We've been dining at Grassfields/Jimmys locations off and on for a few years. When my husband and I were dating, we would eat here often, so much so that I bored of the menu... it seems to never change, which is my only complaint. We recently returned for lunch and I'm really glad we did! I forgot how much I enjoy their sea food, I don't cook it at home because my husband wont eat it, so it was a nice treat to go out for something different. Since we returned, I've had the lobster pie (part of the 'surf & turf') for dinner, and the fish and chips for lunch - both were nice and fresh. Prices are great, parking is easy (who doesn't love easy & free parking??) , and service is normally attentive and quick. When were in the area, we'll be back.

Grassfields is one of my grandmother's favorite restaurants, so I've been there quite a few times. But... I've never really enjoyed it. I'll give them a couple stars because their service is always friendly, but the food is never cooked the way you ask. It's either far to rare or extremely overcooked.

When I went there the first time the para medics just rolled out an elderly person with an O2 mask. They used to have good food but the last two times I've been there the food didn't taste that good anymore. The waiter staff is always super friendly. Hosts not so much.

lunch recently on a rainy day....we got there just after 12 and it was full!!!!! attractive place and very busy, when we left there was a waiting line in the bar....food was very reasonably priced (we were really surprise) and very good. drinks were very good and nicely presented, calamari was ok, scallop salad was very good and chicken parm excellent and very generous, very impressed and the prices really were very reasonable....

I had lunch here. I ordered the grassfields burger. It was very greasy and over cooked. Considering it was 11:00 I thought the services was a little slow.

I think that Grassfields is solid. I have never been overwhelmed by an offering, but I have never been served a bad meal. The offerings have pretty much remained the same during its existence. I've found that the place is an especially loved place for the senior crowd, as well as the value conscious. I'd like to give it 3 1/2 stars, but I will round it up due to the service, which has always been strong. Solid place with solid chow.

My favorite resteraunt in the whole world, i've traveled the world and havent found a better chicken terryaki dish. The prices are unbeatable at this place and I make it a point to stop in when I'm back home.

Not that I have anything against old folks. I live next to a nursing home so I see it all the time, but jeez I thought I was at a geriatric convention today at lunch. We had a work lunch meeting. Everyone was at least twice if not three times my age (I'm 31). I ordered the scallops and steak tips with a baked potato for the unbelievable price of $10. Yup. $10. $2 to add a salad. The tips were fantastic, cooked perfectly. Scallops were delicious as well. Salad had a good mix of greens. A few others got chicken teriyaki that was moist and flavorful and the rice pilaf was buttery and yummy too. Great value. Good people watching too. I love old timers who order a martini with lunch. Live it up! I wish I had a cocktail with my lunch, but alas it was a work thing. Good, not great. Great place to bring your grandparents too.

I love Grassfield's. I have never had a bad meal. I have been coming here for over 20 years. The rice pilaf and baked stuffed shrimp or scallops are my favorite. I always order a side of veggies. The service is great, which is good since they do not take reservations. I have to say I love all the specialty drinks they have here. I have a yummy Blue Margarita last time I was, it was huge, happy I had a friend with me to be my DD.

We have been going there for years. Great food, great service and great atmosphere. The scrod, steak and scallops are our favorites. The rice pilaf is fantastic.

Great food, great quality and great price! Surf and Turf 16.99! Are you kidding me!?! I had the lobster pie and steak tips. Both were Cooked perfectly and had unbelievable flavor. I got a baked potato loaded as my side. Portions were quite large. We started with the zucchini sticks as an app and my Dad added a salad which was only 2.49 with an entree. Their salad dressings are homemade and quite flavorful. Great chicken parm! They also have nice selection of beers called Wicked Brews! Something for everyone and I also took a look at their lunch menu which had several inexpensive specials.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE GRASSFIELD'S. I've been going here since I was in elementary school. I went from ordering medium-cooked burgers to marinated steak tips, with the rice pilaf on the side as ALWAYS. If I were at the restaurant during the E.Coli scare, I would get the rice pilaf anyway because it's just that good. I love the atmosphere... although it's a bit dark. But according to my cousin, restaurants are dark because they make people hungrier? Yeah, I'm always hungry so I can't really see or feel the difference. There's a lot of old people and families, but I don't mind. I haven't been here in a while. I think I'm going to go back during winter break. I want some of their crab or lobster pie and fried zucchini. Both are delicious.

Great place for lunch or dinner. I love their steak tips and signature rice pilaf. Nice atmosphere. Older business crowd. Great meal!

Average food with very good service. Been there many times. It is comfortable. The food is predictable.

The place feels like the Ground Round. My filet mignon was raw-I asked for medium. I had to send it back, which I hate doing. They compensate for being sub par by giving you too much of stuff you don't want. Our waitress was very nice and professional. Otherwise, really disappointing. I expected more based on the reviews here.

My family has been coming to Grassfields for as long as I can remember. I always get and always love the steak tips with scallops...SO yummy! The steak tips are always cooked to your preferred perfection and those scallops are one of a kind. I usually find the texture of scallops a little chewy for me but the way in which they are prepared at Grassfields makes them taste like candy!

  • Joj o.

This place is alright. Old people seem to love it, as that's the only kind of people I see in there. Nothing special about it, but nothing bad to say either.

Grassfields is one of those fall back places. I don't like chains and I think Grassfields is a chain in disguise. There is at least one other location in Waltham & they are an older version of Jimmy's Steer House (while the food is somewhat the same Jimmy's gets one more star from me. The food here is between a chain restaurant & a good family owned restaurant (much closer to the later). Get there to early & the crowd is a bit old. While clean enough, it is in need of a slight make over & has wayyyy to much plastic greenery & fake flowers. Strange location too, kinda in the corner of a old shopping mall. (houses the smallest Market Basket I've ever seen). Don't get me wrong, this place in a money maker & the foods not bad. I like the baked shrimp & the steaks are always good. Decent bar as well.

  • Mark M.

While visiting friends and family in and around Andover, my good friend Patrick took me here. Way back, this location was a deli, but now they are Grassfield's, a full service restaurant. The food is good and the service was great. Due to some jet lag, I wasn't very hungry, but felt I should eat something to start feeling "normal". I had the steak tips, which were excellent. If I lived back there, I'd be a Grassfield's regular.

  • Chuck D.

I have always been a Jimmy's on the Mall fan since back when I was young at the Burlington Mall and even though that closed down years ago this is the same restaurant with the Grassfields tag on it. You might say 5 stars and be shocked but seriously. This is the best "Bang for you Buck" restaurant in New England. I always go for lunch when home from Los Angeles and have baked stuffed shrimp and the legendary spinach with rice for $8.99...Yes $8.99 you tell me where you can find that quality at those prices. This place gets a 98/100!!

    (5)
  • Marie B.

The food is ALWAYS good. I love the atmosphere. The staff is always very pleasant and accomodating. It can get a little crowded, but that is simply telling us that the food is awesome. they have the basics as far as chicken, steak, fish, but I have also had some awesome Italian food there too. Check out their appetizers!

I agree with the last reviewer - I have been going to Grassfields my whole life and I love it, even now that I live closer to Boston, have travelled the world and eat at such a variety of places - I am still so happy to come here with my parents and get the most amazing steak tips! Prices are good, chicken terriyaki, salmon, lamb and steak tips are amazing, and the usually have a good rotation of specials and special, seasonal martinis and blended drinks. But honestly, the steak tips are to die for, and I'm a pretty hard-core carnivore. The atmosphere is nice but unpretentious, the waitstaff is always helpful and friendly. (rice pilaf also rocks)

  • H P.

The swordfish special last night was excellent! It could be ordered as lemon pepper, cajun, or breaded with a remoullade. I ordered the lemon pepper swordfish with their delicious rice pilaf. My meal was perfect. The garden salad was fresh and my martini was perfect. Our waitress was attentive and pleasant. I'm sorry I didn't get her name. My husband got the rack of lamb. He did send it back because it was raw..They cooked it more and it was then to his liking. Although that was a flaw we can always count on good food here at a fair price.

    (5)
  • Ashley B.

I have been going to Grassfields I think since it opened and it's always good and always consistent. I always try and talk myself into getting something new, but I always get their crab meat pie with a side of rice pilaf. However, the scallops and steak tips are so good. My mother raves about the rack of lamb. You never know who you will see in there, families, young couples, blue hairs, old boyfriends. Just part of the charm!

I came here twice, only because my boyfriend's mom loves this place. A word of warning, I didn't grow up on American food, and much of my experience of eating said "American" cuisine has been since college. That being said, Grassfields is so completely average; like Lance S. said, "it's not bad, it's just not great." It's like eating any generic family restaurant, like an Olive Garden for American food.

    (2)
  • Amy H.

I disagree with the gentleman who reviewed Grassfields first! This is a family favorite. We've been dining here since I was a teenager and we've NEVER had a bad meal. The service is excellent, the drinks are terrific and the food is scrumptious. Their haddock, steak, scallops, and shrimp are all excellent. Not to mention...their delicious salads and side dishes. Definitely a winner...especially for a family dinner!

  • Jane H.

When my family lived in Andover, I loved coming here for family dinners every once and a while. Its a nice family restaurant. The food is not spectacular or creative but its consistently good (something that I cannot say about most restaurants). Its a good place to take out of town guests if you don't want to head into Boston or if you don't want to go to Cassis. I would recommend coming here any day over going to Sweet Basil (which is in the same plaza).

Nothing fancy here, but pleasant atmosphere plus good food and friendly service at a very reasonable price. Lunch is exceptionally affordable.

a little bit of a strange place bc of all the old people dining there! located in a shopping plaza, which is ofetn a bad sign, but sumtimes you can be surprised! thius place is middle of road in all respects. we only went there bc we sumtimes attend the wine tatsing at the liquor store there in the same plaza, and needed a quick place to eat bc 1. we were hungry and 2. we were a bit drunk from the wine tasting & needed to hang out for a while before driving. i walked in & saw tons of old people- one was so old- he actually had some kind of mechanical device attached to his arm that helped raise the food to his mouth!- haha- thats not true, but it would be funny if it was! point is- mid-range food for the price, but too many old people- the place even smells like old people a little bit! we had a scallop dish that was decent, and we had some calamari which was decent too. we had other things, but i just cant remember them bc simply- they werent memorable- OR- maybe IM getting old!?- aghhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Lance S.

Looks and smells like it has been here since the mid-70's. Food is tried and true New England, atmosphere is mainstream and filled with a more senior crowd and the family's that take them there. It's not bad, it's just not great. When you want the basics at a good price, this can work. I still think it should be torn down and replaced with a really good Mexican restaurant - would be a license to print money with all the upper-middle class folks around here looking for a good place to eat, IMHO.

  • Jen B.

I ate here today. The atmosphere is a typical family style. The ages were varied (I had lunch) an older crowd and families but again this was 2pm on a Sunday. For an appetizer we had the stuffed mushrooms which came in a dish with four gigantic mushrooms stuffed with crabmeat stuffing with cheese on top. The sauce on the mushrooms was fantastic. I'd have to say the best stuffed mushrooms I have had to date. As far as the meal is concerned I had the Veal Saltemboca and my friend had the Crab Cassarole. My dish I enjoyed a lot the sauce was excellent and they gave you a fairly large piece of veal. My friends crab dish although I did not taste she told me she gets it everytime she goes there. The cassrole was filled with huge chunks of crab and looked delish. The fact that she gets it everytime she goes practically speaks for itself. After reading about their drinks I got a specality margerita which was served in a huge martini style glass. It was enormous and tasty. The service was ok nothing spectacular again it could have been the time of day. Will definately be back, as I have not tried the baked stuffed shrimp and I hear they are fantastic.

These guys are sharp. Enter the dinning room mid week at lunch and if you are under 70 you are now the youngest person in the room. On a Wednesday afternoon this place was packed. How do they do it? 1. Price, price, price. Give them a good deal and they will come. But it is not price alone. 2. Service is excellent. This must be a tough crowd because our waitress apologized for the slowness of our meal. The timing seemed fine to me but I guess she is used to a more demanding clientele. 3. Food is very good. They bring you a large loaf of hot bread which I would advise you go easy on it. Portions are generous but good. My steak tips were excellent as was their rice pilaf. 4. The atmosphere is comfortable, access is good and parking is plentiful. This was a perfect place to take my mother to lunch. Did I mention I was the youngest person in the room outside of the staff? Under 70...you are a kid here.

Best steak around and for a very reasonable price! Once we found this place, we keep going back.

  • Joe J.

Beer is cold. Service is very good. Staff is attentive and we had multiple inquiries as to how we were doing. The food is above average. Strip steak was cooked as ordered, medium rare. Very lively bar area, with 4 larger screen tv's showing sports events. Some older customers and younger ones as well. Who cares anyway. It's a solid place to eat!

  • Ashley M.

JUST AWFUL the management was a pregnant lady and was talking about our table and didn't realize I was right behind her. Our food came out completely wrong our steaks came out bleeding asked for med well. Waitress was rude. NEVER EVER coming back again. Oh and don't come here if you have kids apparently you are frowned upon for that!!! After I reviewed on here. The Manager did reach out to me her name was Debbie and she was so great she felt awful about this bad experience and she comped the whole meal and also went beyond and is sending out gift cards to give them another try. I am very pleased and happy with how they handled this, it shows they really care about their customers

  • Paul S.

this place is rather interesting/amusing. I was probably the youngest customer by about 3 to 4 decades.... but the food was above average and the service was great. I went with the house specialty - steak tips with mixed veggies. the burgers looked great as well. the prices here are fantastic, it's like they haven't updated prices in 20 years. so to recap, good food and great prices and just don't expect too much ambiance & you'll be fine.

    (4)
  • Barb S.

Ate at Grassfields tonight. Inexpensive with fair food. Issue is with cleanliness! Our waitress cleaned off our table with her bare hand! We watched another server vacuum around a table where people were eating! Health Officer take notice!

  • MacKenzie D.

This place is alright. The decor is very aged. The food isn't bad, but also nothing I would rave about. The portions are huge, and I am always getting a to-go box. The price is reasonable, especially with the sizes/portions you are getting. I get the vermont goat cheese and spinach salad, sometimes the spinach is wilted and looks like its been sitting out for awhile. The chicken is definitely juicy and seasoned well! The chicken piccatta is good, and again, HUGE... Crabmeat pie is decadent, and tasty.. The best part- the loaf of bread they give you in the beginning! I COULD LIVE OFF OF IT. So delicious, soft on the inside, crispy and buttery on the outside.

  • Merton F.

Nice little place. Was in town for work and had stopped in for the planet fitness. After the gym was ready to eat saw this place and went for it. Hat the teriyaki beef tips and lobster pie. The lobster pie was very good. The winner here is the tips. Oh my god these damn things were freakin amazing. I will be coming back for sure.

  • Lada L.

If you are a foodie, this is not the place for you. Food was boring. Flavors were boring. I felt like I can get that type of food anywhere. Drinks on the other hand, was a different story. I've never seen a martini glass so big! Atmosphere was nice. The dinning area was beautiful. Staff was friendly.

Food here is delicious!!! We come here for team work lunches and I have never had a bad experience. The price is affordable and service is always excellent!

Some musings on Grassfields: I used to go here all the time in high school with my Dad and we called it Grass Stains... I think the average age of patrons hovers in the AARP range... I had a totally edible hamburger here recently and our bartender was incredibly nice... My friend swears by their rice pilaf side dish- which was, in fact, super tasty... This seems to be about one of two places near downtown Andover where you can watch football at the bar AND order food that doesn't come out of a vending machine... I wouldn't go there again on purpose but I wouldn't not go there, if you know what I mean.

My boyfriend loves to eat at high-end restaurants so I have had the pleasure of eating a lot of amazing, delicious, extravagant meals. Grassfields is not high-end. It is reputable for catering to older customers, I am 30 years old. That being said: If I was going to be put to death, I would choose my last meal as follows: Grassfields starter salad with the house dressing (a vinaigrette that is not too sweet and perfectly tangy), their steak teriyaki and baked stuffed shrimp combo (my mouth waters just thinking of it), with a side of their amazing rice pilaf (YUM, cannot be beat) followed by their Avalanche sundae for dessert - which is scoops of vanilla ice cream, smothered in caramel and topped with honey roasted pecans (So simple, but amazingly satisfying) The first time I ever had this meal was at Jimmy's Steerhouse in Arlington (their sister-restaurant) and I have been getting it ever-since! I can't vouch for anything else on the menu because this is my absolute favorite meal of all time and I wouldn't dream of ordering anything else, but everyone that I have brought to Grassfields was impressed! They also have great margaritas and martinis!

    (4)
  • Ryan T.

For the price you can't beat this places. It's defiantly nice enough to bring your boss. He'll be impressed. Don't let him/her see how little you paid.

My favorite place for drinks and dinner, you could never go wrong here food and price wise. I get the steak and shrimp. By far the best and service is always great.

Damn I forgot how good the steak tips are here. Soooo good. As is the rice pilaf, bread, and really everything else at grass fields! Go now.

This restaurant is 5 star! From the appetizers to the desert. You will enjoy the food. Obviously they will be busy from time to time. Pick your day and your seat, the rest is in good hands. Bon appetite!!!

I have eaten here on and off for over 10 years This past year or so the cooking has changed a bit and isn't on par with 5 years ago but not bad

  • Dina D.

My boyfriend and I eat here often. We love Mike the bartender. He knows us by name and knows what we drink. The food has always been hot to arrive, fresh and delicious. We do live in town and this is a regular favorite of ours. The favorites we love are the tips, salmon and baked surf and Turf with scallops. My boyfriend loves the veal and chicken Parmesan combo. Great portions. The bread is warm to arrive with butter! The prices are reasonable never leave hungry. Definitely a good eat. Don't forget to try the rice pilaf it's delicious.

Grassfield Steak and Seafood provided an excellent culinary experience at a very reasonable price! My wife and I mad our annual trip to the area to attend a Patriots game and found this spot through Yelp! We had to wait about 40 minutes for a table but found it was well worth the wait. Sara, our waitress was quite attentive and helpful. We started with the fried calamari appetizer and found it to be crispy, well seasoned and quite tasty. My wife had the Salmon Royale and raved over the preparation. Well seasoned and moist. I had the Lobster pie and sirloin tips. The chef did a fantastic job on the grill as the tips were perfect. The lobster pie was well done, with a nice portion of lobster meat. Excellent meal, nice quantity and reasonably priced!

Grassfield's is the kind of place that has a line out the door at 5:30 on Saturdays. Not because the place is in such high demand but because the average customer goes to bed at 8pm. In other words - they're old. All kidding aside, Grassfield's is actually pretty good. I'd really like to fault it for some level of mediocrity, or poorly executed trendy apps, or having some kind of old person 'mashed up food' menu. They really have none of that. The food is tasty and really well priced. The range is great. We've been happy with the entrees, salads and desserts. The service has been friendly and overall stellar. I recommend Grassfield's for a nice family option, a night (ahem, late afternoon) out on the town with Grandma, and even date night. Pass

  • Leo Z.

I only can comment on the salads, two of us each ordered one & we were very happy with what we ordered. They bring a small loaf of bread which is nice; so many places have done away with these niceties. Our waitress did the "upsell" asking if we wanted Margaritas (at 1:30 on a Saturday? geez, I just got up!) and pushed the sides, thankfully she wasn't a pest about it. She actually turned out to be very attentive. It is an older crowd but that's a good thing, the mature crowd knows where the food is reasonable! I'll be back..

Had a wonderful experience , started with some specialty drinks and an appetizer. Then we were able to get a small salad which was a plus since we were getting large meals. Our meals came and they were excellent! sirloin steak and a lobster pie w/ Filet. Service was also outstanding.

  • Ashley L.

they do not have the lunch menu on sundays, but wen i went I didnt even realize it was the dinner menu with all the amazing prices!! i got stuffed shrimp, broiled scrodd and a loaded mashed potato for $16 - anywhere else this would be $20+. my boyfriend got salmon in some delicious sauce and was topped with lobster! I had to stop myself from eating off his plate too! the spinach and artichoke dip was fresh and yummy! i liked the chips too, nice and crunchy.. i wonder if they make them in-house..also they give you complimentary bread (a tradition slowly going out the door these days) and it was warm and ugh so yummy! i also got sangria, which was not listed on the wine menu, and i was not disappointed. cant wait to go back - i later checked out their lunch menu and they have steak tips and scallops and a side for $13!

My wife and kids stopped in here 4 years ago and we are still coming back! The coconut shrimp is the best you will ever have! I get the surf and turf with the crab pie and it makes my. Ouch water just thinking about it the rice the steak tip the list goes on! Stop in and you will see what we are talking about.

The food was ok. I ordered a Strip Steak. Traditionally Strip Steak is supposed to be leaner, but I probably sliced about a quarter of this cut off as fat. I asked for it to me medium, but it was much closer to medium rare (I don't mind that, but it wasn't what I asked for). The vegetables were practically glazed in oil/butter. Mixed vegetables as a substitution for starch is typically due to dietary constraints. Adding the extra salts and fats to it isn't helping. The service was what killed me. The waitress was nice enough, but she was a bit gabby with customers and staff, thus falling behind quite a bit. As I was staring around waiting for the check, I noticed most of her tables doing the same thing. Not the best first impression, but I'd probably go back at least one more time if the opportunity presented itself.

My wife and I went there for lunch today. It was pretty crowded, with a 25 minute wait, so we sat at the bar. We had the spinach and artichoke appetizer, which was okay, not great (the chips were kind of stale). We wanted to split the fish and chips, but were told they were out. We were told "maybe" we could get a fish sandwich, which was the same thing but smaller. What? A fish place out of fried fish? Or the at least the luncheon fried fish size? We have lived in Andover for 23 years and used to go to Grassfield's all the time. Now we go once a year and are reminded why we stopped going.

  • Mallory T.

Yummy! Their green apple martini with caramel rim was fantastic! They give a small load of bread to start which was very good. We had the calamari as an appetizer which was good but had a bit too much breading. Loved that they had two sauces with it though. I had the stuffed chocked which was good, French fries were great. The portion was good, not enough for leftovers but satisfying. The brownie sundae was good, no real complaints. Our waitress was very nice and service was prompt. I recommend.

I just don't like their food. It tastes right outta the microwave and very heavy and buttery.

Was up visiting Andover during Neptune. Grasslands was open. Ordered a burger. It was fantastic! I'm sure the other things on the menu were good, but won't be disappointed with this.

wasn't a bad place years ago. Just picked up takeout and took 30 min, that's ok because it was busy but the girl up front gave my wife a Bad look when she said her order was wrong. slip said the correct order but wasn't. so they brought back our order, still wrong. also looked like they rushed it because food wasn't cooked, fries were white still..2nd time in a month the got out order wrong.

I'd actually give it a 3.5 stars if 1/2 stars were allowed. Stopped here after picking up a car at a local dealership. The main course was good - I had the lobster casserole & Steak tips; My husband had the Filet. For dessert (which is my favorite course) we ordered the strawberry shortcake. I happen to LOVE strawberry shortcake, but this definitely fell way short (pun intended). The shortcake was 'Meh', the strawberries were frozen and tasteless. It was served with vanilla ice cream vs. whipped cream as the waitress said it was from a can when asked. Overall, I would recommend for a decent meal.

Been coming here periodically for 25 years. The chicken teriyaki and "Grassfield's rice pilaf" are always exceptional. Good seafood and steaks too. It's less glitzy or trendy than Burton's, but always a "go-to" spot for consistently great food, with reasonable wait. While it's true they have more seniors than some other places (perhaps due to fair prices and consistently excellent food???), they DO serves a wide age range....families with kids, and yes-a few who go there on dates. The wine list is decent, the bar mixes great margaritas too. The warm bread loaf, and excellent house salad add-on for $2.99 are examples of why this place deserves 5 stars!

The chicken teriyaki was as tender and juicy and flavorful as any chicken I have ever tasted and the portion so big that I could barely eat half. The bun for the burger took away from the impressive flavor of the meat, but all in all it was decent. The seafood (with the possible exception of the calamari) tasted fresh and high quality. The scallops practically melted in the mouth, and the scrod was flaky and pleasant. The only issue with the seafood would be the lack of seasonings. I ended up having to add salt to the scallops because they were so terribly bland. However, that was a small matter because of the nice quality of the fishes and meats. The side dishes were alright. The rice was very good two of the times tried, though the third time was so bland that it tasted like white steamed rice. However, the other times it was tried, it was very good. The French fries were well seasoned, and the baked potato fresh and tender. The deserts tried were strawberry Shortcake, cheesecake, and brownie with ice cream. Here there were mixed results as well. The strawberry shortcake was hard and stale, not at all what one would hope from such a desert. The cheesecake was thick and creamy, good with or without strawberries. The brownie with ice cream was pleasant, and very fudgy. The only surprising thing here was that they did not make their own ice cream and instead used a brand name. The experiences at this restaurant were more pleasant than not. If they fix their mishaps in the kitchen, they could be one of the best places in the area to come for lunch (their dinner is in some cases almost twice the price for the same food so I would not go in the evening personally). It is somewhat surprising to me that there are not more young people frequenting this place, though I suspect it is because they work during the day and cannot easily afford to go at night except for a special occasion. Because of the lack of consistency in the kitchen I rate this a 6.8-10. It is a place worth going to, though it has room for improvements.

The wait was well worth it. I enjoyed my eggplant and chicken parmigiana, great sauce and not greasy. Even the salad dressing was excellent. Waited almost 40 minutes ( told it would be 20), but glad we waited. Excellent service as well

Your typical American style food that is just another excuse not to fall back to the 99 or Denny's. This is a favorite--amongst the geriatrics. It seems like all day is an early bird special, watch out for tip calculators and long division...these elders ain't no joke. Food is decent, but I only associate it with the weekly field trips the residents took at the assisted living home I used to work in. God they loved Thursday lunch trips. "Sorry Mary, the bus is full." *DUCKS BEHIND RECEPTION DESK TO AVOID CANE ATTACK*

I have been a few times and the food is always consistently good. I had the glazed salmon and my friend had the scallops and steak combo. It was great and the service was phenomenal. It was nice to go out on a tuesday night at 7 and still have it be fairly quiet even though they were pretty busy. I will be back...

We had a nice meal at Grassfields in Andover. The food was very good and the prices were reasonable. The place seemed fairly busy upon arrival on a warm Tuesday evening and we were seated expediently with no wait. My friend and I decided to skip appetizers and ordered our dinners with salad (add $2.49 -we shared).. The salad was fresh which had chopped romaine lettuce with sliced plum tomatoes, cucumbers, and carrots. The raspberry vinaigrette dressing was tangy. The warm loaf of sliced bread with butter was pretty good. For dinner, we enjoyed the Lobster Pie & Teriyaki Tips ($16.99) with rice pilaf and the 12 oz Sirloin Steak with Brown Gravy ($14.99) with rice pilaf. The steaks were tender and moist inside, cooked to our liking. The brown gravy was enjoyable for dipping the cut steak. The lobster pie (small size dish) was pretty good topped with crushed Ritz crackers crumbs. The rice pilaf was a very good side choice which had a nice chicken flavor with a soft texture and spinach in the mix as well. Finally, we shared the Grassfield's Avalanche ($5.49) was a very sweet cold dessert, which had soft vanilla ice cream, caramel, pecans, and topped with whipped cream. The total check with 2 drinks (Diet Pepsi & coffee) came out to under $49 before tip. The service here was very good and prompt, as we received our food in timely order. We were also given free refills on the Diet Pepsi and coffee, which was much appreciated. Grassfields was solid on our weeknight dinner visit and we would definitely return again for dinner.

Couldn't have asked for a better lunch. From start to finish our meal was perfect. Lunch menu is very reasonable and the quantity and quality of the food was excellent. My mother had the broiled scallops and they were very tasty. I had surf and turf, and again wonderful. This place is known for it's food and service, and I now know why. It was rather busy, right up to when we left after 3:30, but lots of help, serving and cleaning, and our waitress was very efficient and friendly. We were impressed all around and will be back soon.

I did not have a great experience here. The food was below average. The service was decent. But the atmosphere was just awkward. The staff would not stop cleaning everywhere around us. They vacuumed 4 times while our family sat and tried to have a nice birthday dinner. Not good. I wish I could say the food was worth the price, since their prices are really reasonable. But the quality is just not there. Have a nice meal elsewhere.

Grassfield's is a family favorite of ours, with two young teens. The quality of the food is good -- consistent from visit to visit. They make a great mixed drink. The prices are reasonable. And the wait staff is accommodating. We even go there for take-out when we don't feel like cooking. It's the perfect local place for lunch or dinner. Simple. Quiet. Comfortable. And sure, as the other reviewers note, it's popular with the "older set." But what's wrong with that? Seniors like good food too!!

I know it is an over used joke to say the average age of the clients at Grassfield's is some where around 80 but this Sunday there was little hair that was not grey. My wife and I are 60 and we were seated in the kids section along with the other over 40 under 80 folks. Ok on to the food and service. Our server was a little slow but nothing to stomp your feet over, she seemed a little busy probably all the special request like I left my teeth at home could you chop my steak, etc. All the food arrived hot so she wasn't dawdling I think the kitchen and bar were a little backed up. My wife had the stuffed cod it has their stuffing that they use on all of their seafood. It has a little green/red pepper in it which is ok for a while but it seems to me to take over the whole dish. She likes it so ok success in my book. On to my meal rib eye steak with caramelized onions and portobello mushrooms. The concept was good but it was tasteless I think it was totally under seasoned (uh oh I am trying to hold back on an age related comment guess I failed). I added some salt but that didn't seem to help. The caramelized onions were so tasteless you didn't know they existed. It would of been nice if the mushrooms had a pan sear rather then seemingly boiled. The French fries were ok but they are different then what they used to be, used to have a slight starchy crust to them, they were excellent, now they are cut with the skins on (hey the 80s are calling for that concept back) ok but not as good. Ok one meal does not a restaurant make, this is one of my wife's favorite places, but I usually stare at the menu hoping they added something different it just seems plain to me. So all in all this is sort of a 3 1/2 star place mostly decent food, decent service, reasonable prices.

I had a salad and my dad had a chicken Parmesan, both off the lunch menu. The food was pretty well done, it had a decent ambiance, and the prices were incredible. I'll definitely be going back. The value is unbeatable.

I've given this place a few chances and it hasn't won me over. I keep going back because I do think the customer service is above average. I have always had good experiences with the waitstaff and bartenders. The first time I went the food was, well, mushy and flavorless. The second time I went and ordered the "Stuffed Turkey Burger" - I walked away a bit confused....not only was it not stuffed with anything (it was topped with wilted lettuce and not ripe tomatoes) but it was also just a FROZEN turkey patty...disappointing. The most recent time I visited, my boyfriend and I both ordered the salmon...which came to us undercooked and left us feeling sick for the next day or so. This place would benefit from a visit from Chef Ramsey on "Kitchen Nightmares" - they have the customer service piece down but the food is seriously lacking.

I would have given a 3.5 if I could. That being said, the atmosphere is fine. It is typically frequented by "older" folks. The food is fine also. The steak isnt exceptional or poor either. Its a nice steak. The salad is a bit better than middle of the road. Romaine instead of iceberg lettuce. A couple of veggies thrown in there as well. The wait service is fantastic. I've never met a nicer bunch of people who check up on you the perfect amount of times. They have a full bar and a nice little area to chill and grab a drink or food if its just the two of you or running solo. I must say also, that even when its busy, I always get sat pretty quick and sooner than the expected time. The prices were very fair and I would certainly go back. I wouldnt bring a date here, but I would go with friends or parents.

Being in a strip mall, I was dubious...really, a restaurant in a strip mall??? We had a drink and appetizer (stuffed mushrooms), late in the afternoon, which were ok but not fabulous. Hubby wanted to come back for dinner, since it was close to our hotel...AMAZING!! I had the Salmon Royalle, a salmon fillet with lobster, shrimp, and scallops in a cream sauce, and hubby had steak and crab pie. Everything was cooked to perfection. We both agreed it was a fantastic meal. A little spendy, but, well worth the price. Too bad it's so hard to find...even with our nav, we drove past it a couple times, but well worth it when we finally did!

Grassfields has renovated their restaurant and bar area, adding more booths and updating the look. Still have the same great food and have added a few new items to the menu. Had the lobster pie and steak tips recently and it was DELICIOUS! Straight up good food at a great price. Still going strong!

The marinated steak tips are fantastic. What they soak these babies in make them just taste sooo good. They have a Surf and Turf section on the menu that you can pair up anything you want. I got the tips with the Baked stuffed shrimp and I was not disappointed. You have to get the rice pilaf, it has some spinach mixed in and it is out of this world. No wonder this place has lasted through the years. Side salad for $2.95 can't beat it.

I have to be honest, I USE to LOVE eating out at Grassfields but I have to agree with another poster in that it's not the place I use to know and love. I have been wanting to post about a situation that has happened and I feel compelled to let other people know how "grassfields" handles special needs patrons. What your about to read it disturbing or at least to me it is. I had gone for lunch with my husband, daughter and son and my elderly parents. ~BUT before I get into detail I have to state that on our way to Grassfields we had stopped at BK for my son is an extremely picky eater and picked him up some chicken fries and he could sit and eat them at the table when we get there. OK so back to the story well we had just finished placing the orders for 4 adults and 1 child minus my son he had BK and noticed after our waitress took our orders she apparently had something to the Manager that we had brought BK in for my 4 yrs old son. ~will get back to that in a bit. Anyway across from us their happen to be an elderly couple with their special needs adult daughter and the waitress (same) was taking their orders ( I happen to over hear the conversation ) the elderly couple apparently wanted to order a childs meal for their special needs adult daughter. I heard the waitress say to the elder couple that they in fact were NOT allowed to order their adult disabled special needs daughter a child's meal!!!! I WAS LIKE WHAT! So the elder women was pleading basically with the waitress and the waitress kept telling her NO that she has to order from and adult menu. So the elder women had asked the waitress for the manager. The manager had come over and the elderly couple stated and pleaded that their daughter can not simply finish and adult meal and where ever they go they always order her a child's meal. WELL the manager wanted nothing to do with their ultimate plea and said to the elderly couple that she is NOT considered a child and would need to order from the adult menu she would NOT accommodate this elderly couple!!!! WOW I was in complete shock it really left a bad taste in my mouth, I was really upset and wanted to say something and now I am still kicking myself for not sticking up for this elderly couple. OK back to my beef after that whole ordeal with the elderly couple, the manager had come over to my table and say's that Bk food is not allowed, if your son wants to eat that he has to go outside! OK so NOW I am really angry and my anger has shifted. The manager say's your son can order from the kids menu. I said to the manager he doesn't like what is on your menu so I thought this would be ok. She said NO he has to eat that outside! So I got up complained to the waitress and left with my son to the car so that he could eat his lunch. Ever since then I left Grassfields with one thought....NEVER going back! I had told this to as many people as I could. The way they had treated the elderly couple was so uncalled for, not right not right at all and very discriminating and disturbing and disappointing. SHAME on you Grassfields. OH and for the record the foods is just par now, the steak tips use to be juicy and full of flavor. The flavor is still their BUT the over all quality of the steak tips are JUST AWEFUL!!!! full of fat pieces!! The chicken teriyaki was my favorite and I do miss it, but enough to get me back there!

We went the other night with my parents. It was only a 10 minute wait which was great. We ordered our drinks and they came back fairly quickly. Our waitress pushed the appetizers a little too much even though we didn't want any. She took our order and tried to push a side salad that didn't come with the dinner, but of course didn't mention it was extra. Our dinner did come pretty quickly. The steak tips were really yummy but it seemed strange they don't do mashed potatoes. My husband said his stuffed shrimp were great as well. My dad had broiled scallops and my mom had some kind of steak. They both enjoyed them. Then dessert came and of course our waitress pushed dessert. I understand wanting to get a big tip but being so abrasive and pushy is a huge turn off. I would go back for the food but want a different waitress for sure.

We had a nice meal at Grassfields in Andover. I had the lobster pie, it had large pieces of some the tastiest lobster I have had in a lobster pie in a long time. My wife had the salmon which she says was very good. The place was busy but we were seated right away. The prices were very reasonable and staff were very helpful.

Alright Grassfields, we need to talk. Don't get me wrong, I still love you, but the last few times we've been together there's been something missing. It's not you, it's the food. When my dad wants a medium well steak, it shouldn't be redder than my medium rare. And the pilaf shouldn't be crunchy. I know. I know. I know. Places have off nights - I get that - and that's why I'm not breaking up with you. I'm just telling you to get your act together. I continually bring my parents around for dinner and this is how the food behaves? If this keeps up, they'll never accept our love! I think I just need some time. Don't call me. I'll call you.

The layout would say it is very family oriented, if mom is 85 and your 60.. The food was good, the wait staff was great. If your in the area and are seeking american food, its a good choice.

Very good food. Always have chicken teriyaki. The homemade rice pilaf is great. Salad and bread is even good too. Prices are fair, usually is a wait, and service is always good too.

Went here on a recommendation and had good yelp review. It was just as described. Food was very good, service was nice, and a good value too!. Pumpkin martini was delish as was my steak tipd and the pumpkin spice cake to finish it off. My only gripe is that I feel the decor seemed a bit dated. But we shall return.

Pleasantly surprised! We were out searching for a place we could get STEAK. Everything else on Rt 28 was PACKED. We had no idea what we were in for with "Grassfields", a place we had never heard of before but we decided to give it a shot. We ended up really liking it! It's a very generic-looking restaurant. Light woodwork throughout. Some booths, some tables. Little bar area up front that looked really well-stocked. Hostess showed us to a table - but when I saw it was in the middle of the place, I asked for one of the open booths I saw instead, and she sat us there. During our stay, I noticed 3 other groups of people also turn up their noses at the same tables in the middle of the place. You have to go there to see, but the surrounding booths are on an elevtated area, so all the tables in the middle of the place are like, in a fishbowl - you know? It's like everyone is watching you. I could tell no one liked that vibe there and it was funny seeing numerous people balk at being seated there. - The lighting is REALLY DIM. Like DARK. A few tables have like ZERO lighting over them! We wondered about that - how could they see their food? But we had lighting. And a good booth. So we were happy. Waitress took our order, came back with a nice loaf of bread - it was decent. We got steak and lamb. The Filet Mignon was EXCELLENT. Like BUTTER. We were thrilled with that! I highly recommend it here! The lamb was also excellent! Rack of lamb, cooked perfectly, well-seasoned - just one of my favorite things. - When we got the check we were surprised at how reasonably priced it was! We were both thrilled with the quality of food. The place doesn't LOOK like much, and the menu is all-american standards, but for us, it was perfect.

We had just finished our group meeting and our boss was taking us out for lunch. Having tired mostly every restaurant in the Andover area, Grassfields was the only one left out. Once we walked in the place was popping with friendliness, coolness of the AC, and warmth of a neighborhood spot to be seen at. I got the broiled scrod, boss the baked scrod and my co worker the baked salmon. We also ordered the meditterian salad to share. The salad was way better than expected. Fresh and filled with other veggies other than your typical filler of lettuce. The salad when well with their homemade warm bread loaf and whipped butter. WHen our entrees came we were so excited to see what our neighbors have been telling us for months to try. Food came out HOT and smelled like a fisherman's dream. Once I poked my fork into my scrod, I knew it was FRESH!!!!! The meet was tender, flaky and it looked amazing. The rice pilaf was done right also. Moist, flavorful and plenty. My coworkers salmon looked a little over cocked for my taste but she said it was amazing. With a little room in our tummies, we ordered their strawberry short cake dessert. It was very yummy and a great ending to a busy and stressful Friday work wk. Can't wait to go back!!!

Normally it's five stars great night. However, this night they had no Riesling wine. If you only carry one type, how the heck can you run out and not keep it in stock? Someone needs to tell the bartender to step it up on his inventory and causing a negative light on the restaurant. Also, if you are going to post a martini special at the door - you should know what it is and how to make it. WiFi / service: absolutely no wi-fi and less than 5% (often none) with AT&T.

My dad and I were stuck in Andover for the day and were looking for a good place to eat lunch. According to my dad, he was looking for a place "along the lines of a Ruby Tuesdays." (I think what he really meant is somewhere that didn't cost a lot of money). So when he told me that he thought we should go to Grassfields, I wasn't expecting much...except for reasonable prices. I was pleasantly surprised. There were, as other reviewers mentioned, many older to elderly folks there. Usually, this tells me that the food will be either bland or cheap....or bland and cheap. Fortunately for us, the food was not bland, but it was cheap. I had my very first lobster pie, which was delicious. ...Totally not on the healthy diet plan, but who cares. What's not to love about lobster, butter, and breadcrumbs? They had a decent beer menu, the atmosphere was pleasant and not too loud. The service was friendly and efficient. The food was fresh and delicious, and the portions were generous. And you know, it was nice to be able to eat reasonably-priced food without dozens of blaring TV screens on the wall and rabid sports fans and loud twenty-somethings everywhere. I will be back soon. Next time I'll try their teriyaki steak and rice pilaf.....

If you're looking for a trendy, hip, or fancy restaurant with a lot of young and attractive people, this is not your place. The median age is probably 65 and if you're Asian like me, you might stick out like a sore thumb. BUT...the food is solid. The steak tips are always cooked to perfection. The booths are cozy, prices reasonable, and the food is on point.

I absolutely love this place. Though it's known to have an older crowd, that doesn't bother me. The prices are super reasonable, the staff is great, and the food is awesome! The rice is my favorite, and to be honest, that's what has kept me coming back. I'm only giving four stars however because I think the menu is somewhat small.

Service is excellent. Friendly, quick and my waitress was not a helicopter waitress which was great. Calamari was ok, wish someone would make an effort and do something different with calamari. I had the crab pie and petit NY strip and it was cooked perfectly. The crab pie could do with a little less help from the crust and a little more emphasis on the crab. But paired it was delicious, can't complain it was a great dinner. Did I mention my waitress Teresa L was a doll? She was fantastic

Other reviewers have mentioned old people, the 99, and Denny's. I'm right there with you. Add to that some questionable customer service. We were a party of 11, six kids and five adults, and we were in search of a place that could seat us promptly, would be reasonably priced, and would have stuff kids and adults like to eat. You would think we could find a place like that by calling in advance, but it's harder than you might imagine. My sister called a few places, including Bertucci's and they all were a hesitant about providing us with a table and no wait for 6:30pm on a Wednesday evening. Finally, Grassfield's to the rescue (we thought) who told us, yes, they could have a table waiting for us at 6:30. I actually arrived at 5:30pm, because I was coming off of a long drive and the traffic was much lighter than I thought. So, I stuck my head into Grassfield's at 5:30pm, and they said we were all set for 6:30. OK, fine, I went and took a walk and enjoyed the nice weather. I returned at 6:25pm, and asked them if I could just sit at the table and wait because my family is a pretty prompt crew and would be there in a few minutes. They did not let me; they asked me to sit at the bar. Then my brother walked in with his two kids, and they still would not seat us. So, now it's 6:30pm, and as I predicted, the rest of the group all arrived, so there are eleven of us squished into the bar and it's not ideal because we do have six kids and they are not exactly a welcome sight in a bar. Not to mention that they are kids and acting like kids--they ranged in age from four to thirteen. OK, can you believe this one: we were kept waiting in the bar for......35 minutes. Are you kidding me? After all that pre-planning we were made to wait 35 minutes??? Every now and then one of the hostesses came over to us and said something nuts like, "Your table is going to be clear in a few minutes," and "The party ahead of you is just getting ready to leave." Uhm...OK. 35 minutes of that. Finally, we get seated and the bread and drinks arrive to save us from the wrath of our hungry kids. My peach sangria was a big disappointment. Kool Aid flavored, and no "bite" to it. It was small and weak. As for the menu, it was "fish in bread crumbs", "chicken in bread crumbs" and "scallops in bread crumbs". No wonder the old ladies love this place. I guess old ladies have a particular fondness for bread crumbs. Like the sangria, the menu was also rather small and weak. I asked if one of their highly creative (bacon burgers!) burgers could be a veggie burger but they do not have veggie burgers. I'm sure they have not yet heard of them. Maybe I could have had them concoct a bread crumb burger? I got stuffed mushrooms and a salad. The salad was rather nice; goat cheese and spinach (you thought I was going to say iceberg lettuce, right?) The stuffed mushrooms strange tasting. I think there was red bell pepper in them, but I'm not sure because they were smothered in a cream sauce. All in all, the food was merely acceptable. Next time I'll give Bertucci's another shot.

I don't care how blue hair it makes me sound-I love the food at this place! Even if it does seem to cater to the over 70 crowd, the big, full scallops, the scrod, the pilaf made with spinach, and the lobster pie are all succulent. Of course it doesn't hurt that they drench everything in so much butter! Good place to go with lots of extended relatives.

Grassfields was 4 stars on Yelp so I had to try it. You can get here from 495 or through the back roads. It's tucked into a little shopping center behind the McDonald's. It turns out to be very much worth its four stars. I found a place to park and noticed this parking lot was very crowded, even for a Wednesday night. They sat me right away in the upper deck area, and everyone smiled and was friendly. I could see everyone in the place was happy to be there. The menu surprised me at how inexpensive everything was; the hard part was choosing which of the wonderful dinner choices I wanted. I was a little less hungry so I went with the filet with a simple baked potato and side salad. They asked me if I wanted bread, so I said yes and they brought me a huge loaf of fresh out of the oven sesame bread that was very good. My steak I ordered medium rare which normally means I get it medium. It was not only medium rare, but cooked to perfection where there was no raw part, it sliced like butter was was delicious. Salad and baked potato were perfect, and I wasn't stuffed when I left. My only thought was that I would have loved to have taken a slice of apple pie back with me when I left, but that's not on the menu. Maybe next time.

  • Paul S.

this place is rather interesting/amusing.

Ate at Grassfields tonight. Inexpensive with fair food. Issue is with cleanliness! Our waitress cleaned off our table with her bare hand! We watched another server vacuum around a table where people were eating! Health Officer take notice!

Pass

Service was also outstanding.

they do not have the lunch menu on sundays, but wen i went I didnt even realize it was the dinner menu with all the amazing prices!! i got stuffed shrimp, broiled scrodd and a loaded mashed potato for $16 - anywhere else this would be $20+. my boyfriend got salmon in some delicious sauce and was topped with lobster!

  • Peter S.

I recommend.

wasn't a bad place years ago.

    (5)
  • Laura C.

    (4)
  • Jeffrey H.

  • Dave B.
