This a great spot for brunch after church.

We just moved to Charlestown and came in here for breakfast. The food was excellent and the service was even better. We'll definitely be back.

I normally don't eat omelets, but I decided to try the Hash and Cheese omelet. I was not disappointed! It filled me up quite nicely, and it was reasonably priced at $10. The only negative I experienced was that the waitress was not attentive to us.

I've lived in Charlestown for 2 years and first time here. Probably a good thing considering had I discovered this sooner whatever diet I would have been on would have been blown. Sat at the counter. Lynn calls me by my first name. Had the Townie French Toast which is dipped in Baileys. They have every flavor coffee you'd want.

This place gets my positive review on their food but also the way they treat their customers. We came in on a Tuesday morning for a quick breakfast before we dropped off our guests at Logan. We parked right in front no problem at this time and got a seat right away. We ordered normal breakfast items; eggs, bacon, toast, potatoes etc. All of it tasty and well done. No issues with it. The server was nice too and spoke spanish which helped our party since we all speak spanish too. Toward the end of our meal a small group of kids came in with a teacher and sat down. They were all given an order of pancakes. As we overheard, they are students of the month that are treated by the owner of the restaurant on a monthly basis at no cost. I don't know if this is all true but it seemed like it and all the kids loved it. That, to our group, took it over the top as a place we would recommend. They seem like good people. The place is also clean and well kept as well. No issues here.

We're from Phoenix and thanks to Yelp found this gem!! Husband and wife team own the cafe and work behind the scenes too. We had a nice chat with the wife and the hubby stopped by our table several times. Jill was our awesome server and breakfast was so yummy!! And you must have an iced coffee while you're there or get it to go......snicker doodle was delicious!! Thanks Grasshopper!!

Very slow. We were only one of four tables. Food not very tasty. I wish we did not eat here.

Great location (free weekend street parking and nestled in the heart of Charlestown), tasty breakfast foods (enjoyed an egg, cheese, and sausage breakfast sandwich with home fries--under $10!), and very friendly wait staff. "Small town diner" charm cannot be beat, they treat you so well it made me feel like I'd been going there for years. Will definitely return and recommend for an affordable breakfast/brunch in the city!

Indifferent service. Could not even get one refill on a 2/3 full cup of coffee and waited over 20 mins for a check. Eggs were hard and greasy. Breakfast potatoes were great only reason for two stars. Don't bother with this place absolutely not worth the walk or wait.

I recently moved to Charlestown and was hoping to find a great neighborhood breakfast spot, this will not be it. The food was average and the service was indifferent, if not on the rude side. We asked for the check and then waited at least 10 minutes to receive it even though there was only one other table in there.

So welcoming and "home style" breakfast! Prices are reasonable. Portions are perfect! Can't wait to try lunch.

Pros: awesome staff, great neighborhood egg joint ambience, great home fries. Cons: we expected a little more from the food based on reviews. Eggs were dry, sausage was cold, most ingredients tasted really generic.

Just had breakfast here. Food was average. However, what blew me away was their pricing policy. I had 3 eggs with bacon, potatoes, & toast. Menu price: $7.99. Got the bill & it said $8.99. Thot it was an error but no. Waitress pointed to a lttle notice at bottom of menu that said prices subject to change. She says owner buys everything fresh & prices vary. I have seen this often in resraurants for meat & seafoods but not eggs. My wife had same thing but with 2 eggs & she paid the menu price of $6.99.Thats like going to Starbucks & ordering a menu drink listed at $1.99 & being told price of beans went up today so you would be charged 50 cents more. BAD BUSINESS MODEL! Do they charge less when price of eggs go down? I doubt it! When I went out the dorr I asked girl at counter about it & and she was somewhat condescending, calling me honey. I will never go there again.

As a resident of San Francisco I know good brunch. This place is better than most places I've been to in CA. Owners and staff are hands down the best around!

I live a block away and want this place to be good so bad. Have given it 3 tries and every time the customer service is just flat out horrible. I can give a place with great customer service and below average food a decent rating, but bad customer service is always a 1 star. Getting ignored is the worst, especially when you walk in and sit down an no one acknowledges you. Other customers come in after you and are served right away. Add to that the food is 5/10. I've had orders not brought out because the kitchen forgot then rushed out to me and its still frozen. I'm completely done with giving this place chances. Maybe one day Charlestown will grow up and get some restaurants that actually care about their customers. The only reason this place is busy is because there are no other options. I love seeing bad service places put out of business.

Imagine an awning at a restaurant like the Grasshopper Cafe is automatic, retracting when it begins to get windy, and the rainwater it is holding completely SOAKS a finely dressed woman as she happened by...Can you imagine an owner of such an establishment telling the now soaked woman that she will BE SORRY if she brings him any 'bad press'? I can! It happens at The Grasshopper Cafe!

Early morning walk around Charlestown led us past this little jewel. "Diner" is the most accurate description...but they do it justice. Classic American breakfast menu...some nice baked good options...coffee bar that attracts drop-in takeout orders. The corned beef hash (something I keep any eye out for when traveling) was excellent. My companion's vegetarian omelette was well received for its array of fresh vegetables. We arrived relatively early (8:00) and sat right down at an open table...by the time we left on that Saturday morning, there was a wait.

I called Grasshopper at 11am Sunday morning to place my order. The call was not picked up and went to voicemail. So I walked there and ordered a Western omelet, a medium hot coffee, and a large hot coffee. The omelet on their website is priced at 8.49, on the menu in the store it's 8.99. On the chalkboard in store a medium hot coffee is 2.09 and a large is 2.39. 8.99 + 2.09+ 2.39 adds up to 13.47. The cashier told me the order total was 16.60. That seemed high to me, so I asked the cashier to do it again and she quoted the same price. Is it really 3.13 cents tax on it? It is added up on a computer screen that you cannot see and I was not given any receipt so I'm not sure how their math works out. I then went to their facebook page to ask about this and received a message "Hello if you contact the restaurant they can tell you that information. Thank you." Their coffee is the worst in Charlestown. Dunkin Donuts, Zume's, Sorelle's are all better.

Stopped by just before 2 PM (closing time). We felt a little bad, but we really wanted breakfast food and had heard great things about this place. The staff was really great and did not turn us away or make us feel unwelcome for coming in just before closing. Apparently the kitchen closes at 2, not the restaurant. And I'm really glad they let us eat there because the food was so delicious! I had the corned beef hash with two eggs + home fries and toast. The corned beef was in thick chunks, but was still very flavorful. The home fries, while large chunks of potatoes, had enough of a crispy outer layer for a good crispy:soft potato ratio. Toast was standard. There were no complaints in our party of 7! Prices were pretty standard, fitting for the portions. I was pleasantly surprised by how friendly the staff was. They never made us feel rushed which I greatly appreciated. It seems like there might be a longer wait if you get there earlier, but unlike many of the breakfast places I've sampled around Boston, this one actually is worth it!

We were visiting a friend in Charlestown and he suggested that we come here for brunch. Given the close distance to his home, we were for it. I expected a long line upon arrival so I was quite surprised when we got there, strolled right in, and got seated immediately. The server was very prompt and gave us menus as well as a drawing sheet and crayons for my toddler. Everything looked so good! I had the Old Ironsides breakfast which was more than enough. My husband ordered the breakfast burrito which was amazing too! The guacamole was delicious! Our friends both ordered the crab cake benedict and loved it! All in all, this was a great place and definitely one to check out if ever in the Charlestown area! I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu.

I'm a Brit living in Charlestown and my American wife told me we should go to grasshopper cafe because they serve an "English Breakfast" (called Irish breakfast at grasshopper but same thing). From my experiences of American breakfasts I was skeptical, I was expecting weird round sausage patties, crunchy bacon etc. I like that stuff but it's not how we cook ours usually. Wow was I wrong, grasshopper cafe makes the best British breakfast I have had on US soil, if not the planet! Meal was delicious, bacon was perfect, AND IT CAME WITH BAKED BEANS AND BLACK PUDDING!!! Absolutely unbelievable! $30 for 2 coffees, and two full breakfasts. Will definitely going back . Thanks grasshopper!

Always reliable, always friendly, always a good breakfast choice. We love coming here on the weekends. The prices are reasonable and the atmosphere stays true to that local city diner feel. The food isn't necessarily the best I've ever had, but it's consistently good. If you're near the area, stop by for one of the best spots in Charlestown.

This adorable little place was our go to spot for breakfast while in Boston. My first day eating at the Grasshopper Cafe, I had the Annie Goat omelete (tomato, basil, goat cheese) with home fries. I also had one of the best cappuccinos ever! The omelete was pretty good, but I would have liked it more if it had more goat cheese. The home fries were just OK. I also tried their strawberry and banana pancakes and they were great! They bake the fruit right into them. Yum! The second day we ate there I wanted to try their Crab Cake Benedict, but for the second time, they were out of crab cakes. Such a bummer! This definitely cost them a star, since it's a regular menu item and we were there shortly after they opened. I ended up trying their Costa Rican breakfast (fried eggs, black beans, salsa, sour cream and a side of home fries) and wasn't too impressed by it. I also tried one of their pumpkin pancakes and that was the highlight of my meal. I would try this place again. Maybe the third time is a charm and they'll have crab cakes!

Stopped in on my own on a gorgeous Saturday at 10am. It was surprisingly empty - she said there was an early morning rush, then everyone was out in the weather. I sat at the bar and the waitress quickly stopped by, told me the specials, and was pretty great. The menu has a lot of interesting stuff that sounds really good. I was sitting in front of the muffins and they looked SOOOO good - lots of chocolate chips. So I went with one slice of blueberry coffee cake french toast to start. It's basically a piece of coffee cake that's covered in french toast stuff and cooked. Waitress was so excited in describing it - and it was good, but I was set up for it to be the best thing ever and it didn't hit the mark. But it was really quite good. I think I was hoping for a little sweeter and crunchier. Next, I had the Cuba benedict special. Had some pork and other stuff done eggs benedict style. Came with home fries which I asked for extra crispy and they were - quite good. So this was also quite good. But I wanted it to be incredible and it wasn't. I think the problem for me is that I spice my food well at home (lots of pepper and sauces) and this food had good ingredients, but lacked any spice or kick. I should've added some hot sauce or pepper. So I think that's why I was disappointed - tasted a little bland to me. But it was good. The prices were fair-moderate. Not crazy. I'm giving them 4 stars b/c the service was great (super friendly), the menu was interesting, and the food was well made

A great spot for brunch. On Sunday our entire family (9) had a great brunch. The food and service was exceptional. I had the Cuban omelet which was outstanding. If you have a large group, they would certainly appreciate a call and it might save you some time waiting. Will definitely go back when I am in the area. .

The reviews are true. This is a breakfast gem in Charlestown. Friendly service.. But be prepared to wait. I had the Deluxe breakfast sandwich. It was so good, I could eat it every day, fried egg, bacon, cheese, tomato, and guacamole. Perfect combination. As my mom ate her broccoli and apple bacon omelette next to me she said.. 'This is the best omelette I've ever had. And I mean ever.' Coming from her, who goes out to a lot of breakfast, this is a huge compliment. I guess the omelette was a perfect crisp on the outside and fluffy in the inside. Her reviews may mean I need to try it next time. If I can resist the breakfast sandwich. Dad had the breakfast burrito- but thankfully took our waitress' advice to go light on the jalapeños, because it was hot. Can't wait to go back.

I am sad to write this, but this place, well it just sucked. I'd love to be able to say it was an adorable place with delicious food and friendly people. Especially with a name like Grasshopper Cafe! I love grasshoppers, they're green, which makes me think of grass, which makes me think of summer and happiness. AND, I love grasshoppers the drink. Mint and chocolate!!! But it wasn't any of the above. It kinda sucked. Coffee = regular boring diner coffee that probably wasn't very fresh because it got cold quickly. Breakfast burrito and potatoes = flavorless. I mean, honestly, it's not that hard to throw a pinch of salt on your food, nevermind charge $12 for a breakfast that has absolutely NO spices, nothing to jazz it up except for the dallop of guac on the side. I had to actually look for the cheese, to make sure that the one tiny slice was in there. I asked to hold the jalapenos, because I do not like them, maybe for others that would have given some flavor but even still. The only exception was the sausage in the burrito, pretty good but certainly not worth going here for. Service = okay, I guess? I was confused, as the server said polite things but could not get an inkling of friendliness to ooze out of her. Did not ask how my meal was, and didn't really seem to care. Ambiance = just, whatever. I should mention I was one of only 3 tables on this sunny February weekday morning. I was alone. Maybe their breads are good? Maybe fabulous pancakes? I dunno. I don't care. A fairly costly bad breakfast it turned out to be. I want my money back. Go somewhere else. I should have gotten the buttery, cholesterol- and salt-filled big and toasty from DnD .

Cute place to stop before or after visiting Bunker Hill. The restaurant provides a regular menu and has specials for those willing to deviate from their staple breakfast choices. The coffee was typical restaurant coffee, and the OJ was good. If you eat before ascending the monument order what you like because you will surely burn some calories while hiking up those almost 300 steps. If you go after successfully climbing those steps reward yourself because if you are not a native to Boston area the hills and beautiful uneven cobble streets will put you through a constant workout that warrant multiple rewards on your vacation.

Enjoyed some breakfast here after a fun night in the city. We got there around 9:30 on a Sunday and luckily it wasn't too packed so we got a table right away. The food was great. I had the Western Omelette, with a side of fruit and a bagel. Other dishes at the table included pancakes and the special, a jalapeno cornbread benedict. All were delicious per the people who ordered them. There was one small mistake in the order but it was quickly rectified and we got some loaded homefries on the house, which we didn't need but definitely enjoyed. Great service, great atmosphere and excellent food. A good choice if you're a local or coming in from out of town.

Loved this place! Staff was so friendly-the 4 star is just due to waiting so long for our check and food wrapped. But the food was delicious! Best breakfast potatoes!! My husband got pancakes with bananas baked in and they were awesome. Love, love, love! Would def come back if back in town again!

Great great breakfast place! The omelets here are amazing. Very big and has great flavor. I also get a side of fruit and it is very good and fresh. The home fries here are also really good. They make they nice and crispy which I love. The service here is a little slow though. Sometimes I am ln a rush and it takes forever for waitress to take my order. They also are not very good with refilling my water. The food is great though so no complaints there. Just wish the service was faster.

I've been to Grasshopper many times since the Mac n Cheese incident and I think it was an aberration. Get the loaded hashbrowns, snicker doodle iced coffee or pistachio muffins!!

Grasshopper Cafe is the quintessential coffee shop where neighbors & families & visitors alike head to for a great cup of coffee and breakfast. You can sit down for a nice meal or grab n go your beverage and muffin/fruit which they also have a great assortment. They also feature fun & seasonal specials on the menu too. A recent favorite of mine: blueberry coffeecake french toast. Flavored iced and hot coffee with great flavors: my favorite, banana hazelnut. Brewed from the bean not the syrup stuff! The owners and staff are wonderful and customer service is excellent. They're also very philanthropical, donating to local Charlestown causes and events. We love this neighborhood spot!

So glad I found this place! Thanks yelp! Built my own omelet and it was great! The apple wood smoked bacon is very good! Also split the corned beef hash great hash but small portion for the price (7.39 for a side order) overall very good meal! Will definitely be coming back! Also the home fries were excellent!!!!

While staying in Charlestown I was looking for a place for brunch. Was told to check out GHC but to call first because sometimes they are not open. Ok? Well I didn't call but they were thankfully open and had 4 spots open at the counter. Very clean, open and comfortable place. Television on wall, semi open kitchen and a great coffee bar area. Basic breakfast fare until I got to the loaded homefries. Oh my I had to have them but didn't want to have a full $8 order. Well I was talking to what looked like the head cook and asked if they offer a half order. He was nice enough to tell me he could make my side order loaded. Perfect! Put my order in and watched the guys at work. Wow they are fast! Prior to that I got a snickerdoodle iced coffee which hit the spot so much that I ordered another. Food was out in less than ten minutes and I wasted no time. The loaded was aptly named for sure. Salsa, cheese and avocado. #drooling. Many people coming in just for coffee which means they are doing something right in that department. Being close to the kitchen you get to be privy to employee chatter. I plead the 5th on content and it was barely audible but it did put a smile on my face. The only bummer was when I got the bill. I understand I had to pay extra for the loaded homefries and am totally ok with that but when don't you give out free refills on coffee? If I had known I would get charged per then I would not of ordered a second one. Huge deal? Not really but let me know the rules instead of being somewhat shocked when the bill shows up. I will definitely give it another whirl when in the area.

As a breakfast/brunch place, this was very good-- a little pricey but good. The kids (12,13,14) ate off the adults menu and got three huge buttermilk pancakes with blueberries in them that rivaled home cooking! I had a goat cheese, spinach, tomato omelet that was good but needs an herb, at least chives, to bring out done flavor. My husband had steak and eggs that were very good but the steak (angus and excellent beef) needed some seasoning IMHO. The home fries were awesome. The only thing I would contradict others on is the honey butter-- thought the flavor was soooo light that I wouldn't rave about it.

Grasshopper is steps from my apartment and I love it! I have been in for a sit down breakfast a few times, and it is very good and the service is good too. I more frequently come in and order at the counter to go. The woman who owns it is so nice! she remembers my name and always say hi to me. I also love the woman who works the counter in the morning, I think she is Spanish, she is awesome. She remembers what I want every time. I am super picky about muffins, I legit only eat chocolate chip. I love their chocolate chip muffins, but it they don;t have any left, then I won't get one. They are very understanding of this and don't push me to get anything else. When I come in, the woman who works the counter will let me know if they have any muffins left ! love it! I also frequently get the pancakes /french toast/ or egg sandwich. All are very good! I love the honey butter they use on the pancakes. amazing. What you really need to try is their coffee, snickerdoodle to be specific. Iced or hott, it is my favorite!!!!!!!!!! Love it here!!!! They are so welcoming and really put their customers first!!!

Cute place. Full of local families. A great place to gather with old friends. Staff is friendly & attentive, though quite busy. Coffee is normal, nothing out of this world, but the food is great. Well priced. As everyone says the home fries are great. Ate an omelette that was huge!! Dedicatedly a recommended breakfast place away from tourist tucked in a quaint neighborhood. And if you walk here from the subway- you have the bonus of walking up a huge hill & burning some of those calories you are about to consume.

We enjoyed this terrific friendly and casual cafe for a late weekend breakfast. The service was perfect --fast and efficient without that overbearing nature. The menu was varied. The ingredients were fresh resulting in a tasty meal. Both the waffle and omelet were top notch. We requested a crispy waffle and got just that. Too bad the real maple syrup would have been an extra $2.49. The crab cakes Benedict looked tempting. I'll have to try it on a subsequent visit. A bonus point: the cappuccinos were excellent.

I am a regular at the Grasshopper Cafe. I love the place. I bring family and clients here all the time. I find the pricing just fine and they are accommodating when it comes to changing things on your order if you desire (no fried potatoes, but how about fruit instead...sure, of course). Yes...it's a diner but there is a full range of choices and the muffins are homemade, as is the hash. I doubt that there are many choices of really nice, family-oriented, business-friendly breakfast places to go to anyway in Charlestown, but the Grasshopper Cafe easily stands on its own against any reputable diner. (On weekends, there is definitely a morning rush = a bit of a wait but that just means it is worth waiting for, in the first place!)

Oh my! What a great breakfast we had. We actually walked her from the hotel based on the clerk's recommendation. Am I glad we did! Then we walked to the Bunker Hill museum after that. Ok, this was a breakfast that you talk about years later with your family, "Remember when we . . . . " The pancakes were large and fluffy and flavorful. The eggs were fried like my granny used to make them. Not sure how that is but I'm thinking in bacon grease. Yeah, I know but man they were good. The best part - the Corned Beef Hash. Best I've ever had. Up to this point the best I'd ever had was in NY city. This was much better.

Love this place! All the food is good. The veggie omelet is great; it comes with home fries and toast. Love the rye toast with their special sweet butter! Pancakes are huge and delicious! A must go! There's usually a wait on Sundays so be prepared.

Excellent brunch! We were four and had four different things, all were excellent. Runny eggs, crispy bacon, pancakes, bread... all very very good. The shop is nice, sunny, and has big windows. Very prompt, friendly service. Prices are very reasonable. Coffee was good, but not great. Only reason why I don't give them 5 stars. We would certainly go back.

Wait, wait, and more waiting (and I'm not talking about getting a table). After we ordered a simple meal of a turkey club and what turned out to be premade coffee cake French toast we began our waiting adventure of over an hour. Not only did it take forever but the refill on my coffee didn't happen for at least 4 requests. Don't even get me started on the water refill which didn't come until after I paid the bill. Not worth the wait for the uninspired food by the way.

I really really really wanted to love this restaurant, but it just isn't good. The service is extremely nice and accommodating, but the food is so bland. I live in the area and was hoping that I would add this to my favorites, but every time I have given it another shot I am sadly disappointed.

Great service, mediocre food. We got there about 930 on Sunday. Place was busy so we took this as a good sign. Here's the summary: - Vegetarian Benedict - Spinach and tomatoes and eggs were okay. English muffin was so soggy and untoasted, not good. - Corned Beef Hash - Not good. Lots of super fatty chunks and extremely mushy potatoes. - Old Ironside - Pancakes were okay. Everything else tasted like it had been sitting on a warmer and was not made to order. When it comes down to it, everything could have been made at home for 30% of the price and three times the freshness.

I had heard good things about this place and wanted to check it out. I went in and did not know if I was supposed to order at counter or if table service was available. I stood there for about 10 minutes and was told twice "I'll be right with you". I finally asked another employee and was told that I could be seated and my order would be taken. I sat for another 10 minutes without any contact from an employee so I left. It did not seem that busy so I could not figure out what the problem was. I could not recommend this restaurant. "You don't get a second chance to make a good first impression."

We found the GC through yelp as a red eye flight from CA put us in too early to see the USS Constitution nearby. Arrived at 8am on a Tuesday morning, light crowd in the cafe, we seated ourselves in the window table and were promptly greeting by a great, engaging waitress. Eggs were cooked perfectly (poached and over easy) and complimented with good bacon and sausage links. Absolutely no rush, and we were able to sit leisurely until the national park opened. Great stop off the freedom trail to start with breakfast

I went here for breakfast a few weeks ago with a friend. After some circling for parking (a hazard for any restaurant in Charlestown), we went in and got seated righ away. By the time we left, the line was out the door, so we managed to just beat the rush. I had the Annie Goat omlette with spinach, tomatoes and goat cheese, and I had mine made with egg whites. They had me at goat cheese, I would eat that stuff on shoe leather. It was a nice sized omlette and the ingredients were really fresh. It came with home fries that were nice big whole pieces of baby potatoes with skin on, and they were nice and crispy like I like them. I got wheat toast, and they serve it with their honey butter, it was a nice little surprise. My friend got the Townie French Toast, and WOW. They put Bailey's in the batter and it's just different enough to be nice and unique. It was super yummy. Service was friendly and efficient, and the coffee was good. The manager told us it was their first anniversary that morning, and I'm happy they've survived their first year that's so tough for many places. By the look of how crowded it was, I think they can look forward to many more!

I had a really good first experience here. I just moved in across the street, and wanted to take a break from unpacking and grab some lunch. The owners (a very nice couple) greeted me right away and offered me lots of suggestions while I looked over the menu. I was bummed to see a lack of vegetarian/vegan options. They informed me that they only serve breakfast on the weekends, which is one of the toughest meals for vegans (eggs, cheese and meat all over the place). But when they could see those options weren't working for me, they offered me a veggie burger and fries. I really appreciated this and it was exactly what I was craving. And it was delicious! The ambiance was very nice - quaint, local cafe. I have a feeling I'll be a regular here - especially when friends and families are in town and we want to grab some breakfast. I would love a tofu scramble on the menu, but I'm quickly learning that's not the norm in Boston. :)

Nice, hard working and friendly staff but the quality of the food here is pretty inconsistent and the prices can be laughably high for what you get. As far as the stuff I was impressed with: The muffins are great and appear to be freshly baked on site. The sausages used on the side of the egg plates are links rather than patties which is always a plus. On the other end of the spectrum, I had a bagel with cream cheese and tomato and the tomato was translucent and sort of brownish in color and the cream cheese was runny. The bagel actually tasted bad, which is sort of a feat in itself (I've had bland bagels before but never one that actually tasted bad). The potatoes that are served with the eggs are very uninspired - pretty much just cut up potatoes that have been thrown on the grill. The prices can border on craziness. I think the basic 2 eggs, sausage/bacon, potatoes dish is about $7, which is fine. Then they have a breakfast burrito for $12. The breakfast burrito at Cafe Ole is less than that and they make their tortillas/guac/salsa fresh - something I'm pretty sure doesn't happen at the grasshopper. All in all, an ok place that could be better, but with the very few options available in Charlestown, an acceptable place to have breakfast from time to time.

We tried this place for take out breakfast and coffee after it opened and hadn't been back because it was very expensive. Well today we were craving breakfast and since there is no other breakfast place in Charlestown decided to give it another try, and would eat-in this time. It was horrible! The food was mediocre but it is the service that will never bring us back (I promise this time). Our waitress was actually kind of mean- very unfriendly. Then towards the end of my meal she asked me if I wanted a glass of water- which I was shocked at- it was the most waitress-like thing she had done. I said sure, then 10 minutes later she comes over with water and dumps it into my juice, which was still about 1/4 full with my juice.

Great food, great service. There was no wait when I went and the staff was super nice. We were in no rush and the food came out really fast. They have a pretty normal brunch menu, nothing too extravagant, but yummy!

Boston seems to be the place unfussy tasty food. Every place I've tried has been good but not that interesting. My complaint about uninteresting food is that when I go out to eat I want to be trying stuff that I wouldn't think about attempting at home. The same goes for Grasshopper cafe. Granted, there isn't much going on terms of brunch in Charlestown so this cafe is where it's at. They offer a brunch with the typical eggs, potatoes, pancakes, toast, etc. The potatoes were bland (a common issue with brunch potatoes) but everything else was good even if it was simple enough for a home cook to whip up themselves. The portions were huge - enough to split among two people for sure. Prices were pretty good given the huge amounts of food. The decor is pretty basic breakfast cafe - no modern design elements or anything like that.

There's not many brunch places in charlestown, so I was really excited when this place opened up about a year ago. The prices are reasonable, the atmosphere is extremely casual & comfortable, and the servers are also very friendly. Their coffee & the speciality flavors is really quite excellent. My favorites for brunch are the veggie omelet and the deluxe sandwich ( egg, cheese, bacon, tomatoes, red onion, tomato and guacamole on a bagel). Their home fries are ok-- don't hold a candle to my old college cafeteria's-- but they'll cure a hangover just the same. Be sure to try their English muffin and honey butter.... Yummy. This might actually be their signature item for me. This place can get pretty busy on the weekend but I've never waited longer than like 15 minutes.

Go here every Saturday! The owners and staff are incredibly friendly. When possible, I like to sit at the counter-the girl is familiar with my boyfriend and I, she remembers our regular orders. The snickerdoodle coffee is the best! It can get busy on the weekends,( keeping in mind that it is kind of a small restaurant) I would strongly recommend going before 10am or after 11:15ish if your not do not want to wait more than 15 minutes for a table..

I had an awesome first experience here. I've been living across the street for a while but the place has been mobbed every time I decide to try it. My boyfriend and I finally woke up early enough and arrived around 9:30 on a Sunday morning, just missing the huge crowd. Our waitress was super busy, but still very friendly and efficient. I ordered the French Toast which was amazing--didn't even need syrup as the Bailey's whipped cream was perfect. I also got a side of corned beef hash that was awesome--it looked and tasted completely homemade. My boyfriend loved his breakfast as well; he got the Old Ironside. I'm not sure if they were the owners, but there was a couple walking around and seating people who seemed happy and welcoming. The entire staff was cheerful and it gave the restaurant a great vibe. It is a little bit on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for. If you're tired of Warren Tavern brunch and don't want to wait in line at Zumie's, give this place a try!

This place has horrible service. I had to wait over 20 minutes for two breakfast sandwiches as take out. When I finally got them they had the order completely wrong. I would never recommend this place to anyone. Don't waste your time, go to a better breakfast place.

Based on the reviews I thought this place would be amazing! It was just fine. The service was really great. We went around 9 on a Sunday and didn't wait but it started to get packed as we were there. Our food was standard - nothing special, nothing I couldn't have made myself at home. It was not bad but certainly not the best breakfast I've ever had. Can't say I'd go back based on the food alone but it was a cute little place with good service!

We live in the area and were really happy to see a restaurant opening close by. It took us a while to finally show up but when we did we were really pleased. The staff is warm and engaging and they took the time to get to know us and even remembered us the next time we came in. We've only been for breakfast so far but the pancakes, waffles and omelettes were excellent and the coffee was great. I would recommend giving it a try and definitely think about the cinnamon iced coffee.

The first time I went to grasshopper, the food was bland and the service was slow at best. Because it's so conveniently located in Charlestown, I really really wanted to love it. So I gave it a second try... The second time I went to grasshopper, the food was still bland and the service was worse than slow. I'm not talking slow like a leisurely paced brunch should be, slow as in at multiple times throughout the experience our waitress just plain forgot about us. (The place isn't that big - this shouldn't be possible.) Save your time and your money and cook up some breakfast at home. It's bound to be more flavorful.

WOW, I am reading these reviews and one of two things happened: 1.) I got really lucky, or 2.) Most of the people that reviewed this place came here in the first couple of weeks expecting a new cafe to be the end-all/be-all restaurant. Come on people, this place isn't expensive considering the times, and it definitely serves good food...if you want perfection, expect to drop $25+... Some people are so clueless. Anyway, here is my take. (4.5 stars with a little room to improve-since there is always room for improvement). I went in today (Thursday 5/19) around lunch time. Service was quick, although the place was filling up. Jill was my server and was on point from the start. I believe the other nice lady brought me a water. I am all for servers helping each other out. Jill was attentive, but not pushy and she offered me the breakfast menu when I said I wasn't sure what I wanted. I am a late riser, and I love breakfast at lunch time. During the week it's that more of a treat!!! I had a cheese omelette w/sausage thrown in and it was great!!! Easily up there with some of the best I have had. Potatoes where perfect, on the dark and crispy side, oh and large to boot. That are how home fries should be!!! Toast were served w/o butter, with real butter on the side. My large iced coffee was served w/cream, and sugar was on the table. Everything was to perfection, and the price w/tax was just over $10. I can go down the street and get a breakfast sandwich and a large Iced for almost as much and it isn't going to fill me up for a long time, and it's going to cost almost as much... Just from what I saw, the lunch menu looked interesting and I definitely want to try some of there specials...but breakfast was so good, it may be hard to get me away from what I already know to be near perfection. Honestly, I wouldn't change a thing, well except some of the pretentious customers. By the way, I scanned some of the tables and everyone looked like they had good food and were happy. It's hard to believe I got lucky...but for some of the nay-sayer's, I suggest trying them again and preferably not when they are getting slammed by the Sat/Sun brunch crowd.

I've been to Grasshopper Cafe twice since it opened and I love it. My first visit was for breakfast. I had an omelette and was very pleased with the price and portion size. The place was both warm and welcoming. The service was excellent and both the waitress and owner checked in with us to see how everything was. The Coffee is THE BEST. My return visit for lunch I had a delicious Caesar Salad and my sister had the Angus Burger which she gives 2 thumbs up. The fries and onion rings were divine. We'll be back. Happy to have such a great neighborhood restaurant right around the corner.

This really pains me to review this place and give it such poor scores after hearing about it on UrbanDaddy and being wicked excited to try it. Brunch is a very special meal in New England on Sunday and if done right, will warm your heart and cure your hangover. I brought my buddy from out of town to try this place and woke up really early to garentee no wait. The place itself is cute, not so many tables, friendly staff and a variety on the menu. The prices strangely are kinda steep for brunch but I figured the food would be pretty damn good. I ordered the special breakfast that had everything (toast, sausage, eggs, bacon, pancakes). Now the good news first and redeeming factor is that this place is legit Irish and all the meats (sausage and hash) are pretty tasty and homeade. The problem I had was the egss which tasted like they were out of a holiday in buffet table, the pancakes that werent light and fluffy but more rubery and cakey, plus only had like 3 chochlate chips which upset me. It was pretty simple things to screw up and put a but of a damper in my day. I was really hoping to be this place's biggest fan but they really dissapointed and im not sure if i'd come back. Perhaps theyre still new and making mistakes but I deff tried the wrong stuff on the menu. Save your money and go to IHOP

Grasshopper cafe opened up today, and they are really the only great spot in Charlestown for breakfast and lunch. (I don't count Friendly's) Grasshopper Cafe is a family owned business staffed with people who really care about providing a great dining experience! As for the food, the Pancakes are phenomenal, and they're served with a great honey-butter. Great selection of coffee, iced and hot.... and with Snickerdoodle flavor! Go check it out - reasonable prices, great coffee and breakfast food, and even better people working there!

Patience, little grasshopper, patience. Parking? We found some, don't move any shoeboxes, cones, chairs or recycling bins though. Your shit might end up on cement blocks while you are filling yourself with breakfast... Kidding! (not really, don't take their spots...) The lovely thing about the 02129 is that you can find often parking on weekends that is not permit only My friend and I came here for Saturday brunch. We walked in, and let a TON of cold air in with us. Everybody began to stare. Oh, awesome... Heeeeyyyy, we're here! And we are HUNGRY. It took a little while for us to be seated. We sat down at a table (for two) in the middle of the room, directly under an air register, we ended up moving the table so that my friend didn't have cool air blowing down on her head while we ate. The service was pretty slow, (my friend walked up to the "to go" (?) counter to get our waters cause we were parched and couldn't wait any longer. She ordered a coffee, I got a cappuccino cause I needed something a bit stronger... $1.99 for a cappuccino? Hello, what?! I like that about you, Grasshopper... Our food took a while to get to us. My friend's omelet came with the yolks in, when she asked for whites only. So we waited a bit longer. There was very little real sugar for coffee on the table, we were the only table without maple syrup, but it seemed like it would confuse the issue to ask for something else from our already busy waitress. The food was good (I got eggs, homefries, bacon, sausage, and a pancake) the potatoes? I could do without. Neither my friend or I ate them. They were too tough, and lacking in flavor. The lady who was our waitress was very apologetic about things being slow, and very kind when she was waiting on us. I think they just need a bit of time to work LOTS of kinks out of this place. It has the beginnings of something good... Maybe the dude who seats people could bring water and coffee to the tables so people don't feel like they are waiting so long? Maybe better/more experienced waitstaff?

I've watched the construction progess at Grasshopper Cafe for months and was excited to walk by Saturday and see it was open. Maybe it was the snowstorm today, maybe they were not quite in sync yet after opening 5 days ago but unfortunately my experience was very different than the others here. The service was very spotty and casual, we had to really work to grab someone to help us or get up and ask for almost everything we needed (cream, jelly, more coffee) the omelette's were lukewarm and very chincy on the ingredients. My hash (about a tablespoon full) and cheese omelet for $6.99 with 2 add on's at almost $1.00 each for about 5 slices of jalapeno peppers and a tiny amount of salsa brought the price way beyond what it was worth. The probably delicious honey butter was put onto the hot platter and melted before it came to the table while the omelette's cooled and drenched the otherwise good home fries with what was a pretty odd taste on potatoes. The order of pancakes our 3rd had were not cooked through and 2 orders of toast as well as the english muffins were at best lightly heated in a toaster, not toasted by any means. I remain excited at the prospect of having a good breakfast place in C-town but this was not it this morning. I will definitely give it another chance (or 2) in the hopes today was an anomaly.

Been here twice for brunch and the food was excellent, service was quick and friendly and it was a great experience overall. Didn't have to wait for a table (went after noon time on Saturday and Sunday). Their last seating is 1:45pm though, I believe. Definitely going back!

Grasshopper Cafe has a wide selection of iced/hot coffee, tea, flavored coffees and lattes. Cream, milk, and sugar is available on the front counter and sugar is on all of the table. They even have snickerdoodle flavored coffee, which kind of tastes like a snickerdoodle cookie I have been here three times already because my boyfriend loves breakfast and its in his neighborhood. The first time I ordered the veggie omelet without peppers and of course, it came with peppers. The middle of my omelet was loaded with too much salt and my home fries were a little overdone but then again, I did come in when it was almost time for closing. The second time I had a giant stack blueberry pancakes. The blueberries were served on top of the pancakes and seemed like the type from a can with syrup. I was hoping for fresh ones to be cooked into the pancakes. Otherwise, the pancakes tasted just the way they should. The third time I got the veggie omelet again and it was much better considering that I came in earlier. Also, the honey butter that they make and serve is delicious and worth spreading all over your breakfast! Overall, I would say that the food is a little better than average and worth the trip if you're in Charlestown and in the mood for some breakfast because I believe it's the only place in town that serves breakfast. Plus, the staff is really friendly!

Living around the corner from this place, my heart leaped at the chance of a neighborhood restaurant. Charlestown's lack of restaurants or neighborhood bars (aside from the old guard at Warren Tavern, Ironsides, etc) is painful, considering places like Kendall and Inman Square have a burgeoning culinary scene happening a stones throw away. Grasshopper Cafe is not the start of something special. Upon entering, we had a brief wait where we stood awkwardly amongst diners, but were sat quickly. Everything was very clean, and seeing them even wipe the chair cushions showed they want to give a good vibe. However they may be going down a bad road, as everything seemed a bit sterile; the earth tones, the lack of decor, generic restaurant supply tables, recessed lighting- it was almost like dining in a hospital cafeteria. To their benefit, they have combined the coffeeshop bar with a dining area, and having the option to sit down or just grab something to go is a great idea that will satisfy anyone's morning needs. I ordered the standard breakfast plate of toast, two eggs, home fries, pancakes and sausage, plus coffee. It took a little longer, but it was busy and they're new so it was no problem. Coffee was a good medium roast that got the job done. Toast was no longer warm when it hit the table, which was strange considering we were so close to the kitchen I could almost feel the heat. Eggs were cooked to a perfect over-medium, however were over-salted to point they were inedible.I wish they'd used a quarter of that salt to season the home fries, which were devoid of any flavor whatsoever. Bacon was good, firm but not overcooked. The sausage was tasty, and a bit bigger than the average breakfast sausage, which I would have appreciated had it not been undercooked and soft in the middle. It is still going through growing pains, but I don't believe this place knows exactly what it wants to be yet. Or maybe, it's simply not what I wanted it to be. It could be a great place if they put some thought and creativity into their dishes and made the atmosphere a little more comfortable. Three metal sunflowers, too small for the wall they're on, and curtainless windows looking out to Bunker Hill Ave does not decor make. Their shortcomings make dining there like any other bad diner experience, and there is great potential for it to thrive in a location where everyone wants a great restaurant.

**Update: They've really gotten things in order since first opening. Yummy food, nice people. Nothing spectacular, but a welcome addition to the Charlestown scene. The food is good, and the prices are pretty normal, though I hear what people are saying about it being something you could cook yourself at home for cheaper. I had coffee (great) and an omelette (great), and my dining buddy had oatmeal that she said was the best she's ever had (there you go!) We waited too long and two parties who arrived after us were seated before us. The owners (especially the gentleman) don't seem to understand how to serve people, and the waitresses are CLUELESS. So yeah, the service was awful, but I want to give them the benefit of the doubt, because it's new and I think their story is adorable. I will definitely keep trying it, but they really gotta figure it out quick or people are going to give up. Food really is good, though! Not spectacular, but very very solid.

Family friendly! In Charlestown a restaurant has to be kid friendly to make it. The staff go out of their way to make the place kid friendly...no just the regular crayons and placemat kid friendly. Food is good. Not my favorite fare, but fills the spot. Good place for coffee. Staff is warm, tells funny stories and makes Grashopper what it is. They always remember my husband and daughter (who go more often then I do). The chairs outside make it a fun place for the weekend. Go and have fun. But if you aren't neighborhood or family friendly and want somewhere quiet and snooty, this isn't your place. Personally, our family loves it!

Great takeout breakfast place! I live around the corner and have been waiting for a good breakfast/lunch place since Rosies and Laurieanns closed years ago! The ham egg and cheese on a bagel is delicious! The ham is really thick sliced and the whole thing is very fresh, puts Dunkies sandwich to shame! The atmosphere and service are wonderful I would give them 5 stars, because every time I go in there I have a great experience, except for the coffee. The iced coffee is watery....needs to be stronger, wayy stronger! Though I don't think their plain coffee is as popular as their flavored varieties, the plain needs some attention too :) I will be frequenting the Grasshopper Cafe, no doubt.

The Grasshopper Cafe has great sandwiches and the most local feel. This is Boston at its best. I had the Grasshopper Sandwich: grilled chicken with the slightest lemon overtone drenched in balsamic onions, grilled red peppers, cheese, and topped with a slice of fried eggplant. I had string onions on the side (not your typical onion rings) but you can have a side salad if you are more health conscious. Good food and friendly faces are enough to make this a local favorite. Townies run and patron this modern, colorful, gem. The atmosphere is casual, like your mom's newly redone kitchen with a big flat screen TV and metal flower wall ornaments. Simply put, this is easily a best of Charlestown. If you don't like this place, keep it to yourself because we, townies, do.

when i moved to charlestown i was kinda bummed when i found out there was a lack of brunch spots to choose from on a hungover sunday morning. however, after my first time eating here, i have come to the conclusion that this place is the tits and more than one spot is not needed. the menu is great and there are always some amazing specials up on the board such as heath bar pancakes....oh lawd they make some of the best home fries - perfectly crispy on the outside with dat dere nom nom in the middle nomsayin? i typically go for the breakfast burrito which really rubs me the right way. the lobster eggs benedict is what dreams are made of. pretty extravagant stuff right? oh wait, you want a blueberry coffee cake? brb let me just grab you one and turn it into the best french toast of your life real quick. go early cuzza that wait time

I went here twice in one week for brunch back it October, and it was fabulous both times. The menu isn't extensive, but they have large servings for not-so-large prices, and some clever Charlestown-theme names for the menu items. The pumpkin iced coffee was delicious. The second time I was there, the manager came over and chatted with my friend and I for a bit. He told us the reasoning behind the name and his motivation for opening the cafe. Will definitely be back again!

This is my go-to brunch spot every Sunday, usually with at least 6 other people in tow. I live in Charlestown so parking is not an issue, and if you call ahead with a large party, they will put your name on the list. Make sure to arrive earlier than the wait time they give you, because sometimes tables will open up more quickly than they anticipate. Its always really busy in there, but we have never had to wait longer than 40 minutes for a table of 8 people during primetime (11:30 am) on a Sunday. Everything I've ordered from here has always been outstanding. Their pancakes are sweet and super-fluffy - definitely recommend them. Plus they serve all of their pancakes/french toast/toast with homemade honey butter...yum! They have some pretty delicious and unique specials on the weekends too. Really good iced coffee flavor selection (Irish coffee, snickerdoodle, hazelnut, to name a few) and the service is decent - it tends to be slower when its busier, but then again what restaurant isn't? Every time my friends and I go to Grasshopper, we're always well-taken care of. Definitely give it a try!

Love this place. Owned by locals. They have dessert flavored coffees, wonderful omelettes, pancakes...breakfast burger (my fiance is a fan) and always something good for the specials. The coffee is great too. A really great neighborhood place...we've taken out of town friends there as well and they were really happy with our choice!

open for business and fabulous! I had the breakfast sandwich with eggs, potatoes, bacon and cheese. Wow. One of the best I've had. The homefries were incredible, and the service friendly and fast. OK, went again today. (Sunday). Steak & Eggs. the best steak I have ever had!

We arrived right after a rush and had to wait for a little while, but this place was WELL worth the wait. From the cute decor and calming environment to the excellent coffee, great looking menu, delicious food, and friendly staff, we were very satisfied. The owners were working very hard along with their staff but still made time to stop by the table to chat. My dad also says the corned beef hash is the best he's ever had. I can't wait to come back!

Being new in town I figured I would try out Grasshopper Cafe as it is one of the only breakfast places I have heard about. So incredibly over priced and food quality is only average. My order was screwed up as well. The early bird special seemed like a decent deal but I was too late to get that deal. I would consider going back to try the special but the regular menu is just not what you would expect out of a breakfast menu at a middle to lower end establishment.

I'm really disappointed that I can only give the Grasshopper Cafe two stars. Charlestown really has a serious dearth of quality restaurants, so I was especially excited when I learned about Grasshopper's opening. I suppose my hopes were a little too high when Katie B. and I decided to venture over the hill early last Saturday. We arrived and there was a short wait, but nothing upsets people more than seeing empty tables that just need to be set when their tummies are grumbling. We were patient knowing that they had recently opened and probably needed to be cut a little slack (others were not quite as forgiving and one couple left in a bit of a huff). My thing with dining out for breakfast (or really any meal really) is that I want something that I can't easily make myself. Unfortunately, I really struggled to find something that I couldn't have made cheaper and, as it turns out, better at home. They had the requisite breakfast foods but nothing particularly special (though I did like the Charlestown inspired names like Townie Toast). I ended up with a Belgian waffle (I don't own a waffle iron) with honey butter and bananas which was fine, but not life-changing. Their syrup is only 70% maple (my fear of fake syrup is the main reason why I usually go for savory breakfasts). But you know, I would pay more for the pure stuff, man. I also ordered a side of home-fries, which were totally uninspired and dry (maybe I'll go for the loaded version if there's a next time). Katie B. had 2 eggs (over-easy) with bacon and home-fries. Except they forgot the bacon on the first try. Eggs looked fine, but I sampled the bacon when it arrived and it wasn't anything special (a bit on the salty side). In fact I think we even left some on the plate - when does that EVER happen with bacon??? My favorite part was the honey butter which is something I have always loved. The service was also very pleasant, albeit a bit disorganized. And everything was spotless (as would be expected in a brand-new restaurant). Bottom-line: I can forgive lapses in service (especially in a new restaurant) as long as the food is excellent, but I do not feel this is the case at Grasshopper. It would probably be a nice place to have a cup of coffee and a muffin on-the-go, but I don't think it's enough to encourage me to make another trek to the other side of the Monument anytime soon.

Went there today for breakfast and were totally impressed with the food. We were greeted by a friendly couple (I think they were the owners) who took the time to really say hello and be personal even though the place was absolutely full. The space is spotless and comfortable; a neighborhood type brunch/lunch place that Charlestown has needed for a while. They have flavored coffees including Irish Creme and Snickerdoodle...not to mention amazing specials (Breakfast BURGER? CUBAN benedict?) My boyfriend (dudeitsshoe) got the breakfast burger which was fantastic, and I got an egg white omelette which as far as egg white omelettes go, was very good. All of the ingredients were fresh (I had lots of vegetables in my food) and dudeitsshoe noted that he could tell that the bacon for his burger wasn't premade since it was so moist and flavorful. We also got a side of loaded homefries (worthy of a gymtrip on their own) which came with cheese and salsa and guac and were absolutely amazing. The food took practically no time to come out even though the place was full and they were clearly down one waitress, no one seemed to be forgotten. We're making this a weekly visit, we think! **review written by dudeitsshoe's girlfriend***

Four stars for service, two stars for food. This place is packed on the weekends as it is the only breakfast place in this area of Charlestown. The owners are very nice and you can see they are working hard. Service was great and when I didn't enjoy my breakfast they offered to make it for me differently, which is awesome. Unfortunately the food was just so-so. The french toast, wanting to be different w/ the Baileys, is supersweet and not cooked on both sides. The egg sandwich is an egg, overcooked and and just blah, coffee was just so-so, not worth the +$2 they charge. Will I go back??? I haven't decided.

Joanne was a great waitress. Felt at home at the 'hopper, like it was mom serving us breakfast, taking care of our every need. Eggs Benny were a fan favorite.

I'm pretty surprised to read all of these negative reviews. I've been in at least six or seven times since they opened and my only complaint is sometimes slower-than-should-be service. No big deal, though! I'm always promptly seated, the food is always great (I love the Irish breakfast), and everyone is always very friendly. It's great to have a place like this right in my neighborhood.

Was so excited when this place opened! Finally a good breakfast place in Charlestown (Other than Friendly's?) and only a 5 minute walk! I've been twice already and have not been disappointed. Great coffee, amazing Crab Cake Benedict and the Old Ironsides special with everything if you are extra hungry! I need to try the omelets next. The one with spinach and goat cheese looks delicious.

After months of finally waiting to try Grasshopper Cafe, we finally got to try it today. We went in around 2pm, and were hoping to order lunch but were informed by our waitress that they do not serve lunch on the weekends. We were more than happy to order off of the breakfast menu but we found it strange that they do not offer lunch on the weekends. I ordered the Townie Toast which was delicous. The baileys whipped cream really made it tasty and I will definitely order again. My bf got the Western Omlette, he let me try a bite and it was very good too. I usually never order omlettes but may order one next time. The potatoes on the side were average but still good. The staff were very nice and the place was clean and I will definitely be going back. My only complaint would be the lunch thing, I really hope they change their mind and offer lunch on the weekends.

WOW!! Amazing food, great atmosphere, and friendly people! Corned beef was hand cut and juicy. French fries are also home made and AMAZING! Please go here and prove me right!

Delicious unpretentious food at reasonable (for Charlestown) prices. Had coffee and orange juice to drink. For my meal I ordered The Monument which consists of 3 beyond large buttermilk pancakes (I added chocolate chips). The pancakes come with an unbelievably delicious honey butter and plenty of maple syrup. Sat at the counter and the service was incredibly attentive and everyone seemed very nice. I even had a brief conversation with one of the cooks about the size of pancakes. Definitely will be a place I visit often!

This review is based on one experience, but it was bad enough that I thought I should write about it in hopes that this place makes some improvements. I put an order in for take out - one order of pancakes and an egg and cheese sandwich. I asked for tomato on the sandwich and they put some sort of canned roasted tomato on it that was really gross and tasted awful. The sandwich was soggy and barely edible. My wife's pancakes were supposed to come with what I thought would be a side of strawberries, but instead they just poured some sort of canned strawberries on them. They looked nasty and according to her t hey did not taste good. These two items and a cup of coffee added up to $20. I decided to sit at the bar and have a coffee while I waited for my food, and after about ten minutes the waitress at the counter asked me to get up and stand and wait for my food by the door because the bar was for people to eat at, not for take out orders. So for my $20 breakfast I had to stand around awkwardly avoiding people coming in and out and all the while nobody sat at the seat I was asked to get out of. Hilarious. I guess according to one of the reviewers below the townies like it so that counts for something? I don't know how that works but if you judge the places you eat at by the quality of the food served then this is probably not your place.

I have loved Grasshopper Cafe since it opened - great food and coffee, good service, and good atmosphere. I was recently diagnosed with Celiac, and now, I am even more in love with them - I learned that they have gluten free options, including gluten free breads, wraps, meats, etc. Food here is fresh and fabulous!

Great neighborhood spot. Charlestown is a small community, but one that didn't really offer a breakfast/brunch spot until now. This is easy for anyone in the 02129 to walk in, grab a table and great meal. If you've got the room for it, get the stuffed french toast, rich and amazing. Also, make sure to check out their daily specials, not just one or two, but a host of new daily meals.

We went for brunch on a cool, overcast Saturday. We had a short wait for a table, but once seated we had a vigilant waitress topping off our coffee. We ordered the Spanish Omelet, Annie Goat Omelet and the Banana and Nutella Crepes. So yummy and fresh ingredients! The atmosphere is welcoming and the staff doesn't rush you to finish your meal. You need to try this spot for yummy food and innovative combinations of ingredients.

A new welcome addition to Charlestown. Coffee and breakfast menu hit the spot, and the cinnamon rolls are the size of a plate (seriously). The owners and staff are friendly, and the food hits the spot.

VERY VERY VERY CLEAN!!! If you are looking for the new age of New England Dinners with the traditional breakfast/lunch counter and a extremely sanitary conditions, with exceptional service and FAMILY owned then Grasshopper Cafe is the at the forefront! Growing up in New England I am very accustomed to eating for cheap at any number of grimey, greasey diners where you are so hung over from the night of wildness before you don't even care about the sanitation. Grasshopper cafe is warm, vibrant and overall emaculate!!! The warm inviting friendly family owned restaraunt is eager to please and even with small children was very eager to assist/cater to family needs such as high chair, messy kids, and they even give out lollipops! The menu is very well done mixing tradtional with new age spin and unique Beantown flavor that is extremely affordable and very appealing! My kids talked to the Chefs and watched through the window while their pancakes were made! Overall, Grasshopper Cafe is a gem a diamond in a city of Chaos and unceartainty! One thing be ceartain Grasshopper Cafe will be the next big dinner that all other New England Diners will aim to match and learn to follow in the future!
