Awful experience. I ordered a pizza for take-out and was told 15 minutes and asked to wait outside. It's a very small space, so I understood the request. I came back 15-20 minutes later and had planned on grabbing my pizza and eating it on the train to Salem. Well, it wasn't ready. The waitress (the only one) was so busy taking care of customers and clearing tables for incoming customers that she didn't even acknowledge me. She seated 3 other groups, and finally she told me my pizza was ready and handed it to me. I had waited an additional 15 minutes from the initial estimate. The worst part is that the pizza felt lukewarm, and sure enough when I sat to eat it (not on the train because I missed it thanks to the long wait here), it was almost cool. My pizza must have been sitting out awhile before she handed it to me. I got that she was busy being the only one there (with three cooks), but it takes 1 minute to get my pizza and give it to me since I paid in advance. And the pizza wasn't even great. The crust was slightly burned and the basil. Not worth the trouble.

We got takeout and 4 hours later, it was outrageous. Like Jane said, "SHHH". Go in and enjoy but don't tell everyone. This is hands down the absolute best I've ever had. Better than NY and New Haven combined. I've lived in the Boston area better than 20 years now and haven't had pizza like this. All I can say is that this is serious pizza.

Good thin pizza with fresh ingredients. Crust got a little burnt for our liking but overall good. The dressing on the house salad was very good!

Just had an outstanding dinner at locale. We got the baked ricotta appetizer. The bread was wonderfully crisp and soft enough that you could take a bite without destroying your gums or upsetting the mound of delicious cheese and pesto on top. Margherita pizza half-topped with sausage. Without doubt, one of the best pizzas I have ever had. Go to Locale. It's so good. I'll be back, we'll hang out.

Very good wood fired pizza. Friendly service. I do agree with another post however we did have to add salt to the pizzas. Great combinations. Balsamic glaze is a great addition. Definitely worth a try.

Have ordered the lasagna and chicken Parmesan both times I've eaten here. Absolutely wonderful food. I would like to try something else but can't resist my favorites.

Place was great, staff was friendly, and most importantly the food was amazing and well priced! I definitely recommend the Caesar salad. I would recommend Locale to anyone!

I live in the north end and can honestly say this place is a 5 out of 5 stars on the food. The atmosphere could use a little work, but the pizza is best in north end and perhaps best in Boston. Tasted like it did in Italy!!

  • Jonathan M.

Best crust in the North End! Been twice so far and been very pleased with all the pizzas ordered White Clam Pizza Margarita Tartuffo Highly Recommend!

Ive never written a yelp review, may not again..but I love this spot! We were in a rush, going to a show at the improv asylum, and this place had no waits, great prices and most surprisingly amazing pizza! Left fat and happy, will recommend to friends..waitresses were funny and helpful

Been here several times. In my opinion, best pizza in north end...or at least the most compatible with my taste. Thin crust, well done. Great topping combos, but not a giant menu, so they stick to what they do well. Nice beer selection if you dine in. Only recommendation would be to somehow make a bar with TV's like Pushcart.

  • Bradley G.

Great burrata ap and Meatball ap. Pizza's are solid. Atmosphere is nice good at night. A hidden treasure in the north end. Easy to walk by and not notice but worth stopping in and eating there. Enjoy!

I have lived in the north end for 3 years, and recently came across this gem. I'm going to come out and say it: I think this is the best pizza in the north end. Not only is the food superb, but the ladies take amazing care of you. It used to be easy to get a table when they first opened, but lately it is much harder.

Honest to god.......looks can be deceiving. This is a small hole in the wall place that didn't even have a lit up sign walking by it, (so keep your eyes peeled). Anyways, my girlfriend and I decided upon this place after a game and we're very glad we did. It's very small and intimate and has a very casual atmosphere. We started with the meatballs and marinara for an appetizer with a glass of wine and we would've been happy with just that, they were THAT good. The bread they give you to sop up the sauce was a nice touch. We ordered the Carmine pizza, which is very simple but so so good. Shout out to the blonde waitress as well, she was super helpful. We're absolutely going to come back here when we're in the area.

Just had a great simple meal at Locale in Boston. Friendly service, wonderful pizza. Recommend the Tortufo pizza and Caesar salad. A nice small local find.

Excellent food & service. Pizza is much less greasy than other places in the North End, and they have some unique toppings. I'm not sure why this place wasn't more crowded, but I definitely plan to go back.

  • Andrea C.

We got the tartufo, the meatball, and margarita. All three were phenomenal - my favorite was the meatball. We had an excellent glass of Italian red wine and salads for an appetizer. I will definitely be returning to try more.

Awesome pizza, lucked out finding this!! True authentic Italian pizza. We were scared upon entering, no one else was there.....what a find with great service!

I live in the North End and have eaten here five times. I love the room and excellent craft beer selections, but the pizza is way too doughy! I'm SO rooting for you Locale, but you need to figure out how to make a crispier crust!

  • Lauren S.

This is my new favorite pizza place in the North End! I've eaten in and gotten to go, and have never been disappointed. The salads are good, as is the baked ricotta appetizer. We've gotten the Tartufo and Broccoli Rabe pizzas, and the crust is always amazing, nice a crispy, not lacking for toppings or flavors. Atmosphere is always nice and comfy, with good service. Would definitely recommend for a North End place that's not touristy!

  • Sanchi K.

Was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed my pizza. I'm always suspicious if trendy places, but the za was delicious. Our table of two finished one whole pie plus a Caesar salad. We were starving from a hard days work, but still, a rarity to lick my plate clean. Come here if you're in the north end and a heavy Italian dish doesn't seem appetizing.

  • Justin W.

Decided to check out this place last night for an impromptu #theboyzdodinner and it didn't disappoint. I got the meatball, and the roomies got a prosciutto/arugula and a veggie/sausage pizza. Flushed it down with a few pumpkin brewnini's. The boyz were very satisfied. From my experience this new spot can go toe to toe with any other pizza place in the north end and is hands down best crust I've ever had. Deducted a star because service was a little slow and there needs to be some sort of music playing, it got a little quite. Place is new so I'm sure they will work out the kinks. I'll be back here sooner than later!

Pretty good pizza, a bit different from traditional north end pizza fair. In a good way though, well worth a visit.

There are a ton of places to get a slice of pizza in the North End, perhaps too many. Most famously, Pizzeria Regina tops most people's lists. Locale opened a few weeks ago, and I would argue it is better than PR. With its simple ingredients and superb crust, Locale is my new local pizza spot.

  • Kimberly B.

We were tired and hungry and this place wasn't jammed with people. Quick look at Yelp and I can't figure out why! Friendly staff, great service, fantastic Ceaser and amazing pizza. Reasonably priced! A hidden gem in the North End.

My husband and I had dinner at Locale last night and it was delicious! My husband had the Meatball Appetizer and I had the mixed green salad. The meatballs and sauce were spectacular! And the salad was very fresh! We ordered the Mushroom Pizza. It was so fresh and yummy! I am a crust person and I must say this is some of the best crust ever! I would highly recommend Locale! It is small so you may have to wait but it is worth it! We will be back!

Lived in the north end for a couple of years and this by far the best pizza. The meatball pizza might be one of the best pizzas in Boston.

  • Belle F.

Not your ordinary pizza! Ordered the Margherita, which was absolutely delicious, made with buffalo mozzarella. Thin crust, perfectly crispy. Paired it with a caesar salad, which was equally delicious. Also some of the best olive oil have ever tasted! Prices very reasonable, will definitely be adding Locale to our list of favorite restaurants!

  • Cici B.

Without question, Locale has THE BEST pizza in the north end. We love the Margherita pizza but also have enjoyed the sausage and pepperoni pies. And we just discovered the baked ricotta starter that comes with the most delicious tuscan bread. To all those who wait in line at Regina.... forget about it and try Locale!!!

Really yummy Neapolitan pizza - super good crust and fresh ingredients. The space is really cool and a nice addition to the north end. The service could be a little friendlier but I can forgive it.

I grew up around Boston, and grew up going to the North End with my family or friends to eat on a regular basis. We live in Ohio now, and I took my 13 year old daughter back home for a weekend sightseeing trip. We were headed up Hanover St to visit the Old North Church this past Sunday, November 9. After walking up and down the street trying to decide where to eat, we ended up here. I knew we were in the right place as soon as I saw the dome-shaped stone oven behind the counter. No "touristy" vibe at all, and several locals came in for take-out while we were eating, which is always a good sign. Every pie is the same size, with about 10-12 variations to choose from. Six different appetizers, and four salads....that's the entire menu, which I thought was very smart. They have canned soda, some wine and a few types of beer. They had one waitress, a very nice and hard-working young woman whose name escapes me...she was terrific. My daughter had a Caeser salad, and I had the house. Both were very fresh and crispy, with delicious dressings that were obviously homemade, and of course, the long shaved strips of fresh parmesan on my daughter's salad. For me, a simple margherita-style is the best way to judge the quality of a pizza, so that's what we had. Perfect, light crust, burned just a bit along the edge like a proper stone-oven-made pie should be, wicked-fresh stretchy mozzarella, fresh tomato and basil. Heaven. You need to eat here.

Great Spot! We orderered a White Clam Pizza and a Margarita Pizza. We loved them both. I spent the entire time stealing other people's crust. It was delicious!!! We will be back for sure!

  • Joe O.

Surprised to learn they were only open for one day before our visit! Organized and good service! The menu was simple and offered great starters - we had the meatballs and baked ricotta, which worked really well together. We chose the Brussels sprout pizza as a main course and loved it - good flavor, quality ingredients in everything. Go here!

  • D T.

Order the Margarita for take out. Similar to Quattro, but much much better. The only reason why I gave them a 4 instead of a 5 is that got take out, so I have a hard time with the "woohoo! as good as it gets!"

We's liking this place, is a pretty boom-boom hokay. We feeling these space, is a minimalist in a kind of a way. Is subways the tiles and woods on the ceilings an tiles little bitsy whitens the tiles on the floors. Is a clean, and remembers we some of us recollections this a space when as a boy is a little shop-a calls Willie Whites, long-a times agos. Back-then, like dat. Is good rememberies. Now for starters we only try couple the starters but we hears from some of the others that lotsa the starters, they pretty, pretty goodie. We liken the caesar the salad is a damp and a crunch with a good dress on and add some anchovies they use the whiten ones if you ask and they add a couple lire and a nice crunch crouton. Ohh dat Baked Ricotta is a mamma mia. Is a hot lil' pot with a creamy and a pesto and a slice wee tomato-o and a crunch slice warm bread for which you to slather the nice-nice. You slather the nice-nice onna the warm breads and you swiggy your biere blanc and you grin-grin. In two like twice the visit the help is a mighty fine nice. We giving prop tops for pizza we bite here the cacio pepe one, we add the mushrooms making extra goody boom boom. No so much similar-like the cacio pepe you get in the Roma which is sheepy sheepy salty pasta peppery-cheese but different heres and thats a hokay. This a toothsome crust a nice-nice char. Is a lil bit burned from the oven is a big heat hot. We do-a the puttanesca is a fine fetching sauce tomat. We liking the capers and cured olives but prefer we do the traditional anchovy with the salty the brine to the whiten ones here with the vinegar spash no me piage so mucho. Let down we were some with the white clammy pizza expectations maybe bit offing that night but it needs a bigger bing-bang this a-one, missed the garlic and not cheesy enough in a cheesy good way. The clams were only just okay and a bit rubbery in the chew. I thinking maybe some of that smoked mozzarella and a fontina would be a primo addition...a good chew pizza crust you'll begetting here and a nice attention beer list. Is a one-size fits all pizza, you try yourself two. Is a comfort. Is a rubbing my belly boy.

I've lived on Charter St for almost 8 years and this is such a great addition to the neighborhood. Great atmosphere and a solid beer lineup. The Brussels Sprout and Polpette pizzas are off the hook. Hands down one of the better openings in recent years.

Came in for apps and wine. Delicious. Ample portions, and incredible quality for the price. This is a great place for a relaxing bite without the pomp and circumstance (and price!) of other places on Hanover. Important to note that the menu for now is light apps/salad and various brick oven pizzas but everything is done exceptional.

Ordered take out from Locale this weekend meatballs were excellent and the pizza's were out of this world.. Just to make note though the phone number listed on yelp is not the correct number the correct number is 617-742-9600.

We were happy to find a table open on a Sunday night when all the other restaurants in North End had a long wait. The special salad, meatballs, and crostini were delicious. The pizza was just all right. As other reviews have mentioned, we had the same experience of one waitress for the entire restaurant of 15 tables. Service was fine but not personable and very rushed. The waitress rushing around made us feel less comfortable and relaxed while trying to enjoy our meal. They were out of almost all beers at 7 pm on a Sunday, they only had 3 of the listed beers available.

  • Cheryl K.

Truly thankful that we stumbled on Locale while walking through the North End. While searching for good pizza and decent beer, we couldn't have been happier to see the "pizza, wine, beer" sign out front. We walked in to the beautiful, cozy restaurant and were seated immediately by a charming and attentive waitress. After explaining each beer eloquently, we ordered a beer for the three of us and a pizza to share. Promptly our drinks arrived, stories and tales shared... And then my girlfriend immediately, while grandly gesturing during a story, flung her beer across the table and spilled everywhere. Catastrophe? Drama? Shame? None of the above. Our waitress attended immediately to the spill and the lost beer, made it completely normal and fine, and saved what could've been an incredibly uncomfortable rest of the meal... And the food?! Amazing. We got the "green monstah" special (pesto, cherry tomatoes, sausage, and mozzarella) and haven't stopped talking about it. Great, gracious and considerate service. Amazing pizza and great beer. Truly an incredible experience on this Sunday afternoon.

I remember eating at Locale sometime in their first few weeks of existence and being absolutely enamored with the pizza and the overall atmosphere as well as the extremely reasonable prices. I was worried that they wouldn't survive more than a few months, however, as it's a ways up Hanover Street and never seemed to be that busy. This would have been a huge shame as I've been convinced on subsequent visits that they are among the top 2 or 3 places for pizza in Boston. It's a tiny place and sometimes a bit understaffed, but any of those inconveniences are more than made up for by the quality of food. They have an awesome oven that seems to get pizzas done in under 3 minutes. Very cool to watch. On a recent visit, we enjoyed the Polpette pizza and the Cacio e Pepe, which was recently written up by Boston Magazine. Both were fantastic, and Locale allows you to do half & half pizzas which make it that much easier to try all of their varieties. On prior visits, I've tried the Margherita and Parma. All were great. Unlike some other places, they don't seem to have beer on tap, but they have a reasonable bottle selection. Wines are well priced, but our bottle of red from Calabria was served at room temperature, which in mid-August constituted as warm. Not my preference at all, but certainly not a deal-breaker. Overall, a casual, affordable, and excellent option for pizza in the North End.

Was craving pizza all day when we came across Locale. Cute little spot, not a ton of tables, but I like it that way. Prices are all very reasonable. I was clearly on a ricotta kick this day. Ordered their baked ricotta for an appetizer and we got the Polpette pizza. So good! The crust is thin but light and airy, and has amazing flavor. Staff was very welcoming, and attentive. It's a really nice addition to the North End.

On a freaken Tuesday, most restaurants in the North End was packed house! Ended up coming here as there was no wait. Turned out pretty good! They were def understaffed though. There was only one server. Slow service and sad to see she had to do all of it on her own. This is primarily a pizza place with a few other miscellaneous items. Tried the meat balls and a pizza. By now I can barely remember the details (that's what I get for waiting forever to review things), but just that it was surprisingly better than expected. Above average. Reasonable prices.

My favorite pizza place in Boston so far! I've been to figs and the crust was really crunchy there, but thought the pizza and appetizers here were perfect. A great place to go especially if giacomos has a 2 he wait...!

Tried this place tonight for dinner! It is saturday and hence, was able to get seated after a wait of 20 mins. 3 stars for food! But the servers are very rude! No thank you! No greeting when you are seated!

Great spot to grab a delicious pizza and a glass of wine. It is quaint even though it is located on Hanover and it is affordable! I would definitely recommend hitting up this spot!

Locale was very good, and the perfect spot to wait out a flash flood warning. My dad and I started with the featured Prosecco, followed by some Sixpoint IPAs. For starters, we went with a caesar salad and the baked ricotta dip. As someone with a very nonadventureous palate, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the ricotta dip. The pizza itself was very tasty, but kind of small. Service was spot on. I have no idea when I will be back to Boston, but I would definitely return to Locale.

  • Elyse T.

Tried the piccante, one with mushrooms and onions, and the Brussel sprout pizza. The service was good and attentive. Pizza was awesome, great dough and you could tell it was a good quality cheese. I think the Brussel sprouts on the Brussel sprout pizza could have been roasted instead of just being popped on raw, but good nonetheless. We were all pleased and will be back!

Nice setting slightly outside of the overcrowded part of Hanover st. No wait when we showed up and very pleasant staff! Food was good but the pizza felt small for two of us, I recommend an appetizer. Price felt about right for the North End and sitting by the window allowed for great people watching. Excellent stop at the end of a hot, busy day.

This place was refreshing compared to your typical north end experience of waiting ridiculous amounts of time to get a table. Though based on the rising amount of raving reviews, that might not be the case anymore. We checked this place out because it was the only place with a reasonable wait time (~15-20 mins). We ordered the baked ricotta, tartufo, and polpette. The ricotta was super good and a great start to the meal. The tartufo was great, and that's saying a lot because I hate mushrooms. The polpette was definitely my favorite though - the meat is really tasty. We also had some wine, and I was surprised they didn't card us because we were a bunch of young looking Asians. I docked a star because of the service. Within 10 mins of waiting there was a table that opened up - it had already been cleared but not set. None of the servers were attending to it though, and after waiting another 5 mins we asked about it. They just said the servers were really busy and would set it up asap. Seriously? How long does it take to set up a table? We finally were seated after a total wait of 20 mins, which was stupid cause that open table was just sitting there unattended for half the time. Anyway, aside from that the waitress was very friendly and helpful in suggesting what to order.

Excellent north end pizza. We were there on a hot day so the ac was appreciated also. We had the arugula salad, the carmine and the pizza w broccoli rabe. All were excellent. Service was great also.

  • Eric O.

this place was pretty cool, it is very small and it took us a while to get any service and a seat even though there was vacancy, however, once we received service our experience was great! this isn't the traditional kind of set up and or cuisine that I typically have in mind when I come to the north and for a meal, but it was very good and different. I come to north end usually looking for a hearty / home cooked meal "feel". This place was more modern like a boutique feel and a very limited menu; mostly pizzas and Italian appetizers / salads - no pasta. I'm not sure if I would go back again but I certainly don't regret giving it a shot.

Would leave no stars if possible. We had been waiting for some time, but the waitress hadn't given us a menu. When we grabbed one (it was on the empty table behind ours), she threw cutlery at us and then started shouting at us very rudely. The place wasn't even that busy so not sure why she was so stressed out. AVOID.

Everything you could ever want in Boston is in the NORTH END, and Locale is one of its shiny little gems! In fact its heaven if you love pizza, beer, and cheese. I ordered the Caesar with anchovies and the burrata to start, and followed it up with the Cacio e Pepe Pizza. Needless to say everything I tried was DELICIOUS and very well made, including the Grey Lady which is a local Belgian style wit beer. After dinner we took a quick walk over to Mike's pastry for a slice of ricotta pie, which I would highly recommend, but if that's not your thing then a canola should do the trick. Either way its a 5 minute walk and well worth your trouble.

What a shame. A group of friends and myself (10) were told it was a 40 min wait. We had no problem waiting. Fast forward an hr later - they seat the wrong people, a group of 6. No biggie, a friend goes in to tell the staff. We were pretty shocked when the server denied the whole thing............ ????? All we could see from outside was a lot of walking away, arm waving, yelling, and.. stares I get it, there's only 2 waitstaff and it's busy AF but don't proceed to walk to the back of the restaurant yelling over the tables and crowd to speak to my friend during the entire, now, argument (the party at this point hadn't even fully sat down and settled bc they, and everyone else, could hear the whole confrontation). This is such a small, menial mistake that could have easily been laughed off. It was embarrassing to us and them. We left. It's a fast-paced place. FOH should know what they're doing. Or at least be properly staffed. That was 2 mins of arguing with a customer who's service has been lost (we were a group of 10 - most of us living in the north end area), all other patrons moods affected for the rest of their 1-2 hr meals, some of whom may or may not be back. Unnecessary equity lost by an employee on your payroll. js.

This is a great place to get a different type of pizza is the north end. They are a little bit lighter with more of a bread crust than thin crust. More of a modern twist on pizza. Prices are reasonable and atmosphere is casual and modern which is hard to find on Hanover.

    (4)
  • Mike H.

My usual pizza place in North End is closed for vacation, so I thought I would try something new and different. Locale is not the place to go for a quick slice of sheet pizza for lunch. However, it is the place to go if you want to explore new flavors, quality food in a quiet atmosphere... and surprisingly, on Hanover. I had a glass of Chianti and the Brussels Sprout pizza. The pizza was white with smoked mozzarella, pecorino, pancetta and Brussels Sprouts. To top it off they provide a bottle of balsamic glaze that you can drizzle at will. The combination of flavors was great, although I must say the balsamic glaze was probably the best part, it really tied everything together and went well with the plain crusts ends.

I got misleaded by all the good reviews: The place is nothing particular and the pizzas were tasteless missing even salt. There was a need may be to save on ingredients. The margarita was almost dried and the mozzarella easy to spot on some distant areas of the red desert. The dough was kind of chewy. My truffle pizza came with an awkward burnt look all around it. My sister took the caprese salad which consisted in 3 pieces of tomatoes and 3 of mozzarella with basil. This is what a caprese should, even if, to be good and deserve 5/5, you need the best tomatoes, mozzarella, basil and olive oil. You'd also need to improve the look of it. The place would deserve a 2,5/5 but as I went there just following the very good Yelp reviews, taking with me family members (Italians) who ended up all quite disappointed about the whole experience, I will rate that place lower.

Absolutely phenomenal pizza...but the real special sauce at this "10" joint is the gem of a waitress named Renee. The pizza is truly epic but Renee kicks the whole experience to another level. She gets it! Customer service and satisfaction are her tradecraft. If you're in the north end GO TO LOCALE....enjoy some of the finest handmade woodfired pizza you'll ever have, and most importantly basque in the warmth and embrace of Renee...Moto Buono!

I've been to some of the best Neapolitan pizza places in the U.S. and Italy and I can say that Locale deserves to be in the conversation with the best of them. The Tartufo pizza and Parma pizza were culinary heaven. The crust was right on and the baked ricotta appetizer was the perfect start. Their wine pairs wonderfully with the pizza and the staff was friendly. My only regret is that I didn't have room in my stomach to try the brussel sprout or Cacio e Pepe offerings. I will be back next time I'm in Boston.

I went here and had some pizza. It was wonderful - no, MARVELOUS -- pizza. Boyfriend and I were floored. Probably the best pizza I've ever tasted. Personal pizza size was adequate. Not stuffed, but satisfied. Nice atmosphere but nowhere to put my coat. I ate the pizza and it was really really really nice pie. I said mm mm when I ate the pie.

Head further down Hanover Street and you will find this little gem. The service is spot on. We had a waitress that was attentive and quick. We started off with their fresh mozzarella and roasted red peppers, then onto a perfect Caesar salad. I m not a fan of this type of salad, but, Locale has convinced me. The pizza is incredibly delicious. 6 slices in one pie. Order two!

Delicious pizza in the North End. Crust was perfectly cooked. Small dining room so there may be a wait.

BEST PIZZA EVER!! My compliments to the pizza makers/ cookers. This place really is my favorite pizza of all time from the east to the west coast. I'm sure EVERYTHING on the pizza menu is amazing but here's what I got the first two back to back visits to this amazing restaurant and the things that I recommend- Had the tartufo (mushroom, caramelized onions, rosemary, and truffle oil). Delicious and not greasy. The Margherita- basic deliciousness. Can never go wrong with this one ???- This last pizza was the best. It had mozza cheese, pepperoni and we had sausages added. BEST marinara sauce. It was sweet and the freshness of the basil shone through this delicious sauce. And of course everyone praises the cheese and it's right on the money! *Additional tips- Takes credit and orders for take out Crowded streets so take a taxi, public transportation or there's a parkin lot one or two streets over. Small restaurant so there may be a bit of a wait during the weekends. Can't decide on which pizza to share? They did a split pizza for us (maybe bc the restaurant just opened and the house wasn't full)

This pizza is THE BOMB. As an Italian and having been recently to Naples, I think it's safe to say I know what I'm talking about! I'll be coming here again and again! Also the adorable Bostonian Italian waitresses made us feel totally at home and told us where the actual best cannolis are In the north end. LOVE LOCALE!

Can't remember the name but the one with figs, arugula, and prosciutto was awesome. Fresh ingredients, great crust, and amazing server. Perfect pace for pizza.

Holy Canoli! The food here is amazing. We had a meatball appetizer, a caprese salad and a half/half pizza with vegeterian and meat parts. The meatball "appetizer" is a full on dish with real italian tomato sauce (not some puree from costco) and caprese comes with giant chunks of mozarella and fresh tomatoes. Aside from the phenomenal food, cozy atmosphere and the music, the server Reneé is super cool! Enjoy y'all!

Amazing Experience. No Line food was out in 10 minutes. The lady who served us as well as her co workers were very helpful and attentive and amazing workers. THE PLAIN MARGARITA PIZZA WAS VERY TASY AS WELL AS COOKED WELL DONE JUST HOW I LIKE IT. Had a house salad previous to that was very tasy, next time I will check out the meatballs as well for a starter. I recommend Locale over the line at giacamos anyday. I will be back and to the lady who served us, we found fenway thanks for your help:)

SHHHH!!! Come and enjoy amazing pizza and wine, then leave and don't tell anyone how good it was!! Otherwise, soon the line outside this place will rival that of Mike's. But seriously, this place is SO. GOOD. The Piccante, the Tartufo, the Rocco. You cannot go wrong. The appetizers, too. For the wine, I especially recommend the Chianti. Yum, yum , yum...it's a good thing, for my personal health, that I don't live that close to this place.

Excellent pizza. Had the Rocco pizza. Crust is very good, tasty & well done. They were out of the meatball app which I heard is good. The pizza is the best I had in the Boston area. Trouble is it is to big for one & a little small for 2 people.

You always hear people say a place has great food or service and then just take it with a grain of salt. This place really was fantastic though. Highly recommended if you're looking for an authentic Italian pizza and great beer. They accommodate the kiddos pretty well too, had hi-chairs available.

We came in tonight for the first time and was impressed with the setting, service and food. Locale has less than a dozen tables and an open air kitchen. The service was perfect considering we had a fussy baby and needed to pull eject on dinner early. Here's the run down on the food (everything was simple & delicious): - Burrata w/ Peppers App - simple, but some of the best burrata I've had in the North End - Arugula w/ Pecorino & Lemon Vinaigrette - solid - Margherita Pizza - really good doughy, thin crust pizza Would absolutely come back

Why was this place not completely engulfed by a line of hungry diners-to-be? I came to Boston for one precious day for the first time ever. I had heard about the Italian cuisine in the North End, so I set out. I was a solo diner, so I thought I could pull off one of the more famous places without combating a line -- but I was wrong. I yelped until I found a place with immediate seating. Locale was SUCH a score. I sat in the window and enjoyed a glass of red before ordering. I got the caprese, which wasn't spectacular but I just needed some fresh veggies after eating like a tourist all day. I also ordered a pizza with my love of all loves, soppressata. I wish I knew the name of the pizza, but just trust me. Soppressata is the world's finest processed meat. I ate four out of six slices and then finished the other two for breakfast. And what's more, as a solo diner tucked into an awkward corner, the waitress offered me a second glass of wine -- on her. Traveling and dining alone is taxing, and the experience really upped the already strong game of Locale.

Oh my God, absolutely fantastic. My date and I were walking about the North End trying to find someplace to eat, but were put off by the lines of people waiting outside almost every restaurant (hey, we were hungry, what can I say?) I had read about Locale but assumed that there'd be an equally long wait. Imagine our surprise when we showed up and we were seated right away, and served by an incredibly pleasant and fun waitress who called us "kids" and complimented my perfume. We split the tartufo (mushroom, caramelized onions, rosemary, and truffle oil) and the polpette (meatball, ricotta, and pickled chilis) and both were excellent, though I preferred the polpette for the creaminess of the ricotta and the kick from the chilis. The crust was also fantastic--not super-thin but crispy and well-baked. Splitting 2 was a lot for me, and I found I could only eat about 3 slices, but my date liked everything so much that he finished off everything without a second thought. It was that good! It wasn't super-cheap--with wine it set us back about $50, which is a lot for a postgrad budget--but it was soooooooo worth it. A quiet, friendly, tasty space that doesn't seem as hurried as the rest of the North End. I can't wait to come back here!

I loved this place. I saw restaurants across the way with your long waits and I didn't have to wait at all here. I'm a lover of brick oven pizza, too, nice and thin, and this didn't disappoint me! I got a side salad and a half-margherita, the other half had chili peppers and was so good but can't remember what it was called. I ate everything by myself!! Great staff, very friendly, fun area, then ended with gelato down the street. Go!

I'm from the west coast. We do not have pizza like this. The dough is soft, airy and chewy with a nice crisp on the bottom of the crust. We had 2 pies. Prosciutto fig and arugula, the other pie was ricotta. Unbelievable flavor. The restaurants on the north end are numerous and pretty crowded. This place is very small, about 8-10 tables. There was only one waitress but she had non problem in providing excellent service to everyone. I would highly recommend this restaurant to any fellow foodie who is searching for the holy grail of pizza in Boston.

Went to Locale last night for the first time and was not disappointed. I am a North End resident and having seen the restaurant constructed I always wanted to give it a try. From the great waitress (unfortunately I forget her name) to the excellent unique pizza offerings, I was completely satisfied. We had a sausage ricotta pizza that was enough for two and beers (pizza pic uploaded). I will definitely be returning when we want to have pizza in a sit down atmosphere. Speaking of atmosphere the place is very nice with white subway tiled walls and old wood ceiling. Not much on seating so a big party may be tough but if you want a nice place to eat great pizza, Locale is a spot to try.

We were meeting a friend we hadn't seen in many years and decided upon Locale after reading other reviews. It was a rainy Tuesday night so it wasn't at all busy. The ambience was much nicer than what we were expecting based on photos we had seen. Lighting was soft and there was no music so it was easy to have a conversation. The Crostini was our appetizer and the combination of prosciutto, ricotta, and hot honey was scrumptious. Our waitress was very nice and attentive, and I feel bad I don't remember her name. We ordered the Rocco pizza, which she said was great for meat lovers, and she was spot on. It was one of the best pizzas we have ever had. It was the perfect amount of food for three people. We left feeling satisfied, but not so stuffed that we couldn't enjoy a stop at Mike's Pastry down the road.

I absolutely loved the prosciutto-topped crostini. I also loved the Caesar salad (with a heavy dose of anchovies in the dressing) and the various pizzas we had (I can't remember what was on all of them). I'm not sure if I can add anything to the reviews before mine, but it seems like you just can't miss here!

Pizza was one of the best in Boston! Make sure to get the olives and bread to start with some of the local microbrew beers (no beers on tap) Pizza came out hot and fresh. The tomatoes tasted like they were just picked. Friendly staff and warm environment to enjoy some pizza and people watch if you get a seat by the window.

Delicious pizza! We waited about 20 min for a table but honestly I would have waited longer. My husband and I shared a salad and a pizza for less than $30. The server and the hostess were super nice. The dining room is tiny so I wouldn't suggest coming with a large group. I had the meatball pizza and my husband had the rocco. I really liked that they let you do halves, that made it so much easier as we were traveling and didn't really want to lug leftovers. It's great to find a place that does traditional Italian pizza- like one I would find in Italy!! YUMMO. Thanks for a great meal.

Just enjoyed another phenomenal pizza from Locale. I live in the neighborhood, and this has quickly become my go-to when I'm craving a pie. Perfect crust (charred, yet chewy), incredibly fresh toppings, and fast service. I usually get the margherita or sausage, both of which hit the spot, and have also tried (and loved) the baked ricotta app. SO good. Locale never disappoints. I may or may not be addicted. (I am.)

I adore the North End and I abhor standing in the street waiting for a table. So when my date and I found ourselves wandering down Hanover at 7:30 on a Saturday night, we knew our options were extremely limited. We popped into Locale expecting a wait and by some kind of gastronomic miracle were immediately seated. Ordered (and split) the baked ricotta, ceasar salad, and a meat dense pizza. All items were perfectly dressed and proportioned. Had we known the pizza would be so epically delicious, we would have ordered a second pie to split between us! Crazy good pizza. As a new resident of CT, I've had a lot of pizza in recent months and this outshines the rest by leaps and bounds. New Haven ain't got nothing on Locale (sorry not-sorry Nutmeggers). As a former food service employee and frequent diner, I was really impressed by the pace of the service. Our table was never without an order item and not long after one plate was cleared, the next item was on its way, hot and ready from the mostly open kitchen you can watch just over your shoulder. The dining room is cozy and well curated with a simple and modern aesthetic. Cozy lighting is amplified by the glowing pizza oven. I have this theory that people who have claimed to have "the best meal of my life!" in the North End, are claiming so only after they had been waiting close to two hours outside in the freezing cold, lubricating their digestive system with a a mini-drink from the local liquor store. Save yourself the tummy grumbles and frozen finger tips and head to Locale for what is justifiably one of the best dining experiences in Boston.

First off.... The staff was very nice and helpful. The place is small but very nice. The pizza... Mediocre at best. Top was burnt and body was doughy. I know I ordered on a busy Friday night. But $16 for a so so pizza for one? Even though I live 50' away, I will not going back.

I lived in Italy two years and rarely had pizza this good. A glass of Barbera and a pizza that was half prosciutto, fig, and Gorgonzola and half picante con rucola. Wow. An artisan.

If you love pizza this place is a must try. Just happened to walk by and decided to give it a try. Waitress suggested either the meatball or buratta for a starter. Tried both and was not disappointed. Then for a pizza we had the calabrese with sausage, rabe and hot cherry peppers amazing.

SO SO GOOD! DELICIOUS! AMAZING! ASTOUNDING! I'm currently sitting at the restaurant, just finished my food, and cannot get over how delicious the margherita pizza ($10) is! My boyfriend had the Rocco pizza ($17) and he's also obsessed with how good his meal was. My sister and I shared a pizza and with that and the appetizer we were pretty full. Anyway, I totally recommend Locale!

Without a doubt, best pizza in North America! We had the barrata to start then a pizza with sausage, pepperoni, soppresatta, provolone and mushrooms.... Quite simply the best flavored pizza! Great food, great service! A must if in Boston.

We ate here twice over 4 days and it was stellar both times. The salad was delicious and the pizza sublime. The Service was great and the wine was as well. The space is a little tight and the chairs aren't the most comfortable, but it was clean and efficient. The experience was very, very good.

I live around the corner in the North End. I can eat anywhere I want and this is my go-to place. Pizza is great. Service is wonderful. Laid back. Intimate. Beer, wine. Don't miss it (unless it causes me to have to wait)!

Great new restaurant in the North End. Relatively inexpensive. The Spicy Soppressta pizza special was amazing! Also recommend the Baked Ricotta appetizer. Good spot, interesting beer selection, great service and great food! I highly recommend trying Locale if the other restaurants in the North End have a line.

Pretty decent pizza at a cool little spot. I loved the combinations of Locale's offerings, but the actual pizza fell a little flat. It was just a tiny bit bland; salt and pepper are your friends. The crust was cooked to perfection, I will say that. Place itself is very cozy, and the service was excellent - especially considering the casual nature of the place.

Cacio E Pepe Pizza which is the four cheese pizza (i believe?) was the very first meal i had in boston... came here on a whim because everywhere else was packed as sh!t. thought it might be a flop since it wasn't too busy inside (weird since they do have amazing reviews on here & it happened to be a friday night), but little did i know i was in it for a great surprise. THE PIZZA WE ORDERED WAS OFF THE HOOK! we added the prosciutto just to add a meat to it since we were starving. some may say, "well maybe it was good because you were eating with an empty stomach." i say, "NOPE! sorry, it's THAT good." we tried coming back on our last night but by 9pm (think it closes at 10?) they had already run out of dough. =( we were so sad about it! the dough has a nice chewy-ness to it that adds a nice element to the pizza & the toppings were fresh & of high quality. you can just tell by the way it melts in your mouth, everything. i would be lying if i said i didn't miss this place... because I DO SO MUCH! i'm still on a hunt to find something close to this nearby.

Great food, great prices! Service was a bit slow, but I'm guessing it's because only 1 waitress was taking care of the entire restaurant

I was underwhelmed. First, the rookie waitress, maybe 18, tried to bully us into buying three pizzas instead of two, even though we were ordering other sides, I am guessing so she did not want have to order a third later if we were not filled up, or she wanted to pump up her tip. She did not realize there was a chef at the table and I had served in a restaurant when I was her age. My wife caved when she kept pushing, just so there was not a scene. If I was her boss, I would have fired her, but I am guessing she was somebody's niece who could not handle the Saturday night pressure and/or she just lacked social skills. To be fair, I think she realized she screwed up, because she was "nicer" the rest of the night, but it was already too late, at least for me; I guess the 18 percent gratuity they force down your throat with the bill is not much of an incentive for her to behave. Still, I would get rid of her. Now, on to the food. The pizza was very good, except....the dough was not crisp, and I HAVE had pizza in Rome Little Italy, and Monterrey. The toppings were very fresh, and very bland. Strange: the red pepper shaker pepper was WAY to hot, and my wife is from Sri Lanka; most gringo diners might have their meal ruined. A little over site which I feel is a metaphor for this place; a little detail can ruin a meal. Swap out the pepper variety, pronto. The meat and cheese platter was awesome, but the bread was just OK. We had a chianti which was just right for the food though the girl tried to push the prosecco on us. We opted not to get the dessert. Two of us might go back, three of us would not. None of use would really recommend this place. What it really needs to do is: dump that nasty young lady, she had no right to make such big tips with such bad social skills; add some GARLIC and Italian seasoning to the food, and figure out how to crisp up the crust; not not blame it on the humidity! The crust was gummy. YUK! Headed over to the Modern bakery to have an awesome cannoli. At least the food evening was saved.

I'm almost hesitant to post a glowing review, for fear of this place becoming overcrowded. :) Locale is a gem, and a great addition to the neighborhood. Obviously the North End isn't hurting for pizza places, but these folks are doing inventive things without being trendy or pretentious. Delicious food (and not just pizza!) and a low-key, cozy atmosphere that will give you something a little different from the norm. Our excellent server was ready with suggestions, conversation, and attentiveness in just the right proportions. My new local favorite!

This place has some amazing pizza ! The pizza margarite was delish, crust was crisp moist, and the cheese was true mozzarella! Loved the sauce too. Cute atmosphere and waitress was hard working and very pleasant! I will come back here next time when I visit the North End!

Really good pizza from a wood fired oven. Very attentive service. I went to Locale on a Saturday night. Since we were a party of three we had to wait ten minutes (two tops were still available for walk ups). The wait time quoted was accurate. The servers accurately assessed that we were in a bit of a rush to get seated & order since it was late for our 8 year old. They have a short menu pizza, salads, and appetizers. The pizza was very good (we had the margherita and a white pizza with ricotta). The crust was just outstanding with a really nice smokey wood flavor at the finish. The servers kept refilling our water glasses (important after a summer day walking about town). I was also impressed by their knowledge of the short wine list. She accurately related the different tasting notes between a barbera d'alba and the sangiovese. Each of the wines on the list were also available by the glass. Our Caesar salad was very good. The bread brought to the table was outrageously good with a very nice crust. I had to ask for olive oil for it. The table next to us had a problem (the pizza wasn't delivered in a timely manner). The server dealt the problem very well: she sincerely apologized, asked what the store could do to make it better, and when the customers didn't answer, she offered to buy them drinks. Their pie came very shortly thereafter and the guests seemed happy the whole time (they had eaten appetizers). Seeing how the server dealt with a problem was probably more informative than my very smooth experience. The store is moderately handicapped accessible (no steps) and the rest room is marked as accessible and is large. The dining area was very clean and has a view into the open kitchen. I'd go back to Locale in a heartbeat.

We are visiting from California and on the Freedom Trail when we stumbled onto this place. Wow, great taste and everything so fresh. The only problem is it's too far to come back to eat from California. The service was great, food packed with flavors. The meat ball is to die for. What are we going to do when we get back to California.

Tried to get a table here Friday and was told there would be a long wait so we decided to get pizza to-go (we live around the block). The hostess took my number and said she'd call when the pizzas were ready but an hour later, still no call. My boyfriend went over and the pizzas were in fact ready and cold at this point. I was disappointed when we opened the boxes and found that the crust was burnt on both pizzas. However, despite the fact that they sat around a while and were burnt, these pizzas were actually really good. We got the Polpette (meatball) and the Cacio e Pepe. Loved the little bit of spice on the meatball one. Not sure what it was but it seemed kind of like minced cherry peppers. We may try Locale again but we'll give them some time to get things figured out. For now we'll stick with Ducali.

We tried to go 3 different times, and every single time we showed up they told us they were only taking to-go orders even though it was between 8:20-9:00 with several open tables, while the restaurant was about 80-90% full. Never trying again, not worth the trouble.

Lovely little restaurant, roped us in via curb appeal and Yelp reviews. The food: we ordered the baked ricotta appetizer and two pizzas. The baked ricotta was okay, the chief complaint being that it was a bit bland and in need of some salt and spicing. It contains a delicious pesto, but was sadly localized to one corner of the dish and hidden under the ricotta. Would have loved more of it, with a better distribution. The pizzas were excellent. I had the four cheese pizza, which was not at all heavy or overly cheesed. A great, simple presentation of the cheeses with a delicious olive oil drizzle. Occasionally had nuggets of black pepper, which I wish had been more frequent for better flavor enhancing. Husband had the prosciutto with arugula and raved about it. We both loved the crust and the simple treatment of the pizzas - everything was fresh and free of red sauce, which would have drowned out this style of pie. The interior: awesome. Has the charm of a small cafe with neat lighting and antiqued chairs, plus an open kitchen and pizza oven. The owner and staff: all extremely nice. The chef came out to great us and the owner served us. We were well tended to throughout. Final word: would recommend and will return. Would love to see them up the spices just a bit, but really appreciate the simple treatment of the wonderfully fresh ingredients.

My husband and I ordered 2 pies to go this past weekend and we had high hopes bases on all the great reviews. The margarita piewas completely bland and needed salt to make it worthwhile. The sausage and broccoli rabe pie had even less flavor and we jussed it up with someref pepper flakes. Really disappointed and have checked this off my North End eatery list.

My brother and I T'd it down from Somerville to avoid moving-day chaos, and instantly became pre-occu-"pied" with Locale. We ordered the capers/white anchovy/black olive pie and it was outstanding. What an amazing combination of toppings for a tangy yet not overwhelming taste. The dough was blackened at the perfect spots. If you're looking for that big, greasy, hangover-cure slice, go to Ernestos. But for the intersection of toppings and taste, come to Locale. You won't find it in your "Locale" freezer section!

I rarely give a 5-star review but Locale absolutely deserves it! We purposely sought out the restaurant based on Yelp reviews when we were in town with a group of six for a Celtics game. We didn't have much time but when we arrived and told our waitress we were in a rush, she was fantastic. We started with the meatball, caprese salad and Caesar salad appetizers. All amazing! Best meatballs and tomato sauce EVER! We then had 3 different pizzas, each better than the next. The crust is just right thickness and the cheese unbelievable! Service was great. I've been to a number of places in the North End but Locale is hands down one of the best. We can't wait to return.

My husband and I came to Boston to visit with some friends. Came across Locale while strolling the Noth End and it instantly caught my attention. It was a very nice relaxed atmosphere and the pizza was out of this world. We had the Rocco and the one with the Figs and Prosciutto. The best !!!!

Picked this place out based solely on reviews and as usual, Yelp proved itself to me. The pizzas were so good and had unique flavors. I recommend the Cacio e Pepe pizza and the baked ricotta appetizer, hands down. We went on a Friday night and the wait was not too long. It is a small establishment, but definetly worth a visit while in the North End.

Excellent, fresh, homemade pizza lovingly prepared in a brick oven by a neighborhood family. The small menu keeps it right using simple, local ingredients that cater to varied tastes. The dining area is rustic yet modern and while loud, very inviting. Perfect for families or small intimate gatherings.

  • Mac D.

Really great pizza quality and toppings options. The crust is thin, light colored, and soft with dark, charred spots that tastes like it was baked in a very hot oven. The atmosphere is also really nice- our waitress was great as well. The reason for 4 stars, not 5, is because my salad wasn't too great. I just got the house salad and found it really oily and sweet. I also noticed other tables got bread to munch on before their food came, but we didn't get any

Every thing I have eaten here is delicious and fresh. It's the kind of food you crave. They offer really tasty Italian wines that aren't too pricey. The space has a relaxed modern/rustic vibe. This has been a great addition to the North End.

Went here for the first time with my kids and friends based on yelp reviews. We were not disappointed. The place is quaintly small and comfortably appointed. It was foremost clean. :) The staff, one waitress, was awesome! ...friendly and prompt even with the flood of diners that seemed to follow us in. The pizza was amazing... The meatballs were the best I have tasted, and the sauce was so good it was drinkable!!! We WILL be going back.

Small menu makes it easy decide that you must try one of Locale's delicious pizzas! Party of 5 shared two salads and three pizzas - margarita, pepperoni, and special of the day: a white pizza with spinach, ricotta and garlic - all for $15/person. Best part: the crust! Would definitely recommend the friends when in the North End.

Great place to eat!!! Awesome atmosphere, wonderful waitress, great prices, and DELICIOUS pizza! We got the mushroom/onion pizza and the crust was the best I've had... Very fresh and HOT! Definitely worth a try :)

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations.
