As advertised, the pizza is reminiscent of pizza in Rome. Obviously, nothing compares to pizza in Rome, but this is a geographically closer and more convenient alternative that reminds me of a time when I ate pizza in the pizza capital of the world.

I live around the corner. I love pizza. I have to say this was awful. I ordered a half pie that was made to order and not sitting around. Even still it was dry and doughy. Really bad pizza. I don't know how anyone gives this 4 or 5 stars.

I don't see what the big deal is, in regards to the price per ounce. This is on Newbury Street, making it one of the cheaper places in the area to get a good, fresh lunch. No, it's not the same as getting a pie at Dirty Water or even one from Picco, but it doesn't try to be. It definitely has the right vibe to attract shoppers, and the high quality ingredients impressed me.

I decided to stop in Scissors And Pie today for lunch to see this new Boston establishment. After ordering the margarita and prosciutto slices I was taken back to the pizza I ate when I visited Italy back in November. This pizza shop is in it's own category, there is nothing like it in Boston. After speaking with the owners of this new shop I was amazed at how much care they put into their ingredients. They really care about their pizza! And were really nice. I can also say that you get what you pay for, which is quality and authentic ingredients. Hopefully Bostonians embrace this new establishment. Time will tell.

The pizza here is thick and flavorful. It is definitely the best pizza I've had in Boston. I prefer to eat mine with a knife and fork like a weirdo, but it makes it less messy that way. This place is a little bit more expensive than your average pizza place, but the quality is definitely worth it. They are also on Newbury street. If you want a cheap pizza place with thin dominos-style pizza, go somewhere else. The people are super nice and I am super impressed with how well-designed the website and seating area is. I would HIGHLY recommend their fried eggplant pizza.

As Italian, I should say that this is the only decent pizza I ate so far in Boston. Thank you for opening this place. I hope they will keep using the quality ingredients that make their pizza so good.

Just discovered this Excellent new and unique pizza. I loved the crust, tried two different veggie pizza they were both terrific. Quality ingredients. Recommend trying it out. Loved the room as well. We will be back on a regular basis. Don't let the name confuse you. Delicious Pizza Pie !!!

Great idea. It reminded me of Italy. The pizza is really good. I recommend trying to get the pies as they come out of the oven. I'll definitely be back here.

i went here for lunch today, and i was very happy with my pizza. like some of the reviews have noted, they don't have traditional slices, but you tell the guy how much you want, and they cut it for you. so one issue is you don't really know the price, since its by weight. but i got the potato and ham pizza, as well as the shrimp and mozzarella pizza. i really liked both, and the crust or bottom was amazing. its close to work, i'll be back even if its a little pricy.

I just tried this pizza, and it is amazing! The dough is unlike anything I ever had before. The ingredients are top notch. I had the COTTO E FUNGI and the DIAVOLA. The flavors of the ingredients permeates the entire slice with its richness. The sauce has so much more flavor than the ordinary sauce you would get at circle pizza place. If you are a pizza lover, you have to give this place a try. There is really no comparison. Enjoy!

A blessing in disguise! I couldn't get through Pico busy delivery # and started to yelp pizza delivery around the neighborhood. I saw Scissors and Pie has good reviews and decided to try and I'm glad I did!!! Delivery took around 25 mins (Pico will take 2 hrs on a wkend) and the delivery man was very friendly. The pizza is yummy with lots of fresh ingredients on it. It's more expensive but totally worth it. I'm writing this review as I'm eating my pie! Yum... I'll definitely check out their stall when I get a chance!

You can't come to Scissors and Pie expecting a typical pizza place. You aren't going to get a thin, greasy, circular pizza for $19.99. If that is what you are looking for, don't come here. Yes it is more expensive than other places, but it is definitely worth it!!! At Scissors and Pie you will get an GREAT tasting pizza with amazingly fresh ingredients. The potato, ham and rosemary pizza is seriously the BEST piece of pizza I have ever had. Not to mention the owners are extremely nice, and the seating moves around to accommodate small or large groups. I love it here.

Went to S & P for the third time today. They seem to be getting even better. They now have more items on the menu, but you go there for the pizza. I have not had any other pizza like it in Boston. Everything tastes fresh and of top quality. The owner Pal is awesome. Very friendly and really cares about the product.

The pizza is insanely overpriced, and it is very difficult to tell how much it will cost. None of the pizzas are labeled by price or by price per pound. You have to have them physically cut a slice and then weigh it in order to figure out how much it will cost. I had a slice of pizza margarita that was about 3" x 3", and cost $4. Yes, it was reasonably tasty, but The Upper Crust services much better pizza which is a better value. I needed to buy another meal after this "meal". The place needs lower prices and clearer prices.

A group of co-workers and I came here for a client meeting and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere. The place is long so, for privacy, we sat towards the back at the very back table. One thing I thoroughly enjoyed was the fact that everything was weighed so I asked to try 3 different pizzas but told the woman exactly how large or small I wanted the slice to be. DELICIOUS! I had the mozzarella, tomatoes, pesto (I think), and basil pizza. The broccoli sausage pizza...and the eggplant pizza. All were delicious!! Would definitely love to come back when I'm in the city again.

I ate here on a Saturday lunch break from a conference down the street. The place is very clean and the staff is quite friendly. The pizza (cut by scissors) is very good. It was fresh and tasted "natural" (vs highly processed). They had a lot of variety in toppings as well.

I was not overly impressed with their pizza. * The crust was WAY too hard to chew! No crust should be that dry and hard. * Not a big selection of pizzas. Four choices only (it's a solely a pizza place, it should have more choices) * I do like the idea of custom-sized cut pieces though * The Staff seemed wonderful. * Prices seemed 'Newbury' reasonable.

Heard about this place a couple weeks ago and since I'm a pizza fanatic I couldn't wait to try it. Went in today for a late lunch and I must say it was delicious! Great service, atmosphere and the pizza was fantastic. I was hesitant to try it cause of the mixed reviews I read on yelp but after going there I learned 2 thing...... 1. Don't always trust everything you read on yelp 2. If you want great pizza go to scissors and pie! And as far as the price... Hello your on Newbury street! Spending $15 on lunch is not breaking the bank especially when it's great food. If you want cheap pizza go to dominos in Dorchester. I love Newbury street in the summertime so I will defiantly go back

I ordered the Margherita & the Formagi & Salame. The Margherita: Meh, more basil than cheese. The Salame taste is undesirable, it also has an unpleasant odor, & texture, as it was undercooked. They put very little Formagi on the pizza. The Sauce: meh, it's just sauce, nothing that stands out. The Crust: The edges were crispy, and overdone, and the middle was soft, and undercooked. It's not 'awful' it's just better than mediocre. I'm sure some of the other pies have beautiful combinations, but the pie itself is not that good. I hope they improve, love the marketing, but the taste does not match their artful site.

The thing that makes this place worth trying is the fact that you can get whatever size piece of their pizzas as you like. They have interesting toppings, so you're able to just ask for a small cut (maybe just a few bites worth) of a couple types and then pay by weight. I tried 2 pizzas, and they were both okay, not the best pizza I've had, but the novelty of trying a few types makes up for that. Definitely worth a try for a casual lunch on Newbury!

4.3 if there was a way to make these pizzas fresh instantaneously, that would make this place a 6 out of 5. the ingredients were fresh and very creative but without being weird. LOVED so many of them. i just wish they could pop out of the oven instantaneously. GREAT helpful staff JEANS: OK by far ORDER: at counter

Pretty good pizza and very nice staff. I liked their idea of charging pizza by the weight and the high speed of giving you the food. I highly recommend this place. My feedback to them is to make their pizzas a little bit thinner but it's still much better than many other places.

I am in love with this concept. They let you choose what kind of pizza you want and you pay by weight. Or you can get a regular slice for around $5. My boyfriend and I bought the Yelp $5 for $10 deal and paid an additional $6 for the pizza we got. We chose to get five different types of pizza to share and left very full and satisfied. Being from Michigan, deep dish pizzas have a special place in my heart. I'm so glad I found a pizza place in Boston that serves delicious, thick and bready pizza. Yum. Reminds me of Jet's Pizza, but less greasy. Sure, the pizza doesn't come out steaming or anything, but the ingredients are fresh and delicious. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, and the overall restaurant is very cute. Definitely a no frills type of place, but they offer unique drinks and the place is very clean. They cut our five choices into halves for me and my boyfriend too without us asking, which I though was extremely thoughtful. Definitely will come back again for their pizza. Ask for the pieces that have crust, it's delicious!

My favorite pizza shop in Boston! WHY? The pies here take a whopping three days to make... And they are totally worth the wait. don't worry! You don't have to order three days ahead of time. Their thick fluffy dough needs time to grow. These boutique pizza slices come with a variety of one of a kind topping combinations and expensive oils. They are also sold by weight, so you can get as small or as large as life as you wish. Stop in just for a small snack. Another unique offering is Foxon Park soda... The same sweet beverage offered at New Haven's famous Pepe's pizza! The deal: this is like no other pizza in Boston. you must simply stop by and try to taste for yourself.

Exorbitant prices for pizza. They weigh each slice, and I paid about $10 for two regular sized slices. They were also served luke warm, and looked like they had been sitting out for a while. Not sure what the hype is about. The staff is incredibly nice though. The bathroom is also really clean.

One of the coolest Ideas I've seen in a while: Choose your pizza portion. They cut your square from the larger pizza according to what size/dimension you want. Grab a big slice of your fave or 2"x2" to try the different flavours. Don't skip out on the dessert pizza (Unless you're watching your calorie intake.) The interior of this place is sweet! In-groove sliding tables/chairs to form the number of chairs you need for your group. Very local feel to the service. Can't wait to come back and try the salmon slice.

I have had better pizza but don't get me wrong this place is pretty good. It is a little pricy $4.50 for a small slice, but their add said that they will change your view on thick crust pizza, and they were right despite the fact that their pizza crust is thick it was very light and airy. The waiter also gave me an extra slice for free; he didn't have to do that. There are better pizza places in Boston and on Newbury street. If you are in the mood for thick(er) crust, I would try it, but explore your options first.

  • Jessica L.

Definitely more expensive than other places, but I mean, you're on Newbury, what do you expect... I love the concept of asking them to cut you a specific size. They were also very understanding when I asked if I can get a middle portion because I don't like crusts on pizzas. Anyways, I used the Yelp coupon where you can get $10 worth of things for $5, so my friend and I ended up $5, which is better than nothing. Anyways, let's get to the food. If you're looking for a quick meal, this is the place to go. The pizza is already pre-made, you choose the kind or kinds your want, they ask you about how big a piece you want, and you pay by weight. I got two slices, one of the potato, ham, etc. one and another one that had cherry tomatoes, prosciutto, etc. I personally liked the cherry tomatoes + proscuitto + arugular one better, but the potato one was interesting, and definitely more filling. Eating the pizza can be a bit difficult if you get a middle piece since you don't have the crust to hold onto, but if you don't mind your hands getting dirty, it was fine. They also have utensils in the corner, but its plastic...so not very helpful lol All in all, I thought the pizzas were great. The price is expensive, but it was not a surprise so that was fine. And finally, the atmosphere of the place was wonderful. Great modern interior and very friendly staff.

Fresh ingredients, airy crust and cut with scissors. The concept is cool but the flavor is lacking. The unique line of bottled sodas was the best part.

I haven't had pizza this fresh and flavorful since I studied abroad in Italy. Great staff and service, you can tell the employees really care about the quality of the food and your experience. My boyfriend and I went in for the free sample and stayed for two slices. Margherita's sauce was delicious topped with fresh basil and eggplant parm was to die for. Can't wait to come back!

My wife and I recently at here. The pizza here is delicious and unique. I love the fact that you can choose to taste as many different types of pizza as you want and get exactly the portion size that you want. The Roman style crust is a little puffier than normal crush which allows it to absorb some of the flavor of the various ingredients. We tasted several slices one with artichokes and other veggies, one with broccoli and sausage, one with prosciutto and potatoes, one with various mushrooms and of course the classic margherita. All were good, but I think the mushroom and artichoke pizzas were our favorites. I like to eat. I ordered enough pizza to feel more than satisfied and my total came out to around $10... I could have gotten less and still felt satisfied, but I wanted to taste more. Given the quality of the ingredients they use and the delicious product delivered, I don't understand all of the complaints about the price. You have to pay for quality and for me the price is a reasonable value. I would love to see this place get a beer and wine license, but I know that's expensive... We will be back!

Scissors and Pie was a fantastic place to eat. The pizza was superb - good, thick crust, fresh toppings, high-quality cheeses and olive oil. The staff was helpful, and since the pizza is prepared beforehand and sold by weight, we were able to get the exact amounts we wanted of each pizza we decided to try. They also sell a bottled soda that I've never seen before but enjoyed very much. They also had a tasteful and enjoyable selection of music playing in the background, and it was played at exactly the right volume. I didn't expect to be so enthusiastic about a place I stopped into off the street; I just hoped for some palatable pizza. I'm pleased to recommend this local pizzeria whole heartedly, and the best part is that it's affordable, so you have nothing to lose by giving it a spin.

Terrific pizza and an even better prosciutto sandwich with tomato arugula and mozzarella that transported me to Italy. They bake the homemade bread dough on the spot and it takes 2 minutes to bake the crispy light and revelatory bread to order, which is then drizzled with EVOO and filled with thinly sliced fresh prosciutto, peppery arugula, sweet and juicy tomato slices, and creamy buffalo mozzarella. Service was exceptional too. Very impressed.

Amazing service, I'm going to buy a nice slice of pizza and the credit card doesn't work and the service guy tell me, " ok take it and came back another day to Pay me". I could not believe I was very grateful. finally had a 20 dollars and pay for the slice.

I like that somebody else called this "Newbury reasonable"...that pretty much sums it up. It's pricey for what you get, but at the same time where else on Newbury will you be able to get lunch for ~$10? I came in here a few months ago when they just opened, and the owner (?) was extremely friendly and helpful. She explained all of the pizza varieties and was eager to answer any questions. Unfortunately she grossly under-estimated the cost of the size slice she had described. It ended up coming to something like $6 after she had told me it would be around $3.50 or $4. I paid for it without raising a stink, but it was somewhat annoying. Seems like the personalized-size thing can be both a blessing and a curse, since you're able to order exactly as much food as you want, but it's hard to know how much it will cost until they cut it and weigh it. Tasted good, though. If I happen to be back on Newbury and need a quick bite to eat, I would probably try it again.

Food is decent, but it is so overpriced. Ultimately, I think that is their draw though. People automatically equate high prices with quality. Also, if you want to see the most smug website for a pizza place ever, with ridiculously cliched photography, check out their page.

The online site promises great things. I am not disappointed. The interior is modern without being cold and the sliding tables make it easy to sit with your group or a two some. the selections are inventive and ok as good as the taste. I got the mozzarella, prosciutto, arugula with pesto...yum to the tenth power. And a small slice of eggplant parm. Also good. Crust not too skinny and not too thick. Perfect for a quick meal while shopping or on your way home.

Been here a few times thanks to the LivingSocial multi-visit deal. Note: recently within the past month they changed from pay-by-weight to pay-per-slice (or what I like to call pay-per-petzo -- all prices pre-tax): -- Margherita: $5.00 for a 4"x6" slice, $3 for a half slice -- All other toppings: $5.50 for a 4"x6" slice, $3.50 for a half slice -- Half trays (6 slices) range from $20 (margherita) to $25 (almost everything else) Frankly I liked the pay-per-weight system better -- sure, it makes cutting the pizza easier and packing it a little less like a round of Tetris, but part of the charm of this place was customizing how much crust I wanted on my slices and being able to run the gamut from getting small sampler slices of all toppings available that day to getting my favorite slices as big as my face (fig & prosciutto YESSS). Now the only times the staff pull out scissors are to cut freshly baked pizza and to give someone the pair that's attached to the bathroom key. Compendium of toppings I've tried to date (rated on a scale of ! to !!!!!): -- ? margherita - they gave out 2"x3" samples but mine was cold and missing the basil -- ! parmiggiana (roasted eggplant/parmesan) - not enough garlic sauce and eggplant was almost rubbery -- ! pomodorini gamberi (tomato/shrimp/arugula/pesto) - great flavors, but shrimp was dry and not a single one stayed on my slice. Best eaten over a plate. -- ! cotto e patate (prosciutto cotto & potato) - in the three times I've been here I've never seen this one made with "thinly sliced roasted potato" as listed on their website, just mashed potato. Not a fan of the texture of mashed potato on pizza. -- !! pomodorini (tomato/arugula/pesto/parmesan) - a solid salad pizza -- !! the one with fried breaded eggplant -- !! artichoke & peppers -- !!! diavolo (prosciutto) -- !!!! sausage & broccoli - plenty of both -- !!!!!!! fig & prosciutto !!!!!!! (a dessert pizza that convinced me sweet pizza could be good, this had fig jelly instead of sauce - wish this one was available more often) Honestly, this pizza is mediocre if you're eating it right away since it doesn't get reheated enough in-store, but the oil-drizzled crust gets a lot better after a pass through a toaster oven!

Hands down the best pizza in boston. My favorite is the pesto fresh mozzarella arugula and tomatoes. Yes it's a little pricier than your average pizza pie but you're getting what you're paying for. Try it! I promise you won't be disappointed.

  • Kevin W.

Went here for a "slice" and was disappointed with the quality, value and experience. Cutting the pizza with scissors was cute but felt a little gimmicky. I won't be coming back. I'd rather spend my money @ Dirty Water. side note... Ali M. considers anyone who doesn't agree with her to be uneducated and poor. Spending a couple of months in Europe doesn't make you a pizza expert anymore than eating a bunch of hot pockets makes you an expert on calzones. I'm not sure where you can find a $2 slice anymore. I'm pretty sure $3-$4 is the going rate. However, people were commenting on the value of what they received in return and it's truly unacceptable.

It was the day before New Years I was cold and hungry. Wanted comfort food and was on Newbury street. Pizza was my first choice Excellent crusty and crunchy crust. I had the sausage and tomato pizza and was completely satisfied. So tasty. Will definitely come back

SCISSORS AND LIES!! There is no way that any of the positive reviews of this place could have been posted by sane people or by people other than employees of Scissors and Pie. It is by far the WORST pizza I think I have ever had in my life. Our company orders from them for corporate events so I have had the unfortunate displeasure of eating this food multiple times. Every time they say, "lunch will be catered," I think: Ok, great! Don't have to pack a lunch today! Then I cross my fingers and hope to high pizza heaven that it's not from Scissors and Pie. And I make bets with my coworkers on whether we will be eating well or eating from Scissors and Pie. And then everybody dies a little when we walk in and see that the conference table is covered in the limp, soggy, tasteless barf squares (I don't think it even deserves to be called pizza) from Scissors and Pie. Ok maybe this is turning into a bit of a rant on my company (Shame on you, company!!) and maybe I should just admit to myself that we're probably never ordering from Sam LaGrassa's ever again (I cry) but back to the point .. If the barf squares are bad, the side dishes are worse. The salads are as bland and unimaginative as they come. Think iceberg lettuce with a glob of way-too-thick Italian dressing on the side. The one time my company decided to order a salad with croutons in it was the worst. They were so soggy and water logged by the time they got to us that they were disintegrating into the salad. Put the croutons on the side, Scissors and Pie!! So at this point I'm already pretty grossed out by this food but I grin and bear it and eat it in front of my bosses because I'm a company man and I want the company to think that I like the food they give me so that they will also give me a promotion. But THEN I found out how much the barf squares and the soggy salads cost and OH MY GOD WHAT THE WHAT?!?!?! If you're going to charge that much for a pizza, please change your recipes stat. I'd recommend a little oregano for starters .. perhaps a sauce that you can taste when you bite into the pizza .. different dough altogether? I NEED TO EAT THIS PIZZA TO GET A PROMOTION FOR GOODNESS SAKE! Help a brother out and do your part to make my corporate climb a little easier, would ya?

The intrigue of the concept of pizza-by-weight was enough to get me into Scissors and Pie. They had a nice variety of toppings to choose from, and the guy behind the counter was happy to take me through them. Like others have mentioned, the pizza is moderately pricey, but I not quite outrageous -- I paid about $12 for 3 medium -sized squares. The pizzas actually seemed like they could be pretty good, but I found that they were a bit lukewarm and not reheated adequately, so that might have negatively influenced my palate.

Went here for lunch yesterday and the pizza was amazing. Their bread/crust could possibly be the best I've had. All the different styles were great, though my favorite was the pesto. Also of note, the staff was incredibly friendly.

Ate at Scissors and Pie while waiting to do business nearby. A woman was holding a box displaying a variety of their pizzas, and I thought, why not?! The eggplant/veggie pizza was fantastic, and I love their soda selection. An impromptu pizza and root beer made for an excellent and unexpected lunch on Newbury.

I love all the little things...from the cleanliness, the friendliness of employees, the seating, decor, the way pizza is cut and weighed. The shop is CLEAN. You can see everything behind the counter so there's no mystery. The tables and seats are wiped down often. The decor is very chic with the bamboo tables/chairs and wood panels above. Also very clever is the way the seats/tables slide so you can move the tables together if you have a bigger group. The guy behind the counter was friendly and patient as my parents and I were asking him what things were and how the whole thing works. See, we got the Living Social deal a while back and didn't know the deal. The vouchers were for $12 each so he asks us how many slices so he can guestimate how big the slices should be. A couple slices he cut the crusts off the sides which nice of him to not charge us for the bready parts. The idea is simple...you tell them what you want, how much, they cut the pizza and throw it in to the oven to reheat. Our slices were served hot on thick wood pizza boards (seems more decorative than meant for the oven). The 3 of us tried all the different pizzas available. They were all very tasty. Not the best pizza ever but was happy to try different toppings. *Vegetarian was my favorite. loaded with different veggie toppings and flavorful. thick and juicy slice. *Cotto e Patate...had higher hopes. I love potatoes but could have been roasted with some herbs then placed on the pizza *Margherita was decent, probably my second preferred slice *Porcini Melanzane e Bufala was heavy and filling. it's like a comfort slice. *Salsiccia e Broccoli - the sausages are flat and has a bit of kick to it. maybe not what i was expecting so it was just alright. I don't recall names of other ones but there's 2 more with prosciutto. The more plain looking one was a bit salty. The other slices I had were alright...better than an oily cheesy slice from the local place. The guy that cut our pizza was personable and asked us what we think and where we're from. I can't comment on the price since I got a Living Social deal and it was very inexpensive. Overall a good experience and would visit again. Wish they open on Sundays. Nice location in the middle of Newbury, just a few steps down for a casual slice.

Owners and staff were extremely friendly and you could tell they were very passionate about their pizza. I loved the different combinations of pies and the fact they had Foxon Park soda, which is impossible to get in Boston! I'm typically a thin crust type of guy, but whenever I'm looking for a thick crust, artisan pizza, this is my spot.

The pizza is delicious. The crust is light and fluffy. I got the margarita slice. Wish they had eggplant available. The price is based on weight. I'd go back.

I would eat here again. It's quick, easy, and pretty tasty. It offers a new approach to pizza as it baked in a sheet pan and cut with scissors. You pay for the amount of pizza cut or the weight but I don't see the value versus traditional pizza slices ... But we are on newburry street. The pizza flavors are unique as it is concepted with roman flavors. Don't come here expecting pepperoni. The margarita pizza was good same with sausage and broccoli. I was slightly disappointed it wasn't very hot. Using a knife and fork would help with bigger portions.

Had a chance to taste the pizza at Scissors & Pie last evening, and it was really delicious. The dough is light and airy, almost like focaccia, and is totally different and, in my humble opinion, of a better quality than typically round pizza dough. The sauce, cheese and toppings are all of exceptional quality. It's a splendid and unique pizza experience. I tried a sausage, sopresatta, and green olive pizza, the potato and prosciutto cotto, the radicchio and artichoke with gorgonzola, and the eggplant and porcini - all of them tasted great. I'll be back soon. The atmosphere and service experience are unique and different - as others have said, it's more of an Italian style pizza concept. I enjoyed it, and also thought it was a classy, quick service, top quality food experience.

So overnight several more reviews popped up all at once, most of them rookie yelpers and all saying the same generic thing and rating this place 5 stars. It appears that instead of responding to my initial review the owner decided to have his family members or employees put up phony reviews, all of which hype up the "fresh ingredients" and the "unique pizza". It's almost comical how obvious and desperate it seems. I can tell all of Back Bay is talking about this new place and how it's so fricken expensive. You've lost all your locals, but maybe you'll snag a few naive tourists?

Some have complained about the prices but this isn't normal pizza. If you're looking for normal pizza this is definitely not the place for you. This is essentially a selection of entrees on dough - and that dough is delicious. For $10 I had three different kinds of pizza (broccoli and sausage, potato and ham, and eggplant parmiggiana) and they were all delicious. Rather than selling you a "slice" they cut the size of pizza that you want from the pan, weigh it and sell you that - so you don't have to choose between one slice, two slice, etc. you can choose based on exactly how much pizza you want. The place itself is new and well-designed.

I felt spoiled senseless the first time I walked into s&p! gourmet pizza after gourmet pizza were on display generously heaped with fresh, delectable toppings. I felt like they were staring me down, daring me to eat them. but there were too many to try! what to do? what to choose? I have a strong fear of missing out coupled with eyes that have been known to be larger than my tummy... turns out that wasn't an issue here! I didn't have to worry about loading up on slice after slice-I could have a mini snip of margherita, another of vegetarian and a huge petzo of pancetta & asparagus (my favorite). to my delight each petzo was cut with scissors - just as it's done in Rome. having never been to Italy I was thrilled with my little history lesson! still couldn't finish everything... no biggie I brought it home in hopes of a yummy lunch the following day. no soggy second day crust here, people! dare I say it was even better after marinating for a minute? I do, indeed! great service & pizza. guess I coulda just said that at the beginning.

SO EXCITED TO FINALLY HAVE TRUE ITALIAN PIZZA IN THE SOUTH END/BACK BAY! Sure you can get a $4 slice at New york/Dirty Water and sometimes that's all you need. But that's not what this is about. After spending a significant amount of time in Italy I fell in love with the dough/crust and style... to see someone willing to spend the money to import the ingredients is such a breath of fresh air. The owners are so polite, and encourage constructive criticism and are really open to responding and making changes to impress and ensure you leave happy. Within 10 seconds of speaking to the owners you can really feel their passion and I truly respect that! So all that is good and well, but how's the pizza?! INCREDIBLE! If you haven't had authentic Italian Pizza and don't have time to go to Italy, this is a "no brainer". I do understand the concern people are having with the price. It can be intimidating walking in and not understanding how much you get for an ounce, but they've addressed that by setting out a sample size and price tag next to it. In short: All scissor gimmicks aside, this is the best Pizza I have truly had outside of Italy, and it's refreshing to see it make it's way into the neighborhood. True passion, fair pricing for Newbury Street and fantastic quality. GO TRY THIS NOW!!

Best Roman-style pizza I've had around here! Owners are super friendly, too. I recommend it. FYI--roman pizza is sold by weight, so they'll cut off what you want from the pie.

Great idea. Seemed a bit over-priced, but the quality was high. I recommend going for sure. They have a great variety of pizza for sure!

Great find, friendly staff, really cool and innovative interior design, and yummy pizza! It was my last night in Boston, during my very first trip to the east coast and my mom and I were looking for somewhere to eat that was open pretty late. We were staying at the Newbury Guest House (which we also loved), and walked right on over based on great Yelp reviews. We got "slices' of the Marguerite and the Cotto E Palate. Both were delicious and fresh! The flavors of the toppings all melded really well together, and the crust was nice and thick (but not TOO thick). It was the end of the night and they were closing up, and the owner approached us to ask us how we liked the place and the food. We told him how much we really liked it, and we ended up talking to him for a few minutes about Boston, pizza, and travel. Great experience all around :)

The pizza here is great! Friendly staff, inviting space and pizza that is made with care. Can't wait to go back!

Went again today, just as awesome as last visit. Yes the pizza here costs more than Domino's, so If cost is all you care about go there. But if you know great pizza and understand that quality costs more, by all means try this place. I spent 9 bucks on two slices, did I care? No, because the pizza is miles better than anything else around. I don't consider it expensive, I consider it good value for money. It's that good!

Move over Pizza Regina, there's a new monarch in town and its name is Scissors and Pie. Located on swanky Newbury Street, a visit to Scissors and Pie is a truly Roman pizza experience, replete with its hip, urban setting. Served al taglio, or cut to your preference, a customer points at the desired variety of pizza, and in true Roman style, gestures to say "a little bigger," or, "a little smaller," or, "just a taste of that one." Having lived in Rome for years, I met the news of Scissors and Pie's opening with both enthusiasm and apprehension, the latter owing to the sad scarcity of good pizza places in and around Boston. But there is a new season upon us, and spring 2014 brings with it tidings of great pizza. I waited a respectable three weeks after the opening to pay my first visit--three weeks too long. The way to judge a good pizza restaurant is generally by their margherita-style pie: one bite was all it took to convince me that something special is happening in Boston. Scissors and Pie has recruited a genuine Roman chef to prepare its glorious sheet-style pies and it shows, not only in the visual beauty of the pies, but in every bite you take of the impressive variety of choices. For about $6.50 I dined on a healthy portion of the margherita, a smaller portion of the broccoli and sausage, and a sampling of the potato and prosciutto cotte. I cannot tell you which I liked best but the margherita will occupy my thoughts for the remainder of the week. The design of the restaurant is deserving of 5 stars all on its own. A contemporary/urban feel, the space has a decidedly Euro feel--very hip, very cool. We were helped by the owners, Paulo and Mitch, among the friendliest proprietors I have encountered in Boston. From them I learned that the ingredients are imported straight from Italy (and so are the ovens!) and that everything is prepared on site. Some may think the price point is slightly high, you pay by the weight of your food, but for this very happy palate, it's well worth the extra few dollars.

First let me clear up a misconception that some (probably uneducated people) have about the the way this place serves their pizza. Pizza by the ounce is the only way that europeans price pizza and they are trying to introduce that concept here. I understand that this is not the American way but don't go freaking out and blaming the pizza because the pizza was fantastic and if people didnt introduce things from other cultures you would not even have pizza to begin with. Newbury st is for high class people who deserve higher class pizza not just your greasy $2 by the slice stuff. Having spent months in Europe I can tell you this stuff is pretty darn authentic. The pizza has the real sicily crust which is made with actual wholesome ingredients. Also, the toppings are not greasy and they are really put together well. You can't put a price on quality. If you are looking for a quick greasy $2 pizza dont come here. If you are looking for quality pizza that you will actually feel good about eating, this is your spot. Furthermore, the owner was probably one of the nicest people I have ever met in my life. I am a south end local and this place is absolutely one of the better pizza places I have ever had the pleasure of eating at.

They serve pizza by the OUNCE!? I mean close to $4.00 and it's the size of a pack of gum, CMON! But cheese is the cheapest you can get, which is obviously common. Now if i wanted to get pizza with toppings on it, the price would be more. Not going to pay $5+ for a one good slice of pizza. I'd rather go to my other favorite pizza place (I've been going to this place ever since the restaurant changed its name on Newbury) for better quantity and quality pizza. BUT service was excellent and friendly. As far as the atmosphere it was really nice, more seating and bigger than Bostone Pizza (loved going to that pizza place), Sorry guys but you get a one star unless you change up your price menu. Well, I was about to stop by today to try their pizza, but apparently they were CLOSED today. How come? It was Monday during regular business hours (11AM-10PM is what stated on yelp). I didn't see a sign saying something about being closed for just today. I was like really... So I went to my favorite pizza place, Dirty Water. GREAT PIZZA!

This place is really good, and definitely in my top five for lunch in Back Bay. As other reviewers mentioned, their dough takes a few days to make as they actually let it develop its flavor unlike most of the pizzerias in this city. You can taste the quality in the ingredients here and the variety of pies is really big. They lost a star from me for the tendency of their slices to be lukewarm, but hopefully they can improve on that in the future! Very speedy operation and nice interior design as well. Check it out!

They make an amazing panini with mozzarella, tomatoes, arugula and prosciutto that is to die for. Their Nutella and fruits pizza slices are delicious.

Excellent pizza! As someone who is lactose intolerant, I can say this is worth the discomfort. Definitely worth a visit if you are walking/shopping along Newbury street. Very friendly staff. Nice place as well.

This place is amazing!!! Boston seriously needed a good, authentic Italian pizza place. Delicious pizza, fresh flavorful ingredients, and not overly cheesy--- well-seasoned, with great flavor combinations. Plus you can get a little of several different kinds and share with your friends. This is quite possibly the best pizza I've had in Boston. The chefs are friendly and go through the whole array of flavors, and they cut however big or small a piece you want. Atmosphere is rustic, a little funky, and not too loud. We will definitely come back!

Fantastic addition to the neighborhood. I like the selling-pizza-by-weight bit, and the pizza is delicious and above all very, very creative. The owner is really friendly and clearly proud of his pizza, which I appreciated. Good selection of interesting sodas, too. Can't think of a complaint -- I'll definitely be back!!!

I went in on a coupon I got in the mail with my girlfriend. The place is very clean and the staff is excellent. It appears to be family run which is evident in the great service and friendly staff. Yes, it is a bit more on the expensive side without a coupon than your average slice of pizza, but the quality is excellent and given the location is on Newbury Street and it is a bit of a novelty I can justify it. Overall my experience was excellent.

Fast casual. Authentic Italian Pizza. Quality ingredients. Extremely nice owners. Some-what expensive. I tried Scissors and Pie after I purchased the Living Social deal, and I decided to write a review after I used all my vouchers. The food: the pizza is authentic Italian pizza, and made with high quality ingredients. Often, when I eat pizza, I feel like I am eating junk food, but not here. My favorite slice is the Cotto E Palate, which nicely blends mozzarella, cotto (ham), and potatos; the potato was extremely soft and paired nicely with the other ingrediants. I wish they made sandwiches, since the only good Italian sandwich place is Formaggio's in the South End (aside from the Northe End of course). Location: Tucked on the ground floor, its easy to miss this place. Newbury street is dominated by sit-down restaurents, so its nice to have another fast casual place. Price: Yea, this place is some-what expensive for pizza. You'll probably drop $10 for pizza here. But compare this to the other fast casual places in the Back Bay, such as Panera, Rebeccas, Au Bon Pain, Pret a Manger, the prices are in-line with the market. Staff: The owners and staff are just so nice. I wouldn't write this review if they weren't. Suggestions: Make sandwiches since there already have high quality ingrediants. Offer coffee/espresso/lattes and wifi so locals can come here like they would at Panera/Starbucks (i'm hate how Starbucks is always so crowded). Maybe offer a grab bag for the lunch crowd - i.e. slice of pizza, chips, drink for a $6/7.

Stopped in last night to try this new local spot. I've spent time in Italy and was excited to hear that a "pizza al taglio" place has opened up. The owners, who were very friendly, let us know that they had a margherita baking in the oven, which would be a 10 minute wait. We snacked on a bit of the porcini/eggplant while we waited, which was tasty. They definitely did not skimp on the toppings, and it had good flavor. Only critique is that it was a tad bit oily. The wait for the fresh margherita was well-worth it. It's clear that the ingredients (mozz, basil, etc) are very fresh and top-quality. The sauce was extraordinary. I'd buy a jar of it, which speaks loudly because I almost always make my own sauce. The crust was also a perfect thickness - not as thick as your average slice of Americian "Sicilian" pie, which I often find to be too much, but not too thin, either. The margherita is a must have when you come here. The owners succeeded in capturing the Italian "pizza al taglio" taste, and I will definitely will be back. There's nothing like it in the neighborhood, and once they get beer and wine, it will be even more Italian!

I stopped in last weekend around lunchtime for a quick bite. We were walking down Newbury Street and most restaurants had a long wait, given that it was Noon and a beautiful day in Boston. Surprisingly, Scissors Pie was empty. This was a bit concerning but we stopped in anyways. The pizza and calzone were excellent quality and the staff was very friendly. The decor was kinda cool, like it would be a good place to hang out with a bunch of friends. As mentioned by others, the prices are expensive ($12 for a small calzone and small slice of pizza) but we enjoyed our meal and were on our way. And we didn't have to wait for a table. They were playing some decent music too. But the weather was too nice to sit inside. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here, but will stop here again at some point.

My boyfriend and I have come here twice and in those two visits were able to try 5 different pizzas, all of which were fantastic! I love the new concept of using scissors to cut pizza and I think that every ounce is absolutely worth the price. The ingredients are unfailingly fresh and the sauce is so flavorful, just the way I like it! If you're looking for something new, different and fun, Scissors and Pie is the place to go! I would recommend this place to everyone and anyone out there who appreciates quality food. It's also important to note that what makes the experience here even better is the customer service. The owners genuinely care to gear what you think about the food, the place and how they're running it and they are open to suggestions. They admit to their imperfections but I think they are doing wonderfully, given that they are taking such a risk and learning along the way. I commend how they have been running the business thus far and I will undoubtedly come back for more. The pizzas I've tried and loved so far: -salmon, arugula and lemon - vegetarian (portabella mushrooms, eggplant, onions, etc.) -caprese with shrimp -sausage and broccoli -potato and prosciutto I honestly believe that every pizza is delicious, I've tried enough of them to know that!

After fair warning about the prices, I thought I'd give Scissors and Pie a shot anyway. I mean, it is located in the spot that was home to my beloved Bostone Pizza so, it can't be all that bad. I went in mid-week for lunch. Granted, I was there slightly before 12 noon but the place was deserted...but hey, it's a new spot, maybe folks haven't heard about it. I'll admit, the pizza looked soooo good! I was hopeful. I figured $10 bucks on a couple of slices and a drink wouldn't be too bad. The super nice server explained to me the deal. I tell her how much I want, she cuts it with gigantic scissors, she weighs it, I pay, then lunch is served. So I got two slices about the size of an old Bostone slice. One was a traditional Margherita and the other was a spicy sausage with OLIVES (my fav) and some other stuff...red peppers I think. Since the pizzas were right out of the oven, the sever opted not to heat them assuring me they were nice and hot already. I grabbed a neon green lemon line soda to complete the meal. While I was waiting to pay a woman came in and mentioned how she had pizza like this in Rome. She seemed super excited. Anyway, the server told me my total...$14.89 and I, wait, what? $15 for two slices and a soda. I figured this would be the best pizza of my life. About 3 minutes later I was back at work getting my grub on. Was this the best pizza of my life. Not even close. It was cold and the dough was a bit too...bready...like focaccia bread bready. The toppings where pretty standard. The spicy sausage combo was inventive but fell short in flavor. Overall, I was pretty disappointed. As a long time Back Bay resident/worker I cannot imagine this place will last long with the locals. I've been getting my pizza on in Back Bay for about 5 years now so I know my BB pizza. For $15 I would rather fight the high school student rush and get an entire pie at Scoozi, than two cold slices as Scissors and Pie.

Wow, have to agree with some other honest commenters below that the sudden flood of 5 star ratings on the same day, all saying "this is like the pizza in Rome!" are probably friends of the owner. I've also been to Rome, many times, and the pizza there is good and quite affordable compared to what you get here.

  • Joanne D.

I agree with most people who think the pizza is over priced. Pizza in my opinion is dough with some topping and cheese on top and should be a quick easy meal. If I am paying that much, I prefer a sit in dining. The pizza tastes fine to me but not spectacular enough to deserve the price. I also disagree with the whole weighing my pizza concept. I think the business model is not good and this shop will probably not last on Newbury St.

I love this place- it reaches far beyond your average pizzeria. The ingredients taste incredibly fresh, and the crust to sauce to cheese ratio is spot on. The eggplant pizza is not to be missed!

I had the opportunity to try the pizza from the new and highly anticipated Scissors and Pie today. It was delicious. You can really tell that they are using quality ingredients. The crust is perfect and their signature sauce is reminiscent of sauce I've had in Italy. Since you're able to choose the size of your portion it makes it easy to try a few different varieties! Overall this is a really nice upscale pizza place, and a welcome addition to the neighborhood.

We've had Scissors and Pie cater in at our office twice in the past month or so. I had never heard of it, so I looked it up and was astonished to find so many stellar reviews. I found it to be mediocre at best--so thick it's hard to eat and toppings just fall off. Once the novelty of having your pizza cut with scissors and selling it by the pound wears off, I won't be surprised to see business and reviews tail off considerably. Way overrated and definitely not worth it.
