I'm from Texas where the norm is authentic Mexican food all over the place, as opposed to Slidell where the norm is seafood of course. So it is nice to have a place nearby to remind me of home. Love the chips and salsa. Nicely done with fresh chips. The first time I ordered mini tacos (I don't know if that is what they are called on the menu) and they were pretty good, nice little snack as it is a small portion. I also split some of the carne asade chimichanga my boyfriend got which we both thought was fantastic. Definitely big enough to split with two people in addition to the chips and salsa. So the next time we came we ordered it again and again it was great. The second time we decided to order nachos as well as an appetizer and they were no bueno. The cheese was cold and hard as if they had sat for a while or were cooked on for too long. The chips were also too chewy also a sign of either sitting or being cooked too long because the chips with the chips and salsa were perfectly fine. We didn't eat them and the management took them off the bill so that was nice. Service both times were great. Cute little ladies and a man who seemed pretty cool. Owner maybe? Nice place to hang out when the weather is nice. They have outside patio tables. Even if the weather isn't nice, the inside area has a fun hangout atmosphere as well.

This place stays open really late! They ALWAYS have awesome drink specials. Like Tuesday nights I think it's $2 margaritas. I'm not absolutely sure but everyday they have really good specials/happy hour. The food is really good here. And the salsa is spicey!!! Service is alright as well. They know their regulars! Try it out and you'll enjoy it too!!!

  • Chris J.

Food here is fantastic! Everything tastes fresh! I love the homemade tortilla chips with cheese dip here. Even the salsa is made fresh. I always get the "big a$$ burrito" for my entree :) Other delicious items include the totra and the fish tacos, but I primarily get the burrito.

This place is meh. The chips and salsa are pretty good and I got my first fish tacos ever at this place and they were alright, but I swear, the best hing on the menu are their fries. That's it. I go to Tacos and Beer for Fries and Beer. Their beers are large, though, and are fairly cheap. I used to get a burrito whenever we were out partying in the Dell, but not anymore, man. I'm ALWAYS disappointed when I get their Big Ass burrito. Yeah, ti's big in size, but not on taste. They should call it Big Ass BLAND burrito. Their house hot sauce sucks as well. It's just too damn hot and lacks any sort of flavoring. That's my big gripe with this place. Where's the flavor?!?! My friends all like it though. I honestly don't know why. To each his own, I guess. I don't eat here. I get a beer here every now and then while my friends eat. I'd rather pick up something on the way home, and if I absolutely HAVE to eat something, I get their fries. That's the best thing on their menu. Seriously, their fries, ROCK and account for an entire star in this review. The other star is for their beer and their $1 fee ATM. At the bar, their service is usually pretty friendly and fast, but not if that dick of a manager is working. They have one guy who is just UNPLEASANT. Period. Why is he even still employed there? He must be the proprietor or something because I can think of no other reason why such an unpleasant person would still be working in the customer service industry.

I know tacos and on the Gulf Coast, these are the best tacos I have found. We had the Mako shark taco (**** stars) a blackened strip of succulent shark with cabbage, pico and a chipotle sauce. Next was the lengua taco (***** stars) so moist and tender, it was almost a sin to put any salsa and lemon on it, but thats how I do. The chips and salsa are much more original than I am used to and the service was excellent. My biggest complaint is that I am 45 minutes from this place and cant get it in on my regular lunch rotation.

Sam and Martin were amazing best bar tenders ever I would recommend this place to everyone. Had a really great time best time in Slidell

By far one of my favorites! My boyfriend and I always go here and got to know all the employees and owners who are amazing! The atmosphere... 5 stars hands down. They always have great music, lots of people and amazing food! We always get the steak nachos and it's enough to fill us both just sharing it! Also taco Tuesday is where it's at! I always pay a little more and get the flour tortilla and add cheese and sour cream but the original is amazing too! Honestly, on a week night or the weekend... It's a go to! Trust me! We love it

Great food and service at a reasonable price. Only downside was the drunk people creeping in from outside and causing a disturbance. Will definitely continue business to-go, however!

Agree with Gil. The fish tacos are great. The staff has always been kind to me and my wife as well.

Ehh...I was less than impressed with Tacos and Beer. Located in Slidell's Olde Town neighborhood is about the only thing about it that is charming, it's location. The service was slow and a little snooty. There was no one else in the restaurant on the two occasions that I visited, so the slow service was perplexing. It took and really long time to get my drinks and even longer for the food to arrive. The chips and salsa were ok, but nothing to write home about. I ordered the fish tacos (grilled) and while they were ok, again, nothing exciting. I had to add a ton of hot sauce to them to give them any flavor at all really. They do have drink specials and $1 tacos on Tuesday nights. I don't think I would go for that even though it's a pretty good deal, if that gives you any idea on how meh this place is.

  • Lisa G.

Ok I do not know what all the hype is about with this place. I had been hearing so much about it and honestly never got around to trying it. So I decided to go on taco Tuesday... Big mistake. Firstly, the service was awful. Second, the meat on all the different tacos we tried was just not good. And the carne asada tasted like the meat was old. Third, the margaritas- I really think Margs from a grocery mix would taste better. :( disappointed. Sorry tacos n beer but I don't think I will be back.

Most authentic Mexican food that I have ever had in Louisiana! The Barbacoa is my absolute favorite thing! On a regular taco or on the Big A$$ Burrito! It's always amazing! Their chips and salsa are great as well and I always have to order some White Cheese Queso Dip with it! Best Queso everrr! Love this place!

  • Nastasia V.

Not what you expect looking from the outside... Located in old town Slidell this place is definitely a good find! Very friendly and attentive staff! Prices are great! Food is very tasteful and seasoned very well! Not your typical tex mex spot, they serve some authentic Mexican style tacos! I ordered an array of tacos to try them out and was not disappointed one bit! I cleaned that plate and was extremely satisfied after! I had the al pastor, chicken, shredded beef, and shrimp tacos and they were all delicious! I found out that on Tuesdays they have $1 tacos so I will probably be there every week for that great deal!!!

  • Gil M.

The fish tacos were outstanding and the service was equally good! I will definitely be back! They are rewriting their menu so I expect some clever names and tasty food!

I ordered takeout Baja Tacos and a side of chips and salsa. The food looked great. There were no napkins or plastic ware in the bag; however, they give you a side salad with it. The tacos were fresh but didn't have enough flavor to me. I'm originally from Southern California so I've had my share of Mexican food. The chips and salsa were great. Chips fried hard and salsa has a kick. I ended up pouring some of the salsa on the tacos. Maybe I'll try a burrito next time. The staff was friendly.

  • C P.

Just as it is named: tacos and beer. They are good at what they do. Probably the best "mexican" food in town. Prices are pretty good. They also have different specials throughout the week. When you are done go across the street to the old time ice cream shop for dessert.

  • Amanda B.

My boyfriend and I are in love with this place! Amazing food! Friendley service, and a fun environment. We will gladly drive 30 mins to eat here! The portions are large and way more than you can eat in one sitting. We have been here a few times and haven't had a single complaint! We have definitely been recommending this place to everyone we know! Eat here! It is the most delicious choice you will ever make :)

  • Lauren L.

Overall, I was a little disappointed. The margaritas are way too sweet... plus, I'm a fan of fresh cocktails and they definitely had a syrupy taste. Don't get me wrong, I'm not high-maintenance when it comes to frozen margs, but it really didn't taste good :( The food was mediocre; I liked the fresh salsa....but the rest wasn't mind-blowing. The service wasn't great. We were one of three tables... No hello when our waiter approached the table... No water in addition to our drinks... No check back to see how our food was... Bottom line, there are much better places in the area for Mexican.

I've been to Tacos and Beer in Slidell a few times. Each visit the both the food and service have been above average. The Tacos Dorados are good, but could be a bit spicier-you really need to add some salsa to give them a kick. The Big Ass Burrito lives up to its name and is the size of a small island nation.

Went just last Tuesday for taco Tuesday. They weren't very busy, meaning there were at least 4 open tables. My family & I had a seat. Not one person acknowledged us. A few servers kept walking past & "looking" at us as if we were aliens. I've been here many, many times since they opened a few years back. When we asked if someone could help us, a guy yelled at us and said they were busy!!! Well, I guess too busy for my family. They've been sucking in service for the past year. I only kept returning cuz the food is good. But the food has started sucking too. So now this place OFFICIALLY SUCKS!!! Seriously, don't waste your time, folks.

Great food and prices! We ordered three soft tacos, one grilled fish, one shredded chicken, and one carna asada. All three were delicious! We also ordered the carna asada entre and it was so flavorful, a tad to salty but still yummy. I wanted to get an order to go. We will be back.

Tacos and Beer left me underwhelmed. Maybe I should have had the tacos, at least the beer was good. The standard basket of chips and salsa was good and bad. The chips really could have been fresher; they tasted a little stale. The salsa however was fantastic. It was smooth and had a great kick to it. It made me forget about the lackluster chips. For dinner I decided to go with a torta because I love those damn sandwiches. And, because it's available on the menu, I ordered the lingua. That's right, tongue. It's freaking delicious. My sandwich was ok but had some flaws in execution. I didn't see any avocado and barely any sour cream. The bottom bun could have been toasted better and the lingua drained more to keep the bottom from being soggy. Also I had two long, rectangular cuts of queso in the sandwich. We're talking 1/2" x 1/2" bars of cheese about 4" long, like they were just cut off a thin block. The result was bites with no cheese followed by bites with LOTS of cheese. Despite these flaws the sandwich was quite tasty. The plate was rounded out with some "pickled vegetables". It got two large pickled jalapenos and some thin sliced onion rings. I would have preferred less peppers and more other veg. I'd go again, maybe the kitchen had an off day. The taste was there, they just need to work on presentation and composition a little more.

Beer was cold and the carnitas tacos were wonderful. Service was pretty decent. I'll give them another try.

Tacos and Beer is just that. Tacos and beer. The tacos are small, but cheap. Also they have a great variety of meats to choose from.

The wife wanted Mexican the other night, so we checked this place out since it was somewhere we had not been. Heard it was good, so we went in expecting greatness. I left a bit underwhelmed. We walked in and the place was not very crowded. We grabbed a table and got menus fairly quickly. We ordered drinks that were brought, then they also brought us chips and salsa. The chips were on the thick side, and not warm, I would have preferred they open a bag of Tostitos or something. The salsa though was good and spicy IMO. The waitress told us she'd be right back with a pad to take our dinner order, but then ended up talking with the people at a table nearby. Why didn't she take our order, THEN go talk to the people at the table? Once the food came, we still had beer bottles and the chips and salsa stuff on the table. Does a waitress normally need to be notified to clear stuff off a table? The food was good though, I liked the fish tacos. I have to admit, Winos and Tacos in Covington may do them slightly better, but not by much. We finished our dinners and got the bill. We were fortunate to be sitting at a table large enough to stack two plates, a beer bottle, a wine glass, two margarita glasses, a chips basket, and two salsa containers on it, while also being able to fill out the receipt. I know service can vary, and sometimes if a place is crowded, it gets really busy, but this place was not, the girl just didn't do a very good job. The decor of the place is kind of weird too. I know it's Tacos and Beer, but it made me feel like I was eating tacos at a dive bar rather than drinking beer at a taco place. Tacos comes first in the name. They also had one of those futuristic jukeboxes on the wall things that kind of took away from the vibe. So in summary, the decor is a little weird, the service stinks, but the food's good. It won't blow your mind or anything, but it makes for a good night out.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
