I've told more people aimlessly wandering the streets of Bay Village looking for breakfast when Mike & Patty's is closed about Billy's than any other place. I've eaten here several times and so far I have yet to be disappointed. Billy's a pretty no fuss place. But it is one of the few places in Boston that actually serve a real breakfast--read: pancakes, french toast, homefries, bacon, sausages etc.). And, it is one of the few places that isn't trying to gouge their customers for every penny they can on substandard products. You can walk out of Billy's with a full belly for about $6 for breakfast. Staff is friendly, the place is clean (but kinda of outdated looking). If you are looking for breakfast one morning and have a hankering for some french toast and sausage, there is no better place in town than Billy's.

This place has everything you could ever want in a good breakfast: 1. Serves breakfast late.......like hangover style late. 2. Portions are huge, really huge. 3. It feels like your mom is making it in the back. 4. Slightly spicy and plump sausages. 5. Blueberry pancakes full of blueberries. Okay, well maybe that's everything I want in a breakfast, but I got it all. This is like a little country coffee diner on Berkeley. It seems family owned and operated and was only a ten minute walk from our hotel. We went here on our last morning in Boston and it was less than 20 bucks for the whole meal. If you want something classy, overpriced, swanky or innovative....this is not the place for you. If you want simple delicious and classic breakfast food in a neighborhood setting, give this place a try. I also snuck a peek at someone ordering a philly cheesesteak sammich and it looked amazing!

Great little place i found on the last day of our vacation. I ordered a coffee and bacon egg cheese sandwich and it was great.

My brother and I were staying at a hotel around the corner (Chandler Inn) and stopped in here for lunch on our first day. Delicious food and very affordable. Seemed to be a pretty popular place as while we were sitting there a ton of suits came and went with lunch orders. Great location.

Finally stopped in for lunch and ordered a small Greek salad and added grilled chicken to it. Oh my yum! The chicken was tender (you could pull it apart) and juicy and was seasoned beautifully. The salad was good: iceberg lettuce (no brown bits), olives, egg, feta, onion, cucumber, tomato. But the real star was the Greek dressing! (which I'm told they make themselves) All together, it was an excellent salad. Looking forward to trying one of their sandwiches.

very good for gyro, although sometimes when I order Gyro its a sandwich and sometimes its just a plate of chicken with pita. I prefer the sandwich so make sure you ask

Excellent falafel wrap. Greeks rock...and roll...all night...sweet Suzy.

This will definitely go in the regular rotation of breakfast spots to hit! It has a very friendly, local, cozy atmosphere. Most everyone in there knew the staff and they chit-chatted in a manner where you could tell they had been there many times before. The food was solid. Just as you would expect from this type of place. I had a bacon, egg, cheese breakfast sandwich on a bulky roll and some coffee. It was quick and tasty. Next time I will come here for some of the awesome lunch offerings and give an update.

GO GO GO! Made the trek over here before our Megabus back and what an amazing decision! Got a ham and a bacon egg and cheese sandwich which were delicately toasted, cheesy, very fresh eggy, and amazing. The home fries were actual chunks of potatoes and wow they give you a whole carton! I asked for some hot sauce and a huge to go cup was provided and it was Franks, not watered down as many other breakfast places tend to do. Definitely try it!

Tasty and cheap! Full of construction workers, which is usually a good sign. Hilarious conversations going on around me, including one guy educating his buddies on how eBay works. Definitely not the place to go for an upscale Sunday Brunch--they use disposable flatware and silverware, and they don't have mimosas. But the coffee is good and so is the food.

I have always said that absolutely no one could ever make chili even as good as my mom's let alone better. Well, I can no longer make that claim. Billy's homemade chili is better than my mom's. As much as it pains me to say it... it is true. I guess I should be grateful though. Billy's is right here in my own back yard and my mom and her chili are hundreds of miles away. I am happy for that. However, I am not happy for the fact that when I go home and eat my mom's, still wonderfully delicious but now inferior chili, I will turn to her and say, "best chili in the world mom!" I never lie to my mother. Thanks to Billy's, I do now.

Love this little place! I've had breakfast and sandwiches here. Everything is good. Typical greasy spoon fare, but they do it so well. My favorite is a plain old grilled cheese and tomato sandwich. They do not skimp on portions either. I am a fan of Billy's.

I really like this place. I just moved around the corner from this place they make some great food and quite reasonable prices. Anyplace where you can get a sub for under $7 with good quality and all the fixings is alright in my book. I come here any chance I get...

  • Emilio F.

Billy's is somewhere between 4 and 5 stars. Good coffee, excellent chicken tenders and gyros, fast service, but can get crazy busy around lunch time. Really nice staff too. Pretty reasonable prices and great portions for the South End.

Love this place. One of the few places I can get a bite to eat in the area at reasonable prices. Family owned and operated. Food is fresh. They make it fast. Great salads. Great subs. All around a solid place. Really just great. I would eat here for dinne rover any of the local pizza shops if they were only open (you hear me emilios, south end pizza and nicoles!).

  • Gonzalo B.

Old-School, done right. There should be more of these kinda places around! You won't find any foodie trendy snobs here. Lots of working people...yes, the south end still has some working people! Excellent portions, quick, nice service... When I'm working in the area I'll stop in for an excellent breakfast sangwich, or in the afternoonsie I like their kindly-portioned tuna, I add extra pickles and some sliced cheese, and take it to the job. There's enough in there for an extra half a sangwich and the price is right. They put your takeout sangwich on a paper plate after it's wrapped snug. They put a rubber band around that. They put in a plastic fork so's you can fork-over the hefty parts spilling out over the bread. They give you napkins, as in several. The good stuff, done the ol'-fashioned way.

Amazing subs and just a few steps away from 40 Berkeley where we were staying while in town. Great place to grab lunch to take over to Boston Common for a lunch in the park. We had 2 subs, the steak, peppers and cheese which was overflowing with shredded steak done perfectly (not dry at all) and the Italian which was toasted and stacked with tons of great deli meat and lots of fresh lettuce, tomatoes, pickles etc.

My wife and I were in Boston for the weekend and stayed down the block from Billy's. We would definitely go back if/when we return to Boston and would be regulars if we lived in the neighborhood. We had a great, cheap, quick breakfast 2 of the 3 mornings we were there. The breakfast sandwiches and muffins were great! We also stopped and got muffins to take home with us on our early flight the morning we left. We didn't have lunch but the sandwiches other people ordered looked great. The service was very friendly and excellent!

  • Cam S.

I've driven by this place many, many times and never noticed it until I was looking for a breakfast place on Yelp. Needless to say the 3 egg, bacon, pancakes and fries were how breakfast should be made. If you're hungry check this place out!!

  • Andrea S.

Hangover central. I COULD NOT live without this place. Luckily, I live just above, so as soon as I tear myself from my sheets I'm there. Breakfast is hot, greasy and cheap. The coffee is delicious. You can get a lovely breakfast and coffee for under $5 dollars. Better even than that, I promise you'll feel more like a human on the way out. The employees won't even judge you for your walk of shame clothes, just give you a little wink.

  • Casey J.

Four stars for the huge yummy steak and cheese for $6. FIVE stars for the yummy carrot cake and cheap coffee!

Hot pastrami was delicious. Great for a quick cheap lunch.

  • Mark W.

Great place! They were really nice and had some small talk about the patriots game. For the price they give you a lot. The steak sub with everything is like 6.75 and it's as long as your forearm. Plenty of steak and peppers and mushrooms and cheese. Great place for a quick cheap meal. -- I just stopped by for the falafel and it was cheap and good. It was really cool because while i was waiting for my laundry to dry just around the corner the owners/staff, the ups delivery people that delivers for our area and random people were just sitting having a nice discussion about random stuff. Really great atmosphere

Billy's Greek salads are delish and fresh, especially love their dressing (homemade? not sure, but it's really good) and the soft pita bread completes my lunch. Add some grilled chicken, tuna salad, or even falafel! Family run, nice people....although busy days can deliver moody service and it feels a little like Seinfeld's Soup Nazi episode. But have no fear tomorrow, warm welcomes and smiles are back....and so am I.

Only my second time here, but this is definitiely my go to lunch spot from now on. For those who work in the John Hancock Building and can't find that good mom and pops place, this is for you. Most people would agree that good, cheap, and quick lunch spots are tough to find out in Copley. I worked in the financial district for 5 years and there were an abundance of choices ranging from food trucks, carts, and delis. Out here, while there are a lot of choices, most are sit down places. This is definitely worth the 10 minute walk.

Excellent counter-service Greek-American diner, a quick-service bargain in the South End. "How is it that cops seem to know the best cheap-eats places?", I ask my old friend John, aka "Vanilla Thunder", a 14-year police veteran. "It's simple, MC," he says. "Police officers know most places in town pretty well. When you respond to restaurant break-ins, you get to see how clean or filthy the kitchens are after hours. Cops only get 30 minutes for meals, we don't make a lot of money, and we have to keep fit, so we look for fast, cheap, and healthy. And it's our job to engage with the neighborhood, so most of us prefer mom-and-pop outfits to chains." This explains why I often see cops dining at Billy's Sub Shop, even though the Area D-4 station house moved some years ago from across the street to Harrison Avenue nearly a mile away. With its counter service, laminate booths, plastic tableware, and cafeteria trays, Billy's is short on frills, but the food is cheap, tasty, and fresh. I regularly drop by for soft-scrambled eggs with toast and griddle-crusted home fries ($3.50), plus bacon, ham, or sausage ($1.75), or my preference, an off-menu side of grilled gyros strips ($2.75). The French toast ($4.25) is decent, the pancakes ($4.25) huge and very good, the coffee ($1.30/small; $1.50/medium; $1.70/large) excellent. Billy's may not have the hurly-burly of Mike's City Diner or old-time charm of Charlie's Sandwich Shoppe, but unlike those places, you can reliably finish a hot breakfast here in under 20 minutes or take one away in 10. Huge portions of classic Greek-American sub-shop fare are served at lunch: enormous gyros sandwiches ($5.75) and plates ($8.75) with fine tzatziki; bountiful Greek salads with house-made dressing and soft pita ($4.50/small; $5.50/large); and a variety of long-as-your-forearm subs like steak ($6) and Italian cold cuts ($5.75). Quarter-pound hamburgers ($3) and huge sides of respectable French fries and onion rings ($2.25/small; $3.50/large) are also available. Occasional specials include a mountain of American chop suey with a side salad ($7.95). The ever-present husband-and-wife owners breezily chat with regular customers when it's slow, but sternly keep the lines moving at peak periods, which is just how Boston's finest like it. If you know anything about dining on the cheap, that nod from the BPD should be all the endorsement you need.

It's 8:30A, Saturday, you can't sleep, you're hungover and need carbs STAT. Where do you turn? BILLY'S. My roommates and I are pretty much in love with this place. So in love that 2nd graders would say, "well if you love it, why don't you marry it?" Yeah, it's that kind of love. We live so close, so it's easy to drag ourselves there, but we'd go anyway even if we weren't so close. We normally opt for perfectly made breakfast sandwiches and coffee and split a large order of fries and some pancakes and also down some gingerale. Not only does it hit the spot, but it's really a diner (for all your Jersey kids that bitch and moan about how there are no good diners around here). Only open for breakfast and lunch, they are also a really friendly crowd and the atmosphere is relaxed. No one questions my sweat pant, tshirt, smeared eye liner and lioness-hair attire. Just good food, good people.

I stopped in for the first time with a friend over the weekend in search of breakfast. My friend had heard good things and was eager to try it out. At first things didn't look so good-the sign hanging outside was looking pretty tired as did the inside of the shop, which felt exactly like a place from the 1970's. The kitchen is extremely small and right behind the cash register. We ordered up some french toast and blueberry pancakes with no idea what to expect, but were pleasantly surprised to see that the food looked great. They do very good french toast and the pancakes were large and tasty with tons of fresh blueberries mixed in. Prices are very reasonable, but they oddly price everything individually so there's no combination plates like (eggs, sausage, homefries, toast for example). You have to order each thing separately so you wind up with a potentially average value instead of the anticipated great value looking at the prices. Still they are cheap and the food is good. The cops certainly seem to like them as they piled in while we were there and the service is friendly and casual. I'll be back and I'm looking forward to trying something off the lunch menu.

I love this place. Love it. I work very close to Billy's and they are always reliable for breakfast and lunch. It's definitely diner food and it is delicious. Consistent. And all around satisfying. For breakfast- egg & cheese sandwich on an english muffin. They grill the english muffin with butter which makes it that much worse for my arteries by that much tastier. For lunch- ANYTHING on the menu. They are big, filling, and you just can't go wrong. I like the steak & cheese or the buffalo wrap. Ooh and their hot dogs are amazing! The service is always fast and friendly. It's a family run place, they know all of their customers, and even if they don't know you they are happy to get to know you- no matter how busy they are. Did I mention I love Billy's?

cheap, fast, friendly, and tasty. small, unassuming hole in the wall style. i've tried a lot of cold veggie subs, and billy's has the hands down best in town. decent generic coffee served by people who remember the regulars. only downside: always filled with cops.

I recently started working in the South End, and wanted to find a cheap lunch place amidst a sea of really pricey lunch spots. Billy's was exactly what I was looking for. I've only so far had their chicken caesar wrap, but holy cow, it was delicious! Perfectly drenched (in a good way) in dressing, the chicken was not dry at all, but very tender. Not to mention it was the size of my forearm for only $6. Yes please! I will definitely be a frequent lunch customer.

  • kate P.

BEST PANCAKES EVER. No. Really. They are. And their breakfast is served 'old school'. Nothin' fancy. Just the food. My husband always gets the pancakes. I get a scrambled egg on an English muffin (i'm not a fan of bagels, so any place that serves English muffin's is high on my list).

    (5)
  • Laura C.

Billy's is the perfect place for a breakfast that will soothe the worst of hangovers! The service is great, lots of options and food is never disappointed. Chicken caesar wrap is the best.

I use to go to school at BFIT and just about everyday I went to Billy's. If you are a full time college student with a part time job, you can still afford to eat at Billy's everyday it is that cheap. You can get anything there and you will not be dissapointed and always leave full. Some of my favorites there were the Pulled Pork, Cordon Bleu plate, or the Corn Chowder(creamy w/ good sized chunks of potatoes) The family that works there is very friendly and care very much about the customers. (Students also get discounts which is a great thing.)

Go there all the time for breakfasts/lunches! Great prices and food. I've had anything from their breakfast to pepper steak sub to their chicken gyro all great. Friendly staff too!

Had a delicious steak and onions with cheese sub for lunch. Staff was super friendly. I am definitely going to go back again.

I came here for lunch during work for the Steak sub combo. It was a massive amount of steak for the price they charge! My coworker also got the chicken cutlet which was overstuffed with huge amounts of chicken! I would really like to come here again and try the Greek salad after reading all of the reviews.

all i can say is AMAZING bacon, egg & cheese! the food was delivered to my office so I've never actually been to the physical location but the food was incredible

I was craving a really good simple garden salad with grilled chicken. A couple of people at my work talked about Billy's before but I have never tried it out. Yesterday I decided to walk over to pick up a salad. It's a local family owned breakfast/lunch spot and there's nothing fancy about this place. But the salad was delicious!! I love their dressing which was a cross between Greek and Caesar. The service was fast and they give you 2 pita bread pockets which were fresh. The small salad was enough for me and I will definitely be going there again. I saw subs go by and they also looked really good as well. Next time I might try their gyro or meatball sub! YUM!

  • Keith M.

Reminiscent of any small pizzeria you might stumble into in Arlington, Somerville, or the less populous portions of Cambridge, this coffee shop offers a nice change of pace for what is an otherwise rather pricey and business oriented section of the Back Bay. While not winning any points on decor or originality, this is your best bet if you only have thirty minutes and ten bucks for lunch. $7.50 got me a 20 ounce Pepsi and a foot and half long steak, onion and cheese sub that while not the best I've ever had certainly wasn't the worst. The friendly service and good prices seem to draw in both the the business crowd and the student crowd from neaby Franklin Institute. While not somewhere I would go out of my way for, I doubt it will be the last time I eat here.

  • Lackadaisical N.

haven't tried breakfast there yet, but the lunch is amazing. cash only, otherwise i'd be there more; but can't believe i hadn't tried it before last month working in the vicinity for 3+ yrs. the gyro was 6 bucks or so, delicious, filling and left me craving more. diverse mix of ppl eating here too - usps workers, construction folk, locals, suits, student-types. looks like a family operation, always happy to support local owner-operated places.

I happened upon this place when I was living in Boston for coffee on my way to work. It is totally no-frills and doesn't look very promising but I came back every single day after that because they have a really great selection of brewed flavored coffee (which I really prefer to coffee flavored with syrups) and the people who work there are always super nice. I came back to Boston for a visit recently and decided to pay my favorite coffee spot a visit and get some breakfast too. I had only ever had an occasional muffin before, but I was missing out because their food is just as good as their coffee. I don't know what they put in their pancake batter but they are now competing with my mom for best pancake I've ever eaten. Plus they have both sausage link and patty options, and their prices are so reasonable. For lunch options, they have way more than just the standard BLT, etc... options, too. Totally an example of never judging a book by its cover.

Came here for breakfast when my local diners were at capacity and was pleasantly surprised. Big portions, certainly not fancy, but tasty all the time. Hot sauce on hand for those who, like me, can't have their eggs without it. Yum.

When I get tired of paying high prices for lunch in the Back Bay I head over to Billy's Sub Shop on Berkeley St. in the South End. They have giant salads for cheap bucks and they are not shy about throwing on the feta and extra olives on their Greek salads. $4.50 for their version of a small salada and you're all set. And of course they automatically serve it with pita bread, because like they say, it isn't a Greek salad without pita. There are always a few hot entrees to choose from as well as your typical diner/sub shop fare. Almost always there is a Greek dish to choose from. You'll see: everyone from construction workers to kids hanging out after school.

Such an incredible place run by a really nice family. It's a diner full if cops and firefighters so you know it's great. Super family friendly. Have the curbed beef hash.

Sorry, but I'm not really seeing the hype about this place. I came here with my boyfriend for brunch due to all the raving reviews, but honestly this is just typical diner food. I'm actually confused why this place has a 4.5 star rating? The place is affordable, yes, but it's not like standard breakfast food should be pricier than this anyway. We get in, the restaurant is pretty much a typical diner, which is fine--I'm not the classiest individual out there or anything. I ordered an omelette and my boyfriend ordered what I think was the steak tip sub. My omelette wasn't the best omelette I've ever had or anything, but the portion was large and I was full afterwards. I didn't really like the home fries that came with it though, and I love potatoes with all of my heart. It just wasn't that flavorful. My boyfriend, however, was genuinely confused after getting his meal. What he ended up with is pretty much a Philly cheesesteak. Sorry, but when did steak tip turn out to be shredded beef? It was literally just like a Philly cheesesteak, but worse because he didn't get it with cheese. Whatever, he ate it anyway because he's not a very picky individual, but we kind of had some sort of expectations and it just wasn't met.

  • Judy K.

I love Billy's. The food is homemade, comforting and you can't beat the prices. Breakfast here is the best. I can get an entire diner style breakfast for just over $5! Lunch is not bad either, but I always come to Billy's for their breakfast. Best breakfast options: Corned beef hash with eggs, home fries and toast TOASTED muffin (warm, crispy, buttery and just delicious) Pretty quick service and the lady who usually takes my order is so cute! She doesn't talk much during rush hours obviously, but she's super friendly and makes jokes when there's some leisure time haha. It's a hole in the wall, but Billy's has definitely gotten more popular over the past few months. People are discovering cheap and high quality food here!

This place is straight up legit, no matter if breakfast or the boss turkey dinner or sub! Portions are really good and they are fast and organized. Gets tight during lunch hours but definitely worth it.

  • Ryan R.

Went here with a friend to grab a bite for lunch since I work in the area. We were there during the lunch rush so we waited in the quick-moving line and both ordered the chicken specials. The special came with a piece of chicken and potatoes with greek salad and pita. The portion of food was a decent size and came at a reasonable price (around $10). The service at this place is very friendly and they treat their customers well. There always seems to be a place to seat inside but can be a bit crowded at times. Definitely an option worth checking out for lunch in the neighborhood.

Best lunch deal in town. The go to is a small Billy salad which is a garden salad with grilled chicken I get that with feta and a side of hummus. It comes with dressing which is amazing and pita bread. If you're in the Back Bay and looking for a great lunch at a great price Billy's is the place to go!

  • Isagani C.

A very reliable sub shop. Been eating/ordering here for 20+ years. Their Greek salad is one of the best; my guilty pleasure is their seasoned fries. For breakfast, the blueberry pancakes are definitely recommended.

  • April M.

Not impressed on my most recent experience. As you'll read in my original review, I'm a big fan of the meatball sub, which Billy's had seemingly mastered. Well. Not this time. I was very disappointed with my lunch today. The bread came soggy. The red sauce was metallic tasting (lacking spice) and the meatballs were borderline disgusting. I actually had to spit a bite out and forfeit the end of one sub I was so disgusted. It tasted - OFF. Not fresh. Bad. Frozen and thawed, then frozen and thawed again. And then microwaved. Yuck, yuck, yuck. I'm pretty sad because I love this sub from Billy's. I'm hoping it was just an off day, but I have to report it - it was that bad. I don't know if they were cutting corners or saving costs, but whatever it was that made this sub so bad was really not worth it. I will order from them again - but if it's just as bad next time, that will be my last time ordering at Billy's...

Go to place for a quick bite to eat. Their muffins are AMAZING. Ask for it grilled, you won't be sorry. Breakfast sandwiches are a solid choice. As for lunch, their gyros are surprisingly delicious! Friendly service. Seems like a family owned business so always happy to support them.

  • Joyce L.

If you like hole-in-the-wall places, Billy's is for you. The store sign is faded and the interior decor isn't exactly what I would call "inviting", but their perfectly crisp on the outside but fall-apart soft on the inside corn muffin is TO DIE FOR (not to mention HUGE). I love the muffins here and even though I try to persuade myself that it's time to try something new... I always end up ordering the corn muffin. I am detracting one star because their coffee is always so watery, but there's a 7-11 right next door, so no biggie!

    (4)
  • Clark G.

a fan of the blueberry pancakes as they were fluffy, fresh and plentiful coffee just ok as it's green mountain hospitable folks as they'll bust balls w/locals and keep the line movin as folks come in / out during the lunch rush

  • David M.

Yup there is still a cheap eats friendly place in the South End. Leftover from the pre-gentrification era Billy's offers a taste of the old South End good food with reasonable prices. Really nice people who recognize you when you return. Enjoy.

  • Pete S.

Came here on a Friday morning and got exactly what I was looking for, breakfast pancakes; however, I've had much better pancakes. Although the serving size was quite large, the pancake was very unevenly cooked. Some parts were crispy while the center was still wet and gooey. Maybe I should have just got a sub?

    (2)
  • Richard R.

Very friendly staff. Family run. STEAK TIP SUB IS TO DIE FOR. Long line, but it moves fast so don't get discouraged when you show up. Only complaint, and this is a stretch, it there is limited seating and the line ends up snaking around a bit, but that should be expected. I definitely need to come back for Breakfast.

Billy's is my favorite place to have lunch while at work, and I was reminded why that is true today after stopping in for the first time in way too long. Immediately upon entering the two who work the counter greeted me warmly, saying it was nice to see me again and asking how I was. Now, I haven't been in Billy's in months, possibly a year, for reasons I am now baffled by. They also still remembered my usual order, and had it going for me as we chatted. The speed at which they get your order up rivals any fast food establishment. But this is no fast food establishment. This is real cooked food, with homemade, fresh ingredients. Is it simple food? Yes, and I like that. It's food mom would make for lunch, like franks and beans, deli sandwiches, and grilled meats with homemade marinades. The highlights for me though are their feta, pita, and greek dressing. The feta is the creamiest feta I've ever had, and unlike most places, they pile it on like there is no tomorrow. The pita is so fresh - soft, chewy, who knew just something as simple as pita could be so desirable. Finally, the dressing, I don't even know what to say. Many a friend and I have had endless debates over what is in the dressing. Whatever it is, it works. So yeah, get the greek salad or the "Billy's" as they call it. The lettuce is really just a vehicle for the amazing grilled chicken, feta, dressing, and pita.

A little hole in the wall in the south end. If it weren't so hot the day I went, I would've had a breakfast buffet, but instead I went with their Italian sub (thinking it wouldn't be too filling). And wow! Do they put Subway to shame. My sub was loaded, I could barely fit it in my mouth. But it was delicious. Nisreen G. got a chicken salad sub and I couldn't believe how much they piled on, she needed to use a fork! The woman behind the counter was sweet and let us fill up our water bottles for no charge. Definitely a place to check out if you're in the neighborhood and have a big appetite.

I had breakfast here with a friend recently. The meal was OK for a greasy spoon - certainly nothing outstanding, unique or gourmet about the place. The atmosphere is tired cafeteria style - alright if you want to be low key. The real issue was the price - a bit of a shocker. For two breakfasts (an omelet and hash & eggs with coffee) the bill was just shy of twenty dollars. I thought that was a pretty penny for the quality of the food and the setting. Next time I'd just assume eat at a nicer place for a few bucks more or head over to Mike and Patty's (if you can stand the crowd). Of course the Berkeley Perk (just a few doors down from Billy's) is way cheaper with much better beverages. Their menu is not as extensive and they are not open on Sundays. Definitely disappointed with Billy's.

I work right near here and I probably have picked up lunch here on average 1-2 times a week. I love the Greek family that works here, they're so funny and sweet and the husband and wife joke around with each other all the time. I feel like some places go light on things like condiments and servings because they want to make sure that you're only getting what you pay for and nothing more but Billy's is much more generous. Definitely a staple in my weekly work routine!

Working in Back Bay, there's a ton of lunch options. Most of them are super expensive and meeeeeh. Billy's is my go-to spot when I forget my lunch at home. The Greek salads with chicken rock my world, so do the chicken Caesar wrap and falafel wrap. On the days I want to gorge, the steak and cheese subs are awesome too. In the world of way overpriced, over commercialized Back Bay this place stands out.

I went here for breakfast on Saturday and was pleasantly surprised! This is great for what it is--a local diner with plastic silverware, plastic trays, and paper coffee cups. I had some wonderfully scrambled eggs, and a great conversation with the woman behind the counter (so lovely!). It was super cheap, super fast, and had a fun range of people from the neighborhood (construction workers, hipsters, and hungover 22 year olds). I'll definitely be back, it's perfect for a low key catch up with friends.

Huge Billy's fan! I work right down the street and it seems like most of the customers here are from my building or the hostel across the street. My regular order is a falafel wrap, no tzatziki. Amazing falafel, tabouli, and hummus. I also occasionally get homefries in the morning that are out of this world. Fries are typical sub shop fries, which is the only thing I would change about Billy's if I could. Some people love those fries, but I pass on them. The family that owns/runs the place is awesome and they're all super friendly. I could see being intimidated if I weren't a regular, because it can get busy and loud in there, but everyone is really nice. Now that I have visions of falafel balls dancing in my head, I think I know what I'm having for lunch.

Great place for diner style breakfast, friendly lady that preps and cooks all the good! Exceptional amount of food for the price! The blueberry pancakes were definitely a big hit!

Sunday morning. Great hole in the wall breakfast place. 5 minutes from order to eat. The place fills up quick for breakfast. Suggest 8th as a good time to eat before the crowds decend. Boston police are eating here!! That means good food and it is safe!!! Easy walk from Park Plaza Hotel....

This is the epitome of the perfect family run breakfast & lunch shop. The food is great, the servings large, the prices fair, all served by the smilingest family I know. I love this place. (super kid friendly too)

This little local place is absolutely incredible. I had breakfast here in April 2014, and the customer service was fantastic. Our food was ready so quickly! They had some of the most delicious bacon I'd ever eaten. Additionally, I couldn't believe how much food we received or how cheap their prices were. If I lived near here, I'd be eating here constantly.

First time in boston and after reading the good reviews for this place I decided to give it a try.. The food was reaalllllly good and cheap. It wasn't so busy so me and my best friend got out food right away and they were so nice. This place is a must !!

Got the chocolate chip pancakes and the serving was huge. Definitely enough food for two people. For the price, I felt like I was getting a steal. They weren't the best pancakes I've ever had, but they were satisfying. Also had the steak sandwich which was okay. It was served like a philly cheesesteak, but maybe a little on the dry side. I do want to go back and try their egg sandwich. With their prices, it's a great place to go.

Tried gyro here...first time for both. Someone else recommended...I shouldn't have listened! Probably should have taken hint since the sign said coffee. Subs and coffee? Anyhow, seemed Greek owned by pictures of Greece on the wall. However, I can't imagine any Greek would eat the gyro I had today. More like a pita filled with flattened(frozen) mystery meat. I guess you can't expect succulent lamb from a coffee/sub shop. Best part of the sub...lettuce, tomato were fresh.

Great place for lunch. You get fresh and good quality food for a decent price. They are always generous with their portion. You must try the grilled cesaer wrap or salad. Grilled chicken fresh to order and always juicy. Nice daily specials....such as the american chop suey. Every time I get this, they give so much of it that I end up having a ton for leftover for dinner or lunch.

Totally hit the spot!!! We flew into Boston in the early AM and were starving. Our hotel recommended this place for breakfast and I am so glad she did! I got two eggs which came with potatoes, sausage (3 large links) and a coffee for about 8 bucks. It was filling and JUST what I wanted. It's nothing fancy but what I like because it tastes homemade and feels comfortable. It was so good we ended up coming back on our last day too. I wish this place existed back home!!

Place wasn't bad I had ordered their French toast and bacon on the side. Only gripe was the syrup was watery. I felt weird as hell! Otherwise the place is good. Decent prices. Good breakfast food. I was satisfied

I love eating where the locals eat, and this is one of those places. Very reasonable prices and very good food. It's a very casual place but friendly and fast! Girls had waffles and French toast. They were delish!

B'fast is over rated on yelp as if this review. Typical, avg diner quality. The epitome of what 3 stars should be.

Super friendly, fair pricing, great portions, good quality! These guys are family owned they have a nice selection of food for breakfast and lunch and have daily specials. They have a variety of breakfast and lunch food. The prices are fair and the staff is great. Ice coffee is very good as well! Always have a smile on their face and the quality of materials is always there. Hard to find a time with no customers as they are so popular but even so service is great! Very very hard working staff and were even open during snow storms! Definitely deserve the five stars!

so mediocre I don't understand what the hype is about? came here for breakfast, they were out of home fries and offered french fries.. who wants french fries in the morning..? ordered the omelette and blueberry pancakes. I could make a better omelette .. pancakes were fluffy I guess but wasn't necessarily yummy

YUMMY! Finally a bacon, egg and cheese where the egg is fried and not microwaved!!! Delicious sandwich on a fresh, soft roll, totally coming back. Had the home fries which were good and they gave us a very generous helping, however they lacked flavor and spice. A little bland. As we were leaving, the lunch time rush hour was gearing up and many people were ordering the grilled chicken salad, which looked delicious.

I order a steak combo (steak and cheese with mushrooms, onions, and green peppers). Food took longer than I expected and it didn't seem like the staff knew what was going on. I have seen this restaurant at better days. I got their just in time before the lunch rush occurred, and for that I was thankful.

Perfect hangover cure. My mushroom and cheese omelet was delicious, huge, and reasonably priced. Their home fries were perfectly cooked and some of the best I've ever had! I can't wait to go back and try more of the menu.

Literally everything that a hungover Sunday morning needs! If you want greasy, salty, tasty, neverwashedthegriddlein25years kind of place, come to Billys! I used to eat a few different things from here; egg sandwich, cold sub, etc - but I will forever order the hot pastrami sub with cheese mustard and mayo henceforth. oh. my. delicious. heart. attack. We've all been on the Sunday morning death train, and Billy's pastrami sub makes me look forward to 'tying one on' as soon as my BAC drops back into the legal limit. Be forewarned, this is not a healthy sandwich joint. This is all that you want it to be but are afraid to admit to your friends. Go. Go right now. You need this.

I'm in a food coma as I write this, which means that this place gets five stars. I woke up this morning craving something hearty, filling, but somehow at least pretend nutritious at the same time. Knowing that a lot of take out places in my immediate vicinity aren't open on weekends (they're only open for the Mon-Friday work crowd), I looked on Yelp for something open at 9 AM on a Sunday. Here's why I like them: 1) Low-key and unpretentious in terms of style 2) Friendly staff 3) Cop car double parked outside the place -- you KNOW it's good when the police eat here 4) They take debit and credit! What a concept in this day and age for cheap dining establishments to take plastic! 5) Tasty, filling, cheap food. I had the steak combo sandwich ($7.44 with tax) with peppers, mushrooms, and melted cheese. The bread is really soft, which I prefer over the crusty rolls of Vietnamese subs by far. It was a little greasier than I'd like, but I think the fattiness is probably why it tasted so good. It's a great value, especially for a shop located on the fringe between the South End and Back Bay! Here's a link to their online menu: boston.menupages.com/res…

This is your quintessential greasy spoon in the South End. Billy's was calling my name for weeks. Each day I'd walk by and get a feeling I should go in... but I never did. Usually I'd head next door for something a bit "fancier". And then one day I spotted someone's Bacon Egg and Cheese sitting deliciously in the front window and realized I could no longer ignore the urge! They make a GREAT egg sandwich! The way any good egg sandwich should be made.... with the bread toasted and buttered and the egg fried right there on the spot. "Don't judge a book by it's cover" rings true with this little gem. Stop in for breakfast or lunch. It's a no frills setting, but you get your food fast and leave wonderfully satisfied.

I originally found out about this place from tun.com advertising a 10% student discount. I figured, what the hey, I'll give it a try. I decided to go there for breakfast before class, and it was great! Their bacon egg and cheese sandwich is just what every student needs before that dreaded 8am class. The staff was friendly and didn't seem offended at my morning grogginess and lack of speaking skills. I plan to go back there to test their lunch menu. Here's hoping it's as good as breakfast!

Big props for cheap big portions. A point off for bland home fries and canned (hormel) hash.

Definitely serves it's purpose as a nice, convenient spot to grab breakfast after a night out and/or early rise. I was staying nearby and decided to stop through based on the reviews. I'll have to come back before my trip is over to try the French toast. it's nothing fancy if that's your thing, but the smaller scale mom & pop type spots are what I tend to prefer.

I went here looking to try a sandwich without going to a chain restaurant. The reviews seemed to show that this was a premium place. I was not impressed. I ordered a crab sandwich. It was okay, but there were very few vegetable toppings to choose from (like at the chain restaurants). It was the kind of sandwich that fills your belly, but underwhelms your taste buds. I noticed that everyone that went here ordered breakfast sandwiches and the like. Perhaps I should have ordered the neighborhood special. However, I cannot recommend this place as a premium sandwich shop based on my experience.

The first time I walked into Billy's, I walked out. The line was out the door. I wish I had waited though cause man those Greek salads looked insane and I love myself a Greek (salad.) I have to say though, that had I not caught that salad out of the corner of my eye as I was walking out the door, I probably wouldn't have come back. I mean the average hole in the wall usually ends up being pretty fantastic, but Billy's is literally a hole in the wall....okay that actually doesn't make any sense... not literally. Let's just say Billy's has not won any points with me based on their decor. I have to say though (and forgive me if this doesn't make any sense) but if it was the size of your average take-out place I don't know that I would have thought anything of it. For some reason, when I think to myself "sub shop" I guess I just think of something a little...newer? Okay, I'm sorry I feel like I am sounding a bit obnoxious right now. I am merely saying it was not what I was expecting the first time I walked in there. Anyway, let's move on to the important part: the food. I got two eggs and a bagel (I would have liked to get the Greek salad, but I didn't think it was an appropriate hangover meal.) It was your standard size and level of delciousness. I totally got hooked up with some home fries though. Yum! They were crispy and well-seasoned and needed very little ketchup to do them justice. I also tried my friend's french toast which was extra eggy as well as a mushroom and cheese omelet which was also extra eggy. Hahaha. (Okay, now I know I am writing this way too late at night.) The best part though was the price. For the amount and quality of food, it was very reasonable. Like I said, I got two eggs, a bagel, a small hill of home fries and an ice tea (my hangover non-alcoholic drink of choice) for $5. It does seem as though Lunch is the time to go to Billy's. I think we are headed there this week. I'll let you all know how it goes... Greek Salads here I come!
