Decent. Thin crust, too thin. Good prices

We love thin crust pizza and Stone Hearth does a great job. You have a choice of pizza doughs, white, whole wheat, multi grain or gluten free, sauces and tons of fresh toppings. All 100% organic and local with hormone free meats too. Beats greasy pizza for me! They have creative fresh salads with two size choices, stromboli, wraps and panini, all delish! I haven't tried their pastas or desserts yet - but they look tasty. They also have a freshly made lemonade or something light for the season. Of course there is also beer and wine which is nice. We've never had bad service or a bad meal. The restaurant itself is small, seating approx 30 but it's not a problem. The waitstaff and personnel have always been friendly and accommodating. It's even fun for the kids to watch their pizza or meals being prepared.

Tried the Farm Fresh Pizza on our first visit here- and was disappointed to find all of the toppings raw (even the prosciutto was cold)! Wouldn't be too difficult to saute at least the red peppers and onions for some flavor. The crust was good, however. Atmosphere and service were below average.

My family and I love the food at Stone Hearth Pizza. Always fresh with many farm products. The staff is very friendly and helpful and always ready to accommodate special requests. Great selection of pizzas and salads. Probably our favorite place in Belmont Center and very affordable.

I love the Prosciutto and pineapple pizza! Always ask it when I'm there, the service it's amazing, the people it's really nice and they are very welcoming, it's a small restaurant but very comfortable

Pizza is average and service is slow. Beer selection is decent. Not sure there is anything else to say about this place.

I was really hoping to like this place. I went with my roommate for dinner last night and it just simply wasn't good. I just got plain cheese pizza, what better way to gauge a place right? It was SO salty and had barely any sauce on it. We also ordered the meatball poppers and they left a lot to be desired. It seems that they put them in the oven to bake upon order with the sauce(just to heat im assuming), but after the meatballs themselves are already cooked which resulted in terribly overcooked and dry meatballs. Overall, I can safely say we will not be back. Surprisingly though, the service was great which warranted the two stars.

I like stone hearth's pizza alot. thin and hand tossed dough, really yummy toppings, can be healthy like a salad topping, or as mouthwatering as a cheese burger topping. their salads are always fresh and delicious. hearty soups in the winter time, like apply ginger squash soup. hope they stay around for a long time.

Not very impressed. Ordered the Buffalo Chicken pizza. Quality ingredients, but I prefer my Domino's any day. Also, lots of families there, so if you don't mind loudness, then you'll be alright.

The pizza was very good and the service was even better. I like that I was able to choose between different pizza crusts, and there was a lot of variety of pizzas/toppings. Everything seemed very fresh and organic. The best part was the soda, which is made by a local company. I don't drink much soda but the lemon-lime was great! If I am ever in the area I would go back again.

Had a business lunch there a few days ago.. I think the location was chosen more for the parking than for the food, but what the heck... ya gotta eat right? the meeting was after the regular lunch hour, around 1:00 PM, the place was moderately busy, but I guess one thing that turned me off was not the food, but the fact that they seemed to only have one server for the whole place and she was running around like a mad-woman. Kudos to her, she had a great attitude which is probably more that I would have had. Anyway, got a table, and we were presented with some worn out menus in some sort of plastic sleeve dealies... maybe it was a good sign that they got a lot of use, but to me, they just looked old and worn out. The tables were a bit too close for comfort and not while we were discussing trade secrets or anything, but I learned much more about my neighbors construction business than I needed to know.. On to the food....certainly decent, but not world class... I seem to remember better when I was there awhile ago, One of the orders was a gluten free pizza, and I must say that after being offered a piece, (I chose another entree for myself), the crust it was way too bland, but I don't blame the restaurant, just the idea of gluten free dough I guess. The app's were good, the salads, creative but a bit overpriced, but then it is Belmont...I did not leave hungry Another thing that bothered my dining companion was the tablet dealie for the check, I had left to make a phone call and when I came back they were struggling a bit with the set up... but again, since I did not participate in that experience, I cannot comment All in all... not a bad experience, I took off the stars for the ambiance, not the food. Maybe a better time to visit would be dinner and with a glass or two of wine.

Went in at 9:22pm and was told that I could only do take out. There was only one person seated who was eating. The sign said they closed for 10pm. Not good business if they turn people away because they don't feel like staying a little late to clean. My girlfriend and I only planned on getting a small pizza because we were hungry and wanted to be out of the cold. We will not be trying this place again.

Love this place. For a chain, this pizza is far and away the best. With whole wheat crusts and specialty pies, it never fails to deliver. With pizzas like bacon and blue, I'm often surprised at how reasonable the prices are. In Belmont it's not uncommon to pay more for far less delicious and quality pizza. Cons: generally slow/poor service, it's always packed

food here is pretty good, but the last time i went the service was abysmal. Had to wait and wait and wait to order while surrounding tables who were seated later placed orders and were served. then when the food came, there was no silver/napkins. we had to get up ask the waitress for it. She said she'd get it right away and proceeded to take other orders. By the time the cutlery came, the food was cold. Now if we'd been rude or obnoxious to begin with, I'd get this, but we were well behaved. Remained that way but will never ever return food isn't good enough for this b.s.

My coworker recommended this place to me for dinner last night. I was meeting an old friend that I haven't seen in over 6 years so we had lots to catch up on. We quickly ordered drinks but took our time to pick something out for dinner. Out waitress was unbelievably rude, each time coming over to ask if we had decided and we would apologize and ask for a few more minutes. She rudely told us that the restaurant was filling up and asked if we were even going to order dinner because we were not allowed to have just drinks. The food was mediocre but the service was the worst I've ever had. My friend found a piece of plastic in her wine and when we pointed it out we did not get an apology. Will not be returning and do not recommend this place to anyone.

Exactly what you want in a small town pizza place: simple, fresh, delicious food. Service has improved. One point though, last time I was in very few of the beers on the menu were available.

Stone hearth has yummy pizza.. it's fresh and delicious, and the crust is nice and thin so you don't feel overstuffed later. They have some very unique combinations like the divine goddess (veggies + garlic oil), the bean (white bean spread with pesto salad and spinach), and farm fresh (peppers, potatoes, artichokes, prosciutto). It's a bit pricy - almost $20 for a "large" pizza that feeds 2, so I walk away feeling a bit ripped off, but taking advantage of deals on groupon make this a very delicious dinner!

Stone Hearth Pizza has excellent pizza with great consistency. I have dined here about 30 times and 80% of the time I am never disappointed. The environment is fun, playful and extremely kid-friendly. I always see a handful of families with young children every time I dine. All of the food is homemade from scratch, fresh and organic. Pizzas are available in all different types of crust: whole-wheat, multi-grain, etc. They have a couple of local New England microbrews, which are very tasty. Every visit, I always order the same pizza: The Farm Fresh. I have tried a few other pizzas here and there, but the farm fresh pizza is by far the BEST. All of the other items I have tried have been okay to pretty good. The Farm Fresh contains garlic oil, cherry tomatoes, charred red/yellow peppers, yukon gold potatoes, artichoke hearts, green olives, fresh mozzarella, and is topped with arugula, red onion and prosciutto. This pizza is light and healthy, yet delicious and flavorful at the same time. I crave it at least once per week. Remember: this review is based pretty much on one pizza: THE FARM FRESH PIZZA! I will continue to provide Stone Hearth Pizza business at least 1-2 times per month for this dish only.

Stone Hearth is always so great! I came with my Grandmother on a Tuesday for lunch, and it was surprisingly busy busy!! Despite the busyness our pizzas came out within a reasonable amount of time. I got the gluten-free peperoni pizza with broccoli and feta cheese. So delicious. Needed some more garlic or other flavor, and they skimped on the broccoli, but whatever. The gluten-free crust here at Stone Hearth is just so so good. I could eat it absolutely plain (and I am not a carbo bread loving person). Our waitress was so nice and took care of us well. Thanks again Stone Hearth!

So very disappointed in the food recently and went June 8,2014 with my daughter and grandchild and had the worst dining experience of the year. This used to be so good but it was horrible salty no sauce rubbery cheese and very little of it. Macaroni and cheese tasted like glue and if no cheese taste. My suggestion is that the owners should visit the Village Kitchen in Cambridge to see how this simple small place makes their crust and taste their different pizzas to see what they do. Folks, Just came back back from bringing take-out. We ordered: - Parmesan bread - Pizza - Spinach Salad - Diablo (pasta) One word - nasty! The diablo pasta was full of chilli pepper flakes for the sake of making it hot without a decently hot yet acceptable plate. The pizza was bad - Comella's next door is much better. The foccacia bread was not even cooked - cold from the freezer. Anyway, will not be going back again. I would rather spend the money at Comella's any day.

I really enjoy the pizza at Stone Hearth. They also offer Gluten Free pizza which is such a huge blessing for my GF friend. I come here quite a bit for take out, but last week we stopped in on a fairly busy night for dinner. The staff really seemed to have their hands full. The service was not great, but better than a really poor Stone Hearth experience I recently had at the Hingham location. I've tried their pastas as well, and they're also good, but I really come here for the pizza. I don't know what it is with Stone Hearth, they have great food, good marketing capitalizing on their locally sourced ingredients, but they can't quite get the management/service down. I hope they do because this place would be the best pizza place in the area if they could.

I found it hard giving this place 3 stars instead of 4 (it is really 3.5). Pros: * They are very friendly, kid friendly, and have a good menu pizza and beyond. * They are trying to do something difficult: not only serve good pizza/italian, but do it with organic ingredients and whatnot. Which can be harder. Cons: * I've had their pizza twice. It is tasty. It is nice to look at. But it is not excellent that you are dying to eat it again (e.g. a crust to remember, or some particular combination to remember, or a simple pizza like marguerite done to perfection, etc.)

Stone hearth is a unique concept in pizza. If you are looking for a greasy overloaded with cheese pizza this is not your place. They have a healthier version of pizza with gluten free options and made from scratch fresh ingredients. It should then be graded on those merits of making a healthy pizza taste good ( not an easy feat I might add. I read some of the negative reviews here and I am always shocked at how people can give a 1 star rating when comparing to a completely different concept. One negative review even had the audacity to give a 1 star rating after receiving a free coupon in the mail as a welcome gift. Okay, fine this restaurant is not to your specific taste. We get it. But to trash a place after receiving such a gift is just bad manners, bad karma and bad form. I am sorry but that just makes me angry. Anyway, I really, really like this place. I appreciate their going outside of the norm and offering a healthier option. They use local, organic and sustainable ingredients and the owners have a passion for what they do and that is a huge plus. It is a small business that I am happy to support and recommend. If they make a mistake or we don't like something they are quick to fix it on the spot. I mention it there and they fix it. My personal and family favorite is the classic and the spinach and avocado salad.

Meh. That's what I think of Stone Hearth. I ordered take out for myself, fiancé, and two kids we were taking care of. Kids don't complain about pizza... But this cheese pizza was so paper thin they were pretending to use it as a napkin. No joke. Salads could use a little extra in them. My fiancé enjoyed his chicken and broccoli pasta and THANK you for the gluten free options. Best brownie ever... Where do they get those from??? Overall, love the concept of local ingredients, but beef up the food a bit please!!

Uncle. I'm tapping out. You had me at Create Your Own Pizza. Not only are the standard pies in this place freaking brilliant, their CYOP option is on point. Last night I created a potato and steak pizza. Yes. Potato. And. Steak. Plus four cheeses. Good Lord. The small pizzas are...ridiculously small, so I would recommend getting the "regular" size or going crazy and getting the large. Regardless of size, you will get a delicious pie. Like a goddamn delicious pie. Yum.

First, I want to say I had an old gift card for Stone Hearth and couldn't find out what my balance was. So I wrote to SHP. They wrote back and gave me a replacement card! I wasn't totally sure what my balance was. So based on that SHP is a great small business to support. Second, the pizza is delicious!

Avoid this place! I've been here ~7 times and EACH time they've screwed up something. For a small place the wait times defy explanation. The vapid staff generally results in a mostly wrong order, and you're lucky if they visit your table more than to take your order, deliver your food and deliver your check. While the food isn't pricey, it's not worth what they charge. Awful.

Wow this food is mediocre. Went on a Friday night, not that busy but our server still managed to be super slow and messed up our order. Human error, ok, being very slow, not Ok. When the food finally came it was boring. Underseasoned or not seasoned at all, it was blah. Also chicken Pesto pizza has red sauce on it with Pesto on top. We're combo that did not taste good. Pesto was a hunter green. Don't even waste your money on the parmesean bread. It's dry, flaky, flavorless pizza crust with hardly any cheese.

We'd wanted to try SHP for a long time and finally did this Sunday. The restaurant is really long and narrow, but they made smart decisions by keeping the ceilings high by doing bulkheads instead of a uniform drop ceiling. The server was cute and professional and adept at handling many tables at once. The cider on tap was delicious and I appreciated that they had cider on tap because so many places do not. We had a white bean pizza on multi-grain crust, which was very very good. I was dubious at first, thinking that multi-grain pizzas have a tendency to be dry, but it was flavorful and had a great chewy texture. I think we will definitely be ordering from here in the future.

Dirty silverware and glassware. frozen pasta. unwashed spinach salad and greasy, soggy pizza. The only highlight was the wine, which we should of drank alot more of. The best was watching our waitress take out a bottle of Herseys chocolate syrup to put on top of our "homemade" chocolate fudge sundae. And when I gave my waitress the heads up about all of this. Her response? "Wow, you guys have had alot of problems today." Ummmm, lady, your restaurant is the one with the problem(s). Call Chef Ramsey; he's your only hope.

I'll be brief. I have no idea what other people see in this place. The pizzas are ridiculously small and very thin so you can't even fill up on crust. We also had the stuffed meatball appetizer and, while tasty, it only contained three small (about the same diameter as a quarter) meatballs. It also carried a $5.50 price tag. For three tiny meatballs. The place itself is nice enough although they only had one extremely overworked waitress the night we went so service was really slow. I will say that the pizza itself was quite tasty and not overly greasy. If it were a little cheaper, thicker, and had more toppings, it would've made for an excellent pie. Bottom line: Don't come here if you're hungry or in a hurry.

  • Alyssa J P.

I got a regular pizza here to share with Jeff. No cheese, but pineapple and banana peppers (which, for the record, were the un-spiciest banana peppers I've ever eaten). This pizza was tiny, and I don't just mean it had a small diameter. It also had a small height, which meant that there was not even a thick, filling crust to make up for the lack of substance. If I had been eating it on my own, I may have been temporarily satiated, but it was no good for two people to eat for dinner. I think we burned more calories eating it than we gained by the pizza. Also, there was almost no flavor on the pizza whatsoever. Do they not have spices in their tomato sauce? Where do they buy banana peppers that aren't picante? Why do they use canned pineapple slices so thin you can see through them? Why do people eat here?

This pizzeria is Belmont's little gem. We usually get takeout from here. While waiting for the pizza to be done, I highly recommend tasting their beers, they have a nice selection of micro brews. As far as pizzas go, all the ingredients are organic, locally grown and very tasty. They also make lots of gluten free dishes. I love their homemade sausage and caramelized onion pizza, prosciutto and pineapple, farm fresh or any other pizza. Friday nights at SHP are very crowded, people stand in line to get a seat, but you can sip your wine of beer while waiting.

Honey, I Shrunk The pizza !!!!! We picked up as takeout with a Groupon. The good: Pizza was good, not fantastic but non greasy. Menu is some old standards, some of the new boutique that is popular now. We had the Bean and Goddess pizza and meatballs in spicy sauce. The bean was okay, but lacked flavor if I did not get a bit of pesto on the slice. Meatballs tasted like my moms, fresh, sauce was good. Because it was takeout, they were nice enough to put the fresh spinach in a separate container so it would not get soggy on the ride home. Person behind the counter was very nice. They offer gluten free as well. The Not-So good. When did pizza go high end like $trBcks with its coffee? The regular 12" pizza was ACTUALLY 10 1/2" ( yes, I measured it) and very thin, it should be considered a child's pizza. I do not recommend if you are very hungry, it can get expensive. I know they use all natural, local ingredients, but I cannot get over paying $13 for a snack. Choco-chip cookie was a bit stale, but less than $1, so no biggie. I would not visit again because costs too much, we were cheated on the size and I can get gourmet wood fired pizza for similar prices in my area.

Every time I go here I wonder why i bothered. We went here tonight since I had bought a Groupon (or one of those). I like their local food thing, but that's about it. Service tonight left a lot to be desired and was enough that I think it was likely our last visit. Don't ever get the cheddar olives, they were gross. I think the only thing our server did right tonight was to try to warn us against them, but we decided to live on the edge. Bad move. Our waitress basically ignored us. I even got up to get my own dessert menu. We had an almost one year old (tomorrow, hooray) with us so you think she would have known we weren't looking for the leisurely drawn out dinner. We wanted to eat and go home. We were there FOREVER and when we finally get the bill it was wrong. With all the other pizza options around I think I'm done with SHP. If i want something that isn't your typical pizza shop I'll rely on my favorites like Zing, Emma's or even Za.

The location is much smaller then anticipated, and on a cold night, you get a chill when someone opens the door. They have curtains blocking those on the sides, but they really should consider rounding out those curtains, because the end tables get a blast. At anyrate, menu... I was honestly not blown away with their own creations, but then again, I like lots of foo foo stuff on my pie... we settled on a half and half, sausage/red pepper and carm onion and half 'cheesburger'... the sausage/red pepper/carm onion combo WAY better then the cheeseburger..but it was stll good. We started with a chopped salad, it was awesome. My son ate his kids cheese pizza... $8.50 for a kids meal is abit pricey, especially with no drink included "(just sayin'). I was really hoping to get dessert.. but they don't have it on the menu, kind of a bummer. Best pizza I have had in a long time... we will be back.

I visited StoneHearth Pizza recently because I received a $60 gift card from my youth soccer team as a gift. After having an enjoyable meal with my wife, I presented the gift card along with another gift card that I previously used and knew to have a balance. I was informed by our waitress that one card had a $50 value (I had the gift receipt at home with the $60 balance) while the other card supposedly had no balance. These were both blatantly false. I did not not have the receipts with me so I had no basis for my argument but I knew the truth. This is the second time I have had a hassle using gift cards at this establishment. If you are planning to use a gift card, I would check my balance before eating. For less hassle and cost, go next door to Comella's.

I just love that they use Local Companies and they are organic! Great food at reasonable prices. I usually get my pizza to go because at least in Belmont it gets very loud and just a tad messy if busy) . My favorite is the Bacon and Blue ( that is what I get when I want to splurge). I will also admit that I even get the GF pizza sometimes and that is not half bad either! They "know good pizza"!!!

Okay, to be honest, when I was reading the reviews that were bad, I was a little hesitant about going there for dinner and drinks. Turns out, it's a good thing that I didn't listen to the awful reviews that people said about Stone Hearth Pizza! The service was fantastic, the wine - perfection and the food is spectacular!!! I would SO go again and I can't wait until I go again to try a different food plate! I got the Spinach & Roasted Chicken Pasta dish. OH MY GOD!!!!!!!! So freakin' good!!!!! Such great flavor in the dish, fresh spinach, home made white sauce, the pasta was cooked to perfection! If you are not sure if you want to try Stone Hearth Pizza, give it a try. It's not for everyone, but if you enjoy home made, fresh, organic food then this is the place for you.

Haven't been to SHP in Belmont for more than 6 months. I always loved the food, wine and atmosphere. I got a Groupon back in the summer, and we decided to use it last night, a Sunday. We got there around 7:30pm, and there were about 4 tables filled. We seated ourselves, and a friendly server brought us menus. We ordered the two specials: a beet salad and a pizza with butternut squash and bacon. While we were waiting for our food, I noticed that the floors which were really messy with junk really need to be refinished: they are dirty and worn. Also, I think the staff used to wear SHP shirts or hats and tho' the kitchen staff were wearing them, the waitstaff was dressed randomly. Another server brought our salad. Although tasty, the amount of beets in the beet salad was paltry: we had to search for them under a mound of carrots. There were two small slices of red onion and 3 walnuts on top. For $8, I expected a little more. The second server returned with our pizza. After she placed it on the table, she asked if we wanted new plates. In the past, the server always replaced our dirty salad dishes with clean plates before the next course arrived. Because we didn't want the pizza to get cold while we waited for new plates, we stayed with our wet salad plates. Not cool. Nevertheless, the pizza was delicious, an interesting combo of ingredients and flavors. The first server came back to ask us how the food was which I appreciated. Meanwhile, the second server grabbed a broom and started sweeping the floor across from where we were seated. It was about 8:10pm. The kitchen staff was cleaning the kitchen. I don't know about you but I'm not crazy about eating while someone is sweeping up dirt and refuse about 6 feet from where I'm eating. After she finished sweeping, the first server brought out a bucket and was about to start washing the floor. I was horrified, and my significant other approached her because I was kind of upset, and asked her if she was going to wash the floor right now. She said, yes on this side of the restaurant. He asked if she could wait till we finished eating. She did. There were still 3 tables of customers at that point. We flagged the first server down, as we were being ignored, to ask about ordering dessert. When she came to our table, I asked her what time the restaurant closed. She said the last customers are seated at 8:30 and the restaurant closes at 9pm. I guess the workers were in a hurry to leave at 9, since they started washing up at 8:10pm! We ordered dessert, and the server returned with the yummy gelato but didn't clean off our dirty table before placing the dessert on top of salad scraps. Although the food is still good, I was really put off by the service. Probably because we always order wine with dinner, our bill is not cheap even with the Groupon we used this time. So I'm not crazy about eating while the staff cleans the restaurant and gets ready to close. Not sure that I'd rush back to SHP in Belmont.

God awful pizza. I ordered a large bacon and pineapple (which used to be a fantastic combo at upper crust) with thai chilis on a couple slices. It literally smelled like vomit. Apparently thai chilis at his place just means flakes of dried chili, as opposed to fresh slices. Also their large is 8 slices and looks like a medium anywhere else. I won't be back here anytime soon.

First off, if you're gluten free this place gets a big thumbs up from my gf (she's gluten free). Although her big tip is to eat it while it's hot. She's had (and I've tried) the gf pasta and pizzas which she loves. Second, I've had the regular pizza's (four cheese and one four cheese with spinach) and the chicken and pasta (there was something else in it just can't remember), caesar salad, their stuffed meatballs, and it was all great. Very tasty food (although not very healthy but I suppose flat bread pizza's are a bit healthier), great service, and attention to quality. This is one of those places that has a really unique feel to it that makes you feel like you've stepped away from chain restaurants. I've eaten in and done take out. Food is always served hot and they serve beers and wine in the restaurant (although limited seating). The menu isn't huge, which I really like because it's most often a sign of higher quality.

For me I am a fan of the concept here with fresh ingredients and the ambiance is fresh and modern. I find the pizza we had were very tasty and fresh. The prosciutto and pineapple was very good and full of flavor, a nice alternative to a Hawaiian at most places. However, that being said the service was not good at all here. It was filled with a handful of guys who were mailing it in. Several didn't speak enough English or didn't know the menu. When ordering drinks, they didn't know what they had, which was strange to me. Our drinks didn't arrive until the food arrived. I think this place should be excellent if they can work on their service problems. Pricing was pretty reasonable and I would try take-out from here hoping for better results.

Being gluten free, I have eaten at enough restaurants that try to mirror the taste of actual glutentinous bread. Some of have been awesome (mushroom risotto at Risotteria) some have been mediocre (pizza at Ortine at Brooklyn) and some have been miserable (Brownie at Mozzarelli's). As such, my expectations for gluten-free pizza are not very high. I've come to expect corn meal crust that barely rises and has a funky aftertaste. But alas, as someone who can't eat pizza at a corner shop, I've come to appreciate the fact that some places offer GF pizza, at this point. My standards have risen though, because of Stone Hearth Pizza. I came into this restaurant expecting gross corn meal crust. I was sadly mistaken. My pizza here tasted like....REAL PIZZA. I was so in awe that I had my dining mates try my pizza crust, and they attested to the fact that my GF pizza tasted like the real thing. I also loved the fact that I could build my own pizza and choose any ingredients that I wanted. I went with the fresh mozz/ smoked bacon/ garlic oil/ fresh basil and all the ingredients blended together beautifully. I was in heaven. Next time I visit the parents in Boston, I cannot wait to take them here!!! I wish Stone Hearth would expand their franchise to New York City.

5-Star food minus a star for slow service. This place serves delicious pizza and pasta in a casual family ambiance. I just ache for it to speed up service to get that extra star. The servers seem diligent, and there is no egregious yapping amongst themselves, etc. I have to guess it's a management or workflow/organizational issue. The times I've been there, we've had to directly request faster service, which is not something that makes us feel any better either. But the tasty food, which tries to lean toward organic and locally sourced, is what brings us back. Last time, the Sloppy Joe pizza was a hit. The various meat and veggie calzones I've had were very good. The Greek salad was fresh. The appetizers - some fried mozzarella or was it jalapenos...I forget, but they were good. The pasta with meatballs was also good.

I'm going to have to disagree with most of the reviewers here. I've only been here once, but that was enough. Our group ordered a salad and a pizza. The salad came and they made the pizza. I had a great view of the brick oven and saw them pull out our pizza and put it on a cooling rack. When we were done with our salad, our pizza was slipped back in the oven and reheated. As someone who values fresh and hot pizza, I find this practice unacceptable. After being horrified of this, I watched to see if ours was the only pizza that got the reheating treatment to find that it was a common practice. The only reason that I give this establishment two stars instead of one star is because they use Fiestaware. It should be noted that this is a very kid friendly establishment.

I like their pizza a lot but have yet to try out the different pastas, salads, etc that they serve. The featured squash pizza that was part of their fall specials was an excellent little gem. Using local, sustainable ingredients is especially awesome. Isn't it lovely to do something good for the earth while enjoying the company of friends?

This is a painful review for me to write. I love how they use local ingredients. When I went in, the woman working behind the take-out register was super-nice, very friendly, and even offered me a drink while I waited since it was so hot outside... Unfortunately, the pizza just wasn't good. I got the margherita pizza, so I knew that it would be fresh mozz pieces spread around the pie, but when i opened the box, I couldn't believe how little cheese there was. There wasn't even one full bite of cheese per slice. And where there was cheese, there was so little that you could literally see right through to the sauce. The crust was good. The sauce was generic, if not a little bland.

Gluten free options and excellent crispy crust pizza. I have had the bacon and blue pizza with Great Hill blue cheese....so yummy. My wife loves the Pepperonata. We usually get take out but they have some good beer options and the desserts they have available are often gluten free as well. A great place for all those gluten free eaters out there at reasonable prices.

Good pizzas but very inconsistent service and numerous mistakes in the takeout section despite complaints to the management. The most disappointing was to get a piece of pasta in the toppings for a gluten free pizza. For gluten sensitive folks this does not engender a lot of confidence.

Stone Hearth is a different kind of pizza place. They use local ingredients, and offer plenty of healthier pizzas. I haven't branched out beyond their pizza, but those in my party that have usually wish they ordered pizza. The menu also offers an excellent, rotating selection of local beers. Fresh, healthy pizza and local beer = A-OK in my book. I give it three stars not just for the mediocre pizza alternatives, but also for the service. The place is usually understaffed and swamped on weekends. On more than one occasion we have had our order messed up. However, if you're in Belmont and craving pizza, I recommend Stone Hearth over the greasy stuff any day of the week.

While I still prefer a good, plain piece of New York style pizza, I cannot help but appreciate this place. From their site it says that Stone Hearth Pizza is committed to: "sourcing sustainable, organic and, whenever possible, local ingredients ensures a superior product, supports family farming, protects natural resources and strengthens local economies" How cool is that? I really like the idea of local businesses working in conjunction with other local businesses. All their pizzas are cooked in a stone hearth oven and come with all sorts of toppings ranging from Maple Brook Farm cheese, goat chese, angus beef, basil, pesto, white bean spread, nirate free sausage, caramelized onions, roasted chicken...the list goes on and on. The pizzas are a perfect size portion wise, so you won't feel all bloated and gross afterwards, and are great to split a few with friends so you can try all sorts of organic pizza-y goodness. They also serve up some really good gellato, and everything tastes just as good home as it does in the restaurant.

Stone Hearth, I wanted to like you, really I did, but the Saturday afternoon experience I had with you was just not up to par. My husband and I had never been to Stone Hearth before and decided to try it on a slow Saturday afternoon. There were two other tables occupied in the restaurant. First, the waitress was not very nice at all. I am a waitress, so I'm not looking for some sort of unattainable degree of service. I asked if they made calzones and she briskly pointed to the "Stromboli" section and said they were the same thing. The ones that were on the menu had predetermined fillings, so I asked if I could create my own. She looked at me like my question didn't make sense and said that I had "four to choose from" (there were only three). I don't know if the Stromboli fillings were pre-made and they couldn't deviate from them? We ordered the meatball appetizer and it was really yummy. The meatballs themselves could have been a little bit hotter, but the tomato sauce was excellent. My husband and I both ordered pizzas. I ordered the four cheese pizza with chopped tomatoes, caramelized onions, and arugula. When the pizzas came out, I realized that mine had no onions on it. The waitress appologized brought me a bowl of caramelized onions on the side. Also, and this is completely MY fault, I thought the arugula would be placed fresh on top of the pizza, but it was actually cooked and I wasn't a huge fan. Although I enjoyed the taste of the crust, the middle of it was just plain soggy. My husband's pizza was the same way, although he did enjoy the toppings. Our waitress apparently ended her shift after we received our pizzas. All of a sudden we had a new waitress, who seemed much nicer but it was already the end of meal. We didn't stick around to try dessert.

Horrendous service. We waited for about 35 minutes on a Saturday night. We were seated at a table with our two daughters. Our "waiter" (if you could call him that) responded to my daughter's request for crayons with "sorry, we ran out" and then handed her and my other daughter 1 single crayon to share. He didn't ask what I wanted to drink, what dressings we wanted on our salads. He didn't ask us how our meals were, if we needed anything else. I had to get up from my seat and search for napkins for one member of our party who needed them for buffalo wings. I had to get up from my seat again to search for more water for all of us. I has to get up from my seat again and search for someone to give us out check. In fact, lots of people were standing up in the crowded restaurant, wanted their check, wanting to pay and leave, but to no avail. I saw a couple just walk out in frustration. We would have ordered dessert, another beer, etc....but our "waiter" never came within 20 feet of our table during our entire meal, except to serve us (throw us?) our food. The food we did eat was delicious, but hard to enjoy since the portions were quite small, and we didn't have things like more water, napkins, drinks, etc. Would we come back? Not a chance.

This is a different pizza place. Way high consciousness about the pizza. And everything they do, from wraps to their salads, which are good. They serve as if it's a restaurant, not with the usual rush I might get from the Entourage style of pizza place. I have been several times in the past weeks, taking guests that are impressed. Their monthly specials are great, with a different themed salad and pizza. Service is fine, with the waitress keeping the tap water glasses filled. It's all I ever ask. It took some getting use to. I judged harshly at first, but I have really warmed up to their style of store. I recommend them strongly.

Nothing like dropping into a place because it looks like the best option, only to discover it is completely focused in your philosophy of choice. I could not be happier to know that when I want to grab lunch in Belmont, there is a sustainably conscious restaurant for me to dine in!

Great experience here tonight. 2 salads were ordered and both were enjoyed. The pizza the 3 of us split was fantastic. Why do you have multigrain listed as a pizza dough but not have it? The caramelized onions were fabulous. Pizza wasn't greasy and loved the thin crust. It was all well balanced with the sauce and cheese; it felt light and not unhealthy. It shouldn't be too difficult in a pizza restaurant to remember to make it the way it is ordered. The basil (one of the 3 toppings we ordered) was left off.

  • I.M. B.

This place is fab. The staff are great. We eat here on a regular basis. Try the monthly special salad and you won't be disappointed. The pizzas and sandwiches are light and healthy. A cheese-less veggie pizza still tastes great since the sauce is so good. Their $5 lunch take-out special for an individual cheese or pepperoni pizza and a drink is a steal.

Clearly these other reviewers are expecting a lot for a "pizza place" I have never had the pizza, yet enjoyed the whole wheat paninis! They are made to order and always delicious! The staff is hardworking and very pleasant. If you're not at the Ritz don't act so snobby, this is a great little place that serves fabulous food!

What's not to like about Stone Hearth Pizza? Well - nothing. It has a great range of pizza, pasta, and other goodies on the menu. My son has a bunch of food allergies (NO NOT GLUTEN) but dairy, nuts, soy, and eggs. So - we can get him a bacon and chicken pizza with olive oil here and he's really happy. I love the meatballs - sandwich or pasta - and the cheeseburger pizza is amazing. Another favorite is the Bean - a fresh bean and arugula topped pizza. Really great service too and we always go at lunch, but have gone for dinner to pick up pizzas for a party - also on time and hot/fresh.

food is delicious and fast. They use nothing but local ingredients which is good for, well, everyone. My favorite pie is the homemade sausage and caramelized onions (with anchovies!). And I usually order it on a wheat crust, which pretty much tastes like the regular crust. I would give Stone Hearth 5 stars, however the prices are a little on the high side of things. I suppose that's because of the local ingredients. If so, it's worth it.

This is the pizza that Upper Crust wants to be. Plain and simple they use the absolute best ingredients from local farms, and offer flavor combinations that actually work (as opposed to most "gourmet" pizza places that seem to throw darts at trend menus and cram all the ingredients from dishes onto dough). The pizza is straight up fantastic, and the salads are so crisp and delightful. The wine selection is good too. Definitely a great place to check out.

I seriously wish I could give this place negative stars. I guess the one is for pleasant tasting tap water. The food was beyond bland. Hard to make garlic infused olive oil tasteless and invisible, but they somehow managed. My friend's pizza was also supposed to have caramelized onions that were also tasteless and invisible. Bravo, SHP, that's a talent. Nothing was flavorful or interesting. We wanted to like it here, because we love this sort of pizza and the concept is great, but we do like flavor. We were ignored after ordering until we were done eating, with not even a check in or water refill. Also, when our bill came, both of our pizzas were priced incorrectly. When we pointed it out to the waiter he said he'd check with the manager. The manager brought a corrected check and apologized for one, but told me my pizza should have been the higher price because I hadn't ordered the standard cheese blend but an expensive cheese. Um, check your menu. It clearly states pick one cheese, then has a list of cheeses. No additional price info. And when I pointed out that I had even confirmed this with our waiter, which our waiter never denied, the manager got angry and turned on his heel and stormed off. I have had more pleasant service in a McDonalds. Bottom line can be summed up in 2 words. DON'T GO.

I thought I had written a review for this place, but I guess not! I went here today only for the second time. I remember enjoying their pizza last time so my friend and I thought we'd stop by for a quick bite. It turns out they have a great deal going on. For just $5, you can get a whole jr. pizza (an individual one) and a soda! You can choose from cheese, pepperoni, or cheeseburger. I got the cheese and my friend got the cheeseburger. The food was ready quickly and we both agreed the pizza hit the spot. The ingredients are fresh and service is really friendly. A waitress asked us if we wanted to something to drink while we waited. For those who can't have wheat, they have gluten-free options too!

I've had better pizza. Went on a Saturday for late lunch. We were the 3rd table seated but the place filled up... EVERYONE got their food before us, (we ordered 2 individual pizzas - nothing special), we finished eating, by now it's empty but we sat waiting for the check, I finally asked for it, we immediately put money on the table & the waiter walked by at least 3 times before I had to ask for change. Nothing about the experience wowed me & maybe I'm old-fashioned, but i'm not a fan of guys in the service industry wearing droopy pants with their ass/boxers hanging out. Come on... this is Belmont.

Simply put, the food is decent but the service SUCKS! To be fair, they do offer you a choice of service - a) you have the option to be ignored completely by your server, or b) you have the option to be served by a miserable unfriendly server. We stopped in for a quick sandwich, but no such thing as a quick anything in this place. Best pack a snack and settle in for a nice long wait. Two iced teas arrived fast enough - okay, a nice start to the meal. However... over an HOUR later and the sandwiches were finally and rather unceremoniously slammed on the table. In summary, the food is good enough (say 2-3 stars), but it isn't good enough to endure the wait, and the poor and surly service, every time (zero stars)! Why do we keep going there?! How does it remain in business??! Thank you Comella's for finally opening in Belmont!

Not amused. 1. There was a pool of water on my table that took forever to get taken care of, because I didn't have a single napkin and there was only one waitress who was not only oblivious of the issue, but also took forever to track down 2. When the spicy mozerella meatball appetizer arrived, my boyfriend and I were not even given plates to eat off of 3. Noisy, noisy, noisy, noisy, noisy 4. The restaurant boasts about their use of local products/ingredients; however, they still use ingredients like pineapple that are shipped over 5,000 miles 5. In the menu, there is no way of telling which ingredients are local and which ones are not 6. The waitress could have at least pretended to be a little more pleasant and not been so stingy with the napkins, afterall, it is pizza that they're serving Although this isn't a terrible restaurant, there are so many better ones out there. Go to Za in Arlington or Flatbread in Burlington - both support local businesses and have much better service.

Not a huge fan of this place. I know Belmont is in the almost-burbs area but this place should be out in the 'burbs for sure. Not that the food isn't good, it's decent and they have a few of interesting options - but I'm not rushing back here due to the service. SUCKED! Glasses were dirty, table was dirty, help wasn't helpful. I'd rather hit up Cafe Fiorella's instead.

3.5 stars. Like the concept and the menu with the local ingredients, but it didn't fully come together. Had the gluten free pizza - the crust was ok. The flavor was pretty good, but the texture was odd - almost like shortbread. As those that are familiar with gluten free fare will know, there's usually a tradeoff between taste and texture. I think EVO, Flatt's and the Boynton in Worcester have much better overall gf pizza crust... Stone Hearth's was too thick and dense for my liking. I feel bad about complaining about any gluten free thing though - really, they should be commended for offering it regardless. I got a fall special pizza: it had gouda cheese, zucchini, squash, roasted pepper, roasted tomato and caramelized onion. The veggies were great - char-roasted, but not burnt, and seasoned perfectly. The tomato sauce on the pizza was also great, and tasted like a true marinara. The cheese was too heavy though - gouda is great on the first bite, but an entire pizza with tons of gouda was just too much. I ended up taking most of it off. The environment was alright, and we found parking near the back entrance fairly easily. Lots of kids in a small environment though. Not Stone Hearth's fault. But... squirmy whiny kids with pizza all over there faces were everywhere. Bon Appetit!

Well it is the best game in the area and the food is fresh and local. Nicely prepared While the prices aren't a bargain they are about normal I guess. Pizza was great one time but on the dull side another...but never mass produced and smartly creative. Good beer on tap is always good and salads are great. Service is a bit on the "rough" side but they mean well. When are new england people ever truly pleasant?. There is definitely a hectic feel to the place and service if the place is anywhere near full. The place is oddly noisy as hell and could really use some acoustic treatment- owner take note: ceiling corner treatments are available that make all the difference. Staff and customers end up shouting to each other to be heard.

I think Stone Hearth is a step up from a run of the mill pizza joint. The decor is nice and soothing, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable about items on the menu, and the menu has a lot to offer. I like the option to have a wheat crust and I also like that there are gluten free options on the menu. I have tried several variations of pizza toppings and all have been very good. They have appetizers that are also unique and tasty. I particularly liked their eggplant dip served with bread sticks. I think they have a pretty good wine and beer list, and have enjoyed the recommendation from the staff on trying new wines paired up the pizza I ordered.

Like being served overpriced pizza with a flaccid crust by hostile servers in a drafty hallway? Stone Hearth is for you. I tend to assume negative reviews like this are usually written by cranks with impossibly high standards who specialize in antagonizing their servers with unreasonable demands and idiotic questions. Or who expect service with a smile. I don't. I expect very little and have pretty low standards. It's what allowed me to dine here about a dozen times. Finally, after being completely and unapologetically hosed and then lied to about my turn to be seated, I said forget it, why do I keep giving my money to these people? The pizza isn't that good and the staff often seem to be grievously burdened by taking your order. Shine that.

The two pizza's my friend and I ordered were very good. Their small (jr.) size is VERY small so we got the medium and split both. The barbecue chicken and the chicken pesto. The pesto was DELICIOUS. The food I can do with but my waitress I could do without- very inattentive.

One of the restaurants we visit most frequently. My kids love it, and so do I. They serve pasta, but we've never eaten it, so this review applies only to pizza and the apps we've tried. This place is extremely kid-friendly. I do see tables with only adults, but at least half (at dinner-time, less at lunch) go to families with kids. They accommodate all our weird requests (no cheese for one kid, extra cheese for the other kid, no black spots on the crust for both kids, the parmesan flatbread without parmesan[!], etc.). The pizza is made in a wood-burning oven, the crust is flat and generally crisper. They offer choices b/w fresh mozzarella and the blend most Americans are more used to, sauce or oil, a bazillion toppings. My FAVORITE pizza is only available in October (butternut squash) -- but they say they may extend its season. The bacon is amazing. Lots of organic and local ingredients. Friendly staff who will act like they recognize you if you've been there before. This place gets VERY BUSY on Friday/Sat evenings -- and because it's so popular with kids, it gets busy earlier than you'd think (fills up by 6). They don't take reservations as far as I know, so get there early or be prepared to wait a bit. We've never had to wait on a weeknight, only weekends. The only negative thing I could say about this place is that the fountain drinks are flat -- but soda's not good for you anyway, so have a glass of delicious Belmont tap water instead and go home happy (they also serve beer).

I was hoping to like this place, but I don't. I've been here twice and won't go again. The pizzas were just ok. The first time I got the margherita pizza which was pretty bland, didn't have enough cheese. The second time, I asked if they could make the buffalo chicken pizza with tofu instead of chicken, and the waitress said they could, but the pizza came out with chicken AND tofu so I had to wait for them to make a new pizza. When it came out, it had tofu (skimpy!) and no meat but was a BBQ pizza. Not wanting to make even more of a stink, I just ate it. It wasn't bad, but I would have preferred my buffalo pizza. The people next to us had their order messed up, too -- I could hear the waitress yelling at the kitchen staff! The waitress mostly ignored us. Didn't refill my drink, didn't look at us while I was trying to catch her eye, didn't check on us, just whizzed by. She did give us free dessert to make up for the messed up pizza order, and seemed apologetic, but that was the only time she paid us any attention. It's kind of pricey for mediocrity.

I absolute love the IDEA of this place. but like many others have noted, the execution is off. the price point is high but that does not bother me so much as all the ingredients are locally grown and fresh as can be! in that sense it is worth the money. but the taste... the taste is just lacking. I would love to find a place like stone hearth that actually gets it right. its been awhile since Ive been here but for vegans especially, I think its worth a try if you are really craving some healthy pizza. I think the trick is to allow yourself a small pizza to eat the whole thing because otherwise you will still be hungry. best bet: learn how to make some kick-ass unrefined wheat dough in your own kitchen and you can probably do better.

I'd passed Stone Hearth several times on my way to a fantastic beer vendor in the area. Since my GF has dietary issues and avoids gluten, but we were both craving pizza, we decided to give Stone Hearth a shot. First, the phone call to place our order. Picked up after the 5-6th ring, we were quickly asked to hold. Which I did. For a long, long time... Then was disconnected. We called back and got a message saying all lines were tied up, so we tried again, this time getting to a person who only had us on hold for about 4 minutes before taking our order. From the sounds in the background, the place was packed, so we fully expected some good pizza. When we entered the pizzeria to pick up our order, we indeed found it packed with people and quite a long line waiting to be seated. The staff behind the counter were, as noted by others, very friendly even in the face of such massive numbers of customers, and our pizzas were ready in almost exactly the amount of time we were told, so aside from the attempts to call, our first impressions were favorable. Then we tried the pizzas. I got the Hawaiian, which has pineapple and prosciutto, my GF got the gluten free version of the classic cheese with mushrooms. A 12" personal pizza for $15 should, IMO, be well above par to your average local pizza joint. As a matter of fact, for $15, I should expect a well above average personal pizza and maybe a handjob in the parking lot. I received neither (Not that I didn't try, but GF wasn't amused...). The pizza was so stunningly average I was shocked and underwhelmed. Frankly I don't even know where to begin beyond saying that it was hardly better than a thin crust pizza bought at Shaws, adding the lowest cost prosciutto available at Trader Joes. I sat there with a slice of $15 pizza I could have made myself for perhaps $6.50, tops, with ingredients left over. My GFs gluten free pizza was essentially the same lack of value. The cheese was just sort of "there", the sauce was the same as on mine. The only aspect of this which was better than average was that the mushrooms were in fact fresh and not from a can, other than that... meh. The gluten free crust, like most others I've tried and ones you can buy yourself from Whole Foods, is best while very hot, so getting one takeout isn't a great idea unless you'll be eating it right away. For the prices they charge, these pizzas should be exceptional, and if you are restricted to gluten free, they're OK but you can find better over in Somerville and Cambridge (Google). But the regular pizzas? Yeah, they're OK I suppose if they're the only game in town, however just a short hop away you'll find the W House in Watertown or Stella's, where the pizza is far superior and the prices are far more reasonable.

I've been here many, many times. For me, good pizza is mostly about having good ingredients, and this place has them. I really love the pizza here -- thin crust style, choice of sauces, choice of white or whole wheat dough. They have monthly specials, a roster of standard pizzas, or you can build your own from a big palette of ingredients. They offer three sizes, starting at 8 inches. Salads are fresh and tasty. Prices are correspondingly high -- you can't expect cheap when the fixings are so good. It's very kid-friendly, with booster seats, crayons, and scribble-enabled placemats. They offer several kids meals, and let me tell you, their ziti version of mac and cheese is amazing, served with a rich, creamy alfredo sauce. I tend to poach more of it than my daughter actually eats! The kids meals come with a drink and choice of gelato or fresh cookies. The place should really get four stars, but I have to dock them one star for service. The staff is friendly -- and that's the problem. They stand around chatting in twos and threes with each other for long intervals while you wait for them to notice you. When it's at all busy there, your meal can easily stretch out to an hour or more. When you actually get their attention, they're perfectly nice, but it sometimes seems like you're interrupting their social life to ask for water or the check. Still worth a visit, but not when you're in a hurry or have a party member with a 7 pm bedtime.

If you love pizza and fresh food (like me), this is definitely the place for you. The pizza is not like I usually like my pizza: thin, greasy, with lots of cheese and tasty sauce. It is instead, a refreshing, and healthy (but I still get to eat pizza!) Stone Hearth Pizza has interesting specials that follow the season (always a plus in my book) and strive to use local, fresh ingredients. My obsession is the Farm Fresh Pizza without prosciutto and a glass of the red berry (herbal) iced tea. I rarely order anything else to my boyfriends dismay and, given that I only found this place a few months ago, I go here A LOT.

The quality of their ingredients and food is very high. I ordered their spinach and avocado salad with chicken and a bread bowl. Not only was the salad itself very fresh, but the chicken was also very moist and tender, and the bread bowl was simply to die for! Their bread bowl is not typical; I think they use the dough for their pizza crust to crest a thin, tasty, fresh from the oven (actually) bread bowl. I don't think that description does it justice...also I love that they use local and organic ingredients. I need to try their pizza, but they seem to only serve personal pizzas and regular sized pizzas, as opposed to by the slice. Guess I have to get some friends together then

This place used to be great. I'm not sure what happened. But my past three visits here have been awful, the most recent one with terrible service (and there were only 3 tables seated, which is inexcusable). The pizza is overrated, the prices aren't great, the service is meh. You'd think Stone Hearth would amp it up given that Comella's opened next door and features a $5 pizza. I'm sure that is why the restaurant was empty. I won't be going back.

They come sooooo close to being perfect! Very, very close. Stumbled in here looking for a quick lunch in between car test drives, and was pleasantly surprised with a new "good" pizza place. Not the crappy bready oily mess that so many "pizza and roast beef" joints up here push. So - the rundown. Very "cool", colorful decor. Its a sit down place, which was a tad confusing, since there's a huge counter and open kitchen, etc. More on the menu than I expected - great pizza varieties, fancy salads and some good sides listed. The best part.. some very good choices of local brews on tap. If we were'nt about to test drive some cars.. there would have been some samples. Pretty impressive wine list too. Great to see some nice beverages - in fact, just a liquor license - at a good pizza place. Anyway.. the food. Homemade sausage and caramelized onion pizza.. SO close. Again.. so so close. From the toppings down - the sausage was fantastic - the onions were sort of lacking - but there were some very nicely cooked peppers to compensate. Cheese was definitely tasty and real - love the provolone choice. Sauce was tasty and not overdone - very good stuff. Then we get to.. the crust. UGHHH. It looked so perfect - nice and thin, well formed to boot. It smelled great. The big fiery oven looked like it would cook so well. Of course, I knew, and Kim was there reminding me that I should have ordered it well done/crispy. I picked up the first slice.. which fought a bit to let go of its neighbors.. and was so bummed to discover it had no strength - seemed quite underdone to me. While not soggy - it was not nearly as cooked as I would like to see. The slice was too week to really hold with one hand.. and honestly lacked flavor. A little more cooking and this would be very tasty crust - the very edges were great, but the other 98% of the pie was weak. The salad was great - super fresh greens, awesome cheese and delicious bacon. Great homemade dressing too. Was a great accompaniment to the pizza - almost overshadowed it in fact. SO - to summarize. Good look.. good drinks.. good drinks.. nice menu.. great salad.. and... ALMOST great pizza. Just wish it were a bit more cooked. Would definitely go back - and would definitely ask that the pie be cooked properly (note, properly is a relative term, we all have our own tastes).

So fresh and delicious! We had the Melazana appetizer - the eggplant dip was out of this word. I'm not sure what spices were in it, but it was sooo good. I had the portabello and argula salad. The portabellos were incredibly fresh and roasted perfectly. I tasted my friend's pizza - The Bean - and man, was it a tasty pizza! The combination was not something I would have ever thought up, but it tasted amazing!! It's a nice place to sit down with friends - warm and inviting. The staff is very sweet and attentive. Plus, they serve beer and wine which go great with pizza! Definitely would recommend this for quality pizza in the area. Comparable to Bertucci style/quality of pizza, but fresher and more creative creations.

The farm fresh was really yummy but the pepperoni was blah.

Came here for dinner with some Belmont-dwelling friends. One of the few places in this mostly-dry town with a beer and wine license, they had just four taps but all were solid microbrews from New England and one was organic. Cool. Pizza took a while to arrive, but we liked the creative topping options. They also have nitrate-free pepperoni, which I like because it shows that they care about People With Food Sensitivities. Lots of different veggies, and unusual options like a white bean spread instead of tomato sauce. Thin crust pie was okay, I got the eggplant special which I thought would have been better without the olives. Ah well. Individual pizzas were about $10-14 depending on the toppings you want. Reasonable amount of food. Servers appeared to be perky 18 year olds except for ours, who came by twice! to let us know that our food was almost ready and sorry it was taking a while. I didn't think it was taking that long, given our five made-to-order pies, but she clearly cared about the service so that's cool. I'd definitely visit again.

I met some friends here the other night on a whim and it was fantastic. The variety of pizza is excellent and I love the fact that all of the ingredients are locally grown. Two of us has pizza, while one tried a pasta dish. There were absolutely no complaints and would definitely go back.

overpriced small pizzas. last couple of times crust has been burned. Uppercrust and Emmas do a better thin crust pie. Not going back.

Yes it was good. Yes I got what I wanted, yes it tasted good. but was it fantastic, not really. The sauce was good, but i thought it coul be better. I got a create your own pizza, the onions could have been more carmelized, but it was good. everything needs more flavor.

Love the concept (fresh and local ingredients) and the food itself (a good array of pizza toppings, and my crust was hearty and well baked -- crisp, not soggy as some other reviewers have experienced). I had a pizza with tomato sauce, ricotta, arugula, and garlic. It was delicious. Decent restaurants get an extra star for being in Belmont.

I lived up the street from this place since it opened a couple of years ago and never went in because I was under the (false) impression that it was some yuppy place that I probably didn't belong in. The other reason I never went, which turns out to be true, is that this place is very expensive as far as the pizza is concerned - $18 for a large with toppings! However, once you try it, you will begin to understand why. They use the best ingredients and some that I have never seen at other pizza places, like yellow peppers (do I need to get out more?). I have had their BBQ chicken pizza twice now and their Sausage and Carmelized Onion pizza once and both were very tasty. I got take-out so I can't speak much about the dining experience there, but the pizza is very good and it is probably worth the price all things considered.

So I open my mailbox the other day, and I started doing my happy mailbox jig, 'coz there was an awesome coupon for a free order of bruschetta from Stone Hearth. No strings attached, no "Minimum order of $25". Just free, "welcome to the neighborhood" bruschetta. The best kind, right? WRONG. I've never been so unhappy with an order of bruschetta. In theory, it's very easy to make, and nearly impossible to mess up. Somehow, somewhere, some test kitchen chef must have had a terrible head cold, and put together the ingredients that would forever scar my heart. The bruschetta came with three slices: Tomato, white bean, and brown something. The tomato had yellow pepper and some kind of vinegar in it. The white bean bruschetta had a liquid consistency, like it was going to roll off the bread. Then there was this brown topping, and I still can't figure out if it was olive tapenade or eggplant suprise. I took one bite, gagged, and ordered a chocolate milk. The chocolate milk was great. Hubby and I decided on the cheeseburger pizza, and it came out about 15 minutes after we ordered, piping hit and smelling like a Mickey D's burger in all it's glory. Minus the little onions, pickles, and lettuce, of course. It was good, but very oily. I'm not sure if it was from the copious amounts of cheese, or the actual meet, but it was so oily I could only eat one piece. Hubby ate all but one piece. So, if I had one piece out of six pieces, and hubby had 5 pieces, how many slices were on the pie? Cecilia B was right. This is a carnivore's pizza, hands down. I think I would have liked it more if there were some veggies on it. Maybe the pizza was little rich for me, because mi estomago was very unhappy. I'll go back, but next time, I'll try a vegetarian pizza. Stone Hearth has great intentions, with some organic offerings and whole wheat crusts, so I really want to love it. Turn-offs include: Women over 50 as main audience, bathroom's air freshener smells too strongly of tuberose, and sitting too close to the kitchen results in blasts of heat alternating with bursts of chilly air. Turn-ons include: Really friendly wait staff, delicious chocolate milk, and crispy crusts.

Met up with some friends here recently -- they're from Belmont and had gave the place high marks, so we figured we'd give it a try. Not too long of a wait, but the wait was outdoors, which would have been unfortunate in inclement weather. Insomuch as they can, they buy their ingredients from local farms, which is incredible, inspirational, and earned them at least 3 stars right off the bat. Restaurants in the area could learn a trick or two from these guys. I was in a funky mood, so going against all my guy instincts, I opted for a "Californian" wrap instead of a pizza. I guess I figured that if they were buying fresh local produce, what better way to taste it? Definitely worth the gamble -- it was fantastic. As a beer geek, I was also pleasantly surprised to see a small selection of microbrews on tap. Thank you, Stone Hearth, for recognizing the awesome versatility of craft-brewed beer. Anyhow, next time I go (and there *will* be a next time), I'm going to actually get a pizza.

We ordered takeout pizza and salad. The pizza is some of the best that we've had in the area- the salad was very basic.

Their food is great. Their service is always hurried. Their take out - needs help. I had 2 Buy with Me's to use up and decided to get take out, since the wait for a table is always LONG on a friday night. Apparently to place your order takes just as long. I called and waited over 5 minutes for someone to take my order. I asked for a custom stromboli, which basically was the meat lovers with only pepperoni. But a stromboli by definition includes cheese and sauce. About 5 questions later, I think she finally got it. (she thought i meant ONLY pepperoni, no cheese/sauce. Even though I kept saying "I want cheese and sauce". on the menu it says they provide different dipping sauces. so wherever they put it - I want it. I wanted to ask for onions but by the time she got to that part, I decided I would confuse her. Well I did. I got THE SMALLEST stromboli ever, and no sauce. Not inside or out. The experience when I went there on a Friday night was just as confusing and slow as well. She even said "I'm heating up your pizza" (which was the 2nd thing I ordered, but what does she mean heating up?? I wasn't late! They just took forever to get to me!) Unfortunately I had 2 of those Buy with Me coupons, so I had to go back. This time, I made my husband sit on hold. He was actually hung up on 3 times. It took him over 2 minutes and 4 calls to finally get through. This time I ordered the penne/vodka baked pasta with chicken. I think they gave me 2 little slices of chicken. While the meal was good, don't pay extra for a bite of chicken. I love that this place has local food. You can tell the difference when you eat it. And when they get the order right, it is delicious. If you don't have to wait forever for a table, I'd choose dine in service rather than take out. At least I can ask the waitress to fix the orders rather than getting home and being disappointed.

First let me say the manger is nice and customer service friendly. Unfortunately his staff is not so oriented. Getting a table wasn't an option as they had several lone diners sitting in tabels for 2-4 instead of having them sit at the pub tables. We ordered take out instead. 2 things. A GF margaharita pizza and some pasta dish. How does one screw up said order in so many unique ways? First the kid who put toogether the order forgot to make the pasta dish (add 15 minutes to wait time, and no apology just a of we can still make it, you just have to wait). We had asked for extra sauce and they didn't put the lid on (luckily my wife noticed that as that would made a mess of the car, clothes and the evening), finally we get home to find out that their idea of a margharita pizza is mozerella and sauce (no basil...nothing). I called to complain and the manager did offer a giftcard but, I refused. It doesn't matter about a free meal if your night is blown as you get crappy food and waste your time on a weekend. Seriously, if you want my business again hire some compentent staff who can get the order right, make it correctly and do it with a smile. And whent he manager reads this, feel free to refund my money. I still don't want a giftcard as I don't want to waste my time until you get good staff. (Feel free to contact me when you have the staff). If your not glutten free, it isn't worth the wait or aggrivation. If you are glutten free try Za, I know we will.

Huge fan of Stonehearth in Belmont! I am a huge fan of receiving take out from them. They are quick (20 minutes tops on a Sunday night at 6pm) and the food is still hot when we get it home. I have sat down in house just once. While it was clean, our waittress was fast & nice, it was super loud and the tables were on top of one another. If you do decide to go in, instead of take out, I highly recommend the beer, Allagash White. It's brewed in Portland, Maine, and is the best Belgian White out there in my book. The Caesar Salad is outstanding, the dressing is unreal and on the side which is great. They are one of the few places in the Belmont area who offer Thin Wheat Crust dough and they don't disappoint. Highly suggest the Chicken Pesto pizza - unreal how good it is! Definitely worth it for take out at least.

Overrated! I tried this place because I've heard good things about it, including Best of Boston. The place is really nice inside - very clean and nicely decorated. We went around 5:30 so we beat the rush and didn't have to wait. Our waitress wasn't friendly, very to-the-point. We ordered the antipasti between the three of us and it was TINY. Not like we expect more for $6 but maybe a little more than that. They made my friend's pizza incorrectly, and rang up mine and my friend's pizzas at a larger size. She said that we would still get charged for the smaller size but we ended up being charged for the larger size. Asking for typical things such as parmesan cheese seemed like too much to ask for. The pizza was thin, which I typically like, but the toppings were so minimum it was like eating a dry cracker. Overall, I was not impressed, but maybe you will have better luck!

Cheeseburger pizza: just say yes. They also went out of their way to cook it separately from the other pizzas because I could only eat cheddar at the time (recovering lactose intolerant person) and I didn't even ask them to do that! A little pricey but the pizza was so good, I didn't even care.

Word on the street is that a Stone Hearth Pizza is coming to Needham. If that happens, it will instantly be the best pizza within fifteen minutes of my house. It may be a chain, but it's definitely a step above Bertucci's as far as I'm concerned.

We decided to try SHP after getting a groupon. All natural ingredients is great. Service is so so...no silverware or plates with the app. The stuffed meatballs had 2 shreds of cheese. We were never asked which type of crust or sauce we wanted on the pizza. Pizza was good though so I'd recommend take out.

We had an hour to kill and were looking to grab a quick bite. We happened upon Stone Hearth, and what a lovely surprise it was. The ingredients were fresh, the pizza was the most flavourful I've had in ages, with just the right amount of cheese to sauce ratio. The pizza crust is thin, but not so thin that it doesn't support the toppings. But the best part was the surprise of finding a pizza place, that actually understands that leaving the spines on romaine lettuce really kills a good caeser salard. Some of the finest restaurants don't seem to get that. So thank you Stone Hearth. And your lemon thyme dressing on the chopped salad was light and fresh, just the right balance. We will go back again and again. PS. you have to be kid tolerant here and they are, so there tends to be quick a few little ones running around if you go as early as we did - 6:00 pm

4.5 stars for: quality all the way - an ALL homemade, mostly local and organic menu. clean and green is the way to go, and these people are so on top of this! expanded menu - when it first opened it was just pizza and salads (despite my badgering for pasta as i walked by the construction site every now and then), but they've since realized Dante is coming, i think, and have added pasta, panini, soup, some app's, and a verrrry helpful 2 more sizes of 'za. also, i swear the price point is lower now. i swear we get out for less money v. when they first opened - which is really remarkable - given the quality is the same (excellent) and the selection better. great beverage selection - interesting and local when possible - beer, wine, soda, etc items that stand out are the arugula salad topped pizza, the bacon, mozz, tomato salad, the cleanest mac and cheese i've ever had (NO oil left on bottom of dish), yummy nitrate free 'roni and the $2 bargain parmesan bread. the room has good design elements - open kitchen, colors, etc, and kudos for the addition of local teen's art on the walls, which really warms things up. i'm taking 1/2 star for sometimes spotty timing and service, and a drafty, too open design. they ought to consider a hostess area 1/2 wall, some carpeting right up the middle, as well as a better way to handle the takeout crowds in back.

Since moving to Belmont Center in June, I have really enjoyed this place. Their pizza for October is with butternut squash, bacon, and goat cheese. So yummy! Also they have really good salads and decent wine by-the-glass. If you are looking for a good place to enjoy above-average pizza, I recommend it!

I like the food and the concept. But stay away on Saturday night. I called to order take out at 6:30 pm and was told that there was an hour and a half wait. I waited. But when I went to pick it up at 8 pm, they had forgotten to make my order. It was "in the system" but they had lost it. The good news: they offered to make it at no charge. The bad news: I waited another half hour and the order was wrong.

Being a fan of all things gluten free, there is no finer restaurant in the Belmont area than Stone Hearth Pizza. Their food is incredible, freshly prepared and somewhat reasonable in price. But the quality of the food is immediately reduced depending upon which night you partake their repertoire. Previous to my last visit, I decided that I needed to share with my fellow Yelpers this treasure of an eatery. Well, my enthusiasm has been diminished. Food may be fresh and wonderful but service staff sometimes leaves such a bitter taste in one's mouth that the fresh local cheeses topping their pizzas suddenly taste like dirt. So, my advice to you is to be wary of which person is managing the staff on a given night. If you come across a person who is condescending, consistently critiquing the staff below her, head across the street and spend a couple of extra bucks for a more conducive atmosphere for eating. I sympathize with a service staff that has to be subject to a present day version of Marie Antoinette. Overall service staff is pretty great. They're well versed in the menu and are very helpful in steering customers with special needs in the right direction. It's unfortunate that the rest of us don't know as much as these folks do about celiac disease, local food products used in their menu and more. Again, the atmosphere is going to depend on who's in charge. So when you walk in, check out the crew working the ovens. If they seem like frustrated folk working in the bowels of an old pirate ship, run as fast as you can. It won't be a good night at the inn.

The pizza is great, but I really love the salad wraps, especially the veggie. The staff can get overwhelmed when it's really busy, which it often is at lunch or dinner, but that's what take-out is for. Plus I like the message of sustainability.

I went to Stone Hearth when they first opened probably 3-4 years ago and thought what a welcomed addition to the 'burbs other than the usual pizza "chains". However, they have really degressed in both their quality, and quantity. My favorite used to to be the White Bean Pizza (white bean spread with carmalized onions and mozarella cheese, along with a mini spinach salad in the middle. Upon ordering this recently, I received white bean spread so thin you could see pizza crust and in diameter that was just in the center of the crust, the onion segment was "raw" red onions (yuck when I was expecting carmalized "cooked" onions) and a few spinach salad leaves. I guess the lowered the quality standard at least at this location, while they seem to be expanding elsewhere.

Good, but be careful if you order gluten free items for takeout. They are easily confused and don't know the gluten free menu very well. Only certain pies come in specific sizes (no larges) as gluten free, but they didn't explain that when we asked about the menu. They did take care of the order, and everything was fine (and gluten free), but it was frustrating trying to actually get our order...

This should really be 3.5 stars. I went with my girlfriend who has a gluten allergy. She had the pizza and she like it. I tried her pizza and the crust was really good. I had a pizza and it was good as well. The crust is thin and crispy and the pepperoni is tremedous. The place uses all local products, including local beers. Their selection is good. The prices are a bit high as a result, but it's pizza, salad, and pasta so it's not like you have to break the bank to affrod a dinner for two. I found the service to be quite well. The place only has about ten tables, but it was full and had several waiting in line for take out. The waitress was attentive and the food did not take long to arrive to our table. We got everything that we asked for. I will definitely go back again.

heck yes! i thought this place was just some stupid bertucci's wannabe for the upper middle class families of belmont. WRONG! all of their ingredients are local to new england, whenever possible. everything is fresh fresh fresh, and so tasty! the beer selection is small, but all new england brewed and delicious. this isn't corporate chain crap from bertuccis, and it isn't greasy, thick, fake-cheese House of Pizza-style, either. it is fresh made, brick oven, amazing pizza for a decent price that you can feel good about eating.

Best pizza around. Period. Fresh, consistent, innovative. They offer whole wheat dough which is delicous. Salads are always good. I am new to the area and this is the only pizza that I have found in the area that is so good. For some reason this area focuses on sub-par Greek pizza places which so far have not been impressive (Alexanders, Nicks, Gregorys). This place is great and will continue to be the best I have had in the Lexington, Belmont, Arilington area.

This place gets five stars for the food---it's really delicious, all local ingredients, and they have such creative pizza offerings. We don't eat here often because it's pricey, but when we can afford it, the food is worth every penny. However, I have to take a couple of stars off for the service. When we ate inside for lunch, the service was quite slow...but it was still better than the take-out service. Oh my. I called in our order (just two individual pizzas, nothing fancy), and they said it would take 40 minutes. 40 minutes is a long time when you're going to pick up a pizza--most places that deliver would have our food to us by then. But okay, no problem. 40 minutes later I walk in--they haven't even come close to starting our pizzas yet! I waited around for about 10 minutes before they finally told me to come back in 20 more. I didn't want to drive back home, so I waited in the car for 20 minutes, and then went back in. At that point, I saw them JUST putting our pizzas in the oven. I had to wait another 10-15 minutes inside before they were done. Now I realize that weekends are busy, but they really need to hire some more staff, since obviously they're doing a good business. Nobody should have to wait an hour and a half for a couple of take-out pizzas...especially not when they were told to pick them up in just 40 minutes! I'm sure I'll still come back here, but it will only be during off hours--late lunch or really early dinner. Their service at peak hours is so terrible that the delicious food at the end isn't even worth it.

Really good pizza, minus the oh-man-I-feel-like-a-giant-grease-ball-post-pizza-pig-out-session feeling. The crust was delicious and crisp, the ingredients were high quality and fresh, the service was friendly in spite of being obviously under-staffed, and the beer on tap was all local microbrews. Great experience and I can't wait to go back.

We love this restaurant, though we order take-out from it most of the time. Try the recipe we get every time: wheat crust, tomato sauce, sausage, prosciutto, artichoke, red peppers, and onions. Delicious! The regular tomato sauce is decently spicy (hot spicy) so just be aware. The eggplant dip and flatbread appetizer is very good, as is the gelato. The restaurant itself is pretty small, but the service is good and there is a nice ambience. Good for a casual date night, or a family night out. All ingredients are organic and local, and they provide excellent options for celiacs or people going gluten-free. Unlike most pizza, this tastes healthy and leaves you comfortably full.

  • Jack N.

WOW! This was like the smallest $12 pizza I've ever seen. It was like a regular size pizza that looked like it was 20 feet away! Also (call me old fashioned), but pizza isn't pizza unless it has some kind of sauce on it, preferably red. I took my wife there for dinner and $40 later, still hungry, I escaped to the restroom where I dialed in an order to a "real" pizza place that was on the way home. So I guess you should try this place if you like dry, overpriced dough that makes you yearn for the pizza you know and love (and will probably eat that same night because you'll still be hungry).

I find eating only pizzas for a meal a trifle boring, so I was surprised to find that Stone Hearth had a Pizza with no tomato sauce. The pizza is called the Bean Pizza and is made with a white bean paste and is served with fresh Spinach and pesto. This has become my favorite pizza to eat. I tried a marghareita Pizza which had a little more sauce than I would have liked. They serve the Pizzas both in white and wheat. I also tried the The Veggie Pizani wrap which also had no tomatoes and was very delicious. I tired the Tiramisu and did not like it very much. I would rate them one of the best Pizza restaurants in Boston.

If you're looking to count calories and eat a healthier pie, this is the place for you. Smaller portions, wheat and white dough options, all-natural ingredients... it tastes good and it's almost refreshing. Just keep in mind its gourmet. If you're looking to feed a hunger, this is not the place for you. I'd consider their large pizza a snack. It's only four slices, thin crust and less filling than something you'd get from your grocer's freezer. I needed to order two appetizers to feel like I had dinner. If I return it would be for lunch or a light meal.

Overall, solid pizza restaurant. Their pizza is very fresh tasting, a positive in todays world of pizza. Their menu is somewhat limited, which is a disappointment. On the other hand, some of their salads are very satisfying.

    (4)
  • Aubrey E.

Service was slow and moderately incompetent (although not mean, like some other reviewers experienced). The courses were not paced properly with the pizza arriving 3 minutes after the salad. They seemed to be understaffed. I had high hopes about the meal after looking at the menu online, but it was disappointing. I made the mistake of ordering pesto dressing for my salad and it was vile. I'll take the blame, since I could have selected something else. I thought it would be more like an actual salad dressing, but it was just gobs of pesto plopped on the salad. I will not be going back.

Stone Hearth is a chain, I have been to Belmont and Sudbury. It is OK, not great pizza. The atmosphere, Hey did you hear about the restaurant on the moon? Great food but no atmosphere. Seriously folks I'll be here all week. Similar to Bertuccis in quality. We'll see if they slide as time goes on. A good place to try. The Star Bucks of the pizza industry.

well we just received our food 3 mini meatballs - for 5 dollars mediocre at best there is cheese in the middle - if they were a buck... no problem we ordered a large, white crust pizza with pepperoni, carmelized onion with fresh mozzarella - it's really bad - i mean awful - never again the crust is soggy - its unforgivable to me in this day and age to have a soggy crust pizza as well as flavorless!! they guy who answered the phone and took the order was a real nice guy who should probably look for another job real quick - so they get a star for service, a star for local ingredients - BUT they lose a star for wasting such good ingredients in this fashion.. too bad - maybe take some tips from Za or cut their prices by 1/2

  • Cecilia B.

Ordered take out, which they claimed would be ready in 15 minutes (which seems super quick for freshly made!). The boys enjoyed their sausage with carmelized onions, and others liked the farm fresh (although the "salad" in a cup was not as good as ordering in) and peperonata. The drawback was a "design your own" with no cheese (for the vegan). The toppings were fine, but the tomato sauce was about a tablespoon for the 12 inch pizza - meaning lots of dry crust which was not very appealing or tasty. For the price, there could have been a covering of sauce!!
