Best authentic Thai food! This place is just so true for Thai people. If you want to try Thai food go to this restaurant!

I've only ordered delivery here and they're really hit or miss. If they could get their quality to be consistent, they could really be one of my favorite places. 5 stars for their crab rangoons, I usually hate them but theirs are yummy. 4 stars for pad see ew, I had to add soy sauce to get the right flavor profile, and their pork was very overcooked. 3 stars for their crispy basil chicken, not impressed. Mostly sweet and sour sauce, no basil, not crispy. 1 star for their veggie tempura. Soggy, no flavor, all went into the garbage.

There is a place on the next block that I love but decided one day to try this place. I am not a picky guy but I did get the sense that the woman behind the counter was pissed off. My intuition was correct as she answered a phone order and grimaced and PUNCHED the counter in front of all the customers. A guy came from out back to calm her down. (Must've been a bad day. We're all human.) She did seem to take solace in the Taylor Swift music video playing on the TV above. The food wasn't bad but I found it to offer a LOT more white rice than actual entree. My tofu royal and spring rolls weren't bad but when all is said and done I decided I have no need to return when I can just go to S & I To Go (which I reviewed previously) right down the block for a much better experience.

I discovered this little hole in the wall just recently. There are only 4 or 5 tables for eating in. Mostly a take-out joint. Everything I've tried so far has been good: Spicy Beef Salad, Chicken Curry, and Basil Fried Rice. Damn that Basil Fried Rice was super spicy! The staff is friendly and the service is fast. I'll be back again for more!

Great hole in the wall in Allston. I mostly get the pork plates and love every single one of them. The staff is very friendly and service is good. I come here at least 3-5 times every 6 months.

Their Indonesian fried rice is just brown rice with burnt chicken, and an egg. Extremely bland. The chicken seems as if it was cooked five days ago.

Good place. Only 4-5 tables but I ate there. Food was real good and obviously fresh. I live nearby I think I'll order occasional delivery and try more of the menu. Recommended.

Mhhhhhhhm! This Thai food was FAN-TAS-TIC! My boyfriend and I got this mango/pineapple curry dish with shrimp and a salmon dish with tamarind sauce. SO GOOD!! AND! Their crab rangoon were the best I've ever had! So much flavor in the dishes, not too hot/spicy, very sweet and savory. If you're going to get Thai food, this place is the spot!

This is the best Thai food I've had in Boston, possibly ever. And trust me- I'm a Thai food snob. The secret is to order off the Thai menu. No, you can't read it, but if you describe what you want to taste they'll recommend something for you. I was lucky enough to have a Thai friend with me who could order, and I had the yum (? Spelling?). Think larb with glass noodles and triple the flavor. But let's be real here- they're not messing around, spice-wise. If you can handle your heat, the yum and the spicy papaya salad are tough to beat.

Don't know how their food is, because it hasn't arrived yet. We ordered food and it still hadn't arrived over an hour later. No call, no update on time. Usually if it's going to be much longer (and GrubHub's estimates are usually longer than it actually takes), restaurants call and let you know. When I called, he said the driver had just left and it would be another 20 minutes. Nope.

  • Heidi B.

Absolute worst experience I've ever had when ordering! Do not place an order with them unless you have at least an hour and a half to wait. I tried canceling my order after waiting 1 hr 45 mins, and they told me the delivery man would be "right outside now." Ummm okay. I was pleasantly surprised that after nearly 2 hours of waiting the food was hot and tasted delicious. I then became disenchanted to discover 2 PIECES OF WOOD in my pad thai. What a disgrace, since their food is great but their service CLEARLY needs improvement.

I'm Thai ,, I visited Boston fit the first time and went there because my friends here took me. I'm a yelp fan... I was a bit unsure if I would like this place base from the reviews here... I give them 4 stars because of the taste for the food... Nothing else impressed me

    (4)
  • Jerry S.

The only reason I'm giving them 2 stars is I've eaten here before years ago and it was decent. Tonight we had pad thai, pad woon sen, and spring rolls. The peanut sauce barely saved the spring rolls, the pad woon sen was awful (couldn't even eat it), and the pad thai was super bland.

After browsing GrubHub for about an hour, my boyfriend and I decided we couldn't go wrong with thai for our night in. We were luckier than most, as our order came within 45 mins- 1 hr, which was quicker than they said it would take. The food wasn't awful, but I was disappointed because whatever I received was NOT what I ordered. I ordered the garlic entree with tofu. This was supposed to come with baby corn, mushroom, broccoli, snow peas (and maybe a couple other vegetables) in addition to the garlic sauce. What I got was chicken, with carrots, broccolli and pineapple. And the brown rice I had ordered as a side. There wasn't even an entree that included these things! I don't know if it was the end of the night and they just threw a bunch of stuff in. As for the chicken vs. tofu. Good thing I am not an actual vegetarian or I would've been having spring rolls for dinner. It tasted good enough, not a lot of sauce, but plenty of garlic- but again I was disappointed as this was not what I wanted. The other item we ordered was correct and the spring rolls were good- and all the food arrived hot (and in one piece) but with over 220 places that will deliver to our apartment in Allston, this one will not go to the top of the list...

I am Thai and I think this place is awesome. They have two menus: one in Thai and one in English. The menus have different items on them. But if you really want to try northeastern thai food, ask them to recommend something off of the Thai menu. Koh Moo Yang is a must here :)

  • Will B.

I just ordered delivery from here and it was fantastic! I got green curry and Thai rolls, both were great! I've been looking for the right place to order delivery Thai food and I've finally found the right place that delivers to my area, the food was great and the service was super fast and nice! I highly recommend it!

This is my favorite Allston/Brighton Thai food. It's inexpensive and consistently good. The place is tiny but they have really fast delivery.

After years of swearing off this place, I decided to give it another chance because my normal Pad See Ew fix (S & I) wasn't delivering due to traffic. My need was urgent. At least this time they got my order right, but I feel like the quality has gone even more down hill. The noodles were overcooked, they were oily, and the sauce has a weird flavor, as if there is way too much onion in it. Bleh. That will teach me to give second chances.

Thai Place is a consistently solid option for Thai delivery. The portions are huge, the food arrives hot, and everything is tasty. They did screw up my order once - I got pineapple fried rice instead of mango - but it wasn't a huge deal. Their Pad Thai is yummy every time and I really like their scallion pancake. I tried the drunken noodles once, and they were good. The fried ice cream is a must.

  • Chanon V.

As a Thai, this place is the best place for Northeastern Thai food, as good as those one in Thailand (very authentic). If you like spicy and sour food, and also Thai BBQ pork or chicken, you should try it!

  • Melinda F.

Bad experience with their delivery -- we were given a completely wrong order (2 fried chicken entrees + 2 soups, instead of the pad thai, red curry and dumplings we ordered). I wouldn't leave a bad review just for one mistake (hey, it happens), but the restaurant was argumentative and rude when I called to tell them we'd been given the wrong food. They made me describe what we'd been delivered about 15 times before they grudgingly agreed to fix the order. Then the food wasn't even that good! Red curry was decent but the pad thai was bland and the dumplings were gummy and gross. Definitely won't be ordering from here again.

I have been ordering delivery from here for a while and have gotten mixed results. Sometimes delivery as fast other times slow. Food is more a hit than a miss but still misses more than I would like. If you are ordering delivery from here, there is a good chance you will have to wait a while from 45min to 2hrs. This place is very busy sometimes. However, when I get an a estimate I expect at latest 10 mins after that not 45 mins. Overall this does have good food so order if you want thai but beware the delivery sometime and hope they are not busy.

I'm cutting Thai Place off my list. I do understand that they have a loyal clientele, and I respect that.... but I've had way too many inconsistencies. It's a shame, because I've had a few good meals here, they are very convenient, and WAY more humble/low-key than Dok Bua or Brown Sugar. But I refuse to wait nearly 50 minutes for 2 pad thai orders. This is not delivery... this is a pickup order. I gave them a solid 25 minutes before I arrived (she said 15 when I called in my order). Granted... they were WILDLY busy at the time, but I was pretty confident that my order was skipped over by other customers. They were terribly understaffed for whatever reason, and it really screwed up my night. To cap it off, the food was super bland. Almost bland enough to complain, but I didn't want to lose the remainder of my night on that place. They've also taken very long on some deliveries in the past, and have screwed up twice during delivery orders (putting chicken in a vegetarian's tofu dish). I'm giving them 2 stars on this update because they must be doing something right to have such loyal customers. Also, I have had at least two really good meals from there in the past.... but overall, I rank them a distant 3rd or 4th behind Brown Sugar, Dok Bua, and Rod Dee. Honestly, Bo Thai has even been more consistent for me!

Place is OK. It's a tiny takeout, hole-in-the-wall type place and I had sorta low expectations. Service was OK, not great, water is warm, no ice cubes, bottled beverages. They seemed pretty busy, which was sorta a good sign, sorta annoying. Edamame and crispy spring rolls with chicken inside for apps - actually some of the best thai apps I've had in a while. Basil Pad Thai for main meal - just wanted to eat light before a concert - was just OK. It was spicy and flavorful, but not that great. I'd come back here, but I don't think I'm a huge fan, plus the name is super generic... oh well.

My first time getting food at Thai Place and I will never again. I ordered the shrimp pad thai, because, how can you mess up pad thai? Well apparently you can, by not putting any flavoring on the noodles. The shrimp was also completely bland, like they broiled it, and threw it on top. There was also 3 only pieces in the entire plate. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

This place is better than the average Bostonian Thai restaurant. They have family size options with decent portions. The dish was too sweet for my taste though. The crab fried rice was decent. It wasn't like other restaurants where the crabmeat is hard to find or there is more oil than rice. I would've given a 4 if they delivered within 45 minutes as promised. They took close to an hour. My order was through Seamless and they didn't read any of the instructions place for the order either.

We ordered takeout on a Saturday around noon. After an hour, I called and asked for an update, and was told our food was on it's way and would be delivered in 15-20 minutes. Our food didn't arrive until after 2. This is outrageous, especially considering we ordered one crispy chicken and a salad--how long could that possibly take to make and deliver? We are only 3.5 miles from this place. If I hadn't paid via credit card I would have cancelled the order. Never again.

Top rated Thai near my house on Foodler = Worst Thai I've ever tried. Greasy and flavorless best describe the food here. Was cheap and portions were okay, so I'd give 1.5. With so many good Thai options in the area, including Rod Dee, Sugar and Spice & Brown Sugar, there is no reason to patronize. If you're absolutely desperate for delivery, consider all options before settling.

I have been here twice, and both times were pretty disastrous. Most recently I ordered the Pad Woon Sen, which is a pretty simple dish of clear noodles, vegetables, and chicken/shrimp. I ordered it without shrimp, which they double checked with me, but they still gave me shrimp and the entire dish smelt fishy. Not too big of a deal, but the dish was also mostly large chunks of cabbage/lettuce and barely any noodles or chicken. Why did I pay $11 for this? I had this same dish, for the same price, at Brown Sugar on Comm Ave and it was delicious. This. This was an abomination.

I normally get Thai take out from S&I just up the street, but since Thai Place is actually closer to my apartment I decided to give them a chance. I really regret that decision. I was craving Tom Yum soup, so I ordered a large soup and picked it up. My food was ready quickly and nice and hot, I'll give them that (hence 2 stars instead of just 1). But it was AWFUL! It tasted like warm fish sauce and nothing else. Completely inedible. I had to throw it out, which is not like me. Even though all I tried was the soup, I won't be coming back. I'll walk the extra block to pick up from S&I.

Eh, honestly there isn't much that makes this place stand out. Their vegetable curry is very tasty. Their brown rice is a little cooked to death which I've noticed at many Asian restaurants that happen to serve brown rice. I really have no problems with this place. The reason why I sometimes eat here despite not being blown away is because they are so close to my apartment and its perfect for nights when my husband and I don't feel like going too far for dinner. If we were to move, we would probably never go here. If you've read any of my other reviews, I'm a huge lover of Southeast Asian cuisine and have many reviews on restaurants that I would gladly travel out of my area to eat at. Bottom line: If you're in the Allston/Brighton area and you're looking for something quick, tasty and pretty inexpensive then I would say this place would be fine. If you're looking for great quality and attention to detail, skip it.

Ordered Thai Place through Foodler last night. I live up the street and have walked past this place a million times and never even noticed it. I usually order from Brown Sugar, but this was the first Thai place to come up on Foodler, it had been reviewed a bunch, so I went with it. I ordered a very standard takeout meal. Pad Thai Country (only noticeable difference between normal pad thai was extra chili sauce) & thai rolls. Both were delicious. The spring rolls were crispy without an ounce of grease. The pad thai was massive. I have enough for 3 meals out of it. Plus it tasted great. Delivery was quick and the delivery girl was polite & friendly. I don't do take out often, but I will definitely be going back when I need my pad thai fix.

This one is easy: they delivered to us within 30 minutes in the middle of the worst storm to hit New England in years. The food is reliably good and spicy, and the delivery people are always great and grateful, so tip them up!

I can't speak to the quality of the food because I never ordered from there, but I was with my roommate when she ordered their food and they screwed her over on delivery. She was given inconsistent prices by two different people on the phone, and when the delivery person arrived they charged her around $5 more than either of the prices they told her on the phone. At this point the meal was around $7 or $8 more than it was on the menu, and she was supposed to get free delivery.... laame

I love this place. I order from here every week or 2 and I'm never unhappy. I recommend ordering out or getting delivery as the small dining area doesn't make for the best experience, but the food is so darn good! They easily have the best Tom Kha Gai (coconut, chicken, mushroom soup) I've had to date. I usually order with extra mushrooms to make any leftovers go just a bit further. It's perfectly creamy and a little tangy, and the tablespoon of chili sauce I normally add gives it a nice kick. I've tried a lot of dishes on the menu but find that you cannot go wrong with the country pad thai and all curry dishes. All of the appetizers I've tried are very light and flavorful. Can't wait to go home and eat my leftovers from last night!

Got take out from this place. Delivery was a little slow, but the food was divine. It took almost an hour and 20 minutes when the estimated time was 45 minutes. Granted they were delivering to JP in a kind of hard to get to neighborhood. Anyway, I had the Drunken Noodle but had the, substitute the wide noodle with regular rice noodles, which they did and I very much appreciated it. The Drunken Noodle was VERY spicy, but I liked it a lot. Lots of great veggies in there, too. My friend had the Pad See You which I tried and was really good, too. But I much preferred my spicy Drunken Noodle. We got the Thai Place Platter split between 3 of us and hardly had half of it. It was decent, but the entrees were such big portions and so yummy I would much rather just stick with the noodles. Very good, would definitely recommend it if you have some time to kill.

Ordered from Foodler, and we live all the way in JP, so maybe it would have been better at the place itself, but Choo Chee curry and Panang curry were just ok. (You could taste the difference, which, good. However, both were sweet, with few other flavors.) Same problem with the Tom Kha, here called just Coconut Soup. The kicker, though? MASSIVE MSG headache almost immediately, and I am not especially sensitive to it, so there must have been a lot of it. Also, they forgot our Diet Cokes, though Foodler was fabulous about refunding the money. I'm spoiled from living in Houston, with a huge Thai population and a lot of very authentic Thai places, but I am unlikely to order from here again.

I ordered from this place mostly because they have chive dumplings. So good. So very good. I have ordered a number of things from here. Fried tofu +. Vegetarian platter - (the one at bamboo is better). Indonesia fried rice ~. Pad thai w crispy chicken +. But seriously, overall it is ok. Chive pancakes are AMAZING however. Get them!

this is my favorite go-to thai place, and i order from here at least once every week or two. personal favorites are the house fried rice (with beef) and thai spring rolls with vegetables. pad thai is also very good. delivery is on-time, prices aren't too steep, and it hits the spot every time!

  • John M.

I miss Thai place like I miss my childhood pets. I don't know what "authentic" Thai food consists of, but I know my suburban white boy palate loves hole-in-the-wall pan-asian cuisine. Their pad thai is prime and their curries were supreme. Also, I don't know why, but the idea of naming their restaurant after what it is always put a smile on my face. Not Smiling Dragon or Jade Noodles. Thai Place. No confusion.

If you're looking for Thai in Allston, I prefer Thai Place over S&I, by far. As a vegan, when I'm in the mood for quick Thai take-out, I go here for the Tofu Mango Curry. Might not be the best Thai ever, but it does the trick.

I had yet another snow day from work, and while working from home I got a craving for Thai. My usual go-to, Bamboo Thai, doesn't deliver until 5:00pm, and it was only noon so Foodler recommended Thai Place. I ordered the red curry with beef and the wonton soup. The curry was pretty gosh darn good. Not too spicy but lots of flavor. Red curry is my favorite of all thai foods and this did not disappoint. I also was glad that they delivered it with the rice separate from the curry which makes the leftovers better since the rice can't get mushy. The soup was just so-so. Not a lot of flavor going on and the wontons fell apart far too easily. It could have used a bit of salt and more stuff in the broth. I would go back for the curry but skip the soup.

One of the best Thai restaurants in Boston. Great for delivery, awesome chicken satay. The Pad Thai Country is great too. Real Thai food :)

  • Katie V.

Hadn't ordered from Thai Place in a while, and boy, did it ever hit the spot tonight. I got the red curry again (with beef and extra veggies) -- and it was as delicious as before. I can't wait to devour the leftovers tomorrow. But what is prompting me to add a star and update my review is the crab rangoon. I'm not a huge fan because often they are so greasy and contain very little crab and too much cream cheese. But these? These were delicate pillows of crab-stuffed heaven. Seriously. I am going to have dreams about this crab rangoon. It was transcendent.. Best crab rangoon I've possibly ever had.

If I could give 0 stars I would...I made my first order with Thai Place 1 hour and 10 minutes ago over the phone, for delivery. The women said it would take 35 minutes to an hour...a huge range but I thought okay, its a Friday night. Well a hour goes by and I call, only to be told Thai Place only employs one delivery guy (what?!) to cover a territory of Brighton, Jamaica Plain, greater Boston...crazy! Food just came, 1 hour 25 minutes later, and its all cold, what a nightmare! I will NEVER order here again...I live 1 mile away and I ordered 2 Pad Thai! Do yourself a favor and order from S&I, or anywhere else but this place!

This place is such a hidden gem!! I have literally been a loyal customer of Thai Place for 10 years now. Order the chicken basil fried rice. I have lost count of how many people try it and then call me to ask "what was that amazing dish you got called?" Or any of their curry dishes are phenomenal. The one mildly unpleasant experience I had there in the last decade was when I ordered the papaya salad and the sticky rice was old and stale, not fresh at all. But seriously, not bad considering the amount of times I've gone here! Overall I would recommend either doing pickup or going there to eat, sometimes delivery can take a while since they are a small establishment and only have 1 driver... but if it's not during a time restaurants are usually busy then go for it!

I like this place. It's your typical hole in the wall, meant for delivery/takeout restaurant. Yes there are chairs and tables, but dont expect any kind of real dining experience here, that is not what this place is. Having said that, lets talk about the food. Its good. Pretty much sums it all up. Whatever you think sounds good, order it, cause it probably is. There hasnt been one thing at this place i've gotten that has had me regret it. If anything, if you're not into spicy thai food, don't order any of the spicy dishes cause they serve it hot n spicy. And i like it hot n spicy, just like my women. Just kidding, but not really. Their pad thai is obviously good, as any decent thai restaurant should serve that dish well enough, but their seafood spaghetti tom yum dish is absurd. I could barely eat it cause it was so hot, but at the same time i kept eating it cause it was so good. Their prices are fair and are the typical average for what you would pay for at the type of place it is, but the quality of the food is what makes it stand out. Its delicious.

I understand that this place has a huge clientele that order take-out but I'm reviewing their dine-in. My girlfriend and I ordered the vegetarian appetizer platter and their country pad thai. Simple enough. We also planned on ordering curry and dessert but we decided in the end to save our stomach for another of the great allston joints. We ordered more than enough. We started off with the compulsory Thai Iced Teas. (note, I saw them abbreviate it as TIT on their receipts, heehee) well, now that you think less of me, I would love to say that they are a great value and pretty good. I must say, there was more I think condensed milk/evaporated milk than I had preferred but I could still taste the tea and it was only $1.95 Their vegetarian platter was huge and well worth the money. I must've said a couple times during the meal that, "this is fun!" It came with three different sauces: a sweet and sour sauce, peanut sauce, and a tamarind?hoisin? sauce. I was sure it was a sauce. har. Anyways it was fun trying all their appetizers and seeing which sauce tasted best with each. Great finger food. The little fried egg rolls reminded me of finger-licking parties at my cousins' birthdays. Next up was a heaping plate of their country style pad thai. For about $8, I got more than my money's worth. They mixed up everything which for me, with such a huge portion, is a great thing. I love the aesthetics of presenting some sprouts and peanuts on a leaf of romaine but that just means I only get half a plate of noodles. Here, I got a huge PLATTER of noodles. Yes, the country style makes it very spicy but I think that's the way the cooks love their noodles and how I would prefer to try it. It was just simply great and I could see how excited the server and chefs got when we confirmed that we loved the food. After all the great food, they still presented us with a little dessert: two coconut jelly's. It was two-layered, one clearer jello with pieces of young coconut and another perhaps a coconut milk jello. I loved it and it reminded me of my childhood days of eating young coconut out of cans. I love this place and will hate to move away from it. The service was pretty awesome and everyone seemed to smile at us from the chefs to even their leather-jacketed driver who picked up drink trays with "TIT" written on them. I would definitely recommend dining-in. We got our food really quickly and we were just happy to spend our dinner there.

Alright I just placed my first ever order from Thai Place tonight at 8:25 I ordered the Thai Place Platter for an appitzer The Chicken Drunken Noodle and the Sautéed Entree 'Broccoli with Chicken and Shrimp" (Not on the menu but they did both meats for me) Now it's time to wait and see how it is..... The lady on the phone said it would be 35 minutes, ding dong, 50 minutes later foods here and we're hungry Apps were a good mix of food, Sarah didn't like one of the dumplings, she said it tasted like farm but I ate it for her, not bad in my book entrees were both very good, drunken noodle was reaal spicy and tasty. I am sweating right now as I type this review. The broccoli veggies with chicken and shrimp was good according to Sarah. "Not Greasy, good rice, reasonable portion, and not overly saucy" I'd say my review is hovering at a 3.5 now but because of the wait I'm going to give them a 3 But I will order again!!! and I suggest you order too!

ordered from here off foodler which usually has great places, Thai Place was tasteless and over whelming in spiciness, and i like it hot, no flavor because there was so much spiciness. i had the old country pad thai 3 bites and it was over I almost feel like they did it as a joke...go somewhere else these guys need a new chef

Great hole in the wall Thai shop. Very small... only seating for about 12 total... but the food is very good and the prices are on the less expensive side. Try the coconut chicken soup (one of the best I have had of late - lots of fresh mushrooms) and the Country Pad Thai... both were excellent.

First of all, how awesome is this restaurant's name? -Let's go to The Thai Place? -Which one? -No, THE Thai Place! The makings of a classic Abbot and Costello sketch are somewhere in there. But onto the food... superb! I'm a vegetarian so I can't speak to any of the meat dishes, but all the veggie stuff is really filling; I've found not many ethnic places can pull that off. I recommend the Tofu Mango Curry. Mmm...

Tasty Thai food in Allston, and not as expensice as Brown Sugar. The spring rolls, Country Pad Thai and Mango Fried rice are all reliably good, and I like the heart-shaped ice cubes too. Can't complain.

I ordered the Vegetable Pad Thai Country style with the "exotic" spices and it's absolutely the best pad thai I've had in Boston. I also had the fried pork ravioli and those were pretty good. Nothing too memorable, but anything with pork is delish.

We ordered delivery from here- as vegetarians, our options were already somewhat limited, so we thought we were safe when we ordered the vegetable dumpling soup and the tofu pad Thai. There sure was a lot of meat in our food for the veggie options we selected! The dumplings turned out to be pork and ww found what we were pretty sure was chicken in the pad Thai (it's still up for debate whether the substance in question was chicken or extremely overbooked egg- either way it was gross). $37 and a few bad words later, we wound up throwing out most of our order.

My boyfriend offered to buy me dinner a couple weeks ago when we felt like getting takeout, so I asked for Thai. My go-to Allston Thai place sadly closed lately (R.I.P. Suvarnabhumi Kiri), so, after looking at the reviews here, I decided to give it a try. It was certainly decent, don't get me wrong. It just wasn't the best I've ever had, either. The scallion pancakes and vegetable tempura were both rather soggy. Granted, those are dishes that don't do well with sitting. But we picked the takeout up fast and they were already terribly limp. Maybe they'd be better if you at there and they'd *just* come out of the oil. The tofu triangles and vegetable triangles, however, were great. Not overly greasy. Just fried perfectly. The spice on the vegetable triangles was great. I didn't try my boyfriend's entree (one of the curries with shrimp), but he seemed to find it to be good, but nothing spectacular. I got the tamarind tofu, which I really liked, but I'd agree with some of the other reviews here that it was a little sweet (although I personally liked that--I wanted something sweeter that night, which is why I didn't pick a curry instead). Overall, I'd say it was good for cheaply priced Thai food. My boyfriend called it "carnival" Thai--sometimes a little greasy, and, while not the best in the world, cheap and rather tasty.

Good Stuff... I love thai food and this place does some good eats! Tom Yum soup is good and their Yellow Curry was on spot on. Only a few tables so it's a good place to order our from. Owner behind the counter gives friendly and surprisingly fast service. ... so Again... Allston rocks!

This place was right around the corner from me when I lived in Allston, so after many a late night working or practicing ninjitsu, I'd often stop here for some curries or satay and spring roll. It's cute, casual, TINY (hey, it's Boston) and pretty darn good. I'd give it 5 stars, but I feel that's my nostalgia kicking in. So four it is!

I am currently sitting at my desk in New York City, eating this town's pathetic excuse for Thai food and dreaming of the days that Thai Place was just down the street from my house. I was so much happier (and fatter) back then.

i first heard about it from my friend from thailand, she said its where she gets her thai food. its a little hole in the wall that has solid food. especially if you are just getting the basics. im sick of reading yelp reviews for places that are good, and seeing negative reviews because a bunch of idiots are ordering obscure menu items and have no idea what they should even taste like. this is a mom and pop shop not some lame thai fusion place. i know a lot of people from thailand and they swear by it. i always get the veggie pad thai with tofu, and its always great. tried the shumai last night ive had better, but it wasnt by any means bad.

So there's the matter of the weird Thai pop videos (the group is Tiwa Hula Hula and I think you should go Google them immediately) and the matter of the general chaotic feel to the place. That's one thing. And DON'T park across the street, because the bouncer/server/security guy (still trying to figure out his role) will yell at you about getting towed. The food, however, is tasty. Didn't love the coconut soup (and can't figure out why there's no tom kha ga), but the green curry with shrimp was pretty darn good and my friend's mango fried rice was to die for (seriously, why do mangoes in Boston in April taste so good? Je suis confused).

The food wasn't bad but the place seemed real dirty and smelled like a dog - seriously a dog. I'm not finicky but I couldn't hang. Maybe for take-out but with so many choices in this block I wouldn't do it.

Before the food arrived... 1) I prepaid the tip (never again). This was on top of their delivery fee. 2) I waited an hour for delivery. 3) When the food came, the delivery person came, he could not 'come up to my apt' since he was the only in the car. Bullsh*t. What's the tip for? After the food arrived, my friends and I found that... 1) The spring rolls were okay but there was a little too much tofu filler and taste 2) The country pad thai was frickin' gross. Maybe it's because it took so long to get the food, but it was a globular mess. It tasted like hot sauce on a glob of noodles - that's it. 3) Crispy chicken dish was not crispy and fairly tasteless. Seriously, did I order on a bad day? 4) Basil with crispy chicken - better 5) Their version of crab rangoon - not bad. Probably the best thing about the entire order. We couldn't even finish the food. Ack- what a waste of money.

Had a thai ice tea and thai fried rice. The tea was good. The rice was *not*. So we all know that fried rice is made from leftover rice, but it should *not* still be clumped together with dried out pieces. The taste was nice and peppery but no basil taste nor any other flavor...

bumping them up a star because their delivery has drastically improved (knock on wood!). still *love* the drunken noodles with tofu. they are the best!

I knew this was a good place as soon as I saw the Yelp sticker on the door. I was sure it was a good place when I walked in and 3/4 people who worked there all stopped what they were doing to make eye contact with me and say hello. Even if the food were bad, I'd probably come back. I had the tofu tamarind the first time and it was very fresh and tasty--if a little sweet for me. Today I had the pad thai--just right. They do accept credit cards but it costs them money so they prefer if you pay in cash. They are up the block from Urban Renewals, so you can hit them both on the same trip. update: I still like this place, but so far most of the things I've ordered have been too sweet for me.

This review is for their take-out Sat night. We ordered through Grubhub. It was supposed to take 45 minutes and it took an hour and a half. I called the place and the lady said there was a lot of traffic. OK. When we finally got the food they had messed up the order and we got the right number of dishes, just the wrong ones. We were also supposed to get a free soda because we spent more than $50 on so we ordered a Diet Coke. And they gave us a regular coke. How can you mess up a grubhub order when everything is written out for you? Other than that the food was good, but definitely not worth the extra wait and mixup.

I really like Thai Place. Why? Simple: great food, very flexible menu (not only can they make anything vegetarian, but they're also cool with adding plum sauce to your chicken, and taking out the shrimp and peanuts of another dish) decent prices. Mmm. My personal faves (and there are many!) are ravioli & spring roll apps, the mango tofu curry (not too spicy, but lots of flavor), the sauteed ginger beef/tofu/chicken (whatever you're in the mood for) and the curries (since I'm a total spice wimp, I usually ask them to tone it down for me, but my fiancee, cousin, and roommate all LOVE the heat). Why not five stars?? There soups are okay, but not as flavorful as some (they used to have really good noodle soups, but they've been dropped for '08) and the noodle dishes are inconsistent. For example, the pad woon sen will be wonderful one night, but then dry and bland the next week. Maybe it depends on who's in the kitchen--we order there often enough to notice these little differences ;) Bottom line: if you like Thai, live nearby, and are looking for a nice dish, Thai Place is worth a shot.

yayyyy thai place. I order from here at least once a week i would say and i am always happy and spiced filled. the country pad thai is my favorite, i always order it, while my roomie sticks to the yellow curry. ive also had the drunken noodles which are yum yum. my only complaint is that they don't make the summer rolls anymore! and they were so freakin good! oh well. good times come and go, right? anywho, their delivery is super fast and the staff are always so sweet. thank you thai place for being you!!!

love the pad thai, almost all the apps and the peanut sauce here is sooo good! the prices are a little steep for what you get, but i have a weakness for their scallion pancakes with extra peanut sauce

Ordered from here last last night because my favorite thai place, sweet pepper, is closed on Tuesdays. Thai Place didn't even come close to meeting my expectations. I ordered the drunken noodles with chicken and crab rangoons. The rangoons looked and tasted like they were from a frozen food supplier, and the chicken in the noodle dish was chewy and way overcooked. And there were not enough noodles in what they call a noodle dish! I'm definitely sticking with Sweet Pepper after this experience. I will say, after reading the other reviews, that the delivery didn't very long for me. They estimated 45 minutes, and that's how long it took.

The food was not good. My friends and I could not even eat it and ended up ordering pizza instead. The noodles were bland and the chicken was dry, dark brown, and had tendons/fatty gross bits throughout it. I wanted to vomit. We ordered the crispy chicken pad se you, crispy chk crispy pad thai, and crab rangoon. To make matters worse, they charged my card multiple times for the same purchase causing my checking account to overdraw. This little mishap raked up over 500 dollars in overdraft fees from my bank. When I called to complain, the manager asked for my name and number and said he would call me right back. He never did. Never go to this restaurant. They obviously have bad business ethics, no regard for customer service, and have disgusting food.

My favorite Allston/Brighton Thai so far. It's cheap and pretty good quality. Keep in mind that this is not high-end Thai food though - don't go here expecting that or you'll be disappointed. The food is good quality, they let you customize it and everything, but it's not like Brown Sugar or Bangkok City Restaurant where they have fancy, high-end thai. Additionally, their sauces sometimes have a strange textural quality to them - maybe more creamy than I'm used to in Thai? It's not bad - just different.

Amazing food, at great prices. Anything on the menu can be made vegetarian if you ask, and their crispy pad thai, veggie drunken noodle, and spicy basil tofu are all my favorites- absolutely fantastic. The menu itself is pretty extensive. The people who work here are very sweet, and it's never a long wait for your take-out to be ready. It is a little bit difficult to find if you've never been there before, but trust me, it's worth it. Greattttt. Thinking about this place has made me hungry..

After an exhausting day of blowing all my money, my boyfriend and I decided to escape from the cold and eat some Thai food. As anyone who lives in Allston knows, Thai places are a plenty. Maybe it was the fact that this was the first place we saw when we got off the bus, or maybe it was that sensational looking Vegetarian Sampler on the window, but we walked in and took a seat. I noticed it was empty, but it wasn't until I sat down that I noticed that they were really busy with take out orders and deliveries. Good for them. It was the day before Valentines day, but my boyfriend and I didn't really look for any special treatment. We just planned on gorging ourselves. I'm glad I retracted my order though. We ended up with a HUGE vegetarian sampler appetizer and a HUGE plate of country style pad Thai. Amazing. Careful though the pad thai was a weee bit on the spicy side. I have had my fair share of Thai Iced teas, but I can honestly say that their Thai Iced to was absolutely as good as it gets. The waitress was so nice too, even though she was running around taking phone orders, she was really attentive. Everyone in that little place works so hard, but they are so cute and upbeat all the while. I enjoy eating in an Establishment where the waitresses and chefs are happy being there too. It definitely adds to the ambiance. Additionally, at the end of our dinner, we were given these cute little cubes of coconut almond jelly's with tooth picks in them. They were small, but so flavorful and I really appreciated that tiny little gesture. If I could I would pinch this restaurant's cute little cheeks.

I tend to split my orders between Thai Place and S&I when I'm in the mood for no-frills thai food. Low prices and super-fast delivery keep me coming back. Their food is consistently good. May I recommend the Crispy Chicken Basil? Deliciously crispy on the outside; tender and moist on the inside, with a heaping portion of white rice (brown rice, or noodles are available if you prefer) and veggies on the side. All for $8. Their curries are all very good as well.

I used to eat here about once a week back when I lived in Allston and never got bored with the food. It was and is still one of my favorite restaurants on Brighton Ave. I think that says quite a bit about the food quality and selection. It's a small place with little seating (they mostly do takeout) but the service has always been fantastic. My girlfriend and I have even got free dessert on a couple of occasions. The ginger plum shrimp is probably my favorite dish but the mango fried rice has also always been a good go to for dinner.

Best Thai takeout out of the 7 or 8 places I've sampled--which includes the favored "Brown Sugar". -Drunken Noodles are excellent, second only to "Lemon Grass" in Lexington (those are the best I've ever had). If you like Drunken Noodles you know that there is a lot of variability between restaurants so finding one that is consistently excellent is a relief. They come extra spicy, however, so you may want to order mild and as for a side of chili sauce for your first order -Pad Thai is delicious as well--probably my fav in the Boston area but pretty much every Thai place does tasty pad thai around here. -Most of the curry's are excellent if that's your thing---it isn't really mine -Crab rangoons are tasty as are the spring rolls and shumai. The Satay (both chicken and beer) are underwhelming, however. These are the dishes I will do to bat for. Delivery is generally quick and painless via foodler but ~5% of the time we'll have to wait like, an hour and a half for some reason. I'll take the risk, though!

By far the WORST Thai food and delivery experience I have ever had. Although estimated delivery time was 30 minutes, it took over two hours to come! When it finally got here, the delivery boy spilled the bag - apologized - left half the order in a sloppy mess and said he would come back with the other half. When I later went outside, I realized he had thrown the other half in a mess in the middle of my street. Eww! When we called the restaurant, they were not only unapologetic but down right rude. It was a good thing I ordered on Foodler, because Thai place refused to refund our order and could not tell us when the rest of our food would be delivered. After tasting the portion of the food I did have, it really was not worth waiting for or paying for. I love Thai food, but this was downright disgusting! I have never been given a more oily dish at any restaurant, and the oil tasted old. My vegetable curry had hardly any vegetables in it, but instead had deep fried tofu - when I had specifically asked for not to be included. The appetizer was also yucky. As for the other dishes, I don't know and never will. I realize this place has mostly four stars and it baffles me. Probably Alston college kids who don't know what good food is. I am only giving it one star because I am not allowed to give it none. They should put a pad lock on the front door.

So, I was told 45 mins for delivery. At minute 55, I went online to re-read some of these reviews, and found many neg comments about delivery timing. So I called. And I told them it had been about an hour since I ordered, and I had initially been told 45 mins. She apologized, and said about another 10. I then comment about how I noticed online some negative reviews regarding their delivery. Seriously, 10 minutes later, the same woman I was on the phone with arrives at the door apologizing for having it arrive late. I thought this was sooo incredibly sweet of her. (I also thought - yeah, the delivery guy is super far away, and if she hadn't come, I wouldn't be getting my food for another 45 mins...). Anyway, I thought that was awesome. I got the drunken noodle, which was very good, and my husband got the pad thai, also very good. Wasn't super crazy about the chicken spring rolls (too much chicken, too little anything else). But overall, I'll def be trying them again... and praying the delivery goes well a second time.

My husband and I are seeking a reasonable neighborhood Thai place to pick up a weeknight meal. Thai Place is located right next to our favorite Indian dive, Indian Dhabha, so the choice to order from them was made out of practicality and convenience. We had the tofu and veggie panang curry and the spicy green beans with tofu and two orders of brown rice. Though we ordered the larger family style version, the portions were still small (i.e. the take out containers were not filled to the brim). The curry was decent, but more like a standard red curry. I wouldn't repeat the stir fry because the sauce was just a conveyance for salt and tartness. We'll order again knowing it's a safe bet, but we weren't wowed.

I've been going to Thai Place since it opened. They make *the best* scallion pancakes and have stellar seaweed salad. Every time I order from there, I am satisfied with their meals from drunken noodle, Pad Thai, to any of their curry dishes. I must say though the most recent time I ordered from them, I got the mango curry dish which was supposed to include chicken and shrimp. I only got chicken this time. Thai Place, I forgive you.

I lived on the Spicy Basil Leaf with Chicken dish for about a year. The Thai Iced Tea here is good, too. This is definitely more of a take-out spot since the restaurant itself only has a few tables. Staff is friendly, food pick up is easy, and prices are reasonable.

Just came back from a great dinner at Thai Place, which had been recommended by a Thai colleague of mine. Everything was perfect: The Spicy Beef Soup was perfect for my congested head (cleared out my sinuses in a jiffy), the Drunken Noodles with Beef were delish, the Mango Chicken with Noodles were perfectly balanced with coconut and other flavors, and we got a free dessert! I met the husband of the husband-wife team that owns this place -- he was very personable and knowledgeable about Thai food. I'd say that the food was BETTER than S&I, and I plan on returning for future gorge-fests!

Yay!! My husband and I have both tried Thai food a couple of times (I'd say...maybe 4 or 5 times, between the two of us) and never liked it. About a week ago we walked past Thai Place and I saw their menu in the window and really wanted to try their vegetarian appetizers. So today I thought we should give Thai another shot. Totally AWESOME decision on my part. It was the best meal I've had in a while, and we only spent about $30. We started with the vegetarian platter appetizer, and everything in it was awesome (my favorites were the thai rolls and fried tofu--the things I'd seen on the menu before ;D). I got the "Buddha Delight" (steamed veg with peanut sauce) and he had the cashew saute and a strawberry cream smoothie. All of it was crazy delicious, and I'm sure we'll go back soon!

The owner of this place is absolutely awesome. On 2 separate occasions he has given me a free pint of sherbet with my order. I am a big fan of the crab rangoon and the chicken sattay. The pad thai is really delicious too and the portion is large enough for two.

My friend introduced me to this place and I have to admit, I was a bit hesitant at first. But, do not judge this place on appearances alone. It's small, it's cramped, it's poorly decorated. It, however, has some of the best Thai food I've ever come across at amazingly reasonable prices. The Drunken Noodle in particular is simply amazing. It's so flavorful and spicy and it's just as good reheated the next day! It's also a great, instant hangover cure. The major downside being that it's not a great dine-in restaurant, but takeout is their specialty anyway. They'll even served you thai iced tea or hot tea (depending on the season) while you wait for takeout! The staff is always pleasant and I have to say that I was overjoyed when they decided to open on Sundays even if it is for only part of the day. It's too bad I live on the other side of the country now and have not found any restaurant that compares.

Mango curry with chicken and shrimp= SO GOOD. I normally toss zucchini straight into the trash, but this sauce was so tasty that I ate that sh*t! It lasted me for three meals, too, so the high price turns out to be worth it. I will be back to try more sooner than my wallet wants.

This place is not a must visit, but if you're in the mood for Thai, it will certainly satisfy your needs. We ordered the Massaman Curry and Pad Thai to go. The curry was full of colorful veggies that were delicious, but the sauce left something to be desired. The Pad Thai was very typical...nothing out of the ordinary in either a good or bad way. It had minimal chicken or shrimp, but the noodles were great. Can't comment on the ambiance other than to say that I probably wouldn't choose to sit down and eat here on a first date. Perfect for takeout or delivery.

I couldn't figure out how to give zero stars. This is the third time we've ordered from here. The first was good. The food came promptly and at an appropriate temperature. The last time we ordered, it was cold and we calked it up to a bad night. Tonight, we ordered and everything was cold. In addition, the tempura shrimp was a few breaded shrimp with tempura vegetables (all cold). The beef and chicken satay were both dry and cold. I feel like these people stole money from us. We'll never order from here again.

Beware the deep fryer. I used to like this place, but lately meh... Seems like somebody in the kitchen loves the deep fryer. I just ordered the fried dumplings, thinking they'd be pan fried (am I out of order?), instead I received the solution to any oil crisis. I exchanged them for the ravioli on information they would be pan fried. I tried one, still way too much oil. The rest of the food is okay, but I can't really be objective on account of the horrible dumpling/ ravioli. I doubt I'll return any time soon.

Very small, pretty cheap little place. One constant over the ten years I've been eating here is the exceedingly fresh, crispy vegetable dishes which are always delicious--Cashew nut, Spicy Basil leaf, Bamboo Shoot, String Bean Chili--I recommend them all. I never eat the meat or fish dishes nor any of the noodle dishes (the one time I got Drunken Noodles they were awful), nor do I order for delivery, so I can't vouch for that. But if you're a vegetarian looking for cheap, fresh vegetables with rice, this place will probably suit you. Do not park across the street! I saw this giant meathead dude peering menacingly into cars while his tow truck idled nearby...not a friendly situation.

I'm changing my review and increasing the stars. How dare I compare this fine neighborhood cafe to some huge Americanized hall. Give these fine people a lot of well deserved credit. Walk into this place and you may get turned off by the size but it is spotless clean and they obviously serve food from the heart. It's damn good. We had Country Pad Thai, Basil Chicken and some Chicken LoMein. It was good without the glitz. The place is very small, only 16 chairs but you can still eat in or take out. Very tasty, very clean. I'll be back.

I love the Thai Place. As many others I alternate between the Thai Place and S& I Thai. [I hail Brown Sugar as the Queen of Thai restuarants but when I'm looking for delivery that takes charge, its definetly one of these two places]. Quick delivery, yummy food, and scrumptious mango fried rice!

The name might be funny, but the food is what makes Thai Place my favorite Thai place. Everything I've had has been good- I especially recommend the drunken noodle and the Thai Place platter. They always get the spiciness right, and the portions and prices are reasonable. I usually get take-out, but the few times I've had food delivered it got here pretty quickly.

I've never been tempted to sit down and dine in-house, as the restaurant is extremely small and the takeout guys are always coming and going. I have, however, picked up takeout here several times and I don't think you can get a better deal in Allston Village. The servings are large, and the dishes are nice and spicy. Looks a little shady from the outside but well worth stopping by for some quick and inexpensive takeout!

  • Sara H.

The staff are friendly and very quick, and the food is great... better than Brown Sugar and less expensive too. The only thing I'd change about it is the size. There are a few tables inside, but it's really a take out restaurant. It's so small you need a microscope to notice it wedged between all the other businesses on Brighton Ave, but it's worth the search.

I got a new job in Brighton so I'm going to slowly check out the huge selection of restaurants in the area. I was in the mood for something different and after looking through tons of reviews I decided to try Thai Place. I am so happy I did. I ordered the dumpling soup which was good. It had more sprouts than I would have liked but still liked it. I also got the Thai Place appetizer platter. What better way to experiment. I liked just about everything on the platter. The dumplings were amazing, I'll get these again for sure. The Chicken Satay was also great with the peanut sauce. The crispy chicken had crack in it I think because I couldn't get enough of them. Loved the pork ravioli. I wasn't a big fan of the spring rolls but thats ok, everything else was so good I can forgive that. The service was awesome. I had it delivered and they told me 45 minutes and it only took a half hour. I can't wait to go back!

Thai Place is practically on speed dial whenever we're in the mood for some Thai delivery. It's a cute, no-frills place to eat, too, if you're passing by. The food is consistently good and delivery is super speedy, often clocking in at 15-20 minutes!

  • Nick C.

This place is so unprofessional. Ordered from them at 6:00pm, nothing showed up by 7:30 so I called them. They said they had tried to deliver and I didn't answer. There were 3 people home and not a single person heard the buzzer. They then said they would send out a new order....8:30 roles around and I call them again. They inform me that they have cancelled my order. Not once was there a knock on the door or a buzzer rang (can be heard throughout the ENTIRE apartment builder). Do not go to this place, they are scum bags.

This was the Thai place I went to when I moved to Brighton last year. I loved it, but since sometimes their delivery is slow, I went onto Yelp to find another place in my area that I could use as an alternate. I didn't really find anything else, and all the glowing reviews for Thai Place convinced me that I had it right the first time - so what if you have to wait an extra 15 minutes? (Though the other night I waited an hour and 15 minutes for my delivery that they said would be there in 45 minutes - the guy said he got lost, but it still bumps my rating down from 5 stars to 4) The food is excellent, and the portions are large. I often have leftover for the next day. My favorites are the Pad Thai with Crispy Chicken, the pan-seared dumplings, and a Thai Iced Tea. My boyfriend always gets the Cashew Chicken, it's a little spicy for me, but he loves it.

Talk about bang for your buck, this Place has the best Thai food in the whole city and costs half the price. When I lived in Brighton I would get Tum Yum Soup, Thai Rolls and one of their great selection of crispy chicken dishes delivered at least once a week by their super friendly drivers. Plus you can never go wrong with a Thai Iced Tea. The only problem with Thai Place is the tiny dining in area, which is fine in the summertime but gets freezing cold in the winter.

Great Thai food in Allston/Brighton area -- delivery fee sucks, but the food is good, so I suck it up.

I tried ordering in from them recently and was quite impressed with the food. As opposed to the other reviewers, it came very fast for me. Later I went to the actual restaurant and tried it out. The restaurant itself is very small and decor is a bit drab, but the service makes up for these downsides. However, the food quality and presentation matches some of the best Thai restaurants I have been to, if not better. Good portions and well spiced. So far I have had the Mango Curry and the Crispy Chicken Basil, and I really liked both. I also tried various appetizers like the scallion pancakes (the peanut sauce that comes with it is superior to other places), the cheese triangles, and some steamed dumplings. Although I liked all three, I would recommend the scallion pancakes over the others. This place is definitely worth going to if you like Thai food.

We LOVE the thai place...we live in brookline and so far it is the best we have tried (yes, including dok bua). Good value, and the delivery always comes hot and fresh. My fave is the drunken noodle, and the coconut soup is excellent. I've never had a bad meal here. Be warned that delivery takes a loooonnngg time; but its worth it

I saw this place on the way home from work and it was somewhat of a casual drop-in. Absolutely loved the place. There weren't many people there as the service was spectacular and the food was outstanding. I was sure to give my compliments to the chef.
