I've seen this place a million times but decided to stop by and get some to-go food while at work. I ordered two burgers, one a Mississippi bleu for my boyfriend and the other a NOLA for myself. I requested for jalapenos, mustard and bell peppers to be added to the bleu but I was told that they don't carry jalapenos or mustard but that they can put Creole mustard on the side. So I get the food and I make it back to work and they forgot to add the bell peppers and didn't put the mustard on the side....this one was for my bf and he like, lives on mustard so I was peeved. I wasn't aware that my burger came on French bread cut po-boy style. I mean, I get the concept..Nola is known for po boys..but the burger is only so big and then you're left with a lot of extra bread...it was just weird. Burgers were peppery but didn't have much flavor. All in all, it was okay. Wouldn't return.

A really pleasant surprise! The Westbank has so few choices for eating compared to the eastbank. The fried goat cheese app wad enough for four stars all by itself, the jack burger was just okay but nit bad by any means. The iced tea was AMAZING! The only thing that wasn't perfect was the service. The hostess was kinda bitchy and when we paid our check the bill was $55, we put in $100. The waitress opened it up and asked if we needed change! Uh yeA!

Located right next to Ochsner hospital on Belle Chasse hwy...if you're ever in the area...its a go to place for lunch or dinner. Its located in a pretty decent size strip mall that makes great for parking. I so miss the Warehouse District location, but I work on the Westbank so I can get my fix of the amazing things on the menu when I don't bring my lunch or need to get out of the office. 10-12 table tops and bar seating, means there's usually not a wait time...and if so its typically 10-15 minutes. Sometimes longer and I'll explain why. The wait staff is amazing and management is always on site so that's a plus. Its the kitchen that seems to be kinda hit or miss. Henceforth the varying wait times. Like one fellow yelper mentioned, if you're pressed for time then its a toss up of whether or not you'll be back to work in an hour. The kitchen seems slow most times, but that hasn't stopped me from coming back. On to the food..... Some of my favorite items in no particular order are.... Pecan crusted chicken salad. Chicken is always juicy, and is crusted with a sweet pecan topping. Served with Romaine, cabbage, carrots, onions and cheese and honey mustard dressing. You won't be mad if you order this. Dueling Tomato & Shrimp salad. Really is much of a salad, but its DAMN good. Served with fried green tomatoes, topped with shrimp, corn, bacon and field greens and some yummy dressing. You won't even be concerned why they call it a salad. Shrimp crab and olive pasta is my "I'm not doing any work when I get back to lunch meal". As I seem to have to eat then entire thing and can NEVER save any for later. Its salty, fresh, seafood goodness on a bed of pasta Thai ribs...are giving Zea's a run for their money. Must get the mango coconut rice as a side to go with. The burritos and fish tacos are always a go to when you can't decide. Stay on the lookout for meals of the day. Always something new and innovative that'll tempt you to try it. And the servings are pretty decent size.

BEWARE!!!! I ordered the snapper San Pedro, when I got the bill, it ruined my meal. The fish was $44.00. I can't see paying this much for lunch especially for fish that had a fishy smell and flavor. The servers should advise the guests of the "market price" ahead of time. When returned home I called to be sure it wasn't a mistake. Coming from the food industry, I don't like to complain. However, Denise, whom I spoke with, her attitude was bothersome and careless. Needless to say, if I'm going to pay $44.00 for fish, I want it to be the best meal I've had!!! NOT!!! The new owner TOM should train his staff to advise people of prices up front and to be compassionate when a customer calls.

Considering that I live literally down the street from this place, it's amazing I have never been here until today. I always passed it and I guess I assumed that it was just a little dinky cafe. Uh...I was wrong. I stopped in today for lunch. There was no wait and I was quickly seated. I had sneaked a peek of the menu online, and to my amazement, I saw that they have a Cuban sandwich! I have been searching for a freaking Cuban sandwich on the Westbank for YEARS! I decided to get the Cubano and I had the jalapeño cheese grits as my side. I thought I would go a little exotic and a little Southern for lunch today. The sandwich was so good and did not disappoint. It was the right kind of bread and pressed to perfection. It could have used a BIT more mustard (I'm a freak for the stuff), but other than that it was a winner. The grits were good as well. Nice and creamy and not spicy at all with a lot of flavor. I also liked that I got a big portion of them and I had enough leftovers for a nice munch later on. Another thing I noticed that this place has margaritas that aren't made from a mix- something else I have been scouring the Westbank for! I didn't get one today, but I will definitely go back and try one, as they are only $5- "all day, every day" is what it says on the menu. Also, on Wednesday nights bottled wine is 20% off. What a little gem of a place this turned out to be! I will absolutely go back and explore more of the menu.

I tried this place out with a friend during lunch time. It is definitely a prime location since the hospital is right next door, so there were a lot of nurses and doctors in there. The ambience is a sort of classy feel and kind of busy, so be prepared to be there for a while. For an appetizer, we ordered the spinach and artichoke dip. It was a little expensive for a tiny bowl, but it was the best dip I've ever had. I should have just ordered another one as my meal! Our lunch entrée came out and it was just okay. I can't remember the name, but it was shrimp in a sweet sauce and coconut rice. I wasn't really a big fan, but the food was kinda out of my element. Overall, the service was okay, the entrées the same, the prices were a high, but the dip is phenomenal. I will give it another try, but will definitely order something different.

I said I would never return, but here I am writing an update to Sun Ray. I only went back because my coworkers were already going. I arrived at noon to get a table for five. There was no wait and the dining room was roughly 60% full. We ordered at 12:10 and did not get our lunch delivered until 12:45. This makes sticking to a lunch "hour" pretty difficult. I ended up having my lunch brought out to me in a go box with my check. Our server was quite sweet and very quick to keep our drinks full. However, there was no sense of urgency to get us our lunch despite me telling her I was in a hurry when I ordered. So, suffice it to say, I am still not a fan of Sun Ray Grill. I would be remiss if I did not mention my meal, however. I ordered the burrito. It was pretty good.

Five stars! Always a delicious satisfying meal. The specials are always great to try. Two sesame tuna is an old favorite of mine. Fresh!! Great service and convenient West Bank location. I've had the breakfast twice and really enjoyed that (good strong coffee).

After being temporarily "cheeseburger restaurant-less", since Sun Ray on Annunciation Street closed down; we decided to try this location. The menu is very, very similar. We had "shrimp tempura", cole slaw, & a big cheeseburger. All were very, very good ! Having read others' posts; let me add: If you are in a restaurant which is "new" to you, you've got to read the menu. The owner does "travel the World", as someone said, and does use some innovative combinations. I have found all of this small local chain's locations to be flexible with customer preferences. Sun Ray lives on ! Rick

I'm addict of them and if there is a support group to get me away from this vice, please tell where it is so I can go in the opposite direction. Always good food and good service. Usually the owner is around and comes to the table to say hi and check on you. Great, inexpensive, filling with healthy options....we will go back

I was happy to discover this Belle Chasse lunch option on the healthier side. Both myself and my guest enjoyed the grilled chicken salad wrap. I chose to have my wrap with the fresh fruit and my guest enjoyed his wrap with the sweet potato fried. The chicken was juicy and the dressing, absolutely delicious! I will certainly recommend it to other working in Belle Chasse,

One of the better restaurants on the Westbank. Good spot for a business lunch. It is just nice enough, service is good and the menu is really varied. The Portebello fries appetizer is excellent and they make a good burger. Because the menu is so diverse, they can accommodate virtually any taste. They are close to a hospital, so they can get a little busy but I've never had to wait more than a few minutes. I can't put my finger on why, but Sun Ray just isn't as good for dinner. I think I'm just used to them for lunch (usually for work) and so dinner seems a little underwhelming. My wife also doesn't care for their wine list. Interesting bit of info (that may or may not be true): My boss says the owner started traveling the world a few years ago. Ever since then, he started putting some different and interesting dishes from around the world. My boss doesn't like it, but just because they took off some stuff he really liked. It is like they always say: Sun Ray giveth, and Sun Ray taketh away.

This is like my fourth time eating here - once was carry out . The food is pretty consistently good so far and the menu is varied nicely without being overwhelming like a lot of places that try too hard to please everyone . They have a nice range of burgers that are fairly delicious and I'm a real critic of burgers . You'll always hear how good such and such's burgers are and then I try it and I'm almost always disappointed . Here you shouldn't be on this point or most others . I 've had a wrap , a burger , , the cuban and, the other day , the thai bbq chicken which was also very good . So you're wondering why 3 stars ? I probably give the food 4 solid stars but its some of the other things I hate to nit pick about but they're consistently annoying . The kitchen is right out in the open so you're not left wondering about the stories you hear about kitchens . The entire area under the counter where they work is filthy . It's hard to not sit by the kitchen either unless you're on the other end of the dining room . I like to sit at the bar usually where there are fewer people but here it's a trade off . Fewer people means sitting by the kitchen which isn't going to stop me from going back probably . I'll more likely do carry out in the future . The other thing is this and maybe it's nothing to you - it really isn't much to me either but this time it was noticeable . Maybe because they were slow ? The cooks were carrying on about some topic they got into andin a very vocal and braggadocious manner . I have to say they sounded like elementary school drop outs trying to impress one another with their supposed vast knowledge about football . I think they stopped just short of cursing openly . I turned around and looked which I shouldn't have done I suppose and one of them gave me a glare . Man , if looks could kill ! I think this is what bothered me the most hence the medium rating . I also think if you're going to have the kitchen out in the open then you'd better follow the glass houses analogy and keep the area spotless . I still recommend this place as the wait staff has always been professional and the food is pretty good and -let's face it - there aren't that many good places to eat on the west bank .

Innovative cuisine, always consistently flavorful with a delightfully eclectic menu. One of the finest lunch hotspots on the Westbank. My friends and I have been eating here for years and I don't think we've ever eaten a bad meal. Wait staff are polite and courteous. This is a must try restaurant.

Overpriced and average. I have eaten here 3 times and always leave feeling I cheated myself of a good meal somewhere else.

I ate the Mississippi Blue Burger, and it was okay. But everyone else food was good. I gave it a 3 star bc the service was horrible. Our waiter suck ass and the managers look like ass and was an asshole to. I would come back but probably for take out.

Unbelievably great meal! We just moved into the condo building nextdoor, and we can't believe this is in our backyard. I had the crabcake salad, which was delicious, and my husband got the flank steak special with andouille sausage mashed potatoes that should be illegal they were so good. Plus their infused tequila margaritas aren't to be missed. And our server Ben was charming. We'll be back!!!

Overpriced for below avg quality. The thai chicken and coconut rice are best things on menu. Burgers are often overcooked. Not worth the price.

I have been to Sun Ray's so many times that it has become somewhat of a running joke in my family. Whenever we get together, and someone asks "What do y'all want to eat?" Someone will inevitably say, "We know Brooke wants Sun Ray's." I grew up on the West Bank of New Orleans' metro area, so I know how rare a good restaurant is over there. Sun Ray is a welcome addition to the sometimes frustrating restaurant scene (or lack there of) on the West Bank. It's casual, there's hardly ever a wait for a table and the food is delicious. The menu is somewhat extensive, which, depending on your personality, could be a good or bad thing. For appetizers, I suggest the Spring Rolls, Spinach and Artichoke Dip, or my favorite, the Crawfish Bruschetta. I'm also a huge fan of the burgers. All of them are good, but I usually go for the Malibu Burger, mainly because it comes with bacon and guacamole... two of my favorite food groups. And if you prefer something a little more exotic than the traditional fries, go for the sweet potato fries. YUM! In the interest of full discloure... Side note: Last time I went, I ordered my burger medium rare. It came to me well done. I politely sent it back and they graciously remade my order to my satisfaction. If you're looking for something a little lighter, try the salads or the fish. My mom swears by the Ipanema salad. I've tasted it, so I can attest to its deliciousness. Lastly, if margaritas are your thing, you HAVE to get one of the El Presidente Margaritas. I'm pretty sure it's top shelf, so it's a little pricier than some of the other drinks, but it is one of the best margaritas I have ever had. For the price, you get a nice-sized glass. So, you would probably be fine with one. Unless you've had a particularly hard day; then, I'd say, "Drink Up!"

Creative, eclectic menu. I like the option of fruit to fries, though a bit more effort could be made on the fruit variety. However the entrees are varied and the effort is clear. Seems like a lifetime spent collecting dish ideas around the world is distilled into their menu. Thai burritos, quesadillas, burgers are fantastic, salads (especially the specials i've had so far) are excellent.
