Us tourists keep getting fished by this market place! But it's okay, we're doomed to be trapped, gypped and broke when on vacation. The steamed lobster from this joint was decent. Sitting at the booth was fun, we got to watch the lobster master chef prepare live and steamed lobsters in front of us. The corn that comes with the lobster tasted like a boiled plastic water bottle - tasteless (hopefully, it's because the corn's sweetness seeped into the lobster meat). The bacon wrapped scallops was my favorite! It came with a bed of rice. Bacon cures everything - there was a generous portion of it presented on a skewer (about 4 wraps of it per skewer). The fresh oysters here weren't bad. Avoid the clam chowder at all cost unless you're into tangy/sour-tasting chowder. We were too anxious when we saw our food so we didn't question the chef about it. The cups of chowder we had was definitely a bit sour tasting - shouldn't be like that right? Either the clam or cream had gone bad or something! Looking back on pictures, the chowder did appear to look a bit spoiled. It was seriously the worst cup of clam chowder I've tasted. My friend noted that even Yoshinoya's clam chowder tasted 10x better than the one we had here. Luckily, we are all healthy and alive after having the clam chowder here. No public restrooms were harmed.

Another tourist trap disappointment. One of the worst lobster roll I have had despite paying 16 bucks for that small lil s'wich. I had already set my expectations low given the tourist fanfare flocking in Quincy however never expected the lob roll to be that big disaster. The lobster roll at NYCs Luke lobster is 10x better than here. The savior was the oyster shell filled crispy oyster meat mixed with batter(sorry I forget the name), it was really tasty and flavorful. The clam chowder was similar to one I find in any NYC deli. Verdict- avoid if you can

Fantastic Lobster Roll and Clam chowder. Lobster very fresh and clam chowder is rich, thick with chunks of fresh clams that's not over cooked. I came back to this place two days in a row. Only negative is quite expensive but I'd rather pay a but more for good food than have bad food for cheap.

Sampled the lobster roll here, and was definitely underwhelmed. The bread got super soft and soggy, so the roll had to be eaten with a knife and fork. The lobster also tasted pretty underseasoned, when I bit in, the overwhelming flavor was the mayo. Not too impressed.

  • Patti M.

Fairly priced with lots to eat. I had clam chowder (tasty but could have used more clams) with a steamed lobster (cut up sooo nicely it was EASY to get the meat) and corn on the cob. It wasn't the best but it wasn't the worst either for a chick trying to get one more quick fix before leaving Boston.

I come to this place overtime we have guest because it is convenient. The rolls taste good and the chowder is great! However my only issues are the bread is not toasted and there is too much bread.

  • Dotty D.

They have a lot of options, so I'm sure that people will find something they like there. I had the Clams Casino. It was okay, but I've definitely had better. They people there were very helpful, though.

Pass on and keep walking. I should have known based on the fact they had no line and five feet away another place did. The food is below average. They also said I couldn't sit down at there seating because I didn't get alcohol. Really? I just spent $18 on a crappy lobster roll, I'm sitting down to eat it. Just sit if they give you trouble, they can't do anything about it but would recommend to keep going on.

I ended up picking this place over the endless clam chowder options in the marketplace because they had gumbo-and I was trying to decide between the two. They ended up letting me taste both so I ended up with the clam chowder. The gumbo tasted a bit too tomato soupy for my tastes. I got a size small, which was good because I got full and could not even finish that. It was around $6 for that size which is pricey, if you ask me. Having tried my friend's clam chowder from another location in the marketplace, this clam chowder had less clams and was a lot creamier. My friend's had more flavor, but I'm not a huge fan of clam so somehow it worked out, though I regretted my decision to buy it from here.

Lobster roll is big and have lots of lobster inside. I wish the bread is roasted with butter that would be great! Overall very fast and attentive service, just the sitting area too tight.

A fine place for lunch. We had the shrimp platter of 12 really delicious firm texture perfect shrimp and the chowda. The chowda was okay. Not as much fish as I like.

Chowder was good, was a little expensive for such a small portion however. Im not big into sea food, but everything else looked amazing.

My first trip to Quincy Market in quite a while, I stopped in for some chowda at this fine establishment. After shelling out over $6 for a minuscule portion, I sat at a counter at the place to eat. It was at that point that an extremely obnoxious gentleman told me I could not eat my chowder there because the stools were reserved for customers who ordered from their raw bar. There was nobody even at this raw bar counter yet he was so insistent he ruined my meal. DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS ESTABLISHMENT UNLESS YOU ARE FINE WITH THIS RUDE UNPROFESSIONAL TREATMENT. Btw, the chowda wasn't even particularly good for boston standards.

This is one of the choices for clam chowder and lobster roll in Quincy Market. Comparing to the other place I had my clam chowder at Quincy Market, the clam chowder here was a bit more creamy and less chunky. Boston Chowda has more larger pieces of potato and clam, and is less thick. I guess it depends on what you're into. I personally prefer the chunkiness and less creaminess of clam chowder. The lobster roll here is also on just a regular roll-like bread, and looked more runny and mayonnaise-y to me, so i didnt order it. again, this is just a personal preference. in any case, ANY clam chowder in boston (mind you, this is coming from an LA girl) HAS to be good. RIGHT?!

  • Alvin Y.

I gave One star, because there is no option for ZERO star. I ordered 1 Lobster Roll with a cup of Chowder soup, but eventually I was charged $34.96, which is the price for 2 Lobster Rolls with 1 cup of chowder soup. They swiped my card. As there is no signature required, I didn't notice they double charged me. SO Please pay attention and double check your receipts before you go away!

The lobster roll was very tasty in my opinion. They do look like they stuff it, but the one piece of lettuce makes it look fuller that what it actually was. I wanted some lobster in every bite, so I had to adjust the lobster meat more evenly throughout the roll itself. Kinda pricey for one lobster roll, but oh well. What can you do.

Lobster roll & clam chowda!!! Was visiting from out of town and wanted to have an authentic New England lunch!

  • Mary T.

The clam chowder was good! It was delicious and one of the better ones I have ever had. There was a lot of clams and potatoes and the chowder was perfectly flavored. The lobster roll on the other hand, it was only ok. There was too much dressing on the lobster. The lobster were also in small bits so you can't really get the texture of the lobster meat. They don't give you a lot of lobster meat either. The lobster salad on the roll was pretty runny with too much mayonnaise. I would opt for Boston Chowda Co. instead.

very interesting and funny. Assistants are nice but lobster looked big but when u start eating. It just a little. Maybe come for a second time. With beer and soft drinks

My first oysters on my trip to Boston! They were delicious!!! I came on this trip with a friend who is allergic to seafood, so I didn't think I'd be able to go to any seafood restaurants. But when we came to visit Quincy Market, I saw this place and jumped on the opportunity to try some oysters. We had dinner shortly before so I wasn't very hungry and bought 3 oysters, planning to only eat 1 and share the rest with a friend flying in that night. However, once I had the first oyster, there was no turning back. I finished my plate in a matter of seconds. These oysters were so fresh! Fairly large and given with fresh lemon slices. True, I don't have Boston seafood to compare these to, but I HAVE tried oysters in various other states and these were definitely the best by far.

The Lobster Roll was fresh and delicious! Good first Lobster Roll experience at Quincy Market!

My friend ordered Fresh Raw Oysters and their Cherrystones Clams. I wasn't planning on getting anything, but after looking at those huge ass Cherrystones Clams I just had to. For about $2 each, the price is not bad. They Cherrystones Clams are shucked right infront of you. They are huge, meaty, and slightly sweet. After eating 3, I just wanted more and more but my financial woes prevented me from getting 100 Clams. Definitely coming back for Cherrystones next time I'm around!!

Located near the front entrance of the Historical Quincy Market, we should had stroll the entire market for other lobster rolls & chowder, but didn't. The lobster roll and clam chowder special was competitively price & was reasonable. Yes, it was a lobster salad as it was a mayo based mixture, so being moisted it was. Lobster meat was decent and freshly made, but a bit wet to my liking. The rolls was the traditional split hot dog style bun. Good portion wise as it was about 4-5 ounces. Clam chowder was OK, chunks of potatoes and fair amount of clams in a creamy warm chowder. No bits of celery, onions or bacon/pork back fat as seasoning & flavor that I can detect. Again, my preference for a good clam chowder in my book.

Ahhh! Went here on accident, lol Same look as its partner, Boston CC. Pretty meh....more of this lobster salad that has a hefty price tag. Clam Chowder bowl was okay but for crying out loud!! Give me some soup in my bread bowl-you have to take out some bread in order to do this.... Prb wouldn't go back, too many other choices....

Some of the best looking fish in the Quincy Market. The prices are high though and the fish tasted just OK. Not sure I"d be back.

The oyster bloody mary shot was awesome, and the bread bowl with chowder was great too. There is a little seating area right on the side of this business storefront that gives you enough room to have some privacy while tons of people stroll by. The prices are ok, and the beer was fresh and cold as well. I really enjoyed my visit here, its just what I need when I come to Boston.

Location: Faneuil Hall. Food: Six shrimp and dipping sauce. Verdict: Fantastic and fresh! For a fast causal place, I'd totally recommend this place if you're in the area. You place your order at the window and they'll have your food and drink out to you in a minute or less. Price is comparable (~$10 a person for food and non alcoholic drink). Come check it out for a fun place in the city! Cheers!

After going to Hennesseys to find they were out of lobster and waiting too long for the Oyster House we ended up here. I remember seeing people eating lobster at lunch so said what the heck. Obviously not as nice as a sit down restaurant but in my opinion it's better. It was fun, lobster was great (cooked in front if you and they crack it for you!) and the mussels were awesome. You can still enjoy a beer or wine. Great Boston experience. Marcos (owner I believe) served us he's great. Check out the pics.

great lobster rolls and 2nd best clam chowder I've ever had!! I had to compare this to the Boston Chowda Co's soup...and i think one is WAYYYYYYYYYY better! It was thicker and not too over-empowering in taste. Would definitely come back

    (5)
  • Teresa Z.

very horrible service. the lobster roll was not even that good, you can definitely get something WAYYY better for the price they are charging anywhere else in Boston. The clam chowder was mostly potatoes no clam what so ever. i thought this was a self service vendor, but the staff asked for tips at the end when I did not receive any service from him. i would not be returning to this place and do not recommend anyone going here for anything if you're ever in Boston.

ugh I just don't know about this place....This place is located at Faneuil Hall, and I thought they had some of the best lobster rolls in Boston...I was SORELY disappointed. First, the people who serve aren't the nicest; they pretty much dismiss you as soon as possible and then charge you and arm and a leg for what...? The lobster roll is SO LACKING in flavor and so boring; all I tasted was mayo mixed with lobster meat and really, for $10, I didn't see much meat. I definitely won't be going back; Boston has to have much better than what this place offered. I dont need to pay so much for less than tastable food and rude service. *Insert Emoji stop hand* Boston & Main Fish Co: you are dismissed

Ah, Faneuil Hall. One of the most popular dining areas in Boston. Every time my family and I visit my father's birth city, we eat here. A month ago, we visited the city again, and we were in the mood for seafood (hey, I unintentionally rhymed!), so we tried this place. Normally, we stick to the pizza places or each of us hits up someplace different, but that day we all ate here. After fighting our way through the MASSIVE crowd of ravenous Bostonians and tourists (one of the best parts of Faneuil Hall!), we looked at the menu. My mother and father got lobster rolls, my younger sisters a fried scallop platter, and I got the broiled salmon with rice. My mom also got a shrimp cocktail, and I got a small cup of chowder on the side. After yet again pushing through the crowds and barely managing to snag a spot to sit down and eat (no table, only a few benches with the meals resting on our laps), we dug in. My salmon was incredible. Lean, tender, and perfectly cooked, as was the rice. I ate about half and gave the rest to my dad and sisters to finish off so I could save room for my "dessert": the chowder. Best chowder I've ever had. Hands down. It was wonderfully thick, creamy, and the clam chunks were nice and big. I was shocked upon my first bite, never having tasted chowder that thick. Sadly, even though I'm a New England native, I'm used to the "runny milk from a can" (as my father put it); I fear I'll never be able to eat any other clam chowder again! I didn't try any of the other dishes, but my parents devoured their lobster rolls really fast, and my dad remarked that it was the best lobster roll he's had in a long time. My mom loved her shrimp cocktail, and my sisters enthusiastically downed their scallops like candy. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal, and I have now found the best chowder of my life (so far).

When I say I won't be back it's not just because I live in Seattle... Okay, ultimately, I guess, maybe it is. But if I lived in the next stall over I'd say the same thing. The lobster roll isn't. It's a lobster SALAD roll. (Did you notice the heavy emphasis on 'salad' ? I did that on purpose because there's not much in the way of lobster in the roll. It's mostly chopped cabbage with some sort of mayonnaise dressing going on... Clever, ain't I ?) Even the chowder wasn't anything special. I expect better at Ivar's... (Oops. That's a Seattle reference that most people won't get... Ivar's is a fast seafood restaurant that creates pretty impressive food that comes from the sea... Sorry.) My last contention: It's all served in Styrofoam to-go containers. Yuck. What do we do with these? Do we just throw them away? Is there recycling? Do we need to rinse and reuse? Yuck. No. I won't buy a plane ticket to go back.

It took me awhile to find this place because I forgot to take the picture and grab a card when I ate here. Luckily, my friend did, and so here is my review... WOW!!! The $10 lobster special is FANTASTIC. and for $12.99, you can get clam chowder with it too. The lobster is cooked to order, and you wait for it with a beer they serve on tap. I had a Sam Adams Brick Red, and a bowl of clam chowder while i waited, and it was the best clam chowder I've ever had. It was thick and creamy, and the clams did not overtake the soup to be very fishy. So wonderful. The lobster is fresh and steaming hot. They cut it for you, and you just pick the meat right off the lobster, dip it in butter, and enjoy. I like eating seafood with lemon/salt/pepper so i made my own, and it was even better. The counter is very small. You can fit a max amount of 4 people, and that's about it. We took over the counter space and just devoured the lobster. Best $10 spent in Boston.

  • J C.

Not impressed. I had a lobster and lobster roll. They don't give you a lot of lobster meat in the rolls. The price is cheap, but I would rather give couple more $$ but get decent amount of meat.... I understand this is a market place where you compete for price. So just beware of what you are buying. I recommend Yankee Lobster near Seaport Drive.

Clam chowder is bread bowl was good... Nothing spectacular but very good chowder... Just not a bowl that I thought was perfect like some we have had before. Pleasant staff.

Dropped in for some chowder and was disappointed. Very starchy, and you can count on only finding potato in there. Keep looking if you're hankering for a good bowl of clam chowder.

Another Faneuil Hall Treat. Good Price. Decent Food. Quick Service. So one of trip goals was to eat as much oyster as I can. Coming from California, Oysters are either stupid expensive or not fresh/delicious tasting. So I figured I would take advantage as much as I can. Unfortunate to say, I have found places that have fresher Oysters. But with the price and amount they give you, I would say this place will curb your cravings for that little shelled goodie. What the star was for me was the Stuffed clam and Whole Lobster for $16.99. Holy smokes! That's a really good deal, especially from where I am from. I guess that would be my only bias, but for the taste and quality I got in that lobster, this really wasn't bad. You can look at some of my other reviews I did while I was in the East Coast, and you probably won't see me give a better review for cheap, fresh, fast seafood.

When in Boston, you must get your Clam Chowder fix on! I tried the Boston & Maine Fish Co. on my first visit to Quincy Market and ordered their Lobster Roll and cup of Clam Chowder, priced at $17.76, how patriotic. Added a soda and it came to just about $20. On a funny side note, when I was placing my order with the girl, I said, "Can I get the Clam Chowder combo?" She looked at me and said, "What?" So I repeated, "The Clam Chowder combo," and then pointed to the sign. She then said, "Oh, Chowda Combo." I'm sorry that I pronounced it, "Chow-DUR" as it's spelled, "Chowder" on the sign. I just had to smile. Before takeing a spoonful of my Chowder, err...Chowda I added the oyster crackers and man, that was the best cup of Clam Chowda I've ever had. It was full of flavor and I honestly just about licked my cup clean, it was that good! The Lobster Roll, with a little sprinkled lemon on top was awesome! That roll was chock full of Lobster and did not disappoint. I also like the bread they used, it was soft and a little sweet. What's cool about B&MF Co. is that they have a little bar setup with counter seating so you don't have to fight for a spot in the dining halls. Compared to Boston Chowda Co., B&MF Co. has them beat, in my opinion. But, try them out for yourself and get the Lobster Roll, that can't be missed!!!

Scoured the entire market before landing at this joint. There were two other lobster roll places in the market but with some investigating (the lobster meat was chunkier), we decided to eat here. Plus there was a raw bar area so you could order a few beers (Sam Adams or Bud Light) and sit down! The lobster roll was tasty but my only recommendation would be for a little less mayo. The oysters were large, fresh and shucked right in front of us, always a treat... (with a few shell pieces here and there). Oh, and the Red Sox game was playing in the background which made me nauseous but luckily I had the lobster roll to save me.

On my day trip to Boston last month, Quincy Market was the first stop. We stopped here since it's a sorta touristy spot/place to check out, and it was the general area to get onto trolley/hop on-hop off busses. (which we were planning to do) Anyways, walking through Quincy Market, all the food is about the same looking, but we stopped at Boston & Maine Fish Co. to grab some chowda. The chowder from here is good, but I was expecting more... in Boston!

Hands down the best seafood I've ever had. Quick, simple and outstanding over the counter dishes for visitors of quincy market. I had the lobster salad sandwich which had huuuge chunks of lobster in a soft sour-dough roll. My girlfriend had the shrimp salad roll and she loved the mini shrimp. We liked the food so much we ended up also ordering the clam chowder, a dozen raw oysters and to top it off a seasonal sam adams. My girlfriend had never had oysters before - and I must add she doesn't really like fishy foods - but she looooved the fresh oysters that the waiter cracked right in front of us. To top off the experience, quincy market is a cool marketplace-type environment with dozens of places to eat and shop in close quarters.

  • Lauretta L.

Friendly staff but not so great lobsters. Rubbery and way too chewy! The whole lobster I got here almost ruined my taste for lobster until I had a fresh and perfectly cooked one just recently. However, their swordfish skewers looked fantastic so I recommended them to my friend, who raved about the dish. I would come back to try that, and perhaps the oysters.

Okay - Huge snow storm going on and I wanted a cup of chowder...I am visiting Boston and figured I'd walk over to Quincy Market. This was the first chowder place I came to and they had a bar to sit at - winning so far. Ordered some chowder and steamed clams - clams were New England style ( they don't drench it in butter and garlic like they do on the West Coast - stupid me). They were gritty and fishy (fresh but gritty) and I asked REALLY NICELY if I could have the mussels instead. NOTE: a $5 bill in hand ready to go in the tip jar.....the guy went nuts on me, he was really upset but still did it - mumbling to himself along the way. I said "thank you so much". As the mussels were cooking, I ate my chowder...ugh. SUPER thick and filled with potatoes...I know there must have been a clam in there - somewhere... isn't there some law that says a clam has to be in the chowder in order to be called clam chowder????...but I said nothing, I ate it and waited patiently... In the meantime I asked for a cup of water and he gave me bottled water.....I said tap water is fine and he informed me it's against regulations. The guy next to me eating a lobster had a cup of tap water, WTHeck? He would not give me a cup of water after I asked twice....at this point I am so shocked and mad because a) I ate heavy cream of potato soup instead of clam chowder and b) I cannot get a cup of water to get rid of the rich taste in my mouth...I said "I am out of here...." paid the bill and left. He mumbled something angrily and I went back into the storm and headed somewhere else for chowder... DON'T bother to go here.... there are way better places. THIS is BOSTON for goodness sake. I need to check in with Yelp before venturing out next time...ugh.

I am not a big fan of New England Clam Chowder but I'm a fan of this store's Clam Chowder. I ordered the seafood gumbo as well and it was DELICIOUS. I will come back to order more stuff next time.

Came here on a weekday night with a girl friend 30 minutes before they closed and got quick, efficient service...but a hovering server who seemed to be hanging on to every work in our conversation. The clam chowder was delicious - creamy, thick, plenty of clams, not overly salty and not overly thick. Perfect with the little oyster crackers on a cold night. Clam casino was ok at best. They didn't even bother to heat it up so it was served cool (not even lukewarm). It was flavorful, but anyone can bake up a mound of seasoned breadcrumbs and call it a dish. There were teeny pieces of clam bits in there that made the "dish"...ok. Oysters were fine. Not anything to write home about, unmemorable but fresh enough so we woke up the next day without an upset stomach. :) I also think this place is a little overpriced - almost $6 for tiny bowl of clam chowda? really?

Back in August 2010, I visited Boston for a few days. I wanted to try the lobster roll and clam chowder here since I saw this place had decent reviews on Yelp. I thought the lobster roll was just average. I've had better in Boston. However, the clam chowder was delicious!! Flavor and the creaminess of the soup was perfect, and there was a lot of clams. Yummy! If I'm ever in Boston again, I will definitely skip the lobster roll, and get the clam chowder again.

  • Norry H.

It is a pleasant surprise that there is a place in the Faneul Hall where you can have a steamed lobster. The New England clam chowder was pretty good but it would have been much better with more clams I thought. This place is great if you want to have a quicky lobster meal with a nice glass of Sam Adams.

Best chowder I had in Boston! That's all I had there, and the only thing that seemed appealing to me there, but it was goooooood!

  • Abbey H.

Best clam chowder I've ever eaten! That having been said, it, as well as all the stalls at Faneuil Hall is crowded and noisy, but that's what I'd expect given the location. I ordered a medium clam chowder, after having tried a sample, thinking that my husband and I could share it. Needless to say, he didn't get so much as a spoonful - I ate it all! Would go back in a heartbeat.

  • Thomas W.

As I walked thru Faneuil Hall I saw the masses of people carrying little lobsters with corn on the cob, and a cup of Chowda. I had to try one of the combos. It was an excellent deal. Lobster was piping hot, and a little water logged. The Chowda was top notch. If you are looking for a fast lobster meal this place is great!

You know how everyone talks about clam chowder being the best thing ever in boston? They have their chowderfest, and everywhere you go near the water seems to have their own take on it, right? Well my boyfriend and I were in Boston and we really wanted to get some clam chowder, just to complete our Bostonian experience, and since we were at quincy market, we saw this place and picked it because of their amazing looking swordfish kabobs in the window!!! THOSE THINGS ARE MASSIVE! You could definitely have a sword fight with those bad boys pretty easily, next time we'll get one of those. The chowder, was pretty much just average, but a small is very filling, so if you want it to be a snack like we did, you better split the order! It is creamy, but not too much clam inside of that chowder, so it really seemed more just like chowder, ya know? Can't wait to experience the chowderfest though--since i'm moving to boston, I hope to become a chowder master!!!!

  • Rona Y.

What you would expect from a restaurant in a touristy place.... the chowder was flavorful, but not full of chowder the lobster roll was ok, but wrapped around a very thick piece of bread, so not as much lobster as it looks. The worst part.. I got sick after... I'll just leave it at that. Will not be returning.

Stopped here for lunch today, Tuesday Aug 23 rd Ordered salmon and swordfish kebob, the salmon Was excellent and worth the price, the swordfish on The other hand was dry and fishy, we could not eat it. Tried to explain this to man behind the counter, he was Unable to help as we had TOUCHED the fish. Unacceptable, will never return.

I stopped by Faneuil Hall after a meeting. It was snowing and cold out and I and got a large Lobster Bisque - with crackers and a piece of corn bread. I love the bisque. It is creamy, thick and pretty filling for the size. The bread is nice too, I liked it in the bisque better than the oyster crackers. I have to say that I am a fan of the Boston Chowda as well; I try to eat the bisque from both places - this bisque tends to be a bit thicker, but it has more cream in it. I am not someone to discriminate between chowda/ bisque - I just want people visiting Boston to be aware of the different chowda places and to try the different types of local food.

mehhhhh lobster roll. It wasn't cheap enough for how boring it was. the lobster salad didn't really have much flavor and I've had much better bread. Swear it was a hot dog bun.

So many clam chowder joints in the Quincy Market. Randomly chose this one after taking our Old Town Trolley Tour. We were pretty hungry, and needed to chowder to warm the tummy. They have a combo with a cup of clam chowder and lobster roll for $14. Clam chowder was pretty good with fresh chunks of clams and small-cut potatoes. Nice buttery-taste. Lobster roll was OK. Roll was fresh and soft. The lobster was mixed with mayo and bits of celery. Too much mayo for my taste. My preference for lobster rolls is to have them naked....no mayo, just chunks of lobster. Overall, this place is OK. Food was decent, not bad. Need to try others for comparison.

Went to Boston for 4 days. Of those 4 days, had dinner here twice. Of those 2 dinners, we consumed 4 lobsters and 15 cherrystone clams. Here's why: 1) $20.99 special for lobster, piece of corn and chowda. Lobster was a little less than 1lb, but fresh. The cook showed us that the lobsters were alive before they were cooked to perfection. As for the chowda, little creamy, but still um-um-good. The corn wasnt fresh, as it was already frozen, so I passed on that. Being from New York, you just can't find a lobster deal like this. 2) $5.99 for 3 cherrystone clams (raw). This was the first time we ever had cherrystone clams, and now we're hooked. These clams were quite large and very sweet! We will be coming back to this place whenever we are in Boston.

1st night in Boston and already f'ing disappointed. What did I do to deserve this mediocre overpriced crap? Clam chowder thick and chunky, full of POTATOES, no clam. Its more potato chowder. Lobster roll was so small, 3 bites and gone. Scallop bacon tasted okay, but overcooked. Never come here, stick with the Thai joint across or anywhere else besides this place

Holy crap this place was amazing. One of my friends recommended I come here and boy am I happy I did! First, the wait staff was very, very friendly. The owner / founder was one of the servers. Really awesome guy (if you're reading this, please note that I have a friend crush on you)! They reminded me of paperboys in that they kept saying "get your fresh lobster here!" to pretty much every passerby (and it was working). I sat down at the bar area and had a bowl of clam chowder and a lobster salad club sandwich (my new obsession) for $17 TOTAL (before tip). Pretty incredible deal. It was so good, in fact, I added 6 shrimp to the meal as well (another $9). Although they churn out sandwiches by the second, the taste and quality does not suffer at all. I seriously hope these dudes come to NY!!!! If so, I would totally approve this move.

1 star for the lobster roll. although a big bite, it was nothing more than that. the lobster meat was falsely propped up high on the bun over a lettuce in the display to create the visual that you're getting an overflowing lobster roll. once i sat down and used a fork to smush the meat it fell right through to the bottom of the bun, and gives you that deflated feeling that you just got fooled. the bun was not buttered, not toasted, not hot in any way. too much bread in the bite and not enough lobster. there was no salt element. at 14 bucks the price is wrong in so many ways. 4 stars for the 7 dollar mussel plate. that was delicious in every way possible. lacking the wine in the sauce but garlic, butter, lemon was just fine. yum. i should have just eaten mussels and more mussels instead of wasting my money on the lobster roll! worth 2 stars only.

As I was walking through Quincy Market, I saw what looked to be a mini oyster bar. I LOVE oysters so I decided to get a quick snack. I've never heard of cherrystones until my visit to Boston so we tried an order of each. 3 for $5.88 - not bad. OMGoodness, I think I discovered a new love.... the cherrystones clams are ORGASMIC! They're big, plump, with really good flavor and texture. I think I could have eaten a dozen all to myself. The oysters were good and really fresh but not plumped enough to my liking. I really liked this place. The shell fish was really fresh and reasonably priced. The guy behind the counter was friendly and made our experience memorable. I'll definitely return on my next visit. If you've never had cherrystones, I HIGHLY suggest you do.

I went to Quincy Market just for some food last night. Yes, it's touristy and overpriced - but having only lived in Boston for a month I am still a tourist, and everything here is overpriced. You get used to it. Qunicy Market is cool and there are tons of food options to choose from. I was in the mood for seafood. After walking through the shops a few times I chose Boston & Maine Fish Co mostly because they had a cool little bar and a TV to watch football. I ordered the lobster roll combo for $16.99. Now, to me a lobster roll should be chunks of lobster in a very light butter sauce, served on a toasted bun. The lobster should be the star of the show, and the sandwich should be served hot. What I got was a hotdog bun with a piece of lettuce and a couple scoops of cold lobster salad. At least, it was probably lobster but it could have been any sort of seafood in there. It was drowning in mayo, and basically tasted like a mouthful of seafoodish flavored mayo. So maybe they do lobster rolls different here, and cold lobster salad is the norm? I don't know, but I do know that I paid $16.99 for a cold mayo sandwich with some bits of lobster. I've definitely had better lobster rolls. For a few dollars more, I could have had a "1lb" steamed lobster with some corn... I think I would have been much more satisfied with that choice (even though when they say steamed, they mean boiled... there is a huge difference and I don't like my seafood to be soggy). So next time I stop there, I'll try the lobster... or maybe I'll try one of the other stands.

Great bang for the buck! Steamed 1.5 lb Lobster for $19.99. 3 LARGE cherrystones for less than $6. 1 LB (guesstimate) of mussel for less than $6. The server handling the seafood bar was nice and knowledgeable. What's cool is that he chopped up my lobster for me so it's much less of a work to get to the meat!!! He gave me a little sample of their clam chowder. I liked it very much - rich and creamy.

It was cold, it was overcast, and i was hungry. I just went to Harvard and MIT for the morning tour and I was already hungry so we stopped by this place called Quincy Market. (an outdoor mall) My Family split up and went to our own food cravings in the food court. Mom had pizza, Brother had bbq, and I spotted this place because of the crowd that surrounded the place. I oredered my the famous clam chowder and they gave this serving in big portions. (of course i had the bread bowl) I took the bowl to the table and i was envyed by my mom and brothers. I did have to share a taste or two but it was ok. By far one of the best clam chowders ive ever had. A good thing too since it was the first clam chowder i had out side of California.

get the lobster roll & small chowder special for $17. the chowder is much better here than the one down the way at fanuiel hall (see my other review). the lobster roll was good too, i just dont like how its already prepared and sitting in the fridge waiting to be ordered.

Yummm Seriously...seriously...THE BEST CLAM CHOWDER I've ever had. I even prefer their clam chowdah ovah Legal seafood's and it's waaaay cheaper! When I think of Boston, I think of Boston & Maine Fish Co.

No doubt it is hard for someone to pick a spot to eat inside Quincy Market. Especially if this is going to be your first time. If you are there for seafood, there is no place better than Boston & Maine Fish Co. Lobster rolls, Clam Chowda, Lobster bisque, Clams, Oysters...more lobsters. Need to say more? There is a bar area with a handful of bar chairs. Be there early or you will end up getting your food and go down to the main food court area to eat. The person that served us at the bar was friendly. He apparently worked at Legal Sea Foods and he was very knowledgeable. In fact, he showed me the proper technique to cut a steamed lobster without slicing your fingers off. I definitely recommend the steamed lobster or clams. Fresh out of the steamers in front of your eyes. Get the meal. For $20 for the lobster and $15 for the clams, you also get a small clam chowda and corn. The chowda has more clams than potatoes, which says a lot in itself. There is Sam Adams and Bud Light available at the bar along with a limited wine selections. Now let's get back to the lobsters. It is awesome! Fresh. Juicy. Most importantly, it doesn't have that "your lobster has been sitting in the tank for days" taste to it. On the side, you get some melted butter to dip that lobster goodness. Enjoy!

Great chowder. Well then again, 95% of the restaurants in the Boston area have amazing chowder, so you're standing alone if you're not in the top tier. ;)

I'm from California, so this is the best comparison I can make for their clam chowder: A cross between the creaminess of Splash Café in Pismo Beach and the chunkiness of Pier 39 in San Francisco. Droooooool. Forget about Legal Sea Foods and Boston Chowda Co. for the best clam chowder!! It is all about Boston & Maine Fish Co! So decadent and creamy!

My friend REALLY wanted the "steamers" (clams), but they were out, so we got oysters on the half shell and steamed mussels instead. mussels were amazing dipped in melted butter, oyster was...my first time eating something raw and that slimy. "YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO SAVOR THE SEA WATER," said my friend. I just wanted to know if it really was an aphrodisiac. (Considering that I slept on a bus that night, I couldn't really tell.)

I've been to Boston several time and always trying out different lobster rolls. So this message is mostly for me so that I will remember when I am in the Quincy Market, this is the place that carries the best lobster roll. The lobster meat is in large chunks and not mushed in paste like other places on the same strip. They are more pricy than other but you get what you pay for. I didn't get a chance to try the chowder so that will be my next quest when I visit again.

Honestly, the freshest broiled scrod I have ever had the pleasure of eating! I swear, the thing was swimming just before it was put on my plate. The topping was tasty and had a hint of garlic and lemon. Comes with a choice of salad or rice. It was a bit expensive, but one must remember this is Boston;)

If you're in Quincy Marketplace be sure to stop in for some oysters and shrimp cocktail. The cherrystones were bigger and tastier than what I had earlier in the evening at Legal Seafoods. The Shrimp Cocktail was also bigger and tastier and the price of both were comparable to that of LS. The oysters weren't anything special but they were wellfleets which I'm not a big fan of. Nobody in the area has Island Creeks these days... The guy behind the counter was great to talk to and he actually had knowledge of oysters unlike the server at LS who just knew what the menu said. It was my wife's birthday so the three jumbo shrimp cocktail were complimentary. We had a couple beers each and the total came to $32 for 6 oysters, 3 beers, and three free shrimp cocktails...Not bad...

I came here with a craving for clam steamers, something that I've missed since my last visit to Boston a year ago. Yet, for for some reason, this place was out of clam steamers! So the steamed mussles and oysters on the half-shell had to do. Unfortunately, neither was particularly spectacular, and I missed the steamed clams dearly. Had this been my only encounter, I would give this place three stars, but with the memory of the steamed clams, I will give it four.

The last stop on my strolling dinner thru Quincy Market. I stopped here and had an order of Oysters on the Half Shell. (3 for $5.something). I love oysters.. and these were fresh and good. They lost a star for not offering me crackers. The lobster looked wonderful. Might stop by again.

If it's not even good enough for tourists, why is it still standing? I'm not really sure what people find attractive about Boston & Maine Fish Company but somehow it has become a popular fixture in historic Faneuil Hall (a tourist trap but an institution regardless) and reliable travel sources like Lonely Planet. The seafood is fresh but prepared and served cafeteria-style; it does not do the fresh fruits of the sea justice. If you want to sample the traditional delights of Boston/New England, I would suggest splurging a bit more (and it really is just a bit more, as B&M is, in my assessment, quite overpriced). My ma and I both wanted the lobster roll and clam chowder combo. Ordering at the counter, my California accent must have been difficult to understand, because the surly gentleman who took my order couldn't seem to make anything out and kept interjecting with prickly "What?"'s. The food is dished out fast because it was all prepared ahead; he just plucked two buns off of the display on ice. The buns were delectable-- buttery, sweet and yeasty yet pillowy all the while. Though it had a very delicate buttery flavor, we couldn't discern much lobster over the bun because the lobster was shredded and overdressed and underseasoned. No amount of lemon brightened it for me. I was disappointed initially at seeing flaked lobster meat as opposed to lump meat (it's a $17 sandwich with essentially a nice hot dog bun; you would expect to see some lumps to excuse the cost), and my disappointment was further propelled with each muddy, flavorless bite. The clam chowder was exceptionally delicious for the standard type you get at any restaurant. If I were to ever go back to Boston & Maine, I would consider ordering just this. But I don't reckon I'll be coming back. Not only was the meal disappointing, my opinion of Lonely Planet's credibility has sullied a bit because of this.

So we just had to try the lobster roll and clam chowder while in Boston. With this place, we killed two birds with one stone. They have a lobster roll and clam chowder special for $17. Before I got here, I basically pictured a lobster roll as like an egg roll type deal filled with lobster. Imagine my surprise to find out it's lobster meat on a sandwich roll. Odd but okay, I'll try it. The lobster was mixed with this mayonnaise sauce and celery. But it wasn't too heavy and since it was served cold, surprisingly refreshing. As for the small bowl of clam chowder - not the best I've ever had. But it was creamy like I like it with an average amount of clams and other ingredients. It felt like a lot of food too so I had to split it with a friend. It's in the food court at Faneuil Hall. So it's not the only place to get the lobster rolls and clam chowder. But I like to have this combo option.

I guess chowder is back on my menu again, cause I flipped out when I went to Quincy Market and dove into another bowl of clam chowder. The prices weren't too bad, and the cup size was decent. The chowder consistency is thick and creamy, but I wish they put more clams into it...I didn't get too many, I think the server didn't swirl enough from the bottom to pull me a haul. Always pluses are the oyster crackers...they hit my carb spot. This is a strictly take out place, so order when you come up and move yourself into the rotunda to eat.

Best clam chowder and lobster roll in Boston. When I moved to Boston in 2004, I drove to Portland just for a lobster roll because the best lobsters are supposedly Maine lobsters--big mistake. The lobster roll here at Faneuil Hall is not only bigger but a better bang for your buck. My boyfriend loved it so much he has added it as part of his last meal on earth. The clam chowder was absolutely mouthwatering--plus, there were a ton of fresh clams in there. It's better than the one at Legal Sea Foods IMO. I avoided Faneuil Hall for years because I thought it was a tourist trap, but now I look back wishing I had fallen into the trap right away. =)

Clam chowder in bread bowl is really good on a cold summer's day. The scallops wrapped in bacon is so-so-so YUM because the bacon fat oozes into the scallops making in extra extra tasty!!! Steamed fresh lobsters were really sweet and you can taste the natural sweetness in it. Service was really good too (if you sit by the bar) despite the craziness at Quincy Market. Would bring friends here again, because I think it's the best food place at Quincy Market.

I went there last saturday, and I loved everything about this place! The food was sooo good. I think I had the best clam chowder I've ever had... thats how good it was, and it was on a bread bowl... YUM! I also had the swordfish skewer with veggies and rice, it was just wonderful. I am definitely going there again, and I spent like $22 bucks. So it was good...

Took a visit on a Monday during the lunch hour. Placed was packed but they managed to get orders out fast! Got to sample the Lobster special with cob, and chowder, the Fish Kabob with vegetables, and Lobster roll. The roll was okay nothing special. Maybe cuz it had too much mayo. The fish Kabob was defiantly good eats. Had a cream sauce to it but delicious. Large portions of fish that was fresh/moist! Lobster special was fantastic. How do you beat lobster for less than $20 bones with some fixins'? The chowder that came with the special was good also. Defiantly worth a revisit. They have 2 sections: Raw Bar and traditional take out. Hard to get a seat at the bar since it's always busy. If you're in the area, or adjacent area doing the tourist thing...this is a good place to stop for grub! Hey, if you don't like seafood, the market place has a vast selection for anyone's palette.

  • Michael L.

The lobster roll is a disappointment. The lobster seemed shredded and covered in mayo. It barely tasted like lobster. The chowder is decent but there's much better just a short walk down to Boston chowder company. I wouldn't go back for either.

My boyfriend and I came here to grab a quick lunch during the week. Even though quincy market is crowded we still managed to snag a seat at their bar. He ordered the lobster roll and clam chowder and I ordered the salmon so we could have a variety of foods to taste. The clam chowder was quite tasty as was the lobster roll. The salmon was not as good- very plain, really nothing great about it.. just ok. I ordered the salmon with salad and the salad consisted of nothing but iceberg lettuce. Service was decent.

  • Ashley M.

They have the best Clam Chowder in bread bowls ever! $7.50 for it, and my boyfriend and I split one every time 'cause it is so filling. I won't try anyone else's chowder, 'cause I know they have the best.

    (5)
  • Andrew K.

the clam chowder provided a much more substantial start...it was rich and creamy in TASTE, but the generous chunks of clam flesh still had a decent bite...too bad the chowder was a bit watered down. they were the only chowder spot that offered "NESTLE" chowder crackers!!! i was getting scared that "WESTMINSTER" crackers were following me!

This was probably the most cost-worthy delicious restaurant/booth I've been to during my weekend in Boston! Their lobsters are to die for! You get the whole lobster for about $15! It's the softest, most naturally flavored lobster I've ever had! Their cherrystone clams are just like what others have said...amazing!!!! And their oyster shots? Ridiculously and surprisingly delicious!!!!

I ordered the lobster and several fish dinners for friends. To make a long story short....food poisoning. We all became quite ill and the food was quite bad. The servers are very rude and almost no one speaks English. Stay away from Boston and Maine!
