authenticity, but this was absolutely one of the best sandwiches I have had at a non-veg place. If there are pickled vegetables involved, it's pretty much a guaranteed win in my mind but when I asked for the tofu sandwich with no mayo or pate, the guy taking our order asked if I wanted the vegan walnut pate instead. Vegan walnut pate? Hell yes! I had them add some spicy peanut dressing as well, to make up for the lack of mayo. The tofu was perfectly seasoned and cooked and for $6 I got a pretty big sandwich that I could only finish half of. I am already looking forward to lunchtime tomorrow for the leftovers! I am psyched that this place is so close to my boyfriends apartment. We definitely just found our new "go to" place for a quick, cheap, and delicious lunch or dinner. If we weren't planning on heading home to drink beer with our sandwiches, I would have definitely gotten the basil limeade or ginger lemonade. I'm really looking forward to trying them both. If they were open on Sundays, I am sure they would do great, especially with the wait at Friendly Toast always being so long on the weekends! As much as I love FT, I would easily go to Bon Me instead of waiting 45 minutes for a $12 tofu scramble.

I have to give credit where credit is due... I got the pulled pork sandwich and it is delicious. Since my last review it appears they improved the quality of their pork. Though unfortunately the bread is still on the stale side.

I have been to the food truck many times and now once at the restaurant. Overall the food is tasty, fresh and very appealing. For a good lunch or light, quick dinner it is a great option. The ingredients are flavorful and the textures are great. The restaurant is very small and on a cold night, the cold air comes right in from the door. It is good for a quick bite before a movie, but like a high end "fast food" environment. The food truck is one of my favorites and provides a great, nourishing and tasty lunch option.

Bon me food truck is the reason I wake up in the morning and go to work on Thursday so I can get my brown rice bowl with some sort of chicken concoction. I don't know what they put in their sauces and seasoning, but its out of this world. The fresh tangy/sweet carrot salad thing, cilantro leaves, and lettuce make it really balanced in terms of nutrition, texture, and flavor.

  • Jared S.

I've been twice, and both times I was disappointed. In theory everything sounds amazing, but was poorly executed. Bahn mi sandwich with miso braised pork was very bland. Any sort of miso flavor was non-existent. Chinese pork noodle bowl was extremely salty, so much that I couldn't eat the meat. There was almost no Spicy Peanut sauce to speak of. Like I said, in theory, everything could have been amazing, and maybe I just got unlucky, either way the food was pretty bad.

Buckle up, America. Bon Me isn't pulling any punches. These sons of bitches explore the finer points of fusion kitchen with a vigor that seemingly knows few boundaries. I don't typically go to the same restaurant more than twice a week (even for a great sandwich), but for almost 6 months straight I made Bon Me my second home. The veggie sandwich with walnut pate is what life is all about. Drizzle some Sriracha on that thing and go to town. Frankly the other menu options pale in comparison, but if you appreciate a good sandwich, check this place out. I'm not even a vegan or vegetarian, but this sandwich friggin' rules. If you try and don't like it, message me on here and I'll pay you or something.

I live in the Kendall area and while the foodie in me feels a certain amount of pride with all the recent openings of so many great restaurants, I feel like Bon Me is a godsend in that it offers very good take-out style food and instantly makes the area more diverse. Everything about the place is minimal, from the color scheme to the layout and menu, but the food is what stands out. Food truck fare that's healthy, delicious and cheap. It's almost too good to be true. I've always wanted to like Clover more than I do, but the food always seemed only servicable and never jumped out to me in flavor. Bon me, however, I could make a regular stop; the balance of flavors and textures is subtle but rewarding. So far I've liked everything I've tried, however, one thing of note is that the "deviled tea egg" isn't really a "deviled" egg, or at least not in the sense that I'm familiar with. It's really just a hard boiled egg with special topping.

Not your typical bánh mì. Good flavors and simple menu selection process. Not as cheap as your traditional bánh mì but very good pricing for the Kendell Sq area.

This was the first food truck that I ever had and the standard to which I hold all other food truck experiences. I will admit prior to this, I had never had a traditional banh mi so I have nothing to compare it to but ... I thought it was wonderful. We had the miso braised pulled pork. I love how all the veggies -- pickled carrots, daikon, mayo, cucumbers, cilantro, onions -- and the meat with the fresh bread worked amazingly well together. It was an explosion of flavors that I had never had before and really want to experience again. My daughter is now hooked on the truck and her drug of choice is the rice bowl ... just the basic rice bowl with nothing else. She loves the veggies -- greens, bean sprouts, shredded carrots and daikon with cilantro -- with their signature drizzle. I big shout out to their drinks. I have had the Ginger Lemonade. Word of warning that it is STRONG on the ginger so don't get it thinking it will be subtle. My daughter gets the Thai Iced Tea. She can never finish it so I score and get to finish it. I do not like my iced tea sweetened but I deal with it when having this one (Black tea with spices with a layer of half & half). Definitely have one of the drinks ... next on my taste test will be the basil limeade.

The sandwiches (not...actually banh mi, but inspired) were quite good. The crust is crunchy but still soft. However, the ratio of filling to bread skews heavily towards bread, which I do occasionally like, especially when the bread is so good. The rice bowl is a pretty large amount of food, definitely sufficient for a meal, but the rice isn't amazing. In both cases, the meat was juicy and flavorful -- the spice rubbed chicken and the chinese bbq pork were both quite good. The price is reasonable -- under 9$. I also had the viet iced coffee, which was pretty good; I'd get it again. Edited to add: I tried their bubble tea and was VERY disappointed. The price is on the high side for bubble tea (4$+tax), and the bubbles frankly were terrible. Too hard on the inside and very inconsistent, with some bubbles being okay and some being genuinely awful. The tea itself was very good, though a bit sweet. I'd get the tea again, but sans bubbles.

I have to say that, overall, I find vietnamese food quite dull. That being said, Ive kept rying because i was sure eventually id find something I like. I was wrong. I had the fried green beans which was cold and didnt taste like much other than the fried, also cold, garlic on top. I also had the veggie udon noodles which had a curry sauce on them which was quite good. Except the noodles were overcooked, the poached egg on top just made it messy, and the beans were just a hard texture on top. Service should have better explained how things worked because we didnt see the FREE popcotn till the end which WAS delicious. I only want Thai chili popcorn for the rest of my popcorn eating days. Lighting and decor was cool.

We enjoyed our food (chicken and pork banh mi, soba salad with chicken, ginger lemonade, bubble tea). The flavors were excellent and the quantities substantial (especially at $11 per head!). I do have some unsolicited but hopefully helpful advice: it would be nice if the tables and floor were not littered with the detritus of past meals. I didn't see anyone cleaning up (we wiped out own tables down). I suspect the problem would at least partly be resolved if those eating on were provided either a box or a plate or a tray so that spillage could be contained. This would be a solid 4 stars if this problem were taken care of. As of now it's really 3.5. I've rounded down but would be happy to revise if this issue were addressed.

Super fast, pretty cheap, and super tasty. I'm surprised at how good food in Boston is. This is the exact type of Asian fusion I'd want. Ordered the rice bowl with brown rice and miso-braised pork. The portion was pretty generous for $6.50 and it was super tasty. Good ratio of rice, veggies, and meat. Also tried their ginger lemonade, which was a refreshing and super gingery. I can see myself drinking a lot of this on a summer day. Please bring your shop to Minneapolis!

Pretty decent take of bahn mi. Gotta get there early if you want to try their special fillings (they usually sell out by 1 or 2). Got the chicken which was nicely marinated and the bread was crusty yet soft and pillowy on the inside and the pickled vegetables gave just the right crunch factor. Then with some sriracha (sad that I'm Asian and have no idea how to spell this) sauce to take it to the next level. Excited to try out their other meats!

I've been to both the food truck (which is parked for lunch most days in the Harvard Square Science Center plaza) and the brick and mortar place in Kendall (corrected - open for lunch and dinner!). Bon Me is very very good. The food the sell is fresh and very delicious. You can tell they're quite popular from how ubiquitous their cardboard food boxes have become on campus. I've had both their sandwich and their noodle salad and would definitely recommend both. I think the soba is a lot better than the rice noodle salad, but both come with generous heaps of veggies, noodles, and whatever meat/tofu you decided to get. For the salads, they have three dressings. The Vietnamese vinaigrette is quite reminiscent of Vietnamese fish sauce, and even gives off that faint, sweet-stinky pungent smell. The peanut dressing is quite spicy. The toasted sesame is probably my favourite, although fair warning it's quite salty. T.ey have a fourth one - miso lime - that I have to go try now! The sandwich is pretty big, and comes heaped with pickled veggies and meat - they even get the fish sauce and pate in right. When I get it, the bread is usually kind of stale but not in a bad way. I feel a little torn about prices - in terms of Harvard Square and the general area (as well as the huge amount of food you're getting) Bon Me is a very good deal. However, I could go to Chinatown to get a better bahn mi for half the price. The meat and tofu options are all quite good - I think their miso pulled pork is very popular, but I personally find it way to salty and very very soggy - it'll make your sandwich very soggy, and the mountain of slop is a lot to get through if your order it on their noodle salad. I would say that that BBQ pork is my favourite. Bon Me isn't very authentic if you're looking for real, authentic Vietnamese food, but overall, it's delicious and pretty affordable. If you're ever close to Kendall or spot the truck it's absolutely worth a try.

Small place, but who cares. Sandwiches are very good. Basil lemonade was also good. I will have to try the noodles next time. It's open on sunday, so don't know why yelp has it listed as closed.

I really love the food at Bon Me. The sandwich, the rice bowl, and the noodle bowl are all tops. If miso-braised pulled pork is available as a protein option, I recommend you choose that one. It's great to have the reliability of a brick-and-mortar location (always where you left it!), but I don't necessarily like sitting in here. It has an industrial feel, can be noisy, and gets cold from so many people coming in and out. In the warm months, it's great to sit in the courtyard and munch. Another plus: Even though the line can get long, the Bon Me crew keeps things moving.

Thier food is cleanly presented, but other than that there isn't anything too amazing or "must have". I will come here or their food truck locations if there isn't any other solid Vietnamese place nearby. It's hard for me to determine if it's worth the price or not, mostly because you can just get more out of your dollar in comparable places, but is cheap compared to, a sit-down restaurant for example. If you are trying to introduce your friends who are new to SE Asian food, Id recommend here for it's presentation and consistency in quality. Skip the salad, it's pretty lackluster, and just go for the Banh Mi! I made that mistake just last week.

The space was oppressively cold and dirty. It was hard to hear over the AC (in winter) and music. The tofu sandwhich was almost really good but wasn't good at all. It would have been really good if: -- 1/2 as much tofu -- 2x carrots -- 4x cilantro -- some jalapeños The basil limeade was too sweet and didn't taste like line.

Either I have a weak stomach or this place needs a daily health inspection. Bon Me is a very convenient, delicious and affordable lunch spot near my office. The food is consistently tasty (especially the soba noodle salads) but smells like broth made from crotch sweat. The entire office floor reeks of sour trash can drippings when someone opens a container of Bon Me. I was always willing to ignore the less than appetizing smell until this place clawed out my insides three times in a row. The first time I wasn't sure it was Bon Me. Maybe I had a bad day. The second time I was pretty sure it was Bon Me and did not return for over a month. Reluctantly I returned for a third time to give this place one more chance. This was a mistake. Around 8 PM dark ominous clouds rolled over the horizon. Birds stopped singing. Children began to cry. The toilet winced in pain as I stumbled into the bathroom tearing off my pants, Maybe I'm just unlucky, but I doubt it. I've heard similar complaints from reliable sources. I recommend this place to anyone who is constipated. Problem solved.

Just got the Rice Bowl with Spice Rubbed Chicken from the truck outside of MGH. Had I known that the chicken would look this bad, I wouldn't have ordered it. Looking at this chicken makes me want to be a vegetarian. Mostly dark meat, some white, some pink... Chunks of fat, veins, etc. No thank you! After spending $6.50, I only ate the rice and 4 pieces of lettuce. I don't think I'll be trying anything else on their menu.

    (2)
  • Sarah J.

Fast, cheap, good. I usually get the brown rice bowl with spice-rubbed chicken and a ginger lemonade. It usually lasts for 2 lunchtimes (and keeps well in the work fridge). There's plenty of Rooster sauce and free water on tap for those of us who delight in being burned and hydrated all at once. Crowded as H-E-double hockey sticks at lunch, but the line moves quickly. Dining in is an...intimate experience, however, there's plenty of space to pop a squat outside and feel the wind in your hair.

I keep coming back here although i already brought my own lunch sometimes. There is usually a long line during lunch time but it moves quickly. It takes me 5min most starting at the back of the line to getting my food. I have been getting the rice bowl and it comes with so much stuff, pickled salad, some cilantro, shallots, scallions. They put some yummy sauce with the rice so it doesn't taste plain. The miso braised pulled pork is good, spiced chicken is alright. I still haven't been able to get the lemongrass chicken and i'm so curious to try it. Bubble tea is alright. I'm really impressed with the quality of the service, food, and the price! It's good if you want to get yummy, quick yet filling lunch.

  • Hammy E.

I really like Bon Me. The restaurant I think is better than the truck because there are usually more meat options at the restaurant. I typically get a chicken rice bowl or a chicken noodle bowl. Both are delicious, filling, and a good value.

  • Annabel T.

Came by at 3ish for a late lunch. I got the soba noodle salad with tofu and spicy peanut dressing. It was pretty good taste wise, but I was disappointed at the portion size. For $7.49 I expected something more substantial than what I had received. Not sure if I will be coming back...certainly not if I was quite hungry.

  • Rena M.

I was skeptical to try this place at first because I had never had a Vietnamese sandwich, but now I find myself craving Bon Me all the time! I was pleasantly surprised with how good the food is. Pulled Pork sandwich is one of the best I've ever had, and the lemongrass chicken sandwich was good too. They also have a basil lemonade which is absolutely amazing and great to pair with any sandwich or noodle bowl. On the weekends, they don't always have their full menu, so the options are more limited, but I am still usually able to find something that I like. Perfect little lunch spot for anyone in the Kendall or Lechmere area.

I can't get enough Bon Me. The sandwiches are some of the best I've had yet in Boston. The bread is crispy, warm, and delicious. The meat (I always get the spice-rubbed chicken) is tender and well seasoned. Unlike many places, the meat is not too greasy or over powering. The rest of the filling is well proportioned. My only wish is that there was, perhaps more variety in the vegetables they put in, but I may just be eating them too fast to notice. The last time I visited I also got the soba noodles with chicken and miso lime dressing. They were excellent, if perhaps a bit too garnished with bean sprouts. Lastly, the service was very friendly and fast (both at the restaurant, with very few other customers, and at the food truck, with many), and the restaurant was clean and inviting. Would definitely go again (and again and again...)!

Great vegan options. Fast service, simple, clean inviting dining area, eco-friendly packaging and refuse/ recycle options. Had the paprika tofu rice bowl, large enough portion to take home for dinner and it was yummy with sprouts, salad and brown rice. Good for a healthy lunch to dine in or take out.

I come here regularly for lunch mostly because it's fast. The food is decent, but nothing to rave about. I've had the vietnamese sandwich, the rice dish (brown or white), and the noodle dish (soba or rice). I usually get brown rice for the rice dish and the soba noodles for the noodle dish. I did not like the chinese pork as I found it to be too salty, but the tofu is always a good choice. I tried their vietnamese coffee (in general, I'm a huge fan of this), but was really disappointed - it tasted like burnt beans and water. Overall, good for a quick lunch.

I took the chance to visit the bon me restaurant since I've been a fan of the truck and wanted to see how they transitioned to a brick and mortar place. I have to say my friend and I were a little disappointed. For $10, the noodle soup we had were not worth it My bbq pork udon miso soup was oily and salty without being flavorful. If they were going for a light fragrant taste then they should have made the broth cleaner and less salty. The bbq pork overwhelmed the dish and the broth and noodles couldn't hold up to it. The udon noodles were cooked somewhat Al dente, but was very dense. It did not have the snappy fluff I've come to expect of good udon. The chicken lettuce wraps were delicous. Grilled chicken thigh cuts with a sweet tangy sauce over a lettuce wrap is solid. My friend's coconut noodle soup woth meatballs and rice noodles has similar problems of an oily underpowering broth. His main complaint was simply that the rice cakes that came with the dish was almost inedible. Overall the restaurant was a disappointment, but I will still be going to the food truck for well-priced bon me sanwiches.

The sandwiches are very tasty, although the meat can be a little too salty. A nice place to get a quick meal though and I'd definitely make this a regular place to eat at.

  • Joel M.

Good god the Asian BBQ is so tasty, and the thai basil limeade is a perfect match to it. I basically end up craving the BBQ sandwich and feeding the urge once a month or so. -1 star because it's never all that fast to get your food and the restaurant layout is strange. I normally end up awkwardly moving around people, giving up on a table and sitting on a bench outside. All in all it's better as a take-out spot than a place you'd actually eat in.

    (4)
  • Allison R.

Mehrr. I ate at the restaurant, not a truck. The rosemary chicken wrap I got was yummy, but felt overpriced ($7 and didn't come with anything). The food tasted very fresh, but I would have liked a side, and there wasn't really that option on their simple menu of sandwiches, noodle boxes, and sweet drinks. I felt like the staff was a bit intense, rushing people through the transaction (not offering a receipt automatically for a CC transaction) and calling out numbers repeatedly when someone didn't grab their order within 10 seconds.

I was hoping this would be as great as the authentic Bahn Mi sandwiches. It came close, but the meat was dry and not as soft as the ones you get in China town. But, i'm lazy to go all the way to China town for authentica bahn Mi, So i'll satisfy myself with close-enough "bon me"

After reading about the hype that is Bon Me, I decided to finally give them a try. I've never been to their food truck but their brick and mortar store is located right behind my office building so it's an easy walk for a quick lunch. My good friend who inspired me to start this food blog also works for them so it was on my to-do list of places to try. Their food is inspired by the classic Vietnamese banh mi sandwich but they take a non-traditional approach to their dishes which is refreshing every once in awhile. I started off with their classic bahn mi sandwich with a hearty portion of their Chinese BBQ pork. This little guy included pickled carrots and daikon, spicy mayo, cucumbers, red onion, and cilantro all on a toasted baguette. The BBQ pork reminded me of the traditional roasted pork I used to eat as a kid. I would get this one again for sure. I also gave their Soba Noodle Salad with spicy peanut dressing a try. I added the miso pork again because it was my favorite. This is essentially the same thing as their bahn mi sandwich except you get noodles instead of a baguette. However, this was surprisingly my favorite dish out of all the things that I've ordered here. I just wish there was more of it! It is a little pricey but it's definitely worth a try. Check out my blog (complete with pictures and childish humor) for the full review! thesuchef.org/2014/03/16…

Love how fast and tasty their food is. For first-timers, I'd suggest a Chicken or BBQ Pork sandwich, but for the health conscious I think the best combo is the Brown Rice Bowl with Tofu, Jalapenos, and Asian Greens. Also, remember to get the LevelUp app on your phone for fast checkout. Also, it's great they list what's gluten free for my wife with celiac's diease.

This is my favorite of the lunch options within a couple blocks of my workplace. I've only had noodle bowls, but they are pretty delicious. The pork is very meaty tasting, which is great if you're into that sort of thing.

When I came here, they were serving a reduced, "experimental" menu on the weekends. I had the Ho Fun, which used the Chinese Ho Fun noodles in what seemed like a chicken broth with a slight chili taste. There was also some finely crushed peanuts that infused the broth with a peanut taste. The pepper-seasoned meatballs were like sponges for the broth. I found it all a bit too fusion and experimental. Usually, when I go for Vietnamese food, I'm going for the traditionals -- pho, bun bo hue, bun thit nuong, or maybe a rice dish.

I thought Boston was supposed to have cool weather? How can a place that got THAT much snow this past winter remind me of Charlotte? So you get the point, it was a hot day. (Like 94ish?) And we were being all touristy and doing the freedom trail, and the Lady points out an indoor place to check out, and there in all its Viet-American-fast-food glory is Bon Me. Now, I can only speak to their Basil Limeade (which was stellar), but this place seemed like it was really quality stuff. This is what "fast-food" should be, and I'm so glad we stopped in! I wish we had that limeade here in Charlotte for a hot day... I can only dream.

    (4)
  • Alan G.

Came here with my sister for lunch around noon on Wednesday. The pros and cons from my previous review are still true (actually all the indoor seating was open, but the weather was so great, no one wanted to sit indoors!), but now they have bubble tea! I was skeptical at first that it would be anything special, but it was actually really good! They describe it as "black tea, bubbles, and a splash of half and half" so I was concerned that it wouldn't be very milky, but it actually came out tasting basically like milk tea, perhaps even moreso than at other places. The tapioca bubbles were really soft and chewy.

So far I've tried their rice bowl and their sandwich for lunch. Personally I preferred the rice bowl (the sandwich got pretty messy - everything kept falling out), but both were delicious. It's reasonably cheap, very fresh, and VERY efficient. Seriously, even if the line is out the door I'd still recommend waiting; you'll have your food in like 15 min regardless.

I need to ask you a question: Why are you reading this review instead of eating Bon Me's miso pulled pork in a soba noodle bowl with toasted sesame drizzle? It's a valid inquiry, as universal percentages place the lack the of miso-braised swine in your hungry little hands as a strong probability. Which is a shame, because it should be. I've praised the laurels of Bon Me trucks, all their glorious proteins, tea smoked eggs, spicy ginger lemonades and other regulars on the menus from wheels to walls. The flagship brick & mortar location, however, offers three bonuses (bonuss? bonii?): seating, speed and specials! The third being a day-to-dusk menu, served only during weeknights and all day Saturday. For this spring, we're talking cilantro pesto noodle salad, bubble tea, and - brace yourselves, soup fans - house made ramen. Bon Me is a well-oiled machine, putting you face-deep in fresh food before the three minute mark post-ordering. I always clean my plate (and by plate, I mean compostable cardboard box), and it's still one of the few fast casual restaurants that has me struck with weekly cravings.

Great place. Great food. I really enjoyed my roasted soy and paprika Tofu sandwich. Only wish is that the gluten free stuff would be prepared without cross contamination so my roommate could eat with me!

Average Vietnamese food. First I tried the noodle bowl, portion size is big but flavor isn't anything unique. Also tried the ramen..which was my least favorite as the noodles seemed like instant noodles to me rather than fresh noodles, broth was pretty dense and pasty like. Favorite thing here is the banh no sandwich with pork. This was flavorful and delicious! Would come back only for the sandwich.

Love Bon Me. Wish I worked in the Financial District to relish in Bon Me yummies like every day. On days that I would get off work early, I'd head to Boston, and hit up the food trucks in Dewey Square. There would be Mei Mei, Cookie Monstah, Clover and almost always, Bon Me. I've been here twice now. The first time, I tried the Chinese BBQ pork with rice and salad. It was good, but a little on the salty side. The second time, I tried the ginger chicken with rice and salad. This was super light and tasty, and I loved it. Be back to try more soon :)

Very good Asian fusion Vietnamese place. Very small but it is a fast food sort of joint. Not much ambiance. Get your food and sit an eat or go outside. My noodle salad with shredded pork was very tasty. I had the spicy peanut dressing and I recommend it if you like spicy food. It was delicious. I've only been here once, and will go there again. Decent price "for Boston."

Delicious healthy lunch option is found! Had their noodle salad bowl. Very good. Not overly heavy with dressing but tasty at the same time. Hard to come by that combo. Their sandwiches are so so. Chinatown has better. But their variety of salad rice noodle bowls are golden. Loved it. Pulled pork was delicious and tender too. good addition to the Kendall area.

I have had Banh Mi (bahn, james bahn) samiches but this place rocks! Think great Vietnamese food but high quality ingredients. Add some seriously consistent preparation, good price and you have a winner - The combination of the spicy sauce, pork, cilantro and veggies will haunt you. Causing you to drive out of your way to find one of their food trucks that appear and disappear like worm holes. (yes there is a website to help with their schedules) We get them for the office whenever we get the chance - we are so hooked that we even looked into what it would take to try and get a truck here - Alas we are too small pull the goodness truck away from the throngs of paying customers in Boston. :( Stay hungry my friends

This place is awesome for lunch. I've never not had a great meal here-either in Harvard Sq or at the SOWA market. Their Bon Me sandwiches are better than the "real thing" (I've been to Southeast Asia and these guys know how to improve on street food). I like their pulled pork Bon Me (forgetting the actual title here but seriously go for it). I don't always stop here for lunch but whenever it's hot out and I need to freshen up I grab a lemonade here. My favorite is the basil lemonade but the ginger one is yummy too! They're a bit pricey but you get your money's worth!

  • Noah L.

Bon Me is the lesser equivalent to a Vietnamese version of Chipotle. If you've found your palate craving the fresh flavors of Vietnamese cuisine (...cilantro, mint, basil, and dichon...) you will be dissapointed by Bon Me. All though preparation time was unbelieveably fast, it came at the expense of ingredient quality. The BBQ pork tasted like it had been cooked the night before and reheated in a microwave, the rice tasted chewey from dehydration, and the leafy garnish left much to be desired. The drinks were the only redeeming quality of the meal. Moral: Only go to Bon Me if you are desparate for time, and looking for something that will leave you feeling slightly less dissapointee than the Wendy's dollar menu.

I have visited the food truck in Harvard Square a few times now. The pulled pork sandwich is just darn good. The pork is seasoned and tender and the condiments they put on the sandwich are excellent. The bread is fresh. The drinks I've had are not so good. The Thai Iced Coffee tastes like watered down cinnamon tea. The Vietnamese Coffee is ok but the proportions are off leaving it end product lack luster. So, get the sandwiches and stick with water.

Got some takeout here the other night and liked it so much I got it again a few days later. So I've tried two dishes now and my favorite is Chinese BBQ Pork with brown rice. The pork is so flavorful and tender and the carrot/diakon salad plus cilantro add a crisp bright flavor to the dish. The next night I tried the chicken and it was good, but not as good as the pork. I think this is a great place for fast, healthy food.

I started out loving the food truck in Harvard Square - significantly better than any HUDS food or Greenhouse cafe or anything else on Harvard campus! The vegetarian option (a miso paprika tofu, I believe) is very good - the tofu is actually flavorful. They cater to all sorts of food restrictions (I'm vegetarian and don't eat eggs). The banh mi is great at $6 or so - picked veggies, and they gladly sub out the mayo / pate. The soba is much more flavorful and goes better with the tofu than the rice noodles, in my opinion. Ask for jalapenos with everything! I'm not as big of a fan anymore - I went a week ago to the brick and mortar location and the soba tasted kind of weak / tired. Much more veg-friendly than a lot of other options, though. If I could do 3.5 stars, I would.

Much Bon. Very Me. The food is a great quick lunch spot in the area. Sandwiches are beautiful. Salads are wonderful & include all the noodles you'd want from here. I found the pulled pork to be flavorful as can be, though I still rocked some of the sweet and spicey sauces. Keep it in mind for a lunch run.

Bon me is a great place for lunch or a quick dinner! The food is delicious and the service is very speedy. The best meat is probably the pulled pork though you can't really go wrong with anything you pick.
