There are a shortage of good Korean restaurants in the Boston/Greater Boston area. I've mentioned it in other reviews but you'd have to go to NYC or LA for anything decent. Sad since I don't live in those cities. When I am in the mood for Korean, I always try to find a place in the burbs to avoid a trip down to Allston. Because I like the convenience of the location, I've given New Jang Su many chances to prove me wrong. But I just can't give these guys a good review. From the start, the decor made me want to gag a little (not a good reaction before a meal). There are visible patches of grease on the walls where most of the BBQ-ing takes place and it's just downright filthy in there. But as long as the food is good, I can overlook a lot of things...even horribly dated decor and mediocre service. Unfortunately, the food was nothing to write home about. Their lunch BiBimBap is okay. Their seafood Udon is MSG-city. My husband ordered the Yukejang. The most basic of ingredients that make up that classic spicy soup dish is the dakmyun ("glass noodles"), shredded beef and scallions. My poor husband was rooting around his soup looking for something to eat. There was a whole lotta nothing in that soup! It was just fiery red, oily and tasted bad...and the real kicker? The soup wasn't even hot! That is completely unacceptable. The banchan (side dishes) served at lunch are sad. Not only do they never change it up but the portions are tiny (like 3 chopsticks worth). You'd have to ask for more if you enjoy kimchi with your meal. And the service...it wavered between being attentive, rushed and a little curt. I can't say this is the worst Korean restaurant I've been to. It's just not good. If you're jonesing Korean food in this area...just go to H Mart.

I stopped here after I went to the dentist's office in Burlington for lunch. The ladies were very friendly and nice. I ordered a kimchee jigae and dolsot beef bim bimbop all for myself. The jigae was spicy and boiling hot but not super delicious. The bim bimbop was pretty big and good as far as that dish goes. It was almost $30 for lunch with tip though. I would like to come back to try the Korean BBQ if I am in the area and have someone else with me.

I'm from MD and I was craving Korean BBQ while I was up here so we got on Yelp and found this place. I thought they were going to bring out the spicy tofu seafood soup and the egg thing in a bowl, like they do back home but I was sadly mistaken. All we got was the kimchi, bean paste, lettuce and some other items I couldn't identify. The restaurant itself is small but has a very friendly staff. The one perk to this restaurant is that you don't leave smelling like a whole entree of food, but you do have a slight aroma of the food that was cooking at your table. We ended up ordering the spicy pork belly, bulgogi and kalbi. The pork belly looked a little unappetizing because it was red and oily while it was cooking. It turned out to not be spicy but had a little kick to it. The bulgogi and kalbi were ok, I felt the portions could have been a lot bigger for the price we paid.

I've been here only twice, and both times it happened to be for a very early dinner - like 4-5 PM-ish - and neither time did I order the BBQ, so my experience is . . . unique. I literally cannot imagine lines or crowds here; for us it was pleasant and even cozy to sit in an empty restaurant, a few tables over from the women who work there, who were busy (both times) prepping stuff, and watching football on the big flat screen TV, and cheering for BU while Christmas music played in the background (well, that was only once) . It was very home-for-the-holidays, a mood that goes well with a nice, spicy, steamy bowl of something. Like soup. The soups are above-average, and there's a very wide selection of them, and they are not pricey. The bi bim bap, though, is really excellent. Bursting with veggies and flavor and crusty where it should be and soft and comforting where it should be and all around satisfying. The banchan are delightful, and plentiful and the tea is very good too. I suspect there are better Korean restaurants in Boston, and I'm likely to eat at them sooner or later, since this place is no longer all that convenient for me. But I'll think back on those charming afternoons at New Jang Su rather fondly and I'll resent paying more for less, if that's how happens.

Do you like being served by controlling obnoxious women who thinks they know how to cook for you (at a Korean BBQ place) and order for your party, but aren't intelligent enough to cut and serve a birthday cake? Well that was exactly my last experience. I've visited this restaurant a couple of times and I really cannot tolerate how the waitresses there are control freaks. With service a side, I also felt that the food is mediocre (and not good enough to justify the poor experience). I feel that the manager skimps out on the meat and serves more scallions and onions (cheaper by the dozen) then kalbi, squid and pork belly. They also do not have a liquor license. I do not recommend this place.

Everything about this place is fantastic! The decor is nothing special, a few pan Asian touches are purely token. The food is another story, the meals are as authentic as possible, utilizing as many genuine ingredients and spices as possible. Everything is first rate, no wilted lettuce or brown radishes every side dish is fresh daily. The entrees are outstanding, flavorful, and aromatic, there's no blurring of tastes or smells. The Bip Bim Bap is amazing, the mix of flavors, textures, and temperatures are all complimented by fresh herbs for a unique experience with a common meal.

New Jang Su is probably my favorite restaurant for Korean BBQ. You know it's good when it's in the outskirts of Boston, but there is still a wait for a table. The Pajeon is soft and fluffy. If you like it crispy, then you probably won't like it here. The Spicy Pork was okay, but I prefer the Kalbi, which is always delicious here. What else do I really need to say? I do wish that there were more banchan though. I've been spoiled by New York City and the variety they offer. My favorite is the Gyeran-jjim (steamed seasoned eggs), which nowhere in Boston seems to offer. Also, the place is a bit difficult to spot. It has this super inconspicuous sign, which is super easy to miss since your eyes automatically look to the Subway sign right next to it instead. So be careful when you're driving by. If you miss it, it's somewhat of a hassle to turn around again.

If you are looking for a suburban location for Korean barbecue, this place puts up a good fight. My sister and I choose to come here on a Friday night as an alternative to going into the city, and we weren't disappointed. The location requires a little scouting because it's hard to see off the main road (as said in other reviews it's located in a strip mall). Once inside, however, it offers a homey, no frills, atmosphere with a lot of families sharing a dinner there. After being seated we were given a pot of hot tea without having to ask, which is always perfect for fighting off New England winters. This evening we choose to have the BBQ, and we decided to have the short ribs and squid. The seasoning on beef was nice, but the squid won the evening. I would come back just to have this dish again. Our server was diligent and friendly, considering how busy she was, and after our meal we were given two slices of tasty orange. Yum! My only caution for this restaurant is they don't serve any alcohol, which was a little disappointing since I love to have a beer with BBQ.

This is the first time I had Korean restaurant food in America. We went on a Sunday at dinner time, as expected from an excellent and well-known restaurant, the place was packed. We (two people) waited for nearly an hour to be seated. It was a little hot sitting next to the grill in a crowded restaurant, and the waitresses looked like they had way too much to handle. One was actually running in the restaurant, was cute. :) We ordered beef and chicken, pre-marinated, for the BBQ/grill. Food wise, this place is great. The marinated beef/steak for the grills were very flavorful. The chicken, a little less impressive but still good. The grilling was very fast, within minutes we were eating our medium cooked meat. The portions, however, were pretty small. ~$16 for a plate of steak, supposedly for one person. But we had to order more than 3 plates to fill our stomach. Even so, after we left the place, I still didn't get the very full feeling I usually get from eating out. A little too busy, crowded, and noisy for my taste. But I still recommend it for the food. We may go back during a less busy hour and maybe the environment will be as pleasant as the food.

I am reviewing this place in the midst of my food coma from eating here. WOW. For an altogether really reasonable price I just stuffed myself silly with fresh and really fantastic Korean food. I have to say I didn't get the BBQ itself but the lunch dishes were fantastic. Soups, noodles, rice bowls... NOMS. I love hole-in-the-walls like this because they're not about decor or pretense, it's all about the food food food. I've had meals on par with what I got here in K-town in NYC. So, just goes to show you can eat at a local place and get a great meal.

Ordered the Kalbi, it was very tasty but chewy. Also ordered tebokki however you spell and the portions were so TINY. I swear there were a total of 20 rice cakes and it was not spicy AT ALL. The service was good though. I would come here again if I was around the area and craving KBBQ, or H-mart is another option.

had dinner there on a rainy Saturday a couple weeks ago, even though it was late, the place was packed and I had to wait for a table. Normally if the wait is more than a few minutes, I'd leave, but there was nothing else around there except a Subway and when you are in the mood for Kimchee, Subway just doesn't make it. The Banchan were OK, but kind of sparse. The Kalbi was good, but in spite of my protest... the server wouldn't trust me to cook my own. Must have looked like a tourist from Weston or something, even though I speak a bit of Korean and am familiar with the food and customs, I still felt a bit like an outsider. The only other negative comment I have is that by the time my food came, the place was emptying out a bit but the server still kept rushing me.... An OK place, but I think I'll head back to Brighton .......

New Jang Su is OK. Can't say it's great. The menu seems ok; there is a decent selection of dishes to choose from. I went with BBQ, bugogi and pork belly (mostly because my brother didn't want anything spicy) The bugogi was ok, the meat was thicker than most other places, which I liked. The pork belly was a little odd. On the menu, it said w/ special sauce and it wasn't marinated at all. Basically just frozen slices of unflavored bacon. They cooked it on the grill in this foil tray. I guess it was suppose to be like that, but I didn't particularly like it. The oil splattered a bit, which I didn't enjoy. I wouldn't order it again. The service felt a bit rushed. I could understand that they may have been a bit understaffed, but I would have rather grilled the meat myself instead of having someone rush over, flip and say a couple of hurried words. When I told the waitress that "WE would like to have ice water" she only brought 1 cup. It's a small thing, but it accentuate the lack of attention. The decor and location isn't the best. Inside, the walls next to me seem spotted with little food bits. Doesn't give you a feeling of cleanliness. Given all that.. overall the food wasn't terrible and this is the only Korean place I found in the area (without driving into Boston).

I went with my brother-in-law, who is half Korean, and his family and they were very impressed by the quality of the food. We had bulgogi, pork belly, and grilled chicken. I will say that the waitress initially came across as a bit curt and wanted to manage the grill herself, which I've never seen done before at a Korean BBQ place. I wonder if this is because she worried we may not get it right? In the end, I think she was trying to be helpful but I could see how other reviewers could take it as rude.

For quality an easy 4 for taste, but for the price of weekend BBQ lunch a 3. Just a bit too expensive. The lunch special prices during the week are very good-well below $10. To have the table BBQ you have to have at least 2 orders- which is at least $19 each. We were both full after the meal. Staff is nice and friendly. Meal comes with complimentary Roasted corn tea and for the sliced meats they had the miso-bean sauce and lettuce. It was our first time seeing and trying the sauce; tasty!! We'd go back- but maybe witha larger group to share.

I drove by this place for years and never went in. How stupid of me!! The decor is no-frills. Remember that bad paneling you had on your finished porch or basement? Paint over it and thats what you got here. This isn't fine dining...its more like a carpeted cafeteria. But honestly every korean restaurant I've been a repeat customer of has been like this. This is not a negative to me. Its your basic korean bbq...menu is pretty basic. Quality is on par with others in the area such as Chung Ki Wa in Medford however the staff here is absurdly friendly, nice and ever-present. The bulgoki grilled at the table was tasty. My companion got a delicious spicy pork and veggie dish that also cooked at the table. Here the staff seems to tend to your table's grill. I'm okay with this....even though I prefer korean places that leave the responsibility on you. The mandu's were deep fried which was weird for me (prefer steamed or pan fried) but tasty nonetheless. The banchan was not extensive but had the staples.... kimchi, soybean paste, cuke namul, muchae, those fish cake strips and one or two others. Bottom line its tasty, no-frills korean bbq. I will be back.

My good friend & her husband were visiting from Orlando. I am not too familiar with Korean food but, I do know that I like the BBQ. About 7 years ago, my husband & I ate @ a pretty popular Korean restaurant in Cambridge. It was definitely over-rated & the waitress didn't speak English. Anyway, a friend who loves food recommended New Jang Su BBQ Restaurant. We noticed that most of the customers were Korean which was a great sign!! :) Sorry, I don't know the name of some of the dishes. We ordered pork, chicken, & beef for the BBQ. It was nice that the wait staff actually came over to our table to BBQ the meat. I think they wanted to make sure the meat was thoroughly cooked. What I like most is wrapping the BBQ w/romaine lettuce. Of course, we also got the typical sides of pickled cucumber, tofu, tofu paste, bean sprouts, white radish, Kim chi, & bowls of white rice. We also ordered monk fish stew & jab chae (Korean clear noodles). The stew was a bit spicy but, not too spicy. Just enough to give it a kick. My friend raved over the noodles. She said it was much better than the Korean restaurant in her town. I thought the wait staff was nice & personable. We took pics & asked them to take them for us.The dining room was wide & roomy. The person that took my reservations said that they typically do not take reservations on a Friday night. Originally, the reservations were for 6:30. She said that should be fine & if there was a wait, it would only be about 10 minutes. My friends arrived about 6:50. My husband & I arrived about 7:30. I believe all the tables were full but, I did not see anyone waiting to be seated. I would of preferred the BBQ meat to be a bit sweeter. If possible, I would of given a 3 & 1/2 stars. Would I ever eat here again? Sure, I think it's certainly worth another try. Next time, I would love to try the bi bim bap (white rice, veggies, egg, etc in a pot). New Jang Su BBQ Restaurant is definitely worth it instead of driving into the city & struggling to find a parking space.

The other reviewers really hit the nail on the head. If you want an authentic, great-tasting Korean experience without the traffic of entering Allston, New Jang Su is where it is at. Parking lot is rarely full. The restaurant is busy from time to time but there has always been room to fit my parties of 6 to 8. The service doesn't do its food justice. The waitress will take your order but there is a minimum for almost every item so don't expect to spend $10...think $50. Once the uncooked meals (meat only) arrives at your table, you have to prepare it yourself. Sure, they will help you with the food but they never allow you to cook it to medium well or well. They get very antsy when the cooking utensils are in your hand. Every time I wanted to adjust the orient of my food, I felt like they were rushing me. For $25 or $30 we pay, let us relax and chow down. Lemme fry the delicious bakogi to my heart's content. Overall, the food is GREAT, probably one of the best-tasting Korean dining experience I've ever had (better than Korean Garden). However, the food is balanced out by the "eh" service and the length of food preparation. They need to study what the Allston Korean BBQ joints are doing to make their place a real destination to go to.

Best Korean BBQ I have had in Boston area. I recommend going with at least 2 other people in order to try out their food. Going with one other person will just be expensive and you may not get to try all kinds of food. I highly recommend their GALBI.. best I have had Get the Squid and Pork Belly ... Jap Chae Bi Bam Bap expect to pay around $25ish/person .. there is a minimum of 2 orders for using the grill... so going in a group will help with the cost... oh yes, there is plenty of parking, it is not a classy place but good enough to go in groups of people... casual setting.. it is not brand new inside, so don't expect much... if you don't know already, the food is brought out raw and cooked on your table and you eat it with a self made lettuce wrap. the restaurant will provide these side dishes that can go inside the lettuce wrap...

We love this Korean Restaurant. It's a little being in downtown Seoul in the mid 60's. We love the way we are greeted - in Korean. The waitresses are very friendly. It can be very busy at noon time, so they they really have to be on their toes. Our favorite dish is Bulgogi with all the extras. The flavor of the kimchi is just about right. We say "kam sam ni da" to the folks there.

Service was great but food was disappointing. We ordered Short Ribs and Sam Gyup Sal (sliced pork belly) for BBQ. The pork was being cooked for a long time over an aluminum foil sheet; the meat was hard and plain when it was done, and the short ribs was only slightly more tender. I wouldn't recommend this place for Korean BBQ lovers; there are way better Korean BBQ places around Boston with a similar price range.

Host was rude. I swear he has a staring problem n def can't do math! Stuck us all in a tiny ass table. I sat down for less than a min and left. Ill spend my money else where. I don't care how good the food is but if the service sucks I'm not giving them my business.

By far my favorite place for Korean BBQ. After eating at Koreana and Chung Ki Wah, they stand out as being consistent in terms of service and quality. I have yet to check out other places but so far this place hits the spot. Their kalbi is really good. I decided to try something different today, pork belly with their special sauce which is basically sesame oil. Not a fan of it. I like their spicy pork and chicken as well. My favorite dish there is the tuk bok gi. The sauce is spicy and tasty! The rice cake was cooked just right. Their scallion pancakes aren't so bad either. Service is always consistent and friendly. They usually cook for you but when they're busy you get to do it yourself. One negative is that they don't have a liquor license. Not a major factor for me but it could be for some folks who like to drink with their BBQ. As with all BBQ, don't go here before going out. You'll smell like BBQ.

New Jang Su- I want to kiss you on the mouth. The place looks scary from the outside. Man up and get in there- sit down and order the spicy rice cake apps. They were the kind of spicy you had to keep eating to quell the heat. Then we got the BBQ. Short ribs and sirloin. It was just delicious. The staff was great and friendly- attentive and open to giving you suggestions. I came hungry, left full. Will go back. A special warning....do not eat the spicy rice-cakes after midnight and then go to bed. Lit my chest on fire! And that's a big fire.......

I enjoyed my meal very much, save for the barbecued squid, which I found to be unpleasantly tough and chewy (honestly, this seems to be a pattern for the squid I've had lately regardless of how it's been cooked or where I've gotten it). The short ribs were tasty, with a slightly sweet marinade, and the seafood pancakes were a nice appetizer. I did find the service to rather abrupt -- the waitresses were pleasant, but they had a tendency to run (literally) around the restaurant, which adds a strangely frantic vibe to a dining experience that seems to be keyed on a slower pace due to the time requirements of grilling the meat.

New Jang su was my first Korean restaurant and is great for families or groups. The post-middle-aged owner is sweet and will show you how to eat bbq properly. She humored my parents enough to even write out the Chinese characters for Jang su (it's changshou, btw). There's no air conditioning, and the bathrooms aren't anything I'd take a picture of (the door to the women's bathroom may not have been able to lock), but it's comfortable and you're surrounded by other families. The barbeque is solid, especially the squid, though I feel like the meat quality may have gone down since the 90s. Legit Korean friends say that it's a bit too sweet though. The Bibimbap is good (can you really go wrong though?), naengmyun as well (don't think it came with pear but was sooo good with bbq), dukbokki alright (may be overcooked), and the japchae's also pretty okay. The seafood pancake is a family favorite, though I don't really have a good sense of what everything should properly be like. So, I'm pretty happy with the food but probably wouldn't come unless I was with a group.

I was curious about Koren food, mostly because I watch Food TV and they are always talking about Bi Bim Bop, or making it, and to me the combo is interesting looking, especially given the egg on top. Anyway, i did not have the Bi Bim Bop. I had the pork kimchi. It was delicious and the perfect spice. Now, two days later, the spice is rather intense, so make sure you eat it all in one sitting. The wait staff was amazing. They pointed out some popular items (that were not the most expensive, like at some restaurants) and they were very kind. I was hoping the lunch specials previous yelpers raved about would be available on the weekend. however they are not, in true restaurant form. So it's a little pricey for weekend lunch (my item was $15 and most on the menu were $12). I would go again, probably to try out the little grill table things. seems very fun and interactive.

Well my Dad was at a conference in Manchester and he wanted to have dinner with me, so I was looking for a decent place North of Boston. Based on the Yelp reviews and my love of Korean BBQ I chose New Jang Su BBQ. It was a solid meal, but I can't say that I was particularly wowed by the experience. The restaurant was nearly empty, but I wouldn't expect a large crowd on a Tuesday night in the 'burbs. This meant that the staff didn't have much to do. The service was very attentive, but I think they could have served us a little slower. It definitely felt a bit rushed. And the decor was a bit worn-out looking. We started out with the Shrimp Tempura, which was fine (except that it was molten lava hot and I burned my mouth). Then we had the Bul Go Ki (delicious!) and the Spicy Pork and Veggies (fantastic!). Overall good food and service. I just don't think I'd make a special trip out to Burlington to dine here.

Had dinner here for the first time, last night, with my wife and 14 yr old son who is a foodie as well. We have been looking for a great Korean restaurant ever since Seoul Kitchen in Brighton, Ma. disappeared. We started with the Sliced rice cakes in a hot chili sauce, which was in a spicy and tasty sauce except the rice cakes were small 3" long rice flour logs, boiled and pretty tastles. Great survival food but not very interesting. The chili sauce certainly helps to dress it up, but not enough to order it again. We then tried the Korean style pan cake which we thought was very good and not too greasy Good flavor and texture. We always try the Bibim Bap ( In a heated bowl, so it creates a yummy crust with the rice and keeps all the food hot) as the true measure of Korean comfort food. They did this pretty well but again we were not blown away by the dish. 7 out of 10 but I like finding the 9's and 10's that make eating a transcending experience between art, chef, culture and food. The assorted cold dishes of kimchi, cold stewed squash and bean sprouts were very good. The people who work there are very friendly, gracious and attentive. Pop music playing incessantly, which I find out of context and annoying. Large screen TV on- great for sports events but not for dinner. I would recommend just turning it off, as CNN/ news happens to grab the attention away from the food and dining experience. Alcohol is not served here so no cold beers to contrast the very hot Bibim Bap. I don't know if they allow you to BYOB, but I would check with the management. Maybe, we will come back to explore the other dishes, but not in a rush to do so.

Few years ago, i thought this was the best place ever for Korean BBQ. Oh boy I was wrong. All the marinated meats are drenched in sugar (i didn't know that back then because i was just fat and loved sugar...now i'm on a diet and I can tell how much sugar they put on the marination). I love their service but side dishes are so weak compared any Korean BBQ places in NYC and the price is way too high. All their soups/jjigaes have too much MSG and if you are really craving for some Korean BBQ, check out Korean King BBQ in Canton. I think they do a better job than this joint for sure.

I've been using yelp to search for restaurants to try/eat at for a long time now. However, I've never written a review before until today. My experience at New Jang Su was such a horrible one that I felt the need to go on here to write a review just to warn others of what they're getting into when they come here. If there is an option I wouldn't even give New Jang Su a single star. I'm from Cali and have been to many Korean restaurants before. This, however, was the worst experience I've had at a restaurant EVER. I had booked a reservation at New Jang Su for my graduation dinner from dental school last Sunday at 6:30pm for a party of 25 (mostly my older relatives i.e. my grandma, great aunts and uncles, parents, etc.) I have never been here before but when I walked in I was already put off by the dirty tables, wall paper, and decor. Casting that thought aside, I was hoping the food would be better than the look of the restaurant, but unfortunately, we didn't even get to it because of the horrendous customer service by the waitresses and even the owner himself. They gave us 5 tables with 5 individual grills on each. When we were seated, my family wanted me to do all the ordering since they're not too familiar with Korean BBQ. I talked with one of the waitresses and wanted to put in two orders of korean prime rib per table for grilling (10 order total at around $20 each) just to start off while I discussed with the rest of my party to see what entrees they wanted to get individually. The waitress kept arguing with me saying that won't be enough and that they are going to charge more for side dishes if we want more. First of all, I already told them multiple times that the ribs were just starters to get my guest started while I find out what entrees to get them. We did not intend to order that alone and just eat off of their sides dishes which is what it sounded like the waitress was implying. Second of all, I have never been to a Korean restaurant that charges extra for their side dishes! After multiple attempts to explain to the waitress, I even went to talk to the owner myself but he was even worse! He was very rude and said that we weren't ordering enough for the amount of people when I had already said that those were just for starters! I speak perfect English so I couldn't understand what the confusion was to them. At this point I was very upset with them and felt that they did not want our business at all. What was worse was that my guests were starting to get upset with how rude the staff at the restaurant were. The owner yelled in Korean while waving his hand as if to push us out. We were so fed up with how horrible the service at the restaurant was that we finally stood up and left. My boyfriend's brother left $20 on the table for the tap waters that came out which I didn't even think they deserve. We ended up going elsewhere for my graduation dinner. My family and I are very upset with New Jang Su and how they treat their customers. What initially was suppose to be a happy celebration of my special day was ruined thanks to the people at New Jang Su. Please save yourself the trouble and avoid New Jang Su at all cost.

Delicious takeout....I could have had a double order.....it was a little light on the actual meat for $12/$13 per order. I'll dine in at some point and try the short ribs. It was a nice touch to find 3 separate sides of pickled veggies. I didn't have to cook and it was delicious!

This was my first experience with Korean BBQ. Sadly I was disappointed. It was a Thursday night at 7, not another soul was in the place besides the employees. The inside seemed drab and melancholy. So much for atmosphere. Appetizers - Started with shrimp tempura and chicken tempura. The shrimp was fantastic, unfortunately the chicken was just short of popcorn chicken from the frozen food section of a grocery store. Main Courses: went BBQ and tried a little bit of everything Squid - eh Chicken - eh Prime rib - eh It was almost inconvenient to have them cook it for you. They stand over the table and reach into the middle to perform the cooking. Which meant that the two people on the ends close to the cook couldnt lean over their own plates and eat. Bad design I guess. Maybe there should be U-shaped tables and the cook and grill are in the middle? Also think almost $20 a plates is steep

A ha, I rarely gave 5 stars out and even considering 35 mins driving !!!THE PLACE'S WORTH 5 STARS!! The Kalbi here is unbeatable, tender and juicy. I love it. The Bulkoki and spicy pork are also great! Sometimes the place was too crowded but it couldn't help right?

This place came highly recommended and I'm glad we took the trip to Burlington to check it out. As is clear from its outward appearance, New Jang Su is no pretense. The setting is suited for families, couples and singles alike. From the small dishes of cucumber salad, pickled radish, kimchee, tofu, and others too numerous to conjure up to the squid&pork belly special and the prime rib, the food was exceptionally tasty. The service was excellent. Our waitress had mastered the skill of being quite attentive without being overly fussy. This is a great place to go when you'd rather eat than be seen. I look forward to my next order of bulgogi!

This place is the shiz. Up until I found New Jang Su, all of my Korean food experiences have been bleh (Shilla, Koreana, etc.). This place really makes me appreciate and love Korean BBQ. It's easy to drive right by this place because it is barely noticeable from the road. But, if you are coming from 95, look for the CVS, and it's in the next lot over. I definitely had to drive by at least twice before I realized where it was. There is also a ton of parking in the front. Definitely a huge plus for me! The staff there is SUPER friendly. We had a large group of ten people, and we had two incredibly sweet and helpful Korean ladies helping us all night. They cooked all the meat for us, gave us more of the delicious little side dishes whenever we ran out, refilled our drinks, etc. They were all super attentive and nice. The meat we got for the Korean BBQ was tender and marinated to perfection. For our large group, we got 7 orders of meat, and it was more than enough. However, be prepared to reek of Korean food and smoke when you leave... but I guess it goes with the territory when you eat Korean BBQ. Price was also reasonable considering how much food we got. Highly highly recommend! Go check it out if you're jonesing for Korean BBQ!

Very good Korean barbeque, but my Korean friend told me to avoid the other Korean dishes as they are done better elsewhere. We got pork belly (cooked in foil to prevent the pork fat from flaring up on the grill) and kalbi which was served with some roasted garlic and six different types of panchan. I thought it was a little bit expensive, but if you are in the mood for Korean BBQ in Boston this is a good, no frills choice.

Very satisfying experience! And less expensive and stuffy than the bourgeois-ified Korean restaurants around Mass (i.e. Apgujung and Koreana). New Jang Su reminds me of the comfy old places I would go to in Cali with my family, where we enjoyed times when my siblings and i would char things on the grill and then run around in the parking lot while the parents kept chatting over delicious rice tea. Oooohhh yeah the tea is so good there too! Gah did I just become my mom? Anyways... in summary the Kalbi has da bomb marinade. The japchae is delish, and the bulgogi is savory good! It's too bad they don't do buffet style, though I don't think any of the Korean places in Mass do that. Also they tend to cook the food for you which is ok if you are not a control freak.

This place just went up 1 star, maybe because they're familiar with our faces, therefore, they're soo much nicer to us. Also, I learned not to order bogolgi. All I order now is spicy rice cake, marinated pork belly and marinated short rib.

It's not bad. It's not great, but it's not bad. The atmosphere can definitely use sprucing up a bit, but the food itself is adequate Korean food, it's not the best but it's certainly not the worst in the great Boston area either. If your nearby then it's worth stopping in. Why oh why Boston do you have to have mediocre Korean food compared to NYC and LA?

The food here is good. I have had much better, but I am still happy to get a meal here. They sell out of the lunch boxes very quickly though. I have gotten there around 12:15 and 9 out of 10 times they were out of the boxes. That is OK though because the one time I was able to get one I was not impressed. The portions were way too small. the nice thing was i got to try a few things that I had not tasted there before so I knew I could order those off the menu and enjoy them. The Chap Chae is by stand by order although I have tried many things off the menu. The Chap Chae is very tasty. It is loaded with veggies and meat and has a lot of flavor. The service is pretty good. There is one waitress who is very friendly and remembers me each time I come in, even if I go a few months without going there. She is very fast and you will often see her literally running from the dining room to the kitchen and back.

I really liked their barbequed beef. The servers were sweet and helpful, telling us what each tiny appetizer dish was, and grilling up our meat perfectly. It was a tad empty when we got there, but got slowly filled up when we left. Granted we did show up on a random Wednesday at 6pm... so it could have been just us weirdos. I especially liked one Yelper's advice to get the dumplings because they were de-lish!!!! I will definitely get some of that again :) and the juicy beef and rice :)

Box of beef something for lunch. I never had Korean BBQ before, so the food was pretty good. Unfortunately, the grill seemed to waft a gas smell once in a while and that threw me off.

Go in clothes that you don't mind fumigating with the delicious smell of Korean BBQ smell for days because New Jang Su is that kind of a place! Even if you are not getting the grilled BBQ meats, most tables around you will, so your clothes will smell anyway. And you will regret not getting the BBQ in the first place and hit yourself in the head!!! Highly populate by dining Korean people (always a good sign of authenticity when the natives haunt a place), NJS is this tiny hole in the wall in Burlington along Rte. 3 that you would totally pass by because the sign is predominantly in Korean. But the food is sooooo good, fragrant, and satisfying!!! The ban chan (free Korean appetizers) are plentiful and include a good selection of spicy kimchee and nonspicy veggies. Service is fast and efficient but if you seem in anyway non-Korean or eating with your non-Asian friends, the waitress will aggressively grill your meat. Just politely say that you want to do it yourself and she'll look at you skeptically but back off. So leave the ball gown and tux at home and get yourself some authentic Korean BBQ!

This was my first Korean BBQ experience, so I can't compare it with other places. I can say that the staff was helpful and patient with newbies, and the food was good. I managed to make a big mess of my dinner while trying to wrap it in the lettuce, but generally enjoyed it anyway. We were there near closing time and the place was practically empty.

I've been here a bunch of times for lunch. I've had many items of the menu and all have been good. I'm no Korean connoisseur and can't even remember what any of the dishes are called, but they all tasted good. Those big spicy soup bowls sure are big! Even if you never make it to the bottom of the bowl, you'll get a little sweaty. If you are in the area and craving Korean or spicy you can't go wrong here. The place kind of feels like how a diner in Korea would feel, not that they'd call them diners, nor have I been to Korea, but still.

If you've ever find yourself wandering around the Burlington area of MA and craving for some good Korean BBQ, then hit up this place! You might, of course, need to enlist the help of your GPS to find this place, as it isn't really off a main road. It is in fact embedded inside of a quaint little strip mall, right next to a laundromat. Don't drive too fast (or blink) or else you will zip right pass this place (which I almost did). But, with that said, don't let the outside facade fool you; the food is actually on par or better than the other Korean BBQ joints in the city. For starters, we ordered the Gul Go-Chu Pajun (Korean-style pancake with scallions, oysters, and hot pepper) and the Tuk Bok Ki (sliced rice cakes and scallions stir-fried in seasoned hot chili sauce). The Gul Go-Chu Pajun was pretty good here, pretty flavorful and better than at lots of other places which I've tried this. The Tuk Bok Ki was pretty good too, although I found it to be more sweet than spicy, despite the description with "hot chili sauce;" then again, of course, I loveee Thai food so I can withstand more than just a mild flavor in spicy food. For the main dishes, we, of course, ordered the barbeque plates: the Bul Go Ki, which is just sliced tender prime rib eyes, marinated with homemade sauce; short ribs, which is exactly that, short ribs marinated with homemade sauce; and I forgot the actual name of the third dish, but it was just a plate of pork belly and raw squid with vegetables marinated with their homemade spicy sauce. For each barbeque plate that you order, it comes with a bowl of rice. And you also get the ubiquitous plates of kimchi that come with your meal too. Kimchi are traditional Korean dishes of vegetables that are seasoned and usually fermented, or pickled. The Bul Go Ki and short ribs actually tasted quite flavorful. Nom nom nom. I guess they marinated them well enough here. Unlike at some other places in which I've tried, they tasted kinda bland and just well, tasted like beef. The meat was nice and tender too; easy to chew, not like eating rubber, although the texture could change if you leave the meat on the grill cooking too long. We had cooked it to be about medium so I think anymore, the meat would start to get leathery. The pork belly and squid plate, in my opinion, only tasted okay. But hey, this is what we get for trying out new stuff. It tasted a bit spicy but besides that, I didn't really find anything special with this place. At least the squid wasn't too chewy; I guess we cooked it to be the right temperature then. The only disappointment I had was their selection of kimchi, or lack thereof. I am not a big fan of the red and spicy kimchi dishes, like the pickled cabbage for instance, and that was mostly all they had. I actually like the kimchi mung beans or watercress that some other places have but unfortunately this place didn't have either. Oh well, c'est la vie. Overall, this place does serve good food. Like I said earlier, it is at least on par, if not better than, with some of the other places inside the city. I guess if you lived all the way in Burlington, you don't have to drive 45 minutes into the city of Boston just to have good Korean BBQ; you have one right in the middle of your town already.

This restaurant is 4.5 star!! I decided not to give it a 5 star (almost though) because there must be a Korean restaurant out there that is better than the rest that I haven't tried. This definitely is the best Korean Restaurant in MA and comparable with all the delicious Korean restaurants in Los Angeles. In addition, I think it is better than Koreana. I tried this place for the first time last Tuesday. It was pretty packed for a place on a Tuesday night considering it was far away from the center of Boston. More than half of the customers were Koreans, suggesting that the food must be excellent and authentic. I had the Ribs, Pork and Squid. All three were excellent if they were grilled right, so make sure you would do a good job. The panchun (little dishes) were really good and, speaking from a Taiwanese point of view, authentic. The waitresses were really nice. The only disappointment was that they couldn't serve alcohol. Give this place a try but bring your own beer!

  • Max M.

The scallion pancake was very good. Kalbi was also, I thought the bulgogi was excellent, great marinade. Kimchi chegi was nice & spicy. Service was very attentive and hovered and moved & turned the meat when needed. My only problem is no booze! Nothing goes better with Korean barbecue than a cold beer. Oh well, a minor quibble for a very solid meal.

kinda hard to find at night if you dont already know where it is. The pancake was really good but the oysters and shrimps were TINY... maybe overcooked or been in the microwave?!... it was kinda soggy. The bbq was pretty good... came with 6 diff banchans per 2 ppl (only 2 re-fills allowed per 2) and quantity was enough to feed 2 adults. The wait staff is usually too busy to attend to our needs since they are kinda short of ppl on busy nights.

I work in the are and just found out about this place by chance. It's not too small. perfect if you go on with a group of people because the waiters cook your food on the barbecue grill which each table has. The service is really fast. The food is sooo tasty. Bring some extra mints for afterwords as the food has a lot of garlic but is not heavy for digesting. Prices are not for a daily lunch place. If you go at nights or weekends make a reservation.

I've been here a couple of times for takeout. Frankly, I can't tell you what specific dishes I ordered. I picked three or four on each occasion -- without knowing what they were, although I can tell you that two were noodle dishes, one was a variety of bim bin bop, and the others involved meat and rice in some interesting mixtures. I can tell you that they were all terrific -- coming with a bunch of cold, side dishes of vegetables: kim chi, bean sprouts, and the like. The prices are a little steep for Asian food -- but the quality is superior. An excellent place to eat.

Tasty food, but the prices for the portions of meat are high. $25-ish per person nets you two types of meat for the table grill, and we left feeling a little hungry still. The bulgogi marinade was great, definitely the highlight of the meal! The oksusu cha was tasty but our pot cooled off so fast... I don't think it was freshly brewed. I've had the bibimbap before and it was great, I think its a better bang for your buck. Sometimes we'll get an order to supplement the meat if the crowd is bigger. The interior is really unremarkable - cozy enough for an intimate get-together with friends and family, not too noisy, but also not super duper sparkly clean. The interior really could use a bit of love and updating. My biggest gripe is the small serving sizes for meats. For the money you pay ($22 for beef bulgogi) I'd expect more. I left feeling hungry still, and I'm not even 115lbs, so I can only imagine how hungry my boyfriend still felt! I'll go back,

visited this place with my friend on Wednesday for dinner. It is a family style restaurant, neat and clean with friendly service. Food came out really quickly. We had seafood pancake and a kind of hot casserole with beef (cannot remember the exact name of the casserole). The pancake was so soft that we cannot even move it our plate without breaking it. As you can imagine it was not crispy at all. I really love Korean pancake and tried it at several other Korean restaurants, but they were all pretty crispy. I was pretty disappointed and confused at this one actually. The casserole was delicious. My friend does not enjoy scallion but I am fine with it. So I finished more than half a bowl (very large bowl) by myself. It was really nice cooked. Price was reasonable too. I tried to find bibimbap because I am really a fan of bibimbap, but I failed. I guess this place was mainly for BBQ.

I've always been a huge sucker for family-run restaurants, especially when service is so fantastic. It's a pity, then, that I wasn't impressed with their food. Their famed corn tea was pretty great, but everything else lacked flavor for me. Perhaps I should've gone with the spicy? I got Naeng Myun, which had good broth but was otherwise formless. The beef wasn't particularly good, nor the noodles, and the bowl was deceptively large for how few noodles there were (though I ultimately felt bad about not finishing the broth). Salt and pepper was offered with some chopped green onions, but they did little to offset the lack of flavor. The broth was much improved by their addition, but the beef itself was still lacking. Really wish I was more satisfied, both in my taste buds and my stomach.

This place is in a strip mall. Don't park directly in front of the restaurant because your headlights will shine straight through the windows annoying the patrons. They should cover those windows. The decor is drab. But none of it matters when the food is this good. We ordered: ddukboki (spicy rice cake) mandoo (fried dumplings) BBQ: Pork belly BBQ: Kalbi (marinated beef short ribs) This restaurant is known for their Kalbi. And it did not disappoint. In fact, everything we ordered, including bonchon (side dishes) were all delicious. The service was pretty good as well. There were two women who went back and forth cooking the meat on the grill for us while serving dishes. The atmosphere is casual. I didn't notice any music in the background... which can make things a little awkward. But they had a TV on the wall playing CNN. But again, none of this matters because the food was really good. As a Korean-American, I'm always trying to think where to recommend friends for Korean BBQ around Boston. I think I found the place! I've tried many different Korean restaurants in NYC. The standard there is high. And this place can go toe-to-toe with any of them. Aside from its interior and lack of music and its odd location, this place is legit. Don't forget to try their Kalbi. Oh, one more thing... they don't serve alcohol. No alcohol. A big downside for me but... the food is really good.

I ordered some take out from New Jang Su Korean BBQ in Burlington. I rarely go there but I thought I'd grab a few dishes for us to share in addition to our homemade Korean BBQ that we would have that night. My niece loves her bim bim bap so I also ordered a couple lunch orders. The Korean dish came with all the vegetables and meats separated in sections, topped with a sunny side egg and shredded seaweed with rice on the side. The vegetables consisted of lettuce, bean sprouts, carrots, and spinach. The lunch menu is VERY affordable. Most of the dishes was around $ 7.00 each. I ordered 2 of the Chap Chae, a dish made from sweet potato noodles and stir fried with sesame oil, vegetables, and meats. It's my favorite Korean dish because it reminds me of my mother's (Cha Masour) which is thin bean thread cellophane noodles. The clay pot bim bim bap on the dinner menu also intrigued me so I got an order to go. It was almost like a fried rice with all the ingredients already mixed together. All the dishes was served with additional white rice, Korean staple condiments such as Kim Chi, daikon and cucumbers along with a couple sides of Korean chili bean paste. So good. My wife and I go out of our way for this place. Clean and fresh, plus the owners are there and are super friendly. Get the bulgogi and squid with pork belly. Prices are a bit steep, $20 per bbq item with 2 minimum but worth it for the quality.

Didn't try their BBQ. Friendly service. We had the specialty casserole for 2( a pot with seafood and noodles inside ) and seafood pancake. we expected the casserole to include Korean ramen but it turned out that instead of ramen, they use vermicelli. We love it ever more! The seafood pancake was unlike those I've had before ( it has a soft texture but I've always had the crispy ones. They are just different from what I had before but the pancake still taste decent )

Drove 30 minutes to get Korean BBQ at this place recommended by a colleague. Big restaurant was pretty empty around 8pm. Greeted by nice hostess/waitress. Had "kul pajun" (Korean oyster pizza/pancake) for appetizer. Ordered a serving of "kalbi" (Korean beef BBQ) and "samgyupsal" (Korean pork BBQ) with handful of "banchans" (condiments) on side that weren't attentively replaced. Waitress was nice but had to walk up to her to replace the banchans and took awhile to get the check. There were three of us, so we weren't full. So we ordered "o-jing-o bokum" (octopus stir fry), very salty. I wsnt full. Bill came out to $84 not including tip. Wasn't impressed.

I met a friend here for lunch recently and we were pretty satisfied with our meal. Nothing mind-blowing, nothing terrible. The corn tea definitely lived up to the hype. I wish I could get that more often! They were out of what we both wanted, so we each ordered a lunch special entree and shared. I had beef and she had pork. Both tasty. The kimchi and spicy cucumber that accompanied our entrees was good. This was my first experience with Korean food and I liked it! The restaurant itself is definitely of the hole-in-the-wall variety. There was a fly buzzing around us the whole time and it doesn't look like much (esp from the outside), but I think it was worth it. I'd go back!

I enjoyed the food and friendly service. I really like the homey interior. We ordered tteokbokki, kbbq- pork belly, bulgogi, kalbi, bibimbap, japchae, as well as the seafood soup which contained a variety of fish. I recommend the tteokbokki--it was delicious (moderately spicy and not too soft/hard), and bibimbap. The spicy cucumber banchan is my favorite. The more expensive kalbi is definitely better and delicious. I like kbbq here more than Koreana. Worth the money and 40min drive.

Really excited to have a good Korean BBQ place in our backyard. I found the food to be better than Koreana in Cambridge or Apgujung in Newton. They cook for you here and it didn't bother us on this visit as we had 4 people and they only cooked one meat platter at a time. We had one order of Beef and one order of spicy pork. Hopefully if you were to get multiple platters of one thing they don't cook it all at once. Their banchan was plentiful and delicious. Great Kimchi, spicy cucumber, pickled radish, fish cake and tofu. We really liked their korean pancake with fresh peppers (mild and hot). The only miss of the meal was the japchae which was very greasy, not in a good way. The pork in it was just ok as well. Their japchae paled in comparison to Manna House in Arlington. The pancake was good but also not as good as Manna House. I'm interested in trying some other authentic Korean dishes here to see how they compare. The beef bulgoki was tender and had a nice marinade and we also enjoyed the spicy pork which had a nice kick and lots of veggies. For now, come here for the delicious bbq. Tip : This place is a bit on the pricey side as they charge at least 19$ for each bbq dish and to BBQ you must order 2 dishes. The portions are not large and if you're only having bbq I would probably recommend one order per person.

There is no better korean bbq in MA. Not even close. Best short rib. Best squid. Best bonchon. I also really like the consommé and the kalbi tan. Squid and pork belly is a fire dish too!! The biggest issue with this place is that my GF prefers Bulgogi and I prefer Kalbi. The husband and wife team alongside a couple of servers and bussers deliver friendly and thorough service every time. I'll drive to Burlington from Cambridge anyday for this korean bbq. They make me so happy :]

I didn't try their famous barbecue, just some traditional Korean food only. But I will go back to try their barbecue, because the food I tried today tempts me to do so. Plus, the service is extremely friendly, that made me enjoy my lunch more. When I walked in, I was welcomed by two Korean waitresses with their energetic greetings and warm smiles. After I was seated very quickly, one waitress brought me a pot of the corn tea and told me what it is. I have to admit, I am kind of addicted to their corn tea. Unlike other regular tea, the corn tea has a slightly natural sweet taste, just very slightly. Both of them seemed to really care about how I liked their food, coming to check on me each time when they bringing a new dish to me. Not in an annoying manner at all. You would know it's not a routine service, rather a real care. I ordered TukBokKi and YookGeJang. The portion of TukBokKi is generous. And the Tuk (rice cake) is the general one that you can see at most Korean restaurants, the long cylindrical type. I like its chewy texture, but the flavor is a lil too sweet to me. Instead of spicy, it's more on the sweet side. This is the only thing that I liked less than others. But except that, everything else is great. As for the YookGeJang, I really love it. It's a traditional hot soup dish, and the spicy level is just right to me. Some shredded beef came along with lots of scallion and other vegetable, and also served with white rice. Because I just had another YookGeJang at one of Korean restaurants in Allstan a couple days ago, compared to the previous one, this one is superb. Regardless of the flavor or the portion, the YookGeJang at New Jang Su wins outright. Not even mention the price during lunchtime is merely half of the original price tag. A great deal for sure. The banchan served here is some traditional types, kimchi, fish cakes, chilled spicy cucumber, and bean sprout. All are very good as well. Overall, I really enjoy the food and service here. I will find a time to try their Korean barbecue so as other non-barbecue dishes.

Quality of the food vastly overrides how the otherwise informal environment is experienced here. It seems a little high priced for Korean BBQ however the service is excellent and the flavors are perfect. No alcohol is available here. We were started off with a nice tisane, I think it was either corn or barley tea. Our group was able to enjoy a conversation while the server cooked the meats at our table, ensuring perfectly grilled meat served as it was just finished. The Banchan/ side dishes were all delicious, seemed thoughtfully selected and each offered a nice complimentary texture and flavor. The Tukbokki was filled with veggies and no fishcake, and the sauce very rich and savory. The hot soup could have been a little more spicy but otherwise had a delicious flavor. The tempura veggies and mandoo were good. Again, the service was efficient, pleasant and never too hover-ey but she made sure we were all served perfectly grilled food. Really looking forward to another visit!

When we came here some time ago it was a random thing we saw online so we tried it. First time ever having Korean Barbecue, first time I ever tried Kimchi, and it was a blast from start to finish. We became addicted to the Corn Tea they serve here with the meal, having the experience of barbecuing meats on the tabletop was just lovely. The sides they give were top notch and overall this was a great food experience. We haven't been back since that one time, but we still talk about it to this day. I saw it on here today that someone reviewed it and I just had to give a five star rating. The service was great our waitress explained everything in detail and then told us about the Corn tea and how it was made. Telling you we loved it so much we then went to Hmart and bought a huge bag of roasted Corn kernels! Outstanding meal!

My dad takes me here on my birthdays and I love coming here to get my Korean fix. I love the BBQ and the food. I find the food very authentic, I am Korean so I feel like I can say it was authentic. The lady server is always good to us and I like the food here. There is always too much ordered but you can take it home.

The kalbi was hard to chew... more tougher than normal..but the bogolgi was good. Asked for extra napkins..and they bought back how many? 1. For TWO people. The first time i asked...he didn't even hear me. pft. I'm not impressed by this place, and i am never driving 40 mins to try it again! I think i'll go to hmart and then grill my own korean bbq.

I had dinner with my girlfriend on a Friday night. The food was OK. The 2 stars is really more for the service. Nothing against the waitresses, however, i was thoroughly confused on why there were only 2 waitresses and one busboy managing the whole floor, greeting customers, and taking care of the take out on a busy a Friday night. It was pretty busy and i noticed the waitress spend more time flipping people's meat on the grill then they did of doing anything else. I believe they could spend more time taking care of customers then flipping meat. I'm sure the customer's can flip their own meat. We spent more time waiting for the bill and getting ready to leave then we did eating. Finally after waiting for maybe half an hour to pack our food up and get the bill, some random guy dressed in a chef's suit in all black helped us out (assuming he's the manager?). I had no issues with the waitresses, they were very nice. However, management or the lack there of is a serious issue. Perhaps they should stop sitting around with their thumb up their @$$ and improve the service... I wouldn't come back here.

I just had a dinner tonight at New Jangsu...when we went there around 6:30pm, no one was there...I mean no customers at all. We heard the barbeque is good here so I was very exciting perhaps there were no people..so I was kind of worried but yes...the meats were fresh and very tender. I personally didn't like the side dishes though. Overall, the staffs were very polite and friendly. I just hope!!! They spend some money to repaint the wall and the restrook work.

There is no doubt, I have to give this place 5 stars. I grew up in Reading, MA, am Korean, and was adopted. This place has been a memory in my mind and my heart ever since I can remember. I've been coming here since I was little (sporadically) to get a Korean food fix. Now that I'm older, I find myself craving this place more because a) I can actually find it on my own now and b) I just love Korean food. I beg my husband to go here multiple times a month and although I don't always convince him, when I do, he loves it too. I can see why it may get lower reviews: it is a tiny bit rundown, small-ish, in a strip mally location in Burlington....but regardless, it's great. I recommend it for first-time eaters of Korean food, for anyone...especially if you live in the burbs and don't want to drive all the way into Brighton/Allston or Chinatown. The BBQ here - so, you have to get two dishes in order to have the at your table BBQ...all good! more food! The bulgogi is delicious, the squid is awesome, any of the pork dishes...it's all delicious. We always get bulgogi and spicy squid. The kimchi and other banchan are yummy. I could eat multiple dishes of it. The lettuce for wraps is always clean and fresh. The rice is perfect. The mandoo are also delicious - fried to perfection with awesome dipping sauce...our usual starter. The japchae is also delicious - awesome flavor, big portion and great cold the next day if you have leftovers. I have not had any jigaes or other dishes here, but someday...maybe someday...we will stray away from our usual order :) The other thing I love about this restaurant - the staff. The owner, the waitresses, the busboy...they are all wonderful. Friendly, efficient, and we love saying hi to them all when we go. The one bit of advice I'll give to anyone who goes here though: although each bbq table has a fan above it, they don't work as well as Korean restaurants with the fan that comes all the way down to the table. Leave your jacket in the car!!! You will leave this place smelling like bbq.

I went here summer 2012. Customer service is AWFUL. Waitress and manager were both rude. Let's clarify that the food did not make up for the service. Got Korean BBQ and Bi Bam Bap. Ok...meat was dry. I asked the waitress for more sauce and she just said a straight-up "No." No explanation or reasoning. Same answer for those korean pickled sides that come with BBQ. Ridiculous!! Btw, the girl's bathroom (private/single) has a broken lock. It's there, but clearly broken. So I asked my bf to stand in front of the door so that no one would come in. The manager actually told him to "go sit down" without asking him if he needed help or anything. The bill with bi bam bap and 2 BBQ dishes was somewhere like ~$70+ for two people. I remember it being a lot, because the portions were small and it just wasn't good. And it's just ugly inside. Looks like a re-purposed living room. Hope this place shuts down. Went on a Saturday night and there were at most 3 tables filled. Yet service was still slow. AND H-MART IS DOWN THE STREET. GO THERE.

First time ever having Korean BBQ, and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience! Great food, and wonderful service. Yes the two waitresses were very busy, but they never neglected us and they smiled and explained the menu and the BBQ procedures. We purchased three entrees which was plenty for the three of us, with nothing left over because it was all so yummy! Highly recommended!

Overall a good experience. We came here for lunch during the weekday, it wasn't very busy which was surprising given the experience we had. We had the bbq and the food tasted good and the service was great. The waitress handled most of the cooking returning every now and then to flip meat or add more, which to some may seem pointless but I feel as if this decreases the chance of people either under cooking or over cooking their food and then having that to complain about.

My husband and I love this place! We've never had a bad time or meal, my favorite is the pork kimchi and the seafood soup. It doesn't look like much from the outside but the food and friendly employees more then make up for it.

I went there to have a family dinner after shopping at 4-6-2014 and at first the place is old and customer service is absolutely none. Ask for more side dish one of the staff or maybe even owner stated will give two more dish and end up no side dish. I will not going back to this restaurant for sure and I will not ever recommend any body to go to this restaurant. The price we got charged with absolutely high with very small portion plus beef is dark not really fresh.

I have been eating here since 2008-2009 and have brought a different number of people here. The people here have seen me go through 2 boyfriends, and I still eat here with my current one. We always get two orders of bulgogi and sometimes an appetizer. Yeah we come here for the bulgogi as it is the best bulgogi around Boston. I guess you could say my whole review is just based off bulgogi and not on anything else haha. Service is nice as ususal but a bit awkward when they cook your food while you're trying to eat. It is kind of uncomfortable but most korean places dont like you cooking your own food so you have to deal with it. Control freaks will hate that. And the other day they randomly put a sign up saying theyll reopen at 4, which I did not appreciate cause it was cold. If per chance the quality of there meat ever goes down I probably will stop coming. Order the bulgogi on the bbq it is so yummy.

Have been there for both luch and dinner. Very good choices of lunch specials, ranging from noodle soups to lunch boxes. For dinner, I usually go for BBQ. Love their beef and seafood.

Eh- Not too much to this place. I know Korean BBQ is more on the expensive side, but thought this place was a little more expensive than usual. Don't come here if you're expecting to be full if you don't want to spend that much $$. Overall the food was okay, but the service was good! Just the overall experience was not what I thought it would be, especially with a group of my friends. We thought is was okay, but probably not going to go back anytime soon.

I've enjoyed Korean cuisine in a variety of cities across the US, and I can say with confidence that this is the best. Korean bbq. What can be tastier than meat cooked over flames right at your table...verily right inside your table! Delicious sauces, delicious kimchees, delicious barley tea, many little bowels filled with samples of such delectable little samples. I can't wait to return!

Fun, great flavors, family atmosphere, what more could you ask? It was our first time at a Korean BBQ we had no idea what we were in for. It's easy to miss this place as you drive by and once inside the decor leaves a lot to be desired. But it's all about the food and the company in there. With a grill in every table, you order various types of raw meat or veggies and the staff helps you cook it to perfection. Dinner comes with at least 6 kinds of kimchi, and a basket of lettuce so you can eat everything separately or make a lettuce wrap with your meat and whatever else you want to add. I highly recommend the Korean pancakes and Bul Gog ki (I'm sure I spelled this wrong). There were only two waitresses for the whole place and they were literally running around but they were so friendly and helpful you just felt like family. We'd definitely come back again.

My boyfriend and I stopped by this place shortly after a Korean food hankering hit my stomach pretty hard. Overall, the food definitely satisfied by craving! We ordered Bulgolgi and Pork Belly BBQ which was delicious and plentiful. Arriving and eating around 2:45PM, we had attentive service who came over to flip our meat fairly regularly. After we devoured our sides, we found out that we could only choose two more extra sides before getting charged extra This was disappointing news, but nonetheless, everything was delicious. As for the atmosphere, well, it's nothing special. . I noticed the wooden chairs felt sticky and the the decor hasn't been updated in years. However, we came for the good cooking and not the atmosphere.

This place is not fancy at all. In fact the place is a little grungy but it has the best Korean BBQ. I've been to many Korean BBQ place but this place by far has the best tasting BBQ. The kalbi and spicy pork belly are absolutely delicious. The spicy beef soup is also flavorful. If you're looking to have a good Korean BBQ, I would definitely recommend this place.

Good Korean BBQ place in Burlington. Got the pork belly and Bulgoki, the marinade on the bulgoki was great and the selection of side dishes is impressive, I just wish you got slightly more than 3 bites of Kimchi before it was gone. I will definately be back to try the other grilled offereings.

The food is delicious. They do get pretty busy for dinner time on weekends, so beware. The decor isn't anything snazzy but honestly, I care more about the food and cleanliness than snazzy decorations. A little pricier than other places I have been but still worth it.

  • Rolo C.

Korean BBQ places like this would not survive in NY. Super slow service, poor side dishes (didn't have scallion mix and lettuce for kalbi wrap were cut in half), kalbi was too sweet and pork belly cooks in aluminum foil dish (cooking in fat), and decor was sloppy. Also, they don't serve alcohol and don't allow byob. How can you not have a cold beer with Korean BBQ?

Obviously love myself some korean bbq and hate traveling into the city and dealing with parking so I decided to give this place a try. I was so disappointed with my experience and will not return. The service awful. My party was seated by a gentleman and we were poured water and started looking at the menu. A sweaty angry man came over and started yelling at us telling us it wasn't our turn to be seated. Of course we didn't intentionally "cut the line" and we didn't realize the group of 4 standing in front of us was actually 2 groups of 2. We were seated and didn't think anything of it. Sorry? I think the place is understaffed and the manager/owner is a control freak. They took forever to take the orders and the food is overpriced for what is served. The waiters don't like you flipping your own food...so you're basically forced to let it burn and overcook, or break their unspoken rule and do it yourself. There are better places in Boston, just make the trip and save yourself the headache!

Admittedly, I have had better Korean BBQ in California but considering the area this place is great. I have had Korean bbq at a few places in Cambridge and Somerville and this place is just as good or better. The service is good. They are very attentive. The bbq beef has great flavor and so does the kimchi. As for price, it is reasonable. A bit less than places in Cambridge or Somerville. It is Burlington, afterall...

  • Charles G.

We were somewhat disappointed. The seafood pancake appetizer was more like an omelet; had better. The short rib was good. A chicken and shrimp dish was uninteresting. The restaurant was poorly decorated and not clean. The busboy spilled liquid on the floor and then rubbed it into the carpet with his foot! We will continue our search for Korean BBQ

I had the buffet. The setup was ok. The food selections for the money was limited. The food was barely warm. Taste wise, the food was bland lacking luster. The miso soup was very long on liquid short of substance which means very little tofu. The brown rice, which is a credit, was a helpful choice. P.s. the tea was hideously bad. During the week, the lunch buffet is 8.95. During the weekend it is 12.95 . The food is simply not worth 12.95. I may have given it a better rating if the food cost 6.95 which is what I would consider fair value. The more you charge, the more a customer expects.

does not take reservations, but does have the grills built into the tables, which I wanted. Food was fine, service fine for a low-key place. waitstaff insisted on cooking our meat for us, which I will not allow next time - the point of tableside grilling is to cook your own! we had bulgogi, rib, and bi bimbap, all were fine. the sides are numerous but not generous - we had to ask for more of several items, but they were brought quickly. I did notice a clear sense of being rushed, even though we were there at 5pm. We'd go back, love the tabletop grilling, but eager to find other places that offer that and a bit more ambiance. the chicken dishes are brought in a tinfoil tray and put on top of the grill. no idea why, and I did not like this presentation - raw chicken mixed with raw veggies before cooking -- see pictures below. Id rather have them served separate and I can grill the chicken myself while the veg cook in the tinfoil. (how about a small cast iron skillet as a visual upgrade?)

A hidden gem on Rt. 3A !!! I never would have knew this placed existed until I clicked on "Korean" in a Yahoo restaurant search. It is set so far back from the road that it took me awhile to actually find it (even though it was right in front of me!) It is a great place for lunch if you work in the Billerica, Burlington, Bedford area. The have a BBQ area (which is great for small groups) where they cook the food on the table (but don't get this confused with Japanese teppanyaki) and regular seating. If you go BBQ, plan on spending at least $15/pp. If you go to the regular seating, order the "Korean lunchbox". It's got a little bit of everything and is less than $10.

Excellent Korean restaurant in the godforsaken suburbs, including very fine grill table "BBQ". Grill-table "BBQ" is a great introduction to the wonderful food of Korea. It's not too scary, especially if you steer clear of the chili-laden, fermented-napa condiment/side dish kimchi, which is as ubiquitous on Korean tables as salt shakers on American ones, and stinky and incendiary to frighten away many neophytes. This easy-to-miss spot in a Burlington strip plaza (look just north of the CVS for the sign that says "Korean BBQ") does very fine grill-table Korean. I've been using this place to woo my unadventurous friends to the joys of Korean cuisine for 10 years. First-timers will be heartened to see the restaurant's dozen grill tables filled with non-Koreans tending plates of marinated meat or seafood -- thin slices of beef short ribs (a/k/a galbi, one of the world's great ways to enjoy beef), ribeye, chicken breast, squid, shrimp, or pork belly ($16-$19/plate, minimum two orders) -- over inset gas grills. The garlicky, slightly sweet marinades elegantly amplify the simple pleasures of animal protein cooked to your desired degree of doneness. You may decide to eat your bite-size bits of barbecue simply with rice, or authentically wrap them individually in lettuce leaves with a dollop of bean-paste condiment and bits of the half-dozen accompanying banchan (side dishes of kimchi, pickled daikon, sesame-dressed bean sprouts, fish-cake slices, chopped sea vegetable, and spicy pickled cucumber). Having negotiated this delicious and not-too-strange introduction, maybe you'll come back for "pottery" bibimbab ($13), a mild and hearty dish of rice given a lovely golden crust from stone-vessel cooking, stirred up with thin-sliced rib eye, vegetables, and fried egg, and drizzled with sweetened gochuchang (Korean fermented hot sauce). Who knows? Maybe sometime you'll tackle kimchi jige ($10), a soul-firing stew of pork and chili-blazing kimchi, or cham pong ($8), a soup of thick, ropy strands of wheat noodles with shrimp, squid, and fish cake, so laden with ripe, searing chilies that it's almost the color of blood. But don't push your luck. Start with the barbecue and pretend you're the kind of daring gastronaut who laughs at a little chili-spiked cabbage. If you're anything like even my wimpiest friends, you'll be glad you did.

(This restaurant is also known as New Jang Su.) Hands down, my favourite Korean restaurant in the greater Boston area. The food here is excellent, with a great variety of panchan (those little dishes they serve you before the food comes) and their BBQ is incredibly tasty. The kopdol bibimbap is chock full of tasty goodness and served with kochujang sauce (spicy chili paste). The kimchi jigae will have you sweating like a pig! If you've got a meat loving friend (there's a minimum of two orders for the BBQ), try the bulgogi and galbi. It's cooked right at your table by ever-smiling waitresses. The service here is friendly and helpful. You are presented with a hot pot of tea when you sit down and your order is taken quickly and efficiently. Even when they're busy, they still manage to take care of the customers. It doesn't quite measure up to the Korean places in San Jose, Queens, or Fort Lee, but it's the best in the Boston area.

In one sentence: The food is delicious & served fast by extremely helpful staff!! Unfortunately, I don't recall the Korean names of the dishes we tried, but I know what they contained: One was the short ribs. These were so tender and juicy. I am definitely getting these again! The other dishes contained bacon and chicken with vegetables and were also delicious. They were served with the lettuce, radish, soybean paste, and kim chee. The squid is highly recommended as well, so I must go back to try that one, soon! In general, it leaned a little towards the pricey-side. But, since the service was impeccable and so was the food, I can justify it. (Something of note, I got a strange look/reaction after giving our waitress one of my "You've been Yelped!" cards. So, if you go there, make sure you offer positive reinforcement for this site so they get used to hearing about it... I got the impression she thought she was on Candid Camera, or something.) :P

We love New Jang Su! Our favorites are the Mandoo Tempura (fried dumplings - always steaming hot and savory), chicken tempura, Bul Go Ki (marinated beef on the grill), and Pottery Bibim Bab. We eat the Bul Go Ki the traditional way, wrapped in the lettuce leaves with sticky rice, with a spoonful of one of the side dishes. It's a hands-on meal, really down to earth. The wait staff works hard to serve tables quickly. And the manager (owner?) is genuinely friendly and ALWAYS comes by to see how things were and to thank us for the business. The place is spotless and you just feel like the management is top notch.

Good Korean BBQ. Bul Go Ki is great and the portions are pretty big. Haven't had a bad meal yet.

The food is very good, and the grill tables are recommended at this hidden little Korean restaurant next to a laundromat and situated in the suburbs. As with many Korean restaurants, drinks that aren't cans of soda are missing and vegetarian options are limited. However, the lunchboxes, in particular, are recommended, if you aren't going all out with the grilling. They do run out of items there, though, and sometimes the help and management can be heard arguing in the back. In short, it's a good thing the place has some tasty grub.

BEST KOREAN BBQ EVER! I may not be Korean but I went here with a Korean who swore by it and I was hooked immediately. I've had the bulgogi and the pork BBQ and both were amazing. Tender, delicious, and cooked right in front of you, so it's really hot and fresh off the grill. The little dishes of kimchi, radish, and cucumber just keep on coming, as much as you want! They are the perfect accompaniment to the delicious meat. You should also try the bibimbap (I've had it for lunch). I recommend it for dinner especially but lunch is great too (although I didn't try it, I saw people having this AMAZING looking lunch box special for $7.99 that comes with tons of stuff...next time!). The service is good too. Very friendly and accommodating (I kept asking for more kimchi and they kept giving it). You will not be disappointed. It IS worth the trip out to Burlington. Edit: The lunch box special is AMAZING. You get SO MUCH FOOD. SO much DELICIOUS food. Best $8 I have ever spent on lunch. It's worth double that.

not bad at all. at least once you tell the waitress that you can cook your own meat. it's a little pricey but really really good. had the beef shin, bibimbap and a kimchee pork stew. i'm taking stars off for no booze and the place could really use a good scrubbing.

We checked out New Jang Su on a whim after reading all the Yelp reviews. I must say we were very happy that we expanded outside of our normal circle of restaurants. We order the Short Rib and Squid/Pork Belly BBQ. Both were excellent. The meat/seafood was tender and fresh. The service was top notch and attentive. We are newbies to Korean BBQ, but not Korean food. The wait staff was very helpful in preparing the food table side as well as giving us direction in how to use the different accompaniments that came with the BBQ. The restaurant appeared relatively clean except the ceiling which obviously takes a beating from the smoke of the BBQ. Drink selection was limited to soda, water & tea. Overall a great experience and I will be back. I'd encourage anyone to give this little place a shot.

excellent bbq!! place is run down and you'll smell annoyingly bad and greasy or good (depending on what you like) afterwards but it is all worth it. if you happen to go for the the lunch box special...please don't eat it. the thought is there but it's not freshly made and it just sucks. just go for BBQ!! and try their pork (unmarinated). HEAVENLY GREASY!! service is warm and very korean ahjuma-ish.

Don't let the drab strip mall location and lackluster dining room fool you. The BBQ entrees here are very tasty and the service is very friendly. Get a seat at a grill table if possible (though strangely they cook the food in foil). You then wrap it in lettuce leaves and much away. Like the usual korean restaurants you get the numerous side dished of kimchi, seaweed salad, cucumber, and so on.This is a great alternative to the sea of chain restaurants and dumpy eateries in the area.

I must say the food here is superb, but the lousy service makes me only give the best tasting Korean BBQ a three star rating. It starts with the host. My gf didn't bring a jacket and gets cold all the time so she requested we sit away from the front door. The host/owner would not seat us at a table away from the door, stating the other tables were reserved. I can understand this would be a problem if the place were busy, but the restaurant was 1/2 full. I think he had a problem with my gf asking. (He was a bit old school male chauvinist) Now for the speed demon. The waitress must have thought we were training for a Korean food eating championship. She attempted to bring out all of our food before I even got to my second bite of Mandoo. After she attempted to cook the BBQ before I started on the Pajun, I had to speak up and ask her what the hurry was. She stopped for a few minutes and then tried to march us along again. What's going on? I have never felt so rushed and might I remind you the place was half dead. Maybe she had a hot date, I don't know. I do know I was there to dine and not eat at a fast food joint that had a line out the door. Now to the good part, the food. The appetizers were tasty. We had the fried dumplings, Mandoo, light and crisp, not the least bit oily and with a little of the spicy dipping sauce it was the perfect starter. The oyster Pajun was covered with vegetables, oysters, imitation crabmeat, and shrimp. The batter had a nice chew to it, but I'm used to a little more texture to my pancake. And if you want something really hot ask for the rice cake app, super spicy and delicious! The BBQ was simply amazing. We had the Kalbi and the "on the wall special" Squid and Pork Belly (spicy). By far the best marinades in and around Boston. I had the Ok Dol Bibimbop, that was bland and very forgettable. My gf had the Jap Chae bland and overcooked. And my friends shared a bowl of beef soup and noodles which they thought was good, but oddly indescribable. The tea is complementary, It tasted like green tea with sorghum which give the tea a nutty aroma and more body. I wanted to know the brand or what the tea was made from, but I didn't understand what the waitress was telling me. The bill came up to 100 bucks which is not bad for 4 people. Definitely go for the apps and BBQ, stay away from everything else, and cross your fingers for a good waitress, the other two seemed to be better at pacing the meal.

I thought I liked korean before, I even thought I had some pretty good korean prior but now I'm convinced the rest was crap, this is the real deal! A friend of mine who has been to Korea a few times brought me here for lunch and showed me the ropes and I'm hooked. I don't think I will ever hit the other places for korean again knowing that this place is by far so much better!! We started out with the Tuk Bok Ki which were sliced rice cakes and scallions stir-fried in a seasoned hot chili sauce, it was a great texture and though spicy it didn't burn your tounge off! We then had the Bul Go Ki (sliced prime rib) and Jeyook Yangnym Gui (pork) that were each cooked right at the BBQ at our table and it was all so amazing. We had the house tea with it and it was just such a nice flavor that complemented the meal. I will definately have to bring my husband back to experience this place and the lunch specials seemed pretty reasonable. I think if your kids are pretty open to trying new foods you could easily find things on the menu like the Bul Go Ki that would appeal to the little ones. The staff were super friendly and made recomendations as well so I'm sure they could help out no mater your taste needs!

This was my first experience with Korean food. I'm not completely sold on it yet, but my meal was decent and I will be back to try this place again sometime. I ventured here with a group from work on this particular day. Feeling the financial pinch of payday being too far off and my bank account balance too far dwindled, I opted to stick with the more cost-effective lunch specials rather than get any of the BBQ goodness. Maybe this was a mistake and I'd be writing a five star review if I had chosen differently. Anyways, I ordered the Kimchi Jige, which was a boiling hot (I mean, literally, it was boiling when the waitress set it down in front of me) pot full of kimchi and sliced pork in a spicy broth. It kind of reminded me of my friend's mom's kapusta, which is a Polish cabbage soup, just with way more spice. It was quite filling and a great deal at $6.99, but there was just no "wow" factor that warranted more than three stars. I don't think it's fully fair to rate the Korean BBQ restaurant when I haven't sampled the cuisine for which they are named, so I will give a preliminary three star rating and update when I've visited again.

was introduced to korean food here as I was dating a korean chick at the time. seems the food was much better back then or maybe since I've eaten at other korean places (including koreatown in NYC and a few outstanding places in DC) my palette has broadened. They got the grills at the tables here as well as the traditional plates like jap chae and soondubu. But really, better food can be had if you look. Just check my other reviews.

New Jang Su has taken over for my favorite Korean restaurant in the Boston area (very loosely defined). 35 minutes from Boston, which is a longer drive than Chung Ki Wa (~20 min), but I thought the quality of the sam gyup sal (pork) and kalbi was better, and worth the drive. Still not great Korean, but very good, and much much much better than the offerings in the city. As mentioned previously, no alcohol served.

Excellent food, top-class service. Very friendly, service-with-a-smile folks. The spicy, aromatic meats are grilled right at your table. Simply great place for winter dinners. Try: Miso soup, tempura, bibim bap, the free kimchi and of course, the chicken, seafood or beef barbecue
