I loved it here! Thanks to the reviews on Yelp and colleagues experiences, I knew what I was going into beforehand. This is not the type of place you go to if you're just looking to grab a beer with some friends and watch sports. It's definitely swanky and elitist, but fun for a night out. I went for my friend's birthday and we got there right around 10pm. There was no line and still room to move around inside. Drinks were expensive, but expected. We hung out at the bar for most of the night; the bartenders were attentive and the drinks were good. All in all, it was a fun night at Alibi- great atmosphere and good crowd!

We got VERY lost trying to get here and despite having a reservation for 7:30pm and showing up 30 minutes later the staff were very accommodating. We were seated right away and to start we had the calamari which it was pure perfection, so good and it wasn't fried in two inches of flour which my hips can handle from time to time. Then we had the white pizza and as well it was so delicious. I started with a glass of Prosecco and then moved on to a drink that was a combination of Peach Ciroc and Pineapple juice and it was sooooo damn good, like O.M.G! The Liberty truly has a cool spot here and the valet guys were so nice. Didn't catch their names but it was the two guys working on Friday evening, from 8pm till 9:30pm. Would not hesitate to come back, especially since I have my eye on that patio.

I've been here probably 5 or 6 times and that is 5 or 6 times too many. What makes me come back? Company events, friends who unfortunately are at MGH and never want to leave the area, and a cool ambiance that keeps luring us back (not again!). The are a few cool things about Alibi -- outdoor patio area is nice and open and especially on a cool summer day is an amazing time to spend a few hours on the couches enjoying some drinks. The interior is also quite nice -- fairly cozy and comfortable, cool photos on the wall and decor that makes for some interesting talking pieces. But, all of the comes at a steep cost: 1. Service sucks -- this last time was the absolute worst. Barely anyone in there, wasn't attended to for at least 10 min, drinks took forever to come, never was asked if we want refills, ordered some food which never came. Apparently the waitress recognized her own insufficiency by offering us some on-the-house shots when we finally managed to just ask her for the check (thanks but no thanks -- it would have been nice to get ANY kind of drink when we actually wanted them) 2. Get really loud inside -- don't go, sit inside at peak hours and expect comfortable conversation with soft-spoken people 3. Prices are high for what you get (especially with the poor service) 4. Did I mention the service sucks? I mean even when we've gotten a waitress to pay attention to us they've been totally uninterested at best. A smile once in a while would be nice. That's it for me. I'm sure people will continue to go to Alibi due to its location, ambiance and cool backstory but just know that there are bars in Boston where you can be treated like you're not invisible.

Decent dinner, fairly unspecial drinks (though really attractive bartenders) with good service and a cool decor harping back to the initial purpose of the building - a prison! There are pictures of James Dean, Jimmi Hendrix and other celebs past and present that have at one time or another been arrested. Has a nice outdoor area where you can mingle with the yuppies of Boston. I will say that the clientele was quite attractive and I did end up getting the number of a very cute Norwegian girl...

I had a gilt city voucher with strict directions. Can't sit outside, one glass of wine (for two people?), and a $40 food credit. (For the record, after being told it was one glass of wine total for both of us and acknowledging the ridiculousness, they later corrected themselves and brought us the second glass after we asked for the check.) Food was AWESOME. Especially liked the shishito peppers and the tagliata (sliced) sirloin. The food was seriously a shocker considering the plates we were given were the same set I bought at party city for a Super Bowl party (ie cheap plastic)- at least the silverware was metal! Being forced to sit inside, I can say that the chairs were so incredibly uncomfortable that I found myself sitting sideways to avoid the worn down front that was digging into the back of my legs. I also found it super awkward they have a host stand around dinner time that no one stands at. All in all- I had no expectations going in, it was a delicious meal, but the party city plates is what I'll remember most.

Loved this place. Funky and comfortable couches. Had a nice glass of Malbec and people watched. Fun black and white photos of celeb's mug shots adorned the walls. Charlie sheen's was my favorite. Lol we were there early (6pm) and I hear this place has a big following later in the evening. Pretty exclusive and hard to get into Service was great.

I enjoy the outdoor patio for summers and when the weather is nice..they have an array of cocktails and most of the ones I tried we're pretty good, I enjoy the whiskey cocktail the most. If you sit on the patio in the evenings you can also order food and I typically enjoy the pasta dishes (the portions are not that big). On the weekends this place gets really packed and it's hard to get in after its full but it's more of a party vibe whereas on week nights the vibe is more chill/relaxed

Alibi is one of the popular bars in the liberty hotel. It's a hot spot for young professionals, especially doctors as it is right next to MGH. Though it is dressier, it is very common to see people in scrubs. I frequent quite often and especially love the summertime with the outdoor space. The cocktails are really good, and as almost everything with this hotel, they are themed with the jail in mind. The jailbait is one of my favorite drinks. It tastes amazing and is not too sweet. You can get appetizers like duck fat fries or small pizzas. They are great as the food comes from scampo, the restaurant next door. Service has always been great. Brittany is our favorite server. It's a sexy bar/lounge decorated with celebrity mug shots and boasting quite a bit of the original jail structure. Enjoy!

Sometime during my wild youth, with days spent scouring Berkeley's farmer's markets for only the freshest of rainbow chards and nights spent doing G-d knows what, but it probably involved sweat pants and Bravo, I decided that I should start working at San Quentin State Prison, as in, the men's prison perched just across the bridge from our house in Berkeley - so yes, I am familiar with a good jump suit (though, quelle horreur, they are not orange IRL, but more a of denim on denim ensemble) and getting down on the ground for an emergency drill when a fight breaks out in the Yard - and as I had been alerted that Alibi is in an old jailhouse, I put on my game face and got ready to get down. As expected, when I arrived and was immediately made aware that the average age is 23, matching heel height is 4.5in, and the approximate dress size is "handkerchief that barely covers one's tush", I knew that no amnt of time spent at SQSP would have prepared me for this night. Scene is dungeony meets hotel bar, with lady patrons skewing a bit young and their male escorts hitting the low-mid thirties mark - mix of guests staying at the hotel and bros who'd wandered down from their Beacon Hill abodes. It's an effing madhouse. Unless you have a table or are a 10/10 hottie, you'll probs get turned away or made to wait in line. As I'm a lady I'm unclear how much these "table" things cost - all I know is that we had one and it allowed me to waltz in and out at my leisure. Do it. If you're looking to dance, this isn't the place - space is tight, and while you can kind of grind up on each other, it's still more of a lounge than anything. Also, if you have a burning desire to have a heart to heart w someone, now is not the time as noise approaches earsplitting levels even quite early in the evening. Apparently the old cells weren't build w acoustics in mind, which is weird. Drinks are $15ish, I think? Nothing will blow your mind w flavor explosions, but I don't think that's why anyone is here. Prepare yourself to get agro to get a drink - ppl stack 2-4 deep around the bar and it can get to be a bit much. Overall, it's not a bad place to spend a night, but if I was bankrolling it, I'd probs be less excited by the value proposition - though it's much more enjoyable than its rivals downtown. Also, awarded countless bonus points for being the locale where a man I had been politely chatting with for literally no more than 5m tried to put his face on my face, which was met with what I can only describe as confusion and terror on mine, though per T, this was my fault, as realistically my dress was tiny and my hair was "on fleek," which I guess indicates I'm open for business? Men. Things I will never understand.

Underwhelmed. Was my birthday last night and security asked for my ID at the door, no ones at the door. Proceeded to tell me it would be a half an hour before they would allow me entrance even though I explained friends were waiting for me inside. Pretty distasteful. Didn't argue. Won't be back for awhile. Maybe Alibi is too cool for school.

I didn't know a bar full of Jos A Bank 500 for the price of 1 suits, shirt and ties out of the box, and hush puppies made an establishment "trendy". My friend was denied for his sneakers which probably cost more than the bouncer's fake alligator loafers purchased at Filenes Basement in 1999. What a joke of a place, this isn't NYC and never will be.

How many of you can say, you've had a cocktail at a former jail? Checking that off the to do list! Alibi Bar and Lounge is located at the upscale Liberty Hotel. The ambiance is kept true to its former self: brick walls, jaill cells are still intact and famous B&W photos of criminals line the walls. The lighting is kept dim for couples on date nights but there's also a large seating area for small group get togethers. The back patio is where its at in the summer time, be sure to check it out. I had the bartender make me a Paloma. I was in a tequila kind of mood that night and wasn't interested in their cocktail menu at all, most are cleverly named and echoing the jail theme. (its also very overpriced at $14 - $16 per drink!) Nevertheless, I had a fun time here drinking it up with the fam and if I ever land in jail, I have an alibi: WINNING! Charlie Sheen's got nothing on me.

I like the drinks are really good! the pizza here is good & calamari but not their sauce w/ it as well! The place is expensive but it's better than Pizza Hut!

Cool concept with the bar being an old jail, but my friend and I had a subpar experience here. We still enjoyed ourselves, but there are two things that will cause me not to return here. 1. The bathroom in the hotel smelled completely like weed, and one of the stalls had weed flowing in the toilet bowl. My guess is no one was going to clean it up for awhile. 2. I decided to order the sangria as my first drink and it tasted horrible. The closest description I can think of is that it tasted like watered down wine (first of all it was a pale, pale pink color). My friend described it as tasting like a diet drink. I sent it back and asked for something else, expecting the bar not to charge us for it, but lo and behold it still showed up on our tab. I didn't make a fuss, but am more writing it here so others know not to order the sangria! :)

Apparently this is the spot to be on Saturday nights. Luckily we had a reservation for a friend's birthday party so we scooted through the line. Bathrooms are located outside the lounge in the hotel so be sure to grab a bathroom card from the bouncer or they won't let you back in. I think it's just their way of keeping track of the capacity. There's a cool patio area too! Higher-end clientele feel. Good music, good drinks....but pricey. :)

The liberty hotel is so great, it's a shame these guys are associated with them or in the same building. The outside bartender was the ice lady, so rude, and didn't even pour the drinks ordered. Actually diluted them with water in front of our faces! Too much money for poor attitude and one of the worst drinks I've been served. Skip alibi.

This is the weakest lounge I've been to since I've been in Boston. Definitely not my scene!! The crowd was wack-- nasty people with dated wardrobes, stank faces & ratchet attitudes. Not to mention HELLA disgusting guys prowling with thirsty ass females... uhmmm.. no thanks! yuckk! Then there were the drinks... they sucked. Had 3 jameson and gingerale from 3 different bartenders. Only 1 was made right. I ordered a freaking Jameson gingerale, how do you get that wrong??! Maybe its better on other nights... but def not returning to find out.... Throwing up the deuces to Alibi....

Incredibly rude staff, stuck up atmosphere and crowd. This place will never get another dollar from me. They ruined a great night.

This bar has the potential to be an awesome place to get cocktails after work with some coworkers. However, my girls and I experienced a very strange night out here on Friday night. We came after eating dinner at Clink upstairs, and expected the outdoor area to be enjoyable considering the weather was beautiful. The bouncer would not let us out on the patio though because they were at capacity. I asked him if he could let us know when we could go out, as we waited right by the door at a table. After 30 minutes, we saw crowds of people going in and finally confronted him about it until another bouncer said it was okay. The patio was nothing spectacular. There are a lot of guys wearing suits here and it just seemed to pretentious for me. The special drinks are expensive, but if you just get a regular cocktail they are not too bad ($10). My first Jameson/coke tasted like coke though, but then my next one tasted like straight up whiskey. There didn't seem to be any consistency amongst the boob-baring bartenders. I also feel like my friend got a bunch of creepy guys spewing out horrible pick-up lines at her. I don't think I will ever be back here because it just wasn't fun for us. The music had some good throwbacks, but other than that there was nothing particular about this bar that I liked.

This is a tiny lounge that's super dark... It's located on the first floor of the Liberty Hotel and I think it gets packed Fri and Sat. However, it's just so dark in there it's like they purposely do that so you can't really see anything. There's a lot of tables all around one part of the place and a pretty small bar once you pass an entry way. For a bar the drinks were weak and was the same price as if it were at a club. I'd rather be on the second floor in the open space than in this dark cramp room...

Perfect for a small plates meal. The heart shaped pizza was great. The green beans and Caesar salad were delicious too. Great drink selection! Fun ambiance with a great patio

I have a close friend that used to work at the hotel so I've been to Alibi many times. It's pretty much always a good but not great experience. The drinks are tasty but expensive. They have a wide variety of liquor and bubbly, and you can even order appetizers and snacks from Scampo. The theme pretty cool... they've stuck with the jail theme and have managed to keep some of the original architecture, bars and all. That being said, the furniture inside sometimes feels a little too minimalistic. They could use some extra chairs as opposed to those dimpy little stools that are at the tables. In addition, it can get packed at times, in which case it's not as fun. Best time to come is during the summer, when they have the patio area open. It doubles the size of the bar and the patio is super fun.

I spent 2 nights at this hotel last August and have since moved here. I think this hotel is so well done. I ate in the bar the first night and had scallops with squid ink pasta. It was outstanding. Also ordered oysters and loved them as well. Great people watching and a very cool setting. I went to jail and loved it! 5 stars

By a wide margin, Alibi is the best lounge in Boston. My friends and I have been to a lot of places around here- Tunnel, Royale, Brahmin, Sissy K's, Daedalus in Cambridge... Alibi wins by a mile. Cool interior with a DJ spinning great tunes, and an awesome outdoor patio. Beautiful guys, beautiful girls, great drinks, nice ambience, mostly great vibes from everyone. Apparently, this used to be a city jail, and parts of it still remain, which is kind of cool. Also, they have mugshots of celebs on the walls which is a nice touch. I'm not saying this club is 5 stars every night. I'm saying that on Saturday August 2nd 2014, it was.

Is this place serious? We came here after my bachelorette party dinner in March, so picture a bunch of girls in skirts/dresses and heels. Now picture us standing outside from 11 PM to 12 AM for reasons I have yet to determine. We got there, and they figured, "oh a bunch of chicks, let's form a line with them." We were the first ones in line and it continued to form behind us. I guess it made them look good? They had us wait ONE HOUR in the freezing Boston cold. To the point where we were determined to get in or lose a limb to frostbite. One of my girls approached the bouncer and expressed how long we had waited for, and they proceeded to let us in - so I guess they forgot about us? We get in and they treat us like we are VIP, which was neat but lasted a total of 30 seconds. We were given a ticket when stepping out of the bar (to use the restroom) so that we could get back in afterward. The drinks were good and fairly priced (but then again, we're from NY). The women were stunning and model-like, while the men were ugly but clearly rich. Then I understood the crowd. Definitely not the best scene for a bachelorette party, but we made the most of it. While we tried to warm up, bouncers kept opening huge doors throughout the place that kept letting in the freezing air. I suppose it must've been hot for people who had been dancing all night, but for us? We were very unhappy. The worst part came at 2 AM. Closing time. If legal, the bouncers would yank the girls by the hair and thrown them outside. That's how it felt. They didn't even let me get my coat that I had checked in. I couldn't gather my group of girls. Luckily I'm tiny so I managed to sneak back in and hide in the bathroom while waiting for my coat and some of the girls. Would never, ever recommend this place to anyone. The few little mugshots hanging on the walls were not worth it.

This is a great spot to have cocktails. I have never eaten at Alibi, so I cannot comment on their food. I absolutely love the ambiance of this place, modeled after a jail cell. They also have several comfy couches to lounge on. I went last night with a few friends and tried the jailbait cocktail first. I do not recommend as it tasted like I was drinking lemonade after I just brushed my teeth. I sent that cocktail back and had a couple of the single white females. Now that is a delicious cocktail! FYI - I would recommend going on a weeknight as I have tried going on a Saturday and there was absolutely no space to have a drink

Great meal, great service. Went to meet two people here for dinner as a less-expensive option compared to Clink and Scampo. Based on the set up, I was little nervous about having dinner here, but the burgers we had were fresh and delicious, and the pizza was excellent as well. Reasonable drink prices and an eclectic drink menu. GREAT service and a nice atmosphere. My only suggestion - improve the seating! The couches were awkward and the stool seating for the high tops was too low. Granted, this is a lounge, so it's probably better set up for drinks and tapas rather than having a meal, but could be a bit more comfy. Otherwise, great place to grab an informal bite to eat, meet friends, grab a drink, or hang out.

Drinks here are impressive. However I decided tonight to venture out on the patio to smoke a cig and was harshly reprimanded by someone who clearly thought he was WAY more important than he actually is. Totally appreciate the quality but come on guys get over it. I know MA is a blue state but please go f*** yourselves.

I went here on July 4th as it was a short walk from where we were sitting along the Charles to see the fireworks. It was a pretty cool place, actually. It used to be a jail and they ran with that theme when decorating. The atmosphere was the best part. The bartenders were nice and the drinks were expectedly overpriced as the rest of Boston is. I would come here again of on the area but wouldn't go outta my way to get here. Overall a-ok.

Great cocktails, awesome vibe Gets a little crowded but that's to be expected for a late Saturday night. Don't come expecting to sit down, tables are reserved for bottle service only. Great for a small group or after dinner drinks !

The liberty hotel is super easy to get to from the red line (one big plus)! I got a drink here after work with a friend. There were plenty of seats at the bar to choose from. I would love to go back to try the food. But regardless, drinks were good, service was decent. Not a bad spot!

A nice intimate bar in "solitary" at the Liberty Hotel, built in a converted city jail building, the walls are lined with celeb mug shots from Lindsay Lohan to Robert Downey Jr. The stock at the bar is excellent but a bit more limited in stock than the larger bar upstairs. They have small food items including the flatbreads. The vibe varies on the bartender. Brittany keeps the place energized. Her off-night counterparts not so much so. Music is sadly just recorded, not live, and a bit too loud often for one of the great joys of most bars, a little conversation with friends, family, coworkers, etc. I came here in the dead of winter, but I hear the patio rocks in the summer!

Nothing quite compares to drinking post-workday Sauvignon Blanche in an old jailhouse. I met a friend at Alibi for drinks, and I was really taken by the clean, modern decor paired with interesting history. The Liberty Hotel staff were very professional and courteous, although the bartender at Alibi was less than attentive (waited ten minutes to serve me my wine, and totally forgot the glass of water I requested.) Despite this, I really enjoyed the ambience of Alibi, and their cocktail list and wine list were solid. And it was fun people watching! I'd definitely recommend this spot for after work cocktails.

This place is the ultimate in cool and great for meeting friends and date night. Stay away from their specialty drinks - neither the Hot & Dirty Harry dirty martini, nor the Jailbait Mojito struck us as not very good (sorry). The skewers though were delicious. We tried the lamb/riata & chicken/curried and enjoyed every bite. The arugula salad also was quite good. Service? Meh. At least our table. Everyone else seemed to be getting a lot of attention. We had to wait 20 minutes for our check. The server was apologetic saying that there was an emergency ... we did see someone on the floor, but again ... it didn't seem to affect anyone else. We definitely would go back. Outstanding ambiance, comfortable couches and outstanding bites .... what's not to like!

I would give this place a 5-star for their decor, but not so much for their service. Alibi Bar is located on the ground floor of the Liberty Hotel, which is historic and well known for being a prison once upon the time. We were greeted by a jaded, grumpy manager when us girls came into the bar. You would think he would be a little nicer to us cute girls, umm no! It's interesting when a waitress doesn't know the menu very well. When I asked for her recommendations, she gave me the generic answer of "All of em' are pretty good", which is not helpful at all. If the staff isn't excited over their own restaurant and menu, how can they expect me to be?! In the end, I ordered their 'Cold Hand Cuke'-vodka, muddled cucumber & mint, and pineapple. Their drinks were strong ($13 on average) and standard. It wasn't too sweet, which I liked...like I wrote earlier, the drink is standard, but nothing out of the ordinary. We also ordered a magherita pizza, which was also just A-OK since the crust overwhelmed half the pizza...it reminded me of a frozen pizza at home, but not as bad. It is one par above, sad huh? PS, our pizza came out 10x faster than our drinks. Alibi has a nice outdoor patio area for drinks, but the inside seating is where you get the feel for what you really came here for...brown stones and bars! Overall, the service was horrible, the drinks were okay, and the decor was fantastic! Can anyone say new management please?

Great bar at the Liberty Hotel...the place looks like a prison, dark , brick walls...and posters of celebrities and why they went to jail...great concept! The drinks are unique, each with a particular name following the theme. We arrived a bit early and the place wasn't too full, but as the night progressed, it soon got pretty packed and the DJ...well...he was playing some of the best tunes I've heard in awhile. It was a shame not that many people felt like dancing...but my friends and I were...ah..we didn't care...we were tourists ;)

So a group of girl friends and I thought we would try out the Liberty for a girl's night out. Our experience - weak drinks and generally poor service. I ordered a Jameson and ginger - the bartenders at Alibi served me a gingerale with a splash of Jameson. After a received a second drink from a different bartender of the same poor caliber, I called over a manager. He tried my drink and after a minute of thought was able to identify it. If it takes you a full minute to figure out I have whiskey in my drink, then you should offer me a new one - which, he didn't. By chance, we went upstairs and my friend ordered a third drink for me. Finally, Justin made me a drink - a real drink. I immediately put down the watery mess I had received in the downstairs bar and enjoyed my new beverage. So what's the takeaway? 1. The managers and bartenders (with the exception of Justin) are poorly trained and generally bad at their jobs. 2. Either drink before you come so receiving soda all night doesn't bother you - or make sure you go upstairs and order all of your drinks from Justin.

I love Alibi! I recently stayed at The Liberty Hotel, so friends met me for pre-dinner Saturday cocktails at this little speakeasy/club/bar. I love the theme of Alibi...they fully embraced the prison-esque history of the space (complete with the authentic barred windows and cell doors) and blended it perfectly with the modern by including mug shots of celebrities...so fun! The cocktails are expensive (between $12 - $14), but they are very tasty! I understand Alibi becomes as club at night, and I'm a little beyond that kind of scene, but for a nice 6pm cocktail, it was perfect!

I did not experience the level of pretentiousness mentioned in some of the other reviews; however, I went on a Thursday night and the place wasn't very packed. So my 2 stars come from the quality of the service and the quality of the drinks. As the place wasn't very packed and the bartenders were not very busy, I decided to order an Old Fashioned. The drink was well below average - way to much sugar and way to much of whatever they used for their orange flavor, I don't think it was actual oranges. I could still somewhat taste the whiskey though, so I had no problem sticking with the drink. However, my disapproval of the drink quality was solidified when I tasted my girlfriends, Sangria. It tasted more like flat, welch's grapefruit juice that had warheads dissolved in it. It was so tart, I made the universal sour face! On top of the drinks not being very good. The two bartenders were pretty bad. They did not engage with any customers unless they were explicitly called for and they spent most of the 30 minutes we were there with their backs toward us, facing the cash register, playing on their cell phones. The drinks and the service were bad but at least it was only $15 a drink 8-|

I'm writing this review based on the two times I went when it was crowded. Definitely a really cool place and I LOVE the architecture here. There space is really nice and definitely a classy place. But there were SO many people here it was hard to order a drink and make my way around the place. Drinks were slightly expensive. Overall I would come here on a weekday when it's not as crowded, especially in the spring or summer when the weather is nice. They open up their outside space which is really nice so just sit and have a drink or two with some friends. I don't really recommend coming here when crowded

Excellent idea for a bar! Great decor! Our server for the night was awesome, super friendly and kept the drinks and food coming. Went there last night for a friend's birthday party but had the worst night of my life! The whole experience ruined by the absolutely aggressive staff at this place - starting from the 'doorman' checking ID's at the hotel entrance to the staff at the entrance of the Alibi lounge and the staff walking around inside. The guy at the front entrance told my friend to 'get the f#%& out of here' for smoking a cigarette 'too close to the hotel entrance' and wouldn't let him back in at the birthday party, until after his wife had to get the supervisor to finally listen to their pleas! The guys at the entrance were extremely rude and wouldn't let another friend back inside the lounge, who had gone upstairs to check out the main lobby! They told her to wait in a line because the 'inside was too full'! We were at a frikkin' birthday party!! Not some underage lame college students, trying to make their way in! Lastly, one of the bouncers literally shook me by the arm, stopped me from going to the end of the bar because he thought that I pushed him (??!!). He asked me to say 'excuse me and sorry' to him? ( I didn't of course, because, to hell with these snobbish idiots!) Never going back there, EVER AGAIN.. until and unless they change their management.

I've been here a few times. I love the vibe here and the atmosphere. The name is very fitting. The metal bars coming down the windows and the loungy chairs are great. The further back you go, the more dirty the chairs were and so, i hesitate on sitting on them. The bar staff are pretty friendly. The drinks are pretty good too and the garnishes are fresh. Space wise, it's not very big but it looks and feels cozy.

Ah, I love that the bar is located in the beautiful Liberty Hotel but that's pretty much all I love about it. Been here several times since I live super close to it and it's just a bummer that the drinks here are terrible. I feel like the quality of the drinks have gone downhill. They just mix whatever with the liquor and say hey here's our new cocktail drink! Sometimes the drinks are too watery or too strong. Service here is OK. Last time I went was right after work so it was quite busy and filled with loud douchebags but the waitress actually came to check up on us several times. One star for the service! I still can't grasp the feel of this place. During the week (Mon-Wed) it is pretty quiet and has a classy feel and you can actually go with a date but Thurs-Sat it is filled with obnoxious after work people. I believe it was Thursday night that sometimes they have a DJ and I saw a couple wasted and grinding on each other like nobody's business. It was a disgusting sight. The thing is that Beacon Hill does not have a "lounge" type of bar. So if you are looking for that type of feel, this place is to go but during the weekday. I would recommend staying away from the cocktails and either getting their beer or a specific cocktail that you want made (gin & tonic, Pimms Cup, etc).

I went here for drinks and dinner with a friend. I would rate it as just okay. The bar had a strange cleaning products smell that was quite strong and not what you want to be smelling while your are drinking or eating. The drink list had a good selection of average cocktails. I ordered food from the menu which is prepare by one of the restaurants in the hotel. I had a caprese appetizer salad in which the fresh mozzarella didn't taste all that fresh. The hamburger I ordered was overcooked and served on a dry toasted bun. Overall, the quality of the food and drinks was mediocre for the price.

A lounge that has no cover, plenty of non-reservation-needed seating (including tables), waiter service AT the table, and delicious $12 drinks? Sold! Yes, $12 is more than the usual pocket change, but keep in mind that (A) there's no cover, (B) you're in Boston, (C) you get a private table FO FREE, and (D) you don't even have to move your ass out of that seat to keep the drinks coming. Seriously, what more can you ask for??

Billy was the biggest jerk, he is one of the security. He is a detriment to the establishment. He continually asked us to move which we did but he was never satisfied. He and another of the security team told us it was $250 for a table or $50 a person to stay where we were. No one was behind us, but people were dancing in the entrance way and that seemed ok with staff. Our party had spent over $800 at alibi at that point. I do not recommend Alibi, the security staff is unreasonable and not friendly to patrons. The only plus side was that the dj was great and the bartender was phenomenal.

Alibi is one of those places I don't know why more guys don't frequent. There were SO many groups of cute girls there. And like, no guys. Well, there was one in an AFFLICTION T-SHIRT.BARF. And of course, old hotel guests (myself included?) Our server had so many tables but she juggled them like a champ and checked in with us often. She was super fun and nice and deserves a medal. For a place like this, I would: Drink: One of their signature cocktails, which are strong and very good. I had one with watermelon. Not too sweet. Eat: We didn't eat here but I think they share a kitchen with either Scampo or Clink, both of which have decent food. Wear: Short, tight dresses with a peplum. That seemed to be the outfit du jour. Go with: Your best wingmen, dudes. This place is teeming with girls looking around hoping to get hit on.

I've been here a few times with either just my girl friend or with a group of friends. A very good spot for both a date or to hang out with a group. If the main bar is full and not letting people in, then they have another bar upstairs on the lobby level where you can get a drink until there is room in the main bar. Drinks are very good but very expensive too.

My friends and I came to Alibi for a friend's birthday. The crowd consisted of mid-twenty to mid-thirty somethings. The cocktails were great, and the prices were expected in such a nice hotel. The bar was a bit too dark for me, but the music was definitely a plus. I found meter parking to be difficult to find, but valet services are offered for $20-25.

This place was so cool! What a great idea! A prison that has been turned into a hotel, restaurant and bars. The bar is called "Alibi" and has a great atmosphere. Little on the pricey side for some drinks but the patio is amazing with the fire pits!

  • Eddie H.

Alibi has quite the unique ambiance. The converted jail space gives this place quite a unique feel; the brick walls, jail bars, mug shots and dim lighting make for quite a setting here. It's great for happy hour or a quick drink or two before heading elsewhere. I have never had a bad experience here but I have occasionally had the unfortunate experience of sitting at the bar to some name-dropping chatter mouths on the hunt for celebs who might be stopping by the bar/hotel.

I'll start off by saying I don't enjoy spending $10+ for a mixed drink nor do I enjoy $6 Corona bottles. However when I went to Alibi I didn't hate it. I got here early and from what I hear a line forms very fast around 10pm. Even though it was packed the bartenders were quick to get you a drink and it was a great atmosphere. Inside can be a little tight but they offer a pretty large patio with an outside bar. The one thing keeping this place from a 5 star review in my opinion is the lack of beer selection on the outside. I understand there's a lack of space but I'd prefer a bigger selection than the $5 bud light and $6 Corona. If I'm paying $6 for a beer, at least give me a Sam or Harpoon. One other negative is the bathrooms are in the hotel lobby. But no big deal, you get a bathroom card when you leave and don't wait in line afterwards. But very relaxing, great atmosphere, great spot for a nice night and a lot of fun. I didn't try the food but I was told the steak skewer was good. I'd probably have to open a new credit card in order to bring a date here but that's fine.

Awesome decor, but definitely a lounge, not the cool cocktail spot I was hoping for. I am absolutely in love with The Liberty Hotel and would give it six stars if I could, so after touring the grounds, I was excited for the prohibition-style cocktails I assumed I would get at Alibi. Well, the surroundings were as beautiful as the rest of the hotel, but I was really disappointed that instead of having a cocktail lovingly prepared by a mixologist, the young woman in the tight black dress behind the bar quickly threw together a $13 martini like she was making a rum and Coke. It seems as though the owners are going for flash and turnover rather than quality. (I will say that the bathrooms were spectacular!) I really hope I was there on a bad night because I really, really want this place to succeed!

This is definitely a creative, interesting concept. Located in a hotel that used to be a jail, this bar takes its concept from that theme. The bar is dim, with doors and windows made to look like jail bars. The walls are lined with mugshots of infamous celebrities, their alleged crime and their alibi. The drinks are also pretty good. I ordered the Single White Female, which is peach vodka, white grape juice, peychaud bitters and prosecco. It was sweet but not too sweet. Strong but not too strong. A bit on the pricier end, especially for Boston, but worth the experience.

I came here for my friend's birthday party and it's a great spot to enjoy delicious cocktails. The decor has exposed brick, jail bars and great charm. It can get a little crowded but you can always head upstairs to the hotel lobby bar to get away from the crazies. You're free to bring your drinks anywhere in the hotel. I would love to try Alibi during the summer when the patio opens!

Service and quality have plummeted quite a bit over the last year. The door men were beyond stupid. We were told the place was at capacity and needed to wait. Then, they started making up ridiculous reasons why we couldn't stand in front of the lounge entrance. Finally a hideous Amish looking guy with the ugliest beard yelled at us telling us we couldn't get in unless we had blue cards or were hotel guests. What happened, Alibi?? You were a good place....

I had a few cocktails with a group of girlfriends in the outdoor lounge. The good: the Jailbait cocktail is delicious!!! The couches are very cozy. Our waitress was really friendly and shared some hilarious stories with us. The bouncer at the door was really nice and professional (and bonus- was also cute!). The mug shots of celebrities with their crimes and alibis listed were a very witty piece of decor :) The bad: it was pretty dead (maybe because it was a bit chilly and early in the night) so it was good that we weren't looking to socialize outside our group. I was also annoyed that we were charged an automatic gratuity. We were a party of 5 and only parties of 6 or more should be charged gratuity automatically. I'll chalk it up as an honest mistake, but it seemed a bit shady.

I was here the first time they opened, like 5 or 6 years ago and it was better then. I'll say it. I was disappointed with the drink selections, I know these guys know how to make a good cocktail but honestly, there wasn't much on the menu I wanted to try - so i stuck with the sangria. Lydia Shire does not disappoint with the food quality though. That was very delicious. The staff was super friendly, our waitress was the most attentive but not intrusive type that you want at a place like this. I'd visit again since the atmosphere is fun, but I wouldn't rush back. It is pricey but what do you expect.

The Liberty hotel used to be good but lately the crowd has started slowly degrading in quality and energy. This Friday the place was barely busy with the few people there old grey haired men looking to score. The drinks were watered down. And worse of all - the staff, especially the people at the entrance of Alibi were rude and lacked any social skill. Considering the locale was practically empty, Victor - the bouncer kept yelling at everybody. We were a group of 7 girls and, not only that he was rude, but he physically pushed us out of the way while letting 3 guys in with drinks in their hand and no tickets. One of our friends actually had one of the tickets and he claimed we 'stole it'. Not sure what that means. I used to frequent the Liberty for the fashion Thirsday but I would not recommend going there anymore. Quality has deteriorated. And I am still upset how Victor treated us.

I loved Alibi. We were able to get a table by the DJ and just chill out all night. And by chill out, I mean dance while attempting to still look as classy as possible. It's a nice option if you don't want to go to a Boylston type bar, but you don't want to go to a club-ish place either. The music is good, drinks are good - and in the summer you can hang out outside. The cab stand out front is a nice plus as well.

I came here with a bunch of friends for my birthday celebration. I wanted something a little more chill than a club and that's exactly what I got. We came at 930 on a Saturday night. Friends that showed up at 1030 had to wait outside. The place itself isn't that big, but I like the ambiance. The crowd is more young working adult and less college - perfect! The brick walls add a nice touch. I plan on coming back here over the summer to check out the outdoor patio. Drinks were pretty good - I went upstairs because they serve a good blueberry margarita which you couldn't get downstairs. Tables are free, you just have to reserve them in advance, how awesome is that! I'm sold on this place.

I love this place, but I hate how it's already packed and at "full capacity" by 10:30pm, although the place really isn't even that crowded during that time. It's a smaller space, but has a full bar and it's nice having the option to dance if you wanted to. The music has always been appealing to me (mostly top 40s and hip hop). The crowd is young and dressy, and the drinks are a bit pricier but are still tasty. The free coat check in the winter is great, and the heated cab stand outside is a nice touch (that makes you actually want to go out in the winter)! Fun and lively on friday and saturday nights! I would recommend coming here at least once while you are in Boston.

The entire Liberty Hotel experience is great! I first went to Alibi when it was the chosen venue for my fraternity's anniversary celebration in 2012. It then became a regular Thurs & Sat night tradition. The atmosphere is upscale casual & it really brings a great Who's Who crowd for the City of Boston. The Thurs night fashion show in the hotel is always a great event. In the summertime, Alibi opens it's patio doors to a second bar & tons of seating & hanging room. I recommend any of their thin crust pizzas. If you're new to Boston & looking for a great place to eat & socialize downtown, Alibi is the place!

I want to start by saying that I have been to Alibi at least six times before this one and generally I have found it to be a little pretentious but tolerable because their food and their drinks are great. For the most part, all their wait staff are pretty good. Tonight, my friend and I (both female and professional) decided to go there for drinks and dinner. We sat at an outdoors table at 7pm, ordered literally six drinks ,dinner at that spot. At around 8pm, one of the wait staff came and put a reserved sign at our table for 10 pm. Our waitress, who was wonderful, gave us the bill as she was changing shifts. We were expecting to order more drinks. At around 8:30, our drinks still half full another waitress came to tell us that we needed to move. They had basically decided they were going to sell the table we were sitting at for table service, and it was ok to make two women down their drinks and expel them from the table where they had already spent a lot of money so that they can seat someone else at that spot to make more money off of them. The waitress who told us to move was rude, at one point made a comment that resembled,. "Is there going to be a problem here?" They made us drink our drinks like cattle and moved us out of those seats even though there were other empty tables outside which were open until 10pm. They were ok with us getting our non table service selves finding some other table in the house. Their only concern was making sure they were able to ring in the cash from that table. I never seek a manager but as we were alone as two women and seeing how egregious this behavior was, I asked to speak to the manager, who only said, "I'm sorry about that. Not the way it should have been handled." He didnt guide us to another table, or make amends....I dont need you money, Alibi. I make a six figure salary. I have frequented some of the best restaurants in the world. I am saying this because today you placed the few dollars you made off that table over the 15 min you could have waited for two professional women to finish their drink. Shame on you. It's disgusting and you are not worth frequenting.

Alibi Lounge is a terrific place to spend a Friday or Saturday night out over cocktails. Not the cheapest place around, but great ambiance and a 30 plus crowd. I'm sick of young college bars in Boston. Last night for the first time I was in the outdoor patio and it was absolutely a great time. Perfect night and a very good looking crowd. I would def go back to the outdoor patio considering we don't have too many more months of hot weather. Enjoy it now while you can.

Wow, as far as ultra lounges go, this place is the sexiest, grittiest places I've ever been to. It's a jail-themed bar located within the Liberty Hotel but It **feels** like Vegas when you see the leather couches for bottle service lining the walls, and the sexiest women i've seen in Boston all congregated around the hightop tables. It's dark, ambient, and the air is filled with the scent of women's perfume. Not a bad combination. This place isn't cheap by any means...drinks start off around $15 and will run higher depending on what you order. The DJ was spinning some awesome tunes and the outdoor patio was open, although being in Boston, you're subject to hot, humid nights. It wasn't THAT bad the night I went. Definitely a "must-go" place when in Boston!

First of all, the Liberty Hotel is VERY cool....an old jail?? Who wouldn't want to check that out!?!?! We couldn't decide which bar to visit, and finally settled on Alibi (the one on the ground floor). I liked the decor (mug shots) and the atmosphere was very cool. The bar is a bit more dimly lit, while the restaurant portion is a bit brighter. I think the entire spot should be darker (it was a jail after all...). This spot is a bit pricey. I think that the hotel should have at least one of the bars having a more casual, less expensive atmosphere, but hey, it is Boston and it was fun. My only complaint is that the bartenders seemed a bit standoffish...I was turned off by them as their attitude was more like they were WAY cooler than us, and therefore, wanted to ignore us. We were basically the only people at the bar, so I am not sure why we had to ask for help... A good spot, but not my favorite bar in the city.

Went there for drinks with friends on a Monday, so was not part of the meat market douchebaggery scene this place is known for. What a disaster of a place! This place is overhyped and way overpriced. Only reason this place gets 2 stars is purely because of the bartender. #1 advice, if you have to go there - skip the food! McDonalds will serve you a better burger. Fries were freaking cold and they forgot the avocado. Burger meat was dry like Sahara sand. Kebabs were rubery. The kitchen staff has to be the laziest and dumbest in whole Northeast! Lean Cuisine out of microwave tastes better than crap they put out.

This is a fun bar to hang out pretty much any night of the week. Only downfall is the drinks are expensive and don't really taste great. If you can get over the bad drinks, you'll have yourself a great time. A lot of people seem to come here after they get off work from Mass General based on the amount of people I see coming in scrubs.

We went here for drinks on one of the final nights of our trip. We wish we had found it sooner. They have a great outdoor patio and when we went were having a free drink sample of a new tequila. So free drinks never hurts. Overall the staff were quite friendly and the drinks were all well made. We also had the tempura green beans and were amazed by how many you get but also how great they tasted. The crowd here tends to be people in their 20s and 30s so something to keep in mind while visiting.

Okay in my books. I was in town with international colleagues.first the bouncers to the building were giving us trouble because they did not carry their passports around and they did not want to check other IDs. Drinks were decently strong. Crowd seems okay--it's not a good mix (hey I'm cosmopolitan). What really floored me with the negativity is that they have a limit on the people in the outside area. I've only heard of that for indoors, so it's a bit ridiculous. Finally, I was making a call and they were pretty rude about me staying inbounds inside that courtyard.

I still love going to this place.. it's a classy establishment that was pretty crowded even on a Wednesday night. They have a Sinatra band there playing on alternate Wednesday.. same one that plays at Lucky's Lounge. Loved it. Drinks are expensive.. but their cucumber cocktail is really delicious! Ambiance is nice. This is a place where you'll find high rollers.. bankers.. lawyers.. Bathroom is outside the jail.. I guess that's expected. The line is looooong on the weekend... but I still love the place. The doormen opened the door for me and my friend.. and we were wearing our gym clothes to meet our friends. I appreciate not being snubbed for not dressing up. Still love it!

I love this place and it's my favorite hotel bar in Boston. The setting is pretty cool because of the whole "prison" motive and the drinks are fun and inventive. Be aware that this is in a hotel so you will see drinks in the $12-$14 range. They have cocktail waitresses who can be a hit or miss and the bartenders are ok. It's a mixed crowd and felt comfortable with my age range (late 20's/early 30's). There is limited room inside so during the summer time, I love the outside bar area. They have bottle service for those bachelor/ette parties. Definitely get there early as it can be packed up pretty quickly.

Another reason why Boston is not the hub of nightlife that it thinks it is. Artificial lines to make it look like there is a party going on while there is nothing inside. Doormen who will make up their own rules & bend them when a buddy shows up is very unnecessary. Rude staff for no absolute reason. I'd rather grab a beer down the street rather than spend a penny in this place. Stay far away!!! I get better service at a dollar store.

  • MJ L.

Alibi is a fun, chill bar in the Liberty Hotel that goes right along with the prison concept. The bar feels very swank, dark, and edgy (especially with the prison windows!). I went to Alibi for a birthday party, and it was a great location. There was tons of space in the back for a sizeable group of people to sit, stand, and mingle with each other. I had a blueberry-based drink thats quite tasty. I would say that service was a little on the slow side, considering we had made a reservation for our group. However, their website is not currently working which I find quite frustrating. I enjoy being able to look through a restaurant's website to get an idea of what types of cocktails and appetizers are offered. Also, I find that websites are helpful for understanding what type of atmosphere a club offers.

OK so the ambiance is very cool. It's an old converted jail and they have outdoor lounge that is just fantastic on warm summer nights. And (if you want to pay) the drinks are good. BUT it is expensive.12-14 dollars a drink. I'll pass. Also it was a Monday night (not even that busy) and the waitress forgot about us several times, never coming to check on us and when we did finally manage to get her attention she forgot would forget to bring out orders. We had to reminder her TWICE that my friend had ordered a Guinness. It was so bad we had to convince him to leave some kind of tip.

Such a great bar, a great space, great atmosphere and drinks! I work in the neighborhood, and this has become my favorite 'happy hour' bar. Yes, I know we dont have happy hour, per say, in MA - but I have never been in the bar past 10 pm, and see it a lot as an after work bar. The space itself is great. It used to be the 'drunk tank' when The Liberty Hotel was still a prison. Great brick walls, high ceilings, and iron bars show off its former life... and ad an oddly warm and comfortable environment. The walls are also decorated with lot of mugshots of celebrities, etc. Its pretty cool! It is not an overly large place (in nice weather, there is an outside balcony), but good for singles, couples, and small groups. if you can, go to the back corner, there is a nice small section for two people. great if you are on a date. Plus, it has super high chairs that seem like thrones! 9and are comfortable). Just a great place to relax and enjoy a drink or two. I have not tried any on their 'specialty' drinks, but they make a great grey goose dirty martini - and offer olives stuffed with blue cheese instead of pimentos - a bonus in my book! The service has ALWAYS been top notch, and the cliental normally matches. If you want a nice, upper scale place to go out for drinks post work, or even later at night - it is definitely worth a check. Prices are in line with other Boston area bars of this nature, and the environment makes it 100% worth it! (and if you drink to much, you have a hotel to stay in right there, and the MGH redline is right out the door!)

Alibi is a great bar if you've go the $$ to drop. Best Apps and food at any Boston Bar and the best drinks as well. Inside can be on the crowded side but the atmosphere is very high end. The out side is even better if you can get a table or a fire pit your are going to have a very fun time, pinkie out. The biggest problem with Alibi is the prices you will be dropping $20+ per drink easy and their apps might as well be gold plated for the prices you will pay, however they are worth it if you can afford it. Don't be surprised if your turned away at the door for not dressing nice enough it's that kind of bar but they have the best Martinis in town.

My parents came to visit Boston for a few days, and I decided to take them to drinks at the Liberty Hotel since I work right next door. I arranged to meet them after work- at 5pm on a Wednesday. Alibi doesn't open until 5pm so it was pretty quiet when we walked in, only two other tables were occupied. The decor was interesting (jail bars/doors, brick walls, celebrity mugshots on the wall and on the coasters). Some of the backless chairs looked a bit uncomfortable- the furniture definitely had a "lounge" feel to it. It got progressively busier, and by the time we left around 6/615, it was somewhat crowded and noisy. We ordered a bottle of bubbly, 2 cocktails- Rehab and a Cosmo- and the truffle polenta french fries. The Rehab was surprisingly good- it had a mix of Stoli Orange, St. Germain and bubbly. The yummy truffle fries came with about 10 fries, but they were quite large- almost breadstick-like. We also saw a few delicious looking pizzas pass by us. The cocktails run about $12-13, the french fries were $9, and the pizzas ran about $15-17. The waitresses were all fairly pretty and dressed in black. They also all had a bit of attitude- a few times we were trying to get her attention as she walked by, and it seemed like she was purposefully not looking at us. It seemed like it had the ability to get pretty douchey as the night went on, and the service wasn't too great. But the cocktails and food are tasty, and the space is different and interesting. Alibi is someplace I'd go at least once (just to check it out) for after work drinks and food, if you don't care too much about price.

I loved every aspect of this bar lodged in the "drunk tank" of what was the Charles Street Jail. Alibi is a hot spot for locals and tourists alike to sip cocktails while enjoying late night snacking amongst a good crowd. The brick cell walls set are adorned with cheeky images of celebrity mugshots - aka, their "alibis," This hip spot also has an outdoor patio to enjoy drinks and catch some fresh air.

Definitely not a place to lounge since the seats are not that comfie. Came in for a quick drink before dinner. I wouldn't stay for more than one since the seat i was in had no back rest and no seat cushion. Typical hotel prices of dishing out 13 bucks for a drink. I wish I was Paris Hilton so I can go to all these Boston swanky joints!

I felt like I was back in LA. Drinks were like $12 a piece and you had to look fancy to get in. The ambiance was nice and it wasn't too hard to get a drink. A good place but I expect a little more when I'm paying so much for drinks.

I want to work in a bar where the waitstaff get an automatic 20% tip for coming around once every 45 minutes. I can't believe they required us to pay a 20% tip even though we waited so long for the waitress to come around that we finally just went up to the bar and ordered there. Our waitress still put 20% tip on the bar-ordered bill, which was paid for separately, because it was going to folks at her table and then kind of stumbled through "I'll bring these over to you". Yeah... thanks. 18% is a standard large-group tip, and you have to still earn that. It's a very nice bar, and the drinks are fantastic. The crowd is not my usual scene but fine for once in a while. How do they not have Frangelico, though?

I went to Alibi last night for a work thing. We were a group of 10-12 people and got really good service. Our waitress was patient while we took our time ordering drinks. The drinks were pretty interesting. The cocktails had pretty cute names like 'Cell block #4' and 'Dirty Harry'. I had the 'Rehab' which was pretty good. The blood orange martini with cointreau was kinda weak but it was a work thing so it was better to nicely composed. The best part was the food, which might not be saying much for Alibi since it is brought over from their sister restaurant- Harvard Gardens. We had truffle parmesan fries, steak and cheese spring rolls, and prociutto pizza. Some of our group had already been to Alibi and knew the fries were really good so we ordered two right from the start. The fries were in fact really good, the pizza was really good, but the steak and cheese spring rolls were quite poor. It tasted like steakums..... just not good. The settting is really cool, granted I am an architect, but the bar setting in the old jail is blended nicely. While the space is dark and moddy the famous mugshots are well lit. Always classy to see Paris Hilton, Jane Fonda, and Hugh Grant while you sit in the former jail. Overall I would go back for a beer and those truffle parmesan fries!

Not a bad place for predictable music, $10 drinks, and pretty people in business casual attire on a Saturday night. The lack of a cover is a bonus and though the dance floor is small, there's an outdoor area for when you need relief from the crowdedness.

Great Night in the Slammer! Alibi is a cool spot in the Liberty Hotel. The drinks were strong, service was good, and the pizza was actually pretty delicious. The only down side is that it's pretty small inside, and can be difficult to get a table because almost all of them are reserved for later in the evening. We managed to find one with 2 seats and snag a 3rd. I would not recommend this place for a group larger than 4 unless the outside patio is open or you plan to reserve a table.

Very good drinks here, though expensive and a great place to both see and be seen. We took a friend here for his last night in town before a move to Brooklyn and had a great time checking out the crowd, helping a bachelorette party fend off some unwanted knucklehead advances (my friends and I try to keep the knucklehead factor low amongst us, not always successfully but usually.) Didn't eat but the dishes we saw being delivered around us looked tasty. Would love to head back when the outdoor area is open. I agree with some other reviewers that when this place gets crowded it can be very difficult to move around. Given that it's a former jail and pretty solidly built I'm not sure they could do anything to alleviate that but it might be worth considering when it's time for an upgrade.

I don't know why there are three dollar signs. The cocktails may be pricey, but you can get a cold draft beer for $5. That is awesome for a place of this caliber. The patio is amazing, a wonderful place to relax with friends in the summer. I'd suggest a Wednesday or Thursday night. There was also a promotion going on with some Bicardi reps.

I went here with some friends from NYC and was very upset. Why? The bouncer would not let us in here since we were not on the guest list nor purchased bottle service. He informed us that EVERYONE in the bar was one or the other. Now, I was a little bit surprised since I have come here several times and have never been turned down. While my friends and I waited outside I asked a few guys how they got in and if they were on the wait list? Me: "How do you get on the guest list?" White Guy:" Honey, there is no guest list. You just sweet talk your way in and you're alot prettier than me!" Me: "What about bottle service? Did you purchase a table?" White Guy: "No. You don't need that?! You just walk in like you own the place" This exchange made me very flushed since I felt that my friends (3 asian people) were not being let in due to our skin color. I cited this to the bouncer who re-iterated that he was "not racist, everyone there was on a guest list and purchased bottle service" The manager then came over and apologized, let us in and told us that the bar was very diverse or as diverse as it could be in Beacon Hill. We went in and found that we were one of 6 other Asian people. I found this odd when a group after us was not admitted to this bar and oddly they were Asian. The group afterwards and I drank my cocktail by the entrance and counted the hordes of white people that were granted entry. I don't think that this is a coincidence.

Came here for a random Monday night date, and the food was worth enduring the date. My advice: get truffled polenta fries! It doesn't matter what else you order, I'm sure everything on the menu is great, but the polenta fries are great - gritty but smooth in texture, perfectly fried rectangles of mealy goodness. The lobster pizza was also good - the lobster tasted fresh and the crust was crispy. I can't comment on the weekend scene, but it seems like a nice place to chill and the décor is a decent conversation starter when all else fails... Bottom line: Get the polenta fries!

I had a birthday here- we had a great time getting dressed up, taking goofy pics with the celebrity mug shots on the walls, trying some delicious drinks, etc. We also had a few drinks in the Liberty bar upstairs which was also great- it definitely stood out that it's more of a late 20s/early 30s crowd which we really liked (as mentioned in some other reviews, the number of Boston colleges sometimes makes it seem that most of the bars are univerally filled with 21 year olds). It was a nice change and I'd definitely like to go back soon.

I attended a early week conference in town and was looking for a late evening casual place to relax and have some cocktails with coworkers. While Boston is a great city with charm, it doesn't have many late evening options on a Tuesday. Locals suggested the Alibi Bar at the Liberty Hotel. So we went. It wasn't packed but was busy with energetic patrons, had a great ambiance, served generous drinks, and last call was at 1:30 (much better than 10 at most places around this city). The fact that it was a real jail at one time with many of the original jail cell bars as a decor was cool. And you can't beat the celebrity mugshots on the walls for a conversation piece with your companions and a ice breaker with stranger patrons googling at them.

Tucked away in the corners of Boston and running on the lines of Cambridge, Alibi is a hidden gem that has allot to offer. First of all, whomever thought about turning a jail into a hotel...is a genious! What a great use of space. Second, Decor and also the overall ambiance of the hotel and loungue is a fantastic place to have a night out with the girls, toast to TGIF or get up an personal with your date. And Third, who doesn't want to feel what it is like to be locked up and have someone throw away the key or take your picture with a celebrity jailmate?! You can find me sitting underneath Hugh and Paris. Drink prices are fairly moderate and service is great. You'll never have a empty glass. The only downer I must say is their valet service...not too attentive and its a little pricey. Car pooling is advised.

I've been a frequent patron of Alibi since they first opened several years ago, so I thought it was time to give my two cents. I have celebrated a few special occasions here: 3 birthdays, and 1 Halloween party (upstairs was sold out..I have moments of procrastination). I have enjoyed every one of my birthdays that I've celebrated here. I'm in my mid 30's, which means my evening doesn't start at 11pm. You can reserve a table prior to 10pm for free which is great for us old folks who want to start at 8pm. The best part is, if the reserved party is a no-show then you get to keep the table (hooray!). That has happened on all 3 of my birthdays spent here. The food is great because they have it sent right over from Scampo. The girls who wait on you are friendly and accommodating. I've never come across any egos or attitude. The manager will even come over and check in to see how your table is. Now on a regular non-celebratory night, I must say I do prefer Fridays over Saturdays. I feel as though Fridays bring in a better crowd and it's not too crowded (the place is pretty narrow). Saturdays you are more likely to find the 22 year old wannabe socialites with their fake Chanel bags and their evil glares trying to snatch a financial dude, or an MGH physician. But I guess they need a place hang out at too. The music is a good mix of today and 90's hip-hop. I love me some Bell Biv Devoe. In the summer, the patio is great! Super comfy couches in a great space make for a delightful evening outdoors. Alibi is consistent, serves good food and drinks, and the staff is friendly. So all haters can just move to the left.

I came here with friends for the first time in the middle of the week for drinks, so not sure if the weekend experience is different. I had a dirty martini which was very good and a solid glass of red wine. We shared the pizza which was incredible and definitely lived up to my expectations. Our waitress was pretty attentive too, but again the place wasn't too busy because it was mid-week so that definitely helped with the attentiveness. I thought the seating arrangements were nice and intimate and that the prices weren't too bad for a Liberty bar. I would definitely come back again for some mid-week girl's night drinks and noshin'.

I am writing this review while in a post-surgery Percocet haze, so don't expect it to be useful, funny or cool. In fact, don't even expect it to make sense. I can't believe it took me so long to actually get to the Liberty Hotel! It had been on my list forever but it took a friend's birthday party at Alibi to get me there the other night. My friend had reserved the side room (the one with Hugh Grant's mug shot) for a party and it was a great space. The doors were open to the outdoor patio and it was a great night outside (until the downpour brought everyone running in). Had we not been in a sectioned off room, I think the place would have been too crowded for me, but luckily we were. I loved the atmosphere and the service was terrific but they ran out of Prosecco at about 9:00 on a Saturday night?! The hotel is beautiful and I would certainly go back to Alibi for drinks, but definitely on the early side again. I saw a line forming later in the night when I made a trip to the bathroom (I agree with Leighann, it's in a bad location) and I would never wait in that line. I'm not patient enough for lines. The outdoor patio is beautiful and I'd like to pretend it's overlooking someplace gorgeous, like South Beach (instead of the street). The valet service was fast and efficient (and yeah, it was $20 but on a rainy night, it's totally worth it). Though it's a gorgeous building, there was something a little perverse about having such a great time in a former jail that was shut down for inhumane treatment. I was telling my parents about he place on Mother's Day and my dad was all "My friend Tommy did time there."

I work just down the street from here. I ride my bike to and from work everyday and I've never noticed this old prison refurbished into a hotel before. I met up with a friend on a warm Sunday night and we sat outside on cushioned couches and ordered martinis. I had the Dirty Harry which is basically your typical dirty vodka martini with blue cheese stuffed olives. The olives were not so appetizing they looked more like cat food stuffed olives and didn't have that fresh blue cheese taste. We also ordered white truffle Parmesan fries served in a huge bento box, warm goat cheese cakes, and mushroom and ricotta pizza. The food was outstanding, but the best part of the evening was being able to sit outside under Boston skies during twilight. To continue down the prison theme, we got our bill along with a postcard with Mick Jagger's mug shot. Nice touch.

Thursday night on the patio - pretty full, but tables turned over quickly enough that we had a nice and spacious lounge spot. The drinks are the real deal - the bartender does not skimp on the alcohol. But I Don't Like Gin - my favorite; gin + watermelon puree Rehab - citrusy and fresh and surprisingly strong Prickly Pear Margarita - sweet pink margarita John Daly - pretty good, nothing special Amaretto Sour - strong! and not overly cherry Miller High Life - $4 and so so needed after those $12 drinks We also split an artichoke and prosciutto pizza, which was light and the perfect accompaniment to copious amounts of alcohol.

I dont get the hype about this place. I go here only because I live in beacon hill and its convenient. Went on sat night with hopes ogf hanging out on the patio. When I tried to go outside a bouncer told me the patio was for vip or guest list only-oh excuse me I didnt realize I was in vegas. This place tries to act way more upscale than it is. Wont be back even out of convenience....

I've always had an awesome time at Alibi. I frequent Alibi about once a month and usually on Thursdays. It's a great place to grab some grub and some yummy cocktails. It definitely helps to get friendly with the bartenders, as the drinks usually get stronger and stronger as the night goes on. The music is hit or miss, but more often than not I'm pretty pleased. I would definitely recommend snagging a table if you can though because it gets pretty crowded at times. The best part, is that at the end of the night, there are a million cabs waiting outside and you don't have to wait for more than 30 seconds to be on your way home. And if you leave before 12:30, the T is literally across the street. Alibi is definitely a time-honored Thursday favorite and I will continue to go back.

Darn. My teammates were looking for an informal-let's-try-something-different-and-fun place for our team outing. It is a very cool place. The pizza was absolutely delicious. We knew the prices were high, but seriously? How difficult would it have been to serve the burgers at the same time the lobster rolls were served? The burgers came out at least 10 minutes after the lobster rolls. And let me add that the French fries were absolutely ice cold. Yes, I know that I should be worrying about world hunger and global warming, and I do, but I just can't let this slide.

Extremely overpriced, but fun for a drink or two. The walls are lined with celebrity mug shots and the space is wonderful, the Liberty Hotel has a lot to offer and Alibi is a neat little hang out spot in an old jail. It's really cool to see how they turned the old cells and cell doors into a posh lounge. The people that go here, though, are kind of snooty and annoying. If not for the creative ideas for the space, I'd probably give it 2-stars.

I'm torn. I really, really want to like Alibi. I love the setting with all the brick, bars and mugshots. It's one of the few places where the bouncers were actually friendly at the door. But I think that's as much as I can say on the plus side. Maybe I just went on an off night. Well, maybe not an off night, but the wrong night. Maybe I should wait for summer to roll around so the infamous patio area is open and there's a little more wiggle room. Maybe I shouldn't go at 10pm on a Saturday night. Well, I did, in fact, go around 10pm on a Saturday night with Barbara S. and every few minutes we'd look at each other, as if to ask "What the hell?" And for some inexplicable reason, the coat check was closed? We were told there was a coat check...but it was closed. In the middle of winter. At peak bar hours. God only knows I love carrying around a bulky coat with me while I'm trying to balance a drink and dodge creepers at the same time... Drinks aren't necessarily overpriced but you'll be lucky to get what you ordered in the chaos of the bar area. Out of 6 drinks ordered, 3 were wrong but we couldn't correct it because the bartenders were completely overwhelmed with people. Oh, and the people... Maybe it was douchebag night. Did I miss the memo? Creepers everywhere. One guy poked me through a set of iron bars and asked if we could make out between the bars. Um, no thanks. Please go away. And when is it EVER acceptable to insult someone as they walk by? Again, MUST have missed the memo that it was douchebag night at Alibi. Serves us right for wanting to go out somewhere other than a dive bar on a Saturday night! All in all, I'm not sure I'd write it off entirely. I like the setting too much and the people who worked there were surprisingly nice. So, here's my plan: 1) get a larger group of people together, 2) try to reserve a couch area or nook to claim as our own for the evening, 3) show up earlier than peak party hour and 4) go on a night other than Friday or Saturday. Once that happens, I may be able to update my review. In the meantime, can someone please let me know if that douchebag memo goes out again? I'll need to prepare myself...

I really enjoyed my experience here. The atmosphere is extremely unique with the jail bars and celebrity mug shots. The drinks were wonderful, but the food was surprisingly delicious for such a small lounge! I had the truffle fries and the olive oil pasta and both were amazingly good!

Thank you, Alibi, for watering down our vodka during bottle service. We would have really regretted drinking all of that alcohol. Some bars would try to be sneaky about it; perhaps, a stolen shot here and there, topped off with water. No, you have balls. You steal a good half a bottle of vodka from paying customers and say fuck it, fill it up with water. And then, just for shits, you go and do it again. Thank you, Alibi.

This is a great entertaining place. Loved the scenery and artwork. i only got to preview the wine and apps. And both were above average. I would love to come back and spend more time on the menu and other parts of Liberty Hotel. It's a great place to throw a party.

went for a friend's bday last year and was advised to arrive "early", like 9pm. given, took my sweet old time and JUST missed it by the minutes. arrived about 9:30pm (still pretty early for many OTHER places to have a line), and saw at least 30 people waiting at the door already. ok it was friday (or saturday, something like that), but that doesn't mean i have to wait AN HOUR AND A HALF to get into a place!! starting at 9:30!!! and there were only some 20-30 people waiting!!! i've never had to wait that long to go anywhere, coz i'd just leave. if it wasn't a bday thing i would've turned straight back and gone home. worse yet, there are two lines which start from the same place, but the ends trail in different directions. so you better know which line you should be in, or your time is gonna go down the drain. and while my friend and i were waiting (good thing i bumped into another friend so we weren't bored out of our brains), we kept seeing the bouncers intermittently letting people through. they might have been hotel guests, diners at clink, people with "bracelets", what not. i don't care. but seeing that my line had NOT moved an inch (i kid you not--NOT EVEN ONE was let in) for the whole god damn hour while all these people were breezing us by, i really couldn't care less if this bar was cool or their drinks could make one fly. i've been standing here like an idiot, only glad that we weren't in the midst of winter bitterness. true, true, the concept is great and design hip and trendy. but like some reviewers say, the place was sooooo crowded service HAD to be sub-par. and it was so loud that you can't even scream your order back and forth with the waitress for less than 5 times before getting it right. maybe. since it was already so chaotic when we got inside, i never saw a proper menu to know about their specialty drinks. i just ordered what i know best and paid $12+ for it. yeap, pile that onto my "not so thrilled about this place" list as well. bathrooms are situated upstairs, at least they were on the night i was there. definitely find an excuse to go so that you could let yourself out of the cells and see the atrium--it's a beautiful scene. didn't know we could've skipped up to clink once in, but it wouldn't really matter anyway coz it was equally packed and probably equally--if not more--pricey up there. the crowd.... yeah, did see some gold-digging-looking girls, and most of the rest looked quite pretentious too. guys... a few hot ones amongst the general average. bottom line: are you the kind of person who wants to meet someone who frequents a place like this? only you know the answer. and yeah, it was pretty stuffy in there too, having sooooo many people cramped into a not-so-open space. maybe try there at 4pm (or whenever they open) to get a more lounge-y and less club-like experience. maybe then your $12+/drink would be mixed properly and worth every penny. but i wouldn't know that.

1st problem: Ugly girls. You would think an upscale bar like this would have hot chicks, well you're wrong. Overweight girls, no makeup on, butter faces, you name it. On the plus side, I've had a couple one night stands from this place. On the downside, they were both really ugly and I could barely even perform. 2nd problem: Bathroom policy. The freaking bathroom is outside the bar and then it's hard to get back into the bar afterwords. They gave me a bathroom card, but I lost it while making out with one of the ugly chicks described above. The doorman remembered me, but he wouldn't let me in without the bathroom card. Shouldn't he have been happy that I was helping to remove some of the ugly chicks from the bar? DOUCHE BAG. Even if you do get back into the bar, the bathroom is still a long walk, especially if you're on the outside patio. I had to squeeze through a bunch of fat chicks and sweaty dudes just to get back to the inside bar room, where I had to squeeze through more fat chicks and sweaty dudes just to get out to the lobby, where I had to squeeze through more fat chicks and sweaty dudes waiting in line before I finally made it to the bathroom. It's so freaking crowded I was worried I'd get STD's just by having to touch so many people. 3. The manager is this ULTRA DOUCHE BAG who has a short man/bald man complex. Dude is verbally abusive to guys in the bar for no reason at all. And his bouncer puppets follow suit. All together I would stay away from this bar. Too crowded, too many ugly people, too many douche bag employees, and too much effort just to make it to and from the bathroom.

I give it 1 star only because of the cool decor of the old jail cell and posters and patio looked pretty nice but thats it! Worst experience, place ever. You like snotty nosed, douchebags this is your place, sorry not for me. Came on a weekday after work with a friend, game happened to be on (yes i know its not a sports bar!) But i clapped for our team and i thought i was in a library. Anyways we sat at the bar and that day they were having some sort of speed dating event (i was not involved), my friend joined for a bit. I sat at bar watched the game, and apparently must have turned into casper the ghost because the bartender never came over to me; 20 minutes later when my male friend came back, she rushed right over (still ignoring me) and he asked for beers. Since they didnt know how to make a few drinks we asked for or didnt have basic items in stock. Everyone in there was so uptight, the prices so high, and the absolute RUDEST bartender. I couldn't take her non friendly, unprofessionalism anymore, my friend and I left for across the street to cheaper better atmosphere. She should be fired! And the clientele should get sticks outta their behinds! Nice hotel but dont waste your money going here!

I don't understand how anybody could hate this place. I absolutely LOVED it, and I've been to pretty much every bar/club/lounge in this city. This is the best of the best. My girlfriends and I went here after work on a Friday night, and we had a fantastic time. The decor is really fun. I loved the jail bars accenting the walls, and the framed pictures of celebrity mugshots were a nice touch. I didn't find it pretentious or stuffy. It was a cool bar, and the staff was really attentive and friendly. Our waitress was wonderful. She was always smiling, and she made the 3 of us feel comfortable and was always close by, ready to grab us more drinks. The cocktails are $12 a pop, so if you're looking for a cheap night out, this isn't the place for you. Faneuil Hall bars might be more your speed. As far as I'm concerned, you get what you pay for. I could hang out in a shit hole bar in the city and pay $5 a drink, or I could go to this place, which has everything going for it, and pay $12. I'd rather pay the extra money. I highly recommend the Suffragette City cocktail. It's the house Cosmo. Delicious, fruity, but not too sweet and didn't taste like rubbing alcohol either. I can't wait to go back when it gets warmer to take advantage of the outdoor patio. I wish there were more places in the city like this. The hotel itself is beyond gorgeous. I was pretty blown away by how beautiful it was. Those circular windows were simply amazing.

Alibi is a great new addition to the Boston nightlife scene. This bar and the entire Liberty Hotels design is so cool. I can't believe it used to be a prison. Actually I can because they left much of it intact throughout the hotel, which gives the place a great decor. The place was packed on a Saturday night but the line seemed to move quickly for me, I got there around 11:30pm. They don't focus too much on the loud music here or any of the bars in the Liberty. It is definitely a lounge experience. The Liberty Hotel seems to attract a little bit of an older crowd which is good. I only had a couple problems with Alibi, the main one being that it was just a little too dark in there, they could have made the lights a little brighter. I did like all of the infamouus and famous mugshots on the wall though. Now I'm not a big dancer but I was surprised to see that there was no dance floor at all. All in all the Liberty Hotel and Alibi are great and I can't wait to go back.

can you say poseur? The place was filled with 20-something women, 30 something men that all thought they were very special. While the bar is cute, it is incredibly small. The drinks were ok, not watery as some critics have stated here. But then, I was drinking simple Bacardi and diet. It appeared to me that they were keeping way too many people in line just to make them think this place is ultra exclusive. We scammed our way in by telling the bouncer we were guests.( I guess we are old enough to believably look like patrons of the hotel our age, compared to the patrons of the club?) If you are over 40 or approaching 40, Alibi is not for you. The tables and seating are all reserved. Be prepared to stand if you don't reserve a table (yes, there's a minimum). It's small. The staff seems bothered by having to work. The crowd is young. Unless you want to go rub elbows with eurotrash and 20 something girls, I would avoid Alibi. There was nothing at this bar that made me want to go back. Even the music was unimpressive. Maybe it's just my age, or maybe everyone is just trying to hard to be cool.

Alibi's a pretty trendy spot in Boston--interesting decor (used to be a prison), with dim lighting and bars everywhere. It's kind of funny, I feel like this is one of those places where old guys come to pick up pretty young things. And pretty young things come here to find sugar daddies. Not sure if that's the case, but that's just the vibe I get when I'm here and look around... I spotted Kid Rock here once, with his massive entourage of big old guys. In a big blue hat, he sat in a corner while his bodyguards shoo'd people away. Then he left, slews of girls asked for photos with him and he refused. I dunno, kinda douchey, in my opinion (esp when you have about 3 fans left in the world), but I guess celebs will be celebs. If you want to go to a pretty lounge with friends, this is a pretty good place to go. Every Thursday there's a fashion show upstairs in the hotel lobby, so it's something cool to watch.

Apparently, this is a hot spot in Boston. I'm out of the loop. I came here for the first time on Saturday night. This cool, sleek bar is dimly lit. My friends and I found a corner table. An attentive waitress came over and took our drink orders. I got a Dirty Harry (olive juice, vodka garnished with bleu cheese stuffed olives) and it was the best dirty martini I've ever had. That's not saying much since I think I've only had one before. I tried a sip of my boyfriend's White Russian and it was better than most I've had also. My friends got martinis not off the specialty drink list and they were very unimpressed. I wouldn't come back here because I'm just not trendy enough to fit in here and I don't like spending 12 bucks on a drink. But it was cool to check it out once.

The outdoor patio is where it's at! Although the inside looked pretty nice too, it t was just such a perfect night to be outside! It was crowded (on a Saturday night, I wouldn't expect less) but there was still enough room to move around and maneuver your way up to the bar. Finally got to try a Caipirinha (Brazilian drink) made with Beija cachaca! It was nice and strong, and very fresh! I like that it's on the fancier side, so you have an excuse to get a little dressed up! As you might then expect, it's a little on the pricier side, but definately worth it! I would definately go back next time I'm in Boston!

came here during restaurant week and this place was awesome. great wine selection and for my meal i had some kind of steak grilled with salsa verde sauce/green chili and it was so good- cooked perfectly and not fatty. The ambiance is what makes this place awesome it is inside of an old jail so it is very unique. great for date night.

This bar has some really stellar points: cool ambiance inside, good strong drinks, and an awesome patio where you can actually sit on sofas and talk to strangers without shouting at the top of your lungs! Two things take what would otherwise be a 4-5 star review down to three, though: the security and the bartenders. The security is downright oppressive. They're not just counting capacity; after a certain hour they cut access to the patio off unless you're staying at the hotel. You can stand in line, but sometimes you end up spending your whole night sitting there. Protip: they use gender-specific cards whose color changes by night. People tend to drop these, so keep your eyes peeled. You should also ask people of the same gender as you on the way out if you can have their card. The bartenders can be infuriating, too. It's pretty clear that they hire women for their looks, which is expected to some degree, but I wind up waiting an infuriatingly long time for my drinks or even to close out. I've noticed bartenders tend to take people from the same spot every time...they don't take note of people around the edges, so you're better crowding around the register. I tried just tipping 20$ per two-person round to see if that incentivized better service, but it just resulted in my drinks being pure gin for the rest of the night. That's certainly a nice bonus, but I probably spend 25% of my time at this bar just waiting for bartenders, and that sucks. Anyways, despite all this, they still have a good thing going, and I suppose you can chalk most of these issues up to excessive popularity. I have better nights here than many places, but I'd avoid Alibi if you're in a cranky mood.

Alibi if unaware, is the outdoor patio situated at the Liberty Hotel. Alibi serves a great function as a daytime patio for cocktails and lounging as well as an evening bar scene when you would like the option of indoors and out During the day scene, I would recommend Alibi as a good place to sit out with a group and enjoy the sun and a few (slightly expensive) but tasty cocktails. During really nice days, it does get a bit crowded, but it is well worth it if you can get one of the couches. Although these couches are no longer in the best of condition since the place has opened, they still make for a comfy seating arrangement. In ordering for cocktails, I would recommend wines or one of the specialty cocktails, but have found that martinis don't always come out well here. For food, I would stray away from the Lobster Pizza and instead go with the Bianco w/ Burrata. The cheese on the lobster pizza is a strange blend and never actually melts all the way down. The crust is also typically soggy and really makes a mess when trying to eat and kill a cocktail at once. In terms of the night scene, this is a great spot if the patio is open. People will typically float between the patio and indoors and will be quite social between the couches and standing room. If there is one suggestion I could make however, I would recommend a bigger outdoor bar and at least two bartenders on at all prime times. I have more than once been quite frustrated by either lack of service or a half drunken bartender with no sense to work the whole bar. Sundays here are also pretty good, as the scene is far less packed indoors and out, and the music and cocktail service keep things entertaining.

This place's whopping two stars are coming from the fact that is used to be a Suffolk County jail house and how cool it really is inside. The atmosphere - I'll give it to Alibi/Clink/Liberty Bar. It is a nice place. It is a well decorated, comfortable, very cool spot. Upscale, sophisticated and classy. I really enjoyed being inside the building, lots to catch the eye and occupy the imagination. Dark colors, contrasting wall hangings, dim, warm lighting casts a faint glow around you. You can almost hear the prisoners of an era gone by walking down the hall, their chains "clinking" with them. Now, if it weren't for all the damn people inside... The bartenders - jerks who only pay attention to the fat business type flopping his Rolex-claden wrist / the squealing girl whose boobs are about to pop straight outta that top onto the counter in front of you. The drinks - over priced and under mixed. They throw a fistful of ice into a small glass, splash a little liquor in there and top if off with a shot of juice. Horrible, horrible mixed drinks. Do not do it. And the beers, normal beer, but way over priced. Why the hell am I standing here paying 6 + for a beer to stand around with a bunch of lame ass people who all think they are the star of the evening? Puh-leez. The patrons - douche bag bartenders, the douche bag patrons aren't far behind. These people are all trying so hard to be hollywood and big business that it almost feels like someone held a costume party and the invitation said: "Dress like THAT guy". Ew. And yes, one night, I was a part of that douce bag crowd. That's because I wanted to see what this place was all about and i didn't read the Yelp reviews first. Shame on me. Anyways, check it out for the thrill of being inside an old jail house. Just be sure to throw on your Jolex, roll up the sleeve on that blazer and slap your Jackson-clutching hand onto that damn bar. Don't miss the trashy-trying-to-be-classy girls in too-tight mini dresses sipping on over priced ice-water on the other side of the bar. Don't worry, they're DTF and probably can't see how ugly you really are through all that mascara anyways.

I thought I already reviewed this place. Is Yelp losing my reviews? I met up with some friends midweek so there was no line - there usually is a LONG ONE on weekends. I love the prison layout and some of the original materials used when this place was actually a prison. You gotta also love the mugshots of the celebs that have disapponted their parents (e.g. Paris, Lindsay etc.). The drinks are decent but pricey. The bartenders have a bit of an attitude for what reason, I have no idea. The place is dark and gets cramped. There are much better bars in Boston to go than here.

The best thing about the Alibi room is the decor; having been converted from a jail it retains the brick infrastructure and iron bars from its previous life. There are entertaining mug shots on the walls, and the dark lighting is appropriate for this type of bar. Where it falls apart is in the bartenders. On a Friday night, there should be more than two bartenders working to ensure you don't have to wait 10 minutes for a simple drink. The flat screen TV above the bar was set to Dr. Oz, which was a stark and disappointing contrast to the pricey drinks and dimly-lit interior. The service was also sub-par for the two of us, although admittedly we weren't dressed in formal attire like most of the clientele. The good thing is that if you know the bartenders cousin, she'll comp you drinks and shots while the other customers have to wait for the over-priced bill.

So I don't actually enjoy going to this bar that much because I'm not trendy enough to fit in with the crowd. However, this place gets 4 stars for the decor alone. 1 star- Exposed Brick 2 stars- Jail bars 3 stars- Celebrity mugshots (Lindsay Lohan's still cracks me up everytime I see it.) 4 stars- Creepy Lighting This place definitely feels like the former jail that it is which makes it even cooler. The drinks are good, but a bit pricey of course. Sometimes it can be hard to get to the bar to order your drinks because it is super tiny. The only reason I don't love it is because it can be super packed with trendy professionals. If you get there earlier or later on an off night, you can avoid some of this if it's not your scene. If it is what you are looking for, then this is the best bar in town for it!

Love love alibi. Awesome place, awesome decor, ridiculously awesome patio. But the last time I was there it was the final stop of the night for my group. We got there at midnight and already they had closed down entry. Even though people were constantly flooding out of the place. "Hey can we get in? I just saw about 20 people leave..." "Sorry, we're not that kind of place" What kind of place are you? We were forced to get a shitty drink at the shitty lobby bar Clink and we all left pissed off. It's a shame, because Alibi could have gotten 2 more hours worth of drinks out of us. Feh. I'll be back. Earlier in the night next time...

I literally come here twice a week. It's my favorite bar in the Boston area. There is always a great crowd and incredibly fun bartenders mixing up delicious drinks behind the bar. The jail atmosphere encourages some sinful behavior so bring your drinking hat and dancing shoes. Don't know what to order? Have Nico make you up some of his famous shots, their always delicious. Everyone from the doormen to the bartenders make your night out one to remember (hopefully) so go enjoy!

Went there for a friends birthday and to check out a band (session 450). Its a nice place with a slightly older crowd. The upstairs is a lounge type of setting where the band played, with a more club type place (alibi) downstairs. Don't be fooled by having to get "bottle service" at Alibi just dress properly and you can get in. Drinks are I think pretty much the same price as most nicer places, and the girls that were there were very attractive, most of them had a nice little buzz going on so starting a conversation was pretty easy! I'd go again for sure but will probably wait til the summer so its a little nicer out! Just watch out because if your a guy like me thats drug free your going to meet a lot of females who aren't... I guess nothing really has changed in the club world...

Good bar with a seemingly nice patio - given the weather we stayed inside. This is not your normal hotel bar with a few weary travelers.... this place was rockin. There's a food menu but it's limited and the drinks are a bit pricey. Despite the cool atmosphere and music there wasn't much of a dance floor, and it was too loud to really talk so it left me wanting a little more.

Being a fan of the dimly lit cocktail dens in Manhattan, I'm glad to have found Alibi here in Boston. The Liberty Hotel's jail house motif is fun and perfectly suited for feeling like you're a 1920s rum runner flaunting the anti-saloon league. The Alibi's drinks are pretty well executed with the fruity drinks being appropriately sweet and the bourbon drinks bracing. Fresh fruits and juices, traditional ingredients like fee bros bitters and great liquors basil hayden's and cazadores. If I had one gripe, it'd be the use of machine ice in all the drinks.

Note: I have only been here on New Year's Eve so this review cannot accurately describe a typical weekend evening. But the New Year's Eve party was lots of fun! Alibi is a great little hotel bar that's more like a trendy downtown hangout. The whole atmosphere is cool with the prison bars, themed cocktail menu, and celebrity mugshots adorning the walls. The drinks are strong and the staff is super friendly. There was a DJ for the New Year's party, but I was told that they do not normally have one or live music. Not a place to get your groove on if that's what you're looking for. I will definitely be back to sit at the bar and enjoy my cosmo.

Nice room, comfortable, dark and not too noisy. Bars from the old jail add something for those who've never actually been behind them, I'd imagine, not so much, for those who have. We'd had "dinner" upstairs at Clink and came down to Alibi to get a last drink and talk. Then we ordered a pizza and french fries to fill the gaps left by a 3 course dinner upstairs. Seriously, 3 courses and we were HUNGRY! I'd go back to Alibi, never to Clink. Also, do not valet park...cost us $40.00.

This place is unique to say the least! Awesome atmosphere, exposed brick, original jail bars still in place, soft lighting, mug shots of famous types all over the place, great music that is not to loud so you can still have a conversation. The wines by the glass are full of flavor and great drinks too! I will be back for many visits.

This is a great place to for drinks after work. The people you'll find will be in their 30's average pretty yuppie but there's nothing wrong with that and they're mostly Bostonians. It's usually full but not as much so that you wouldn't be able to walk. The waitresses are cute, friendly, patient and very efficient. Especially Nicole with whom I fell in love last night! The renovated hotel is very upscale but that's another review. They play random "Pub" music and I'm giving them only 4 stars because of the 30 dollar valet fee. That's just ridiculous, so I'd recommend that you take a cab to get here. It's right outside of the red line at Beacon Hill.

I had some time to kill on a Thursday after work, so I decided to check out a new spot. Just as so many have said before me the building is impressive. Since I went straight to the bar I couldn't get a sense of the overall size of the room. Service was prompted and courteous...I didn't get anything too fancy, just an amstel light which was priced the same or less in some cases as bars in Downtown Boston. I can definitely see how on a Friday or Saturday evening the place can get pretty crazy.

If you ever need to find "irony" on a scavenger hunt, stop by this place and chuckle at the burly guards doing their best to keep the "casual chic" masses out of former jail cells. And then go get drinks somewhere with less gimmick.

FINALLY I made it to Liberty last night. I think I need to see a room there, first of all. The place is gorgeous, and I love the vaulted ceiling and chandeliers in the upstairs lobby and how much brick they preserved. My kind of space! I popped into Clink just to check it out, and while it looks pretty cool, Alibi definitely drew me in. LOVE the ambiance, the exposed brick, the mugshots everywhere, the cell bars and little nooks and crannies, ... They have Guiness and Blue Moon on tap which is always a plus, and while their cocktail menu seemed small, I ordered a pomegranate martini (not on the menu) and it was delish. We were starving and asked if there was a bar food menu or even snacks, but per the waitress, Alibi was the holding cell for the drunks, and while it used to serve to sober people up a bit, now they just want to liquor us up! Without a doubt I will make many more visits to Alibi. Big fan!

Went here with the girls and boys last Friday after work. Suggestion: get there before 7, it starts to get crowded and no seats. The place is really cool. Food is not so good. Overpriced and tasteless. Drinks are expensive too and out waitress was dumb as rocks. I ordered a gin and tonic and pinot noir for my friends. She comes back with 2 gin and tonics and proceeds to ask, did you ask for 2 gin and tonics. I tell her no, a pinot noir. She comes back with a pinot grigio. I tell her again, that i ordered a pinot noir, she tells me that she only listens to the first word and assumed pinot grigio..WOW! my first drink, I was a raspberry stoli and cranberry. She comes back with raspberry stoli and tonic. Ugh. I give up! Cute girl, but dumb as rocks. Other than that, I love the spot as its a really cool place to hang out after work before the nite starts. I wouldn't make it a regular happy hour spot as cocktails burn a hole in your wallet.

I went on a Tuesday (late) and there was a lady hunched over by the front door in the lobby with 2 guys in suits. I think they were the guards. They were trying to get that obscenely drunk women the hell out of there quietly. I'm pretty sure she ended up leaving in an ambulance with alcohol poisoning. Then we went inside and some random girl, wasted out of her mind, started to dance with me. Weird stuff. Then this sketch ball with a handkerchief on his head came in, didn't buy a drink, and paced back and forth freaking us out. hahahahahahaha! I suppose it was a Tuesday... Actually, I had tons of fun but, you know...

So bad. This place is trying REALLY hard to be New York, but what the managers/staff don't realize is that the truly good places in NY or anywhere else have good service in addition to having cool decor/vibe. The crowd is full of waspy people with no style.. think corporate dudes in khakis and button downs. I went for a fundraiser here a few weeks ago and I was just shocked, appalled really, at the manager. She was so rude to the person organizing the party. It was really really cold that night- she got into an argument with the organizer (but the party brought like 150 people on a wednesday!) and threw open the doors to the outside and tossed all her stuff outside! I shouldn't have gone back, but I didn't learn my lesson. I went back for a horrible half hour last week. Long line but was empty inside. First clue of a sucky place. The drinks were really expensive and watered down. All the servers had major attitude and just spoiled the place, which actually has a lot of potential. The music was really lame (think 1997) and too quiet to hear, on a bad speaker system. The other reviews are right- there are a lot of old guys who are in the hotel on business trying to pick up younger women.

I love most of what they did with this building - that huge open atrium, the bits and pieces of remaining prison hardware, the decorative window mullions. They definitely let the kitsch in with names like alibi and clink, and using those mug shots of celebs on the alibi walls is a good novelty but gets old fast. Maybe they'll rotate new ones in, or pop art them up - the bill gates speeding one in a 4-color block like the Windows logo would be a nice touch. Anyway, I'm glad this place is user friendly after looking at it from the Longfellow Bridge for all these years. And you've gotta believe there are some good ghosts.

I'm so disconnected from "the scene" that maybe by now all the people who wrote about the ridiculous wait have all gotten in and moved on to waiting at some other trendy spot. If not, then here's some advice for those wanting to check it out - go after work during the week (like Tuesday or Wednesday night). I went on a Wednesday night- the place was very quiet and our party pretty much had the outside patio to ourselves for a while. The cocktails were a bit pricey ($13), but nicely presented and strong enough that I didn't mind paying a little extra. I'd recommend the "Guns & Roses" (Hell ya). We had attentive service (then again there were like 20 of us, so I'm sure they wanted to keep the liquor flowing) and plenty of room to hang out on the sofas or mingle near the tables. I've heard the lobby bar is also a hot spot- perhaps I'll check that out too sometime..... during the week. Say it with me people....

Great drinks, great atmosphere. But beware - they lost my card and when they couldn't find it, they said they don't have it and to cancel the card. No apologies. Fine. When I went out to explain to my friends, the bouncer standing outside said that they didn't lose it and that they returned it and I myself lost my card and I was simply lying about it. The manager was patient but the bouncer was verbally abusive.

This place was fun just to check out and absorb. Alibi has a bar area with some loungy seating, which is the area with the photos of the celeb mugshots, their crimes, and their alibis. Then there is the outdoor patio which also has a bar, and a nice garden area. Inside the hotel upstairs there is Clink. It was nice having the different areas to walk to and explore. Drinks are expensive. The bartender downstairs worked quickly and the margarita-ish drink I had in a highball glass was yummy. The bar they had open upstairs outside of Clink was packed, we waited there in the crowd for 20 mins and then decided to leave when the crowd in front of the bar did not move. At the beginning of the night there were the typical 30 year olds with the rings in their pockets doing their rounds but by the end of the night it was mainly packed with 20-somethings.

Went on a Friday night in February and had a great time! We stayed at the hotel, which made it that much better, but we had friends meet up with us and valet parking was $20 which is pretty convenient. I made a reservation for 8 people at 9PM because all these reviews kept saying how crowded it gets and when we got there at 9PM, it was already in full swing. The couch they reserved for us could fit 3 and then there was one little stool thing someone could sit on... hardly enough seating for 8, but the place is not that big, so it was nice to have even a small area to hang around. The inner section around the bar was packed, but luckily, we had a server and she was extremely attentive!

Overall a decent enough place. Very mixed crowd - late 20s to late 30's in the main. Still a few teething pains I think - no draft beer, a lot of staff out collecting empties but not that many actually behind the bar (although the bartender I had didn't mess about). I think this will be a good bar once the newness thing passes and it finds its niche. The one thing I really disliked is the design; because of how they've retained a lot of the original decor, the actual bar section is separated from the rest by a wall. This means it can get very crowded if you're trying to get a drink. At one point there was a tense scene behind me cos a big sweaty drunk guy (yes, that guy) kept lurching into people - the confined space meant everyone was feeling the pain. Other than that though, it was alright. I wouldn't rush back, but I wouldn't protest either

it's like hell with cocktails and a line to get in.. noisy, dark, good for single people (i'm definitely not single)...all around entertaining, if not a bit high maintenance. must be the crowd of young yuppies and famed boston athletes. strangely, i like it. it's not my style and i do not hang there much, but i think a lot of people would like it a lot. it's different than any other posh bars in boston, so i think that's a plus. as far as upscale, sexy bars, you really can't beat alibi.

Beautiful outside courtyard. Very helpful waitstaff. Absolutely delicious cocktails--try the Jailbait on the rocks. The pizzas and polenta fries were also awesome. If you want a swanky atmosphere and good drinks, Alibi is a great place.

Located within the Liberty Hotel, Alibi is a really trendy and hip setting whose atmosphere doesn't quite live up to the setting. The walls are littered with celebrity mug shots, from Lindsay Lohan to Hugh Grant, making for an easy and fun topic of small talk. Plenty of places to sit down inside or out if you get there relatively early on a Friday or Saturday, but man does it get busy in a hurry! Bouncers do a good job of keeping ratios balanced so it's not a bro-fest, but there plenty of single dudes hawking around girls. The drinks aren't cheap and while they're good and have some amusing nicknames, they're nothing out of this world. My "dirty harry" was solid but the blue cheese olives weren't that great and the martini could've come out more chilled. Service was also unimpressive. My friends and I were having a great conversation so we weren't drinking heavily and I think our waitress was less than excited about this. We got asked several times whether we wanted the check and there was a sense of disappointment that the three of us only ordered 6 drinks total. That said, at $12-13 apiece, there's not much IMO she should complain about - tips on a $70 tab for an hour or two isn't bad when we could've just ordered a bunch of the vastly cheaper draft beers and ended up with a bill half the size. All in all, I'd go back because it's one of the few places in the area you can go that's a bit upscale without feeling too old, but I doubt I'll make it part of a regular rotation for weekend drinks.

I think I'm starting to hate Alibi. Sure, the jail bars are cool but that is pretty much where the cool factor ends. With Alibi you have two options: Option 1: Go on an off night. I don't know what this would be like for a guy but I'm guessing you would spend most of your time trying to hit on the bartender/waitress and then get shot down. Sounds sucky but nothing compared to what you have to go through as a girl. As a girl you can expect to be hit on by a plus 50 yr old man, who might or might not be a baller. You can be sure he will try to buy you a drink but who cares? Not worth the price tag. This such scenario occurred this past Tuesday night. A commercial airline pilot hit on me and my roommate, asked to buy us a drink and we said NO, averted eye contact and kept talking. This was the first round of things we did to get him to go away, any sane person would have left us alone. Now, it might sound cocky of me to talk about this guy obsessively hitting on us...except that this guy was the epitome of creepiness. Old, bald, glasses, ponch, cheap suit and he told my roommate that she looked like she needed to have someone that would 'take care of her'. G.R.O.S.S. Usually I don't mind chatting with an older guy at a bar, they usually provide better conversation. However, older guys have no ability to discern the 'get the fuck away from us' vibe. Which we put up faster than the Starship Enterprise puts up their shields when the Klingons attack. We were only half way done with our drinks but the asshole wouldn't stop touching our legs and back. We asked him not to and he still wouldn't stop. So, I grabbed the waitress, shoved money in her hand and we RAN away...making the critical error of saying that we had to meet someone at Harvard Gardens. We get to HG and breath a sigh of relief...a nice (young) bartender named Rob came over and we told him that we couldn't be happier after getting out of Alibi. We put in our order and got back to our girl talk when, I see my friends eyes get huge and a frightened look take over her face. I turn around and the creepshow followed us! Long story short (well not that short clearly) the guy tried to talk us up again, we moved tables, he followed us again, at which point I gave the 'save us' eyes to the bartender and he came up and made the jerk leave. Thank god. So, if you couldn't tell from that...I wouldn't suggest going to Alibi on an off night. Those creepshows lurk there Sun through Wed for sure. Option 2: Go on a Thursday/Friday/Saturday. Plan to get there early or they will make you wait in a line OUTSIDE. Ew. I don't wear skirts and dresses to go out and then wait outside, especially to get into a bar that is packed and serves 15 dollar martinis. There will be cute guys and girls there to be sure, but they are probably too cool for you. Definitely too cool for me. So I better stick to my usual scene where all the cheap non profit kids hang out. So, if I were you I would SKIP Alibi. Not worth it. But, it might be nice to go on a date...so, if that was the case I might lose my bad attitude. PS...Clink upstairs is almost always WAY less crowded. So give that a shot if you're dying to check out the liberty.

Drinks are pricy and not fabulous but the atmosphere is nice especially with the doors open or the outside patio. It is worth going before it gets to crowded later in the evening.

After reading the reviews here - many negative - my cougar gals pals and I decided to give it a try this past Saturday night. We won't be back. First of all - yes there was this long line (we didn't arrive until ~ 10:30). Thankfully some lovely 30ish gal told us to go inside - tell the guy blocking the main doors that we were hotel guests and then enter the place from inside the hotel. We did...and went up to the coat check which is located right outside the Ballroom (YES there is one although they are so slow it is a nearly painful process). We then took those elevators down to the first floor and walked up to the door of Alibi. Bouncer said they were "at capacity" and there was a line outside. We responded that we were staying in the hotel...and tuh-dah! we were in! Now we all are smart enough (I hope) to want the capacity of the place to be monitored for fire safety (think the Station Nightclub fire!). But that's not what's going on here...the place was easily half empty. It IS very small but when I tell you they are playing games with this - believe it. There were at least 2 tables that were EMPTY - we easily snagged one. As far as clientele...well, the age group was slightly younger than we expected but we can hold our own so that wasn't a big concern ;o) I'd estimate the average age to be 28-32. The thing that was most troublesome was that it was all either couples or gaggles of chicks! Drinks were priced as expected, and my two companions didn't complain about drink strength (which appeared here as an issue a number of times). Interesting that the bartenders have a bit of trouble tallying up our tab- the first round was $20 and the second $18 (once we went upstairs to the lobby bar it was $24!). My impression was this was going to be a slightly upscale bar, yet my imported beer was unceremoniously handed to me without a glass. When I asked for a glass, I got an eye roll...and a HOT glass, fresh from the dishwasher! I have had beer all over the world and understand that it is served warm in some locales...however, the Northeast of the United States is not one of them! We went back upstairs to the lobby bar (which includes the "La Grande Dame bar"/Veuve Clicquot bar concept. It was very busy with everyone packed into one quarter of the very large space. There was a far better ratio of men/women in comparison to Alibi. However, the same round of drinks was $6 more (of course, this time I got a cold glass for my beer - and without even asking!). Not sure pretentious is the word I'd use to describe either Alibi or the lobby bar as that is extremely negative, but let's just say that the place is trying really hard to be Sobe's Bed or Niki beach and Boston isn't really that "kind of town". When a Mr. Chase informed my very hot blonde cougar friend that he was despondent over "losing $30 million" we knew it was time to go! The hotel itself is fascinating (as much as a hotel can be) and it's in a great location. I could see going here for dinner or perhaps a romantic overnight. I would not recommend bringing a date to one of these bars....it wasn't intimate nor were either of them all that comfortable (lack of seating/uncomfortable seating).

Only reason why I give this place 3 stars is b/c of the atmosphere... Food here isn't very good at all (for the price)... Service is OK, not anything to brag about... Again, only came here b/c it's inside the Liberty Hotel. I wouldn't recommend here for dinner experience, but for late night drink, it's definately a nice place.. If you want a nice hang out place at night on the weekend, this is definately a hip place to be... The crowd was descent but I've definately seen better...

I finally paid a visit to the new Liberty Hotel last night, on the recently refurbished site of the old Charles Street Jail. Now, in addition to all the luxurious accoutrement of a boutique hotel, it boasts two bars: Clink, in the upper lobby, and Alibi on the first floor. Clink occupies the open area at the top of the lobby escalators, beneath a magnificent 90-foot rotunda (the former indoor exercise facility for the inmates). There is a smallish dining room with a tasting menu, but most of the action is with the bar patrons out front [in the lobby]. The building's architecture is phenomenal to gaze at, but sadly, the bar itself doesn't provide much ambiance. While Clink is very bright (too bright) and spacious, Alibi is very dark and sultry. It maintains elements of the old jail, including original brickwork and cell doors, plus themed updates like celebrity mug shots (Lindsay Lohan, Frank Sinatra, Devine Brown...). It, too, has a full bar, but a limited choice of specialty cocktails and no food. It seems better suited to "date night", with a fair amount of 2-person high-top tables and intimate nooks for enjoying cocktails and conversation. There are several areas for larger groups to congregate, but the floor space is limited, and the tiny little stools clustered around low tables are rather uncomfortable. Alibi does have a large outdoor seating area, however, which will surely be popular in warm weather. Get there early if you plan to go anytime soon - as with any new establishmentn in Boston, it's subject to very long lines by 9:30pm.

Really enjoyable ambiance and inventive cocktail list. The food menu is a bit sparse and service on the slow side.

Okay, I admit it...I didn't want to like Alibi. Or at least I didn't think I would like it. I'm not normally big on trendy places, big crowds of pretentious people who go out to places just to be seen, expensive drinks, etc. Well, Alibi, you surprised me. Pleasantly surprised me. I was there last night for a professional networking event. The ambiance is pretty darn cool. The layout is a bit tough to navigate when it's crowded and, as many others have stated, the bathroom is outside the bar which is a pain but for me, it's managable. Insider tip...The valet will check your coat for you if you ask nicely! The drinks are expensive ($9 for a simple mixed drink) but they're high quality. I didn't try their food so I cannot comment on that. I will definitely return to Alibi (and to the bar upstairs in their lobby) but likely not on a weekend...I don't have a desire to press my luck here.

I love that this place used to be a jail and they actually have mugshots on the walls from various celebrities who decided to involve themselves in criminal behavior. However it is way to small and entirely way to crowded for its size. I didn't have to wait in line because I was on "the list" (I know Im special) but got there around 10 and was told that if I was in line I probably wasn't getting in which is just lame, seriously its only 10. I also didn't pay for a drink and if I did I probably would have been even less impressed. It obviously is the new "hot spot" in Boston so you had you typical crowd for such places which really isn't my scene but whatever it was alright, would I go back, sure if I didn't have to wait in line or pay for a drink :) 3 stars because the place was kinda cool and thats as generous as I will get... at least for now

Went here for a post-wedding bash. The atmosphere was great, the waitstaff was great, and the outdoor patios were cool. - 1 star for the fact that the drinks- for the price- were pretty weak. Ordered a pizza, and it was fresh and tasty. The male bartender was wicked hot. On a side note, I have to mention that there was about 20-30 of us, but our reservation was at 7- so I can't really speak to shitty door treatment. I did step out for a smoke (ya, ya i know- cancer and all that) and the line was wrapped around the block- at about 10:30- so if you want to check this out w/o having to deal with insane crowds, I'd go early.

Totally buzz-worthy. The place is very different then the typical boston scene, has a nice hip vibe with a dash of obscurity minus the arrogance. Great fusion concoctions and nice crowd. Would def come again.

I've been here twice but must still be at newbie status as I haven't experienced the extreme upsides (chatty bar staff, excellent drinks) nor the extreme downsides (long lines, egomaniac bouncers, bad pick up lines - Cara P. I feel for you!). Haven't tried the food here yet, just drinks and they're pretty good, but not $13 good. Standing room only both times (and that was arriving between 7-8pm) and in bar land that can really only mean two things - one, it's a genuinely good place to hang out, chat and imbibe a couple of beverages, or two - it's a bit of a 'scene' (and be seen) type of place. Alibi seems like a mix of both.

Hot, sexy co-eds (and cougars) doing hot, sexy things. Seriously. This place had one of the best looking crowds I've seen in a long time. Maybe it's that people actually put on nice clothes to come here. It's got such a cool vibe. The food is great, the bar is great, the drinks are solid, the staff is competent (and hot). So nice to see something like this that doesn't fit the standard cliche. Granted, it's kind of its own cliche, but you know. Go here but go early. It gets crowwwwwwded. Plus, I don't do lines. Ever. You shouldn't either.

I was there on a boring Wednesday night after dinner at Scampo...it was a great place for a nightcap. We sat outside on the comfy couches and had blankets to keep us warm on the chilly night...I felt like I was at home!

AMAZING service. We went with a group of 15 for my friend's 30th birthday. They were very accomodating, reserved an area for us, seemed excited we were having the party there...none of the bs other lounges in the city give you with food minimums or a tiny table for a big group to pack in the crowds, etc. (it was a Tuesday, so not packed) Since they don't have a kitchen (strange) - they get their food as takeout from Harvard Gardens. We ordered a bunch of pizzas - our waitress thought they took so long so she (1) gave us a round of shots and (2) comped our pizza!! When does a bar ever do that? Our waitress was SO attentive and on the ball, she made it fun. And the manager was top-notch. On the phone he suggested I order a cake. When I forgot to order it the day before, he said it would be fine to bring my own dessert in - cupcakes or whatever - and they'd plate it with candles. I went back the following week - also a Tuesday night - and the same spectacular waitress was working. We sat outside that night in the very cool, NYC-esque outdoor lounge. We walked in with 12 people, no reservation, and it was packed, but they made room. Highly recommended for groups and small parties.

I'm not really sure what I went to Alibi expecting, but overall I'd say it was a good first experience. Some friends wanted to try it out for some nicer drinks to start a girl-night-out type evening, so I read some reviews and recommended we got there early since it was a Friday and people posted tales of awful lines. Now, I'm not saying y'all were lying, but at 9 pm I walked right in on Friday. And the place was still not really full, though certainly more hoppin, by the time I headed out around 11. I'd still say its best to get there early, because we were able to get some seating. Most people were seated, or crowded around seats, actually. A great place to get together, but maybe not awesome if you're looking for a mingly atmosphere. But in general the atmosphere of the place - dimly lit with silly celeb mug shots and jail-theme decor - was pretty impressive. In terms of drinks and service, I'd say 4 stars is right on. Strong drinks, which I'd expect for $12. Our waitress was nothing special but she was attentive enough for our needs so no complaints. On our way out we stopped by Clink upstairs just to check it out...if you're looking for the more mingly crew, I'd definitely point you there. I'd like to head back to try that out another night. On the whole, a scene worth checking out at Liberty Hotel if you're into lounges and down for a more expensive drink selection.

Someone please arrest me and sentence me to life in this place. First of all, the staff is super friendly. We were lucky enough to score a table by the bar so we could a) drink wine b) watch the sox win game 1 c) absorb the warm, funky atmosphere. Love the brick walls, mug shots, and high ceilings. Funky leather couches as well as high back chairs and open seating. Nice wine list and affordable. Another thumbs up for having my fav Moulton Brown hand soap and moisturizer--thai vert--in the ladies bathroom. Maybe I could get arrested for stealing them and I wouldnt have to leave?

so, there are three things that i liked about alibi: 1. they managed to pay a somewhat subtle homage to the fact that it used to be a prison without going so overboard that it became theme-y and cheesy. so kudos to you, designer. i can't imagine that was an easy task. 2. the cocktails are pretty unique. i had the lychee martini and pomegranate mojito, both deliciously bold in flavor, and my friend had the "doin thyme" (which really did have a big sprig of thyme in it), and the "cool hand cuke" - an interesting and refreshing combo of cucumber and vanilla vodka. delish! 3. the scene was pretty casual and the music was not obnoxious. lucky for us we snagged seats at the bar and lounged comfortably for several hours. the bad things about alibi are pretty typical of any popular bar/club/lounge in boston: - expensive drinks ($13 cocktails - but no cover, so that evens out somewhat) - long line (we were warned to get there at least by 8:30 - which was great advice. our friends, who came at 9:30, had to wait an hour in line) all in all, a pretty good time.

I've always had good drinks at Alibi and the music is solid. On most weekend nights you can run into a solid group of people from Boston - but there are definitely some nights where the scene turns Jersey Shore or Cougar Kingdom... The drinks are average priced for Boston, and when I was there last night the cocktail server Desi (sp?) was awesome. Oh Liberty Hotel, I will be back.

The cat-eyes are roaming, the perfume is flowing, the drinks are pink with a twist of fate. The ladies of Alibi never fail to represent as Boston's finest talent. And yet, the place reminds me more of a of a third grade recess than anything... girls at some tables, guys at others. It took me a while before I realized that the guys here sorta tip the scale on the douchey side. Don't think I've ever seen so many 30-40 y/o's pretending they are 25-30. Drinks are pricey, but not the worst in town. Place is small, but alright. And I have a lot of respect for the staff - they work hard and have always been fast and attentive. So yah, 4 stars for sure. Best Thursday night scene in Boston.

A friend had his going away party at Alibi last Monday night, and I was surprised at how much I liked the place! The Yelp reviews are peppered with adjectives like "hip," "trendy," "fancy," "pretentious," etc., which is...the opposite of what I'm about. I mean, if I had my way, every bar would be a quiet but welcoming pub with ample seating, and the patrons would all wear Snuggies. I checked the "Attire" section of Alibi's Yelp profile: "Dressy." Crap! No Snuggie tonight. But by the time I found my friends, sat down, and received my drink, I was kind of digging the trendy ambiance and jailhouse theme. I ordered the Jailbait, a delicious pomegranate mojito, and the Rehab, a citrusy little number made with Stoli Ohranj, St. Germain, and Prosecco, which set me back $12 each. Almost everything on their cocktail menu looked delicious, and if I weren't so poor (and driving later that night), I would have tried one or two more. This is a 3.5 star review. I enjoyed myself, but it's difficult to accurately judge a hot bar like this one by a single Monday night visit...I'd be more comfortable bumping it up to four stars if I had the same experience on a Saturday night.

This place oozes sex. Not in the handy-in-the-bathroom sort of way, but "hey, well dressed guy. I noticed you and your good-smelling man cologne. I let you buy me a drink. Now let me return the favor because I've been taking Total Body Sculpt for months now and want to show off the goods." You know, give or take some details. Drinks really are fantastic, albeit pricey. Music is kept at a comfortable level. I could hear it, but did not have to yell at my friend. Yelling at lounges is weird, you're almost always saying something you don't want others to hear. I mean, am I right? Our waitress was adorable and sweet and I was digging her hot dress and converses. Only issue was that she had no idea what my polenta fries came with. Le sad. The crowd here is always ALWAYS good looking. So unless you don't plan on (ahem) catchin' D, come well dressed. Keep the heels on. Don't bring flats. No one will want you that way.

Checked out Alibi on a recommendation from a friend while visiting Boston this past July. Our group really enjoyed it! The ambiance is great and there is plenty of seating. The drinks were really good (get the Old Blue Eyes!!!) and decently priced. Would recommend to anyone looking for a cool place to chill.

Needless to say, the atmosphere is amazing here, from the very obvious ex-jailhouse setting to the very wicked cool classy upscale vibe upstairs and the dark and moody downstairs - everything screams class and sophistication. Unfortunately, other than the atmosphere, I didn't really find anything that blew me away. We got lucky w/o a line to get in, w/o a packed house so we couldnt get a place to sit and relax (as lounges should be), but in the end I didn't get lucky enough to be blown away by this place. Drinks $8? Fine. Subtle music? Ok. Hot waitresses and hostesses? Fine by me. But like I said, if you're looking for a place thats a step up in terms of class from the usual spots, maybe an after work drinks spot or a post romantic dinner place, Alibi is the place to go. But if you want to party it up and do everything else you expect on a Fri/Sat night, try a different place for more excitement.

I don't know who "voted" for this place being good for groups, but, they're big fat liars. We came here as a group of 10. We made a reservation through Opentable (which I'm realizing pretty quickly is a fantastic tool). We got a phone call earlier in the day to confirm that there would, indeed, be 10 people in our party. However, the only space to accommodate such a large number were these two rather squat tables with four little weird stools facing a long, camel colored leather bench. I wish I'd had my camera because these table could only hold four people each, making two people in our party without table space between the tables that we were not allowed to move together. Barring all of that, the drinks are quite good, particularly the John Daly. And, though I didn't try the food, no one who did complained of it. By food, I'm not talking full dinner type meals, but tapas types with shareable bar pizzas. Though with the sheer price of one skewer of beef at $5 a pop (we're talking three little pieces of beef or other meat on *one* stick). All in all, this place is a bit pricey for my taste, the part of my bill covering myself and my significant totaling nearly $60 for two beers, one John Daly, and two shots. But, maybe I'm just a cheap a$$.

New York for the price of Boston! I love this place. Even with a packed bad the bartenders are snappy... Friendly. Polite even. The crowd was amazing -- professional and grad school crowd the night I went there. People are relatively dressed up, even by Saturday night standards but this place still manages to pull off a laid back vibe. I'd highly recommend this bar.

Pros: the place itself is really gorgeous, with a great posh atmosphere both indoor and in the outdoor patio of this former prison. very comfy sofas, where you can stay sipping your drink, and watching the people going in and out. The cocktails we had were well done, and we liked them, probably the best we had in Boston. Cons: the (beautiful) waitress was of the the "so-another-drink?No?Voilà-here's-the-bill" kind. In a place like that, you can't tailgate me! A place where I'd come back for sure, in any case, despite of the scaring security. PS we weren't charged of an automatic 20% tip.

I couldn't quite make sense of my experience here - it was a hotel bar with a relatively uptight and polished crowd, the music was too loud for talking (mostly old-school hip hop- think Biggie, 2pac and old times Jay-Z) and yet there wasn't exactly a dance floor...?!??!! What am I supposed to do here, marvel at the mugshots? (By the way, most of the people featured in the mugshots were charged for DUI, which was only fitting if not cautionary at a bar) This place definitely lives up to the standards of a hotel bar. Very nice door staff and security (opened doors, politely asked for ID's, greeted us and sincerely wished us a good time), nice bartender (she SMILED! for real! no sarcasm here), attentive waitresses and even concierge that helped us grab a cab when we left. The mugshots and prison idea was gimmicky but done nicely. Dim lighting definitely helped set the mood in there. It was a very intimate space with exposed bricks and candles. There weren't a lot of tables and they are first-come-first-served. The crowd was in their late 20's to late 30's and very polished. Most guys were wearing button downs with sweaters, if not a suit jacket. My friend and I grabbed a table right when someone left, only to get death stares from 2 cougars. Oh well, too bad for you. The music was too loud though; we had to scream at each other from across the table. Drinks were good, I just had a standard dirty martini and my friend had cosmos. Good quality and expensive compared to other bars in Boston - which is expected for a hotel bar. It got really crowded past 11:30 and people started lining up because the bar was at capacity. You can either stay in line or go upstairs to another bar, which was much more spacious with very high ceilings.

This place is fun and always makes for an interesting night, but the review is only 3 stars because of the hostess that was there on NYE. She was just so rude! If it weren't for her the review would be a solid 4. My friend and I paid for a table for the night and printed out the confirmation from ticketleap, which was one page. When we got inside she asked to see both of our tickets, even though we only had that one. She gave us a hard time and asked if we had smartphones to look it up, even though the tickets were sent as PDFs. Then she asked how much we paid for the table and I told her the total... THEN she was like ok what's the name? Which, btw, was on the ticket that she was holding. She then picked up this list of reservations and found my name right there. Would it have been too difficult for her to check the list right off the bat, instead of interrogating us? Ugh, so rude. Thank god our actual server was super friendly and attentive, so I don't think that the hostess' behavior is necessarily characteristic of the service there in general.

The place just banks on the fact that it's a former jail and it's fun to go to jail when you're not forced.. I guess.. The problem with this place is that it's too hip, it's too trendy, its too crowded. I guess the packed in like sardines feeling is the real jail experience too! Drinks were meh. I had an awesomely wonderful time because of the company. Don't bother reserving a table unless you are BALLER and can pay for table service. With their prices, the tables should come with girls or something haha

I really don't know where to begin.... A group of five of us came to Alibi last night, it was my first time there. You can't beat the location, and you definitely can't beat the space that they have set up. Jail cell bars, mugshots, nice wooden furniture and the perfect amount of lighting. We got there around 8PM, so no problem getting in, big plus. I had always heard that the cocktails are great, so the $12-$13 price range didn't throw me off at all. I'm perfectly willing to pay top dollar for top cocktails or top beers, that's how it goes. I was excited when we sat down to finally get to try some of them. A waitress immediately came over and asked us the usual, I noticed she was attractive, cool. Then I started to notice that all the other waitresses were also attractive, and that they were all female and I thought, "uh-oh." I was curious as to how this was going to play out the entire night. We ordered our first round of drinks, I got the Sanchez, which is essentially a margarita. All the drinks came pretty quickly and they all tasted fine and they were all made with a heavy hand which was great. I didn't really have a problem with my drink, but it was a margarita. Don't call it anything else...Tequila+lime+Orange is a margarita, not a Sanchez. Throw a chilli pepper in there and rim it with some smoked salt and you have something that would deserve the name Sanchez. We started the people watching, and it was pretty clear what this place was. Trendy, sure? Mid-30s to 50s, fine. This is the niche that Alibi is filling, this is what they are trying to be, and they succeed. Rich socialites of all different breeds come here to have sex with each other. There is no other way about it. The females are attractive, enhanced and not. The men are rich, dress well, and also decently attractive. This is a place to be seen and to have an affair. This is all fine and dandy, this is their market, they fill it, and they do a damn good job. Our waitress checked in on us a good amount, not too much, not too little. We got some waters, and ordered another drink. "Moscow Mule, please." What's that? Muskrat Mole? Are you shitting me, really? You don't know what a Moscow Mule is? You seemingly pride yourselves on your cocktails, but your waitress doesn't know what one of the most common and simple drinks ever is? OK, that's fine...tell the bartender, they'll know. My "Moscow Mule" comes back, it seems that the bartender knew what it was, great! Oh wait, lemon and lemon juice. Not lime and lime juice. Le sigh....everything is so apparent. Alibi staffs waitresses only, all attractive, to get a buck out of their clients. They give the impression that they know what they are doing when it comes to cocktails, they do not. Alibi is a "swanky" place for the beautiful people of Boston and beyond to see and be seen. I wish the cocktails were better, service was fine, up until the bill came. Gratuity included automatically? What? We look at the menu, which indicates that 20% is added to parties of 6 or more....uh we came here with 5 people. Please learn to count, we don't care about adding 20%, we would have anyway, but be a little bit more aware of things like that. Overall, two stars. I've had better.

My favorite bar in Boston so far. THE BAR ITSELF: ***The inside is sexy. The lights are dim, and the theme is cool (even the music sometimes sticks with the theme; I heard "Criminal" by Fiona Apple last time I was there). ***The outside is awesome as well. The couches are very romantic especially on a breezy summer night. THE STAFF: ***The cocktail waitresses are very attentive and sweet (and GORGEOUS; my date has trouble keeping his eyes off of them, the bastard). They treat everyone the same, whether you're a celebrity or a college kid paying with crumpled-up ones and quarters (*ahem*). ***The bartenders are also very good. One in particular -- a young guy, he told me his name once but I forget -- is always friendly and recognized me by my second visit. Even when I can't get my date to go out with me and I'm stuck going out by myself, I feel very comfortable just sitting down at the bar, ordering a beer, and chatting him up. THE DRINKS: **I've noticed people complaining about the strength of the drinks; I personally love a drink that'll kick my ass, and I've never had a complaint about the drinks here. The specialty cocktails are creative (I love the #4, their version of a Dark & Stormy with pink peppercorn syrup; this does, however, run me $12 a pop). I usually get a big frosty Harpoon IPA for $5. Bud Light (bottle) is $4. You can do Alibi on a budget, or you can splurge (they also have some FAAANCY-PANTS champagne and whatnot if you REALLY wanna go all-out). THE CROWD: ***Upscale, late-twenties through mid-thirties, I'd say. Swanky to the max. But, even as a broke-ass twenty-one-year-old looking to get her drink on, I've never felt out of place or unwelcome... Of course, I always make sure I'm wearing reasonable shoes, just in case. ***You WILL see people making out in here. Yeah, it's weird, but like I said, it's SEXY. I hate that kind of thing, but I can't really even blame them. If you're sitting inside with a date, on a corner couch without a lot of people around, sipping on your cocktails for a little while, you're gonna get horny. End of story. BONUS!!! ***Clink is right upstairs, and that's a great place as well. You can grab a drink at Alibi, then one at Clink when you get bored or if your eyes have trouble adjusting to the lighting. Basically, this place will make you feel like a million bucks. Put on a nice pair of shoes, grab a gorgeous date, settle into a corner, slurp on some drinkables, and please, remember to use a rubber.

I am currently holding a pretty bad memory from this place becuase of the obnoxiously drunk mid 30s married couples that try to sexually harass my friends and I last time I visited --a very disgusting and outrangeously annoying experience. Apart from that, I am fond of the Liberty Hotel--the exterior, interrior and most of other things about it. However, Alibi has always made me feel extremely uncomfortable, like being interrogated by authority to provide an Alibi to prove innocence- that is uncomfortable. I think it might be because of the interrior designs, I haven't been able to think of what else, that bothers me so much about the place. The drinks here aren't too bad, but they are on the expensive side, and the alcohol content is not always what you expected at the price level. However, the bar-tenders are usually very friendly and very willing to adjust your drinks to your likings. I am not a fan of the food menu, not much to there, and the food is delivered from some other restaurant, sort of a strange idea. Thus when you ask for any condiments, the staff have to search it elsewhere in the hotel in order to bring you some mayonnaise, which took about 30 mins and concluded with "unable to deliver". The crowd here is usually quite a mix, I've seen mid-age businessmen/women, elderly couples, young professionals, and occasionally students. Depending on the night you go, it can be completely quite (empty) or it can be vibrant.

I went here on Friday night around 10pm. We did not have to wait to get in and were able to snag a table on the patio. It was a beautiful night to be sitting outside. This place really gets busy around 11pm. It is mostly a mid-late 20's, early 30's crowd. Good music, good music, and a great atmosphere. It's at the Liberty Hotel, so it is pretty swanky, but definitely a lot of fun. The drinks are pricey, but not anymore so than other upscale bars in Boston. I will definitely be going back to Alibi sometime soon.

Alibi Lounge is on the 1st floor of Liberty Hotel. Gents need to wear pants/jeans and shoes to be admitted. The venue still retains jail cell bars and has funny celebrity mugshots posted up with entertaining fake quotes accompanying them. My local Beantown friend, Cindy W., gave me the tour this past Friday. Alibi has a DJ and an outdoor courtyard, but I prefer the upstairs Clink. more. Clink. is less stuffy and less crowded. Alibi is definitely worth checking out at least once though, especially if you're from out of town.

I have to admit that I love this place - not so much the physical bar (which is rather cool btw) but love the Staff and Guests here. Huge shout out to the 'tender Jess.. enjoy a 'jessy james' - her signature drink. There are many reviews about the decor - so I'll not go into that. I chuckled at the Cougar Kingdom comment - Alibi does have a Very Well put together clientel. Highly recommend visiting when there is a social event scheduled. I typically sit at the bar and interact with the people..... fun time with fun people.

I like Alibi. I'm not a hipster, or too cool for school, or whatever. I'm just a guy that enjoys a drink without a ton of screaming idiots in the background. The place can get busy, but I've only had to wait once. The drinks are a bit on the pricey side, but are not weak and the atmosphere is really cool. The whole "prison cell" theme throughout is enjoyable, and there is a small area near the back of the restaurant that is a good deal more relaxed. The bartenders are attentive, and the music is good. There's a GREAT mix of people here: younger, older. Mostly the "working professional" type, but you can't really judge a book by it's cover I guess. We always use Alibi as our backup because it's reliable. Cheers!

Went there with a large group to celebrate a friend's engagement. Perfect place for such an occasion! Very cool, sleek look to the place. It could be tough to track down our cocktail waitress once it got busy, but that's to be expected on a Saturday night. We ended up moving to the patio section which is amazing - you couldn't really even tell you were right alongside a major street. Super comfy chair/table setups, with nice ambient light. Drinks & food seemed to be on the pricey side - but it's just that kind of place. Once you get over that, it's a wonderful place to enjoy a few sophisticated cocktails.

I loved Alibi. The people were attractive, the space was charming, the bartenders were awesome.. Definitely was key that we got a seat at the bar, as a lot of the tables were reserved for later arriving parties, but I can't wait to go here again. It was just the right mix of people, NONE of which included disgusting college kids. Update: If you find that there are a lot of creepy older men walking around who seem to be at the bar ALONE (yes alone.. just .. being creepy..), make your way up to the bar where, as I've recently discovered his name to be, JUSTIN, the bartender may just be walking his unbelievable hotness back and forth.. back and forth... backkkk..., ohh.. did I just drool? Yea.. it's that good. Takes the edge of the scary old men. For shures.

I went to Alibi last night to have a couple drinks on my friend's 21st birthday. It was worth it just to see the gorgeous interior of the Liberty hotel, and is in great location for Beacon Hill residents. We both had a grape martini which was great, but I have to highly recomment the "Jail Bait," which was a pomegranite mojito that my friend got. It was really delicious and very girly. A fun, young professional crowd, some great live music and attentive bartenders earned Alibi four stars.

This was the fanciest drunk tank I've ever been in, and I grew up in Revere! Spent a rather quiet pleasant valley Sunday here, taking drinks upstairs, and more drinks down here. The ambiance is cool: stone-flagged floors, brick walls and the iron cell doors. We sat at the bar next to an annoying character that acted like a pretentious Persian prince (attention English majors: illiteration is the least of my vices). He was talking into two different cell phones, then pulls out a third, and starts badgering the bartender if he not only has a place for him to charge his phones, but cell phone chargers as well. The bartender was as bewildered as us. What the hell happened to this city?

Great space. I loved the prison sexiness of it. Im not sure if they added the jail bars and jail feel to it. It is in an old prison. When we first got to Alibi, we hunted a group of cougars down. They had prime real estate in the form of a comfy couch. As they left, we took over. The women in Alibi were, in general quite cute and dressed to the nines. This place was hopping for a Sunday on a holiday weekend. We started talking to a wannabe actress who was moving to Hollywood in 4 days. In typical hollywood style, she bailed on us for a dildo in a John Deere hat with a bunch of champagne at his table. Just to fuck with them, I bought a bottle of Veuve too and drank it next to them. $95 - whoops! I'll regret that in the... oh wait - it is the morning. Nah, I don't regret it. The guy got pissed and tried to hit the top of our bottle with the bottom of an empty one of his - frat boy style. The bouncer said tsk tsk and almost threw him out. Nice one. The woman behind the bar was a fantastic bartender. However, she wouldn't give me a kiss goodbye. Shocking! She did give John R. and me free shots though. None of the stupid clientele mattered. We had a blast at Alibi harassing the other patrons, drinking Beija cocktails and enjoying the "sexy space". I totally understand why there is ALWAYS a line out the door on friday and saturday.

Fun spot, though nothing particularly special aside from the oversized outdoor patio, which is a big plus.

I wish I could give a place zero stars, because this place is so horrible I never even managed to get my foot in the door. Oh wait - the prick of a doorman let me go inside to use the bathroom after I promised I would come back out. Don't worry, buddy, I came out and I'll NEVER GO BACK AGAIN. I'm sorry, but there is no place that can make waiting in line for nearly 2 hours worth it. A friend chose this place for birthday drinks on a Saturday night. We were in line by 8:20 - a few folks were there a bit earlier than that. By 9:45, they'd only let in 10 of our group of 15 (and forget about the additional folks that were 20 people back in the line, they'd left already to get drinks somewhere else!). The birthday girl popped back out at last twice saying that the place was plenty empty enough for them to let the last five of us in, yet the doorman continued to tell us "I don't know when you'll get it - it depends on when people leave", even when his buddy was giving accurate estimates to those that asked about when they would be let in to go to the Clink upstairs. We watched plenty of hooch walk right by him without waiting in line or being on his list of reservations, and we watched at least one guy pay him off. The kicker? I got all the way home to Dorchester Lower Mills (at least 30-40 minutes), and the whole group had left because the other three my boyfriend and I had been waiting with STILL hadn't gotten in. I find it really hard to believe that there is any bar worth waiting that long for.

Building is beautiful and the ambiance is nice if a bit dark. The truffle pizza was great but the rest of the food was not acceptable for local pub pricing, let alone the high prices Alibi charged. The staff was bored on a Tuesday night but that didn't stop them from making mistakes on our orders, overcooking the food, and forgetting us for a while. This place could be great but wastes time on trying to be hip instead of excellent.

Sweet merciful crap, the bartender we had at this place was gorgeous. i didn't get your name, perfectly stubbled, soap opera star looking drink man, but my friend and i spent a good part of our night there oggling you, and i am not ashamed! My friend and i decided to get dressed up a bit two Friday's ago and check this place out after all the hype we'd heard. it poured rain, and we got there early, so we were able to miss the much talked about long wait to get in. i have to say, i was impressed with the interior. dim, lots of exposed brick, cool photos on the wall. the old original jail doors are awesome! there was an interesting mix of people ranging from 20 somethings to much older. we scoped it our for a few and noticed that the majority of people were drinking wine or fancy martinis. my friend and I happen to be beer girls. we ordered two and i cringed while waiting for the total. 8 bucks! that's right, 8! 4 dollars a beer in a fancy shmancy kind of place is ok by me! we hung out for a while as the place progressively got more crowded. we noticed a bit of a line forming outside. after one last oggle of the bartender we decided to make a few people in line's night and head over to the Beacon Hill Pub. sitting in the BHP with a cheap pint of light beer in hand, we both realized that as much as we wanted to be into the "IT" scene we are just the dive bar type at heart. i really did like Alibi though, and i think at some point i'll give it another chance. and NOT just because of the bartender...really...i swear...

Went here Friday night and most of the reviews below were right on. It is a great change of pace to your run of the mill bar. I am looking forward to going back in the summer when they open up their outdoor area. We had a waitress who was very attentive and I was able to order more drinks when ever our party was looking for one. If you haven't been here, I would definitely suggest checking it out. It is easy to find, right across the street from MGH Redline stop.

I've been here twice, once on a weekend night, and once around 5pm just to grab a quick drink before dinner. Like many people said, it does get super crowded on the weekends, but when the weather warms up, they do open an outdoor area which is nice. The prices are a little high, my friends and i will usually opt to share a bottle of wine instead - The reason why I'm giving it 4 stars is because the drinks are pretty good, and the service is great, if you already know what to expect (ie, the crowd / price) then you should have a good time here. If you just want to check it out, come early evening, the place is pretty cool.

I am convinced they watered down the bottle of vodka we got at table service. Either that, or she forgot to add it to our drinks. The waitress refused to leave the bottle on the table, too - kind of suspect. But not only could I not taste any alcohol, but a little 110 pounder like me with an empty stomach and a desire to get the party started should be feeling the alcohol after like one drink let alone 4 or 5. but i was completely sober all night. the setting is cool, the crowd is a bunch of wannabes...whatever. complete waste of money.

Pros: This is an OK spot if you want to sit and/or stand around and sip on cocktails in a really unique and posh environment. You'll have many opportunities to strike up conversations with the glamorously chic mix of people that populate this place. It's very conveniently located and getting a cab past closing time is a breeze. Cons: The bartenders here are consistently some of the worst I've ever seen -- not only are they rude and impatient, but more importantly they can't make a good drink to save their lives. I'd never sent a drink back for being poorly made until I was at Liberty, where I found it necessary to send back nearly every single drink -- as did many people in my group. Complaining would get you a lot of "'tude" from the bartenders, though to their credit I was offered a free shot for my displeasure. The liquor selection is notably bad for a place where a typical round of drinks will cost you at least $40-50+. Don't expect to do any dancing here unless you want to be the only person in the room busting a move. Overall: All form and no substance. Stop in to take in the atmosphere but then move on.

Nothing better than being with a group of friends and work-folk in the drink tank of an old prison. Not to mention this place gets props for its name (my cat's named Alibi and yes, I'm a cat lady....damn you). So here's the skinny: dark and comfortable, jail and bars and celeb mug shots, you know this, over-priced drinks and stuff. Here's what I recommend: do not buy their "signature" cocktails. These are, indeed, overpriced and frankly, not that good. Stick with your good old fashion standbys (I like jolly ranchers myself - $8, not bad) and DO NOT order the food on the menu!! That is a warning. Seriously. Go to Wendy's or BK or freakin' Whole Foods up the street - but do not eat here. You will get screwed without either a name or phone number or even the courtesy of a hand shake. Don't believe me?? My friends and I ordered the kobe beef sliders ($16) and the steak and cheese egg rolls ($14). We only got four sliders, which were smaller than White Castle burgers, and greasier than an IHOP griddle at noon. And the steak and cheese egg rolls, though yummy, we're about the size of a pinkie but cut in half. That's enough to make you want to shank somebody!!

I love this place i cant believe i am reviewing situations that are blurry in my mind. Well first i must compliment the wait staff being friendly and engaging (plus they are all hot). The drinks are amazing im not a martini guy but i have had a few while visiting. The best thing to do is grab a table or sit outside while its sunny get some truffle fries and enjoy the scene. If your not cool before you leave drink some more until you are the coolest mother F*r on the planet.

Really nice and personable bartenders. Chris and Niko made time fly with our exchanges of funny stories and dating mishaps. The scene was anything but dull. Came across the occasional too drunk to conversate chick or the couple of douchebags trying to appear straight when all of us knew they were gay. Either way, it was entertaining. The food was pretty good. Apparently the get it imported from another restaurant. Definitely worth a visit.

Scene:Boutique like semi industrial feeling Hotel bar. A flurry of late 20 early 30 somethings holding their cocktails and glasses of wine.........no one is being too loud, no one is dancing too much-or at all............very chill.....Gorgeous chandeliers, dim lighting and pretty people wait staff...........Celebrity mug shots adorn the walls and there are even bricks and jail bars from the cells of the Old Charles Street Jail.... I feel something......an omen........someone coming closer. Oh no. It was the little geeky guy who was starring at me across the bar....one of times he looked at me and SLOWLY Licked his upper teeth/lip...(I swear) EEEK! Screech look a like with MGH badge still on: "Hey there sexy....I love your sweater (starring at chest) Question:Do you know why Hugh Grant was arrested?" Me: (trying to figure out if he was a dr or a nurse-where did this confidence sprout from?) "Was it for using bad pick up lines on awesome women?" Screech look a like with MGH badge still on: "Well you know.......I......." Me:"I would have been more intrigued if you asked me if I knew why Sinatra was arrested." (as I pointed to his mug shot on the wall) Screech look a like with MGH badge still on: "well...." Me: (cuts off) "Even though I am enjoying the music and the lights are dim........ I can still see and hear enough of your bull to know you completely suck at life." Screech look a like with MGH badge still on: "Well, I just wanted to know if........" Me: "So go park yourself back up against the brick wall over by the jail bars, while I go sit over on this lovely red leather sofa and drink my awesome Doing Thyme cocktail." Screech look a like with MGH badge still on: "Uh.....no........well...........you see" Me: "OK, than, so why? Why was he arrested." (I knew) Screech look a like with MGH badge still on: (He forgot his punchline......so he resorted to) " Well for picking up a hooker-that was a man" Me: (Got up and hovered over him a good 3 inches and mind you, I am only 5' 2" 1/2, than slowly raised my hand with clutch held tightly as weapon, I started counting backwards) "5..........4...........you have three seconds to run........3................2............" (he was gone by one) I kicked myself after I thought about all the Prescription drugs I possibly missed out on and than realized, after meeting one of his co-workers, he was only in billing. Point is, the bar is kitschy. Go there once to check it out, I guess. For me it is not my scene. Mostly after work people in turtle necks and younger people checkin it out. They just don't mesh well....and everyone was either looking around at everyone else like at a high school dance or tappin their drinks. I'm guessing most of you, Bostonites, have already heard about the recent renovation of the Charles Street jail and the Liberty Hotel. What you haven't heard is that it has an amazing lounge on the first floor. Cleverly named Alibi, the space was part of the old cell block with some of the original walls, cell bars and flooring still there. The decoration is nice and simple: you don't need much when you have amazing brick walls, with mugshots of famous people hanging everywhere (my favorite is Devine Brown...google it up!). I asked for a Gin&Tonic and got Gin with a splash of Tonic...can't beat that! It's newly opened, so they seem to be fine tuning their drink menu. Go! Check it out! ---------------------- SNAP SON! Those Truffle Oil and Parmesan Cheese Fries!!!

I must give credit to the interior designer because if I were to check into a hotel, this would be the kind of place I would look for. Pretty awesome job turning a Suffolk county prison into a work of art. The second floor experience is magnificent! This place feels more like a bar/lounge with a hotel rather then a hotel with a bar/lounge. Saturday at Alibi was pretty cool. Lots of good looking people, drinks are not so bad, but I must complain about the complete lack of taste when it comes to music. Hip hop and nirvana and disco and top40 hits...bleh... Either make up your mind or play something for the opera fans as well. How about a dj? It is pretty clear that a very creative person envisioned this place, but the management fails to understand like most places in Boston that nice decor isn't the only thing that makes a place inviting.

Alibi Alibi, what shall I say about you, Alibi. I think their specialty martinis are quite tasty. The crowd is.....interesting. Pretty people, old people, young people, international people, awkward people, sketchy people, and me. I enjoy people watching, so the diverse crowd is entertaining. Minus the sketchy dudes that have hit on me & my girl friends. But I've learned to just turn that into something to laugh about....as long as I stay sober enough to NOT give my number out. The space is tight and it's dangerous trying to navigate the room with a martini in hand, but I've had a lot of fun there. Loved it in the summer when the outside was open. Haven't been there since the cold weather hit, so we'll see....

too long of a wait for a mediocre drink.. if u drink straight liquors, the pour is nice. too crowded, too small. (though the patio in the summer adds some room)too dark, too pretentious. annoying girls trying too hard to be glam... and the tools trying soo hard to impress them.

We ate at Clink and hit Alibi after for drinks. The place was fun, drinks a little on the high side but really what Boston bar isn't. We pretty much closed the place and ended up staying at the hotel rather than try to drive. The place gets a little loud and busy. The crowd seemed good very pleasant bunch. I liked Alibi a little better than Clink

the concierge at the commonwealth suggested this spot and it was solid suggestion. the liberty hotel apparently used to be a jail so the whole place carries this theme. the bar named the Alibi is no exception. bars (literally the metal bars like in a jail) decorate the place as does the mug shots of famous folks that had been arrested. we sat right under the mug shot of lindsay lohan which reminded me of how pretty and how much more interesting she looked before she had plastic surgery. there was david bowie and johnny cash on the other wall. we went there before our 830pm dinner so it was fairly early. still a decent crowd but our server was very attentive which scored extra points as well. the cocktail menu was a bit of an uptick from most of the places we'd been before so i think this spot is probably one of the classier lounges in town for the combo of theme, design, drink quality and service. go check it out.

This place is decent, but it's super tiny, and somewhat expensive for what you get. You need to get there early if you have any prayer of getting a table or a seat on a couch. They do have wait staff that comes around, which is handy considering the bar area gets super packed and is hard to maneuver through. There is no bathroom in this place, you have to exit the bar and go to one of the bathrooms in the lobby area. I hear that now they make you get some kind of a token thing? Odd... don't know what that's all about, by my assumption is so that you can't cut the line and just say that you were at the bathroom... but... I've never experienced a line here. It's been a few months since I've been, so I'll have to go back and see how things have changed! This place does get credit for the interesting decor since they play on the fact that this used to be a jail and have mug shots of celebs on the walls. They're entertaining the first time that you're there.

After dinner upstairs at CLINK, we made our way down to the bar, Alibi. Again you really get the sense of how the prison used to be. The mugshots of celebrities on the way are too funny. I love that Paris Hilton's alibi was "Whatever!" I'm hot, you're hot, we're all hot....blah blah blah, enh We were early enough to be able to score a table in a corner. Just as a heads up: we saw some of the food, and took a look at the menu and it has better options than the restaurant upstairs. We should have just eaten in the bar. The servers were very attentive and they have a mean drink list. The only downfall was that the table we were sitting at was reserved for 9:30 so we had to move. But by that time, all the pretentious people in the hotel, and upstairs in the restaurant were coming down to the bar. So we were kind of ready to leave. Its defintely not my scene. It's too crowded, full of wannabes and stupid frat boy types. It would be a better place to visit when its not so busy and crowded, like during their slow times.

Alibi is more of a lounge than a bar: dark, cosmopolitan and exclusive. All of the waitresses are in skin hugging black dresses and the dim lightening ensures that you look as sexy as possible. We came here on a Wednesday night. The place was about half full. My friend ordered a gin and tonic with a slice of cucumber and I ordered a vodka cucumber drink that was good but overloaded with syrup. Our other friend enjoyed her ginger juice cocktail. We split a butternut squash, fontina and caramelized onion pizza. The pizza was very tasty but we had to ask the waitress for Tabasco to give it some kick. After a few more drinks, we left around 11 PM just as the very fragrant (meaning doused in perfume/cologne) smoking crowd trickled in. Alibi was definitely a fun place to go out with friends- who doesn't like to get all dolled up and sip on cocktails in jail?

Alibi is definitely one thing, impressive. In order to get to the bar you have to walk through the main entrance to the Liberty Hotel.... WOW! Because the review is for the bar and not the hotel I won't go into details about the lovely woodwork, open ceiling and the art intense escalators.... back to Alibi..... This bar is beautifully done! You walk into the bar through a big wooden sliding door that must have separated cell blocks back in the day. The bar still smells of new leather from the high back carmel leather chairs and stools. We actually sat in a cell while we had drinks. The dark wood and candles provide an intensely warm environment that complements your favorite cold drink. Speaking of drinks, they were good. When we went they only had one bar on tap, Guinness, but they had a variety in the bottle. My martinis were perfect. Served in a very large glass so I couldn't spill on myself. I agree with Malena, I love the mugshots! We are going to try to come back soon before the bar gets too popular. I foresee a wait in the future.

cheese to the izzay. this place could have been cool given the history of the building and the inherited facilities. but the rehab job was done in the worst way. despite their gawdy decor and overpriced/uninspired menu, they get three stars, because their outdoor seating area is something to be valued in this town, particularly during the summer months. the bf says that the bar is bustling and offers a new york vibe in boston. i say bleh- take me somewhere else.

  • Jenny L.

Definitely my kind of scene! Chic, trendy, nice mix of people. I will have to say though that the bartenders only really know how to pour liquor-- literally. I ordered three olives grape with sprite-- TWICE-- and both times all I tasted was the three olives grape. And considering the place, it was only $8. Needless to say, my body definitely paid for it the next day!

Celebrity mug shots line the walls as art. Love it. Loud, lively hip atmosphere. Mixed crowd of post-work business folks hanging with clients to college kids and cougars - often very crowded and noisy. People are spruced and there for a good time. Food was good - bar food at its best. Good drinks with quick service -- if you can get in. This place has become one of my boston staples, in part because the hotel it is in (the Liberty) is my hotel of choice as well.

I wanted to really like this place, really, I did. The outdoor space is chic & open, the hotel grand and interesting with its playful take on a re-designed jail. While the restaurants/lounges may be a touch cheesey (clink, alibi, scampo, etc.) I was still really looking forward to grabbing drinks & a bite to eat outside after my flight had arrived late to Logan. We were lucky that a table was open upon arrival...it only had one chair, but we were able to snag another from a table nearby (could have done without the snotty replies from a group of girls, but i think thats par for the course at Alibi, sadly). We put in our order ASAP because we were both hungry and it was getting late...nearly 8:30. Our waitress was very sweet and it was clear that the mishaps to come were not her fault. Our wine arrived quickly and we were able to relax and enjoy the atmosphere for a bit...then the hunger set in. We hadn't ordered anything too time consuming. Edamame, dumplings, chicken sandwhich, tuna tartare. We waited nearly an hour before our food finally came...with apologies the whole way from our waitress..and when it came, the fries were cold and the only request I had made (mayo on the side please, it makes me ill) was ignored. So I had to send the sandwhich back (painful to do given I was ready to eat my hand!) and munch on our appetizers. Munching on appetizers turned into devouring them as it took nearly another 30 minutes for my replacement chicken sandwhich to arrive...all the time my chivalrous boyfriend was waiting to eat his tuna...luckily it was served cold, so he wasn't at a total loss, but still... When the chicken finally arrived it was eh, at best. Not a lot of flavor other than salt & pepper...and much too expensive for what it was, which was a girlled chicken sandwhich with some mozarella. The fries were fine, over salt & peppered, and the edamamewas undercooked and oddly oily for some reason. The dumplings were good (we had the veggie) and my boyfriend seemed to enjoy his tuna. All in all, we were underwhelmed with the meal. I do love to eat outside though, so I'm sure I'll be back for another round...they have a waygu burger and mac & cheese on the menu that might be better... The atmosphere of the after-work drinks crowd was very interesting in terms of people watching. Lots of over-dressed singles cruising the bar area...a few too many drinks for a tuesday night crowd enjoying themselves under the umbrellas..and my favorite..the far too old older men wooing the overdressed female crowd with bottles (yes, plural) of Veuve on ice. Ah yes, Alibi...I hate to love you and I love to hate you. I'll be back for round 2.

Alibi is definitely different from your usual stuffy Beacon Hill bar, although it does attract the same Beacon Hill crowd (plus lots of doctors since it's right next to MGH). We sat under a larger-than-life-sized mug shot of Lindsey Lohan. The modern mug shots juxtaposed against the old-time jail walls and hardware makes for a very interesting ambiance (that would probably get old after repeated visits). Their (slightly pricey) bar menu includes drinks called Doing Thyme and Paddy Wagon to play up the cell block humor. Also check out the GORGEOUS atrium upstairs in Clink.

So, you want my alibi? Yes, I was there at the new hot spot Alibi Bar & Lounge, located inside the new luxurious Liberty Hotel. The hotel recently converted from Boston's Infamous Jail. The bar does have a dark, sexy inviting atmosphere, you are sucked right in from the moment you set foot on the door. The staff is very friendly and beautiful. Nothing wrong there, who doesn't want to be in a dark bar, surrounded by beautiful people, fantasizing about being naughty in a jail cell? OK, so maybe that is not part of my alibi... ;) As for the food..... it's jail food! I was very excited to try their white truffle Parmesan french fries along with their deliciously worded, Steak and cheese egg rolls..... I was totally disappointed with my verdict, even the presentation was not right. I get the Jail-tray concept, but come on, this is Boston, we're foodie people, prop it up! Style it, keep my whole fantasy going... but no, it did not happen here. Not sure if the palate is the same upstairs at Clink (restaurant). But do check the place out... great staff and beautiful clientele! You never know who you might get cuffed to! ;)

Some good things about Alibi: comfortable areas to sit and talk with a small or large group of people, the kind of lighting that makes people look prettier, perfectly pleasant and not-too-loud music, plenty of people but not at all crowded, decent drinks, close to the red line at Charles/MGH, cheap and quick and friendly valet parking (only $10 if you get your ticket validated at Alibi or Clink -- a great deal in a neighborhood where street parking is slim pickings especially when there's a Celtics game or some other event at the Garden). Some annoying things: long lines outside on freezing cold Friday nights are one thing if a place really is at capacity, but doing it for effect is just obnoxious: after waiting for at least twenty minutes to get in, my friends and I realized that holding back the floods had not been strictly necessary; they easily could have let in the whole line (maybe 30 people) without making the place uncomfortably full. Then four of our friends who got there after we did (they arrived around ten) waited for over an hour, including about 45 minutes *at the very front of the line,* and finally ended up leaving to avoid frostbite. Maybe they weren't wearing enough makeup or something, but this one bouncer was really rudely power-trippy about the whole thing. In general the staff members (other than the valets) were not great, for example our clueless cocktail waitress about whom one of my friends speculated charitably that it was probably her first day. She would come back to our table after ten minutes to point at someone and say, "Are *you* the one who ordered the pinot noir?" Also, given that a martini glass with an olive-laden toothpick sticking out of it is one of the most iconic images in America I was pretty unimpressed that she brought over my dirty martini with no olives in it and apparently *didn't know that martinis are supposed to come with olives.* The jailhouse-themed decor was kind of cool in a novelty way, although I would have preferred to sit by a mugshot like Michael Jagger or Francis Sinatra rather than having to stare at Paris Hilton's giant sultry gaze. And I can imagine it might be a decent (if expensive) after-work hangout if I worked in Boston, especially at MGH, which is right next door. But given that I do not I probably won't be back.

I went here before the celebrity blitz last year, days before Paris Hilton's visit, so this review is a little dated. My first peice of advice would be not to go here in the winter. We hung out in the lounge upstairs and everytime the front doors opened there was this huge gush of bitterly cold wind that shot all the way through to ceiling of this place and we literally had to hang on to our stuff to keep it from blowing over. Other than that the lounge is a great place for a group to kick back comfortably over drinks and apps. The jailhouse theme is super-cool and the place does have an interesting history. I loved the mugshots and learned that sinatra was busted for adultery in his youth, so i guess it was educational as well... However it was very cold and we had to wear our jackets while we drank at the bar. The brick walls and general jailhouse theme counters the sort of swankiness traditional lounge patrons are used to but it has this sort of rough sinatra coolness that you can acclimate yourself to after a couple of drinks. Which, btw, were not watered down at all and quick in the coming. The crowd seemed to be filled with people of all ages although i dont know who typically patronizes the place now that its become a high-profile hot spot. I say go. Not only for Alibi, but to experience all the Liberty has to offer...just wait for spring.

This former prison transferred into a swanky hotel is strangely gorgeous inside. I love the barred balconeys that once were cells i presume. Alibi is a smallish bar on the first floor of the hotel. I met a bunch of girlfriends for our first "Martini Thurs" of the summer, which is for the purpose of trying new places in the area. When 3 of us got there , half the bar was empty, but reserved: for private parties. poop. we had to take over a small cocktail table and pull extra chairs to it. When the other 3 girls got there, we were kind of awkwardly situated on 2 of these cocktail tables. The waitress had a nice attitude and even got us an extra chair. she told us we could change our drinks if we didnt like them. all but one of us got the guns and roses and it was AWESOME. IT CONTAINED SOME OF MY FAVORITE THINGS: lychee fruit puree, bombay sapphire gin and reisling wine. sounds weird but it tasted like a grapefruit drizzled with maple syrup...delish! (am I the only one who does that, anyway?) Unfortunately , the drinks are $13 each. a bit much. at least they were yummy, large and strong. we ordered an app of fries and a basic marghareta pizza. both were good, but also pricey. they were out of hummus and pita which was our first choice. THe only other thing that was kind of off was that the waitress, even though she was very nice, assumed my friend wanted another $13 martini and gave her one straight away, when my friend really wanted a wine. it all worked out though...we split the delicious concoction. we couldn't afford more to eat here though and we were all starving so we headed to upper crust on charles street afterwards. i highly recommend doing that instead of paying for thier overpriced food. all in all though, i'll be back for another guns and roses, someday...

I went here this past weekend as the starting point for the night out. It's a nice place to sit with friends and catch up before going to a place where it would be much harder to hear any sort of conversation. We sat in the back lounge area and our waitress was super nice. Although they have a policy for ordering pitchers of drinks (you must have at least three people drinking it) she let us order it after we explained someone else would be showing up. I must recommend the pitcher of Belvedere blueberry lemonade (I'm not sure the exact name of it). It was delicious and definitely great for a hot summer night. For 50 bucks we got easily 14 drinks out of one pitcher and a nice buzz to go along with. Our waitress also brought of fresh cups of ice after ours had melted and didn't give me a hard time about asking for a glass of water before we left. She was also prompt about bringing it which most places aren't. The only negative things were having to watch a middle aged couple make out right across from us and the lemon slices were a bit large for my taste. You couldn't really put the slice in your drink which I am a fan of. Other than that, a great place to start off a night before the line is ridiculously long.

Alibi is ok, but I definitely don't recommend it if you're claustrophobic. There are lots of little nooks and depending on where you're standing, you may find yourself scooting over in response to "excuse me's " all night. The last time I was here I was definitely annoyed by a female bartender who literally just stood there like a show pony for about 20 minutes at the height of the evening while people crowded around trying to get a drink.

The only thing this bar has going for it is it's awesome building. All else - the slow slow service, the freezing cold atmosphere, the overpriced drinks and rude wait staff make it a place I would rather just walk past. The owners ruined the wonderful potential of this room by making it seem special but not following through. They order their food in from the Harvard Gardens. Drinks are NYC priced. Sorry, this place need new management.

I have been here twice and I did enjoy it both times... however, I will never return because the hostess.. manager... whoever she is, is just awful. I forgot my jacket inside and she would not believe me and told me that it wasn't there and gave me the worst attitude. I finally barged through, got my jacket and we left (after making sure she realized what a b#tch she was). I was in complete awe at how inconsiderate she was. Because of this, I will never return. Whatever happened to customer service?

I've been holding off writing about this place, but it really is one of the coolest bars in Boston. Sure, you have to show up at 8p or be prepared to wait in the longest line, but it's cool. The Liberty was an old jail and Alibi compliments this idea with metals prison bars allowing guests to peak into the other areas of the bar and celebrity mug shots on the wall. The first time I went there, I had such fun. It was a good crowd, looking sharp and out for a good time. Almost a year after that first visit, it hasn't felt the same, but it's still fun and a crazy meat market. I've been more than I like to admit because I've worked on two movies in town where everyone from LA was staying at the hotel, so needless to say, it's been a favorite to work friends to gather and celebrate. The staff has always been more than friendly to our groups, even naming a special limited cocktail one of our actors came up with after our production! Still, I can't say enough how crowded it can get. Get to the hotel early for dinner before going and alleviate some of the stress.

I'm going to give this place 3 stars on potential alone. I went in for a drink with my girlfriend the other night and it was a train wreck. First, it is open seating... but they have a hostess (weird). The only table available for the two of us was a high top in a nice little nook. The spot was great but the cocktail waitress never cam to us. They went all around us but never even made eye contact. I've had this happen. It's ok I just went to the bar as it really wasn't that busy. However, there was one bartender and all she could handle was making drinks for the waitresses to serve! Frustrating, but I got over it 10 minutes later when the bartender acknowledged me. I ordered a Sam Octoberfest and one of their cocktails, the cocktail was great (the girl next door) but the beer (draft) was flat! YES FLAT! This I could not understand. I returned it and got something different but that didnt taste right either. This was a brutal experience, but I hope it was just growing pains because the ambiance is awesome and it's a really cool place to hang out. One other thing I didn't understand: they did not have a single TV. That's taking themselves a little too seriously for a place with no food in Boston, where everyone is a sports fan. That seems kinda dumb to me but maybe I just spend too much time at dives like Stephanie's on Newbury.

ok i know it might seem gimmicky to some, but i think the fact that this place used to be a jail and now its the "liberty" hotel and the bar is called "alibi" is pretty cool. i liked the way that it had a few little rooms, and it seemed crowded at first but yet it was easy enough to get drinks and eventually we sat at the bar (my favorite spot).

I stayed at the Liberty Hotel over the weekend in town to go tot he Red Sox game. I hadn't heard of the hotel or Alibi b/c it's just so new and I'm from Chicago. My buddy who is a Chicago transplant to Boston knows the GM of Alibi and suggested I try out the hotel. Well I did, and I'm glad I did. Since this is a review on Alibi, I'll try to keep it there. There was a long line on Friday night. Saturday was not so bad. I didn't wait in line though but I don't know if that was because I was staying in the hotel, or b/c my buddy knew the GM. But I didn't ask b/c I really didn't care. They had a TV on for the Red Sox games, but when the game was off, the TV was off and you just heard the good beats coming from the stereo. Music varied and didn't have a theme. The bartenders were great and attractive. The girls were friendly and the guys seemed cool. Prices were middle of the road. Say a Kettle One and and soda was $9. I've been to many places where this is $11 now, so I'll take it cheaper when I can get it. There was a big mix of ages. One girl I talked to was 22 and you can easily tell some men and women were in their late forties. Everyone was pretty well dressed. Lights are dim. There are a couple of sitting rooms throughout with jail bars to resemble cells. I banged my leg on a small table I didn't see, but that's more my own fault. It all works though and fits in with the theme. One thing is for sure, Alibi didn't seem touristy at all. EVERYBODY we talked to there was from Boston and were actually interested in hearing about the hotel. The mug shots are a cool touch. We've all seen the the Frank Sinatra one by now but the Steve McQueen one was pretty cool to see. So with all that being said, I'm glad I went and I'll be back on my next visit.

I had heard rave reviews these past weeks on Alibi so I had to check it out for myself...The place was nice and I was enjoying myself up until I had to use the rest room. Upon leaving the bar we were handed these cards from the bouncer, supposedly securing our entrance back in, however that was not the case. To make a long story short the bouncer gave out 2 cards, each being a different color, which I guess we had the wrong color which made getting back into the club an issue. I was pretty much called a liar by management when explaining the situation to get back in. Both the Manager and General Manager were nothing but rude and helpless. Also to top everything off I was so rudely yelled at by the manager in the lobby upon leaving telling me that I need to have respect - talk about bad customer service - obviously they don't care about their customers and need to take a management course themselves to learn how to properly respect/treat their paying customers...

I am shocked too hear all the negative and borderline defamation of character about the manager at Alibi. I have booked many a party at Alibi and at other Lyon's group establishments and establishments that the manager in question has operated. She has always been professional, curteous & generous with all my clients and guests. II have probably spent 10,s of thousands of dollars with Alibi. It really irritates me to read such slander. I had a friend at the event in question, who happenned to hear that the event organizer actually sent out the wrong date on her invite than the date she booked at Alibi & that the apparent "soul-less" manager actually helped the event planner out by letting her party come in on the wrong date at the last minute. Anyway, I guess the point I am trying to make is, Yelp is not a place to personally attack people in public. It is classless, shameful & cowardly. Try writing the establishment a letter instead.

Line way too long. Paid twenty bucks to valet our car and never stept foot inside the hotel. The hostess in the blue dress last night was too buisy socializing and letting friends in the back of the line inside first rather than letting those in the front of the line in first. Maybe the place would actually be fun if they fired the staff at the front door and actually hire employees that want to work.

The drinks here aren't in any means the best that you can find in Boston but the setting/decor itself makes this place worth a visit. It looks like you are walking into a jail cell. I went on a Thursday night and it was loud, crowded, and full of young workers. It's one of those "experiences" that you or visitors should have when visiting Boston just because it's a unique idea. And as I said before, the drinks aren't amazing but they are good.
