Dropped in for the New England Patriot game. I enjoy a little dive or pub and this wasn't to bad. The Caesar salad my girlfriend ordered was over dressed (not surprising) but the bartenders were friendly and helpful giving tips on where to go in Boston. A couple good beers on tap. Drank a Yuengling Lager draft. It's been years since I've had that beer. 3 star bar

I think the outside of the restaurant is much more interesting than the inside. From the street it looks like a quaint little pub. From the inside you have a dark uninteresting dive bar/restaurant. Service is spotty. There were maybe three people seated when I was there but the waitress "didn't see me". Maybe because it's pitch dark inside. There weren't a lot of options on the menu and I settled for a BLT with homemade chips. The beer I ordered from the menu was no longer available. My BLT was tasty. It's hard to mess up a BLT - and I was satisfied. I wouldn't seek this place out but I certainly didn't hate it.

Friendly staff. Great sweet potato fries and boneless chicken wings. Local feel. Comfortable atmosphere. Cold beer.

We stopped by with my craving for chicken wings while in Boston, and the three of us were incredibly hungry. We ordered the calamari, wings, and spinach/artichoke dip for appetizers... and the chicken parm, steak, and atlantic grilled salmon for dinner. We finished the appetizers, but the portions were bigger than expected so we couldn't finish the meals! As far as quality of food- the wings were crispy and pretty good, the calamari was delicious, and the spinach/artichoke dip was kind of bland. The meals we ordered were pretty good too, but my friend didn't really care for the chef's risotto that he got as a side (it may be that he's just too picky, i don't know). The waitress was friendly, nice, and attentive; checking in on our food and drinks every five or so minutes. For the tavern being small, the bar was full and there was only one table open for a Monday evening. I throughly enjoyed it overall, and left with a full stomach.

I was only visiting Boston for a couple of days, but this place still became something like my home bar. The staff is friendly and quick, the beer is good, the atmosphere cozy and the food is awesome (except for the Mac & Cheese). I really liked the Sunshine Burger and the draught Stella. A perfect combination. The other guests are nice as well and less pretentious than in most other bars I've seen in Boston. If I come back to Boston, this is the first place for me to go.

Intermission is an unfortunately mediocre restaurant in an area over saturated with restaurants. The good: - waitress was nice - clam chowder, though tepid and uncommonly thick, was pretty good The bad: - crab cakes were more filler than crab - risotto was pretty bad--creative in the worst way, for some reason it was bright red (leave risotto alone) Not the worst I've had, but you have options. Go elsewhere.

Absolutely love this diamond in the rough. I came here once for lunch, got the burger and sampled some of my friend's sweet potato fries. IT passes test #1 with flying colors and levels up. XP +5, Charisma +3. Came here again with a group of six friends for drinks. We ordered tequila shots (what was I thinking?) They promptly filled up six lowball glasses halfway. As Hemingway would say, we got tight. IT levels up again. XP +7, Charisma +2, Generosity +2. Tim (Pyrrhically?) levels up, too. XP +2, Sobriety -4, Good Feelings +10. We ended up closing out the bar, and had a great time just shooting the breeze. We were the last to leave, and the wait staff incredibly kind and courteous. Like the first time. See you next time!

Came here for a late lunch so there were only a few people inside. The bartender, who was also our server, was really nice. Loved her Irish accent. My daughter had the chicken Caesar wrap, hubby had the fried chicken sandwich and I had the BLT on white toast. Everything was delicious. The BLT didn't seem very toasted but I found it still "toasty" enough with lots of bacon and tomato. Portion sizes were large and prices were good for the amount of food we got. I had a bottle of Heineken, which was nice and cold. It was really hot outside and the A/C was nice and refreshing.

The Intermission is like a rite of passage when it comes to events in the Theatre District. What's not to like about this place? It's a come-as-you-are type of establishment. They know their customer base -- they want to eat and drink quickly and at an affordable price point since they're already paying Boston show prices (typically at the equity or union rate, too). Anyway, my friend and I came here one night before seeing a show (surprise, surprise). Yes, it gets very busy and sometimes very quickly. However, if you are slightly patient, there is a good chance that one of the bar seats will turnover rather quickly, too. And that's just what happened for us. We were running short on time so we ordered a plate of the boneless barbecue bites and a huge-ass plate of fries. The food came really quickly and as it turned out, the "boneless bites" were essentially chicken fingers. So it wasn't exactly what I thought they would be, but they actually weren't bad. Wings, boneless wings, chicken fingers ... they're all fried and seriously, how do you screw them up? Our bartender was super friendly and the other bartender was exchanging some friendly banter with us. He knew we weren't tourists and that we knew the ins-and-outs of the city so the conversation was rather snarky but fun. Overall, it's a fun place to go before a show. Do keep track of the time so you're not having to rush out or be late to your show. Be patient and you'll get a table or a bar seat with no problem.

Quaint and warm. Stopped in to warm up on a June night that was below 50. 2 TVs, both playing Stanly Cup finals. Bar tender efficient, but not much more. It's an amazing old Tavern in the Theatre district, and I had to stop because of how unique it looked on the outside as compared to the rest of the neighborhood. Prices reasonable for alcohol. Didn't eat while I was there.

Had the fish sandwich and it was awful, hard to enjoy it when the tartar dripping everywhere.the crumbs from the fish and the bread was falling apart.

This place is very unassuming, especially being right next to the Tam (aka the dive bar extraordinaire). However, that's what makes this place great. It's low-key, you can get food here too (haven't tried any, though), and grab great drinks. I was never really into martinis, and then all things changed once I got here. They make a mean martini! First time I went here, a couple of coworkers and I got Manhattans. It was insanely strong (as it should be), but it was still drinkable, which is how I would classify a martini. They also have a separate menu for their own list of martinis. Came here another time with other coworkers, and we got the chocolate and tiramisu martinis. Delicious, but still very potent! Take a swing by here if you're looking to change up your drinking ways!

Intermission serves up some classy grub. I was really impressed with this bar, which we chose for lunch solely based on its proximity to the Boston Common/Public Garden. We started with the spinach and artichoke dip. This came with a heaping pile of warm pita bread slices. Oh my goodness. Delicious. Definitely ranks near the top of the most wonderful dips I've consumed, for sure. By the time we were through with the app, we were... beyond full. I really didn't even need more food. But, since we had already ordered... My main dish was the fried chicken sandwich, served with curly fries. This was ALSO amazing. It had swiss cheese and bacon on it, and it was sooo good. I hated how much of it I had to leave behind since we were tourists and weren't heading back to our hotel in the near future. I insisted to our (extremely friendly!) server that I loved it, but was just too full from the app. My mom was less thrilled with her chicken caesar wrap. She didn't like the sauce in it. I tried it and thought it was great, but it definitely had a different kick to it, so I understand why she personally didn't like it. Another thing going for Intermission? It's so clean! Or, well, at least it was at midday. I know it's a bar right off a college campus, so that could make it questionable, but nope. It was great all around. Even the bathroom. Really enjoyed my visit. If I'm back in Boston in the future and in the area, I'll definitely make sure to stop back!

I liked this place so much better than the neighboring Tam, there's no comparison. + Friendly, chatty, helpful bar staff shared great ideas and information with us. I guess this used to be a gentleman's club long, long ago... interesting. Was made to feel like a regular, despite this being the first (and only) visit. + Good tap list; tried a few really unique brews, and they were reasonably priced + Friendly patrons; one of the regulars made a few suggestions for Chowder and unique Chinese food + Comfy interior with great feel and vibe. Bar was super inviting. Background music was really cool - I used Shazam a bunch of times and scored some awesome new tunes. Don't hesitate to drop-in for a drink and light bite here. You won't be disappointed.

This is such a cute little tavern. A friend and I went in on a Sunday night and the place was pretty empty. We sat at the bar and the bartender on shift was great. She put effort into each drink and was very attentive at all the right times. Why 2 stars?? Here's why--the owner is disgusting. He was sitting at the end of the bar and after a drink or so I wondered over to say hi (not knowing at the time he was the owner). He introduced himself as the owner of the bar and I complimented his bartender. We chatted about how all of bartenders are great, etc. Then things took a turn. He went into detail about what he would do to me if he took me home that night. Too much detail to mention on Yelp, but trust me it was completely inappropriate and totally unwarranted. I walked away to tell my friend what had happened and the guy next to us overheard me. He said it has been happening all night and he was disgusted to have given this man his business. We all agreed, paid the tab, and left. I'm from a small town where similar (but not as offensive) talk is not abnormal. I can handle grimy guys. But this was by far the most disgusting and awful experience I've had. No way should this come from the owner. He should be kicking guys like him out of the bar.

Had dinner here last night with the family. I had steak tips w/ side salad & Mac n cheese. Mac n cheese is slammin'!!!! Steak was ok but could have been a little more flavorful. My oldest son had the regular wings ( he's not a sauce fan). He liked them but said they were a little too spicy for him. Daughter had grilled cheese w/ fries... Loved it! Hubby had Cuban w tater tots... Sandwich was ok... Tots were the bomb! Other son had nachos but can't count his opinion because he's picky with almost everything! Overall not to bad of a spot to hit with the kids in tow.

I wandered in with a friend on an unexpected night. Wasn't really hungry, just wanted some food to snack on before a long night ahead. Totally didn't realize I would have the best sweet potato fries EVER. And that sauce that comes along with it made it even more amazing! The place looks pretty unassuming from the outside and granted it wasn't much of a looker inside either. Drinks were alright. Will be back on a day when I need like a sweet potato fix.

My father and I came here before a concert and it was very good! My father said "Give em three stars!" but I'm giving 4 because I thought 4 was a better verdict :) he got the pulled pork sandwich, which he said wasn't better than his (hence the 3 star review) but I got the BLT and it was soooo yummy!! Asked for my fries extra crispy, and they were, AND curly!! The onion rings were also crispy and delish! My Patron margarita with extra salt was as I requested it and yummy :) we'll definitely be back!

Oh Intermission Tavern, how you have disappointed me. I will only give it two starts because I've been there multiple times for drinks and everything was dandy. Love the cozy atmosphere. Now for the food.... Was in the area with my wife on Saturday night and we both craved a good burger, so per the usual checked out Yelp and saw intermission's four stars and voila! My wife ordered a well done Sunny Burger and I got a medium well Portabello burger which sounded delicious. First off, our waitress REEKED of marijuana. I mean, I understand this is a relaxed place and have nothing against people's choices of smoking it per se, but this was so blatantly obvious that even the people sitting at other tables had to turn around. Anyway, as we got our burgers, the condiments, buns and side dishes were great, but my burger patty was completely burned, so I pointed that out to the high waitress and she was all like "Oh, I'm sorry honey - I'll get you another one!". And then I've heard "honey" 100 more times after. So she was trying to make up for it, I get it. Meanwhile, I asked my wife if her burger patty was just as burned as mine, she said it didn't seem to be and proceeded to eating it. Half way through her burger, my wife realized that the second half was way more charred and basically inedible. She wasn't going to ask for another one because she was pretty much full at that point, but she could've easily taken the second half home if it wasn't all carbon. So, when the waitress came up with my new burger (which still came out as "well done" and not "medium well", I did mention that her burger was half burned too, and was hoping she would at least own up to it - but instead she gave a very snappy "Well, you ordered a well done - what do you expect?". So she calls me "honey" but then treats my wife disrespectfully. Very disappointing. So, at this point I'm thinking that the Saturday night cooks must've been smoking together with the waitress because clearly that is not what any burger meat should look like, especially as it seems on other nights they are great (based on the Yelp raves). I still gave the waitress a tip, albeit below 20% due to her lousy effort to rectify a pretty trivial situation. Will know better next time and stick to beers. I've had much better burgers even around the corner at UBurger.

Their macaroni is to die for. Had it twice in as many days. Delicious and addictive. House infused pineapple vodka was also amazing. Laid back and low key- my kind of place. A little low on seating, but people seem to flow in and out pretty quickly.

Great place! Owned by a fellow stagehand who is still a presence sitting at the end of the bar looking over his establishment. Kind of a sports bar theme, although not in a douche way. Signed show posters from tours line the walls giving a great challenge to any touring stagehand to find their friends (I found 1!). It's a great place to go after a show at one of the many nearby theaters. The beer is cold and the food is warm, what more cold you want in a late night menu? And unlike too many late night bar menus there are enough non-fried food items to have a real meal even late.

I have gone to school across from this place for the last four years and never bothered to step inside. But after hearing endless stories about the pita chips and other delectable noms a friend and I made our way over. First off, the pita chips really are all that. It's like they're handmade pita breads, deep fried to a crispy perfection and wedged around a mountain of rouch blended red pepper hummus. Touche. The service was super friendly and great for a " I could be a regular here" atmosphere. The tavern itself isn't the largest but the booth table seating and seats at the bar are enough to fill a decent crowd and you don't have to wait long even on a weekend night. The decorations are somewhere in between homie and carnivalesque with a ladies leg lamp and a naked painting smack dab in the middle of the bar. Menu is chock full of good ol' bar food but don't let that make you pass it by. Piping hot tots come piled high next to burgers and the wings are out of this world. Try the ginger terryaki and do NOT skimp on the coconut lime dressing. That bad boy should be served on everything. Definitely excited to come back and get a little more familiar with the drink selection and the rest of the menu.

I've come to intermission tavern a couple of times, once for a beer and the other time for dinner. The bartender was very friendly and attentive. When I came in for dinner, the service was a little confusing as we had three different people waiting on us and we were never quite sure who was responsible for us. However, all of the servers were nice. I had the "It's always sunny in Boston" burger. It sounded so delicious with the sunny side up egg, bacon and cheese, but I just wasn't blown away. The onion rings were good. I'd be willing to give this place another shot. The prices are really reasonable.

The restaurant doesn't serve Sam Adams beers or ciders, (you may ask the restaurant why yourself or google this restaurant to learn a lot about their views, which i'm prevented from writing about on Yelp...) It's certainly strange that a touristy restaurant in Boston would not serve drinks from our most popular local brewery. Like every other restaurant in Boston serves Sam Adams, so this greatly lessened my consumer experience. Most notably: our waitress appeared to be inebriated and invited herself to sit down at our booth, while espousing political views that we did not share -- I believe this to be highly inappropriate. Food is decent. A bizarre and unpleasant experience.

Just got drinks here on a Friday night. Real mixed crowd, pretty casual. The service was good, decent draft beer selection, and it was also pretty drafty sitting on the stools next to the front window. Men's bathroom could use some work too.

This place is good. The atmosphere was enjoyable and the service was really good. It's dark inside which I like. The wings were amazing. Definitely get those for an appetizer. We got a philly cheese steak and a aways sunny burger both of which were nothing special. The onion rings and tator tots were delicious though. I would come back and try something different.

So sad to have to lower the rating. Went here for a double date dinner before a show again at the end of February. Service was awful and slow! The other couple were catholic and Friday night out they couldnt have meat. So they ordered seafood. He ordered the seafood chowder and was brought beef stew!!!! what the heck! Waitress only commented they were out. No apologies! my dish was over cooked and bland....same thing I had last time. I know chefs have off nights, but overall this place has gone downhill and we will not return.

I shouldn't have ignored the bad reviews about the weird "bouncer" guy they have working at the door. I was looking at the menu posted at the outside wall when he aggressively approached me and my girlfriend. He was drunk and blowing smoke on our faces. After politely stating we were just looking at the menu several times, we decided we'd be better served somewhere else and left without ever going in. Terrible experience.

Great burger at a fair price. Grabbed the Sunrise - the fried egg was just a little overcooked. Made up for it with fresh ingredients. Short beer list, but great selection on tap. Wonderful side dish selection for the burger. Sweet potato waffle fries, onion rings, french fries and TATER TOTS. Friendly atmosphere with classic tavern feel.

Great spot to meet up and catch a drink before going to the clubs within the area. Even if the clubs are full, great spot to go to. The bartender is nice and it feels like everyone else knows each other in this spot. Very relaxing friendly vibe.

Used to frequent this place with my wife when she worked at Emerson College. As an alum, she and her friends were huge fans of this place. But....are you gay? Do you not like when businesses speak out AGAINST gay rights? Well, then, unfortunately Intermission Tavern isn't for you. They've recently cut all ties with Sam Adams and no longer sell their product. Allegedly, this is directly related to Sam Adams' response to the discrimination of LGBT folks in Southie's St. Patrick's Day parade. I won't be giving them my money anymore.

Horrible place. Stopped in for some food the other night with my gf before hitting a couple clubs. The bartenders were rude and seemed to only attend to people they knew. And I even saw them give away free dinks, saying this round is on me; yet we, paying customers had to wait a ridiculous amount of time to even be offered drinks. The entire place smells too. Never coming back.

Great place to come before a show at any of the local theaters. Meals are reasonably priced. Had the stake tips, rossitto, and Caesar salad. All very good for the price. One downside it was a bit chilly in there and my friend wanted tea but they didn't have any.

From out of town. Looked up on yelp. Seat yourself. Sat down for 5 minutes while frat boys were at the bar, bartender doing nothing, drunk employee staggering around outside, waitress washing dishes. Gave them one more minute. Still no one comes to see us. Walked out. Waste of time. Avoid.

    I. T. Is a cute little place with decent prices. I got the shrimp cocktail (nice large shrimp), The potato cheddar soup and the spinach salad and all three were delicious it's definitely more of a bar feel than a restaurant, it's quite dark with a long bar and then just one row of tables along the opposite wall but it was very inviting and a good experience. I would recommend it.

Walked in off the street and were instantly transported to a rustic theatrical tavern. We sat at the bar and were welcomed by Jean out fantastic bartender! After ordering martinis which were filled to the brim and sumptuous we delighted in our entrees which were handcrafted and made to order. Absolutely recommend this hole in the wall! Delish!

Heard great things about the spinach and artichoke dip so I had to come in and try. It definitely lived up to the hype! The artichokes could have been cut a little smaller but the dip was amazing and the pita chips that came with it were a perfect fit for the dip. The service was great and the beer was reasonably priced (not typical for Boston). Overall, awesome!

We came in from out of town and needed a quick bite. While everyone went to a bigger tavern down the street, we gave Intermission a chance and it was the BEST dining choice we could make. Our family of 4 ordered a round of burgers and they were some of the best we've had. The fries were crunchy, non oily, and the service was fantastic. Do NOT be put off by the size it was a perfect first Tavern experience in Boston.

This is my go to place when downtown. Laid back and excellent background classic rock! The day bar lady couldn't be nicer. Makes a nice drink. They serve a very good lunch menu, burgers etc. RE: No Sam Adams--Because Sam Adams pulled out of St. Patricks Day parade sponsorship.

Intermission Tavern, what can I say?! Your crab cakes were SO delish on my first visit in 2011, that I HAD to return for a repeat! I was in Boston with a few friends for St. Patty's weekend, and we were craving seafood (crab to be specific). We were in the theater district to register for our pub crawl, and our paths crossed with the 'I.T'. We walked in, greeted the gorgeous pin-up on the wall, ordered our cakes, and went with a specialty St. Patty's Day drink. First out the gate was the iced Irish 'Coffee'. To sum that up in a nut shell, the drink was 12 oz of alcoholic goodness. Second, two stacked crab cakes, snuggled among a bed of baby field greens. When you cut into these beauties, all you see is crab!!!!! Being that we were just there for an app. and drinks, three of us were munching on the crab cakes when the chef walked out with a third, saying - "I didn't want to ration you!". It was nothing short of amazing! It goes without saying, I returned the following day to get my 'fix' before returning to California. Thanks again, Intermission Tavern! I will be seeing you again soon...
