I have been going to this place since I was a sapling, so it's somewhere I visit whenever I'm on the Cape. The lobster rolls are great!

Awesome...our favorite go-to place each weekend. Try the yellow fin tuna...amazing! Anything fried is very light which makes it great and not too much. Fried clams are delicious!

Overpriced for just okay lobster 19.99 for 1 1/4 pounder with corn and mini potatoe salad. At least it comes with real melted butter. Nice location though. You can watch kayakers.

Very good, though a bit on the high side, lobster roll. A little mayo used as a binder but not swimming in it, no off flavors, no unwelcome surprises. If I was in the area again I wouldn't hesitate to stop back in! It's everything you should expect from a clam shack, nothing more and nothing less.

Good food brought down by the poor servers attitude. She could of handled herself better. I wish I could take my tip back I gave her way to much. And that's not even the whole story......

My wife & I were on the Cape enjoying the perfect weather and decided to try a new seafood place. We found The Lobster Trap on Yelp & gave it a try. She had the lobster roll and I the fish & chips. We each had a beer. Restaurant itself was 1/3 full at 4:30pm but quickly filled up and had a line as we left. The food was brought out quickly and was tasty. Lobster roll wasn't overly covered in mayo. Fish was large & crisp with a light batter. Our only issue was the excessively loud speaker blaring out order numbers coming from the take out/market area. I mean LOUD! The bar isn't that big and the speaker was right above us. Didnt affect the food, which was good bit it did detract from the overall experience. We noticed a few other diners experiencing the same thing. Turning down the volume on the speaker would be a big help!

The lobster trap is a favorite if my future in-laws who live about a minute from the place. It's a super casual, order up front, get your number, food comes out on a tray, open seating kinda place. There are always a lot of families and the atmosphere is usually one of pure joy. They have a pretty extensive seafood menu. The prices are high, as to be expected, but the quality is hit or miss. The lobster roll was way too mayonnaise-y for my liking and the actual roll just fell apart into a gooey mess. It also lacked any discernible seasoning. The quality of the seafood is unimpeachable, which is why I am so baffled by the need to fry EVERYTHING. Fried scallops, clams, fish, shrimp. My arteries clog just thinking about it and I always leave wishing I hadn't eat all that friedness. That being said they do fry well, nothing is oil logged and it does taste good. But I would enjoy seeing more inventive, non fried items on the menu. Their clam chowder is dope. This is a fine place for dinner every once and a while, great for families and groups, and awesome if you just can't get enough fried goodness in your life.

I have pretty much grown up with the lobster trap so I have fond feelings for this place. It's uber casual but if you want to wear a dress and get all swanky go ahead, I can promise you no one will care. It also can get pretttay prettttayyy loud on weekend nights. People usually come in HUGE crowds and seating is sometimes difficult. They have some picnic tables outside and below near the water and rocks. Otherwise, you've gotta wait for a table to clear. They didn't always have a bar, but now they do (hooray?) and a RAW bar (HOORAY) since I love oysters this is cool. They've got a pretty lousy wine selection and beer options are the standards you'd find in a boston casual restaurant. I usually get water with lemons anyways. The food...omg. sometimes I get lobster trap cravings and perhaps that is the fat kid inside of me bursting to take over my health regime, but nonetheless, I long for and yearn for their fish and chips/chicken fingers and fries. I can't say I've been too adventurous with their menu, but what I stick with I LOVE. I'm happy everytime. The seafood platter is fried food heaven and everytime I've sampled off of this plate, I wonder about why I didn't get it (and then I remember ...it's huge). Not as huge as it used to be but unless youre a ravenous sea eating creatures monster who hasn't eaten in a week, youre going to have some leftovers. Really, it's the perfect amount of batter on the seafood and chicken which make it perfect pour moi. Last time I went I got the scrod or baked haddock or something (the lighter version of fish and chips) and it was so yummy. Some buttered crumbs on top, a baked potato on the side and some roasted veggies....awesome. The only annoying thing I find is when they call out your name for you to come pick up your food, they seem to assume we are all 90 and mildly deaf because they literally BLAST your name multiple times. I really despise it. Also, they have these cute waitress/busser type girls who will clear your table now when youre done. They didn't have this before (the table clearing that is, the girls in booty huggin short shorts they always had;) (fyi, there's a little ice cream stop nearby called The Whistle Stop that makes their own ice cream...so if you got room for it go it's just so convenient!)

No one makes clam chowders quite like the New Englanders...and no New Englander makes it quite like Lobster Trap. After having clam chowder the day before in Rockport, I did not think anyone could have made it any better until I tasted the clam chowder at the Lobster Trap. I nearly fell to my knees and begging for more after tasting some. The calamari flavor was so intense that I could not stop after one. Even my wife's vegetarian dish was made to perfection. Overall, I think anything you try here is simply amazing.

Stopped at this place just after going over the bridge on our way to the cape. While on the cape we are always on the prowl for a new fried seafood place. It was pretty big inside and fit a good number of people. They offered valet parking which was helpful especially with the large number of people arriving on a saturday at lunch. The food came quickly. It was freshly prepared and hot when we got it. I got a Stuffed quahog and lobster roll. The stuffed quahog was good, a little expensive but not bad. The lobster roll was also good. The roll that came with the lobster roll was to much. It was too big, the bread/lobster balance was not achieved here and in turn the bread took away from the sandwich. The french fries were lousy. A garden variety frozen coated fry that took away from the meal. Someone in our party had the calamari and someone else had scallops, both were very overcooked and they were accompanied with the lousy fries. Overall the food was just OK, there are certainly better places for seafood on the cape and next year we will try to find another one. (advice....work on the fries and this bread thing, all of the dishes with bread had this too big roll, when we asked about it someone said "it's their thing", unfortunately it wasn't my thing.) The food was expensive but this is what you pay on the cape, we were just hoping with the cost of the food, the quality of the food would be better.

I live close by and the prices have sky rocketed over the past 2-3 years. Got broiled scrod on a pickup order and came to $20! Fish was fine but the potatoes and veggies were subpar. They have added to the place but the parking lot is still a disaster. Go to Seafood Sams.

(Please read review in southern accent, for I've been watching Friday Night LIghts all day) WHOA-NELLY is this place good. I got a pound of wild jumbo-shrimp, a quart a clam chowder and two swordfish steaks for bout $35 bucks. Let them shrimp soak in sum butter and garlic, tossed them ona grill for a few minutes and DAMN them boys were good. Marinated them steaks with some margarita mix (don't worry bout that one, its good, just try it). The chowder was sweet and thick (none of them thin shit, if it ain't loaded in cream it ain't for me). Anyhoo, I had me a real good time with that there seafood. BOOYAH

I think this is one of the best clam shacks/seafood shanties/lobster huts on the Cape, which, if you know me and my fondness and dedication to such haunts, is saying quite a bit! It's in a great location on a cove on Buzzard's Bay with a screened in deck to keep the mosquitoes at bay. The decor is sort of 70s-ish nautical, but nicer than that sounds, I think because it's cleaner and in better condition than you might expect. The prices are right, the lobster are incredibly fresh and delicious, and the fried seafood is also great. Very friendly counter service, fast and efficient, serves beer and wine. They also cater, in case you are throwing a big clambake, and they have a great fish market if you are looking to pick up some lobsters, clams or fish to cook up at home, including lots of great local fish and shellfish options, which is nice so you can support the local economy. You can also have them cook the lobsters for you if you want to avoid having to clean the kitchen afterward but want to get a big order to go and eat them on the back porch at home! It makes me so happy just thinking about it that I think I might have to head there this weekend!

On our last night in Cataumet, we decided to have a clam shack dinner to celebrate. Unfortunately, our hopes were dashed by a tasteless experience at the Lobster trap. We arrived at 745 to a short line but we waited over 20 min for our number to be called. My whole belly clam plate was just ok. Well fried but pretty tasteless. The tartar sauce is prepackaged Ken's brand. The steamed clams were much better., A friend had fish and chips and reported it tasted off and was soggy because of the overly thick breading. My wife had fried calamari that was totally overwhelmed by the thick breading . The fries were the only saving grace. For a place that does such big biz during the summer, I was extremely disappointed.

We vacationed on the Cape this summer and an old friend said "meet me at the Lobster Trap." We had some of the best lobster rolls I've had. Of course it had been 10 years since I had been back to the Cape, but they were good. The staff up front isn't the best in the happy friendly dept but then again what college kid is working the summer job at the beach??!! I'd be so happy working at the beach, but that's another story.

The best lobster/seafood shack I have been to,Good prices, portions. The lobster bucket is a great deal, lobster, steamers, corn cob and sausage were all great. Some of the best clam chowder I have had.

The BF and I came here the other day after spending the day at Marconi Beach. The set-up includes placing your order at the main counter and waiting for your order number to be called over the loudspeaker. While we waited, we were able to grab beers from the bar and find a seat in their large dining room. Although I've been to the fish shop next door, I've never experienced the restaurant...and I wasn't disappointed! The ambiance is laid back and fun. We shared steamers to start, and they were deliciously fresh. My boyfriend had the Cape Cod Baked Scrod, which includes "day boat, hook-caught fish, baked in seasoned crumbs with roasted potatoes and summer slaw " ($15.99). We liked how they seemed to bake the fish so simply, with butter and maybe a couple seasonings. For my dinner, I had the Whole-Belly Clam Roll with chips and a pickle ($14.99). The bread for my roll was so good-- a butter and grilled Brioche roll...Mmmm. I love how the seafood here is fresh and tastes like the ocean. I left satisfied and happy. :)

Yes, the Lobster Trap is s a very casual seafood spot, but it's so very much better than just a clam shack. The staff was friendly and helpful and the restaurant clean and inviting, but it was the food that will have us coming back. The fried clams were tender and perfectly fried as were the fish and chips. Yes, prices are a bit high, but there are also several inexpensive lunch options available if you visit before 2PM.

Great food, great view, but most importantly great staff. The bartenders Sherry and Jenna are the best. This is much more than the old clam shack food. I have gone there since I was a kid, but am there all the time now with the new bar. I can't imagine some of the comments I see here as the service and management are tops.

We go to the cape for summer vacation every year for 30+ years and are major fan of steamer clams w/belly and all! We were heading out to wellfleet and stopped in Bourne to tried the Lobster trap based on several 2011 travel guide books to see if it's a place to enjoy fried clams. The dining room ambiance was classic cape cod-looks good to us. We ordered the said fried clams and clam chowder; first up was the clam chowder, it was quite good, proper level of consistency good clam flavor broth, right amount of clam and potatoes. We were excited after the chowder experience but we were so crushed with the fried clams. The quantity was OK, the clams were very small and sadly, overcooked. They were on the brittle side of done-ness. The small size caused the whole clam experience closer to clam strip meal. Since we were there specifically for the cape cod fried clam, we don't envision a return visit.

I love this place. Something for all fish lovers. They have fantastic fried menu but also gourmet upscale choices as well. Highly skilled chef that you wouldn't expect at "fish shack". I've been coming here for 8 years and just gets better and better. Great fish market. Fab clam chowder, they even sell just the base to make it yourself at home. They just did a huge renovation inside and out -looks great. Between eat in, take out or fish market I probably eat here at least 50x a year. I'm a fish lover. Doesn't get any better than this. My favorites: Fish sandwich (huge and fresh), steak tips (yes believe it or not the fish joint has the best tips..), Tuna tartare, Fish Tacos, grilled swordfish and most of the unique chef/daily specials. YUM, YUM.

Always a great casual place for everyone. Good fresh food. Great for kids too. We go all the time in the summer and have lobsters shipped to us at our Florida home in the winter. They arrive cold and kicking!!!!!!

Our very favorite seafood restaurant on the Cape. The opposite of fancy- a typical clam shack. This place us all about the food. Terrific fried seafood!

Let me start off by saying that I might be a bit biased; pretty much every weekend trip I take to the Cape involves a stop at the Lobster Trap once. Except for the long weekends, when it might be twice. :) A typical Lobster Trap dinner usually involves the backed scrod and the fried clam strips - when you get your faves, you tend to stick with them, and neither has disappointed so far. I'll also personally vouch for the lobster (great), and the clam chowder (generally good). The baked scallops were OK, and the fish and chips was solid. Overall, they do dinner well! (The Lobster Trap operates in conjunction with a fish market, located next door; the food has always been fresh when I've gone.) They've also put in a raw bar - to which I'm pretty much addicted - and a beer and wine bar, which has an admittedly pedestrian selection. Then again, we're talking about a seafood shack here. A better wine selection would be completely out-of-character. Speaking of seafood shacks, the seating area is essentially an enclosed deck; after Labor Day, it can get chilly in the evenings, so consider bringing a sweatshirt. The prices are generally fair, and the atmosphere is relaxed. The restaurant is kid-friendly, but large groups may have trouble seating, as the place can pack up - especially on a Saturday evening in summer. The staff advises that you secure seating first, and then order (kudos to them for acknowledging the issue and being upfront about it).

My wife and I shared a large order of fried clams and a small order of fries. We were impressed by the quality of the food, the cleanliness of both the restaurant and the fish market and the helpful staff.

We were looking for an authentic lobster shack while staying on the cape. After reading several of the reviews on here it seemed a safe bet to try the lobster Trap. Nothing like double lobsters and corn on the cob via paper plates and plastic bibs. Gotta love it!! If the quality of the lobster and clam strips was typical then this is a safe bet in my book...

ahh a salty sandy new england weekend-- windy grey beach time, windy dirt roads propped up by rickety picket fences and foliage, sailboats bobbing at bay and patiently waiting for better weather, lobster rolls, boat houses, bbqs. in an effort to make the weekend last as long as possible we stopped off for stuffed quahogs, baked scallops and clam chowder. it was pretty lucky finding lobster trap tucked away in buzzard's bay. next time i'm bringing home a couple of lobsters.

Best clam chowder I have ever had. Really fresh and very creamy. Pure delight. Entree was swordfish with ravioli, pesto and dried tomatoes. All of the flavors were balanced and complimentary. Swordfish was fresh and nicely prepared. Ravioli was amazingly good. Spending hard earned money on dining out, sometimes you hope to be wowed with your food. Tonight was one of those nights for me. Highly recommend.

Holy jebus! Food: 5 Service: 5 For appetizer we ordered mussels and seafood stew. DELICIOUS. Mussels were in this amazing buttery sauce, seafood stew was creamy. For main course we ordered the lobster rolls and fried seafood platter. Lobster roll taste was 4.5/5 but it was STUFFED, with amazing fries. Seafood platter had a lot of scallops, very good. Our server Tess she was amazing. However the front desk was a little scrambled.

Disappointing. Been here many times over the years and I must say the food and the service has gone downhill in a big way. The only that has gone up is the prices! Overpriced seafood that is under quality is a sure way to loose your customers. I grew up on Cape Cod and I have spent most my life there. This WAS a favorite spot. I had a previous bad visit earlier in the year and I let it go because everyone can have a bad day. After this over cooked, flavorless meal with poor service I had no choice but to post a review that was poor. I had scallops that were overcooked and tough. The lobster roll was not fresh and the steamed clams had no flavor at all. The only thing that was pretty good was the clam chowder. The seafood stew was terrible. The service was slow and the waitress doesn't even realize she talks over you as your trying to order. She did it to us and then we listen to her do it to the table in front of us AND the table behind us. TERRIBLE. Super SLOW The worst part is ALL of the prices are stupid high. They were all raised. We won't be back and that's a shame...we used to love to eat here.

I have been coming to lobster trap for years and always loved it. That being said, the service has taken a serious nosedive as has the food. Waited forever for our order only to have my food arrive cold. Sent it back and waited a very long time only to have it come back totally different and downright bad. The waitress was very indifferent and on top of all of this we waited so long for our check that we had to go to the counter, where we also waited a very long time, and ended up going back to the table and waiting. I'm hoping this place turns it around, I have always loved it and was sad to have such a negative experience after many good ones. I think switching over to full service instead of ordering at the counter maybe was a bad move, was way better before.

Apparently this is THE place to see and be seen on the upper cape. Aside from the $500 dollar penny loafers everywhere I look, I'm in love. This is my new and most favorite bar. The kind of bar I wish I lived next to. So I could visit weekly (read: daily). And the menu is perfectly New England with a few pretentious items to please the loafer wearing summer people.

Huge portion sizes. Of the fried clam bellies, fried shrimp and fried scallops, the scallops were my favorite but all three were excellent. Even the French fries were way better than most fries. Outdoor seating right over the canal is a nice treat when eating also. Bring friends (preferably your smallest friends that can't eat much) and share the dishes. It's the best way to try everything.

Go at 4:30 to 5 PM before the dinner rush and get the lobster roll, A nice warm brioche, not too uch mayonaise and frankly, enough lobster for two meals.

Driven by this place for years, noticed in the last 5 years or so the place has gotten real busy. Decided to check it out with the family, and have to say it was great. Sat out on the patio and had a very nice and attentive waitress. The food was excellent and actually hung out for awhile for some drinks. The prices were reasonable....looking forward to going back soon.

We were very very hungry. First time on the Cape, and our time was unfortunately very limited, so we wanted to go somewhere we could get all the local dishes I'd been hearing about: clam chowder, lobster roll, stuffed quahogs. I hurriedly consulted Yelp, and found this place. Turned out to be a great choice! The restaurant is in a very cool location, looks right out onto the water. Has some kind of store attached where I'm assuming you can buy fresh caught seafood, but we didn't go in. We were there on a mission, to get food in our bellies. Service was pretty good, they knew we were from out of town and were very informative and friendly. They play country music loudly throughout the place, but oh well. A minor flaw. ;) Our food came out fast. My husband and I ordered all the things we wanted to try and just split everything. The lobster roll was gigantic, very light on the mayo, and had giant pieces of lobster meat. The bun was toasted perfectly. And it was definitely big enough to share, no way I could have eaten that by myself. So so good. And the fries on the side were really great too. And the clam chowder! Amazing. I actually put some of the hunks of lobster falling out of my sandwich in my chowder. Made it even better! But it was the perfect texture, not too thick or too thin, and great ratio of potatoes and clams. The only thing I was a little disappointed in and would maybe try elsewhere was the stuffed quahog. It was good, but it just tasted like stove top stuffing to me. It's my first time eating one, so maybe that's what it's supposed to be like, but it wasn't really anything special. Still, not too bad. I got iced tea everywhere we went all weekend long (it's my summer drink of choice), and it kept getting better and better at every restaurant. Their cocktails are pretty good too. Got something with coconut rum, and it was fantastic! Free valet parking was nice as it was very busy!

The food was great both times we were here, but the service was mixed and at times pretty bad and sloppy. The one waitress kept forgetting us and forgot several things from our drink order. But the second time we were there the service was great. Well say the hostesses at the entrance could look a bit more happy to see customers and not hang about looking bored and talking to their friends. But despite the glitches I really recommend the place. I recommend the lobster roll and clam chowder.

I've been going to The Lobster Trap for years. Recent changes to this restaurants menu, process and look and feel are great but last night was very disappointing. The usually great clam chowder was filled with sand. Apparently someone forgot to wash the clams. But I was most disappointed with my crab cake order. Usually an order of crab cakes comes with 2 crab cakes... My order came with one crab cake. The presentation was very nice. Guacamole was under the crab cake and chutney on top of the crab cake. The crab cake was on the small side and the ratio of crab to filling was shocking. Maybe 20 percent crab. That is a good guess as I only spotted one small piece of crab on one of my last bites. For 12 dollars I truly believe there should have been 2 crab cakes or at least one with more crab then cake.

The Lobster Trap is the first place I went to eat at Cape Cod---wasn't completely satisfied but wasn't completely disappointed either. The overall ambiance of the place is great. You can tell its not too stiff and fancy although they have valet parking and a slightly more expensive menu but its expected for a seafood restaurant. The waitress we had was very nice and accomodating. The interior was casual and welcoming. There's a nice bar in the back and a great view to look out at. They also have very clean private bathrooms, which is always a plus. We started off with a cup of the clam chowder. I liked it because it seemed to have a lot of things in it (normally when i eat clam chowder, it doesnt have much actual clams or chunks of potato). 9/10 For the entrees, we had the lobster reuben sandwich, swordfish, and fried calamari. The lobster reuben was exactly what you would expect it would taste like especially if you ever had a reuben sandwich before and lobster. The fries on the side were also perfect. Not too crispy, not too soft. They had a nice cut to them too. 7/10 The swordfish entree was interesting. It came on a bed of pea-filled ravioli with some sundried tomatos and arugula on top. The cream sauce in the entire dish is delicious. However, the pasta of the ravioli was a little hard and the filling not so enticing. The swordfish itself was okay. There wasn't much flavor. 5/10 The fried calamari was said to be a good dish to get here and I can understand why. They really transformed a typical fried calamari dish into something special. Adding different sauces and toppings and other elements to the dish. I think there was balsamic vinegar and sweet and sour sauce..... However, I'm not a huge fan of that much flavor when I'm not expecting it. It also seemed a bit more oily than it could be. 4/10 Lastly, I had the black and white milkshake. Very good if youre a fan of sweets. 10/10. It's really hard to mess up a milkshake though.

The open floor plan almost looks like a beer hall, but better because: seafood. Definitely a must for anyone in the area. With moderately high prices but amazing food this a great family restaurant or bar for friendly drinks. High top and picnic style tables paired with a bar area, make it a perfect spot for any occasion. I recommend the chowder, lobster roll, and the oysters.

Found a gem while touring around the Cape Cod Canal. Excellent food and friendly service as well as some entertaining conversation with local patrons. Clam Chowder, the real thing with identifiable pieces of clams and a flavorful stock, not thickened. I need to go back 4-5 times to try some of the other dishes, tough decision for my first trip but went with the local favorite Swordfish Sandwich, suggested by our cheery waitress. I posted a copy of the menu to Facebook and a friend in South Carolina replied "I read the menu and want you to bring home one of everything". We will be back.

Can we just talk about how this was the best lobster roll I've ever had? We were in the area due to some not-so-good news, and needed a place to have dinner. I'm so glad my inlaws picked this place because it was out of control good. When you walk in the aroma of fresh seafood really hits you. Then you proceed to seat yourself. I loved the atmosphere. You felt like you were below deck in a fishing boat. It was really cool. Our waiter was very efficient. This place was no frills but the food was exceptional. We started off with the New England clam chowder and onion rings. The chowder was the perfect consistency. Creamy but not thick like glue with a perfect briney bite. I was hooked. The onion rings were perfect as well. Thin but had a crispy texture. My fiancé and I each had the lobster roll. There must have been at least a pound of meat on it. Lightly dressed with mayo and lettuce on a perfectly buttered and crisp brioche bun. I can't say enough good things about it. It was incredible. Paired with perfect french fries for $21?! A steal. My father-in-law ordered the calamari. His first order was dropped on the floor before it arrived at our table but they remedied it quickly and brought a hot, fresh plate and it was perfectly cooked. My mother-in-law and sister-in-law shared the fried seafood platter and were also very pleased with their meals. I'll be dreaming of this lobster roll for many years to come...

One of the worst dining experiences I have ever encountered. Tuesday night my family and I arrived at the restaurant at 7:15. We were told we had about a 45 minute wait (not unusual) and we waited outside enjoying a glass of wine. At 8:15 our table was ready. OK. Fifteen minutes late is not so bad. However we ordered by 8:30 and our dinner did not arrive until 9:45. No one told us that the kitchen was backed up. If they had we would have left. We had a seven year old child with us. The food was mediocre at best. My grandson's hamburger was burnt (they did not charge us for it). The night was a disaster. The waiter finally told us that she did not know what was wrong with the kitchen. Many orders were taking over an hour to reach the table. We have been going to the restaurant for at least fifteen years (when you placed your order at the window and carried your food to a table). This treatment was unprofessional. No apology from the staff - just an excuse. No apology from the management. Never to return. Neither should anyone else.

Party of 6 tonight. Went at 5:30 ish on a Saturday. Waited 40 minutes-don't take reservations. Passed time having a great margarita, watching tv in the bar and chatting with friends outside. Food was very good. Of note: calamari was crispy and sweet, little necks on the half shell were very fresh, fried clams were very good, tuna tartare yummy - served with fresh chips. Nicole, our waitress, was attentive and efficient. Despite being extremely busy, the service and food were excellent. And oh. How could I forget the onion rings? Best we've ever had!

Happy with our first dinner at the Lobster Trap, but there is room for improvement. The Barnstable oysters that we ordered were super. The clam chowder, which arrived luke warm, was okay but not great. The corn on the cob was... not so tasty. The onion rings were very good. (the serving size is way beyond what any one person should eat.) The swordfish entree that we shared was out of this world! Overall the service was good, considering how busy they where last Saturday night. It was a bit pricy for the Cape but obviously the prices are not keeping many people away. I gave them 4 stars, instead of 3, because it seemed to me that this place has a lot of potential. Maybe the sections of the kitchen was just totally overwhelmed with the crowd on Saturday when we were there. I look forward to visiting again.

Wanting the cape cod experience we decided to try this place, I will compliment to atmosphere was very nice , great music and views. However, the service was just OK. Although she was very polite our waitress Avery made us feel a bit rushed to order , my pregnant sister who is going threw water fast and my husband who drinks his sodas quickly waited a extremely long period of time for refills. She did walk past us multiple times with there empty drinks at the end of the table and gave no service . The food was good and I really enjoyed the clam chowder. My husbands veggies were very bland but tasted good so I guess that's in the eye of the beholder if you like more flavor or not . Overall with more persistent service this place would be a great place to hangout

LOVE this place!!! We arrived early, when they opened on Saturday. Noticed it fills up fast! We sat outside which overlooks water. Very nice atmosphere indoors too. I had never heard of a LOBSTER REUBEN before. Lobster and sauerkraut? Heck yeah! It was DELICIOUS!!!! Seafood Platter was very good. Crab Cakes were ok but didn't like the mango on top. Service was fine. They offer valet parking!!! Can't wait to go back :)

We've always enjoyed coming to the Lobster Trap until this time. The server was extremely disinterested. After a long wait, and a not full restaurant, our crab cake came cold. After waiting quite a while, another crab cake came to us that was all breading, no crab! No apologies or concern shown. The other meals were good.

The Lobster Roll was REALLY tasty, but about 1/4 the size that I had seen in the photo of the article naming it the Best Lobster Roll on Cape Cod. Good selection of beer and a great hard cider on tap. I've got to knock off a couple of stars, though. Someone in our party can't have gluten, so when she ordered the tacos, she asked if they came on corn tortillas, and was told that they did. But nope, when delivered, they were served in flour tortillas, and once dropped off, our waitress disappeared for a long time, so it took much too long to get food that she could actually eat. They did give her a drink for free, so that was a nice gesture. (Also, apparently, even their corn tortillas have white flour in them which is completely not necessary, so IDK what's up with that.) And then the check was wrong. Twice. Maybe there was a new waitress or it was just an off day, but it all seemed like a lot of effort for a simple lunch. Shrug.

Tastiest and fresh seafood! We didn't wait for a table, they got our order right away - fish and chips, raw oysters and seafood platter, served after 10-15 minutes. Very good and jolly staff. A bit pricey tho compared to other seafood places but overall, very good quality

Good food but a bit on pricey side. Lunch for two adults and two kids was $100 with tip. But good for kids and the food was tasty. They also have a nice fish market for bringing food home to cook. Nice selection of lobsters and you can call ahead to have them cooked for you to pick up.

This place is an absolute must if you are anywhere near The Cape. The atmosphere is rustic and very cool! Family friendly or date night appropriate! They have great deck outside as well. The service is awesome and best of all is the food!!! When I say amazing, I mean Ahhhh . . . Mazing. You will not be disappointed no matter what you order. The seafood is fresh and local, of course, but they also have some interesting fusion type items like the teriyaki skewers over pineapple rice and the tuna tartare. This is not your average seafood joint. Don't miss out!

We come here every year when we are on the cape but we have never sat down in the restaurant, only ordered take out. There is zero parking (unless you want to valet your car) and the place is always packed! The food is very good, although pretty pricey. The clam chowder is delicious, as is the lobster roll. The fries and onion rings are always a good side as well. All the fish is fresh and nicely prepared, I've yet to have a bad dish. I am obsessed with the hoisin marinated steak tips, they are always fantastic. However this year I was sad to see they replaced the yummy cucumber salad that was a side dish to the steak tips with fried rice and spinach. The spinach was bland and mushy while the pineapple fried rice was just not my style, sticky and way too sweet.

Lobster Trap is a few things shy of five stars but still a great place to get some fresh seafood cooked well. I've had several different items here that I love and would recommend getting if you go. The Calamari! It is delicious and cooked in an Asian sweet chili type sauce. They previously served this over an arugula salad, but I'm not sure if they do it like this anymore. Ask for it like this, and you'll probably have some of the best calamari of your life. Another great item is the Surf & Turf burger. Angus burger, lobster, Guacamole, tomato, on a Portuguese English Muffin. A-MA-ZING! So why not 5 stars? Well, plastic throw away cups for all drinks, a long wait, a forced valet system because the parking lot is so small, and I have had a order come out wrong. All that said, I still recommend this place to most people I know.

Four of us chose to take a drive from the South Shore to the Cape with this restaurant as our destination. Reading about its lobster rolls on-line, we chose to order these and we opted for French Fries that are optional, and to add a side dish of onion rings. Results were .... excellent! We noted other patrons' dishes and these look most appetizing. The rolls were so full of lobster meat that two of us did not finish and took the balance home. It contains one pound of lobster. This is casual dining. We placed our order at a counter and the young women taking our food order and bringing the food to our table were most pleasant and smiling. If you like drawn butter, just ask for it. To top it off, the four of us had a fun and most enjoyable conversation with the manager, Brenda. I hope you get to meet her. She is so personable, energetic and endearing funny. In conversation with her, she recommended another nice place for us to visit which was right on the water. Thank you Brenda for helping us with finding this site. A side note, we learned about her successful flower arrangement for weddings and she does this as the Wandering Florist based in Hanover. All and all, a nice day on Cape Cod

Great food. Nice space. Friendly staff. Quick service. Stopped here on my birthday while in the area and ordered chowder, fish & chips and popcorn shrimp. Everything was good. The chowder portion was huge and I loved every spoonful. The fish was crispy and perfectly cooked. The shrimp was the perfect bite size and succulent. Very happy with my birthday lunch choice!

The lobster trap was dynamite! Their lobster roll was to die for. Ordered a side of fried clam strips and they were also great. Def repeat visit for sure. Atmosphere was also chill. Five stars here.

In reading some of the older reviews it is apparent that this place has under gone renovations recently. And from the sound of it they were for the best. The atmosphere was great and I loved the fact that there was a fish market attached. The parking was little to be desired but we went when it was a slow point in the day anyways. The staff was great, attentive and friendly. I got a cup of clam chowder while my husband got a bowl, and let me tell you a bowl is huge a cup is more than enough (I've attached a photo). The reason we looked for a lobster place was for a lobster roll, which my husband got. He said it was delicious, had a large amount of meat and the roll was toasted perfectly. I got the lobster reuben since I'm a reuben lover and wanted to try this twist. I was not disappointed at all! Definitely worth the try if you are looking for a lobster roll but want something a bit different. Needless to say this will be an addition to our list of places to go. Being right in buzzard's bay and just over the Bourne bridge make it easy to get to!

Came in on a Sunday for lunch... thankful it was still off-season because they weren't crazy packed. We were seated at a nice table right next to the windows that face out to the bay. There was a gorgeous breeze that came through the open windows that made the dining experience that much better. I had the fried clam strips platter. The clam strips were battered and cooked perfectly. They weren't greasy or chewy at all. The fries were actually perfect too - not greasy and didn't taste like seafood which ends up happening a lot of times at seafood places. One of my friends had the seafood soup - it was really good. It consisted of a lobster bisque type broth with scallops, shrimp and huge chunks of lobster. She ordered the bowl size - which was massive. Another friend had the mussels (not my thing) and said they were very good. We finished with a chocolate layer cake that came with fresh whipped cream - I wasn't expecting much of this cake but it was very good. I think the prices here are very reasonable for what you get. The place is not fancy but does have a nice bar area and nice outdoor seating. The service was great and the bus boy was always close by to clear away any dirty plates. The parking lot gets crazy here so luckily they offer free valet parking.

Went here for post-business conference lunch with about 10 colleagues. They took us in right away and we were promptly greeted with a waitress. Although a tid snarky (after we asked her to split our bill) she was accommodating and took each of our orders accurately. We each got chowder or seafood bisque - all except one, who soon changed her mind and ordered a cup after smelling ours - which was just the kind of seafood soup you'd expect from Cape Cod. The Sword Sandwich was flavorful, tender and well dressed with a ciabatta bun. If ever in the area again, I will be back!

The Lobster Trap was formerly one of my favorite restaurants. It was a very casual local spot with great food.. Patrons walked in, stepped up to the counter and ordered, then chose a favorite table and enjoyed the scenery while awaiting for their number to be called. The staff was amazing. The food was outstanding with daily specials that were exemplary. Unfortunately, the Lobster Trap now has a hostess who seats patrons, a waiter or waitress to to take ordes, and no choice of tables. The service is not good. The restaurant has lost its local appeal. The expanded bar is always busy and the restaurant is loud. The food is not dependable and tends to be greasy. No longer a favorite spot. Tonight was probably my last time to give it a try. So sad.

We came to the Lobster Trap for Mother's Day. As many good restaurants, the place was hopping. We quickly sat, after ordering a round of drinks at the bar, probably 20 minutes. The waitresses and waiters all had their A-game for this busy day. We were impressed. Go for the calamari and the lobster roll. You will not be disappointed!

Standard fried and breaded seafood. Very crowded, probably best to avoid in Summer. Tables were sticky, grimy---ick. Will continue to seek out SE Mass cuisine that is a healthier alternative. They do have salads, but are proud of the "scoops" of mayo-laden lobster that are thrown in.

I love and adore this place. Their shrimp is off the hook, the baked scallops (sans bread crumbs) are amazing and the roasted potatoes burst in your mouth and taste like mashed heaven. The full sail with titos (gluten free vodka) is my drink of choice and the waitresses are always friendly and because we are regulars give us a smile and a hello. This is our regular spot and we love it!!

I am a little saddened by the restaurant's choice to make this a restaurant and not a seafood joint. My last visit was two years ago and every year brought a new selection of seafood into my life. I really enjoyed the laid back approach the joint had, with a counter, open seating, and a wonderful view of the water. This place is packed now, completely ruining the feeling. Now, it is a restaurant, with waiter service and a new menu, attempting to be an American restaurant with higher prices and less seafood. We arrived and were seated quickly. The service was pretty good, it just wasn't what we expected. Decor is the same of it used to, but it was much darker and it seems that they added a bar, which was not necessary. The menu consists of raw bar, salads, appetizers, such as clam chowder, seafood stew, crab cakes, calamari, quahog, etc., rolls and seafood, like pulled pork, swordfish, clam roll, shrimp roll, etc., their new entrees, which takes away from the concept, including salmon, yellowfin tuna, scrod, lobster, etc., fried seafood, sides, and a selection of desserts. We didn't have appetizers, but we saw a family have a bowl of steamers, or shellfish in a steaming pot, which looked interesting. We had a fried shrimp roll, which wasn't amazing. It was a bit bland, too greasy, and wasn't the greatest we have had. At least the portion was alright, but the price was not the cheapest. I had the steak tips which sounded really interesting. The steak itself was fantastic, cooked perfectly medium, extremely juicy and was a large cut. It was served with spinach, which was pretty good, and pineapple fried rice which was not good. It was sticky in texture, was too sweet, and really didn't correspond to the dish. The flavor combination was awkward, but I really enjoyed the steak with the spinach. We had a surf and turf burger, which according to the menu is an "Angus burger, lobster, guacamole, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, grilled Portuguese English muffin." Again, these food items do not go well together. Lobster is ruined when inundated with many overpowering ingredients. The burger was yummy by itself, the lobster was pretty good, but together, the sandwich didn't work. I used to enjoy this place, but due to the change in menu and feel of the restaurant, I may just stick to my favorites.

I was on a business trip and eat here two nights in a row! Same meal each night, I had the clam chowder and lobster roll. One word, amazing!! The atmosphere and the wait staff are awesome! I wish I lived in the area, this would be a regular place for me.

How in the world have we decided to let this style of life go away in most places? This is an amazing spot with wonderful food, excellent drink and just marvelous staff. It was a Wednesday that we were here and the area with a view was just charming. We saw not just two beautiful swans swimming by us twice, but also a fox who cruised along the railroad tracks. The view, all parts of it were superb. Dinner included an amazing scallop roll and a burger with lobster meat on top of it which was truly outstanding. The scallop roll was perfectly prepared and it's grilled roll was just excellent. The meal was really as good as I am writing. There was an excellent chocolate cake with well made whipped cream and blueberries. It was great with just the right amount of sweetness while others are usually too sweet. This was a wonderful ending to a great meal.

I expected better and was not impressed at all. I won't return. None of my food was very hot, more like luke warm. The Seafood Stew was just OK. My Wife's Clam Chowder was much hotter and better tasting. My Whole Belly Clam Dinner was served luke warm and the clams and fries were just OK, but I get much tastier clams at a local place that is nowhere near the coast. I did expect a lot better due to the location (real fresh source of fish) and reputation here. I had a hard time flagging down our waitress for another drink. The place was busy but she didn't check in with us more than once (maybe twice) the whole time we were there. All in all, I think that the Lobster Trap is a tourist trap! Parking hint: There is a large lot just over the small bridge past the restaurant. They could use a sign at the entrance as it looks like a private driveway.

Beautiful spot. There was a bit of a wait, however, it was a Friday night. Live music on the patio! The clan chowder was delish and a must try.. The shrimp roll was delicious, onion rings were perfect. Great time!

4.5 stars if I could. I stop at this place every time I come to the Cape (which is often). The lobster rolls are the best I have had on the Cape and I am somewhat of a connoisseur. I ordered mussels and clam chowder as well during my last visit and both were incredibly delicious (I drank the broth like a soup after I was finished with the mussels). Classic New England seafood done very well.

As soon as they led me outside onto the roofless deck with 10 ft glass walls looking out over the water I knew I was going to like it. The sun was shining and it was 80 degrees out. Simply beautiful. It was entertaining watching the local kids jumping off the railroad bridge into the water. It must be a summer past time as there were many coming and going the entire time we were there. I had tried before to go here but it was so crowded I passed. This time I went about 5:00 pm, a little before the mad dinner blitz and it worked out well. No waiting and prime table spot. By the time I left there were people waiting outside. Nice strategy on my part (ty very much lol). The food was very good and the service was ok. My waitress could of been more out going but it was minor. She did however execute my worst pet peeve when dining out, she brought our entrees out while we were still eating our appetizers. I can't stand that. Now I had to rush so my entree would not be cold and unappetizing. Other than that we had no complaints for waiting too long for anything or needing anything. Be sure to have a few dollars cash on you. They have free valet parking due the the weird parking situation and those poor guys were physically running to fetch cars in 80 degree weather non stop. They definitely deserved a few dollars tip. I've read the reviews on here.. most common complaint is about the prices. I felt they weren't as bad as portrayed in the reviews, for where you are dining and what you are eating, if you have any grip on reality you will see they (prices) are quite acceptable. I can't wait to go back here.

I loved this place. The lobster roll was outstanding. The roll was toasted well and there was lobster overflowing out of it. You can tell they put at least 1.25 lb lobster in each roll. Multiple claws were visible in the mix and it wasn't too much mayonnaise which is the way I like it. My wife was raving about the seafood chowder. She ordered a cup and it was very large compared to other places I've ordered cups of soup, more like a bowl. The waitress said some people think they make a mistake in the kitchen thinking they ordered a bowl. The drinks were very tasty as well. I had the full sail, kind of fruity but not to sweet. Vodka, Malibu, and southern comfort with some fruit juice. I definitely plan on going back to try some of the other items on the menu.

Their food is delicious....they serve pretty fast and the waitress was very nice. I was having an awful day that day but somehow eating here made my day better. I tried their crispy calamari...it came warm and crispy. I like that they mix banana peppers in the mix, it really gives it a surprising different taste that makes you want to eat more. Just thinking about it makes me want to go there again. Their lobster chowder was creamy and tasty too. I Like that they have views to the water and that they have a seafood shop next door. We had to buy their lobster crab cake to take home to try and it was well seasoned, just like I like it, and fresh. FYI. They have valet parking.

On a trip to the Cape a bit over a year ago we tried clam chowder & lobster rolls at every place we could find...on the last day we found the Lobster Trap...they had the BEST! Over this Christmas we were lucky enough to attend a wedding in Cape Cod...and the reception dinner was at the Lobster Trap! What luck! They handled a demanding party of 30 with ease...while handling a full restaurant around us. We had a set Clam Bake menu...the food just kept coming! We began with chunky clam chowder & salad. Then corn on the cob, potato salad (delicious), a whole 2lb lobster per person, chicken & steamed clams. Lobster was large & perfectly cooked. While I would never order chicken at the Lobster Trap (so much seafood to eat) I tried it as it was available and I did not want it to go to waste - cooked to perfection! I will visit the Lobster Trap on every trip to the Cape...possibly more than once!

Delicious! Staff was so so friendly and the food was great! Got some lobster rolls and a whole lobster. Prepared really well, the rolls didn't have too much butter or mayonnaise. Looked like they put a while lobsters worth of meat on the roll which was crazy. The wait is about an hour in season, but well worth it!

We asked around where to go and the lobster trap was recommended. So glad we asked. Everything was perfect. Outside dining, staff and great food, made for the perfect night out. Dining with young kids, a young adult and 2 adults isn't always easy to suffice, but the Lobster Trap did that flawlessly. Highly recommend. Everything was delish!

Absolutely exceptional seafood! Everything was fresh and delicious. The service could've been better. We went in with a party of four. I got the twin lobsters and the rest of my group finished before I did..not a huge deal but the waitress came to bring the check while I was just starting the second lobster. So I felt rushed to finish. The place more than makes up for this with the delicious food though.

Love this place! Have been coming here since I was a kid. My family moved near by a few years ago, so now it's a no brainer to get dinner here on Saturdays in the summer! Huge portions, fresh seafood, and dinning room is overlooking the water. Very casual place but has awesome fancier specials for those looking to try something outside the box! Highly recommend! They're always busy, but in summer months they have a free valet service to help you get you in and out quickly!

  • Andrea K.

Inexpensive, open all year & friendly. The cups of chowder and seafood stew are really bowls, they're huge servings. Drinks are big & strong. The lobby/restrooms are disorganized, hard to tell if someone is waiting for a table or waiting for the bathroom. Waitstaff seemed inexperienced, but I bet they are every May on Cape and at the end of the summer they're fast & efficient.

I got a tuna melt, my boyfriend got a lobster rueben. Both were AHH-MAZING! We sat outside even though it was cold because we wanted the whole experience. It was a little difficult for us to find but my dad said it was worth it and boy was he right. However the valet was useless.

  • Lana L.

You wait for a table that's assigned to you. And then you order your meal with the cashier. And then you wait some more for your food to be called by the # on the receipt. I don't really get why you have to wait for a table in the first place when technically, people could just order and then find a spot themselves. I was excited to try the lobster roll but found the bread to be too overwhelming. The lobster meat was good though. Not my fav but this is a very popular place and must be crowded for a reason.

    (3)
  • Leo S.

The high points were the crab cakes which may be fresh or from the freezer I don't know but delicious, the stunning view, free valet parking and pleasant staff. The low points are it's noisy, draft beers weren't as cold as expected, and prices. My whales tail was only cool. At $6 a chilled glass would be nice. The bartenders mix a mean drink that balances well. The restrooms were perfect and clean. The swordfish was cooked perfectly. Delicious! The lobster roll was over stuffed with lobster meat. It's more of a pile of lobster meet surrounded by a hot dog bun. You get a lot of meat for the price. You will have enough for a late night snack as leftovers. The desert menu needs some flagship items to round off the upscale offering and prices. The mussels could really use more flavor and a couple were not open on delivery to the table. This happens but have the expediters remove the unopened before bringing to the customer for better presentation and staging. Colder beers, a little more wow factor on the desert menu and cleaner presentation would match the ambiance to the upscale pricing. Superior staff compared to other cape cod visits this summer. They are well on their way to being the go to restaurant on the lower cape.

I may be slightly biased due to the fact that basically grew up at The Trap (8 years of work under my belt), but I can confidently say that the Lobster Trap is one of the best restaurants on the cape, not only for the top notch food, drinks, and service, but for the dedicated owner and staff. This is truly a family restaurant- owned and operated by a down to earth guy who is visibly passionate about his business day in and day out, a talented head chef, Dan, who makes unbelievable creations, and a menu that will fit the taste buds of virtually anyone who walks through the door. It's so awesome to see all these positive reviews, I urge anyone that's in the area to check out the trap... And all the locals know the best time to enjoy the full "trap experience" is when there's room to roam and the dinner rush has yet to come stampeding in. And hey, busy is a good sign! It's worth the wait anyways. Cheers!

Amazing Seafood and a decent price. Since they added the bar to the restaurant the place is always hopping. All the seafood is fresh caught considering they own the fish market and distributor next door. It puts Legal seafood's to shame and most Cape "seafood" to shame as well. Good atmosphere in the summer with a younger crowd. Goo for kids and take out as well. Enjoy!

Loved loved loved this place. Very fresh and cozy feeling they are doing it right by far. I would recommend this place to everyone to try for great seafood. As a self proclaimed foodie I enjoy going to restaurants that have great food and service like the lobster trap. Try their lobster roll it's full of fresh lobster meat and you won't be unhappy about it. Their chowder is great as well. My wife had the clams which were a great size portion. We had a wonderful lunch here.

The restaurant has a market next door where you can buy seafood to take home. A great intro to the location. The staff is very friendly. The food really speaks for itself. Don't leave without trying the calamari and clams appetizers. And of course the lobster rolls - It will rock your world.

Expensive, but that's the sacrifice you make for great seafood! Fresh seafood and amazing house cocktails! Love the environment. Great outdoor seating. I can't imagine how packed the place gets during tourist season!

I was not impressed. Large table that had fish tacos, lobster, fish and chips. So the Fish and chips were about $15.00 for small portions. They were fresh, but batter needed some help. Fish tacos were around $12.00 for a couple of small tacos that really needed to be spices up, salsa or something. And the lobsters were fine, but way over priced. My ticket for 2 F&C and 1 kids hot dog and one fish taco and 1 soda, $75.00. So while I am sure there are great things about this place in the middle of summer that can justify that kind of spend, I was not seeing it. So thumbs down from all of us. Perspective (Fresh F&C in RI from the local market, fried for you, $6.00) and they are much better.

Long wait, but SOOOOOOOO worth it! Delicious Crispy Calamari appetizer followed by Amazing Seared Tuna Pad Thai! Highly recommended sitting outside for the beautiful sunset views over the water!

I came here as a kid when it was just a take out / BYOB place. It's so nice to see it growing and giving some life to the community! Service and food are great and it's nice to have the live music too!

My new favorite seafood spot on the Cape. Great location, the absolutely freshest seafood, good service--maybe a bit on the pricey side but you get what you pay for. The seafood stew is incredible!

Yummy! Had the lobster egg rolls, fish and ships, clam chowder. Everything was amazing. Very laid back restaurant, quick service.

Lobsta roll was sooo full of fresh lobster meat and the clam chowder was excellent. So people had fried clams or shrimp and the seafood salad. Everything fresh, huge portions and delicious. Order at the counter get your seat and wait for your number. Right by the water with a great view. Small bar too. Perfect Cape Cod stop!!!

Best lobster roll ever!! Lots of good ol' Cape Cod atmosphere & friendlyness and an easy stop coming or leaving the Cape, especially if you are coming over the Bourne Bridge. Can get busy, so plan accordingly - it's worth it.

Delicious and reasonably priced fresh seafood, with a great relaxed atmosphere overlooking the water. The seafood stew is my favorite!

I'm not sure why there are so many negative reviews. I visited the Lobster Trap on a beautiful summer afternoon, and ordered two steamed lobsters, and they were delicious. I also ordered fresh clams to-go, and I cooked them at home, and they were great as well. I haven't eaten much else here, but the staff was helpful, and very friendly. I will definitely be back. Located directly on the canal, the location is perfect. I do love the parking lot covered in all crushed white shells...ahhhhh it's the little things :)

Drop in and grab a beer or cocktail at the great bar. Bartenders are friendly and helpful. Food is excellent. Try the sword sandwich a lobster trap classic. I've been going here my whole life and haven't been disappointed yet. Great views of buzzards bay and the back river.

We went here for dinner. LOVED it. The food was great, wait staff was awesome and price was reasonable. Got the clam chowder....portions were huge. Great place and kid friendly.

I used to come here on occasion as a kid, (my aunt has a place in Pocasset), and I will quote the owner to sum up the current state of the Lobster Trap "I'm just trying to get asses in seats" 1 and a half hour wait to get a "no service" table, and then another 30 minutes in line to order. This business is obviously dealing with an overwhelming increase in business. I had hyped up the clam chowder to my fellow Californians who had joined us on the trip, remebering how it was when I was a kid, and what we ended up with was something luke warm at best, still good, but nowhere near what I remember. Lobster roll was awesome, and from what the wives said, the mudslides from the bar were top notch. Instead of getting asses in seats, maybe the focus should be on streamlining procedures, because beneath the luke warm chowdah and the extreme wait times there is that special place I remember as a youngster hiding somewhere.

The seafood here is great and there are kids menu items too. Loved the clam chowder and the lobster Reuben. Everyone was pleasant from the hostess, wait staff and valets. Casual atmosphere with pretty view of Buzzards Bay. Highly recommend.

As an admitted newbie to the seafood game but veteran of the restaurant game I'd have to give this restaurant a favorable review. While I happened to have a negative parking experience due to a poorly placed Honda Ridgeline blocking my line of sight to the road. I enjoyed the fact that it seemed to be a family style restaurant where you ordered at the counter and picked up your food until I saw the prices (eek!). It may be my Rhode Island bias shining through but this place was a little too expensive for me. Fried clams, calamari, and the fish were all excellent but I was disappointed with the lobster roll that was actually more like lobster salad. Would probably come back due to the ambiance and open feel of the restaurant but I'm sure the locals could guide you to a better spot.

I'm back with another review of the Lobster Trap. We had lunch there today and it is wicked better than ever! The lobster salad was perfect, the wait staff so nice (thank you, Tess) everybody there was having a good time. There was a kids' birthday party and the staff was amazing to them and for the rest of us...no disruption, just all fun. There are suited business men, women in terry cloth cover ups, oldsters (us), trendy yuppies, all enjoying fun atmosphere, nice people but most of all...great, I mean GREAT food.

Amazing service, Amazing Lobster, and an Amazing experience. My Mother's step-sister Janice recommended we try dinner here as she lived nearby. We were not disappointed in the slightest. The owner even came over and introduced himself! This was one of the best experiences I could have ever had down in cape cod. If you want genuine, northern lobster then you should check then out. Loved it! When we come back up we will be stopping by again!

Ok! This is it my final review of my life's passion to find the best lobsta roll in the world!!!! I grew up in this sweet little town before the lobster trap was born and have returned every year like a homing pigeon to revisit my old hood . The trap is without a doubt the best lobsta roll place ever!!!! I have eaten them in Gloucester (studio 1 -bad) Legals in boston both sites (mediocre), Arnold's in eastham (ok), surf club in ptown (very good) capt Al's in Wareham (also very good). But the BEST is the "trap". The size, homemade brioche roll, flavor and consistency of chunky sweet lobsta meat unparalleled . My husband has consistently tried the seafood platter and also finds it the best he has had. The waitstaff is terrific - these kids are born and bred in Bourne and do a great job here-give me a break about complaining- they are summertime workers and not culinary institute grads - ( lucky you never had me as your waitress!!) If you don't like this place there is something wrong with your taste buds or your ambience factor- this is it! Ps don't ever order a hamburger in a seafood place like wearing a fur coat to a PETA rally!

I really wanted to like this place. I was meeting a Cape friend and wanted seafood. I read all the reviews, and most liked the Lobster Trap, so we went. The negative reviews mentioned high prices and small portions. They were right. We called our meals the 4-5-6 rolls. My friends scallop roll had 4 pieces, my wife's scallop roll had 5 pieces, and my clam roll had 6 clams. We suspect the scallops were frozen, and the clams were tough and overly breaded. The forth in our party had a fish sandwich, to which he asked for cheese to be included. They of course charged for the cheese. Our service was fine, but the meal was an $88.00 dollar disappointment.( Including 4 draft beers in plastic cups, which certainly were not pints). We did tip the waitress above and beyond the $88.00....the food wasn't her fault .The reason for valet parking is that they don't have enough room for the patrons to park.by themselves....When I asked to park my own car, they warned that I had to back into a space, which I did.??? In closing, I would never go back....the portions are insulting for the prices charged. I now know why it's called a Trap...enter at your own risk.

With Memorial Day coming to a close, another summer season is upon us, bringing a new and improved Lobster Trap. The food is as delicious as always, and the enhanced bar offers welcome respite when the weather doesn't accommodate. Try the lobster roll, and the clam (full belly) roll. You're in for a treat.

The food here is exactly what you'd expect from a cafe style seafood restaurant. It's your typical fried clams and lobster rolls. I very much enjoy eating here occasionally and the price is right. The staff is friendly and the order comes up within a reasonable amount of time. I recommend this establishment to any seafood lover.

Fantastic food, service is good, and the wait times are not long. I've been there twice in the last month and the food was a 10 out of 10 both times. Calamari and the swordfish sandwich were amazing. I will be hard pressed NOT to eat here whenever I go to the Cape.

Great place! Very very generous portions of lobster on the roll. Happy it wasn't tons of mayo on it (although it seemed like a lot of water held in the lobster). Seafood soup was a must have and beat out the clam chowder. Parking lot seems like the place will be packed but there are tons of tables and fast turn overs so there's no wait.

Good "meaty" fish and chips. Got the tuna tartare which was awesome. Also had the fish tacos, which aside from being a small portion were spot on. Valet parking and otherwise congested access makes this fried food joint a bit tough to get to. Good food and friendly staff, thumbs up.

Atmosphere, friendly atmosphere, best chowder on the cape and reasonable prices (for the Cape which can range from high to silly). I met the owner/ brothers 7-8 years ago when the one almost took my head off cause we were using his parking lot to put in our waders and go fishing across the street. I told him that we were planning lunch there afterward and he apologized for losing it and we had a nice conversation. We've been going ever since. The food is terrific, very ambitious menu (the one brother has worked in high end joints in Boston) and the seats are WAY better than the old plastic ones. Hostess and table service now (used to be order up front and take a number). Add a new bar and it's a classy joint, just divey enough to be wicked cool. CAREFUL when you order chowder (best of the Cape for certain) cause a "bowl" is a bucket! Family sized. I could have split it with 2-3 other people. Lobster egg roll was lovely. My buddy had Seafood Chowder that was possibly better than the clam chowder? His reaction: "for sure one of the 10 best soups he's ever eaten" and he is a world class gourmand! Anyway, I have always lived this place and happy to say they still deliver. I notice some neg reviews on Yelp and all I can say is come back again. I'm SO happy I live in Baltimore 100s of miles away. I'd be a whale cause is eat here ALL the time.

The Lobster Trap is located next to the Back River along Buzzards Bay. It's a short ride from the Cape Cod Canal and Bourne Rotary - follow Trowbridge Rd to Shore Rd and you'll come across it on the right. The bar has undergone a couple of renovations over the last few years. As of about a week ago they've added another 3-4 tables in the full service bar section replacing a longer bar that provided a place to lean but wasn't ideal for eating. It's a nice change. The tables are nice providing seating for 4-5 without cluttering up the bar area like so many bars seem to do. Beyond the bar section is an area for self seating. We use this area with our kids. You place your order at the window and pick it up when it's called. In reality every time we've been there someone has brought it to us but I'm not sure that is always the drill. The layout is functional and the tables have been re-aligned here as well and I think the flow is better as is the functionality. Bar service has always been very good. Bar tenders are fast and efficient. Food service likewise is always speedy. The adults usually go for the higher end seafood while the kids do the typical kids foods of chicken fingers and fries. The scallops are always terrific, the fish plates likewise are well done. They've added some new seared tuna plates which are excellent as is the new tuna tartare. I'll admit I love the food here. Pricing fits with the local area when you consider The Chart Room and some of the nicer places down the road. The only small consideration I have is that the food can vary at times. It's always good but I can go back on back to back days and have the same menu item that tastes different. Not a big deal. During the warm season the outdoor patio is an attractive option. The owners have put a lot of time and effort into adjusting to the customers needs. I really like what they're doing here, I like how fast they adjust and above all really enjoy the atmosphere. Good people that appreciate your patronage. It's one of my favorite places to grab a drink, lunch of dinner in the area.

Visiting this city well known for it's lobster....I was not impressed...the price was a bit high for what you get...I will say the clam chowder was good...the lobster was a bit tough and the cashier did not know what she was doing trying to ring us up and when you asked about food portions and recommendations, she always had to refer to her other employee.

Like the layout changes over the last few years. The steamers and lobster rolls are as good as ever. The Fish Taco's (new to me anyways) are awesome. The outdoor seating makes for a great take in the summer for families; but there's a relaxed vibe in February that I probably enjoy more. Strong recommendation if you love seafood.

Had never been here before and stopped by for a late afternoon lunch following an enjoyable day at Scusset Beach. I do not mean this in a derogatory way but it struck us as being a dive bar with class. Very bucolic place on the river with great excellent fresh sea food. The clientele were having fun and were all very friendly, and the service was excellent. I had two draft Whale' s tails and Beverly had a Bloody Mary. For food Beverly had baked scrod, and I had a stuffed quohog and R.I. style calamari. All was excellent and we enjoyed it while viewing the river. After our meal we cruised on up to The Chart Room to sit and enjoy the marina view. We dispensed with our usual mud slides because we had to drive home. Thank you for an enjoyable time at The Lobster Trap, we will stop by after our next day at the beach.

Probably the worst piece of fried cod and french fries I've ever eaten. The cod was breaded too heavily, cooked to the cardboard stage and then set over limp, greasy french fries. The clam chowder was one gloppy step above canned chowder. One fish plate and two cups of clam chowder with cafeteria style service for over $30! All in all, it was a horrible beginning to my Cape Cod vacation.

This a fish market, fried seafood joint and commercial seafood dealer all in one right near the Pocasset River in Monument Beach. I only went to the fish market and it was very clean, well displayed and very fresh stuff. Everything looked scruptious and I just got some cod and linquica stuffy to take home. The fish was fresh as Will Smith in Bel Air and the stuffy was enuffy good! I will return and try some cooked chow too.

Been here a couple times now. Love it. A little pricey I won't lie but well worth it. This place can get very busy in the summer for a heads up. They added a bar to the back end of the place. Great Idea. It looks great as well. Fits right in with the rest of the decor as being a true lobster-man's dining place. I will return someday.

This place is open year-round and has great food and full-bar. I had the fish & chips ~ two large hunks of fresh cod lightly battered and flakely... AWESOME! The chips (aka french fries) were a bit on the greasy side unfortunately. Also, had fresh little-neck clams & orsters.... YUMMM! My partner had a samon dish that was out-of-this-world delicious. This place was recommended by a local to be the best in the area and he wasn't wrong, but be prepared to open your wallet.... it is not cheap here!

  • Hogger K.

Let me start with the most important thing: the price. A lobster roll here is $19. It's amazing how many reviews for this place fail to mention this. Why? Because I'm not sure I would have trekked down there for a $19 sandwich. Was it worth it? I think that there's a lot of idol worship around lobsters, and I think the science fiction guru Ray Bradbury had it right in "Dandelion Wine" when he had one of the characters say that she had waited so long to eat lobster and once you ate it, it wasn't as good as she expected. For the money, crab is similar and far more delicious. I used to eat a ton of crab until I watched that show "Deadliest Catch". Then I was in an ethical dilemma about how I could justify eating an organism that requires guys to deal with 30 foot swells in freezing weather to catch king crabs. So, for now, lobster it is. The greatest thing about this place (aside from the free valet parking, which isn't free if you are one of the normal people who feel compelled to tip the valet) is that it has a large self-serve section. So, you order at the front, get a numbered receipt, grab a table, and then wait until you hear your number over the PA system. The ambiance of the place is nice. Basically, every waitress in there looks like a cross between an Olympic athlete and a model (no joke, they are all tall, strong, slim, and beautiful). And those women work hard. Really, they kind of look like professional volleyball players who are working at a restaurant to pay the bills. When you're bored of looking at the waitresses, you can look out the back window at people who are trying to cheat death by jumping off the bridge into the little river that runs behind the restaurant. Oh yeah, the food. The best part of the lobster roll is the bread. Say what? No, really. Putting mayo with lobster meat is kind of like putting habenero peppers on foie gras: it overwhelms the delicate flavor of the star of the plate. The lobster roll is big, and the bread is coated with butter and toasted. So, I guess I can't honestly say whether or not the bread itself is really great because you can pretty much take a piece of Wonder Bread, coat it with butter, and toast it, and that puppy is going to taste like you just bought it at Mistral (a great Boston restaurant for sure). Do they give you a fair amount of lobster meat? Definitely. This isn't one of those places which is 50% lobster meat and 40% mayo and 10% mystery ingredient to thicken up the whole thing. They are fair and the lobster was cooked well. But back to the bread... The bread is about twice as large as a standard hot dog bun, and this allows them to pack more of the lobster-mayo combo. I think that the only people who wouldn't like the bun are competitive eaters like hot-dog eating champ Joey Chestnut who likes his buns small and his meat big (okay, get your mind out of the gutter). The kind of shocking thing about the place is if you order appetizers, then they come out on these plates which you expect to see at a fancy restaurant. Somehow, it's a bit out of place in the run-down-Cape-Cod-shack motif that the restaurant is trying to project. There is a full-serve section in the back. But seriously, if you're paying $19 for a lobster roll, you probably should stay in the self-serve section, get off your can and get a little exercise while walking to pick it up and bring it back to your table. This can save a lot on the tip and it's better for your health (although it might not be so great for the waitstaff). Is it worth it? I'm not sure, especially if you use the iPhone Mapquest App which had us driving in an infinite loop around the Bourne Rotary because of a mistake in the spoken navigation commands (the written directions accompanying the spoken commands actually give the correct information). Seriously, I was kind of wondering how many times my friend was going to drive around that rotary before she noticed that she was just doing circles around the same rotary. I stopped counting at 5. I'll have a better idea if it was worth the trip after I go to James Hook and Co. in Boston and try their famous lobster rolls. For now, I'm going to have to say that my close friend who is from Thailand makes this unbelievable version of a Thai fish sauce which is the perfect thing to dip lobster in. It makes liquified butter look as bad as the female Korean, Chinese, and Indonesian badminton players in the Olympics who just threw their matches the other day. That sauce is a real gold medal winner.

I don't understand how this restaurant got these 4 star reviews...we had their chowder before at a function and it was delicious...tonight it was all broth and a couple of piece of potato and not much taste. we got fish and chips and clams and neither had much taste. we are from the NB area so we know what good seafood taste like and it's not anything we had here. the fish and clams were very blah and had no real good flavor to them. I hate to throw away my money but that is what I did with my $45 tonight...want great seafood.....Me and Ed's in NB or Lindsey's and Bailey's in Wareham!

I've gotten a few personal messages about this post, one of which was quite nasty and at least one of which was probably from an employee. That makes me even LESS likely to recommend the place to anyone visiting the area. My review stands. If you disagree, write your own.

Unfortunately had a bad experience here. Food was ok but service was absolutely awful. This place is a lobster shack...not a full service restaurant. And, if you sit in the full service section, you should get full service. We placed our orders and got cold clam chowder. Sent it back and it came back cold. Lunches were served sporadically, by one waitress, when two or three should have helped (we had ten people). One lunch was served and eaten, then the beginner salad showed up. It took a total of 15 minutes for all meals to be delivered. The waitress was great but the support was awful. And then, when the manager showed up, he told us he wouldn't charge us for the chowder and the last two entreees. Really? You're not gonna charge us for the chowder? Well, that's good to know since we sent it back twice because it was COLD. Won't be back to eat here again. As said before, this place should stick to being a lobster shack.

According to Lisa M. We may not have stated the whole story which is completely wrong for her to judge my review when she wasn't a witness. We will definitely not go back due to our experience and especially when the staff curses at you. Hey, people can have their own opinions, but definitely don't talk about something when you weren't there to witness it.
