COME HERE AND EAT It's always a good sign for an asian fusion place when there are actual Chinese people eating there too and it isn't just a bunch of clueless white people. They had actual asians paying money to eat here... so it's good. Double awesome: appropriately named as it is more than just awesome. Eat it. gooey, messy, comforting, not too heavy because the pesto (whatever than green stuff is) brightens everything up. The pumpkin fritters with cardamum sauce: sweet, fluffy, not too oily, not too sweet I'm always really excited to see someone use cardamum. Steam bun with pumpkin butter These are some well made buns. Buns of Yum. Get yourself some. Perfect fluffy texture.. I don't even like empty bread but these are like bread clouds. Eat them.

very good creative dishes we had a little bit of everything as it is a tapas style menu the chorizo dumplings were amazing my dining companions had suggested the place because they had read about it and wanted the double awesome which they were not serving at that time and they still made it for them which i thought was wicked nice the dessert was a study in simplicity and yet delicious only sad thing for me was that there was no coffee to accompany it with

BF found this place on Yelp. They were great in terms of being able to give us table for 12 people. In looking at reviews - everyone said this was an asian restaurant - truthfully it's not really - yes there are some asian influences but not really. As we were informed that this was tapas style, we had ordered a whole bunch of dishes (however, there really isn't that many choices). We tried the following: - Pierogi dumplings - Fried little fish (with corn pancakes) - Porky Mac & Cheese - Lamb Jajang noodles - Irene's fried rice - Rib Tips - Steamed buns - Sweet Corn fritters Our friends said that the Fried little fish (with corn pancakes) was good - very tasty. We were also informed that the buns were good - but for an Asian, $6 for 2 steamed buns is quite expensive! The lamb jajang noodles were good - really just meat sauce and ramen noodles. It was very flavourful! Don't recommend the fried rice - it's black rice with some veggies but it has a very gamey white sauce that came on top of it. Didn't try the rib tips but it looked amazing!

Came here for lunch a few days ago and ordered the Soy Ginger Noodle Salad to go. The girl at the counter described the dish as light and refreshing, the dish was anything but. It was mushy ramen noodles (I am unsure if they were house made or maybe fresh out of a 25 cent maruchan packet) mixed with peanuts and a hodgepodge of unidentifiable shredded veg and a few tofu cubes. The dish was completely lacking in flavor; not salty, sweet, spicy or vinegary--FLAVORLESS. The texture and flavor were so lacking and subpar I could only eat a few bites before throwing the box out. And at $8, it wasn't exactly a cheap lunch either. So disappointed.

This place is going downhill fast. It used to be good. Today I had a horrible experience: - I called ahead of time to place an order. Employee on the other end starts complaining that she did not know how to use the order system and I spend several minutes listening to employees training each other. I finally order the double awesome with bacon and corn fritters. - I arrived to a line out the door. Employee at register was very slow. Finally got to the front and paid for my order. Employee then gives me blank stare and begins to help next person in line. When can I get my food? Unclear. How do I get my food? Unclear.. - I wait for something to happen. Eventually a guy yells my name and I get my order. I go to the 7/11 next door to eat as there are no tables available. - The double awesome is missing the most important ingredient - bacon. I think about going back but the line is so long I would run out of time. I start eating the bacon less double awesome to discover that the egg is not only completely raw but also still cold from the refrigerator. Yuck. - I give up on double awesome and move to corn fritter. It is a ball of dough with literally 3 corn kernels in it. Tastes nothing of corn or any seasoning at all. Yuck.

Absolutely delicious. Love the fusion-y menu! I had to take a bit to study the menu because everything seemed so incredibly interesting and tasty. It can be tapas style if you want it to be, so my friend and I split the perogies and ribs. So. Good. They're culinary geniuses over there.

After living in the neighborhood since August, I finally made my way over to Mei Mei for lunch. I had heard so many great things and couldn't wait to try it out. My friend and I got there before the lunch rush (11:30am) so we were able to order and find a place to sit pretty easily, but it definitely filled up around noon. At the suggestion of the cashier, we decided to split the signature Double Awesome and the charred cabbage salad--they ended up throwing in some cooked greens as well. The Double Awesome was an interesting dish. The scallion pancake was well-cooked and flavorful, but I felt that the ingredients inside were not my absolute favorite combination. Nonetheless, it was a very solid dish that my friend really enjoyed. I didn't know what to expect from the cabbage salad, but it was actually my favorite part of the meal. Very light and refreshing and a decent size as well--the apples really add a nice freshness and the texture of the dish is great. The greens were a nice touch as well and came with fried onions that really complimented the vegetable well. Overall, this is a great little neighborhood spot that serves up quality food for a good price. They also serve alcohol, including beer on draught, so not a bad place to grab a drink as well.

Loved this place when I went (about a year ago) and was thinking about it now and remembered I never reviewed it!! It just goes to show how great this place is that I'm still dreaming of sriracha rice a year later. I had the dumplings w sriracha rice and some sort of egg tortilla, both were AMAZING. service was friendly and location is adorable.

The Double awesome was one of the most delicious ways I have ever had my eggs. I liked that it was loaded with pesto, my favorite! I couldn't taste that there was any cheddar cheese on mine. Maybe they forgot it? Anyways it was so tasty it didn't matter. My daughter ordered the same thing and loved it. New favorite restaurant!

Meh. The restaurant is well decorated. Very hipster. Service is also top notch. The food is also good. I just feel this restaurant is punching above it's weight class. The food is really expensive for what you get. I ordered an $18.00 shrimp fish that came with only five shrimp. Moreover, I ordered some steamed buns, which cost $7.00. They didn't have any pork inside? Basically, my disappointment arises from the super small portions and high price. I thought this was a food truck restaurant. Why is everything so expensive and why are the portions so small. Honestly, I feel I've had better meals at PF Changs. I review this restaurant as if it were what it holds itself out to be: a hip asian fusion joint. That's why I'm disappointed. If I were planning on going to a fancy shmancy place, then I suppose I wouldn't be disappointed. But clearly, this restaurant is not pursuing three Michelin stars, so I don't understand why their prices are "too damn high!"

Finally popped in here with b. early last month on a hot summer afternoon. Loved their wall/menu art! We shared a: Iced Jasmine Tea (cold-brewed from Little Red Cup) Refreshing but I'm just used to drinking my jasmine tea hot. Double Awesome (scallion pancake with local greens pesto, VT cheddar, & two slow-poached then fried eggs) The scallion pancake was definitely awesome - flaky, slightly crispy, and not too greasy. The pesto was a little overwhelming in its flavor - too much spinach for me. The eggs were great paired with the sriracha ketchup. Overall, messy but yummy and maybe just a Single Awesome for me. Pierogi Dumplings (three fried, hand-rolled dumplings filled with Schartner Farm potatoes, buttery onions, & spices served with sriracha rice & pickles) I was worried that the fried skin would be too hard but it was surprisingly tender and not greasy at all. The potato filling was fluffy and not too heavy. Just be careful when taking a bite because it's hot! The sriracha rice was very light, not spicy at all. The only somewhat complaint I had was that I think I would have preferred a different side with the dumplings since it seemed like a lot of starch for one dish. Sweet Corn Fritters (four Star Farms cornmeal batter, Schartner Farm sweet corn & sriracha aiolio) Yummy! The corn was sweet, the aioli was creamy with the right amount of kick, and the batter was fluffy. Fun to snack on! So you order at the counter, pay, and wait for your name to be called. When your food is ready, you can pick up the various condiments and utensils by the counter. Then sit and pig out. Repeat as necessary. Will have to try the food truck experience next time!

We had the biang biang hand pulled noodles (17) and the double awesome (9). I loved the double awesome and can't believe it's only $9. On the other hand I was not too happy about the 4 strands of noodles. I thought it was cool that it was hand pulled in front of us but I didn't feel right paying so much for so little noodles :( I would come back and try more of their dishes though!

The Mei Mei pleasure spectrum theory: Everything exists relative to the Double Awesome (scallion pancake + cheddar + pesto + "oozy egg" = boss level breakfast-for-every-meal sandwich.) Therefore, the rest of the menu tastes a negative awesome by default. Best use of signature egg, reverie haunting powers, and flavor combination awards all go to the Double Awesome. However, extension of the spectrum in the +++ direction can be achieved under two conditions: 1. Addition of house made bacon upgrades Double Awesome to Triple Awesome. 2. Acquiring spicy ketchup changes the formula to (Triple Awesome)^2. These are math facts. This is the equation to success at Mei Mei. It's also like, 10 bucks. If you don't order the Double Awesome, ya done f*cked up. Science can prove it.

yup-the restaurant is open for lunch ,but their dinner is amazing too! I'm not sure why yelp is asking me to write a review... because I already have... go. just go. you can thank me later. (get the "carrots and seeds"... no matter WHAT you think it is or expect... you will LOVE it)

Out at SoWa on Sunday afternoon, though all my friends lined on up at the Mei Mei Street Kitchen Truck, I purposefully avoided it, since I knew I would shortly be making my inaugural visit to the siblings' brick & mortar restaurant for dinner before a movie at Regal's. It is but a short walk from St. Mary's T stop, at the other end of the same block of buildings as Crispy Crepe. A nice casual spot with perhaps a double handful of tables for 2 or 4, and a few counter seats to boot. According to their website: "following the Chinese family-style tradition, menu items are designed to be shared and enjoyed by the table and dishes will arrive as prepared unless otherwise requested." I was glad that my party was fully interested in sharing since so many dishes sounded so good, and I wanted to eat it all. Sadly, however, of the three items off their online menu that had most caught my attention, only one was available that night. The rest had been swapped out for tamer variations. I did appreciate the server's apology, though it of course was no fault of hers. Our party of four ended up sharing five dishes: . Housemade Steam Buns - North Country Farms flour and butternut squash butter (v) $6 (+$2 for an additional 4th bun) . Sweet Corn Fritters - local cornmeal, Schartner Farms sweet corn, Sriracha aioli (v) $6 . The Double Awesome - VT cheddar, local greens pesto, two slow-poached-then-fried eggs on scallion pancake, house pickles $9 (v) . Biang Biang with Vegetables - hand pulled noodles, almond curry yogurt sauce, chard, roasted turnips, sorrel $14 (v) . Winter Warmth Curry - red curry, all-local veggies, fried rice cakes (v, contains peanuts) $14 . Tacos of the Day - butcher's cut of pastured beef, green sauce, local veg pico, nori (3) $14 (+$5 for an additional 4th taco; tongue on the day of our visit) The steamed buns were soft and fluffy and no where near petite. Three arrived to an order but we added a fourth for a surcharge so we could each have one. The butternut squash butter was tame but interesting. More savory than sweet. Corn Fritters were similar to hush puppies, being mostly dough with a few scattered kernels. Or perhaps like a corn donut hole? Funny enough, I enjoyed my last bite at the end of the meal much more than my first when it was still hot. Six arrived to an order. The Double Awesome was more merely good than awesome in my opinion, though it certainly sounds awesome! Perhaps a thicker, chewy inside-crisp outside style of scallion pancake with a nice sprinkle of salt would have kicked it up to the awesome level. The Biang Biang with Vegetables was toothsome rough wide noodles with a whole lot of roasted turnips. A few additional pulls of noodles would have been nice, as the amount we received seemed rather skimpy when I sought out a portion of noodles from the plate and found the noodle to be rather connected. The flavors were good though, and it had a bit of heat that I could handle. The presentation of the curry was a bit of a conversation starter with the food being served covering but half the plate. And when we dug in, we located just four of their round tubular rice cakes. While at least there was enough for each of us to have a piece, it still seemed a rather odd rice cake to vegetable ratio. Textures were interesting though with the crisp kale and garlic tossed in. And last but not least, the tacos were corn tortillas each topped with a generous heap of tender meat and creamy sauce and diced vegetables. It was nice that they were able and willing to add a fourth to the plate for an additional charge. A good meal with pleasant service for nearly $22 pp.

Underwhelming was the name of the our meal at Mei Mei Restaurant. I'd heard so many great things about the street kitchen, that when we were in the area, we decided to pop in and try the brick & mortar. Now, I'm not gonna totally write off Mei Mei - I probably won't be returning to the restaurant, but I will seek out the food truck once the weather gets warmer. The corn fritters were tasty, though a bit greasy. The pierogi were OK. The carrot "soup" was more of a puree, which came out cold, with a hunk of pork belly that was crispy and delicious - but didn't deserve to be on that sad carrot puree. There was a special congee on the menu that I wanted to try, but our server said it wasn't available for in-house dining. And I was a bit peeved to see that the table next to us got to order it. All in all, I left full but not satisfied and I found the prices to be a little expensive for what I got.

Came here a little over a month ago (I always start all of my reviews like this. I am way too consistent and predictable, it seems) when I was in town. I came here after they stopped serving their lunch menu and just before they had their dinner menu up, so the selection was a bit sparse. Even still, what I had ordered (the double awesome) lived up to its namesake. The scallion pancake was perfectly crisp without being overwhelmingly greasy and oily. The oozy egg was amazing. All together, a banging ass sandwich. Would definitely come back here if I happened to be in this part of Boston again.

Please start off with the sweet corn fritters. In a fit of post-McDonalds at 2am guilt, I decided not to get the "Double Awesome" and got the Harvest Moon Curry for lunch. For $8, I got a deeply flavorful and enormous bowl of rice with curry, fresh crunchy vegetables, fistfuls of roasted hazelnut bits, and slices of squash. Cut in the shape of moon crescents! Somehow Mei Mei knew that I spend some weekday dinners eating dinosaur shaped chicken nuggets. Mei Mei's first brick and mortar is a great step towards (hopefully) more locations. The whole place is filled with sunlight, and looks like a picture from an Ikea catalogue (Except with more hot sauce bottles).

I love this little gem of a restaurant with the innovative menu. The homemade dumplings are worth a walk in the rain. The curry is deep and flavorful. Order the Double Awesome, and you will be glad. In 5-7 years the siblings who run this restaurant and food truck of the same name will have a burgeoning restaurant empire. And you can tell your friends in South Beach and Shanghai that you ate at their first place on Park Drive, back in the day. Be Double Awesome.

I LOVE this place. Never been to the food truck, but I came here to photograph an engagement party. I met the owners and the employees, all great people, very nice. The venue is bright, classy, and great for all occasions. The food is delicious. I had their egg/chive flatbread. Almost like a pizza, perfect for vegetarians! The pork dumplings are juicy and great, my favorite. And the fried cornbread balls were so warm, crispy on the outside, and filling. We also had a platter of ham and prosciutto with a variety of different sauces. It was a great experience. Shout out to the owner/manager, Andrew, for taking care of us and making sure that we were happy.

I find fusion food to be a treacherous road to travel. One's food is bound to be unique by borrowing from multiple sources, but it's not always as exciting or as desirable as one might hope. This is the worst I've ever felt giving a place two stars, as I think Mei Mei is just barely short of a three as it is now, and it has the kind of potential to eventually be worth the same hype boasted by its food trucks. In it's current form, it's just overpriced food that seems to value unorthodoxy over being genuinely good. Like a lot of fusion restaurants, the menu is hit or miss. I enjoyed the sweet corn fritters, and the Double Awesome, despite the skepticism I had at such a presumptuous name, wasn't bad. I was really disappointed by the bacon fried rice, which was practically flavorless and seemed to know it. Meager flakes of bacon, mostly fat, and a few beet slices more for color than for flavor. All this on plain, dry, white rice. All these plates looked better than they tasted, which, to me, indicates fundamentally misplaced priorities. If you crave generous portions, look elsewhere; they need that empty plate space to organize the food in elaborate patterns. Again, I think the place has potential. They've got the quirky and unique thing on lock, but from my experience, the food suffers for it. You can't tell a fusion restaurant how to taste better; they're out there blazing a trail all their own, and I respect that, but I think a good look back at their menu is in order to eliminate the missteps and enhance the not-quite-there items. (Note: This review was originally, and erroneously, posted on the Mei Mei Street Kitchen page. It has been removed from that page, and added here.)

I came here riding on the wave of hype I read in online reviews but left disappointed and sad. The concept and decor are nice, but the food was nothing I'd rave about. Green curry dish was bland, lacked texture, and I felt like I could make a better version on my own that had zest and wow factor. The Double Awesome was hardly awesome. It had somewhat good texture but the pesto overwhelmed the entire dish. It took effort to finish it. The only thing I liked was the corn fritters but I failed to see what was so Asian fusiony about it. Service could be a bit more approachable. The gentleman was a bit cold during our exchanges.

What an adorable restaurant! The sunny yellow chairs, the large windows, natural wood, and friendly service made this the perfect atmosphere for an early light dinner. We ordered the house steamed buns, the double awesome, the vegetable biang biang, and the triple chocolate cake. The buns were fluffy with a hint of sweetness, and the mint-dill butter was refreshingly delicious. The double awesome was great, if a tad salty, and the pastrami, recommended by our waitress, was a great addition. The chocolate cake was a bit disappointing - we couldn't taste the bacon in the whipped cream and there was some salt scattered on top, but it all stuck to the icing the center of the slice of cake so there were a few very very salty bites. Our favorite dish was the vegetable biang biang - the noodles were soft and chewy, the sauce/paste on the noodles had a slight spicy kick, and the fennel added a fresh hint of licorice. We even got another order to go! I noticed that their menu is seasonal, and they really showcase the freshness of their ingredients in simple but uncommon Asian street food format. I look forward to trying new flavor combinations as the seasons change.

Mei mei and I had a questionable start. Days after opening, I stopped in for lunch to try out the new neighborhood spot. Ordered a few items to share- and it was good, but I wanted it to blow me away. I knew my expectations were too high going in, but it still took a few months for me to return. After reading the Boston Globe review, I came to the conclusion that dinner is the time to go. Luckily, a friend texted me a few weeks ago while drooling over the menu (I hope she agrees with that description)- so when we were searching for something to do on a Sunday night, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to give it one more go. It's a sharing menu, which is probably for the best so you can get a taste of everything. Although, it seems if there was more than two of us I would have been more territorial with my share of the food. The steamed buns with sweet potato butter spread were incredible. The pierogi dumplings were good, but the rhubarb jam that accompanied outshined them. It was as if the dumpling was there as an excuse to eat the jam. And then (drumroll please) the Double Awesome lived up to its name and some. I am so excited to try the rest of the menu at my next visit, but I won't be surprised if I stick to what I had tonight. Staff was awesome, atmosphere felt like we were in Brooklyn, and the city is building an awesome, urban public space just outside.

Pretty excited that Mei Mei's first Brick & Mortar restaurant review is also my 100th Yelp review of 2013. Wins all around. Mei Mei is already my favorite of the Boston food trucks, and that it only came around once a week to my campus was a true shame. That is, until Mei Mei noted that they would be opening their Brick & Mortar establishment on BU South Campus. Game changer. Now I can eat Mei Mei for lunch *any day of the week?!* And they're looking to be open for dinner with totally new menu options for dinner starting 11/25? SNAP. Working on the BU campus just got a whole lot more awesome. I was really impressed to see the kitchen operating so smoothly having only been open for 3 days. The Mei Mei devotees are really committed to the restaurant's success, already packing the house, all the patrons inhabiting its quarters cozily. I like the kitchen view myself - watching the truck employees in the open kitchen makes it evident just how serious business they were on the truck. Straight machines, those Mei Mei-niks! Welcome to your permanent fixture in the hood, Mei Mei. Your food remains outstanding, your employees remain delightful (and adorable!), and the decor of the new place is tasteful as all get out. Your restaurant is a foodie's Pinterest dream come true, and I will be back. Often.

Let me start off by saying I really wanted to like this place. Everyone writes wonderful reviews and I've heard so many good things coming from people who've eaten at the food truck. But I was very underwhelmed by the food. I ordered the Double Awesome sandwich and the Corn Fritters - listed as Pumpkin Corn Fritters. People seem to be obsessed with the Double Awesome but I really felt it was less than okay - I didn't even finish it. Why cover up the delicious taste of a scallion pancake with heaps of pesto? Why then add a glob of cheddar cheese? I felt like this was a regular American style breakfast sandwich someone decided to make "fusion" by throwing it on a scallion pancake. The corn fritters were fine - they taste just like any other fritters and even though the menu mentioned they were pumpkin fritters I didn't get that taste at all. My husband ordered the Harvest Moon Bowl and enjoyed the flavors in general. I tried it and the panang curry was nice. That was a good dish but it was also a dish that wasn't trying too hard. We also ordered the pork bus and boy did they not deliver. I agree with another reviewer - they tasted like grocery store pork buns. I'm willing to try again at dinner time and order a more hearty meal. I want to like this place and support a local establishment.

Kills me to write this but really unimpressed. I made a reservation over a week in advance to go to dinner with a party of 6 and then added 1 more 2 days prior. Mei Mei even called the day of to confirm we were still on which I confirmed we were. We arrived for an 8pm reservation and the table wasn't ready, they crammed 7 people into a tiny table for 6 and the meal was so-so. Our group is full of foodies and left the "risotto" and "purple potato" dishes practically untouched. The "charcuterie" dish was horrible! Cured lard is not charcuterie. Most people don't enjoy eating pure fat for obvious reasons. Given we live close, we may stick to take-out of only the favorites (perogies and kun pao chicken dip).

My Oh My! Does Boston have a gem of a restaurant to add to the mix and thank goodness. I only hope Mei Mei is the beginning of a cultural culinary revolution the city desperately needs. After reading various Best of... lists (there are so many) I noticed Mei Mei was continuously mentioned. While many reviews touched on a variety of items on the menu, the one item continuously repeated was The Double Awesome and after reading some reviews and comments such as, "I never knew awesome had a taste," there was no way I could not try at least one. What was this sandwich and was it as good as people were saying? There was definitely interest on my end, so while driving through the Fenway area I decided to take a detour to Park Drive and check it out for myself. All I have to say is that I was not disappointed.

Our Boston location is now two years old, so of course we had a PARTAY. We chose Mei Mei to help us celebrate, and this was an excellent decision. The Catering Manager, Jean, was a joy - friendly, professional, and concise. Then event day rolled around. The food was came and we almost poached Andrew to work for us. His service was beyond fantastic. He explained everything, then gave us his personal number in case we had questions during the event. Oh, and the food was awesome - unique and tasty. Three cheers for Mei Mei.

Hold on, what? Repeat that again, please. The "Fat Shantz" you say? And the "Double Awesome"? Like wow, hold the garlic aoli and spicy katsup. We got our hands full with scallion pancake sammies. Thin slices of beef, apples, potato, greens, and a cranberry hoisin sauce. I wish there was more beef and less sauce in the Fat Shantz. The sauce ain't the star yo, sorry. Slow poached then fried eggs, cheddar, and local greens pesto. The Double Awesome is definitely AWESOME, but please moar sauce on this one!!! Overall, the scallion pancakes were nice and flaky, but I didn't really taste any scallion. The special of the day: Stoganoff dumplings! Beef, mushrooms, onions, and other goodies, all fried up in a delightful treat! It came with a side of pickled cabbage and tasty rice. Hip place, tech savy counter to pay, kind of bummed you don't eat on plates but in small carton holders, and please, that light smack in the middle of the menu is just in the way. Get rid of it or move it higher so it's easier to read the menu. Definitely will come back for the dinner menu. Stay tuned.

If only Mei Mei were closer to where I live! The staff was incredibly friendly and the food was delicious. I had the double awesome, which came out quickly (as did everything else). The "pancake" was thicker and tougher than I expected but that was a positive surprise. Only thing I would had like would had been an extra pancake as I was still hungry after the two that came with my dish.

I'm torn on giving this place 3 or 4 stars... I wasn't impressed as I thought I would be! Yes, the dumplings were delicious, but I was hoping to get more of the food truck experience they offer and try a few items. Its harder to do that at the store, because they serve a different menu and all items are $7+ and it can add up quickly. However, they had some creative options available that all sounded good, and I love the space. I went in thinking it would be more like the food truck but had I come for a dinner experience I would probably love the place more. So, I'll bump this place up to four, but I definitely prefer the truck.

I've heard great things about Mei Mei's Street Kitchen (food truck) so I thought i'd jump the gun and check out the restaurant first. I loved the restaurant atmosphere. Really enjoyed the home-y feeling and decor. Made you feel comfortable when you walked in. The staff seemed extremely friendly and seated us instantly for dinner on a Saturday night. Since I've never been here, I asked the waitress what to get and she suggested the Tacos and Corn Fritters. We were here just for a snack since we weren't that hungry. The corn fritters were pretty good, yet simple. However we were extremely disappointed in the tacos. It was bland and nothing special. Not sure if I would come back again for the food. However it is a nice place for a casual dinner/date.

I was debating writing this review because I feel bad...but in the end my food experience was so opposite of the yelp reviews that I feel like I have to do my part... Service-wonderful!! Part of the reason why I feel bad writing this...everyone was friendly, hospitable, and wonderful. That aspect was great. The food is where I had major issues. I'm asian so I know asian flavors...I've also had many asian fusion dishes and in general-love eating. I was super excited to try this due to the reviews they have gotten for their foods. I've never tried the food truck before. In my excitement I decided to literally try everything on the menu-all 16 dishes because I was in a group large enough to do that. Steamed Buns-sure every asian fusion place can do diff takes on steamed buns, but what came out was insulting. Literally a whole wheat dinner roll.... needless to say we were all disappointed. It looked like it could have come from a grocery store pack. Charred Cabbage Salad-way oversalted. All we could taste was charred salt. Pierogi Dumplings-so excited to try it, the flavor just wasn't that bold once I bit into it. The outside was nicely fried but I expected an explosion of flavor and it just tastes mediocre. Carrot & Coconut Soup-my friend remarked that it tasted like a strawberry daquiri...I laughed at her and then tried it...and the flavor was odd...Too thick to drink as a soup and the coconut, candied ginger, and cranberry was confusing. I didn't know what to make of it and pushed it aside after a small taste. Charcuterie Platter-I'm still not sure what the thin white thing I ate was...but i have never tasted something so pungent and waxy. Unfortunately I wasn't familiar enough with the people in party to spit it out (which I desperately wanted to do...) so I swallowed it quickly. Nobody really went for anything much on this platter. Nothing overly exciting. Red Braised Pork Shoulder-too dry, okay flavor Dry Fried Red Pepper-again...just okay. Pepper didn't have much flavor and the only thing that seemed to make it unique was the dried rice which some didn't like. Mapo Beef & Tofu-the group liked this the most due to its spice and flavor. I've had mapo tofu before so I thought it was decent but again not amazing. Sweet Corn Fritters-taste like hush puppies, decent and I ate them, but again nothing overly exciting Kung Pao Chicken Dip-neat concept and enjoyed the presentation. Ate a small piece and again the flavors just were bland to me. By the time I hit dish 10 I lost interest in trying anything further and my bf was surprised (because I usually eat everything). That was how sad I was for not finding any dish I even liked. The presentation of the dishes was superb, but I felt they were really missing its identity. Freshly chopped ginger, herbs, peanuts to add texture, crunch, and freshness-I like that idea...but then the base flavors of the dishes were not bold/savory as asian dishes traditionally are...or light and yet delicate. It felt like too much of an experiment without quite getting the idea of what they wanted the dish to become. I'm sad and I apologize because I really wanted to like this place and everyone was so nice there. But unfortunately, I will not be returning again.

More like Meh Meh Restaurant. I was super excited to try this place. The menu sounded awesome and there were so many positive reviews, online and from acquaintances. This might be completely dependent on what you order though, and what my friend and I ordered just didn't work. We tried the kale salad, of course. It comes with an "oozy" egg. Egg and kale go together really well, plus there was some feta, which is always a good sign. It wasn't a bad salad or anything, it just wasn't a good salad. Meh. We also tried the eggplant, which comes as three little eggplants split in half with peach slices and some spice to it. Again, these weren't bad or anything, they were just fine. The spiciness from the sauce and the sweetness from the peaches just didn't blend well with the eggplant. Meh. The vegetable biang biang had really nice noodles (they're handmade), but the sauce was this weird sweet curry-ish kind of thing, with something that tasted like licorice so maybe there was fennel in it? I don't know. It came with some under-cooked root vegetables, maybe beets and another root I couldn't identify. Turnips? These were cold and crunchy. Meh. The real disappointment was the sweet corn and bone marrow. All of the ingredients are really delicious by themselves: sweet corn. bone marrow. salmon roe. They just don't work together. The fishiness of the roe just did not compliment the meatiness of the bone marrow. Meh. The plates were kind of pricey for what you get, but we didn't end up finishing everything because it just wasn't that good. We're going to have to go back and get something less fusion-y, like the sweet corn fritters. You can fry anything and have it be delicious.

Mei Mei is fantastic and now offers a limited take-out menu (including their signature sandwich, the Double Awesome)! The menu is eclectic compared to other offerings in the area, but satisfying beyond belief. The evolving dinner menu is really worth diving in to. Always ALWAYS get the charcuterie - the chefs know how to put together a tasty selection. The steam buns are a great alternative, the seasonal compound butter bringing them to life. If I were to find one fault, it would be the beer prices. There's a noticeable mark-up. This brick-and-mortar location of Boston's hottest food truck is quickly becoming a staple of the BU/Fenway neighborhood.

This is officially my favorite place to eat atm in the Boston area. I think I've had everything on the menu at least once, or atleast tried some of my wifes. While the Lunch menu is good solid comforting food, I really enjoy the creativity they put into their changing dinner menus (they locally source, so the menu changes). Some of my favorites are their sweet and sour pork with miso and burnt crispy rice. Some sort of candied ginger? walnut and friend shrimp skin shrimp coconut thing. A in in the jar cheese cake desert thing and mmmm the daily toast is very tasty. If I had to label the dinner as a whole, I'd call it large sized tapa's (although their curries and few other things are well sized), since the dishes themselves are not large, but filling and full of flavor and creativity.

This is a dinner review. I love the mei mei fast casual style. Order a double awesome and awesome. Service was great and everyone was helpful and kind. Dinner on the other hand. It was strange. I didn't even know mei mei did this. The menu was rather limited. We ordered: dumplings - the best thing we ate but $2 each - ginger carrot soup - it was eh and pricey Jajang lamb noodles - there were very few noodles. I had lots of lamb left on my plate, this is usually a good thing but it was too savory it needed something to balance it out. And then to top it off we got some veggies because the lamb was very flavorful and we couldn't end with it. The veggies were great but expensive for the amount we got. Love that the food is local and Asian but it was a bit off putting that it wasn't the normal menu. I didn't like the dinner.

My husband and I LOVE Mei Mei! We pickup take out at least twice a week. The Double Awesome is my favorite. The kale salad is delicious! We've loved everything we have tried. The dishes are all inventive and new takes on Chinese/Asian flavors and ingredients. I would say the restaurant is Chinese inspired so don't expect traditional dishes.

If you are expecting anything like a food truck, you will be disappointed. I have never eaten at the Mei Mei food truck, but I was expecting an experience similar to Clover, Bon Me, or Roxy. They all serve essentially the same food in their brick and mortar stores as they do in the trucks. When I think of food trucks, I think of fast and cheap. This was neither. While our waitress was quick to seat us and take orders, everything else was painfully slow. It's not a big restaurant, but it took awhile to get food. Not once did they refill our small water cups. It took them a good 15 min to come over after we were clearly finished eating. I noticed there was dessert, but it was not offered. The prices also are expensive enough to rival the majority of local restaurants. Portions are pretty small. The food is probably best described as Asian fusion as they tried to combine a few things. The double awesome was a bit underwhelming. A scallion pancake sandwich will always taste good because of the scallion pancake. But, the sandwich should definitely have more flavor. Pastrami addition was meager and tasteless. The steam buns were essentially equivalent to rolls that other restaurants offer for free. The corn fritters were like hush puppies with bits of corn mixed in. The sriracha aoli made it quite tasty. I was highly surprised that they only offered 4 meat options out of nearly 20. The few positives that saved this spot from a horrible one star experience is that some of the flavor combinations were there, they served alcohol, and the bathroom wall was decorated with cute recipes.

I had never been to Mei Mei's before and I was excited to try the Harvest Moon Curry take out. However, when I got home and opened the take out box, I was surprised to find that the contents consisted of: one spoonful of plain white rice, a few purple radish slices, and a spoonful of curry. I kid you not. Pros: the taste of the curry was pretty good (from what I could tell from the few chunks of vegetables in my take out box) Cons: kid sized meals apparently worth $9

Great place for people into food truck culture/restaurant type of food. However, will need to order more than one dish in order to get full in terms of eating at this place for dinner, which is what I did. My friend has been wanting to try this place for a while and really liked their food when she got it from their food truck. The atmosphere caters to a very young demographic that attracts foodies (hence their food truck beginning turned restaurant). The service was relatively attentive. Catering to their demographics, there are places to park your bike outside the restaurant. As for food. Mei Mei seems famous for their "Double Awesome" ($9) which basically is a scallion pancake sandwich with local greens pesto, VT cheddar & two slow-poached then fried eggs. Their are two pieces. I think food culture has an obsession with adding a fried egg and calling it gourmet and trendy, however, I think Mei Mei does a good job of this as the Double Awesome was definitely awesome for my taste buds! Very flavorful dish. Makes sense that people are a fan of this dish. Also ordered the Pierogi Dumplings ($10) which consists of three fried, hand-rolled dumplings filled with Schartner Farm potatoes, and buttery onions served with sriracha & pickles. I was surprised at how good this dumpling dish was. The outside is nice and crispy like a pot sticker but the inside was soft with potatoes. Was definitely a fan of this dish as well. My least favorite dish, however, was the Vegetable Biang Biang ($14). The portion for this was very small for what they called a "larger dish" and expensive. Basically egg noodle that they called "hand-pulled noodles" with almond yogurt, turnips, and greens. It was really greasy for my taste. You could probably get a similar dish to this in a lot of Chinese restaurants and it definitely won't cost you $14! Overall, the quality of food is worth it. Definitely a different take on Chinese fusion food. Cost is more appropriate for a lunch place than dinner (which is more expensive for no reason other than it being dinner time).

Simply not my cup of tea! Definitely some unique dishes but most were questionable. Have an absolutely open mind before coming here. Comparable to Myers & Chang because of the fusion concept but if you do prefer Myers & Chang, this is something less sub par to that. The ambience and space is nice, but the food was simply not for my party's taste. We left feeling disappointed.

I love this place! I came here for a late breakfast/early lunch on a Monday. I got here around 11 when they first opened and decided to get the "Double Awesome" and an iced jasmine tea. I loved everything about sandwich. So flavorful and very filling. The iced tea was refreshing as well. Service was quick and friendly, too. Also, I'm totally in love with the space. Modern but with an earthy feel if that makes sense. I cant wait to come back!!

I'm a big fan of this place. I particularly like the slow-cooked rice porridge and all of the included fixings, including the oozy egg and all the pickles. My favorite flavor for the porridge was the kung pao chicken. The dumplings are good, though for those of you expecting dumping with a thinner skin, the skins are definitely on the thicker side. The Double Awesome is great, though it doesn't translate nearly as well in takeout, which is my primary MO when eating food from here.

The price is a little high for the amount of food, but it was delicious and high quality. I wish the portion sizes were bigger! The atmosphere is inviting, and the people that work there are friendly. I would definitely come back here.

I am such a Mei Mei fan. I know, five stars is a ton but whatever, dude. Mei Mei is dope. Cart or restaurant, you're totally set. The restaurant has a very cool, humble hipster vibe - energetic and fun and unpretentious. It's kind of unassumingly cool. The entire staff is insanely friendly and WILL remember your name. Or maybe I'm there too much. Who can say... I'm sure everyone has been raving about the double awesome. Everything everyone says is true - it's a perfect sandwich. I'm pretty sure they take a scallion pancake, add a sous-vide poached egg that has been briefly crisped up on a grill, plus some sharp cheddar and a splash of pesto and then fold it like a sandwich. If you get a double-awesome, ask to add bacon, and then get a side of spicy ketchup, you have the ultimate hangover cure, no joke. It's magical. The egg is the secret - It's all the fun of an ooey, gooey poached egg, plus those little crispy edges of a fried egg that make live worth living. But all of the scallion pancake sandwiches are beautiful. I'm a personal fan of the Fat Schantz, when they have it on the menu - it has POTATO SALAD on it. POTATO SALAD! The Banh Mei is another favorite - it has an interesting tang, which cuts the fat of the ham. Deeee-lish. The menu changes regularly otherwise, but all of my experiences dinner-wise have been awesome. I'm there fairly regularly, but I'd say grab a curry when you can. I once had a full pork shoulder there served with bao, miso cabbage, cranberry hoisin and pickled carrots so you could make lil sandwiches! You would think the miso cabbage would clash with the cranberry sauce, but they were actually a fantastic pair - the umami flavor laced with the sweetness of the berries really soaked into the pork without overpowering all that natural goodness. GET ANY DUMPLING THEY MAKE EVER. EVER. E.V.E.R.

Mei Mei is my favorite restaurant in Boston! The food is not just delicious, it's an experience! The service is amazing..it feels like you are a guest at a friend's house, so genuine and caring, always super informative and knowledgeable. The atmosphere is wonderful with a colorful interior with real plants and always great chill music playing. Well and the food is outstanding...so inventive and flavorful. The cabbage salad for example is a perfect dish; the feta salty, the panko crispy, the cabbage sour, the apple sweet, the poached egg on top creamy..it's a party in your mouth:) and now they have a beer and wine licence with a great local selection..perfect!!

Double awesome, pretty much describes it. Seemingly strange combination, but delicious: a scallion pancake with pesto on it and then two poached and fried eggs. There was the option for meat (I passed), although I bet it would be even better if there was some grated parmesan cheese on it. At $7+tax it's a just a tad pricey for essentially an egg sandwich, but cheaper than most other lunch options in the area. Plus it's really tasty. I'll be back and will certainly recommend this item to others.

I'm surprised to be just the fourth Yelper to review the new and only stationary incarnation of the wildly popular food truck. The restaurant is conveniently located one block from the St. Mary's stop on the C line, three blocks from the Fenway stop on D line and about four blocks from BU's man campus on the B line. In other words, it's easy to reach. One immediate benefit Mei Mei brings to their new 'hood is a vivid sign of life in a long decaying strip of dingy businesses. For that alone, I applaud them. The interior is bright, airy and clean. The design reflects their food. Counter service is efficient and friendly. What I like most about Mei Mei is that their food is creative, wholesome, often healthy, and reasonably-priced. I feel good after eating their food; not weighed down or sluggish. The menu does skew a little too much on fried dishes for my taste - mainly because of the broad use of Chinese pancakes - but there is always something else I can get. They didn't have my favorite Mei Mei dish - the barley salad - so I ordered a small Magic Kale Salad ($5 small/$7 large), organic kale dressed with rice wine vinaigrette & topped with local sea-brined feta, garlic panko & a slow-poached-then-fried egg. I loved it. I also had the 24 Carrot soup ($4.50), made with carrots, onions, and garnished with house pickles, local sea-brined feta, crispy garlic panko, and scallions. The layers of flavor in this soup are genius. The kicker for me is the brine that the pickles contribute. My wife had the rice porridge ($6.50) topped with ginger scallion oil, local house pickles, crispy Chinese crullers, sliced ginger, scallions, a slow-poached-then-fried egg and tofu stew. Porridge grosses me out, but she said it was great. If you're in the BU or Fenway area and want a healthy, nutritious meal, Mei Mei will sate your appetite. Please let me know what you think of this review by clicking a button below. Thanks.

This is a truly fantastic restaurant. The food is creative and delicious, the service is caring and attentive, and I love knowing that each item has been locally sourced and ethically vetted before I eat it. Almost everything on the menu is a home run. Any variation on the biang biang noodles or curries are worth ordering, and keep an eye on the rotating meat specials - they're often the most playful items on the menu. I love starting the meal with their steamed buns - just a warm way to start off a great meal. Some of the menu's items are a bit "out there" for some people - I think this is what leads to some of the lower ratings below. I just sit back and trust the Mei Mei team, and it's always fantastic. Also, if you order vegetarian, there is amazing value for money. Will definitely keep coming back!

The friend who took me here described it as "hipster Chinese" and I think that pretty well sums it up. But it is delicious, hipster Chinese food. Worth coming back to, for sure. Casual place, good vegetarian food.

Had our wedding catered by Mei Mei and from ordering to delivery Andrew was very accommodating and was a pleasure to work with! We were big fans of the food truck before the restaurant opened so already loved the food. Our menu was perfectly balanced and the guests absolutely loved every bite (there was barely any leftovers for us to take home, it was that good). I can't say enough good things about how easy they made placing this order, from beginning to end. Weddings can be wicked stressful and they definitely made the food one of the easy points of the day!

Ambiance: small interior with minimal room for seating. Tables are small. The place feels like an extended kitchen Food: PHENOMENAL! The combination of flavors were superb and unlike anything I've had. All ingredients are fresh and local, huge plus! Entrées beat appetizers in flavor. Service: extremely friendly and knowledgeable on the menu items Will come back again. Bon appétit!

I was one of the Kickstarter backers, so of course I'm excited about the place. And it lived up to my expectations. Great food, and a very cool vibe. I tried quite a few things: Tallow Fried Black Rice with a Poached Egg - Amazing, but very, very, very rich (what did you expect?) Haymaker's Punch - Not alcoholic punch, but a vinegar-based shrub, unusual but refreshing Confit Beef Tongue - The only bit of the meal I'd describe as just okay, the meat was good and the texture was interesting, but it didn't wow me like the other stuff Winter Curry - Probably the best vegetable curry I've ever had Sweet Steam Buns - A dessert that really fit the street-food theme, tasty I didn't notice the greasy smell some reviewers have complained about, but after the tallow rice I was probably too infused with the stuff to notice. Anyways, this place is off to a great start. Would have given them four stars, but that curry kicks it up to five. Really was phenomenal.

Tried this out for the first time today. I ordered the Double Awesome and the Sweet Corn Fritters to go at around 5:45pm, when the restaurant was empty. That said, my review is based just on the food and not on service, though the staff seemed nice. The Double Awesome was underwhelming. Being that it's one of their most popular items, I was expecting more flavor, but it fell flat. I love scallion pancakes and oozy eggs, so I really wanted to enjoy this, but unfortunately did not. On the other hand, the Sweet Corn Fritters with the Sriracha Aioli was absolutely delicious. I ate them when they were hot and I ate the leftovers again after sitting in the fridge for a couple hours. Both ways were yummy. I would definitely get this dish again and again.

Everything from the food to the service here was far beyond your typical small restaurant. The service was incredible. The staff was so nice and informative, and not obtrusive at all. I ordered their sweet and sour pork without really reading too much about what else was in the dish, and was very pleasantly surprised when I was served and given a quick, comprehensive low-down of all the delicious components of the entree. Segway into the food, I wasn't expecting the tasty and unique crispy spiced rice below the perfectly spiced and breaded sweet and sour pork, let alone the elegantly splashed chickpea spread on the side of the plate. I do realize that was a run-on but the food deserves a run-on description. About the atmosphere and decor; incredibly comfortable with a very pleasant, organic-style feel. They have an open kitchen viewable from the seated tables, and it was fun to watch the chefs hand-making the noodles in front of you (which were also amazing, by the way). Altogether all nice things, the one complaint is that I wasn't totally full after my meal; but we didn't order an appetizers and I eat a very large amount of food normally, so I didn't feel that was worth a star hit. Definitely check this place out!

We started off with the Steam Buns and Red Braised Pork Shoulder. The buns were warm and had a great, sticky consistency. The Pork Shoulder was my favorite dish of the night--it was love at first taste. We also had the Copicut Farms Wings and the cabbage salad--both of which were fine but nothing to gush over. The servers were great, very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was laid back and comfortable. Most likely, won't visit again since the restaurant is out of our way and overall not worth it the travel but it was a fine meal and I'm happy we tried it.

First off, the restaurant has a great ambiance, and it was surprisingly uncrowded for a Saturday night. This, paired with the affordable prices and great service, was definitely the highlight of my visit. Overall, I found the food was tasty, but nothing blew me away. I would go back and try some of the dishes that Yelpers have raved about --mainly the Double Awesome and the Pumpkin Fritters -- that I didn't order. My favorite dish that I tried was the Harvest Moon Curry (I loved the sage flavor), which I would order again. However, I would skip the Copicut Farms Chicken Wings, which came out slightly cold, overcooked and had an unoriginal maple-based flavoring.

I think I came here for their lunch menu on the weekend and I had the double awesome, beef dumplings and sweet potato dumplings. The double awesome was probably the highlight of this, a scallion pancake with egg, cheese and pesto inside. It was pretty delicious. The dumplings on the other hand were just okay, a bit oily if you ask me. The cashier/waitress was very welcoming and attentive to everyone in the restaurant which is a definite plus. If I ever go back, I think I would only get the double awesome.

My top lunch spot. Everything tastes fresh and (mostly) healthy. I have not had anything I didn't like. I would especially recommend the corn fritters, dumplings, and seasonal salads. Even a simple steamed bun with "seasonal compound" butter was great. When they added beers to the menu, they completed the deal for me!

So I'm a big fan of the food truck and donated to the kick starter. Came to the actual restaurant for the first time with a friend. First impressions was that the place was really cute. Nice and comfy. Mei mei's doesn't try to advertise that they're selling authentic Chinese food rather Chinese food with an their own American flair. I got the braised beef dumplings and my friend got the sweet potato and sage dumplings. Both came with a side of sirarcha fried rice. I tried both dumplings and they both had good flavor to them. A little bit on the small side on portion, but it was somewhat filling. I wish there was an option to maybe get the dumplings either steamed or pan fried. They automatically come deep fried to a crisp. I honestly don't think the fried rice added much because it was just rice that they added sirarcha too, no egg/veggies/meat. Overall the meal was pretty good. My only complaint is that the restaurant is just the food truck except indoors. I was expecting a step up in quality(the food truck is pretty high quality to begin with). Hopefully it's different for dinner hours. Still good enough for me to return if I'm in the area. More like 3 and a half but I'll bump it up to 4 since staff is always so nice.

Mei Mei's brick and mortar location serves up the astoundingly delicious and unfathomably creative dishes that their truck does (and more), in a charming location near BU. Pricing is very reasonable, with small dishes hovering around $9 and entrees going all the way up to over $20. The place was not at all crowded when we went in on a Saturday night, so people clearly have not gotten the memo about how this is one of the best restaurants in Boston. With that in mind, I recommend you go now while there's not a line out the door. I've had their Double Awesome countless times from the truck, and couldn't resist getting it again. It's a scallion pancake, kale pesto, and egg sandwich. It is the best. We also got their corn fritters, which are way beyond hush puppies. They're fried perfectly, crispy, moist (sorry), and served topped with scallions and a lightly spicy aioli. My wife and I fought over the 7th one and then remembered we could cut things in half. Harmony restored! Another thing we shared was a dish with carrots, black sesame paste, cranberries, sunflower seeds, and ricotta. It sounds weird, maybe even unappealing. But it was the star of the meal. For some reason, all of those elements combine perfectly to create a luscious and refreshing dish. Mei Mei is a place where you will be rewarded for being adventurous. I firmly believe that they are incapable of creating a dish that is anything less than outstanding. To prove my point, the other thing I ordered was a hot cider with cayenne, ginger, and a freakin pat of butter. It was absolutely delicious, and the perfect antidote to the frigid weather. I know, butter sounds gross in a drink, but try it yourself. It'll be the best $3 you ever spend. Our server was... well... he didn't make eye contact with me more than once. When someone can't look at you, it's distracting, and honestly pretty offensive. But, at least he didn't call my partner and I "ladies" to our faces like so many inept servers do (fact: people who want to be called a lady don't wear ties and have dapper men's haircuts), so that's a big positive. Everyone else I interacted with (Margaret, Crys, friendly greeter) was amazing. Seriously, so so so nice. That's why they still get the full 5 stars.

I came here for a late lunch on Friday, and had plenty of seating options. The service was fantastic-- friendly, eager to answer my questions without trying to talk me into getting more, etc. I had the baked potato soup (to counter the gross grey day outside), and had mixed feelings about it. The soup itself was rich and filling, but the toppings (sour cream, bacon, etc) were far too strong in their flavors, contrasting with the soup in a way that made me start enjoying everything less, as I was jarred from strong flavor to strong flavor. Nothing blended together-- the contrasts were too stark. Still, the staff was so nice and the reviews here so good that I'll definitely try it again.

In one sentence: Brazen fusion wizard food that is worth trying at least once. In summary: - These people sure know how to braise beef into tender, delicious bites of heaven. - Pretty presentation seems to supercede functionality at this restaurant. - Their dumplings are done in a thick Chinese style, crossing into momo territory. - Something was off with their dumpling wraps and crepes - both were too doughy and dense, in my opinion. - For $2.50 of your hard-worked cash you will get four gulps of iced tea. Avoid the shame and stick to the free water. The verdict: Go at least once. If you are the type of person who likes honest food without a whole lot of fuss (like me), you may not be back. If you like word puzzles and coloring books, and might also just happen to have an overstuffed bookcase of literature you haven't quite gotten around to reading yet, then I think I just found your new favorite restaurant. Future work: I will try the food trucks and come back with an update.

I came here with several friends. I ordered the Double Awesome, which gets 2 stars. The scallion pancake was bland, and tough, and hard to chew. The local greens pesto was really bitter. I thought the sandwich needed more fat, salt, cheese. I tried one of my friend's pork dumplings, which gets 1 star. The texture and flavor were revolting. The consistency was like Alpo or refried beans. It had a slight sweet spice note like anise. The was no contrasting textures in the filling. It was one smooth, pulverized squirt of pork. The corn fritters get 5 stars! They were hot and delicious. Everyone at my table was swooning over them. The service and atmosphere was wonderful!

Obnoxiously came here on a Saturday night at 8pm with a group of 12 people. Nonetheless, the staff was very accommodating and had us seated quickly despite most of the tables being full. We split the group 6/6 and shared a bunch of dishes. The winter curry and cabbage salad were both highlights, as well as the double awesome (of course). Everything else was very good, although to me the Biang Biang noodles lacked a little flavor (though others at the table loved them). Our server was friendly, fun, and clearly passionate about the food, which added to the experience. Highly recommend! Great business to support as well.

Do me a favor, visualize the following scenario. You're in a super-classy cinema built circa 1920. Loges, booths, art deco mouldings and gold leaf on the walls, a crystal-cut chandelier, the works. You ease into your velvet cushioned seat and take a sip of the Merlot you had purchased in the lobby just minutes earlier, snug and ready to enjoy your favorite cinematic masterpiece by Bergman. Or Tarkovsky. Or whatever. Point being, it's some sophisticated and esoteric movie shit! Just before the lights dim, an usher appears on stage before the screen and announces that half of the most poignant scenes from this film have been replaced with bits from Adam Sandler's "Happy Madison" line of films. And that right there is a pretty good summary of how I felt about Mei Mei. Basically, what I wanted and what I was offered was kind of different from what I got. It wasn't bad; it was just... Bergman, starring Adam Sandler. OK, so I get it. Everyone loves Mei Mei's food trucks and creative meals. But the issue with culinary creativity is that it has the potential to dissolve into "fusion," and "fusion" often skirts dangerously close to "self-parody." Therefore, if I had to describe the cuisine at Mei Mei, I would use the word "brasian." For those of you who have been living under a rock for the past thirty seconds, that's a portmanteau of "brunch" and "asian" I literally just invented. Keeping that in mind, here's what you have to be aware of when you sit down to eat at Mei Mei: THE GOOD: All the ingredients are ridiculously fresh. I'm pretty sure the trotters atop my waffle did a little tap-dance routine for me before I consumed them. The menu wastes no time telling you that most of the ingredients are locally sourced, farm-raised, and cruelty-free. Which is definitely awesome, because putting month-old Jimmy Dean sausage into my flavor hole for $12 a plate would've been bullshit. Additionally, the head chef at Mei Mei seems pretty adventurous and unafraid to try new and unconventional flavor pairings in his foods. Granted, I'm an amateur at best when it comes to the culinary arts, but even I thought the addition of a dab of butter to their spiced cider was kind of a genius idea. The other dishes are similarly inventive, and often prepared with considerable attention to detail (I particularly applaud the crepe around Double Awesome, which had the crunchy yet soft texture of layer pastry). The cook and flavoring on the Beef Shank were also completely flawless. So, if inventiveness is what you are after, you will not be let down. However... THE BAD: Inventiveness will take you so far, and when your server has to spend a full minute explaining to you how the flavors in the dish of dumplings you just ordered combine in order to create a maximum taste experience, maybe your strategiery needs to be rethought. There is a reason the sauce accompanies the dumplings: it's meant to compliment them. I'm pretty sure that I don't need that explained. Let's be fair: dumplings are dumplings. They're so ancient that Herodotus nearly dedicated an entire volume of his "Histories" to them, except then his editor was a dick and told him to never publish it. True story. So, if I need a 90-second explanation of how fried pork dumplings "work," maybe I'm not cool enough to be in that restaurant to begin with. For my personal tastes, it felt like so many of the dishes insisted on giving you too much fo the same. Periodically, it would've been nice to accent some of the savoriness or sweetness with a bit of acidity, as in their Trotters and Waffles. In addition, the presentation and the plating regularly superceded the functionality of the food. The pan-fried dumplings were overdone and were not really absorbing the sauce they came in; the Corn Fritters came with a small dab of sauce in the middle, but as they were round and the amount of sauce minimal, there was just no way to try the sauce out in a meaningful way. THE WEIRD: The service was just downright awful. In addition to being slightly too familial, the waiters were that rare combination of being too attentive and not attentive enough. The server's descriptions of the food, while very flowery, didn't really convey the information I needed to hear about the food. For that matter, I'm pretty sure I didn't necessarily want a lecture on the food in the first place. THE VERDICT: A bit like a strange foreign film. You think you kinda get what's going on, but really, more than anything, you just kind of want for it to be over.

I used to be a big fan of the food truck and would always try to bike over for lunch when it was in the vicinity. It wasn't clear how the brick and mortar restaurant would compare, since obviously there's the matter of an entire new dinner menu to deal with. I'm happy to say they've done a great job with it - the double awesome is still a top choice (take a look at other reviews for plenty of photos of it), but the other dishes I've tried have been nice as well - the steamed wheat buns are incredibly simple but tasty. The assorted sides I've tried have all been good. Pretty much the only thing I wasn't entirely sold on was the "Snow Cream" dessert, in general it was more interesting than actually tasty. I'm still looking forward to trying the other desert but kind of wish they had something a bit less esoteric to finish off the meal. Service is friendly and helpful. In general, this is fun place I'd look to bring visiting friends if they were looking to specifically try something more interesting and unique than the average hyper-utilitarian / lowest common denominator sports bar type restaurant, which Boston seems to have more than enough of already.

This cheerful small restaurant perfectly transitions their famous food truck into a sit-down eatery. If you can't get to the curbside, head to the Brookline establishment.

Absolutely love Mie Mei! When I found out they were opening a restaurant next to where I live, I was stoked. But seriously... Decor: love it. Their menu is written on a chalk board on the side of a wall. Their cup holders are actually bottled glasses cut in half. Everything is so clean and simply put. Waiters/waitresses: very friendly. Absolute pleasure to converse with. Food: da bomb! I haven't had the chance to try their dinner menu, but I've tried almost everything on their lunch menu and I fall in love with it every time. If you're a first-time goer, you must try the Double Awesome. It's scallion pancake with poached egg and something else, and when you dip it into spicy ketchup... yum, perfection. That's what makes you fall in love with Mei Mei. I can't remember the name of it, but they have a drink that's sweet and sour and has a ton of kick in it. It's kind of like sour plum... I think it has the word "hay" in it. It's good! They also have a drink that's milk and maple syrup. That's really good on a cold, snowy Boston day. -- P.S. Mei Mei, after you opened, I dragged my entire team of 10 people to your store and they all fell in love with it. It's the one restaurant I tell everybody to go to.

To start off, I was super stoked when I heard Mei Mei had opened a brick and mortar restaurant. I happened upon one of their trucks this past summer and tried the Double Awesome and I must say that it completely lives up to its name. Seriously, whoever came up with this just seems to know how much I love eggs, cheese, pesto and scallion pancakes on their own right and decided to just combine all of those into ooey gooey perfection. In general, I really like Mei Mei's concept. I'm a big fan of inventive dishes that you can't find anywhere else, especially when they're inexpensive. While they call it "Chinese-American fusion", it's basically wholly original dishes with Chinese elements. Whoever designed their new restaurant was right on the mark. The decor is both homey and hip, and makes for a great place to spend the afternoon. Just like I found with the truck, the staff is happy and friendly. I decided to spice it up a little bit and try the Rice Porridge with umami tofu stew (also available with beef) and some sweet corn fritters for the table. I had never had rice porridge before, and was really intrigued. It's almost like savory rice pudding. The menu boasted its "new larger size," but to be perfectly honest, I wouldn't have minded if it were a little smaller as I couldn't actually finish this much food. It was topped with a poached egg (one of the things I love about Mei Mei is just how many of their dishes include eggs), which was runny enough that when I mixed everything together the yolk blended with the porridge nicely. It included whole pieces of ginger, which definitely provided a nice kick. The crullers at the top were a little too hard at first but after I mixed it up and they became submerged in the porridge, they became softer. The one thing I wasn't crazy about was the tofu stew. Rather than being umami, it was just salty. And once I had mixed it all up, the entire dish just became very salty. All in all, I think I prefer the Double Awesome. The corn fritters were fantastic and definitely ideal for sharing. I also had the maple milk which had some folksy name I can't remember, and that was great. It would probably be even better if they served it warm. I definitely can't wait to return, if only because there were so many other items on the menu that I want to try, and it seems like they change it up fairly frequently. The dinner menu looks really good, although kind of expensive compared to lunch. Definitely recommended for those who like their food outside of the box and topped with eggs.

I had high expectations after hearing so much about this place in media and from friends. We ordered plates to share with the entire table. The food was good...but nothing stellar to me. The best thing I had was the corn fritters..perfectly crisp yet soft and fluffy on the inside. The menu was creative and the concepts were there...however I felt that execution fell a little. The black fried rice with the fried egg was not good. Skip that. The sweet and sour pork was good but nobody touched the hoison sauce smeared on the side of the plate. The flavors of the Double Awesome (the item that I was most excited about) didn't meld together well with me...eating cheese on a scallion pancake just doesn't work with me...and the sauce was just ketchup mixed with sriracha..it missed some depth for me. And the pickled carrots were limp. The biang biang noodles (vegetable one) was delicious and nutty. Overall, this place is worth trying because I think they are onto something good. Ambiance is homey and non-pretentious. Service was very attentive although the food came out on the slow side..or maybe we were just all hungry and impatient.

I was pretty disappointed with Mei Mei. I had gone once before and thought it was good, so I was excited to go back. We ordered 8 plates plus a dessert. The charred cabbage salad was one of the better dishes. I liked the fried egg on top, and the cabbage was cooked well. The steam buns were like slightly softer pretty bland dinner rolls, so for $6, that was ridiculous. We had the carrot and coconut soup, and the pork belly that came with it was amazing. The pierogi dumplings with sour cream and apple sauce were boring. The daily toast came with eggs, bacon, and greens and was yummy. The pumpkin fritters were dry, but other than that, pretty good. The triticale risotto was meh to bad. And the kung pao chicken dip was a weird combo of flavors: peanut and cheese? Finally the maple panna cotta tasted like jello. Literally. So I liked 3 out of 8 of the savory plates, and found the dessert to be gross. Our waitress was friendly, but left us waiting a lot for things like the bill, which was annoying on a Tuesday night. So maybe I'd go back if my friends asked me, but I definitely wouldn't suggest it. 3 out of 8 good dishes is just not good enough.

This place is delicious! Had the double awesome (scallion pancake, cheddar, and egg) and the apple parsnip fritters. The double awesome is like the world's best fusion egg and cheese - double awesome! The ambience is really neat - I mean they tile the bathroom floor with freaking pennies! The girl behind the counter was super nice too. There are a ton of vegetarian options too - can't wait to go back and try the others. I think the location is a little hidden so the place isn't as busy as I think it would be in a more prominent place. Can't wait to go back!

This place is great. I loved the philosophy behind it, and read about them in a bunch of articles and blogs posts, and had to try for myself. I work on organic farms and am what most of my friends call (I hope affectionately but probably sometimes with annoyance) , crazy about food. Not "crazy about food" actually probably so much as "crazy....About food." ANYWAY. Stopped in on a cold Saturday night. From the moment we walked in, staff was AWESOME. So nice, friendly, not at all flustered even though it was very busy. We got seated quickly at the bar and got to watch the chefs working which was really cool. Our waitress, Ro I believe, was so sweet and super passionate about all the dishes and could tell us not only about them but all about the ingredients that went into them. Amazing. Got three dishes to share and all of them were stellar. So beautifully prepared, complex flavors, healthy and fresh. (Hand pulled noodles!!!!) The atmosphere was great, the music, the happy people, the decor, all of it. So happy this place exists and I can satisfy my Asian food cravings and know I'm doing it supporting an inspiring business with a ethos I can get down with. Really excited to come back. Probably my favorite place I've been since moving to Boston.

I had not been to their food truck before so I wasn't sure what to expect, especially since I don't like to pay $$$ for Chinese food. Mei Mei was worth every penny and very reasonable, especially since everything they use is sourced locally. The restaurant is very cozy and cute. Been here once for lunch and for a quick dinner. - Double awesome I'm always hesitant to get scallion pancakes because I've only had the kind where it's super greasy and very flat with little flavor. I was really surprised by this! 2 poached-then-fried eggs and pesto wrapped in flaky, scallion pancakes. Delicious! I couldn't taste the cheese in this, but I also inhaled the sandwich, so...yeah... - Slow-cooked rice porridge Oh boy, those thin ginger slices cleared out my nasal passages and helped fend off any cold that was coming my way. I got it with the braised beef, which though not as plentiful as I had expected, was good. There was also their signature slow-poached, then fried egg on top, which when mixed into the congee made a velvety spoonful of food. There were a couple of chunks of Chinese crullers but they were a bit too crispy for my tastes; it didn't soften as it steeped in the porridge, so you didn't get that hard outside, chewy doughy inside as you would with a regular cruller. - Braised beef dumplings (with a side of Sriracha fried rice?) Love the braised beef filling. Nice chew to the dough, nice sear on the bottom of the dumpling. They do not skimp on the filling in these! I sat there thinking, "7 (or was it 6?) dumplings?! Pfffft! I can eat that in 5 minutes!" No, I sat there struggling to eat the last two wondering if two dumplings was too little a quantity to take home, but too much to eat in a reasonable amount of time since I was already so full. So I'm pretty sure I sat there for 45 minutes to finish those dumplings. The fried rice was a bit greasy for me, but I ate every single grain because I love my carbs. - Winter warmth curry Starch on starch: root veggies with rice cakes. Gives you a warm tingle in your belly and gets you hot as you eat it. A winner for a cold night! tl;dr - Nom nom nom. Chinese-American food with flavors you know, but with a slight twist. Nom nom nom!

It was hard to say goodbye to my new friends at Mei Mei. The staff was so nice and the farm fresh food was prepared quickly. I tried all the "Street" options and gotta give a shout out to the Magical Kale Salad, which I will order every time I visit. The dessert of chipotle Nutella and steam rolls is worth a try, although once was enough for me, the rolls weren't that special. Still, I give is place a total 5 stars. Large filling portions to share or go solo. Nice ambiance too!

Great food! Once we ordered the food arrived very fast and it was freshly made/fried. I highly recommend the corn fritters, they are the best hush puppies-like food I'd had in a long time! In general, I loved the menu and the vibe there, very casual and comfortable. The prices are very reasonable too!

Truly creative and perfectly executed! If you're looking for something unique, try this gem where local produce and meat are featured. We had the porco rosso, a sandwich made with scallion pancakes and it was excellent. The pork dumplings and kale salad were delicious, too. I wish the kale salad was larger because it was too good to be over so quickly.

  • Nat G.

I like the vibes here! This food truck favorite is now also indoors within a potential Restaurant Row at Park Drive and Buswell, Audubon Circle. My favorite, from the between-hours menu, was the Porco Rosso ($9), a scallion pancake sandwich with deli ham, cranberry hoisin, ginger-scallion ricotta and spring greens. Unexpectedly in 2nd place on my nascent ranking was the famous, modestly-named Double Awesome ($7) scallion pancake sandwich with local greens pesto, VT cheddar & 2 slow-poached-then-fried eggs; good--- but the runny eggs produced a rather doughy pancake. The scallion pancakes are not made in-house. By the way, those patrons who are hard up for the other kind of dough might be tempted to excavate the trove of pennies firmly embedded within the restroom floor. After a few months of excavation, they may be able to afford a down payment on the $32 Bavette Steak.

The Mei Mei experience takes the phenomenally good food of their eponymous food truck and ups the ante. While it is wonderful to sit down inside on a cold winter's day and eat some rice porridge with braised beef and veggies or a classic double awesome sando, dinner is like a revelation. The chefs and cooks of the Mei Mei truck have taken their signature rapscallion flavor mixing - without fear - to dishes like a chicken/red veggie/parsnip/tallow black rice combo, which is like having Thanksgiving at your favorite Auntie's in Hong Kong after finding out she's bonked half the culinary world in a take-no-prisoners secret/fact finding mission. The kung pao chicken dip appy is so good everyone at your table might make lurid noises of pleasure as they eat it, and the trotters and waffles will make you happy that pigs lose their lives to put a satisfied grin of sensory pleasure on your face, the meat completed with savory pillowy waffle goodness. I think the dinner food is smashing, and I look forward to the ongoing flavor adventure over at Mei Mei. The truck made me a believer, the restaurant makes me feel like a devotee. ...their manager even told me they will have Beer and Wine soon... (insiders tip: great place for a Sunday supper)

I have been enjoying their great cooking ever since they were just a little truck. Aww. But they have really grown up and their restaurant is fantastic. I know I can always find modern classics like the Double Awesome, or the Kung Pao chicken dip-which is honestly one of the best things I've ever eaten in Boston. But I also know I'll find inventive cooking, like delicious stirfries or a tasty new dumpling. And they have takeout. And they are fast. And they are so nice!

I read about Mei Mei a while ago and finally went tonight. Let me just say that the double awesome is amazing!! It does sound weird to mix scallion pancake, pesto, cheese, egg and bacon. Trust me though it was so delish. We got the corn fritters and those were really good too. I wasn't crazy about the bacon fried rice. The waitress was a sweetheart and the place is bright and clean. It was also packed, I can only imagine how crowded it is during the school year (its on a street with tons of BU housing) I wish the truck would come to Harvard Square (where I work). I'll definitely go back again for the double awesome. Highly recommend this place!!

I am in love with Mei Mei Restaurant. There was a period of my life where I would come here every day for dinner for a full two weeks. Something about the food that both 1) reminds me of home and 2) keeps it interesting. This place is a master at innovating Chinese food with local, New England ingredients. The restaurant menu is different from what they serve in their food trucks around Boston. For newcomers, I highly recommend the Double Awesome. Get it for your first meal.

will agree food is inspired and may actually prolong life if eaten in excess. but thought dishes had (with kilometric list of ingredients) absent of memorable flavor, even bland. may not stop me from coming again in hopes of a eureka-taste moment.

I loved the decor so I decided to get a meal here. I ordered the beef dumplings and fried rice. It was also delicious. The braised beef in the dumpling was sweet and savory, and the dumpling was fried to a crisp. Service was delightful. Only thing I have a problem with is the small plates they use. I felt like my food would fall onto the table if I went too hard with my knife and fork. Dumplings and rice came to $7.50. Not an every day thing for sure, but well worth a try.

This place is Outer Boroughs worthy! Fabulous food, great ambience. We had the Double Awesome w. pastrami. It wasn't greasy at all. The flavors were a party in our mouths. I warmed up with the hot spicy cider, super. The Biang Biang noodles w. Chili was excellent. Chinese five spice flavor. Swiss chard w. Panko & garlic. We had the Shave Cream for dessert. It's shave ice, w. crushed nuts & a smear of chestnut purée on the inside of the bowl. Amazing! Everything is prepared to be shared, which makes for added conviviality. Enjoy, can't wait to return! The service was wonderful.

We had been avidly following the opening of Mei Mei's new restaurant, but were still unprepared for how awesome it is in real life. The food on the lunch menu is just as great as what you get from the truck (double awesome for the win). We're excited to come back to try the dinner menu. Congratulations, Mei Mei, on such a beautiful restaurant!

Somehow, they made cabbage taste good. I'm not sure how. We tried almost everything on the menu, and it was all fantastic! I don't eat meat, but my boyfriend loved their Kung Pao Chicken Dip. The double awesome is tasty, the fritters are delicious, and the chipotle nutella that comes with the fried steam buns is great. Prices are reasonable.

I came to Mei Mei restaurant with high expectations being a huge fan of their truck, and to make a long story short I was not disappointed. The dumplings were excellent. Moist, flavorful, and just the right balance of filling equals pure bliss. The spring rolls were crispy, tasty, and served with an excellent dipping sauce. If I had to point to a highlight of the meal it was the Kung Pao Chicken dip. A fantastic take on an old standby. Fun to eat, delicious, and spicy. What more could a foodie want? As Douglas MacArthur said: "I shall return"

Phenomenal!! I almost don't want to write a review for this amazing place because I want to enjoy it and keep it a Boston's best kept secret! It's THAT good! It's hidden next to a convenience store in St. Mary's. The staff greet you warmly as you walk in and are very attentive the entire time you here. Had the kale salad and double Awesome and was very satisfied with both.. My friend ordered the General Tsao chicken. their take on this dish is a little different, they blend it into a dip and it's served with crispy bagel toast for dipping. The prices are amazing too. Portions are good and almost everything is around $7-$9. The only knocks that are keeping me from giving it 5 stars is there is no parking lot so you're forced to combat against BU students for parallel street parking. One side is designated permit parking only and you will get ticketed. Best bet is to come by public transit by the C line and take the St. Mary's stop. The other is that it gets kind of cold. It's somewhat small and with people coming and going constantly, it can get a little chilly. But it's all a small price to pay for the amazing food and service.

Gave this place a try the other day. Very impressed with the menu selection . Much different from anywhere else. Definitely unlike anywhere I've been in the city. I got the double awesome and chili noodles. The food was tremendous. Not the largest portion for what you're paying which is why I knocked it a star. Staff was very friendly and informative. I'll definitely be back to try some of the cool menu options...

While I hate to give this place less than 5 stars, my clothes reek of Mei Mei after I leave, leading my coworkers to think I'm sneaking off to work a lunch shift at McDonalds. Maybe they'll read this and fix it? Is that possible? Doesn't matter, I'll still go back.

I went to Mei Mei's last night with several friends, and it did not disappoint. We had always been huge fans of the truck, and it was great to see the work they did to take advantage of having a kitchen! The inside of Mei Mei's was warm and inviting, with a great atmosphere and great service. We shared the dumplings and Trotters and Waffles. The Trotters were absolutely delicious! I can't wait to go back and order it again. Dumplings were great as well; the savory broth that accompanied the dumplings were perfect. We also split the steamed rolls, which were great. I also ordered a double awesome for myself. I loved the pesto and the cheddar cheese really complimented the scallion pancake. I had a bite of my friends curry and a cabbage salad, both of which were great as well. We all loved everything we ordered! I can't wait to go back and try whats new, especially the corn fritters.

LOVED this place! The staff is SO nice and accommodating and the food is really great. I had the charred cabbage salad and the steamed buns and they were both delicious, especially the butternut squash butter on the buns. I hope they get a liquor license soon, but would still return just for the food.

I'm so glad this place opened up its first restaurant and I'm so glad that it happens to be down the street from me. Everything I've had here has been amazing. The food is unique, innovative and extremely yummy. In addition to that, the atmosphere inside the restaurant is so nice. I love the decor and it feels so cozy inside despite being surrounded by dorms and somewhat run down establishments such as a vacant building and a seven eleven. This place is definitely an upgrade from it's predecessor: a pizza place only satisfying for drunk bu students. If you're a foodie, definitely give mei mei a visit.

Mei Mei is really doing something great here. I've been a big fan of the truck for some time now and obviously the news of a brick and mortar opening was exciting. The atmosphere was simple but not boring, nothing too overwhelming. The staff is super friendly and helpful. I ordered the confit beef tongue and it was everything I had hoped it would be. The meat was prepared perfectly and the leeks were just the right pairing. We got the corn fritters on the side and they were perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. My biggest suggestion to you is to not be afraid to try something new. Mei Mei are seemingly masters of putting wild things together. Ask anyone that works there about something on the menu and I'm sure they would be more than happy to let you know what the deal is. If you get there for lunch I recommend the porridge, it's unlike anything I've ever tasted before.

Went in for lunch on a weekday and there was literally no one else in the restaurant the entire time I was there. Don't know why because the Double Awesome was amazing. Probably the best thing I've eaten in a while. Try it!
