Have yet to have dinner here but so far I enjoy the wine list, lounge space in the bar, pizzas, oysters, bone marrow, cheese plate- and the service is excellent! Will definitely go for dinner soon.

Amazing food, amazing atmosphere, amazing drinks...I love the setup of this place - one of the best in the city. My wife and I constantly come here for a quick bite, and end up sitting at the bar for hours.

Went to Bastille Kitchen with a colleague and a client the second night of opening. We are all very impressed with the whole experience, from the hostess, to the wait staff through the cocktails and the food. We were expecting hiccups and mis-steps given it was only the second night, but everything was flawless. Not to mention the ambiance and the design of the entire space! Definitely would recommend it!

I hesitate to leave a great review for Bastille kitchen because everybody will be coming here and squeeze me out and make me wait until 11 o'clock for dinner like they did at Row 34. But Bastille deserves it, the food was exquisite tonight, This time I had the beef rib Wellington with foie gras - huge slabs of fresh product. Holy Fucking fuck it was good. Perfection! The vanilla butter poached lobster is also absolutely exquisite which I had last week. The bar is also very deep with all the mixings for great cocktails. I sit at the bar and they have hired good barmaids too, I love this place!

The restaurant is beautiful. The night we were there was over 80 outside and their air conditioning didn't work. The service was good but under staffed. We waited almost an hour after we were served to see a waiter to get our check. There was no offer of coffee or dessert. Everyone enjoyed their meals . I ordered salmon and revived perch! Quinoa without apricot and it was full of them. I didn't say anything but it was obvious the waiter knew they really made a mistake.

This past weekend we had our engagement party at Bastille and it was absolutely everything we wanted it to be. We started with dinner in the private dining room with immediate family only. Between the 11 of us we ordered about 5 meals of which I sampled 4. I can easily say that the Short Rib Wellington was my favorite. It was absolutely out of this world. The scallops were incredible, and giant! The poulet was delicious and easily cut with a butter knife. The steak frites was perfect with emphasis on how tasty the fries are. The only dish I didn't try that was on the table was the pork chops that were raved about. Our server Nick was fantastic. He did a great job of taking care of us and adding personality to the service without being too present. When the dinner was over we went down to the Chalet Lounge which we had reserved for our party for 3 hours. We had a manager present to help direct the flow of the evening and the servers were fantastic. We had the cheese board, passed hors d'oeuvres, and a dessert table. The hors d'oeuvres were all amazing and I was happy to see them being snatched up quickly. Two times during the night crashers were noticed but with so many people coming and going from the room it would be near impossible for the restaurant to police the door. I give this place a resounding 5 stars for service, attention to detail, and of course the food. Bastille Kitchen would be great for a date night, a girls night out, or a group dinner, however if you are looking for a unique venue for a private party where the service is outstanding you should definitely check them out.

Surprised by how much I liked this place. Comfortable and very spacious interior. Staff were very friendly and food was good. The lighting was a little dark but I think that's the ambiance they are going for. I would definitely eat here again!

I'm from California and had the pleasure of dining at Bastille Kitchen this past weekend when I was visiting Boston. I can honestly say this was one of my favorite dining experiences I've ever had. We started with cocktails which were very tasty and moved to a bottle of DuMol Pinot noir with dinner, the wine list is outstanding. My favorite among the appetizers we tried was by far the dry aged steak tartare. For the entrees we chose the scallops, beef short rib Wellington, and prosciutto-wrapped cod. All were very tantalizing on the taste buds however the scallops we're my favorite. Probably the best scallops I've ever had and I've been eating scallops for years at many high end establishments, I would definitely recommend that dish to any food lover out there. We ended with the creme brûlée, a perfect end to a wonderful culinary adventure. Not only was the food amazing but the service shined just as brightly. We had the pleasure of dining with Nick whom was knowledgable, welcoming, and very accommodating. The host greeted us with friendly smiles and took our coats which is always a nice touch. Needless to say I will definitely be back and plan on making Bastille Kitchen a must whenever I visit the boston area.

I came here for a dinner. The size of the place is quite impressive. Lounge on the lower floor (frankly a bit basementy for my tastes). The dining area was on the upper floor. The decor was very attractive, kind of a bricky chic. Dinner was OK. Nothing bad with it, just not really memorable. That was the same perception of the person I was dining with. Service was slow. Do I regret going? no. Would I go again? no.

Needs work. Overall rating on here is spot on at 3.5 stars. We arrived right at our reservation time and our table was supposedly not ready as others have indicated. I think this is a ploy to get people drinking at the bar. While the cocktails are good, i'll go to the bar if i wish to, not because i am being schemed into it. THiRTY minutes later i still had not heard from hostesses. They quickly lied and said they had texted me at my number, i received no text and still have not received a text. My summary: The BAD: - hostesses are dimwits, seriously, there are good hostesses and there are bad. As the name implies: some make you feel hosted, others make you feel like they're processing cattle. - no valet service at a supposedly premium restaurant. Yes, there's a garage around back but that kills the sense of arrival and you still have to go around a dark alley to get there. - the appetizer prices are really outrageous for what you get. We got the Salade Frisee aux Lardons which was fairly good, the Watercress Salad was not great, but neither warranted their low to mid teens price tags. - the service, particularly support staff, meant well but was very aggressive and had an approach more suitable for a TGI Friday's than this place. I'd hire them in a heartbeat, no kidding, if i owned a TGI, just not fitting for here. - while the restaurant is beautiful, the high ceilings and sparse seating make it feel a little cavernous. It pulled off intimacy to a certain extent but the restaurant definitely does not feel "alive" and i don't believe would have had it been full, which it never was on a Saturday night during prime dining hours (don't see this place making it). - the service staff was good but perfunctory in completing its tasks - from bartender to server. The GOOD: - the entrees were truly good, though hefty in price, the portions were copious and very flavorful. I had the bacon wrapped cod and she had the scallops, both were incredibly good. - good wine list and the sommelier/manager was clearly an expert at his trade.

Went to Bastille Sat night. For a restaurant that just opened, it did not miss a mark. Every dish ordered was delicious and made to perfection. My table had the mussels which was so decadent and smoky, seafood agnolotti - perfect starter with a delectable sauce. For entrées we had the lamb shank, beef shortrib Wellington. Not sure which was my favorite because they were both so incredibly good. I would definitely go back there to try the rest of the menu!

Had dinner on a week night...atmosphere and service were excellent. However all our food arrived luke warm, even our after dinner coffee. The dining room is one big open space and I'm not sure where the kitchen is...but guessing is a good distance away from where I was seated.

The place is pretty new, and it feels that way. Had dinner in the lounge last night. The cocktails are good but they skew very sweet. The food was a little pricey for what it was and a little spotty. The pork-and-chicken liver rillette was excellent, as were the mussels. However, they really ought to give you some real bread because the broth they come in is great, but all they give you is this one quarter-inch slice of bread that might as well be a cracker. It's a crime to throw away what's pretty much a full bowl of soup. The steak frites came cooked medium well (we ordered it "as the chef prefers" so maybe the chef preferred to focus on something else?) but it was still tender and had good flavor. The frites were rather oily and a bit bland. The short rib Wellington was fairly good though the presentation with three seared carrots was a bit try-too-hard. The potatoes it came with were also salted a little unevenly--one bite would have very little, the next was a salt lick. As for the service, our server was very friendly and clearly a bit busy, but I got the impression this was her first fine-dining gig. No big mistakes but just a little off. All in all a decent place that will hopefully smooth out as it matures.

I was so underwhelmed by this place. We sat in the lounge area because no tables were available. Service was non-existent and the food was just mediocre. The decor looked like something out of a Pottery Barn catalogue. On the way out we peeked inside the downstairs lounge- it looked much cooler. If I ever come back, that's where I'll head.

First impression was great, place is impressive with nice attention to details.Food was ok to good, but whole experience suffered from lack of service, honestly non existence of service sometimes. We have to flag down server to get fork and knife while our dish was on the table,we had to wait 15 min for him to take credit card and to add insult to injury both me and my husband didn't sleep half night, something was wrong with food. I don't think we ready to give them one more chance.

My favorite thing on the menu is the Onion soup with the fried egg on top. Funny enough, they use the Julia Child's recipe --- so thank you Julia Childs. We had the short rib puff pastry and the saute sole which were dynamic pieces. The broth on the sole was absolutely delish and the sole was cooked perfectly. My only ding were the overly salty side of broccoli rabe which came out half way through our meal and the lack of bread while we were waiting for our food. The atmosphere is certainly great for groups and dates. Certainly, the onion soup alone will keep me coming back.

Definitely not the best French cuisine in the city. I would give it 3.5 stars based on the excellent service but the food was just okay. Came here on restaurant week with 5 other girls. Some of us ordered from the restaurant week menu, I ordered off the regular menu. The Onion soup, although interesting, lacked something. I can't explain what it is but my sister also ordered it and agreed it wasn't the best she's had. The egg on touch is a nice touch though. 5 of us ordered the steak frites and 3 of us had to send them back. We all ordered medium well but those steaks were still moo-ing when they first came out. They did cook us all new steaks and it came out right the second time around. The service really did make the night though. If you come here, definitely ask for Nick. He's excellent at what he does and went out of his way to make sure we were all happy. Not sure if I'd be back here, maybe for a quick drink to soak in the amazing atmosphere but there are better options for food nearby.

If I had to sum up our dinner in one word, it would be inconsistent. Beef Wellington was truly delicious. Pork chop was horrible, nicely cooked but topped with the WORST sauce we'd ever tasted. Appetizers of grilled watermelon salad and brandade beignets were tasty, but the chocolate mille feuille we had for dessert was boring and uninspired. Our side of broccoli rabe had a strange, gasoline-like aftertaste. Beautiful space, attentive service, but I don't know if we'll be back.

Food: 3.5 Stars...Onion Soup gruyère crouton, sunny side up egg - Looked delicious and smelled great. The egg worked very well with the oniony flavor of the soup. Although the breading was a bit too soggy for my taste. The initial wow from the egg yoke oozing into the soup was nice but the flavor soon turned regular and it tasted fairly normal $10.00 5 Stars...Beef Short Rib Wellington foie gras, glazed carrots, pommes fondant - Amazing...simply good. First off, there were 3 potato stacks that were topped off with some outstanding foie gras. There were two flaky breaded, well portioned beef short ribs that definitely was very filling. The beef itself was tender and juicy, full of flavor and just the right deep pinkish color. The buttery flaky breading that enclosed all the meat sealed in all that wonderful flavor. $38.00 5 Stars...Grand Crème Brûlée brown butter financier, candied orange supreme - The brittle burnt sugary caramel surface reflected a nice glaze and crackled a bit as I dug my fork into its yellowy egg custard goodness. The slight tang of the grand marnier gave it a nice little tang that brought out the sweetness of the custard while proportionately leveling off the slight bitterness of the caramel. Overall, a great finish that had me wanting seconds. $9.00

Considering the reviews on yelp, I would've expected more. For starters, if I wanted frozen food with artificial grill marks, I would've stopped at McDonald's. Nothing felt fresh. The atmosphere left much to be desired. Whoever was in charge of the music kept changing the volume, and the temperature was almost always too hot or too cold. With that, and the clear lack of creativity in the decor (looks like you ripped a page out of a pottery barn catalog), I will not be returning, nor will I suggest this place to friends.

Gorgeous space, friendly service, disappointing food. Sure, I'll order a $24 omelet. If done right even a simple dish can be a wonderful experience. In this case, I was wrong. Tasted nothing but garlic and parsley. Mussels were delicious but the bread that accompanied the dish was slathered in aioli sauce that completely overpowered the delicate flavor of the seafood. Skirt steak was OK, but fries overseasoned. I think. After the omelet all I could taste for the rest of the day was garlic.

The place is very spacious and has great atmosphere for romantic dinners. It is also great for a large group for nice birthday dinners. The scallop here is amazing! if you want to go for cheaper option the flat breads are good, although the portion is relatively small. I was able to get the flat breads for half price and oysters for $1! The restaurant usually promotes the happy hour / special deals on twitter so make sure to check on that! I would come here again for romantic dinner.

I was astonished at how lively Bastille Kitchen was when we arrived for a relatively early $38 Dine Out Boston (previously known as Boston Restaurant Week) dinner. And it wasn't just the after work crowd at clustered at the bar. The tables in the dining room were rather well filled as well! Upon entering the doors on Melcher Street, we found ourselves in an open space with two cushioned chairs at the foot of a flight of stairs. For the physically disabled they do have an elevator. Good thing, since the bathrooms are located in the basement. Bastille Kitchen is quite large with a long bar and a number of low grouped seating areas in the lounge area, and an even longer spaced lined with tables and short booths on the other side of a low dividing wall. Croissants occupied their bread basket and were accompanied by a spread that in my opinion was not at all necessary. Though I tend to low carb (okay, attempt to), I gobbled up my one tender and airy croissant and unabashedly asked for more despite the fact that the appetizers had made their way to the table by then. The Onion Soup, greyere crouton, sunny side up egg $10 made up quite a picture and was tasty to boot. The bitterness of the Grilled Radicchio & Endive, roasted carrots, glazed plums, honey yogurt dressing $11, however, was not quite to my taste. For entrees, we shared the Prime Skirt Steak Frites, bastille butter, bearnaise, fries $28 and the Horseradish Crusted Salmon, haricot vert, balsamic onion, potato puree, au jus ~$27. Both were satisfactory, yet nothing special. Dessert, however, was just the opposite! The Creme Brulee, pistachio financier, berries was quite good - I particularly enjoyed the rich nutty cakelike cookies, as financiers tend to be. But the Chocolate Mousse Parfait, oatmeal crumble, chantilly was outstanding. Quite a surprise to one who isn't a chocolate fiend. It was more like a chocolate parfait, and the oatmeal crumble added a wonderful textural contrast to the rich mousse. If you like, they have closet space by the host station at which they can store your jacket. They also validate parking at the Necco parking lot, reducing the parking cost to $5.

Went here with a friend to grab a bite to eat for dinner on a weeknight. It was later in the evening so we were seated right away in the main dining room. To start off, they served us rolls with butter that were quite tasty--we may have even gotten a second basket it I remember correctly. For our appetizer, we decided to go with the french onion soup at the recommendation of other Yelpers. This was a classic french preparation with an egg on top that was done well and satisfied my french onion soup craving. The real star of the meal was the short rib wellington. WOW--was this dish tasty--maybe even the best bite I have had in Boston thus far. The outside was so flaky and buttery and the inside was so tender and flavorful, it was quite the stellar combination. I demanded that my friend have a bite and he was blown away as well. I do have to say there were a couple of carrots on my plate that were inedible and almost pushed this down to 4-stars, but the wellington made up for that. We finished the meal with the chocolate mousse parfait, which was a tasty, light option for dessert that was the perfect finish to the meal. During the meal, we had a couple of drinks each, but I can't say I was too impressed or excited by their cocktail menu, especially in comparison to some other Boston restaurants. As you can see, this place has some shortcomings, but the friendly staff and that short rib do more than enough to make up for it. If you're in Boston, I highly recommend checking this place out--if only for the short rib--it's worth the trip.

I headed here after speaking on a Digital Foodies panel with General Assembly several nights ago. Enjoyed (per usual) with several large glasses of pinot noir in order of favorite to least; Frisee aux lardons; duck confit, poached egg, sherry vinaigrette, duck lardons (so delicious and the vinaigrette is so delicious you will want to bathe in it I promise.) Escargots (fava beans, mushrooms, parsley pistou and grilled baguette for dipping) (this may actually have been #1, I shoveled this down faster than was ladylike but they were that good, definitely rivaling Bar B's.) Baby beets; beet curd, upland cress, spiced pecans, middlebury blue cheese Gnocchi a la Parisienne; mushroom bisque, spinach, gruyere We sat at the bar, had great service, the decor is stunning (love exposed brick) I will certainly be back.

We ordered the porterhouse for 2. The meat was seasoned and chief beautifully with roasted asparagus and tomatoes beneath it. The mushroom sauce was perfect and the roasted potatoes were awesome. We had a waitress named Kelly. She was friendly and very knowledgeable. She was a pleasure to chat with.

Bastille recently started a Sunday brunch and it is amazing! Great seafood, salads, sweets (pancakes, waffles, french toast, etc.). I recommend the mini croissants -- they are covered with cinnamon, sugar, and a citrus-lavendar glaze. The waffles are also great, and I really loved the baby kale salad with chicken. I think the ambience is perfect for brunch and the venue is large and great for groups! Plenty of parking -- valet, a few lots nearby, and street parking.

I came here for the Zagat 30 under 30 party and it was fantastic. The coctails and food were amazing (I have to assume that's how they always are--why make things better for one night?) and the decor inside was great for the event. Good to see that they can change a restaurant/bar into a place to have a event where most people will be standing easily (I assume it was easy because it looked great). I don't recall the cocktail name but it had St Germain and I believe French or Paris in the title. They were making them strong! I hope they always do! The caprese sandwich was to die for--roasting a tomato before slicing and putting it on the sandwich? Brilliant! There were some other great foods, but that one stood out. Staff were nice and seemed to be having a good time too, which always makes the event more fun.

My friend wanted to try this place and I had actually never heard of it so I had no preconceived notions going in. The space is awesome. big and roomy decorated very nicely. The bartender was good and didn't flinch when I went off menu. They seemed well stocked. My food was good but it didn't rock my world especially for the cost. I got the soup and a flat bread. soup was 3 1/2 stars flat bread was 3. Service was very attentive and friendly. I would come back here if I was in the area to sit at thier bar and have a cocktail or two.

Dejected from being turned away from Blue Ginger (yet again), my friend and I ventured over to Bastille as a consolation prize. It was not a consolation prize. It was a win. I loved the ambience and the attention to detail - even the silverware was gorgeous! The staff was so respectfully attentive and soft-spoken! Soon after we sat, we received some croissants - they were warm, buttery, flaky, light - they were ALL the good adjectives. I got the lamb duo and my friend got the steak frites - as soon as we delved into our meal, our eyes dilated and we exclaimed how good it was through (possibly inappropriate) murmurs (that might be hyperbole). The lamb was so scrumptious - my mouth is watering as I'm typing this. It was paired perfectly with asparagus that was crunchy and tasty and cooked to perfection, and with a white sauce with rotund grapes. Oh man, I'm actually happy Blue Ginger was so busy - this was a meal that I'm glad I didn't miss.

Went here to celebrate a friends birthday. We booked a reservation (a must), this place gets packed quick. Wicked friendly service, the waitress was super knowledgeable and the decor is So modern. I love the light fixtures and the seating chairs are unique. All Very comfy than those standard restaurant chairs. The restroom is super clean and big, very antique like. We ordered the escargots, not the typical ones I have had, but pretty decent. Main course for me was the beef wellington, very Good and hearty. I love the various carrots it came with. The beef was tender and juicy and the pastry puff around it was Just perfect. Also had the gnocchi, tasteful and not too heavy. We ordered Lamb shank as well and it was served with grits. I don't like grits but this was Good. The Lamb wasn't gamey at all either. Then another shareable item was the flatbread with fried oysters. This was delicious!!! I love the bread, so crisp and addictive. The bread served was mini crossiants with this pate like spread. Not sure what it is but it was good. Also had a Nice bottle of white wine. Very light and crisp. I would love to go back and try other foods.

Wow! Walked in, went up the stairs, to a wonderfully long room with brick walls, old-feel lighting, wooden floors and nice tables lit with real candles! Hostess was extremely nice, taking coats/bags first and then showing me to the table. For a group of 4, waiter was truly amazing as he was always refilling our water and recommending the best drink pairings, bringing bread and explaining the taste of each dish particularly well. It's always a good sign when the waiter has tried everything and has an honest opinion! We shared the Dry Aged Steak Tartare (quail egg, fried pickles, mustard aïoli) which was one of the best I've had, Duck Confit (pickled beet greens, butternut squash purée, cranberry relish), Pork Belly-Chicken Liver Rillettes (house pickles, grain mustard), Salmon Tartare followed by flatbreads. Then we tried the Tomato Pistou and Pork Belly option and the Bacon Jam, Apple Compote, Vermont Cheddar one. Delicious and filling! Night cannot be over without excellent dessert, and here too, the options were delicious! Definitely going to be coming here again, trying out main courses, and pairing with whichever drinks the waiter recommends. I highly suggest coming here!

I have been meaning to come here for a while since I was supposed to interview to be a server here when they first opened (I ended up at my current restaurant instead). Came in for a reservation for 2 at 8:30 on a Monday night. Was decently busy and we were able to sit at our table early. They gave us the choice of two different tables which I really loved since it was between a banquet and a free standing table in the middle. I think giving a guest preference on a slower night is great so the guests don't have to ask for a different table. Raw Bar: A Started with shrimp and oysters and cocktails. I had a Tahitian something which was fun and fruity, but still sophisticated enough. My friend had a cocktail with lavender, honey and gin which was wonderful. Raw bar was excellent and they also sent us a complimentary salmon tartar. A tiny bit salty but I think it was from the capers so I'm all about it. Switched to 2011 Produttori Barbaresco for the rest of the meal. Appetizers: A+ Next was my dry-aged steak tartare. I always get tartare but this was a MUST when I was it was dry aged. Wonderful dish and I would pay for it and enjoy the whole thing to myself again any day. The dry aging of the steak, as expected, added a wonderful richness and robustness to a dish which is normally more about texture and the flavor of the other ingredients. My favorite steak tartare so far. My dining partner had the beet salad which looked lovely. Entrees: B+ For my entree I enjoyed the scallops. The celeriac puree was a bit rich and creamy for me with the sweet scallops, a bit overpowering I guess. The english peas were perfection as were the scallops. Morel mushrooms could have used a bit more love with seasoning during cooking, which I assume was done separately before plating, but i always love the opportunity to have them. My friend had the salmon au poivre which looked fantastic with frisee and such. Service: A+ I'm VERY critical (yet understanding) of service since I have been in the industry for 12 years and have served in many different restaurants and styles. My server, Chelsea, was one of the best I've had in a while. Her approach is friendly, reserved (in a good way), and professional. Her knowledge and answers to questions were perfect. Her ability to discuss the wine list with me was stellar and her recommendations were spot on. About 3/4 of the way through I asked how long she had been there since she told me she used to work at Gaslight which is near where I work. I was STUNNED when she told me only 2 or 3 weeks. Chelsea she is stellar and I'll request her when I come back. I will definitely be back to Bastille Kitchen and would LOVE to try brunch here. Great ambiance and decor, large, open, and lively. Great job!

I've only come here for drinks, but it's a great addition to the Fort Point Community. The decor is like a ski lodge and is great for the winter months in Boston. There is a parking lot nearby that makes parking easier.

The appetizers on the Bastille Kitchen menu were made for foodies. I've been here a couple times now for apps n' drinks with friends after work, and I've been impressed. The Dry Aged Steak Tartare is a show stopper. It's five steak tartare bites atop a fried pickle (what) with a quail egg and a creamy sauce with capers. So good, I can't stop thinking about it. Also, the Beef Tongue Flatbread is also amazing, and a must try. What to avoid? I was not blown away by the Seafood Sausage Agnolotti. It was kind of just seafood ravioli with an "okay" sauce. Better things to be had on this menu. This is a great spot for drinks and apps post-work at the bar! A bit pricey, though, so be warned.

My friend and I came here for dinner during Dine Out Boston. I had always wanted to try this place ever since I heard about its opening but never found the time. Finally, we came and I think we will be back to try other things on the menu. We ordered off the Dine Out menu as well. Truffle fries plus escargot. Both were super delicious, though my friend and I prefer the escargot from Petite Robert. Still we did not regret starting off with these two. I then had the onion soup to start and was surprised at the portion. It could definitely be an entree. It was topped with cheese and a sunny-side up egg. It was very flavorful and cheesy. Yum. Next was the couscous. I could not finish this and had to bring it home. The portion looked much bigger than I thought it would be. I reheated it for lunch the next day and it was still amaaaazing. Last was the dessert - the chocolate mousse. It came in a cute glass bottle and topped with raspberries. I'm usually not fond of chocolate mousse but I ordered it out of curiosity and because my friend ordered the creme brulee. It turned out to be not too sweet and I finished it within a couple of minutes because of how delicious it was. Service was fantastic from the hostess to waitstaff. Friendly and polite.

Bastille Kitchen has a very chic french contemporary feel that is laid back at the same time. It is a trendy restaurant with a busy packed lounge at the basement. Overall, the service and food was good. Although the pork chop i ordered was dry and i did not like the smell of the ingredients used- other dishes were good and so was the wine selection. I really enjoyed my dessert selection, a cirtrus tart which tasted like a crossover between a lemon tart and a crossaint! Brilliant!!!

I attended a Bastille Day party at Bastille Kitchen which was debuting a new Rose and was passing complimentary apps. I was a fan of the apps. The steak tartare, a french bistro must, was the standout passed app. My friends and I continued the night with dinner. We split the pork belly flat bread which was delicious. I had the steak frites which came with bearnaise and a demi glaze which I loved. It is fun to have frie dipping selections on top of the ketchup! I liked their choice on using skirt steak, which is thin and chewy but the perfect cut to soak up amazing flavor. I do look forward to returning. The only reason I am not leaving 5 stars is because I did not have luck with their drinks. I had a gin drink from their cocktail list that was way too sweet. The rose they were debuting was bone dry...i mean i do not mind dry rose but when I commit to drinking a rose I expect a tiny element of sweet at least. I subbed my overly sweet gin drink for a glass of chardonnay which they so kindly did not charge me for, but it tasted like water.

I came here on a Friday night for dinner with a couple friends. The ambience and service were great, no complaints there, but the food was a bit underwhelming. The tortellini appetizer was super bland, as was the truffle flatbread. Truffle anything is usually amazing so I really don't know how they managed to do that. Still a great place for drinks though, and great lounge downstairs.

This stylish (and massive) new restaurant in Fort Point is serving up French comfort food in a chic open space. I was surprised to enjoy our meal here so much and the layout runs the gamut - cozy tables with nice dim lighting, bigger dining table options, couches in the lounge-like front area and a large L shaped bar. Our table of 5 came on a weeknight and it was a really lovely dinner. We started out with some cocktails and wine - they had a reasonably good (though smaller) selection of each. Instead of the typical bread basket they brought out a basket of mini croissants and a port wine compound butter - I could have probably eaten that all night long. But lucky for me, I branched out. I had the French Onion Soup for a starter and it was delicious- flavorful and rich - the perfect starter on a cold night. As other's have mentioned, they serve it with an egg sunny side up - an interesting iteration that I opted out of but someone else at our table went for and enjoyed. This could be a meal on it's own and a really satisfying thing for dinner at the bar on a cold night. For my entree I had the Bistro steak frites. They were perfect. The steak, cooked a perfect medium rare, was flavorful without being chewy or tough like some other flank steaks I've had. The frites were crispy, served in their own silver cone. My tablemates were equally positive about their various entrees with only the seafood stew getting a thumbs down. The only hiccups were service related and our server more than made up for them with his friendly attitude.

I went to visit last night to see what the hype is all about. The ambiance is great, the setting for the bar and the seats are placed well specially if you have friends with you to come out and drink. However, the food is sub par. I had the French onion soup to start. In my opinion it was bland and not enough flavor. The presentation with the over easy egg on top is brilliant but don't let it fool you. My dads soup is way much better than this. My main entree was the beef Wellington. This is were the food topped it off. Plating was horrible and not appetizing. Taste was ok nothing great! This place is great to have drinks with friends. The food not so much.

Came in for a second time to Bastille and was impressed. The setting was still perfect, but the food this time around was exceptional: - Escargots (A): still amazing - Steak Frites (A-): got the wife's seal of approval - Poached Lobster - sweet potato hash was perfect. Need to order this as a side next time Great addition to Fort Point.

DON'T do brunch there. It's overpriced and very blah. For much less money, you could get an unreal breakfast elsewhere. I got the eggs and they were bland, and served with new potatoes that tasted moldy. Overall, it was a very bare-bones, flavorless meal, and I wasn't quite sure why I was paying as much as I was. The options on the menu leave a bit to be desired as well. If you're looking for flavorful eggs or omelets for reasonable prices, go elsewhere. However, the downstairs bar is a very cool scene at night for a few apps and drinks. The pork belly pizza was delicious and they had some great cocktails.

This was on my short list of new places to try in Boston, but I just got home after one of the more frustratingly inconsistent meals I've had in a long time. While the highs were high, such as the decor and the Beef Wellington, the lows were accentuated by some maddeningly avoidable problems which I can't believe they get away with on a nightly basis. Bastille Kitchen is located in a quiet part of the Fort Point area and they've designed a really cool space. The bar area and main dining room upstairs have that classic French bistro feel, but instead of mirrors and subway tiles, they have wood floors, high ceilings, and a bar area that would be fun to check out for a drink. Our server Nicholas was attentive and hospitable, and overall took care of us. At one point in the meal when our water pitcher was completely empty and I asked one of the other servers to bring us more, he completely ignored us. Literally, he met my gaze and kept walking. Look, maybe he wasn't assigned to our table. Maybe he had other things to do, although it should be noted that the dining room on a Monday night was 75% empty. But in a city when there are many other places that serve similar fare at similar prices, it was a gesture of complete disdain and lack of hospitality that spoke volumes in making me feel unappreciated as a guest. For appetizers, I got the escargots, which were adequately prepared, although my issue was that at every other bistro in the city, such as Petit Robert or Aquitaine, the escargots come out in a dish with pieces floating in their own individual pool of garlic butter sauce. At Bastille Kitchen, they come out in a regular bowl with all the other pieces smothered in sauce. Truly not the presentation one would expect for a place with such high prices. For my entree, I had the Beef Wellington, which was short rib in puff pastry served with potatoes covered in foie gras and roasted carrots. This dish was the highlight of the evening - it was expertly prepared and seasoned. My friend's Steak Frites were cooked medium and otherwise unremarkable. We both agreed that we've had better at Franklin Cafe and Gaslight. In terms of drinks, we started off with a Rye whiskey cocktail that was described as their take on a Manhattan, but was fairly watered down. Next, I chose a Cru Bourgeois 2009 Bordeaux which was perhaps steeply priced at $15, but acceptable at a nice restaurant. My dining companion had a 2012 Crozes-Hermitage (primarily Syrah) which was literally one of the worst wines I've ever had. It tasted as if they took a decent glass of wine, sweetened it with Anti-Freeze, and then dumped some beer in it. Absolutely terrible, and at $14 a glass, a complete travesty. My friend couldn't drink more than a few sips and when I tried it, I almost spat it out. Nicholas was nice enough to apologize and bring us some of the Bordeaux to clean our palates before we left, but I can't imagine being paid to drink that awful Crozes-Hermitage let alone paying for the privilege of doing so. Overall, I loved the ambiance and decor of Bastille Kitchen. The Beef Wellington was phenomenal and I'd venture to say it's the best thing on their menu. That said, the uncaring service provided by one of their other servers, the mediocre escargots and steak frites (which is a terrible statement considering they should be signature items at a French bistro) and the most awful glass of wine I've ever had at a restaurant make this place a 2-star type of establishment. I'd go back if my friends insisted on going for a birthday or if I were kidnapped at gunpoint. Other than that, there are so many better places in Boston, and I'd advise you to spend your money elsewhere.

I am going to give this place just A-OK because it didn't blow my mind at all. We did get a reservation by calling in (because open table was just showing that there was no space for 6 30pm) and they were nice enough to get us in. The Good: -bartender was awesome; attentive, moved bar stools for us to sit together, and made some killer tequila cocktails -Nice ambiance and location; easy walk from South Station and looks like a game of clue on the inside. -professional staff, gorgeous bathrooms -not too loud -coat check, not too loud, professional and friendly staff (asked about allergies, fixed a drink that wasn't done right when we sat at the table). The Bad: -Way too over priced for WHAT the food is. We had the gnoochi (spelling?), flat bread with pesto/mozzerlla, and oysters. The pizza tastes like bar food and is something absurd like $18 dollars; I would never order it again. The oysters have no options just 1 that is standard. And the gnoochi was wayyyyyyyyyyyy too cheesy, fatty, and greasy. I would say it is basically a more upscale Lincoln in Southie, and totally not worth the price. Won't be back but nice to try it for a one time thing. I would do the bar and drinks only and never eat the food again because it wasn't good for vegetarians/fish eaters only.

Nothing amazing! The gnocchi was very bland, the steak tartar lack of flavor, the flatbreads are ok, but super small. The croissants were the only really nice food You can find better restaurants than this with lowest prices. The decoration is beautiful

Arrived five minutes early and were told we'd have to wait 15 minutes for a table. No problem. We had a (pretty bad) drink at the bar while we're waiting. 30 minutes later we inquired about our table. The manager came over and accused us of being late for our initial reservation, told us they had a table "if we had been on time", and that they purposefully gave away our table as we were late. After correcting his fact pattern, the manager relented and gave us a table, but continued to insinuate that he didn't actually believe us (about us having been on time) but that he was willing to do us a favor and get a table. The bald manager is the sort of guy who got wedgies in junior highschool... Unfortunately he didn't learn his lesson back then... We left without dining and had a wonderful dinner at Mistral. Won't be going back, ever.

I have been to Bastille Kitchen about 5 times since it opened and am pretty much consistently disappointed with their food. They have a great wine menu, awesome waiters and a nice bar and lounge area (hence the 3 stars).. But their food is always a little off. I have ordered the seared scallop dish twice, both meals were different and neither of the times were the scallops actually seared. I have also had a bunch of their appetizers including the gnocchi, endive salad, beets, steak tartare, escargot, etc and it is all just ok. I definitely expected more with ambiance, waiters and price. Maybe after they have been open longer it will get better!

Great place! Came here two different times, for two different occasions, and both were great experiences. First time I came here was to grab drinks with a friend. We sat by the couches near the bar. The place was crazy big...much bigger than I expected. The bar was huge, and there was plenty of standing room between the bar and the couches, which doesn't include the dining area. On top of that, there's a whole floor dedicated to more of a lounge experience, which I need to come back for and experience haha. The drinks were great, and the food was amazing. My friend recommended the pork belly flatbread...SO GOOD. Our server, Kelly, was also great. Really friendly and superb service. The second time was for dinner. Went back because I had a great time for drinks + great service that I decided to check out their dinner. Our waitress, Sakaiya, was A+. I love great service from great restaurants where they're genuine and really want to give customers the best experience. We were debating on whether to get apps or an app and an entree, and she said, without hesitation, that the apps were pretty big portions and can be shared. There were no upselling or runaround tactics, which I really appreciated haha. We ended up getting a bunch of apps to share - the onion soup, the dry aged steak tartare, the gnocchi, and the pork belly flatbread (again because it was so good lol). Between two people,we were STUFFED. Definitely a lot food...very delicious food haha. You can definitely make a meal out of the appetizers! We also got the pistachio crème brûlée for dessert. This was okay...there was a bit too much pistachio flavor that it ended up tasting like medicine. However, the dessert was definitely eclipsed by the great dinner and exceptional service we got. I highly recommend this place for a date or a fancier/classier (but not too uptight) happy hour!

I came here for a friend date and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It is a split level so there is a dining area with bar upstairs and what seems like a function room (as well as the bathrooms) downstairs. Great space with high ceilings and it feels quite large but airy. I started off with a Bonne Bouche, which was a rye based cocktail and balanced perfectly. We shared escargots, rillettes, and octopus ceviche. All were delicious but we had to request more bread for the rilletes, which was not a problem. We both ordered the beef short rib wellington, which was an interesting rendition of this classic dish. It seemed to me that the foie gras was on the potatoes instead of inside the pastry shell. The short rib was a bit stringy but very full flavoured. I enjoy rich food but all the pieces here didn't seem to come together perfectly. I would order something else next time but I am glad I tried it. The cabernet franc was a decent wine but I should have ordered something a bit more robust. The apple tartin was good but not great. I was pleased they had Basil Hayden's so I ordered a glass slightly on the rocks. I will say the service was the shining star. Our main server was very polite and came at the right intervals, was unimposing but helpful. The secondary server had a bit more personality and joked around with us a bit. The balance between the two was perfect. All in all, a great experience and I would recommend.

Atmosphere is way too loud for comfortable conversation. The bass is blasting like they are a club and it's hard to talk to the other people sitting at your own table. Food is mediocre.

Bastille Kitchen was a truly wonderful place for a birthday dinner. They easily accommodated our group of 7 people, were happy to cut and serve the cake we brought, and had excellent service. Everyone raved about their food: my steak frites were delicious and the frites were out of this world, my husband LOVED the broth in the seafood stew, the two who ordered lamb raved about how tender it was, and the two who ordered the beef wellington were also impressed. It was so nice of them to accommodate our cake - we brought one in with us and they cut and served it for us for free (and even gave our one food allergy friend a piece of dessert she could eat since she couldn't eat the cake). Obviously they handle groups and celebrations all the time (there were a ton of other parties there) but the noise level was pleasant and the service was still great. I will definitely return.

Delicious food (I had the Monkfish, which was so flavorful, with the squid ink and mussels. Friend had the steak frites- perfectly done. Our app was the cod beignets, yum! And we EACH got the crème brûlée!) Delicious cocktails (Paris Saint Germaine). Great service. Friendly staff, Not loud, nice lounge area by bar. Can't wait to go back!!

The atmosphere is fantastic - love the style and decor of the restaurant. The service is always great. But the food is consistently just ok...and certainly not worth the price tag. We've been here probably 10+ times between the restaurant and the chalet downstairs and found it's great for drinks and maybe an app or two, but certainly not for dinner. There are so many better options in the immediate area (Sportello, Row 34, Blue Dragon, etc.) that I wouldn't waste a date night dinner here! The Prosciutto Wrapped Cod - how does that taste like nothing? And for a French restaurant...the Escargot were also disappointing. The best part is honestly the croissants and house port wine butter...definitely have a basket (or two) of those!

During what is sure to be called the Valentine's Blizzard of '15, I ventured out of my Boston hotel only once: I braved the snow to dine at Bastille Kitchen. The experience was well worth the risk. The food was absolutely astounding - both the egg-topped bowl of French onion soup and the beef short-rib Wellington were some of the best winter food I've ever eaten. And I very much appreciated that the portion sizes were more generous than some restaurants' in this price range. If you're in the Boston Seaport area and looking for some hearty French food, Bastille Kitchen should not be missed.

My fiancé brought me here for date night, saw all the reviews and really hoping to get amazing food. Thought was a French place, but seems more like an American fusion food. Quality of the food doesn't worth the price at all. Won't recommend it.

Bastille Kitchen is the hot new spot in Fort Point, with a lot of hype behind it. The hype is well warranted as the chef has created an excellent french menu here with some unique dishes you won't find anywhere else in Boston. Do not skip the appetizers here! They are reasonably enough priced and there has been so much attention put into them that they warrant an order or two. We started with the pork belly chicken liver rillettes, and it was excellent. Reminded me of a rillette I had in New Orleans (which was one of the best sandwiches I have ever had). The pork belly and chicken liver were mixed with some heavy ingredients making for a very rich and meaty mixture. The grain mustard and pickled veggies served with it provided the perfect complements and this was served with several slices of crostini. This dish was a huge hit. A friend had the french onion soup which came with a sunny side egg on top and he really enjoyed it. Entrees range widely in selection and price. The short rib wellington (38$) sounded impressive, and tasted even more so. There was a lot going on in this dish, but it all worked together. The perfect bite was some short rib in puff pastry with a bit of foie gras on top. Heavenly. This dish was also extremely rich and heavy, not for the diet minded or health conscious minded diner. Others had the lobster, skirt steak, and chicken and really enjoyed their plates. The lobster tail that is served with the lobster dish (45$/MP) is enormous! After the decadent french food dessert was a bit hit or miss. We had a chocolate mousse tart that had a large marshmallow melted on top which sometimes overpowered the very good chocolate mousse underneath. Pistachio creme brulee didn't have the best flavor but when paired with the toppings was good. The homemade sorbet was very good. Drinks aren't a write off either as the french quarter cocktail was well made, nice flavors with good amount of alcohol. Service was the biggest disappointment of the night as there were a few minor errors. One is excusable but there were multiple times we had to request things that you never have to at restaurants at this price point and caliber. One example of this was our soup was dropped off without a spoon and then no server in sight of our table for a few minutes (we had to flag down a bus boy a few tables away to get one). Not all of these mistakes was our particular server's fault but the service team as a whole. The food will bring me back, and it should bring you here for at least one try. I am hoping the service becomes more polished with time to catch up with the amazing menu. Then this could be one of the better spots in Boston.

A gorgeous dining room and top shelf service, but we found the food somewhat lacking in that wow factor to match the ambiance. That said, probably a great spot for groups since there is nothing too scary or off-the-wall on the menu. The quality of everything was superb - all what you would expect from a good French restaurant.

Everything we had was awesome - oysters, kale salad and the fish. I almost went back the next night I was so impressed. The space is big and nicely decorated but by far the best part was the meal.

  • Chad G.

Chad's Eats reviews Bastille Kitchen Cuisine: French Location: Boston Waterfront by Seaport District Easy to get to for going into the city. Parking: 18 buck valet or 8 bucks in a open barking lot 1 block away (which we enjoyed the walk) Decor / Ambiance: This is a beautiful high ceiling and brick interior with big windows with views or the sarod ding buildings as you are on the second floor. Lots of rod iron and old style lighting. I love the light bulbs, they are replicas of some of the first which the zig zag like wire glows inside. No two bulbs are the same. This adds to the ambiance with the low lighting. Greeting: Top notch! 4 beautiful smiles and so friendly. We arrived 15 minutes early for our reservation and I said I wouldn't mind waiting of course. The hostess said she had a better table for us and rather than seat us right away she thought it best to just wait for "the better table". I found this to be very considerate. Menu mix: It's a great menu, it's got it all covered. Classic French, modern spins on classic dishes. Well written. It's not an enormous menu but every item is attractive. Water / Bread service: Wonderful! Fresh warm mini croissants with a red wine and shallot infused butter. Water was filtered, fresh taste with a bright finish..... Not Clorox but just a little something there Drink pour: Average glass of wine :( Food quality: This is the tricky part because thus far everything has been extraordinary. We started with the Fruits De Mer Platter ($48) 4 oysters, 4 shrimp, cull lobster, 4 clams and salmon tartare. Raw bar is what it is, as long as it's fresh you can't go wrong. Some of the defining points are the condiments. I have had better mignonette and cocktail sauces . The created item which was the salmon tartare was lacking flavor in my opinion. Wrapped around a pre-made bread ring that lacked crispness. Entrees were a split opinion. My wife got the Duo of Lamb Porterhouse with lamb bacon (funky cool) and minted yogurt. This was fantastic. Now I got the Dry Aged Sirloin with spinach fondue, potato confit and a bordelaise sauce. My dish was extremely bland. I almost asked for salt and pepper. Very little char. I mean to me that's the captivating flavor of a steak..take that away and now it's just roast beef. I asked for medium rare and I just expected a little more char and maybe some seasoned crusty bits? It's almost as if it was marked on both sides on the grill and finished in the oven. The side dishes were served in the same little mini paella type pan and again.....just bland. My wife had the classic chocolate mousse and was in heaven. Service: Fabulous! The best! Kelly was so accommodating, knowledgable of the wines and made great conversation. She made us feel so welcomed and that she really wanted to make sure we had a great experience. She was a joy! FYI- We have never met her before so this is legit :) Value: Considering the "fall shorts" on the salmon tartare and my entrée I am leaning toward pricy. I don't mind prices like this as long as food backs it up. Bathrooms: Very clean Would I return: Yes I would but would try different dishes. The Short Rib Wellington and or the Steak Frites looked great. Comments, Suggestion & Tips: The table surfaces do not go well with the plates. If your great at air hockey you may find this amusing. Cutting steak required dealing with chasing your plate around. We got a good laugh on this as I was sliding my plate from side to side. Tables need mats or other material to keep plates in position. I would have done 3.5 stars if yelp would allow this option

I've been to Bastille Kitchen twice now: once in a party of 12 for my company holiday dinner, and the other time in a group of 6 ladies during Dine Out Boston. Both experiences were fantastic. The space is gorgeous. Yes, it can get pretty loud, but many tables are spaced out so you shouldn't have to shout at your dining companions. This also helps keep your conversations pretty private, even if you can't whisper. While upscale, I'd also feel comfortable dressing trendy/casual. The food is fantastic. The French Onion soup with the egg on it is not to be missed (I was skeptical about the egg on soup, but it's phenomenal). My only complaint is that the serving is so hearty, it could stand as a meal itself! It's so tasty that it's hard to resist and leave room for the main course. I think food during restaurant week can be a bit hit or miss sometimes, but we all enjoyed our entrees (steak frites and salmon). I've also had the short ribs beef wellington, which is fantastic. The only thing I didn't like about that was that the pate was placed on potatoes outside the wellington, which made me skip right over it. The desserts are just right- the creme brulee is perfectly custard and vanilla. And at $25/carafe of wine, you're bound to have a great night!

Super disappointed. The space is quite lovely, the service great, but the food was lacking - which was a letdown b/c I loved the menu. Didn't have time for apps, so we only had entrees. I had the short rib wellington, which severely underwhelmed. The short rib inside was quite dry and under-seasoned. The foie gras was not inside the puff pastry, but strewn about the plate, and was in small flavorless bites. Those are two of my favorite items to eat, and they were both extremely flat. The accompanying carrots were the best tasting thing on the plate, which is crazy for a carnivore like me to say. Also, the potatoes in this dish should have been thrown directly into the trash; they weren't seasoned at all - heinous. If you are looking for a proper wellington, see my review for The Kitchen. My wife's skirt steak was also under-seasoned, and the cut of meat wasn't treated properly since it was tougher than it should have been. Please learn to use salt; I want to like you.

My husband and I went to Bastille Kitchen on Friday night at the recommendation of friends. While we had a lovely dinner - the service and ambience were top-notch - we didn't think the food was anything particularly special. I ordered a duck flatbread and my husband had the steak frites. The flatbread was small and slightly overdone (the duck was chewy), and while my husband's steak was cooked perfectly, the fries were not crispy (as if they had been sitting out for a time). The crème brulee was the highlight of the meal. It just wasn't a hit-it-out-of-the-ballpark dinner-date for us, and certainly overpriced for what we received. All the raves about Bastille Kitchen has been about their weekend brunch, so maybe that's where they hit their stride, but we probably won't go back for a lunch or dinner. We would give the brunch a shot!

This is a pretty mixed review based on a group (15 or so) dinner last Monday. The space is nice but loud. I can't imagine how loud it must be on a busy weekend night. The food was good but since most of it was lukewarm or cold and had to be sent back, I think it could have been better. Fewer than half of us ordered appetizers. The onion soup came out hot and was reputed to be good. The salad came out next, the oysters last. How a half dozen appetizers couldn't be brought out at the same time is still a mystery to me especially when you consider it took almost 30 minutes for the first one to land on the table. I had the lamb porterhouse which was good but lukewarm. By the time it came I was so hungry I wasn't going to send it back unless it was just awful. I suspect it's really flavorful when warm. Most other dishes were also lukewarm. Four people at the table had fries and they were all cold; most went back to the kitchen. Once we got new orders the fries were heavenly. The fact that the server didn't notice there was no heat (and thus no aroma) coming from the plates should have been a key indicator that the dishes were cold. The chocolate and berry dessert was quite good. Overall the portion sizes are appropriate - no Vinny Testa overloading of plates here! Prices are a bit high but could be overlooked if food was served hot and in a timely manner.

Went with my buddy on a Friday night. Place is quite nice inside, chic, modern. Candles on the table - would be fairly romantic if it weren't so big and open. The server had a strong French accent and was quite good at the beginning. Attentive and answering all our questions. After we finished the meal, he disappeared and didn't refill our waters for like the extra 20 minutes we were there. I was unhappy with that. I started with a mixed green salad. It was a good salad - not too small, good mix of ingredients. I'm often disappointed with $11 salads at places like this, but I was happy with this one. We both got the beef short rib wellington (thank you Yelp - and server). It was two big pieces of beef wellington - the short rib was tender, juicy, and perfectly cooked. The sauce was quite tasty and overall they were delicious. We both quite enjoyed it. Then there were like 5 or so pommes fondant (a potato in the shape of a can) with foie gras on top. These were also quite tasty - soft, though not super flavorful. I finished with the pistachio creme brulee as dessert. It was a decent size and the burnt glaze on top reminded me of s'mores (when the marshmallows are a bit burnt). It was good. Not the greatest I've had (I've had a LOT of creme brulee), but quite good. You won't be disappointed. Good meal.

The place is dramatically gorgeous. I had the scallops which were heaven on earth. But, there were only 4 of them. For $33. That's too much. They were beyond compare. Guess I'm not used to spending that kind of money for that little food, however tasty. My sister got the steak with frites and profiteroles for dessert. Fantastic.

We ate at Chalet... but the food is the same as Bastille kitchen. The location is neat. The decor is neat. The staff is awesome. The food - tasty but overpriced in my humble opinion. Off the beaten path location - love the menu options, but for for the amount vs price vs quality - just a little over priced. They do give croissants as the bread option which is AWESOME. I had the beignets, and the cod entree (boring I know but it was wrapped in some sort of bacon... bacon...).

We went to this restaurant in September (I'm overdue writing this), so they were likely still working out a lot of the kinks. At least I hope that's the case. Overall, the atmosphere and drinks were great, and the appetizers were awesome. However the service was incredibly disappointing, and the entrees left so much to be desired. The three of us had a 7pm reservation. Everything was going smoothly up until the point our appetizers were delivered, around 7:30-7:40. The restaurant had forgotten one. Not a big deal, we reminded them, and went about eating the ones that had arrived. The flatbreads were fantastic, and I'd highly recommend them. Twenty to thirty minutes go by before our final appetizer shows up....not with the entrees. It is now a little after 8:00. We gladly eat that appetizer, assuming our entrees are moments behind. Twenty minutes go by. The waiter comes and assures us our entrees will be out soon. A little after 9pm--a full hour and 45 minutes after we'd ordered--out come our entrees. The other two in my party ordered steak frites, and I ordered the seafood bouillabaisse. The steak frites were fine, but the seafood bouillabaisse was horrible. I like everything, but this lacked flavor and, critically, seafood. It promises lobster, shrimp, mussels, clams, and cod. I had four shrimp and six mussels in my giant bowl of broth and potatoes. For $38. I can't remember the last time I felt that gypped at a restaurant. The waiter had no regard for the delay whatsoever. There was never an apology that it took almost two hours to deliver our entrees, never any indication that the restaurant wanted to do anything to make it right. To the management: I did not say anything because it was now 9:30, we had been there for 2.5 hours, and we just wanted to leave as we all had early mornings. I think this would be a fine spot to visit for cocktails and maybe appetizers, but that's it. I'll never be back, as this was probably the worst experience I've had at a restaurant in Boston, and there are so many better options from which to choose. It's so disappointing since the Fort Point location is prime with all of the development happening.

Occasion: Went to a work-related medium-sized group dinner on a Monday. Atmosphere: subdued lighting, music @ a pleasant volume (present but not intrusive), interior is former factory/loft with lots of refinished wood and exposed brick/pipes. Very airy yet cozy. Food: I tried the ocean perch serve in the meuniere tradition on quinoa. Fantastic! Service: friendly, warm, attentive without being obtrusive.

Went here twice in two weeks. Delicious food both times. One star off for how loud it is. This is not a club, there is no reason my ears should be ringing after dinner.

Great addition to the neighborhood. My friend and I ate dinner at the bar on Friday night upstairs. The room was gorgeous and really open. The bartender was super friendly and helpful w/ recommendations of wine and food. After dinner we went downstairs for some drinks. A very different vibe downstairs, tables with couches - very loungy. Great place to go with some friends for some cocktails. Can't wait to go back.

I visited Bastille Kitchen last week, we were out in Boston for a conference and to do some business schmoozing so my colleague, a former Bostonian, suggested this place. The cocktails and wine list were impressive and the food simple and well chosen. We just ordered a few appetizers; the foie gras (which I can't review because I didn't eat it...but my colleague loved it), the pork belly rillette and the lobster-leek tart. All were very good, didn't blow my mind...but good. The ambiance/decor is very contemporary and open. Very modern, hardly the typical Boston pub/tavern feel you will experience in this town. I really appreciated the service too, our waitress was very prompt and friendly and didn't circle us too much even when it started getting crowded. A great place to meet with groups, schmooze clients or for a romantic dinner.

We loved this restaurant!! The space is amazing! Tall ceilings great light, but it is a little bit loud in there though. The lounge area near the bar is great for drinks. The croissants and house made butter to start are amazing. Also the cocktail list is fun and quite tasty. The service was so good. My sole was a bit too salty and i sent it back but they were so gracious about it, they even brought of her complementary desserts at the end of the meal. Very classy. Lemon meringue napoleon is superb!!!

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary here on Monday, and had an excellent experience. The atmosphere and service set the mood for a comfortable and romantic (yet casual) celebratory night-out. We began with the Bone Marrow appetizer, which was rich and flavorful as you would imagine. I drank an Ipswich Oatmeal Porter, which was priced right at $6. For dinner, my wife ordered the Beef Wellington and I had the Sea Scallops. Both were great with unique elements that added creativity to each dish. As many have noted before me, the portions here are generous. Oftentimes I leave dinner unsatisfied - not at Bastille. Before leaving we took a glance inside Chalet, Bastille's downstairs bar/lounge. This space was impressive. Think of it as a very upscale ski lodge. Perfect for the upcoming (long) winter season. Great addition to Fort Point's ever-expanding restaurant scene. Unique, and exceptional through and through.

Beautiful decor and architecture, but that is about it. The service was a bit slow and the food was nothing amazing. For the money there are plenty of other places I'd rather go than back here. That being said, we live in Boston and eat out all the time so me and my hubby are kinda picky. The lobster bisque was just alright. (We live in New England, I've certainly had better). My fiancé said his cod wrapped in bacon was good but that the beans it was served with were undercooked. The pulled pork flat bread was just meh. The cocktail I got was also meh. Just nothing to write home about.

Went here on a Saturday night and had reservations. Table wasn't ready upon arrival, but only slightly behind schedule. Had no problem getting a seat at the upstairs bar while we waited and had a pleasant interaction with the bartenders. Dinner itself was pretty good, but there were some small issues. Our server was a nice and knowledgeable, but a little inattentive (maybe due to a large group and catering to an apparent 'high-roller' in his section). It took a while between courses, so dinner extended longer than it should have. Also, my dish was cold upon arrival. Didn't make a stink about it. I started with the onion soup with egg. Very, very good, but difficult to eat the egg. Not sure how this is supposed to be managed. Anyway, my entree was the au poivre porkchop which was great. Not a big porkchop eater, but if they all tasted like this, I would be an addict. The atmosphere is definitely chill, which is a welcome change from some of the louder, frantic places (looking at you Lincoln). Absolutely loved the downstairs lounge. Outstanding place to hang out and get drinks.

As if we needed another reason to LOVE Fort Point. Went to Bastille Kitchen on Friday night (for the first time) and LOVED it. Service was excellent. Very cool atmosphere and really nice servers. It's kind of a rustic atmosphere, but still really cozy. We were in a booth with throw pillows and stuff. The server (Duncan) was excellent with wine selections and pairings, which I truly value! I had a cocktail and then paired with wine. Husband had wine. We had the salmon tartar -- delicious. The French onion soup - I loved it, my husband liked it. For entrees: Skirt steak which was more impressive in texture and taste than the cut would lead you to believe. The frites were a big plus too! I had the horseradish crusted salmon which was yummy! The horseradish did NOT overpower the dish... it was just a hint of horseradish... unclear to me how one achieves that with horseradish, but they did. Dessert was creme brulee for me (it was cold and a bit runny in the middle... the only low point... but it was still creme brulee, and somehow I managed to eat it all). My husband had the chocolate parfait. Parfaits aren't really my thing, but he loved it. We had dessert wine and port to accompany our desserts. I just love when a place as digestifs in any quantity, but they had several to choose from. Don't need to see a menu, just ask Duncan. Also... downstairs near the bathrooms is their chalet. Very cozy "chalet-like" bar with fireplace (fake, but still cool) and lounge furniture. People were loving it down there. All in all... I'm coming back and I'm bringing friends. Awesome! Can't wait! P.S. Yes they have a coat check. Seriously who doesn't this winter in Boston? Um... Strega Waterfront... that's who. See my post. Never again Strega.

Excellent service from start to finish. Very spacious room with good seating areas around the bar for groups. Food was excellent. The gnocchi appetizer was light and fluffy and the wild mushrooms to go with it provided a great meaty contrast. Main was Hampshire pork chop au poive. Pork was juicy and perfectly cooked. Au poive crust was crunchy and the heat was perfectly balanced. Not over sauced either. Overall fantastic experience.

I have been waiting months for this place to open and it did not disappoint I am a huge fan of French cuisine so I was salivating at the opportunity for a new place to open up and see what was to be offered up. I loved the menu, exactly what you would find on any given menu when roaming the the neighborhoods of Paris, from Montmartre to St. Germain and Le Marais and Le Quartier Latin. Appetizers including a Lobster and Leek tart that is light and buttery to Gnocchi a la Parisienne with a nearly pillow-like texture drenched in an earthy mixture gruyere and mushrooms. Main course was skirt steak frites, delicious. I like my steak on the rare side and it was cooked accordingly, juicy with the right amount of salt and pepper, and the fries?! Mercy. The cocktails were excellent; I would go to Bastille just for the drinks and hang out in the rather good sized bar. Plus, there is a really nice lounge downstairs to boot. Service was excellent, our server Nicholas was on point. He was friendly, fun, and patient. Table was promptly cleaned when our plates were finished so we were never cluttered or trying to futz around with our plates. I enjoyed the ambiance of the restuarant as well. Massive open floor plan, comfortable seating, some small two person tables with larger community tables mixed about. Interesting decor with certain French inspired elements throughout. On top of all of that a little bit of drum and bass accompanies your evening in the background, certainly not loud enough to be annoying but present enough to keep a great rhythm to your evening. I will certainly be returning to Bastille Kitchen to try more of that menu!

French with an Aspen twist Went here on a Thursday night for a friends 30th birthday and let me just say its a great place for a birthday. This place has a lot of space with two floors - one specially a bar/lounge area and the next a restaurant. The bottom floor is essentially a darker ski house decorated lounge with cozy seating, antlers for chandeliers and a gorgeous bar. We spent most of our time on the bottom floor which would be great if you needed to rent out a private room as well. When we got hungry we decided to check out upstairs and loved it. It was brighter, with room to breath, a lovely bar area with a couch area and a bar and then separated by a half wall - the restaurant. We sat on the couches and decided to try the food. It's definitely rich french but yummy. First off the french bread came out warm with a bacon esq butter thing, not exactly sure what it was but I loved it. Then we tried the gnoochi with mushrooms and cheese in a thick frying pan - amaz. Then moved on to the flatbreads - the pork belly with apple butter was my favorite but my friend liked the Lobster flatbread (I wasn't a huge fan). We stopped after that in order to go back downstairs and enjoy the party but I can't wait to come back and try more! Great for groups, private parties and intimate dates!

I've been twice - once at the bar and once in the dining room, both just apps. Five stars, hands down. Absolutely gorgeous interior. The tea smoked mussels are my new favorite dish in Boston. Also loved the steak tartare served on top of fried pickles. Portions are generous. Service is really nice - attentive but not intrusive; Kai is a gem and Kelly at the bar is so sweet. I've been looking for a French bistro experience similar to the much missed Sel de la Terre Long Wharf. I think Bastille Kitchen is it, but with a bit more "scene." Really excited about this one and can't wait to return.

This is such a pretty place to dine and relax withy friends. The food was really good (not excellent)- we had scallops over lobster risotto and lobster tart and gnocchi appetizer .... all solid, just not special. The drinks were spot on and the service was very good. We were in at a slow time but the space is peaceful - makes you feel far away!! Their pastry chef needs to rethink his/her menu. The desserts were poor- we sent the brûlée back because it tasted horrible ... the other lemon thing we got was just an odd combination of favors. I will be back with friends....give this spot time to get its legs - I bet they figure out their kinks.

For the price tag I really expected better. The french onion soup was great. The salmon tartar was mediocre-- the fish cuts were not done well and the salmon itself was not of the quality you'd expect for the $15 price tag. The steak frites was borderline inedible because the meat was so stringy-- maybe it was just because the cut was a skirt steak, but it definitely was not enjoyable. Others eating with me felt the salmon entree was just OK. Creme brulee custard had an almost gelatinous texture. Pretty much everything fell short. I wouldn't come here again.

I consider myself a bit of a burger snob. It takes a lot to impress me when it comes to burgers. Hands down, Bastille has the best burger in town. How good? Those that know me know that I add ketchup to every bite after the first one. This burger? I ate it all with only one bite with ketchup and it actually tasted better without any ketchup. They have my vote for best burger in Boston. Service and ambiance was great too. I will be back soon.

I attended a work function dinner here last Tuesday evening and had a wonderful time. We had a private room on the main floor with a great server, whose name is escaping me. The decor of the entire restaurant was wonderful. I can't wait to come back on a dte night with my husband. For a started I had the lobster bisque - I was expecting it to be a little thicker upon recieveing it - but the chef knows what they are doing as it had amazing flavor. My bowl was a little light on the lobster pieces though. For dinner I had the filet with scalloped potatoes and asaragus. My steak was cooked to a medium rare perfection, which I know is hard to do in a large party. My scalloped potatoes were full of flavor and cut to just the right thickness. For desert we had the choice of two napeoleons - meh. If the menu was not pre fix I would chose something differnet next time. The wine choices were nice - my only complaint was that our cocktail hour went on for two hours. Sometimes you need the servers to help move a group a long a little bit.

Not very impressed with this place. While the space itself was beautiful, the food was disappointing. I went with two of my friends and we decided to get some appetizers and drinks. We ordered the duck confit, octopus ceviche, cheese plate, and the tomato mozzarella flat bread. The octopus seemed as though it was ground which was kind of off putting and it was too salty. The flatbread was cold and the sauce tasted like canned vodka sauce and the duck, while flavorful was also cold and had several bones in it! The cheese plate was nice, a bit small but I enjoyed all 5 cheeses. They did however, forget to bring the nuts which we asked to be brought on a separate plate due to our friends allergy. Overall it was a disappointing experience. I don't mind paying $18 an appetizer, but I expect them all to be outstanding and these were far from it.

This place is great! I love the ambiance which was trendy and attractive with big open spaces. We were surprised by how well the decor absorbed the sound on a busy night. It should have been much louder but we were easily able to converse comfortably. The waitress was fantastic and we weren't rushed through our meal at all. What a nice change of pace for us! My husband and friend both ordered Steak Frites which they agreed was okay/expected. However I had the Roast Lamb Shank and it was phenomenal! Everyone had a taste and wished they had ordered my entree, too. Our dessert, an apple tart with vanilla ice cream, was very tasty. We would go back in a heartbeat.

I went on a Friday night with 2 friends to celebrate a bunch of relatively small life achievements that added up to warranting a girls' night out. It was kind of a big deal because 2 of us had just had babies so getting out for a night was an extra-special treat. I put on make-up for God's sake! Make-up and heels! Reviews of Bastille had said it was the land of beautiful people, and I was prepared to be a bit intimidated... I'm forever fighting the battle of my love of great food and wonderful ambience versus my aversion to snobbery. It's hard to find a place that is upscale, detailed in their service and cuisine, and generally high end, but which is also comfortable and welcoming. I was very happy to find that Bastille Kitchen manages to be both. First of all, the space is gorgeous. My aforementioned dislike of snobbery makes me remiss to use the word "space", but in this case it's really the most appropriate term. Big tall ceilings, lots of open space to keep you from feeling cramped - heaven. We had the gnocchi, 2 flatbread pizzas, calamari, mussels, and cheese plate. It was an appetizer bonanza. Each item was so bright and interesting and delicious! We had planned on chit chatting about various town goings-on (aka gossip) but instead we spent the whole time talking about how good the food was. We each tried some of the special cocktails and while I can't remember the names (probably due to the number of cocktails I drank) they were all great. For dessert (yes, you can have dessert even if you just share apps) we had the lavender ice cream, which was totally insane. Who would have thought it? ...And we had the citrus napoleon which my friend really wanted to try and I thought sounded questionable, but was actually fantastic. Honestly, I loved this place. We left feeling all happy, and all thought it was totally worth the effort of shaving our legs.

I love this restaurant! The food is delicious. It is not a spot that I would want to eat at every week, because the food is a bit heavy. On occasion, it's perfect. Also, the decor is beautiful and interesting. The lounge/bar area in the basement is also really cool, especially on weekends. The service is great in the restaurant.

Bastille Kitchen! What can I say?! This place is top-notch; from its food to the ambiance and service. I had the Escargots à La Bourguignonne and Tea Smoked Mussels Mariniere appetizers; for the main course, I had the Seared Atlantic Salmon and for dessert, I had the Pistachio Crème Brulee. All were delectable. This restaurant comes highly recommended to all foodies and those looking for a trendy spot for drinks. The restaurant has a very chic bar/lounge downstairs. I will certainly be back. I actually made a reservation to celebrate my birthday this coming weekend for a group of 20.

I didn't know what to expect and came away impressed with the space, the menu and the experience. I went with a party of six on a weekday, and everyone loved their entree. We split some appetizers and they were equally excellent. So here are my nits: My entree (prosciutto-wrapped cod over white beans and broccoli rabe) was very good -- but the broccoli was extremely salty. Also, I would say that the space and decor, while clearly very nicely done in an old Boston warehouse building, kind of seems straight out of a Restoration Hardware catalog. It's nice, but feels sort of like it could be anyplace. That out of the way, I definitely recommend this place and look forward to trying it again.

Visited for dinner on Father's Day. It was a lovely disaster. Bright, appealing space and friendly, pleasant service. My kir royale was the first sign of trouble - enough cassis to give the appearance of a glass of Concord grape juice. The lobster bisque was absolutely inedible-rust colored and gelatinous with no hint of rich, lobster flavor. There were chunks of lobster that I could fish out so it didn't go back, mostly so I wouldn't cast a pall over the festive occasion. The burger was very good. My 8 yr old wanted a plain cheese flatbread, which our server was happy to bring. Sadly, no one told the chef to hold the ample drizzle of pesto so that couldn't be eaten either. My hubby did enjoy the steak frites. My scallop dish was okay- the scallops themselves were good along with the scrape of celeriac purée beneath them. The pickled ramps and mushrooms should have worked with the dish but they tasted off. Ice creams were fine but not a wow. Coffee was very good. The tab was rather hefty so I'm not sure I would gamble on this place a second time, not with the other options we have in our fair city.

One word: unbelievable! Came here for my 22nd birthday with my boyfriend on Friday. We were blown away by beautiful ambiance- warm and trendy with a well-dressed crowd and soft techno music. Our server Kai (sp?) was wonderful and attentive. The food was exceptional. They give you mini warm, flaky croissants to start! Heaven! I adored my La Vie en Rose brut rose cocktail. My boyfriend had the steak frites which he loved and I had the sole stuffed with oysters and crab, which was perfect. My only complaint is the bathroom is downstairs and a little bit of a hike. But not a big deal. Thank you Bastille Kitchen for a wonderful evening!

Tried this place last night for a belated Valentine's day celebrations. The service was polite and just the right amount of attentive. We started with the Salmon Tartare and it is safe to say that it is one of the best tartare we've had so far in Boston. The capers, apples and horseradish added wonderful flavors to the fresh salmon. The cocktails menu was very interesting but we decided to stick with wine. We were also served a couple of petite croissants with herbed butter which were warm and flaky. For mains, we tried the Beef Short Ribs Wellington and Steak Frites. The wellington was exceptionally flavorful with the roasted vegetables and potato medallions topped with foie gras. The Steak was good but not comparable to the wellington. For dessert, we decided to split the Creme Brulee. It was alright, the kind you may find at the bakery section of a grocery store; not something we would order again. Overall, a great place to spend a special evening. We would definitely go back to try the rest of the menu and cocktails.

AMAZING!!! I went for my birthday dinner because the reviews were great and my friends love french food, and even though I'm vegan, there were many vegan options to choose from. I ordered the coucous entree and it was out of this world. It was the best bday dinner I've ever had and I can't wait to go again!!!! You can't go wrong with this place. To top it off, Service is AMAZING

I took my boyfriend there on a Friday night for his birthday mid-October. The ambiance is cute and the food quality is spot on. The waiter was a little distracted and did not pay attention to our requests. The food came out completely wrong to the point we had to send it back. We had also asked for another round of cocktails and it took about 20-25 minutes for them to come and the only reason they came was due to a reminder. What I did like was the fresh food and the nicely spaced tables. The mushroom dumpling concoction was PHENOMENAL, as was the french onion soup. I also liked how the tables were spaced apart. It was nice to not be on top of the people next to you. I'd definitely go again but not on a busy night.

Went here for late night drinks. Loved the atmosphere and the chill lounge like area (we were on the bottom floor). Disappointed the kitchen was closed when we got there, but I was happy to go a chill place where I could hear my friends conversations without yelling over loud music. And waitstaff were very friendly.

My wife and I had dinner here Friday and it was excellent. When I made the res I mentioned it was my wife's birthday and they brought over two glasses of champagne. Service was outstanding and the dinning area has plenty of room. We didn't sit at the bar but that looks like a great place for a drink with coffee tables and chairs like a living room. There is also a bar downstairs with a fireplace, couches and tables. Food is french but not like where you get two spoon fulls on a plate. I had a hard time finishing the braised lamb shank. All the dishes looked great.

Went here on a Saturday night with my wife for my birthday dinner. It's a fun, classic but modern place in the revitalized Fort Point area. When entrees are in the $29-$40 range, I expect the restaurant to really deliver in both the kitchen and with the service. Appetizers were the best part - french onion soup and the pork belly/chicken liver rillettes were tasty. Entrees - sirloin and the monkfish, were unmemorable. A couple of nit picky things - the rillettes advertised house made gherkin pickles, but came with pickled carrots and cauliflower. The apple tart advertised creme fraiche, but came without any and was dry as a bone. Lead hostess at the checkin was quite cold, asking us to check back at the desk for our table to be ready. Please - at this level of restaurant the host should remember customers faces and find them at the bar when the table is ready! Waitress rarely checked in on us, which was a problem as I was left thirsty for wine with both my appetizer and main course! Kitchen was slow, maybe it was a busy night. Thank you to the busser we flagged down for a croissant basket that the waitress would not bring. Great atmosphere and food shows promise, but I left disappointed. There are far better options for a French dinner in Boston that execute at a much higher level.

I went to Bastille for dinner last night. The decor was interesting although the chairs looked cheap but it was overall cool vibe. The set up was awkward. You had to go down two flights of stairs to find the washroom. Our server was fine, good even but not great. The menu was kind of a let down - why no duck entree? I ordered the sirloin. It was VILE inedible. I had a few bites and just ate the spinach it came with. Our martinis were fine, a little sweet but fine. I won't be going back.

There are numbers of reasons we will make this out primary choice for dinner in this part of town. 1. The service is fantastic! They were kind enough to fit us in without a reservation. The waiter was prompt and efficient without being ostentatious or intrusive. 2. The food is creative, fresh and well priced. They have authentic French cuisine that is to die for. We recommend the French onion soup and the pork belly bread. 3. The alcohol selection is more than extensive. You will have plenty of options and recommended pairings to dishes. 4. The ambiance and setting is wonderfully intimate yet bright enough to have an outing with friends or family. We will be back!

Service was OK. Server had great attitude but forgot to put in half of our order. French onion soup here has no cheese but it has a fried egg on top. "thank God they took the annoying cheese away and substituted an egg" - no sane person.

I went in with 4 girlfriends to celebrate a birthday. The ambiance is a winner and service was good; however they miss the mark on food. The onion soup was good. The egg on it a good touch, but little less onion and more broth would have been nice. I ordered the steak frittes. For $28 you get a tiny piece of steak and lots of fries. The steak was tasty, but nothing out of the ordinary. One of my friends got the Pork chop au poivre. It was dry and overseasoned. The potato confit tasted weird. The whole plate had too much going on in textures and taste that it came across as confusing and desperate. My other friend got the coucsous. I think the one out of the box has more taste. The other two plates were nothing remarkable. The creme caramel was a hit, the chocolate parfait was just ok, and the creme brulee was a big failure. How can you screw up creme brulee? Would go back for drinks, but I'd skip dinner for that kind of money.

I went here recently with my wife, and we loved it. You can see that the developers took their time when they tastefully designed the decorum in this massive resturant. The waitstaff are very helpful and will make recommendations. Try the octopus ceviche, its totally awesome. I also had the dry aged sirloin, it was great. My wife had the French onion soup and loved it. She had the skirt steak for her main meal and it was cooked perfectly. I will definitely be returning to this resturant because it's that good.

My girlfriends and I had an extremely enjoyable night at BK. The stylish decor is very on-trend French industrial chic & wood, and, similarly, the food is also very on-trend: comfort food. Very delicious, very French. I loved it. Great wine list. Next time, we'll go downstairs to the luxurious bar, with sofas and fireplaces. Looked fun. However: on a Saturday night, there was no valet parking service, so I had to park in a dark garage behind the restaurant. Seemed like I was going to get mugged on the way into the restaurant. And the rotten fish stench in the alley behind the restaurant, where the garage pedestrian entry is, was highly unappetizing. Beware.

This restaurant is amazing! Right down to the butter. Went there for a girls night out, our waiter was fantastic. He was just the right amount of funny and attentive (and cute!) Drinks-yum. Bread and butter- Oh my God (what is in that fancy butter?!) The pork belly flatbread-why I have not had this delicacy before?! THE GNOCCHI IS THE BEST THING I'VE EVER HAD. I can see myself attempting to make this at home and probably fail...but I will 100% be back for that gnocchi. My sisters beef- now I wish I got the beef Wellington! Moms Salmon-so moist and flavorful I want another bite. My chicken- are you serious? I've never had chicken that juicy and delicious in my life. Desserts-we ordered them all haha I am a pastry chef and they were all amazing. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Earl Grey ice cream. Nervous it would be too much tea flavor but Oh, no just the right amount. Thank you for perfecting our girls night, we will be back again....for sure.... for that damn gnocchi :-D

When we go to restaurants, I tend to focus more on the food while my wife tends to focus more on the atmosphere. Bastille kitchen checked both boxes. The restaurant is open and airy enough to grant privacy yet still feels intimate. The decor is modern without being pretentious. The food was great: not only delicious but generously portioned. I had read favorable reviews about the beef wellington before we went and I was not disappointed when I ordered it. I would absolutely recommend it. We will definitely go back.

Excellent experience! We live nearby and decided to eat out last minute. The neighborhood has plenty of great restaurants and unfortunately most were packed. Just past the Blue Dragon was this place and we gave it a shot. Food, atmosphere, and service were excellent. Very unpretentious with cool vibe. I had the lamb shank and was blown away. My wife had the diver scallops and was equally impressed. I don't give away 5 stars easily.

good choice in boston. went there last night with a customer for a dinner, and it was very solid. nice room right across the waterfront, with great food. had some kind of special non-alcoholic (i don't drink) mixture from kelly the bartender, and it was so good i ordered about four or five more during the course of the meal. (kelly is also pretty hot, so didn't hurt, i guess.) had the sirloin but asked them for the frites instead of the normal potatoes that come with it. cooked perfectly medium rare, and very tasty with a good bordelaise sauce. the pork belly flatbread was also great. my clients had the boullabaisse and loved it. desserts were also quite good. i had the one which was caramel with earl grey tea, and it was fantastic. would recommend coming back.

I went there on their opening night, so it was a free meal. I forget everything we got by now, but I cant remember anything we didnt love. The french onion soup may have been more of a standard offering. I got the steak, which came with crispy onion and spinach. The best steak I have had in a long time. Everyone else loved their entrees. The dessert was not great, but I cant rememebr what it was.

Unfortunately I was disappointed by this place. The space is beautiful and the menu looks great, but the food was bland. We started with the escargot, which came shells-off (convenient!) in a really plain sauce that made the snails taste like mud, as well as the lobster tart, which was probably the best thing of the night with solid chunks of lobster. We tried the perch and lamb shank for the mains, and both were nothing special. The food also was extremely slow to come out, although it was their first week open so I imagine that will improve. For the prices, I'd definitely go elsewhere or just go to their lounge for a drink.

I went there last night for the first time with a group of eight and we had a great banquet round table that was perfect. The atmosphere is very cool as it feels like they spent a ton of money and paid a great attention to every detail. It is a very nice space and the volume was not too loud even though the place was full. The table was ready when we arrived. The server had a upbeat attitude and was very attentive. The drinks were excellent and the food was good with a very interesting menu. I would definitely go back again.

Had a great time at Bastille! Love the decor, gnocchi was amazing and so was the service. Great place to have a nice dinner, or to go to the lounge downstairs for a drink or two with friends.

Extremely disappointing! Beautiful space but no flavor and totally over-priced!

Another very good Date Night! My husband and I are self proclaimed foodies and we try and check out all the new food finds in Boston ( or anywhere)! An ex chef, my husband is a good critic and as a "professional" eater, I try to keep up. So... Upon entering the building we were transported to a calming and sophisticated Inn or tavern. The rustic, slightly industrial lighting fixtures that differed from area to area were a great foil for the cool, modern interior structure and the romantic community table and bar/lounge. We got the perfect spot! The booth for two in the far corner of the room. We had the perfect view of the whole place. Yann was our very friendly and attentive ( enough) waiter. He was lovely and quick with a laugh at my lame humor. The French Quarter cocktail was dangerous! Very good and could be followed by many more. (But wasn't);) We tried more than we needed to but, C'est la Vie!!! Onion soup was great!! Not as much lava like cheese as usual but with bread cheese and a fried egg on top!! Rich and Delish The octopus "ceviche" was interesting and yummy with crab meat and rainbow radishes julianned on top. The Escargot was our least favorite sorry to say. &$15 not the best. Now, my steak was perfect! Frites (fries) were good and the bernaise sauce was rich and buttery! Nice addition to the meat. My hubby's Cod was really special! A very hearty chunk of perfectly done fish wrapped in a thin layer of bacon, over a ragout of white beans and veggies swimming nicely in a fish stock held by a beautiful cast iron casserole. The Earl grey tea cream caramel was very different. The taste was earthy and deep but, the creaminess of the custard itself was decadent. Needless to say we thought it was quite good and we loved the space. It is very "put together" and some may say "over staged" But it's new and in time I think some of that may fade. It is a bit pricy but the plates were ample and it's a hot hip new scene and it's French food so it's a bit more$$. I did change my mind on entree when I saw the 4 scallops for $32 go by the table. My steak for $28 was way worth it. Good bar for a quiet drink with a friend, nice dinning room for any size groups and a great large table for a big group or communal seating. Feels full and bustling but not loud. Comfortable and relaxing, more than a French bistro! Bon Appetite Ps parking is tough but the big outdoor lot around the corner is only $8 on week nights

I came here recently with a few friends and honestly I was very happy when we first got there. The hostess was incredibly friendly and we were seated in a reasonable amount of time! I ordered the mussels and It was only a matter of time before I had to order an uber back to my apartment because I felt sick to my stomach. Unfortunately my friends had to settle my bill which was incredibly embarrassing. I'm upset I couldn't write a better review, especially since it could have been such a lovely evening, needless to say, I will not be going back.

I eat out pretty often, and I was pretty thrilled to give this new place in my hood a try. The decor and ambience is great, if not particularly original. But very welcoming, definitely a place you could go with friends, on a date, or when your parents are in town, a place you want to stay and hang out. Cocktails were great, quite strong. And the food...food was excellent! Scallops with risotto was amazing, my boyfriend's chicken dish was fantastic, and the starters were quite good as well. Our only complaint was the service--we were in the restaurant for 2 hours and 15 minutes, and didn't even have dessert. Our entrees took so long, our waiter actually brought us dessert menus because he didn't realize we were still waiting for our main course! So even though it's obvious there are still some kinks to be worked out, overall dinner at this place was a great way to spend a Friday night, and we will be back!

The room is gorgeous - I think this place is really a lovely establishment - my first experience was not good at all - both mine and my husbands dinners were served cold - i got a fish and the only thing hot on the plate was the spinach everything else was cold - my husbands steak was cold as well - the server did take the fish off our bill which was a very nice gesture although as it was not expected - I decided to give it another shot and the second AND THIRD time I went here I found the service great but the food is just ok - when I dine out I really am not looking to have just ok - nor do I always expect to be wowed or blown away the food here is just ok - the room and service wonderful too - if I return it will be for drinks or something I would not eat here for dinner again three strikes...........

I had a good time at Bastille Kitchen. I was there researching the venue for an upcoming event and found the restaurant to be beautifully appointed in loft-style chic (most items are sourced from Restoration Hardware and Pottery Barn). I had the Lobster Bisque (lobster, citrus chantilly, and fried tarragon), the Escargots (parsley pistou, black trumpet mushrooms, served with grilled baguettes), and the Beef Short Rib Wellington (foie gras, glazed carrots, and pommes fondant). I also enjoyed two glasses of the rose :) To be honest, I've had more memorable bites of each menu item at other Boston-area restaurants (Menton, T.W. Food, Mistral), but I love Bastille's ambiance and would definitely go back there. The presentation could've been better, but I appreciated how the chefs accented the dishes. My rating is largely based on the environment and the service - Carolina was fabulous, knowledgeable, and a treat to work with!

Gave this place a second chance. Had fresh baked croissants with some sort of delicious compound butter to start, mixed green salad with yummy roasted tomatoes and then stuffed sole with a side of brussels sprouts and roasted squash. Everything was very tasty and came out quickly. Service was on point. Love the lighting and the vibe. Bustling but not loud. Classy but not pretentious. Good spot. Oh, and I ordered wine this time.

What a cool spot! It was my first time there last night and I will definitely be back. We went for drinks & apps and it was such a great time. The food and drinks were fantastic (fried oysters!) but what really made the place stand out was the incredibly friendly and helpful Staff. From the Hostess to the Waitstaff & Bartenders even the Manager was super nice! ... They were wonderful and welcoming and I look forward to being taken care of by them again. BTW: they Validate parking at the adjacent garage! Vive la Bastille Kitchen!

Went earlier today for Sunday brunch at noon. Made reservations but the place was pretty empty. I don't think the place is handicap accessible as I had a stroller and tried taking the elevator but it didn't stop at restaurant level. Upon arrival hostesses were smiling, friendly and offered to hold the stroller and brought crayons and paper for the kids. Waiter recommended the eggs Benedict so I ordered that, my sister had the croque Madame and my kids had pancakes from the kids menu. Then the waiter asked me what I would be having and I reminded him that I just ordered the eggs Benedict. The kids pancakes were overpriced at $8 for 3 little pancakes and orange juice, which was not freshly squeezed. My eggs Benedict were overcooked and that's just wrong. My sister's croque Madame had what they called pork belly, which is pretty much thick bacon, and it came with a side of weird sauce with more bacon in it. If you are really craving bacon get this dish, otherwise it is too much. The fries that came with it were excellent. But you can find excellent fries in a lot of places.

I came to this fine establishment with my mother tonight and here's what I think Service: It seemed like there was communication problems initially. Our server did not greet the table for 30 minutes. Normally this would be a fatal mistake in the eyes of the service nazi my mother. When our server Denise arrived she immediately apologized , explained the situation, And turned the table around. Basically put on a clinic. She had great recommendations, very polite, accommodating from there forward , And killed it. There was also a couple table visits from the manager. Always a huge plus to make you feel welcome The food was excellent. The couscous entree is rockin. A LOT of vegetables. Nicely prepared. The sirloin was cooked perfectly to my liking. With mushrooms and spinach. Complimentary dessert of sorbet was excellent as well all in all the experience was positive. I'm a fan of good service, good food, Good vibes , and seeing an epic turnaround in guest perspective. Well played Denise, well played indeed

I'll admit the truffle fries were pretty good but it's hard to screw up Fried potatoes and truffle. The true test is when ingredients require freshness and/or careful preparation. Escarole in escarole and duck confit salad had seen better days and the over abundance of overly acidic dressing only compounded the problem. I've never had duck confit that was more or less flavorless - maybe the pieces were too small and too few to get the feel for. Service was friendly but not particularly attentive.

Beautiful space. Amazing wine, cheese plate, and the pork belly and chicken liver rillette were fabulous! Darragh is a truly wonderful bartender and is a gem! Loved our evening at Bastille!

The food is good here and the interior is very pretty. However, even after three difference visits here, I'm left feeling a little "meh" about the whole experience. The staff seems uninterested in their work and the menu - while good - is a bit uninspired. My friends and I visited on Bastille Day - of all the days you'd think they'd go all out or have a fun special or theme - and it was just another "day at the office" so to speak. I keep wanting Bastille to be my go-to favorite spot and yet it continues to just leave me feeling luke warm.

I was recommended to visit Bastille Kitchen after high praise from several coworkers and visited on a Wednesday night. The crowd seemed very contemporary and had a good vibe. I live in California and have had my fill of local Boston restaurants and bars over the years and would have to say the ambiance here is unlike anything I've seen during my visits here. This place would feel on par with anything in Santa Monica or West Hollywood. Wish I could stick around town for a weekend and see the weekend scene. For dinner I contemplated between seafood or meat and went with the latter. Ended up ordering the skirt steak and frites and did not regret my decision.
