+ large seating area + wifi + plugs scattered throughout + menu is diverse, there's something for everyone Came here a week before a big exam because I knew a regular coffee shop would have me starving through the hours. Although I stayed here roughly 4-5

A chain restaurant. Good food, no frills. I like to get the half and half with the turkey bacon avocado and fuji apple salad with an order of their mac 'n' cheese.

Short lines but food took forever. The soup had cooled off so much we asked for fresh bowls. (They were very accommodating.) Sandwiches were all bread and no protein, and the flatbread was burnt and tasteless. Am I the only one experiencing a steady decline of this chain?

I've got a love/hate relationship with Panera Bread in Coolidge Corner, Brookline. Or maybe it's more of a love/meh/hate relationship. The love: Sunny, roomy, free wifi. I can usually find a table with an outlet for my laptop. Good iced tea, good coffee. Good A/C on scorcher summer days (no A/C in my home so it's a welcome relief) and best, it's not TOO cold, know what I mean? The meh: Food prep, quality and ingredients is spotty. If you find something you like, stick to that. I like the Napa Chicken Salad sandwich and the Asian Chicken Salad. Other choices I have tried include the Fuji Apple Salad, Grilled Cheese, and Turkey Avocado sandwich. The Fuji Apple Salad is so weird -- the apples are dried apple chips, and I think the walnuts are candied. The grilled cheese -- a rare indulgence one looks forward to as being a warm, buttery, gooey, crispy-crusty comfort food -- was dry, on cool, dry, barely-toasted bread, and bland gelatinous cheese. Disappointing and a waste of the calories. The Turkey Sandwich was also dry and boring, and I usually love turkey & avocado together. They seem to have good bagels and baked goods but haven't tried those. The hate: - Those outlets? Not all of them work -- some of them are loosey-goosey when you stick your power plug into them. - The staff? Okay, this is a risk since my face is pictured right on this review, but a note to the young dark-skinned manager lady who wears the blue manager-looking shirt -- BE QUIET and tell your staff to BE QUIET. YOU ARE ALL TOO LOUD. I have had to move my table from the back (near the kitchen) several times because there is a great social ruckus always going on, caroling, strident oblivious voices yakking incessantly about everything from boyfriends to school to what-have-you, cackling and hooting with laughter. You can't even hear yourself think. it's too bad because "the back" would otherwise be the quieter place to work, situated as it is in a sort of separate alcove. -- Bathroom code? Ditch the bathroom code, it is entirely unnecessary. Go up and down the whole entire block, no one has a bathroom code. What's the point? All told, it's convenient for a cool place to work or write with a so-so sandwich and iced tea, it's never too crowded so they let you stay all day (despite signs suggesting a 2-hour limit) and I'll keep coming back. But sitting up front away from the ruckus, and sticking to that Asian Chicken salad.

I am going to go out and say that this is my favorite Panera in Boston so far. I know there really isn't a difference because if you shut your eyes and opened them up without looking to the windows you could really be in any Panera on Earth. I think I like the "sunroom" seating the best so I don't feel like I am eating in a dimly lit cave. Salads are average, soups are just as average so I have nothing more to add. I'm sure if you are going here you already know what's up!

I have to say that this is the worst Panera Bread I've been to. Overall I'm a fan of Panera, but today they have disappointed me. I ordered a $5 iced caramel latte and it was terrible. I couldn't taste any caramel at all it tasted like I was drinking milk, I still can't get the taste of it out of my mouth! When I asked the employee who made it if this is the correct drink she said she had put 6 squirts of Carmel in it but would add more, if I wanted. This drink already has 380 calories as it is I did not want her to add more I should have gone to Starbucks. I gave the drink to her and walked out but Its aggravating me so much that I had to write this review!

I love Panera! This one at Coolidge Corner in Brookline is not my favorite. It tends to be dirty. Often crowded because of location. Found a piece of chicken in my salad. I'm a vegetarian. And there was a dead mouse on the floor.

Solid Panera in Coolidge corner. Way better than the other Panera in Copley I previously reviewed that's for sure. This is a good sized location with lots of seating. My friend and I came here around late lunchtime after our barre class. There was a bit of a line but it moved fast enough. Wait time for our food also wasn't bad, less than 5 mins. My soup was not as hot as I would've liked but I still ate it. My flatbread was good. The most important thing to me is coffee and I am happy to say that it was fresh and delicious. Probably our new spot to go to after class to grab a bite to eat

DO NOT GET THE Mediterranean Chicken Flatbread Sandwich! I am not a food snob. For instance, I love Ellios pizza (the box kind). I also love Panera's Asiago Cheese bagels, but this flatbread sandwich was gross. I had no idea what I was eating, it tasted like caesar dressing gone bad. None of the ingredients were distinguishable... I just googled the flatbread in order to find out what I just attempted to eat. The hummus is a light brown blob, there was far too much tzatziki sauce (and it tasted like chalk), and the whole thing tasted like something I'd buy from the dollar menu. I also ordered the side Greek salad, also a no-go. The greens were browning, and although there was only two olives and one pepper, the entire thing tasted like the before mentioned ingredients. Finally, as part of the meal deal, I was supposed to be offered a choice of side (bread, apple, chips), instead I was given bread. Their bread is good, but as someone who was intentionally trying to keep the meal on the healthier side, I would have appreciated a choice. I feel badly giving this meal such a poor review. I love their cheese bagel and their soups are usually pretty decent as well. The location is convenient and they don't appear to suffer from lack of customers.

This Panera is in a great, central location, especially for meet-ups (though parking around Coolidge can sometimes be a pain). It's very spacious inside, but oftentimes busy so finding seating/outlets can sometimes be difficult. I personally don't mind Panera food in general, but admit that it's overpriced (can easily spend $15-20 for a meal for 1 with a "You Pick 2", drink, and scrumptious pastry). The food here is inconsistent in quality and accuracy, and takes FOREVER. Either way, it's a decent option for a meal, getting work done, or meeting up with people since Coolidge Corner lacks the space and venue for those things in general.

I just stopped here to grab take out. The manager and another girl were making my order. The girl making my order was coughing loudly the entire time. Ok. The kicker was that she and the manager were joking loudly about how she couldn't stop coughing. Germs all over the food. So disgusting and unprofessional. Last visit here. Gross.

In general, I am a fan of Panera and I will be back. HOWEVER, today I got my usual mediterranean veggie sandwich with chips. When I got my food, there was a fatty piece of what looked like chicken (maybe turkey?) on the plate, touching my sandwich. I'm a vegetarian, so this was not OK with me. I just think workers in food service really need to be aware of what they're doing. It now makes me think if the person making my sandwich ever changes their gloves or wipes down the cutting board all the sandwiches are made on. This experience will definitely make me vocalize how important it is to me that no meat products touch my food. To their credit, they fixed their mistake and apologized, which I definitely appreciate. I will be back, but please pay more attention.

I have to agree with the negative posts here. Coolidge Corner location has no sense of customer service or experience. The Founder and CEO of Panera even lives in Brookline with his family. (Come on people show some respect to the man and represent! ) Today I had angry man cashier get upset and try to stare me down over a question on an order for my 5 year old who also pondered why is angry man so angry? I had sandwich maker scold me for picking up my order cause he had mistakenly put the wrong order receipt on the wrong plate. He thought I was taking someone else's order?! Call the sandwich police next time! Either Panera at this location has a demoralized workforce which doesn't care about customers or management cannot hire right or just does not care. Or some toxic mixture of the above. Oh well, I will still go to other locations not just this one if I can avoid it.

I haven't been to panera in a long time and I decided to go today because I was craving the tomato mozzarella panini. When I placed my order the woman behind the counter failed to mention that they no longer make that in a panini and that it is now a flatbread sandwich. She simply put in my order as a flatbread even though I ordered a panini. It was watery and the flatbread was soggy and cold. I am very disappointed and will not be returning. It's not hard to put the same ingredients between some bread and toast it nicely instead of putting them in a cold, limp, soggy piece of flatbread. Terrible.

Panera is always a nice quick place to get soups, salads, sandwiches and baked goods. Their u pick 2 options give you a lot of different combinations from which to choose. It can get very crowded at times so be aware but a spot usually opens up pretty quickly. WiFi is always available so that is a huge plus and the speed is very good in relation to comparable businesses.

Awful. One counter person working the register and making espresso drinks...three people visible in the back talking to each other and not helping the 7 people lined up at register... They're also out of all the coffee except hazelnut and it's about 9 degrees out. Lame.

2.5 stars I have lost interest in Panera in general. It's food is not super healthy (packed with sodium and sugar) and there is little on the menu that has fresh veggies. A little tip: if you're concerned about nutrition value at all, take a look at their nutrition calculator on their website. It's super easy to use and you'd be surprised at which types of bread, for example, are healthier than others. This branch in particular is weird. The service is not great (I had the woman at the counter ask me three times what side I wanted and whether it was for here or to-go) and you now have to ask for the bathroom key/code ( a clear sign that vagabonds wander in and out...not that there's anything wrong with that, but when you got to go...)

Panera Bread in Coolidge Corner is a great place to enjoy some of the finest breads, bagels, muffins, soups, coffee and other delectables you'll find anywhere. I especially love their apple crunch muffins. The restaurant is also very well designed and laid out for a variety of cafe settings: summer on the enclosed "porch" with the foldaway windows, or winter in the comfy booths with lots of space for lots of people. I recently enjoyed a book discussion group meeting on the "porch," which provided a great Parisian cafe setting for our lively literary banter. The service is always friendly and prompt, and the entire place is always clean. Panera Bread is the place to be for all-around quality!

Thanks to Panera at Coolidge Corner, I can have the convenience of having a decent dinner or lunch right around the corner. Honestly I only come here when I'm depressed and am in need of a serious "pick me up from the dumps" meal. In other words, when I'm really stressed, it's exam season, or I am need of some food to motivate me. It's a little overpriced for a place with no service but whatever...again price has nothing to do with it as long as it's convenient and not ramen. It's always packed around 8pm...but that's probably because it's always exam season when I'm there. I love their ice green tea and broccoli cheddar soup. Frontega chicken and chipotle chicken panini are my favorites. Not too heavy, filling, and flavorful. Cleanliness is alright. They got good music playing..had Kina Grannis and David Choi on which is always a good thing :) Their fireplace is cool too.

I was surprised that Panera was not very crowded from about 9 - 11 am on a Monday morning. I ordered the pecan roll because it looked delicious but only found the top where the pecans were to be good. The rest of the roll was incredibly dry and flaky, not enjoyable. Then again, free wifi and I asked for a small cup for water. What more can I really ask for? There are outlets scattered about, but you have to look for them. Plus, a lot of people can take up a booth or a table of four by him/herself. I was one of them, but I didn't feel bad today since everyone seemed to be able to find a seat. There's also a great covered outdoor seating area at the front of the store.

Food was as good (never had a problem with Panera's food). During dinner with friends, I saw a mouse running between the tables. On my way out I let the lady at the register know that they have mice running around. The cashier responded that they know they have mice, this is how it is in Brookline, and I can take it up with the manager if I have a problem with that. Not sure if I want to go back to that place.

I really dislike the regular Cesar salad I just had at this location! The croutons almost broke a tooth and it just overall sucked. I'm so glad I ordered a small side order of the butternut ravioli because that was the only thing I could eat. The location itself is huge and pleasant but I didn't enjoy the food.

A few really nice employees here that I adore. The management is extremely unprofessional from my experience and I have seen them constantly belittling the staff and treating them poorly. Not a fan of this panera.

This is about the Coolidge Corner Branch as an exemplar in a trend in a Company where the owner, most likely a parvenu wants to become filthy rich and is worried about the pound of flesh he extracts from his customers. Afraid that a student using their spacious Coolidge Corner location for too long a time, the restrict wireless access to 1/2 hour during the daytime during the week. It would be better if they provided none. Even worse, they are so cheap and so afraid that somebody off the street might need a bathroom that they code the toilets with numbers which you have to key into from your receipt. The idea of offering free services in Coolidge Corner where is most needed is anathema to the greedy owner. Interestingly enough outside Brookline where their branch has the highest demand they do not enforce such rules because like myself people would likely boycott the place. Its only in Brookline where the demand is so high that they can afford to show their greedy heartless nature. The food is mediocre nothing special, the staff are polite and Professional. If you want to support a merchant that would make skinflint merchants like Shylock proud then Panera is your place.

As with any chain restaurant, you are fully aware of the quality prior to your purchase. With that being said, the food is no different than the Panera a few towns over. What makes this location amazing (and definitely better than the Commonwealth Ave., Fenway, and Huntington Ave locations) is the layout. In fact, I've walked to Brookline from Cambridge just so I can get a good seat! My favorite is the patio. Rain, sun, sleet, or snow, it's great to sit in the (heated) patio area. I love sitting there with my grub and laptop watching the snoody Brookline folk traverse the roads of Harvard Street with their over expensive (and calorie filled) frappuccino and boutique bag. The staff is super friendly, to the extent where I wonder if they're being fake. Regardless, they don't make me feel uncomfortable (except now they are getting pretty pushy with the Panera card, but it's their job I guess). The downfall: 30 minute time frame for the Internet between 11 (ish) and 2 (ish)... that's lame.

I LOVE this Panera bread cafe/restaurant! It has plenty of seating both indoor and outdoorish (the patio-like section has large windows that open in the summer time). Coffee and Ice Tea have free refills and the food is reasonably priced and oh so healthy! The staff are attentive to keeping the place clean both in the eating area as well as the bathrooms. My only issue is that for a new comer it can be a bit confusing as to how the ship is run. The line can be a bit confusing because there is only a short partition and the line can get quite long, especially during peak hours. The area to pick up is a walk further into the shop and is not very obvious. I do wish that they had more outlets, especially in the patio-like area. The booths that have outlets are grabbed extremely quickly so be sure to keep an eye out!

I'm a fan of Panera but this location is as busy as an outdoor market place in June. This panera location is a sort-of catch all for Coolidge Corner wanderers. It isn't the cleanest but you will see why. Beware, some people like to camp out at booths for hours.

This review is for the catering: It is awesome! Karen does such a great job and I've never had an issue with my order. I probably cater from this Panera 20+ times/year, and they never disappoint.

This location is a good size, but gets very crowded very quickly. This also seems to be THE place in Coolidge Corner to bring your children so not only is it crowded but it's loud. I sometimes go here early in the morning/afternoon to study since it's a little bigger than some of the other places in Cooldige, but headphones for this sort of thing are a must. Their menu is good and has a variety of offerings and if you get a mug of coffee you get free refills, which is nice. Overall a good quick chain but it definitely gets crowded so be prepared.

It's upsetting there is a big chain restaurant with bad unhealthy food in the middle of coolidge corner. The area would be much nicer if someone else took over.

  • Carissa S.

Ouch. Go home, Panera. You're drunk. I really hope, for the sake of everyone living close to this place, that I caught them on a once-in-a-lifetime afternoon. Because this was the biggest you-know-what show I've ever seen. From the terrible customer service (read: worker yelling at a customer because she asked him to slice her loaf of bread), to the man taking my order not knowing what salad I was talking about when it was on the sign next to him, to selling bagels they had already run out of, to giving food away to the wrong customers, to the non-existent manager, to the miserable food portions, this was a disaster. I've worked in a restaurant, so I know we all have off days, but part of being professional is pushing through the bad and getting your act together. This Panera could not do that for the several hours I sat and studied for class. I give one star for having good seating. But I really never want to go back. It would've been funny if we weren't paying customers : / Maybe I'll give them another chance......... maybe.

So agree with Shawn of Brookline review....have had HORRIBLE customer service experience here... Rude, Rude, Cashier who refused to let me order as he thought I was cutting the line...which was not the case. I then went to the mgr on duty, reported him and was met with a shrug off by the Mgr. who in his in-action, basically supported the rude employee. What ;swith that? You don't believe your customer as all in line were witnesses to the behavior of a Panera employee. That employee should have immediately been written up, and made to apologize - but nothing, yes, nothing happened. Yes, owner of Panera lives nearby and as such, this should be a flagship store in ALL ways; food, customer service etc. It is absolutly the opposite. When I think I know who the Mgr. is, they change...Why is that? And it's often, very often. Food, only ok, often you have to point out to the prep staff what they forgot to include in the sandwhich or salad and then you get attitude. If you want to be berated, ignored, insulted and demened-this is the place for you. I live in the immediate area and try to go in as little as possible. I don't need to spent my hard earned money here... very disappointing. Never mind 1/2 the time, tables are taken up for LONG periods of time with customers on their laptops..so even finding a table can be a major challenge. Why don't they enforce their stated policy for limiting time? Value for the money is not there and adding poor management oversight and rude service personnell...save your money, go elsewhere - you'll be happier in the end.

I chose this spot for lunch one Friday around 1:30 pm because I thought it would be faster than the other, more interesting options in the neighborhood. My mistake. It took nearly 1/2 an hour to get a chicken salad sandwich and an apple. Average sandwich at an above-average price, of course - it's Panera. Perhaps the bathroom code policy is understandable, but it's still annoying. How many people throw out their receipt as soon as they get it, only to discover that you can't use the restroom without it? It was also very difficult to find seating, despite how large the dining area is. Lots of hangers-on using the free Wi-fi, that had obviously been sitting there for HOURS. Annoying.

I stopped in to get my favorite bagels- Asiago Cheese. They were all out of them but a VERY nice Cashier, named Maryann, checked in the ovens, brought out a fresh batch, and did all this quickly. Kudos, and thanks Maryann!

I'm not a huge fan of Panera but I give it extra points for the free wi-fi, ample seating inside and the extra outdoor seating which is so nice in the summer. Cool down by sitting inside or in the shaded outdoor patio with an iced green tea. Yum.

Food is standard Panera. Some delicious soups, salads, coffees, etc. What I really like are the employees. I came here and had a big order. My cashier (I wish I remembered his name, I told the manager though, I think it was something long) got my entire order correct, and some of the ordered items had modifications. It all came out perfectly. I do wish Panera (as a company) didn't change the cinnamon chip scones though. I hate their new recipe :(

Tasty sandwiches, but rather expensive. The free wifi is great. The only thing that makes this 4 stars instead of 5 is the fact that the residents of Brookline like to bring their screaming kids here, ruining the ambience.

Although I love the food at Panera - and the fact that they supply all their nutritional info online - I don't love how fattening the majority of their food tends to be (including the salads!). Or how small their portion sizes have gotten, while the price has stayed the same. I had a $30 gift card and after buying lunch for my sister, husband and myself, have only $5 left. That seems like a lot of money for 3 small lunches that were each a "You Pick 2" - which is supposed to be a good deal! The 1/2 sandwiches definitely looked more like 1/4 sandwiches, although they were super tasty. My sis & I got the new Chicken Club Panini and Black Bean Soup. Both very tasty. One reason it's so quick is that they make the panini sandwiches ahead of time, and I guess reheat them quickly when orderd?? Thus, I would have had to wait 45 minutes to get one sans ham. A bit ridiculous to me, but whatevs. I also like that the "You Pick 2" comes with a side of bread (silly if you're getting a sandwich!), apple or chips. We got chips with one and when I asked to exchange it for an apple, I was informed they can't take any food back once it's gone over the counter - healthy codes, which is definitely nice, although wasteful! - but she gave me an apple also! This is the perfect place for a quick, tasty, comforting meal.

I visit the one in Brookline when I need to grab breakfast for my lab. Everyone loves their food. Also, the more you buy, the more you save. It's good quality, tasty and healthy(unless you are diving into the pastries). Hard to get a mixture like that ;) However, if you are indeed there to grab a lot of things in a very short time, beware because one of the servers gets really confused with the orders. So plan ahead and eat well. And, enjoy you carbs!

The clam chowder was like warm, clumpy, semi-thick milk in my mouth. Ew. On the bright side, the iced green tea was delicious. Also, when I was getting my food, the old man working there snapped at me *sad face*. "You wanna have it to go or not, lady!" I hate it when old people are cranky.

I love Panera Bread. Period. Everything, the bread, sandwiches, pastries, lattes and smoothies. This is where I eat when in Coolidge Corner. Well here, or Paris Crepes. Anyway, this location is fast and well stocked. you get a vibrating disc to hold onto that goes off when your food is ready. Plenty of seats, both booths and tables. And free wi-fi. This is a comfy spot to sit down and surf the web while enjoying a delicious snack or meal.

I really don't like this "quick and casual" food movement. It's basically slightly healthier fast food masked with trendier packaging and fanciful displays. There is one important distinction between Panera, and as an example, McDonald's (primary share-holders of Panera) which is that McDonald's actually tastes good. I only eat fast food when I have to, typically on a driving trip. And I stopped going to Panera years ago. There is a sticker indicating free wi-fi positioned prominently on Panera's window, so I came here looking for a place to get some work done with no distractions. After finding a cozy two-top in the back, I set to work. The first thing I did was slide my $8 cobb salad off to the side untouched. My textbooks looked more appetizing than lumps of dried chicken and sloppy tomatoes over generic shredded lettuce. I soon found myself in the productivity zone. Great sources for my essay were unearthed and key-strokes were flying with zest and vigor, but my wheels unexpectedly skidded to a stop. It was "peak hours" and internet access was shut off after 30 minutes That's fine, I'm not entitled to free, unlimited use, but I'd appreciate being informed of the time limit or being given the option to pay a fair sum to continue using it. The food and service were mediocre at best here. However, much was redeemed because of the insane MILF-count. It was bonkers. Gentleman, take note that this is where many, many attractive 30-somethings come at lunch time. Buy them and their children a round of apple-juice, and you're golden.

I love having a Panera in the neighborhood but this location is not a great example of the franchise. The restaurant itself is nice, outdoor seating is always a plus! But I've run across rude staff members and this location is ALWAYS out of something. The last few times I've gone they've been out of chicken noodle soup, baguettes, and mac and cheese. They also tend to forget things in your "to go" orders so always double check before you walk out.!

I went to Panera to meet a couple of friends to study and eat some lunch. I got there at 11:45am and got a coffee. 15 minutes later the manager came by and said "We may have to ask you to leave if it gets busy at our lunch rush" - we said "we'll be eating lunch here too" and he says "okay great, no problem". We stagger our lunches based on our hunger. The lunch rush comes and goes. At 2:49pm - right after the 3rd girl finished her lunch, the manager approaches everyone in one area who is using a laptop (even if they have coffee mugs in front of them), including us, and says "I see your done eating, well now I'm going to have to ask you to leave. Thanks". Three of us hadn't finished our coffee but felt like we needed to get out. Forget that we are paying customers and had bought 3 lunches and 3 coffees. Forget that there were AT LEAST 4 EMPTY TABLES IN OUR AREA. Forget that the food basically isn't very good and seems to give me a stomach ache everyone. Everyone in the area was very upset with the manager and I think he made a lot of unhappy customers. On the way out, we saw a ton of empty tables and nobody in line. I can understand if it is packed and people with lunches need to sit down, but there were open tables and it was a slow time when he asked at least 5 tables to leave. Very disappointed in this location.

Oh Panera. Your food and service are mediocre, your lines are always long, tables rarely cleaned, hot water thermos empty 80% of the time. Yet I come back for the free wifi, the free goodies from the MyPanera card, and having a place to sit relax and sit down. I accept you-- I've learned to deal. I don't come here for meals, I take an extra napkin to wipe my table off first... and I *never* come around during the chaos that is Sunday afternoon.

The manager kicked us out after we ate our lunch, and didn't even let us finish our coffee, even though there were several open tables. Panera is an establishment that is supposed to feel comfortable to linger and read a book, catch up with friends and use free wi-fi (why would they have a fireplace, if that wasn't the idea?). The manager was very rude and out of line, and lost a regular customer.

For sheer graciousness and summertime ambiance, this place is tops. A friend and I meet each other here and chat, or take off from there. The ambiance (and wi-fi also) and the lovely folks who dine here says much about the quality and value for the money. I'm most comfortable here, though I wish it were ALL vegan, not merely vegan-friendly!

Quality is similar to pretty much any other Panera you'd walk into, pretty much what you'd expect. The reason I'm giving three stars is because of the way I've been treated by management on several occasions. I 100% understand that on busy days patrons need to be respectful of other patrons and not park it at a table for hours and hours with a laptop, however I don't appreciate being rushed out or asked to leave 30 seconds after I've finished my sandwich. They definitely hustle you out, and more than once I feel that I've been targeted because I'm alone while tables that had been sitting longer with no food got to stay.

Seating is great but the last dozen times I went there the foods was terrible. They forget to add ingredients to sandwiches, or they run out and don't tell you. If I wanted bad cooking I can go to my sisters house. Hot food comes back cold and Big Love and I regularly got a wrong order. The last time I was there I threw away my Panera rewards card and we haven't been back since. Other locations have been better FYI

I had one of the most pathetic sandwiches yesterday (10/14/12). The new Roasted Turkey & Cranberry Panini. Paltry, flavorless and boring. It MAYBE had 3 small pieces of spinach, barely any meat and hardly any sauces. So I took it back and asked the person prepping food if this is what it was supposed to look like. She said yes. When I said "Really? For $9?" She shrugged and said "It's Panera". Why would I even consider going back there?

A really nice place to have meetings of 5-10 people - some large tables, chairs can be moved around. It's also strategically situated near Coolidge Corner, with large windows that makes it inviting for passers-by to come in and have a cup of coffee or a bagel or a pastry. The bagels I believe are better than the pastries, which run on the sweet side. I've always liked the soups better than the sandwiches as well. In response to other posters the portions can run smaller than expected given the price you pay.

A great addition to the community! Love the well-lit space and comfortable seating. Also, they have a nice selection of classical music playing in the background. The free wireless is very welcome and makes this a great place to check email and study. I am actually writing this review while sitting in the Panera now and it is quiet and not very crowded (however, this is a Friday around 11 AM). Coffee is decent and the vanilla chai sample they brought around while I was here was very tasty too. I really enjoyed the bacon, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich on three cheese bread. It was reasonably priced at around $3.50 but the portion was rather small. It was more like half a sandwich than a complete one. I was expecting something heartier as I was hoping for more of a brunch meal, but this would definitely work as a small breakfast. I will definitely be back. Totally worship the asiago cheese bagels...with real asiago on top. YUM! A couple negative points: There were large grounds floating in my coffee They need to be more conscientious in cleaning off the tables after people leave. I found a comfy booth but had to clear away someone else's napkins and straw wrappers. Nasty crums scattered on the floor. They need someone going around with a little sweeper. Re-Yelp: Panera management....could you please post a sign outside and in the store when the wireless is down. The free wifi is often my main reason for going to Panera and ordering some food. When the wifi is down it destroys my whole experience. I hate ordering, sitting down to eat, waiting for my laptop to boot up and then finding out that the wifi is down. This causes me a great deal of angst!! A simple sign would be most helpful and would keep customers from having this frustrating experience. Going to Panera, expecting a nice wifi experience and then having my time wasted kind of makes me hate Panera...despite the delish bagels and sandwiches.

I just got take-out, and after an unpleasant experience with a manager taking my order (shouldn't they be setting the example?), I find out that my "large" mac and cheese is only half full.... $8.00 for a half full mac and cheese?? I don't think so! It was the same amount as a small. When I got home and realized, I called and asked for the manager, I was put on hold....for an indefinite amount of time. Eventually I hung up. OH well, it's one meal. I even could have put up with the rude customer service, but I really do not appreciate being gyped on what is already overpriced pasta...

This place is a lot less crowded inside now that the weather is nice and people can go to the porch. I try not to stay for too long but sometimes I do bring my laptop and/or reading material. When it gets super busy, I leave. I love the spinach and artichoke souffle. Yum. One day they gave me a souffle with turkey. I'm a vegetarian and was really grossed out. I went back up to the counter and the girl was like what do you want me to do? I asked for the right one but had to take four cheese since the one I wanted was out. They offered no apology and acted like it was my fault. Now, I can't tell the souffles apart from the outside but maybe they should label them so accidents like that don't happen again. Now I'm always paranoid. I still go here because I like the laid back vibe (until it gets super busy), the wifi, and the coffee.

I really like Panera as a whole: good food, nice ambiance, free wifi, etc. However, I cannot in good conscious recommend this location. I dont know what it is, but I have never been here and gotten my order as I ordered it. My first attempt to order two bagels w/ cream cheese ended with the woman nearly burning the place down trying to toast it and e walking out 10 minutes later in frustration. The net time I ordered a chai and was given coffee. The next time I ordered chai and was given mocha. I was like WTF! How hard is it to hear the word chai? On another note, the manager was great and swift about making sure I was corrected as quickly as possible. Will I go back? Maybe if I'm not in a crunch for time and am really "gelling" and can stand to have my order messed up a couple times. Seeing as how that is not likely to happen, I'll probably patronize finagle or brugers from here on out. A shame though, considering the place coulda done it so much better.

Every time I eat lunch in this Panera, I vow it will be the last time. This location is disorganized, dirty, and always ridiculously crowded. Yes, they have free wi-fi, but good luck getting a table with all of the students who have set up camp there to sit for the entire day. This location is full of mother's with crying children and elderly people who are incapable of using their "indoor voices". All this, and I haven't even mentioned the food, which is abysmal. Somehow, this location is always out of at least one of the ingredients in whatever salad I order that day. How is that even possible? The salads are pretty tasteless, and nutritionally, the food here is a disaster. Whenever I check the nutritional info online I'm appalled. There are better places to eat in Coolidge Corner.

  • Epicurean G.

Given the other amazing options in Coolidge Corner (Zen Noodle! Upper Crust!), I would never choose to eat here on my own. Still, being dragged here by others, I must admit, it's pretty decent for a chain. I had a chicken salad which was passably good. Atmosphere was boring and bland, but clean and comfortable. Can you tell I hate chains? Service was fast food style--in method (you order and get your own food at the counter) and attitude. The person who took my order looked at me like I had two heads when I asked what kind of bread choices you get with your salad. Not many it turns out, but given that it is a *bakery* with a tons of types of bread, one might think asking is reasonable, no? And then the people swarming around clearing tables! I had a few bites of my salad left when I put down my fork briefly to take a sip of water. A server swooped in and tried to take my salad. I grabbed hold of it for dear life and told the man I was just not finished yet. Made me feel like I was being rushed out, even if it was not intentional. But if you persist on going to a fast food chain amidst a cornucopia of better options, this meets the bare minimum standards of even a food snob like me.

Extremely Disturbing! I am a Principal Assistant in one of the BPS schools in the district and we had a meeting with the princpal and staff. Principal asked me if I know any place that we can meet and I said Panera right away. Our experience was extremely bad. I've got some kind of chicken panini and chicken (pink, not even cooked) was horrible and I got 2 chicken panini with 2 soda and paid $20! If you love panini or sandwich Quiznos is way better. Do not spend your money with uncooked stuff. P.S: About WI-FI: There are lots of cafeteria around with free WI-FI. Panera is not the only one! Never ever going there again..

Dish: Hi.. do you think I can sub the turkey in the turkey artichoke sandwich for chicken instead? Cashier: (LOUD sigh) Um yeah.. that'll take an ADDITIONAL 20 minutes. Wait what? A half hour for a sandwich? I'm assuming with the emphasis on additional.. she meant chicken time plus sandwich time. Friends in the service industry.. both people who have worked at fast food joints and those who have worked at cafes with fresh ingredients.. is this really possible? Should this really be a possibility during dinner time? Their french onion soup is super salty but comes in a ginormous portion no matter what you order, if you're into that kind of thing. Their sandwiches are okay but on the whole are grossly overpriced for what you're getting. And really.. with the attitude? There are TONS of other places to go to before a movie or even if you're just in the area. Oh and you can use their free wi-fi network if you're anywhere near the place.

I'm becoming quite fond of Panera now that I've found out what I like. It becomes a much more enjoyable place once you go and know what you want. My absolute favorite goes to the pick two deal whatever that they have and I always get half a Sierra turkey sandwich with a cup of Baked Potato Soup. *drool* I can't lie, I had it twice yesterday and it was so good in the afternoon for lunch that I HAD to have it again for dinner. It's really spacious in there, though one downer for me is the fact that the elementary school is so close by and running, screaming children arguing in Hebrew while their parents ignore them is SO ANNOYING. Dude, please, I'm trying to read. Why don't you just go home? There's 5 parents, 15 kids and one cup of coffee. And of course, I'll never be able to find a spot to sit because the kids are climbing all over the seats! Sigh... Anyhow, I love this place and now that I know what I like, I keep coming back for more.

Nothing special about this place. The sandwich I had was incredibly lame. And don't even think about going there if you're vegetarian or vegan. It's not just the total lack of any vegan options, but they have honey and f&^$(#! glycerin (animal fat) in their bread!!

Oh hi Panera, Thank you for getting me hyped up on sodium and caffeine every weekend so I can get work done. Sorry for stealing the "money booth" with an electric plug for hours on end. I know it's against your suggested policy but I eat more food than all the AARP members and three year olds in here (although I love playing peek a boo with them for a quick study break). So I really think you should amend that policy. See you next weekend, The one with lots of books and a full cup of diet pepsi.

Top of the Panera Class. I feel almost wrong reviewing such a well known chain, but this location deserves all of the kudos in the world for being a marquee to the brand. This Panera has a good head start set in beautiful coolidge corner. Their once completely outdoor deck was revised to be a four season "sun room" which makes it amazingly versatile. It's easy to grab a seat in the summer and just get lost people watching while chowing down on any of their amazing sandwiches. The restaurant is extremely spacious with one of the friendliest and fastest Panera staffs you will find. Off peak hours I'll often grab a spot for a couple of hours to do my normal internetting while taking in a social scene and running into friends. Also try the breakfast because it is awesome!

Mediocre, well-priced food, but in this case I could care less. Key features here are: 1. Unlimited free wifi - don't even need to get codes every few hours 2. AWESOME front patio that is beautiful to sit in on a nice day. there's no outlets for laptops here, but nothing beats being able to enjoy a fall breeze and you read or sit around and chat 3. Lots of space to study, many many tables, lots of students around working, creates a good work environment

Occasional legions of tots and semi overly friendly grandmas aside, this Panera is relaxing. So relaxing in fact, that the guy next to me has been asleep, sans shoes for the past two plus hours in the "sun room" aka semi outdoor sitting area. The food... it's no culinary orgasm, but the food feels and tastes like real food. Aside from the over abundance of sugar in my frozen mocha and ice tea, I almost feel like I am having a balanced meal. I would avoid this place like the plague on the weekend but a sunny weekday here is just lovely. Pardon me as I return to surfing the web (yay free wifi) and listening to the elevator jazz humming in the background.

  • Courtney H.

The space is pleasant, which must be nice for people taking advantage of the free wi-fi. I really don't care for the food, however. The bread is too soft, even when toasted, which makes the sandwich kind of mushy. There are very few vegetarian options, and it's overpriced. I enjoyed my chai latte, but there was WAY too much ice. I'd probably come back for a drink or maybe a bowl of soup, but I'm done with their sandwiches.

Watertown Panera take note: 25 people in line does not, I repeat DOES NOT, equal a 20 minute wait to place your order. The Brookline location does pretty well tearing through lines. Wait, that sounded bad. But hey, maybe that's what makes them so speedy. Although ten customers ahead of me in line is usually enough to make me want to walk right back out the door, I really was craving an Asiago cheese bagel (the best thing to happen to breakfast since Blueberry Eggos BTW) and so I waited. I had my order in less than 5 minutes. So why only three stars? Well, I had to spend another 5 minutes trying to doctor my piss-poor Chai. Seriously, it was gross. It tasted like straight-up ginger syrup, doused in cream with a splash of cinnamon. Not good. Where's the cardamom? Where's the tasty deliciousness I have come to expect from Panera? Not in my chai. So at 1:52pm, after a valiant effort, I was forced to call time of death on my chai and toss it in the trash. Boo. I may be back for the Asiago, but I will get my chais elsewhere.

Came here during the blizzard because we lost power and I needed heat and internet. I love how Panera has started posting the calories of everything on their menu. I ordered a pumpkin muffle and an iced chai tea latte, both very good. I was most impressed by the way staff was handling the huge influx of customers during the storm. People were coming around and making sure customers weren't taking up an entire huge table to themselves. Even though they do have a time limit for how long you can have a table, staff was letting people stay especially if we shared tables and outlets with each other. They did a great job managing the crowd and I very much appreciate being able to be warm with internet access during the storm.

Yes, it's inexpensive. Yes, it's quick. Yes, they have free Wi-Fi. (Cool). Yes, there's nice atmosphere, and outdoor seating (a rarity on the East Coast). But, people, let me tell you, I make my own bread, and this bread, as far as homemade bread goes, is pretty lousy. It's not Wonder Bread or Generic bread, but it's too dense and it's really bland-tasting. ICK. The customer service is friendly, but I only go when dragged with coworkers.

I work in the neighborhood and am a frequent visitor. This review is primarily for the staff, which are beacons of light in the food service industry. This location is always MOBBED -- usually a toxic combination of exhausted mothers and squabbly toddlers, middle school children with too little money and too much time on their hands, and cranky eldery patrons with complicated orders. For almost two years, I've watched the staff here breeze through a long line of customers without batting an eyelash or rolling their eyes. They bake up melt-in-your-mouth shortbread cookies and dangerously delicious bread. They toast my yummy gingerbread bagel with a smile. Working in the food industry is incredibly taxing, and Coolidge Corner provides extra unwarranted drama. So Panera employees, I salute you. Thank you for all the gingerbread bagels. And shortbread cookies. And summer corn chowder. And . . .

It's easy, fast, quick, and TASTY! Plenty of variety from breakfast items to sandwiches/salads/soups/desserts. I've never had anything but a good experience at Panera. The Coolidge Corner location has a neat indoor/outdoor seating area. Lately I'm into the chicken bacon dijon...Yum.

I talk a lot of smack about chains, but I'm not a total snob. Panera is one of those places that never disappoints. I like the Coolidge Corner location because it is close to where I work, but also every time I've gone I've received quick, efficient, smiley service. I love the outdoor seating option (hint: go before 12:15 or after 2:00 to snag a seat) and, oh yeah, the food. I usually get a combo - I like the option to have a half sandwich with soup or salad, or soup with salad. Last time I was there I got the Asian Chicken salad which was the perfect portion with plentiful tender chicken breast slices and a light citrus-y dressing. If you just get a salad they automatically include a hunk of their signature baguette. Oh, yum. This place is named for their bread, as well it should be. You can even get bread as a side with a sandwich. And why not? Carbs rule. Viva Panera!

  • Grace S.

Pros: Healthy food. Plenty of cozy seating, a fireplace -- and just about the only place in Coolidge Corner where you can sit and hang for hours. Big points! Cons: Panera is, of course, a chain, and its convenience as a go-to spot can make it easy to ignore the more authenitc nooks and crannies of Coolidge Corner. Balance: EVEN BOTTOM LINE: I've appreciated Panera's foray into, say, the commercial wasteland that was BU West. But its presence in Coolidge Corner has implications as to the direction this neighborhood is moving in, and I'm not sure I like it.

I still cant decide if I like this place or not. The food's not bad but man everytime I go there the seats are all taken by arty farty i-think-i'm-important-sittin-here-on-my-laptop types. Get the hell up and give me a seat fools. The sandwich selection is pretty good and the cheddar broccoli soup makes me hard sometimes

As far as Paneras go, this location is an interesting one. All other things being equal (a fair supposition, Panera locations tend to be pretty consistent in my experience), I enjoy this location's open-air patio.

Surprisingly good place to study - plugs and wireless (I hear, I didn't get to try it) and no one bothers you too much. Serve yourself tea (republic brand teas) - they sometimes have sample. Could not resist the french toast bagel which was tasty and crisp especially with added honey walnut cream cheese. Salad had too much dressing but fresh. Ran out of fruit cups one weekend but you can get apple as a side for your salad. Lots of children! strollers, crying, not intimate, not neighborhood coffee shop, but they'll have a seat for you even on a weekend. Can be ghetto, noisy, loud teenagers and trash around. Only a good option if you live in the neighborhood.

We freaking love Panera! Recently we pulled out over $150 worth of Panera Bread gift certificates from our credit card rewards points balance. There is a brand new one right near my wife's school on Huntington Ave that I haven't been to yet. She says it's amazing. All the Panera's I have been to have been clean and the employees are always really nice. This one is right in one of our favorite area's down in Coolidge Corner. They have free Wi-Fi and a bunch of places to sit. The bread is always warm and fresh and the menu always has some new things to try. Panera is as good as it gets when it comes to bakery-cafes.

This is so sad, I used to really like Panera. Then one opens up two blocks from my house and they start sucking. They used to have a sandwich that I loved but they took it off the menu. I have been trying their other sandwiches in vain to find something else I like. Their meat is over processed, and the sandwiches have too much sauce. Their french onion soup is sub-par. The strawberry salad is fine, the only thing I like. The only pros I can see about Panera are the location, ample space for groups and the fact that the food is brought to you.

Panera is a welcome addition to any neighborhood. I'm glad to see that strip of Coolidge Corner alive again in an almost Truman Show meets Stepford Wives kind of way. There's Qdoba, a Citibank, and Panera. Go suburbia! Really, the launch of this store has been great. The management greets you at the door, offering menus, a sampling of the cranberry bagel bread, and will even open the door for the stroller-laden crowd. The You Pick Two is one of the best deals around - choose two from a selection of their soups, salads and sandwiches. The four-grain bagel with honey walnut cream cheese will cure even the worst of hangovers. This location offers table service (with no tips), relieving you of your busboy duties typically associated with other versions of the store. Free wireless, decent coffee (albeit Peet's is better), and good service makes me a happy customer. The outdoor seating will go unused for another ten months, but I think it's a nice addition to the block. Others will gripe about the chain-ification of our dear Coolidge Corner. So long as the Booksmith and Theater remain (as they will), I'm alright with it. ----------- REVISED I've become disenchanted with this place since my first review. Note to college students (from which I'm not far removed): You likely pay $40,000/year to enjoy the amenities of your college campus. For the love of god, stop crowding the Coolidge Panera with your MacBook power adaptors, sweatpants, and Econometrics textbooks while you people watch. Go to your on-campus library, your dorm room, etc. Everyone knows you aren't getting anything done - just sipping a $1.76 tea while the rest of us try to eat our You-Pick-Two in peace. Forced to take solace on the outdoor terrace (which, by all accounts, will be great for the summer), we sit and freeze, cursing the myth of the overworked college student while you gaze wistfully at the masses outside. Still, the cinnamon crunch bagel will appease even me, perhaps the grumpiest Panera customer.

I love Panera! The sandwiches here are so good. I usually do not branch out from the Sierra Turkey, which is my favorite, but every other sandwich I have had has been good. Although the last time I was there they did not give me a pickle, I was a little disappointed not gonna lie. The soups and salads are also delicious and the servings are surprisingly enormous. The French onion soup is my favorite, the bread bowl is huge. There is usually limited places to sit, every time I am here it is always filled with students studying. It is pretty reasonably priced and consistently good. I am a big fan!

This place gets two stars for it's location and the awesome shaded patio. It sucks for everything else. Brueggers has much better bagels and with Peet's and Starbucks within a block there's no reason anyone should be drink Panera's miserable excuse for coffee. Don't expect much in the way of customer service either. Panera must really be a terrible place to work if the only people they seem to be able to hire are complete dolts. This is the ONLY place I've ever received a tepid latte when I asked for hot. Then, when I expressed my dissatisfaction, the manager just said that's the way they are made here. Lastly, I don't care what sort of offers the Panera Card gets me. If I say that I don't want one, then don't you dare try to pass one off to me as you hand back my debit card. That's right, I'll just dump it in the half melted ice that holds those disgusting fruit cups by the register. In short, if you're looking for a nice place to sit (albeit with some obnoxious kids hanging around) for some awesome people watching, then go here. If you're looking for good food/coffee and decent customer service, then go elsewhere.

Panera food is so good; healthy tasting and a great value for the price. The Brookline location iis always clean, although usually pretty crowded with people that have been on their laptops for hours. Since they walled in the patio now there's more indoor seating, but they don't bring the food to your table anymore...?! rough. Still love it though. My fav. is the onion soup.

After a weekend of lying in bed with the cold from hell, this afternoon I decided that a brief stroll to Coolidge Corner could only be beneficial to my health. (I grew up listening to my mother tell me that I was never going to get better if I just laid around in bed. Apparently her words stuck.) I was a little parched on my walk back, and was about to stop in at CVS to grab some juice, when it came to me...Panera. Not only do they have yummy sandwiches and salads, but their lemonade is so delicious that it makes my toes curl. So I walked in, ordered my drink o'goodness, and waited by the pick-up counter. And waited. And just for a little change of pace, I waited some more. I'm convinced I would still be waiting there for my drink if I hadn't gotten the attention of one of the employees with my sickly voice. She was very apologetic, which I appreciated, but seriously...filling a cup with pre-made lemonade shouldn't take 5 minutes, even on the busiest of nights. But I can't deny my fondness for Panera and their thirst quenching lemonade. I'll be back.

  • Louise R.

Sigh...another establishment that cannot manage to make a proper latte. They need to hire a barista instead of having the counter staff make them. A latte should not be half foam - that is a latte/capuccino hybrid. I try not to give Starbucks all my coffe money, but I have to say they always get the drink right the first time. *UPDATE* Pete's, Japonaise Bakery and Temptations also make your coffe right.

I am having a love-hate relationship with Coolidge Panera. Love: -You Pick Two. So many delicious options on the menu, if I can pick two, that makes life so much better. -Cozy Seats (Hate: If you can find one after tripping over all the strollers) -Free Internet (Hate: For a half hour, especially if your food takes awhile) Also, yes I am on a laptop, yes I am a student, yes I am (trying) to get work done and escape the "innane" conversations of campus. I Apologize for taking up oxygen and a small corner table next to one of the (now elusive) plugs. However, I am actually purchasing a meal. On two of three past meals, within minutes of getting my food, the manager has come over to inform me that "[he] doesn't know how long I've been there, but [he] asks that I limit my time to one hour during peak times." a. It's 2:30pm, b. I haven't even made it halfway through my sandwich, c.The guy next to me is sitting alone, no food, no work, jamming out to his cassette tape (for real) and he gets no mention, d. Maybe if there weren't so many double strollers crowding the aisle, it wouldn't feel like peak hours. Yes, all these people have a right to be here, too. Just don't single me out because I am under the age of 30 and have a laptop. Trust me, with all the crying toddlers and loud college conversations, I promise I'll be out in under 59 minutes and 59 seconds.

Alright, so this may count as a guilty pleasure, but I am just a sucker for Panera Bread. Don't go in here expecting them to make you the best coffee drink or have amazing ambiance. But for a chain, Panera is pretty good at fitting into the neighborhood with a fireplace and free wireless internet and outdoor seating. And I could eat the Orchard Harvest Salad everyday.

I love Panera Bread. When I first moved to Boston I was depressed that the nearest Panera was in Everett. Then they opened one downtown and I was SO excited! But, while I worked near it, I sadly still did not live near enough to it. Then....they opened on in Coolidge Corner and I nearly wet myself. While I have yet to go to this particular location, I have stared longingly at it from afar. I love their freshly baked bread, and how you can always get a free sample when you get in. You can customize your meal in tons of different ways. While a little on the pricey side, to me, it's totally worth it. If it weren't for the fact I can barely make rent, I would go here every day.

Okay so I have reviewed my share of Panera Breads and keep coming back for one reason or another. Never will I visit this location!! It is an disorganized mess with a very scattered staff. I ordered and went to clain the order when I found it was taken by someone else. They don't point out that bagels have to be claimed at the front counter instead of the orders pickup counter. I stood around waiting for no reason and was told to go somewhere else. Besides the fact it is a mess of seats and a weird outdoor indoor setup that is strange. Never again I tell you....

Free internet. Fucking liebe ich this place. I don't care about the food one way or another. This is seriously the only place where you can just sit and chill after 10 pm in Coolidge Corner on a weekday. I could probably name at least more places than I have fingers on one hand that would still be open after 10 pm in Ann Arbor (a midwestern town). PB actually closes at 10 pm on weekdays. So, of course, I mean you can only sit and hang out in the outside seating area when the weather is nice because it would otherwise be too cold. BUT, if I were still in Ann Arbor, I would probably have ceased to breathe months ago. So, I suppose it's a good trade off. At least, I will always have Panera Bread.

AWESOME BAGUETTE!!!!!!- that being said I have to be in "the mood" to go for anything else. Sometimes I get the italian(even though there is roast beef on it - what up with that? BTW) and sometimes i get the roast beef. Nice place to go when $ is tight- no tip required but still nice seating and dish wear available.

It would be better if they were properly staffed. The line is always long and the dining area is always disgusting. Good place to sit if you need to get some work done - but there are no outlets for computers which is a challenge.

Panera rocks! -inexpensive, FRESH food that never disappoints... not just another chain -fast service; food delivered right to your table -cozy indoor seating and free WiFi make it a nice place to study (or just goof off with friends...take your pick) -lovely outdoor seating that's perfect for people-watching and enjoying the view of Coolidge Corner -all the moms take their cute babies into here! But, a warning: Check their menus first because not all the soups are the same day-to-day...Don't get disappointed like I did to learn that Baked Potato Soup is only served Mondays, Wednesdays, Saturdays and maybe Sundays!

As a graduate student who lives in the area and does not have the convenience of using the "campus libraries" that Matt C. refers to, I decided to use this Panera as a change of environment, yet my experience was anything but acceptable. During a recent Saturday, I was working on my laptop while eating my lunch. Yes, I actually purchased food and was not just mooching off of the free Wifi. I was approached by a manager who told me that since I was a student, I should limit my time in Panera to one hour so that I could "accommodate guests with small children". While I can understand that it is annoying for the families with small children who come into Panera on the weekends or to others who socially gather here and frequently observe students working here with our laptops and textbooks, perhaps this wouldn't be the case if Panera were not actively advertising on radio stations and their website to "come and stay the day" and use their free Wifi for "as long as you'd like". (Visit panerabread.com ) If you have a problem with the students at Panera, you have no one to blame but the public relations experts at Panera themselves. Maybe if they weren't actively advertising on several levels, we wouldn't think of the "brilliant" idea to come here and spend time there. UPDATED 7/25/08 Now that Panera has extended its one-hour policy to everyone by posting a sign in the entrance, they are moving up on my list and getting another start, but the seating issue still needs to be addressed.

I have found myself coming here a lot recently to come and sit and study. There isn't enough plugs for computers, but it forces me to find someone to talk to so I can ask them to plug in:) The pastries all look very good but they are dried out and hard from sitting uncovered all day. The food is basic good for a quick sandwich or salad. I enjoy the black bean soup. The service at the counter is friendly and pleasant. Overall this place is A-OKAY!

I am a big big fan of Panera. I've been going to Panera since my high school days in Ohio, so i was pretty stoked when one opened up in Coolidge Corner. The soups are why I come to Panera. I'm a pretty good cook, but sometimes you just have to let someone else do all the work. That's why I come here for my tomato soup fix. It's absolutely delicious and because I don't have an immersion blender, a lot more convenient than trying to make my own. I also think that the one thing the BU/Allston/Brookline area is missing are big coffee shops. When I say big, I don't mean they need to be mega marts, I just mean bigger than 7 tables. Like maybe 15? Gasp? I kind of love that the owners of this Panera found out about this lack because so many students and such were camping out for hours at a time. After my first few visits I discovered they have covered all the wall sockets. At first I was a little upset, then I figured out how ingenious that solution is! If people run out of battery life, they'll leave! Genius! Anyway: great soup. Comfy atmosphere. Oh, one downside as Julie T mentioned in her post: the annoying parents with their annoying children. If you know your kid isn't good at shutting up, you prob shouldn't be in a public place where people are obviously attempting to do quiet activities. Yeesh!

While we would always rather go to a small independent restaurant over a chain, we found ourselves at Panera the other day. I'm not going to review the entire experience here, since you can easily just go check it out yourself in any section of Boston. I am reviewing only one item here: baked potato soup. At first I was leery, being a big fan of a fluffy baked potato and not wanting a pureed version. But MAN was that some awesome soup. It was creamy, with just the right amount of thickness, large chunks of well-cooked potato, and little bacon pieces that lightly flavored the entire soup. There were also chives in there and I'm pretty sure sour cream was involved. I had to keep Aluminum Chef T. from stealing samples from my bowl. All in all, it was an extremely satisfying choice. If they have it, get it.

THAT sandwich. You know the one -- you've been pining for it ever since you moved, and nobody in your new neighborhood makes anything even close. For me, it was the transcendent Scarlet Ibis at Isaac's Deli in York, PA. Paired with Isaac's free pickled veggie bowl, it was my favorite meal for the four years I was at York College -- and other than an hour playing DDR at the local mall, the best reward I could promise myself for spending a few hours in the library studying on a day off. Panera Bread Co. hasn't filled the sandwich-shaped hole in my heart, but they've at least duct-taped a sheet of plastic to keep the draft out. A few times a week, I happily do the two-mile roundtrip from Allston for their Smoked Turkey Breast sandwich. High quality ingredients include chewy, crusty breads baked in-store, delicious deli meats, and gorgeous fresh lettuce. Prices aren't outrageous, and look better when you realize that what you pay for your sandwich also includes a bag of chips (or a baguette, or an apple) and a fat pickle spear on the side. (Drinks are extra, though, which is kind of a pain.) Portions are also good, and I like that they don't so over-stuff the sandwich that I can't taste anything but meat. I have had a few annoying order mix-ups, but nothing worse than tomatoes on my sandwich when I asked for none. On the whole, the combination of quality and speed generally impresses. The one real downside of this Panera, as many commenters have noted, is they get crowded -- like a line going out the door crowded. (And they don't refill the sample bowl enough, dammit!) It's comparable to any popular restaurant at lunchtime, so don't come during lunch rush if you don't have time to stand in line, or want to be sure of getting a place to sit. If you come during off-peak, you can usually head straight to the register and place an order without waiting at all. Can't comment on the quality of the waitstaff since I only do takeout, but I can't remember ever seeing someone in a green apron standing around picking their nose while trays were piling up waiting to go out to the dining area. Overall, a very solid pick if you're in the mood for a good sandwich -- just check your watch before you go.

I love Panera Bread!! Have frequented those in Waltham, Watertown and Burlington until this one opened in Coolidge Corner much closer to home. What I especially love about this one is that they DELIVER the food to your table!!! Great when your with a group of friends and don't have to juggle trays back to your table. The food is alway super and this one seems more spacious in terms of table layout.

I like this Panera mainly because of its seating capacity. I like how they have patio seating with the windows opening onto Harvard Street. One minor inconvenience, to which I also contribute, is the fact that people never leave. Also, I think due to the sheer size of the place and the volume of patrons, it's just not as clean as other Panera locations I have been to. Otherwise, solid food and a good place to get your studying on!

This is the best fast food chain. Mostly bakery-cafe-deli like Au Bon Pain but with more food inspiration and proper seating and decor. I even like it better than Cozi--the closest in concept because the staff, in my experience, is better versed on processes and procedures, the food seems fresher and Cozi shreds the lettuce. I hate shredded lettuce. Panera just needs to offer Dijon type mustard, their honey or hot mustard just doesn't work for me in my sandwich.

Nice setting, apart from the ambient lite "jazz." But nice seating, comfortable, free wifi (though on my last visit they said it was limited to 30 minutes during peak hours, and they cut me off after 30 min., even though it wasn't stated peak hours; still, a minor complaint; I can't fault them for limiting free wifi access.) However, the food is JUST AWFUL. AWFUL. It has pretentions to being excellent, but it's not even mediocre. The pastries manage to be simulaneously greasy and dry, the bread is virtually inedible. The coffee is quite bad -- and they share flavored-coffee equipment with non-flavored equipment, a cardinal error -- though I've had worse. If the food were half as good as they pretend it is, I'd buy it. Instead, I buy their bad coffee, bring my own pastry, and use it as a work space.

I went to Panera for the first time when they opened in Coolidge Corner. It was surprisingly very good. I didn't have high expectations, admittedly, but I really enjoyed them. I love that they give you chips, a piece of bread, or an apple with pretty much anything you get. Sometimes they don't ask you which you want, so you have to make sure to ask. Even when you specifically ask for it, I've had times where I still got chips instead of an apple. Other than that, the food is reasonably priced and the sandwiches are good. I, also, enjoyed the Cheddar Broccoli soup.

I am addicted to their soups! It doesn't matter what I get, it it always delicious. And they fill you up for hours during which you can drink and fill up on the one cup of coffee you order with your soup. Awesome for cold winter afternoons when you need to spend a couple of hours working on something and staying home just does not spell out 'productive'.

Nice place. Decent food. Unfortunately, the GM decided to cover up almost all the plugs making it difficult to use the free Wifi. Also, there were no signs posted of the cover-up. I will have to look elsewhere for a place to get a quick bite/coffee and get some work done.

ugh my experiences to-date have made me want to ban panera for life. 1. they are always super-crowded. i know this is not their fault, but the seating situation is out of control. perhaps it will be better in the summer when the outdoor seating opens up, but until then, the best strategy is to have one person order and the other circle around the restaurant vulture-style until you can scoop up any seating arrangement you can haphazardly manage to piece together. i have better luck finding seating at the closet-sized paris creperie! 2. tonight i ordered a vanilla latte with skim milk and no-foam. they gave me a number and told me to put it at my table and someone would bring it by. about 20 minutes later i meander up to the coffee bar to find my drink (which had been sitting there for god knows how long). AND, it was not even close to my drink. it was a latte with regular milk and chocolate syrup, to-go. what??? i told the guy making the drinks and he showed me the receipt, which was clearly wrong. he offered to make it over, which i appreciated -- but then he informed me that he was out of skim milk. in fact, he was completely out of milk except for the sad dregs of a gallon of 2%. reluctantly, i said it was okay, and he began to remake my drink. he put the vanilla syrup IN the milk and then steamed it (do they usually do that? i feel like at starbucks they put the syrup in the cup, not the milk), and the result was some absolutely disgusting concoction. Upon realizing he filled my cup with about 1/2 foam, he said, "oh, man i gotta start paying attention!" and started scooping it off. impatient, i said, "don't worry about it" and took the latte back to my seat. 3. on their signs they promise "free wi-fi and a comfortable place to use it!" pfft. the wireless wasn't working, and the manager said it hadn't been working all day, but that he'd "called the help desk" and that it would "hopefully be working again soon." not only that, but panera is either out of range or in an awkward position in relation to the free Brookline wireless (which is somehow perfectly functional at nearby Peet's, and which makes Panera the ultimately useless place to do any work/studying). 4. their food itself is okay. i think the half-and-half meal is a good idea and a relatively good deal, but holy crap -- don't read the nutrition facts unless you want to hate yourself for the rest of the year. the only thing that bumped this review up from 1 to 2 stars is the idealistic hope that this place will be more enjoyable in the summer when the outdoor seating opens up, and that when available, the indoor seating is nice (fireplaces, big comfy chairs, etc). but if you just want a place to grab a latte, chill and use the internet, don't bother.
