Food is okay, not the worst by any means but certainly not the best. I wouldn't suggest their delivery though. We live down the street and it took almost 1.5 hours and the delivery driver was very very rude :(

Merp. I really wish Yelp allowed .5 stars. Fins is 2.5 stars in my book. I came here on a weekday evening, and be restaurant was nearly empty. Wait staff welcomed us and sat us right away. It was freezing, so I ordered the Miso and Cha Siu Ramen to warm me up. The ramen was brought up within minutes. I was pleasantly surprised by the fast service but my excitement was short lived. The noodles hidden underneath a bed of cha siu and bamboo were in a blob that had been sitting for a while and dumped into a bowl of soup without any effort to mix them together for a coherent dish. There was a generous portion of cha siu. However they were fatty and overly smoked. Overall I was not impressed by this dish at all. My friend who came with me ordered the Crispy Duck Breast. We both thought it was going to be similar to Peking duck by the sound of the name. It turned out to be fried duck breast. It came with a side of rice, salad, and miso soup. I had a piece of the duck breast. It was rather bland and tasteless. I couldn't even tell it was duck. My friend thought the entire dish lacked flavor. The service was the only saving grace of our dining experience. Our waitress was smiling at us the entire evening. She came over to check in on us a few times and not at all in an annoying way. She was very attentive and personable, making sure that we were comfortable. I only wish the quality of the food was as good. It looks like the sushi here are the selling points. So if I have to return one day, I may be willing to try the maki. There are so many great restaurants in Beacon Hill that this one really doesn't stand out.

The sushi is good. Not the best but good. Decided to get the seafood ramen special to go today and it was very tasteless. Very disappointed. Nothing else came with the ramen so I got stuck with bland broth and chewy noodles. If I come back I'll just stick to the sushi or try a bento box. Clean establishment. Quick service. Just very bland ramen.

Today, my family and I ordered a variety of rolls from Fin's Sushi and Grill in Beacon Hill. They specialize in rolls, sushi, and sashimi. The tempura rolls were crunchy. The raw fish was fresh. 1. Spider Roll: deep fried soft shell crab, avocado, lettuce, cucumber, tobiko, spicy mayo, and eel sauce 2. California Roll: crab stick, cucumber, and avocado, rolled in fish roe and sesame seeds 3. Yellowtail-Scallion Roll: yellowtail, green scallion 4. Shrimp Tempura-Peaches Roll: deep fried shrimp tempura, lettuce, cucumber, peaches, tobiko, spicy mayo, and eel sauce 5. Eel-Avocado Roll: grilled eel and avocado, drizzled with eel sauce

While on a business trip in the Beacon Hill area, and staying across the street at the Wyndham, I noticed Fins and its prominent location right on busy Cambridge St. As a business traveler, I do always adhere to my rule of "no national chain dining" for dinner, and I was craving sushi, so Fins seemed like the perfect choice. Being solo, I was a little apprehensive about feeling awkward dining on my own in a somewhat romantic atmosphere, especially since I didn't opt for seating at the sushi bar. It was almost as though the friendly host felt my fear, and sat me at a semi-private booth-back banquette table, with a nice view of the busy street outside, so there was plenty of people-watching to amuse me while I ate. My waitress was really friendly and brought my wine over super-quickly while I perused the menu. Wanting to stray from my usual sahimi platter and sample the specialty rolls that Fins had to offer, the Mexican Roll and the Fire Maki jumped out at me. Honestly, I was expecting higher prices, especially given the elevated costs in the Beacon Hill area in general. Much to my amusement, the Mexican Roll was only $9.50 and the Fire Maki was about $12. As you can see from the photo I took, both rolls were substantial in size, and I definitely didn't leave hungry. The Mexican Roll was comprised of spicy tuna, avocado, Tabasco sauce, scallion, and masago. It was exactly what I wanted it to be: spicy, flavorful, fresh, and not overwhelmingly rice-y or saucy. The Fire Maki roll was a bit of a gamble for me, as it containes shrimp tempure, spicy tuna, eel sauce, and spicy mayo. I say "gamble" because normally I'm turned off by tempura- and mayo-containing rolls, but they were really well-executed elements in the Fire Maki, and the tuna and eel flavors weren't drowned by the tempura or doused in too much mayo. I noticed also that Fins accommodated nicely a larger group of 10 not too far from me, so it seems like a good choice for a solo diner, a date night, or a small group of friends.

It's across the street and the lunch specials are pretty good deals with a lot of food. Usually the quality of the food is good. And the service is usually pretty good as well. Very consistent. For $9, you get a lot of food for lunch. Come here for lunch.

Note: 5 stars isn't because Fin's serves the absolute number one best sushi in the whole wide world. It's because they serve the most consistently good for quite reasonable prices that I've yet found. For example, Fin's doesn't have the most interesting fusion sushi dishes on the menu Nor the most interesting drinks. However, the waitstaff are very nice and get to know the "regulars" like us. The tuna and salmon are very fresh and flavorful. The delivery is prompt and easy over GrubHub. The cooked dishes and lunch boxes are also great. So I would recommend this place to anyone else out there who wants good sushi in the $$ price range, rather than $$$ to $$$$.

Small place, I know some people who know bad sushi from good. And while I'm not completely ignorant to it, I'm not the best one at knowing good sushi from great sushi. Having said that, this place was nice and I liked it for the most part. The server was nice, and tended to my table timely and was friendly , and checked on me fairly often. They have something called "sushi pizza", please do not have this one haha. I liked the place and I would go back for sure. It was cozy and nice. To drink and eat I had the cold sake, tempura shrimp, the infamous sushi pizza. If you care for freshness, this place is ok. I didn't get the taste of old food which is good. The one thing I really didn't like was how they stashed all the sushi in one plate. It looked all cluttered and graceless.

This has been my favorite place I've had all week in Boston. Great value and the sushi is... AWESOME. Fresh and Delish. I had the flamingo roll and it was a great combo of sweet and seafood. The miso soup was on point. Service was great as well! My friends has the spice tuna roll, Mexican roll and red snapper. Everyone was pleased with their meals and we stayed longer to have a sake bomb. Good times in boston.

Pros: 1. Prices are great 2. Food is good 3. Staff is very pleasant Con: The sushi was not prepared very well (seemed a bit lazy). The maki rolls were very loosely rolled and thus would fall apart from just a slight dip in the soy. The shrimp sushi was very thin and a bit rubbery. But the taste was still very good for both.

Full disclosure, I only had their lunch special here today. Given their location and quantity of food, I would say it's a pretty solid value. Offered from 1130am-4pm, the lunch menu is definitely worth a look as you get a full bento box of an entree (chicken teriyaki over white rice for me) 2 pieces of sushi, lettuce and a miso soup for under $10. The teriyaki comes off as a little dry but the sweet sauce over top helps balance it out a bit. The miso soup, salad, and sushi are all solid but definitely not noteworthy. If you're looking for an affordable meal at lunch time, check it out. It's pretty consistently average and they don't deliver unless it's over $10 so choose wisely.

This is mediocre sushi. There's really not much more to say. The tuna tataki was way off. Caterpillar Maki Eel roll was bad. I'm not sure how they have a 4 star average. Pass on Fins

The edamame is addictive, miso soup was delicious and of course the sushi was great. The customer service is good and l'll definitely be returning. Its an overall wonderful dining experience.

A truly mediocre spot charging more than the fish is worth. Pretty presentation, polite service, convenient location. Very bland sushi and even blander rolls. The toro and hamachi was certainly frozen and the spider roll lacked any unique flavor profile at all. Certainly not worth a return trip.

The service was A-okay. However, if you've seen my other reviews, you'll notice two things, when it comes to sushi: 1) I am a simple person, with relatively simple tastes. 2) I have a low threshold for what I consider pretty darn good. The personal interactions were fine. The place and the food? Well. I came in late in the afternoon and sat at the sushi bar. The place smelled strongly of fish and something else, maybe ammonia? Whatever it was, it wasn't pleasant. I ordered a grilled salmon maki and a spicy yellowtail maki. They both came out quickly. The yellowtail was pretty bland. The crunchy tempura bits were soggy. The salmon maki was awful. The "grilled" salmon maki was cold and looked like flaked salmon from the can. And it looked and tasted not only like it had come from a can, but that can had been open way too long before I got around to eating from it. No part of this maki had ever seen a grill or grill-like object. Presentation-wise, there were little tubes of cream cheese wrapped in cellophane in the ice box where you usually see the fish, along with mashed avocado in cellophane. It was pretty crass. Sushi tends to be pricey, and while looking fresh doesn't mean it is fresh, this place just didn't even bother. The whole experience was about as fresh as lutefiske and just as appetizing.

I just finished eating here on my first night in Boston and I hardly never write bad reviews but I just need to say something about the front desk/Host table. I walked in on a Tuesday night at 8 pm-- the place was very much empty and had absolutely no greeting when I walked in. When I smiled and asked if they did take out, the host just looked at the menu. I skimmed through and told him actually i'd like to eat alone at the table, and his asshole-y attitude finally led me to a table. Did i mention I HARDLY write bad reviews? The asian female server was a sweetheart as a great one as well-- considering I ordered most than what people order with 2-3 other people-- and the food was mediocre. I KNOW. I'm in Boston and I'm from LA and have traveled the world for the past 10 years. I wasn't expecting 5 star food but i was atleast expecting 2.5 greeting service as 100% Japanese restaurants have around the world. JEEEZUS?! Was I asking too much here? I'm staying across the street at the Wyndham for 5 nights and usually when I travel for work, I pick the most convenient place with decent food to bring me back each evening. I thought it was this place. I could have told many future people coming to Boston staying at this hotel to visit this restaurant. As success comes, it is always with a word of mouth. But no. You lost out on many many future customers to come. All because your host does not have proper training to be..well, a host with a smile.

My second time coming here was last night and I was again extremely happy with the service and the food. They have a small but nice beer selection as well as good wines that compliment the food. The real show here is the freshness of the seafood and well prepared sushi. I ordered the "large boat" and was one of the better decisions I've made in my life; I ate way too much but I feel like a better person. The sushi was incredible, every piece of it. I had a Magic Hat #9 and my date the Allagash White. The waitress was really nice and told us to be careful when we left because it was snowy, she was really caring! Come here if you haven't!!

Go here for lunch specials. Its a great deal!!! My friend and I spent about $8.00 each on our own bento box style lunches. Solid Japanese food, and there even have some Japanese curry dishes, which I love! Great spot for tourists on a budget!

I ordered delivery last night. It took approximately one hour to arrive, which is not entirely unreasonable. The sushi, however, was mushy and did not taste remotely fresh. The gyoza were cold. In the past, Fins' sushi has been about average and reasonably priced, but last night was really bad. I threw out half of the rolls because I was worried that I would get sick.

Don't bother going there. The wait staff seemed irritated to be working. Disappointed with the atmosphere. We ordered 3 entrées and 2 were not what we ordered. Had to wait another 25 minutes for the rest of our food. Our dinner was fine but not tasting the flavors described on the menu. Plastic menus. Nothing special. After we left, we walked past Seoul Sushi and Korean at 156 Cambridge Street. Wow, I really wished we had eaten there instead. Lively place, open walls to the gorgeous evening we were having and their menu looked great.

The food here is pretty good but slightly over priced for what it is, we ordered the seaweed salad which was delicious and two rolls, the cowboy maki and the double match maki. We lived the seaweed salad, it was pretty big so you can have it yourself as an appetizer or split it with someone. The cowboy maki I didn't like so much, it was weird having raw prices of beef. I would have preferred if they torched it a little extra on top of the roll, also they ingredients were just not what I was expecting. I lived the double match maki however. I love the play on salty and sweet with the tempura sweet potato and the baked salmon! I added spicy mayo and unagi sauce to my rolls, it was a great addition. If I come back I'm going to try the snow mountain roll! I wouldn't go for the cowboy roll again. For Boston this sushi is pretty decent. I would come again

Overall, the sushi was good.. Prices are okay. Had a good experience. We got the spicy combo which came with spicy salmon, spicy white tuna, and spicy tuna rolls. The eel avocado was yummmmy!

Okay, as if the food wasn't perfect, I just had this experience -- I work for a major corporation who just recently decided they now needed itemized receipts (damn the man!). I visited Fin's on a business trip a couple weeks ago, and when hearing I needed an itemized receipt, I was like "WELP, THIS IS GONNA SUCK." I called Fin's two weeks later, they got my itemized receipts, they even EMAILED them to me instead of faxing (I can never get that fax machine to work), and they were SO nice about it. There is no reason they needed to do this. They could have laughed at me and told me to eat the cost. But they didn't. They were classy, nice, and worked with me. I'm going to eat here every time I'm in Boston from now on!

Working across the street at MGH you can't go wrong with take out lunch from Fin's. For under $10 you get an amazing fresh meal. I definitely suggest the Sushi Maki Lunch or one of the Lunch Bento Box's. Definitely a go to if I am really hungry because they don't disappoint on the portions. LOVE this place.

Fin's is an amazing deal for the quality you get. The sushi is fresh, and fish pieces are big. I go to Fin's about twice a month because it's such a good deal. I recommend the salmon or tuna combos, the tuna tartare appetizer, and anything on their special maki menu. Wine bottles are affordable and service is great. This is a casual neighborhood gathering with great service and amazing value!

Came here after work on a weekday with co-workers, and we literally finished our meal in 20 or so minutes. The service was fast, prompt (we had multiple waitresses come over and refill our cups), and best of all the food was delicious. Few words were spoken during our meal. I love the atmosphere -- it's a little dark, but you feel like you're worlds away from Beacon Hill and MGH. They have a good balance of specialty rolls and simple go-to rolls. I got the Caterpillar roll (my favorite. I am a deeply religious eel-lover.), which is essentially an eel roll with extra avocado and sesame seeds on top. It was a huge portion for only $8. My coworkers got a roll with spicy tuna and mango, which they LOVED. My only peeve is that I can't seem to access their menu from the main page of their website, and upon weaseling my way to the page from Google, I found that the menu was missing a lot of dishes offered on their actual menu in the restaurant. Still, this is a great option for cheap sushi in an otherwise expensive Beacon Hill.

The sushi here was so fresh and neatly presented. Service was great and prices were mediocre. We were visiting from Houston and I have to say this place had the best mackerel.

I found this place to be a delightful hole-in-the-wall. The sushi was delicious. The prices were affordable. I was easily satisfied with sharing two appetizers and two rolls for myself. I found the miso soup to be average. But I did really enjoy the mango salsa on the fried duck. Definitely worth a second stop!

Just placed an order on GrubHub for Fin's realized after the order went through that I did it for the wrong location. I picked up the phone and call the incorrect place. Guy on the phone was great. Told me not to worry about it, confirmed my name and order and said he would fax the order right over for me to pick up at the new Boylston location. Not to mention its great sushi for a very reasonable price

My new favorite Japanese place in Boston. I'd passed by this place basically everyday but never got around to trying it. There are far too many (mediocre) sushi places in Boston, but sometimes you just want some teriyaki or katsu. This place has some amazing lunch specials. There was a huge selection (everything under 10 bucks!) including teriyaki, katsu, noodles, and sushi. I ended up ordering the chicken katsu curry bento box. Came with a decent serving of crispy chicken katsu topped with a spicy curry sauce, two pieces of California roll (standard), two fried gyoza (YUM), along with rice, salad, and some fruit. While it wasn't a huge serving of food, it definitely hit the spot and there was not one thing that I didn't like. My friend ordered one of the sushi specials and it came with a very generous serving of salmon in the hand roll, along with a california roll, and a tuna roll. Definitely a great deal. I can't comment on the dinners here, but I will DEFINITELY be coming back for the lunch special. Best of all, the lunch special's are offered on Saturday too!

Fins has great sushi. The prices are reasonable for Beacon Hill. The rolls are a little small, so you may want to beware of that when deciding how much to order. All the rolls we've tried have been delicious. The fish always tastes very fresh, even when we go as late as 9 or 9:30. They do a good job with standard favorites (salmon-avo, spicy tuna). The are a few creative rolls too-- my favorite is the Ocean maki. They also have good miso soup (again, small portion). Pass on the spring rolls though-- too greasy and not enough flavor.

Food and service was excellent, I sat at bar which maybe I teased my service speed. Super fresh. I ordered chef's choice and was not disappointed. It was soo good I ordered more, the house dragon maki. This was also excellent. Sushi was prepared perfectly, rice perfectly cooked, the full deal was all great. I am afraid I come back, no way it is this good again.

Wow! This was a great find. They deliver up to 2 miles away, which is clutch! The sushi was so fresh and incredibly creative... Really shocked that this isn't rated higher, I eat sushi all the time and for this price point, it's the best find in Boston.

This place is awesome. My wife and I walked three miles in the middle of winter trying to decide on a place to eat. We found that place on Cambridge Street and decided to get inside. The host, the reception was superb. The food was delicious, my wife had the miso salmon and I, the crispy duck. Food was fresh and tasty. Service fantastic, we went back two months later with friends.

sushi is one of the things that I enjoy eating and I've tried many rolls from different places. First the young slim girl in the reception was so rude and not welcoming. I tried 4 rolls that I can't recall now. Non of them was great nor delicious! Even the Sushi Corner in Galleria Mall has better quality and taste ..

Came here with my girlsss for dinner last night. We were a bit of a hot mess per usual, and right away one of my friends' phone died, they took it and charged it at the front =) Thanks! Anyway, we ordered a bottle of wine, which was pretty cheap and pretty good (im no wine expert but I liked it). Our server was so cute and didn't rush us at all. We ordered, and obviously I had to complicate my order by adding/removing things from my roll.(Crazy Maki). Our rolls were great! and we also got avocado salad and edamame, which were equally delicious! They have a pretty extensive menu, the interior is cozy, and the food was very good! I'm glad they opened one here!!!

Finally, an affordable and freshly delicious venue to add to our lunch arsenal! And sushi, no less. We were so excited when this place took over a formerly dingy and grubby eating establishment with its clean and modern interiors, friendly, efficient and helpful staff, and did I mention fresh and yummy sushi??? For lunch, one can order made-to-order sushi, nabayaki udon [love when I am craving my comfort food in the form of noodles], or a bento box. When we ordered a large amount of made-to-order sushi for a six-person group, they had the sense to stagger the arrival of the dishes to accommodate the limited space on our table, while always communicating what dishes were expected to arrive next. The bento boxes are the best deal, as they are an ample size and come with miso soup, a salad with delicious miso dressing, two sushi rolls, rice, whatever type of meat in the bento box you ordered, and an orange that is so artistically sliced to hold additional healthy fruit. The bento boxes usually consist of teriyaki, chicken katsu, pork katsu, and best of all, chilean sea bass. Definitely better than Ma Soba down the street. And closer to our office!

Amazing food!!! Spicy fried rice with kimchiii issss unbelievable! I would definitely recommend it to people! The only thing is that the interior design is a little too dark for me, I would make it more light! But it will not stop me from going there ! Good job !

I came here last night with a friend to catch up over dinner. We chose Fin's because it's in a very accessible location. The main thing that attracts me about this place is their menu choices. I am highly taste-averse to nori (dried seaweed) which is what most rolls and sushi are wrapped in. This generally means I'm limited to sashimi or warm dishes at a sushi restaurant. Fin's is one of the few places that offers rolls wrapped in rice nori or soybean sheets so it provides more of a variety for me. I ordered a ocean maki which is wrapped in soybean sheet (it did still have a bit of nori in it, but the taste was masked by the wasabi). My only qualm about my experience was that I felt a bit rushed towards the end. I had 4 pieces of maki and half a glass of wine left, and the waitress came to ask if I was all set. I just stared at her blankly because I was confused at what she meant. That's OK, it didn't ruin my experience and I would still go back.

Food good and thats where the good ends horrible customer service and I was being ignored when there was only a couple and one other person on my side. Also I literally only got the waiter service twice to take my order and the check! Instead of her asking me how is everything you know doing her job.. Shes doing it to some customers and no good bye thanks for coming as if I was a burden! Second and first time ordering and will certainly be my last she got my change and shes lucky to even get that! I believe the attitudes was stuck up and i thought about telling the manager but figured would it even make a difference. I was better off getting my sushi from Whole Foods right up the street although there no sake there which by the way was also good. Again never again i can find tasty sushi else where with better service. For those who had better service wish i can say the same! I wish there was an option of zero stars but since i have to one and thats being generous!

I'm typically a restaurant lingerer, so you know something's up if I can't wait to leave after I finish eating. Well, that worked out perfectly for me at Fins. Apparently they couldn't wait for me to leave either! Expect in-and-out style service at this tightly-packed, jarringly loud, and uncomfortably stuffy place. Stuffy as in air quality; I smelled cigarettes on our way out the door after our meal. One star is for the reasonable prices (you can easily have a meal here for under $20). The other star is because I've never gotten sick from sushi before, I was terrified it would happen after eating here, but was pleasantly surprised that I didn't.

I'm not a huge sushi eater so when I do go out for sushi I don't like to spend a lot of money, so Fin's is perfect. You get great sushi for a great price. And the service is really fast so it's a great place to go for a quick meal.

I love trying out new sushi places. This restaurant is not bad, pretty decent food. The staff are friendly and the place is clean. It's pretty popular and Can get busy. They have added specials to the menu besides sushi. My favorite is the spicy salmon, spicy tuna and spicy yellowtail. The spicy Mayo could be a Tad more spicy though. The pork belly buns are awesome! Just enough spice and pork cooked well. They also serve ramen, but yet to try it. The sweet potato maki is off the charts (double match)!!! They also use alot of mango in the sushi as well. :)

  • James W.

Good, fresh sushi - I ordered the Lobster Roll which was spicy, good but had a little too much mayo in the spicy mayo. My second roll was the spicy yellowtail roll which was simple but tasty with lots of fish vs rice - highly recommended. Washed it all down with a bottle of Smuttynose IPA. My wife ordered the Snow Mountain Maki which doesn't mention the "snow" is coconut dust coating the top - different.

Absolutely horrible. We came with a party of 6 that turned into a party of 7, we had to ask FOUR times for a chair and when friend #7 showed up she had to stand there waiting for a chair for a good 5 minutes. When we finally ordered we made it clear that we were all going to be separate. We had to remind her at least twice for the cokes that two of us ordered, the food was pretty mediocre, and the tempura was a TINY portion for $8.25. The food also wasn't timed very well and left all but two of us awkwardly waiting for the rest of the food to arrive so we could dig in. When it was time for the bill, when she handed me the bill and I asked for us to be separate, she scoffed "Do you ALL want separate bills?? This is going to take longer" and then returned in a few minutes and SLAMMED the check holders on the table and said "just so you know, it doesn't include the required 18% tip." I regrettably left the 18% tip that she really didn't deserve. I've never had such a terrible dining experience in my entire life. Thanks for ruining my night, Suniko. (At least that was the name on my receipt)

We came here for dinner with my parents who came to visit from out of town. The food took forever to come out and my father's chicken was overlooked. when my father who paid the bill because he had wanted to treat us, he paid in cash but only had a certain amount on him and told the waitress to keep the change. He was only a dollar short of an appropriate tip. She had the audacity to tell him that he hadn't tipped her enough. I left an extra 2 dollars but in retrospect I should have told her that she was tipped exactly what she was owed. She made me so mad that she embarrassed my father so. What horrendous service. And for what: so she could get an extra 2 dollars? She just lost a potential long term customer and got a terrible review on Yelp. I saw this happened with another yelp reviewer as well. This place should be boycotted. There are better places in Boston to get better sushi and better service.

There are many things I can tolerate but covering up bad food is not one of them! I frequent Fins for dinner as I live down the street and often get delivery. Tonight, I noticed that one of my rolls was weirdly smothered in spicy mayo (sides and all) - not the normal pretty drizzle that lines the top. Upon further inspection I realized the top avocado outside the role was completely brown and black! So either this roll was sitting out for a LONG time or they blatantly just disregarded using rotten food. Absolutely, will never be going here again.

Tried Fin's with a friend because we were looking for a quiet place that would spare her vocal cords (ooohhhhh, vocalists...). I ordered the Vegetarian Maki Combo, and she got the Spicy Combo. Both were fantastic and I thoroughly enjoyed my meal right down to the sake. The service was stellar (although our server was soooo on top of things that it felt a bit like we were being rushed out once we were done eating). Low-sodium soy sauce is the default option at Fin's (yay) and our water was regularly re-filled. Bathroom was clean, people were nice, location is very convenient to the Charles/MGH T-stop. I would definitely recommend Fin's and would eat there again in a heartbeat.

They have one of the best bento box for lunch with the fried Chilean sea bass and the amount of food is pretty feeling,,, love their salmon edamame kimchi fried rice.. Dinner food is ok..

I am a fan of Fins in Back Bay, so I was pleased to find that there is another location so close to my office. I always seem to come back for the same rolls: The Mexican Roll and the Fire Maki Roll. Pair that with a Seaweed Salad starter and I am a happy girl. It is a great place to stop in for lunch because the food always comes out quickly and the staff is receptive when you have that "I guess I better get back" slump going. Prices are very reasonable and they have a ton of items on the menu for those who haven't come to the sushi dark side.

Normally I go to the Fin's location in Kenmore square, but they don't do online delivery, so I figured I'd give this location a try. I'm happy to report that it was just as good. Lunch specials remain a great deal. My dining companion said his chicken teriyaki bento was great, aside from the chicken being a little chewy. (I also really wish they'd offer another dressing option for the salads- I hate that carrot ginger dressing.) My tempura udon was also excellent, as usual. They even thoughtfully cut a little notch in the container for the tempura, so it wouldn't get soggy en route. Delivery took about an hour, but then again we're kind of far. It would probably be less ok if we were super hungry or crunched for time, but we weren't. All in all a highly satisfying delivery order.

This place is deceiving in a good way! My mom and I are always looking for a place to have lunch but the decor was so nice we never pegged it for a good deal lunch place. Oh my goodness were we wrong! We got two items off the menu, each under $9. One was a bento style lunch box and the other was a udon noodle soup. Both were delicious and filling. This is much better than Zen up the street. So definitely come here for lunch! We'll be going more often so perhaps we'll run into you!

I live in Beacon Hill and Fin's has been my go-to sushi place, mostly because of proximity. It's decent sushi, not the best, but definitely satisfies a sushi craving. They also have plenty of options to choose from and rolls unique to Fins. The wait staff here is always very friendly. I would definitely recommend stopping by if you're in the neighborhood in need of a sushi fix.

Nice little place with an intimate neighborhood feel. I ordered miso soup to start which was quite nice. That was followed by a couple of rolls. Found that food was tasty but not outstanding. Service was quite good.

My girlfriend and I live very close to this place. So close in fact that the people who work here continually stand in the doorway to our building and smoke cigarettes on their breaks. We have ordered various rolls(cooked & uncooked), edamame, and miso soup on a few different occasions. Every time my gf and I had their rolls we both ended up with an upset stomach and always had really bad gas after wards. We have both eaten plenty of sushi in our lives and never had this problem before. The upset stomach and gas leads me to believe the fish is below par and they are using some sort of dairy product in their sauces or broth. I am very lactose intolerant. The rolls at Fins were always just OK. Too much sauce, mediocre fish at best, and not enough flavor. The miso soup was always way too salty and the edamame were always overcooked and mushy. The bad food alone was enough to make us never again waste our money on this establishment. The thing that really puts me over the edge and will be addressed with the local civic association is that the employees feel ok with loitering, smoking cigarettes, and littering on private property. Even after they have been asked not to do so on a couple different occasions. You have every right to kill yourself slowly with cancer sticks but don't expect your neighbors to put up with you trespassing and adding to the already disgusting amount of litter on our streets. Three little suggestions for Fins. Improve the quality of your food. Buy a smokers poll for your litter. Show your neighbors a little respect.

This place has cheap sushi, but the quality is mediocre at best. I ordered the sashimi lunch special, and my friend got the unagi bento box - both of us were very disappointed. The prices are very low, and the service is not bad, but the food was just not up to snuff. The miso soup was standard (possibly more salty than usual) and the tea tasted stale - but the real fault was with the fish: cut the wrong way, not fresh, and somehow greasy. I couldn't even finish my portion, and I'm a freak about cleaning my plate. Definitely won't be coming back - good sushi is worth paying for.

Good food, great service! I have been regularly to this place since they opened in Beacon Hill. The food has always been good (except for a couple of times out of many many times). I like their sushi better than Ma Soba next door (I like the Salmon combo). I also like their spicy seafood fried rice and the "Salmon & Soy bean pods fried rice" (the portion is huge, almost for 2 meals). The Atlantic salmon filet in light salt & pepper is pretty good too! And people working their are really friendly. I definitely recommend this place!

I've been to Fin's a few times and it is best place to go for lunch on a weekday. Their weekend menu is not nearly as good. Normally I get the bento boxes for lunch. I've had the chicken and pork katsu, and the beef teriyaki. The best part is that the meat comes with a bunch of sides: rice, fruit, sushi, salad, and dumplings, and they all taste good. The main meat part tastes delicious and is always decently cooked, but you need the sides to make up for the meat's small size. Service is usually quick and friendly. I wish their menus explained their choices and the non-alcoholic beverage selection was bigger, but those are small problems.

I'm sure this isn't the highest quality Japanese food in Boston, but it's pretty good and very reasonably priced. The interior is clean and cozy, and I love that they have not only a raw menu, but a fairly extensive cooked menu as well. This allowed me to drag the husband along since he's not a sushi fan. They offer a number of specialty rolls in addition to all the standards you'd expect. I was a little hesitant when our party of 2 came in and they sat us at the far end of a table set for 6, despite that there were tables for 4 available. I wasn't sure if they'd seat another small party at our table with us, but fortunately they did not. We started off with soups - the miso was pretty standard, and the dumpling soup was very good. I had the Hawaii Roll, which was tasty, along with a more classic option (salmon, I think.) Both were good. Husband had the cooked lobster with spicy mayo, which was delicious, as well as a California roll. Service was prompt and friendly. I wouldn't hesitate to come back if I were in the area again.

I saw the photo of their beef and onion bento box and thought, "That looks delicious. I've gotta have it." So I took a stroll from the Commons up to Fins. When I got in I was greeted by the host and I said I wanted takeout. After ordering the bento I waited about 10-15 minutes before a waitress returned with my food. I was surprised by the volume. It felt like almost a pound of food. I thought perhaps I had got the wrong order but that couldn't be as I was the only person waiting for takeout. Automatically I know I got my monies worth. It's a lot larger than I had originally thought it looked like. For just under $10 you get miso soup, an entree, 2 piece sushi, 2 dumplings, salad and fruit. That's a lot of food and great value for the money. They even packaged it really well. I had no clue there was miso soup in bag. There were no leaks or spills on my walk back to the office. And all of it was delicious. There's not many Japanese restaurants in Boston (and no the place that sells chicken teriyaki in all the food courts don't count) but to find such good food and affordable prices is rare. Fins has a fan in me.

Beacon Hill (& the North End) doesn't have hardly any options for sushi, so I was ecstatic when Fins opened. Their food is fresh, their rolls are generously large and their service is respectable. I love sushi and find that Fins is my new go-to restaurant in Beacon Hill when I'm craving raw fish. Plus, they don't have a minimum purchase order for delivery like Ma Soba.

After tiring of cafeteria food at Mass General, I decided to treat myself to a sushi lunch. I had an order of yellowtail maki and one of salmon maki. Both were very good, and enough for me(though I don't eat a lot). I found the rolls to be a standard size. Good amount of tender fish. For around $10.00 I had a very nice lunch.

I was worried when Fins came to Beacon Hill since I've only heard good things about the location in Kenmore. I have to say, after eating here a couple of times and getting takeout more frequently, Fins has lived up to my high expectations. They have all the standard rolls you'd normally find in a sushi place and a few special house rolls. I really like the Fashion Maki and Spider Maki. Each time I've eaten at Fins, the fish has always been fresh and well made. The prices are reasonable, on par with Zen Sushi, but definitely cheaper than Ma Soba. The interior of the restaurant is small, but as another reviewer stated, that's what makes it cozy. It's definitely not the place for a large party since a lot of the tables are very close together. Despite that, it's very chic and the ambiance is nice. The service is always top notch as well, and I've never felt like I was being rushed out, which has happened in a couple other Beacon Hill restaurants. Overall, I'm very happy Fins has moved to Beacon Hill since it's quickly become my go to place for sushi.

Who likes jury duty? Well I do! What's better than having the day off from work, let out of jury duty at 11 on a sunny 70 plus degree day!? Since the girlfriend's favorite restaurant is Fins, she decided to come meet me for lunch and try out the new Fins that opened in this area. I like this place for a number of reasons, food is good, service is good, and bill is always cheaper than you'd expect. Started off with a special Hawaiian maki roll, and white tuna sashimi (very fresh). Since it was lunch time, we had to take advantage of the lunch special bentos. She ordered the eel bento, which came with the eel in unagi sauce, rice (brown), 2 pieces of gyoza, 2 pieces of California roll, salad, an orange, piece of honey dew, grapes, and a miso soup. All for less than 10 bucks, yeah definitely take advantage of the lunch specials. Portions are on the smaller side, but you do get a variety of things, that typically should satisfy, if not just order more, like us! I ordered the Chilean sea bass bento, not really what I thought it was going to be, but it was not bad. The sea bass were little nuggets fried in tempura batter, I'd prefer the sea bass itself not fried, but wasn't complaining for the price it was. Sushi is good and has the brown rice option (I don't mind it), prices are very reasonable, and service is good. I work in the area as well, so that's not the last time they'll be seeing me!

I just ordered avocado and cucumber sushi from here and there was a HUGE bug in my avocado!! I am so grossed out and don't know how it got in there. This was a hopeful GrubHub order from my last iffy order from them (Miso Soup was not good) but I ordered again anyways... NEVER again.

Sake bombing - a ridiculous but oh so fun invention. Went here last night with a large group of friends and we greeted with friendly smiles and amazing service all night long. They were able to handle our noisiness, indecisiveness with the order and repeated yells of "sake, sake, bomb, bomb". The food was up to the mark with special mentions to the fire maki roll, yellow fins roll and yellowtail Serrano .

SHOWDOWN. My boyfriend and I tried Fin's sushi last night as a bit of an experiment. For anyone who lives in the area the big question is why is there ANOTHER sushi place opening on Cambridge Street? I mean Ma Soba is two blocks away... but Fin's offered a completely different experience than our regular spot and was very enjoyable. I think a lot of the differences comes down to vibe and price. Fin's is by far much less expensive than a typical sushi place. We paid about 50 dollars for an appetizer, three rolls, two beers and a glass of wine. I mean this is grocery store prices for restaurant quality rolls. I mean yes. there is a compromise on this point because I don't think the rolls are quite as good as Ma Soba. However I LOVED the Fin's Signature roll- it was shrimp tempura with peach, cucumber with mayo & Bean Sprout. Fins' is also a lot smaller and a little more informal (dare I say trendier?) The two small rooms are sleek and intimate and it looked like there were several great seats at the bar. However, I didn't like that we were seated at a high bar table for six with two other people at the other end of the table- I mean- it wasn't that packed. The drink menu is decent and I can also say that everything came out really quickly (not the kind of sushi place where you wait 2 hours for 1 roll). I also noticed that almost everyone in the restaurant was in their 20s.. so it was a very different vibe from ma soba with the formal table cloth quieter restaurant vibe. I forsee this becoming some sort of neighborhood battle with loyalties and alliances being formed and I can't say I know which side I'm on... but I do know that Fin's is definitely worth a second trip.

A little pricey but if you want good fresh sushi and a nice atmosphere its a great place to stop by. I got the sashimi and the slices of sashimi were so thick and fresh. It was amazing. They also have a good amount of yummy rolls. If you're looking to save money, go during lunch.

Had a take-out lunch from Fin's today and it was a great choice. The prices are very reasonable and the food was delish. I just had a california maki and an idaho maki for a quick lunch, and they were excellent. The rolls are actually pretty big, and I had to eat the idaho maki in two bites each, because the sweet potato was cut thick. There were 2 sticks side by side in the roll, and the tempura was nice and crunchy. The sweet potato looked a little pale, so I was worried that it was undercooked. They ended up being tender but still had some bite to them. My personal preference would be for thinner sweet potato sticks, cooked a little softer. The california maki had a good amount of crunchy cucumber. Though some of the avocado had oxidized, it was still buttery and fresh tasting. My lunch was ready in 15 min from when I placed the phone call and the hostess desk is immediately inside the door. Seems like a small space, but I didn't feel cramped. I also think I had a little fruit fly hitch a ride back to my office with me from Fin's. I'm not positive though. I do have two mandarin's on my desk, but I didn't see the fruit fly until I sat down with my lunch. No matter, I will definitely be ordering from Fin's again.

Compared to the other sushi options in the area, Fins is by far the best. As long as you can get past its location on Cambridge street, you will not be disappointed with the food. I have had both take-out and sit-in food from Fins and I enjoyed my meal both times. The experience in the restaurant was especially good - it is a very comfortable, clean environment and the waitress offered up some delicious suggestions. Food: The menu offers a mixture of both classic and unique roll options. I highly recommend the sushi pizza, Double Match Maki, Yellow Fin's roll, Ocean Maki. Really, all of the specialty rolls have been terrific. While Fins is not the best sushi/sashimi in the city, you really can't beat the value for what you get. So if you happen to be in the Beacon Hill/West End area, it's definitely the best option around to satisfy a sushi craving.

I've had lunch at Fin's and gotten take out. Dine In - Friendly Service, Good Atmosphere, Good Price Lunch Time Bento boxes under $10 ..probably the cheapest in all of Boston and it's available on Saturday. Great presentation, but the flavors are just okay. I ordered the salmon bento box (about $8) and basically had a very thin piece of salmon covered in teriyaki sauce. A bit underwhelming. The other sides it came with - fried gyoza, california roll, fruit, and rice, were okay. The miso soup was good. Take Out - Fast and Efficient Another time, I ordered a few rolls for take out - California roll, and requested that it was made with brown rice. Very cool, they don't charge extra for brown rice. My order was ready when I came. Fins was just okay. At $8 for a bento box, I'm going to give them another try.

Fantastic sushi! It is very hard (surprisingly) to find fresh sushi in Boston but this place exceeded my expectation. Everything was really fresh and made to perfection. I definitely consider myself a sushi snob as well!

I live upstairs from this finns and I would probably starve if this place wasn't there. I always opt for the chicken teriyaki because you get a meal that could feed you for two days for under $15. With this meal you get soup, salad, rice, two chicken breast and a side of teriyaki sauce. It is delicious! I also really like the sushi here and highly recommend the fire make. Shrimp tempura with spicy tuna on top is the best combination. There is a great selection of rolls and staff is very friendly.

After ordering takeout from this place regularly for months, i was extremely disappointed tonight when they seemed to have a computer glitch and therefore didn't fulfill my order. I called to inquire because it was taking so long. These things happen so normally I would just place my order then on the phone but the Manager was so rude on the phone that I not only ordered elsewhere but will not be going back. Even when I explained that I was a regular customer and there was a mishap he said that it was my problem, he didn't care and then hung up. It's too bad, but I can't support a place with that type of poor service.

I went in a group so I saw a small variety of dishes. I had the Boston roll because my friend recommended it, and miso soup The Boston roll had 6 large pieces and is lightly filling. There was lettuce, very good salmon, julienned cucumber, delicious red fish roe, creamy avocado, and a smidgen of mayo. It takes several bites to eat a piece, but the roll falls apart after one. The rice wasn't as tasty as I wanted. The miso soup was a little expensive for $2 and a little too salty. The portions of the fried rice and the spicy beef noodles are enormous and looked really good. One note about the noodles. You have a choice of udon, ramen, or soba. Also the interior is pretty dark and the choice of music is questionable. I'm a little frugal and disappointed with the rice and soup which is why I gave it 4 stars. It's very nice place to go to.

So I never liked sushi, but I've been trying my best to get into it. I feel like it's such an easy thing to eat and I so want to love it, but my tastebuds aren't agreeing with me much. However, my friend told me to try the Crazy Maki, and I loved it! I could eat it regularly, although I shouldn't since it's tempura sushi. I should definitely eat healthier sushi, but I am just so glad there is some sort of sushi I like now. I've ordered from Fins a couple times. Probably won't order as much now that I'm not working at MGH, but it will definitely be a great place to go to Beacon Hill for.

Went into this place for lunch and the service was pretty good. It was busy and we sat at the bar. But man oh man the brown rice was nasty and stale. What a bummer. How hard is that? It is made in a giant rice maker that ensures yummy rice. I actually got to the point where I just picked out the tuna and salmon and left the rest. Even the seaweed was somehow stale. I love Douzo and recognize that it is pricey and was hoping to find a reasonable place with quality. No such luck.

I am giving them 4 stars and not 5 because of one mediocre experience. I have been here several times, mostly for lunch since I work right across the street. Every time I have come for lunch (tuna roll, cali roll and salmon roll) it has been delicious and the price is reasonable. One time my boyfriend and I went here for dinner after work and it wasn't as good. The food was still decent but not as good as the lunch menu and the portion for dinner was much smaller and higher priced than the lunch menu. I don't want to write a bad review based on one experience but I can't give them all 5 stars.

Came back to dine in and was once again pleasantly surprised, this time by the excellent service. Our server was friendly and very attentive. The layout of the dining area, which is partitioned by a wall, is very appealing and lets you forget you're on busy Cambridge St. I will definitely be back soon.

This place FINALLY opened, and I think it was worth the wait! The quality of the fish is much much better than Ma Soba, and maybe even Zen Sushi. Love the decor, and prices are reasonable, particularly for lunch. Service was fine - not overly friendly, but not offensive either. Fin's is a welcome addition to the neighborhood!

I came here around 5pm on a Tuesday. It wasn't crowded, so I was offered the sushi bar or a table (dining solo). Can't beat the $15 chirashi, with miso soup included (soup included wasn't specified on the menu, so it was a nice surprise). Great quality sushi rice, slightly sweet with some sesame seeds. Great assortment of yummy, fresh fish. GENEROUS slices of fish. I felt a little rushed, but good attentive service. Since it wasn't crowded, the staff were chatting nearby, somewhat loud, so it was a little difficult to relax and enjoy the atmosphere. Otherwise, great experience. $15 for a great chirashi! I'll be back.

Good for lunch. Service was a little slow but nothing horrendous. Got the chicken teriyaki bento, beef teriyaki bento and yaki soba noodles...as well as spicy salmon roll and salmon sashimi salad. All were good. Not much more that I can say. These are pretty standard items and they hit the mark. I only wish the salmon sashimi salad had more sashimi! The bentos are great because it comes with miso soup, California rolls, salad, fruit, rice and your protein. The yaki soba noodles were great. Very flavorful. The noodles have a really chewy consistency. I come here often for lunch and will again.

There are few sushi places on the east coast that impress me and this definitely wasn't one of them. Mediocracy at best... I'm particularly saddened by any sushi establishment that puts cream cheese in their rolls. Also, I don't mind a little bit of tempura but I felt ill after I had the spicy tuna tempura. It has too much tempura, not enough tuna and no rice. Didn't see that one coming... We also had the ramen soup. It was a huge serving and was only OK so after a few bites I was done. The waitress was great but unfortunately I don't think I'll be back.
