My new favorite place! Slidell is hiding a wonderful gem on fremaux that I am sure so many people just pass up! My bf and I went for dinner and had such an awesome experience. It's a little hole in the wall with ethnic family service and cuisine. We had the tamale appetizer along with two great entrees, topped off with the best espresso I have ever had! This place is a must if you are tired of the same creole menus all around town

My wife and love this place, the food is delicious! Their tamales are awesome, the sweet plantains are soooo good! The list goes on.

My husband Robert Suarez and I love this place. It has the most authenic Cuban food. Greta service too!

This is some of the best food in all of Slidell. I wish this place would give lessons to some of the other "restaurants" in the area. The service and food were impeccable! We make it a point to go here once a month if not more. We've never had a bad meal here.

Great spot, we ordered cortaditos, Cuban expresso coffees, amazing. They tasted as if you ordered them straight from a shop from Little Havana in Miami. We tried the Bistec and Pernil sandwich. The Bistec came with Maduros (sweet plantains), rice and black beans. Pernil sandwich was alone but plenty of lean meat and little to no fat, deliciousness! Both we're filling and prepared as if you had visited a Cuban relative's kitchen. Will definitely go back and try more of the menu, even if just for a cortadito.

So amazing! Family owned, Authentic Cuban food in Louisiana. Make sure you get the tostones with mojo, the Cuban meatloaf, chicken fricase, or mojo chicken with plantains, sweet potatoes and rice and black beans!! I will be back again for sure!

Place was fantastic, best place I've eaten at in slidell. Flan cheesecake is a must try. Will be coming back frequently!!

Their food is very good. Their portions are plenty. The service was great. The only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars is because they need someone to do a deep clean in the restaurant. The fans are in desperate need of cleaning. The restaurant is not filthy by no means or we would have not eaten. The place just needs some TLC

  • Ali C.

The black beans and rice were very good, tostones delicious. Chicken soup was home made and good, maduros could be browner, but were tasty. Service a bit slow because the restaurant was full to the brim. Coffee with milk was outstanding.

Food is authentic and absolutly delicious everytime we go. Hidden gem!!

Get the Cuban expresso! It is soooo good! The green plantains with dipping sauce and Cuban sandwich were fabulous! If I did not live in another state, I would eat here 3 times a week! While I am here I want to come back for supper, also!

The food and service is always great. The Cuban Sandwich is amazing, as well as everything we have tried on the menu. Favorite Cuban Cafe.

I grew up in South Florida so I think I know good Cuban food when I have it... The restaurant's name answers all of your questions about the food here! I could go on and on, but just go try it for yourself. I'm personally looking forward to an expanded menu. They have all the requsite Cuban staples right now though. Add some cabrito and I'll find a way to make my review six stars! The outside doesn't scream high quality when you pull into the parking lot and I'm now fond of sitting outside in the quaint seating. Brought to your table will be really outstanding Cuban food and service! I even saw Chef John Besh eating there.... Go for it!!!

The best Cuban food I've ever had! This is a small, hole in the wall but don't let that deter you . This place more than makes up for the ambiance and the waiters are so helpful and fun. My sons and I even got up and danced to the Cuban music while we waited for our food. We will definitely be back!!

Just ate at Que Rico Cuban Cafe for the first time while traveling through Slidell. A small place, but the food was amazing! Shrimp Criolla for me and Chicken Fricase for my hubby. Delicious!

After a road trip full of traditional southern food Que Rico was a welcome change of pace. The beans and rice are flavorful, the plantains (Maduro) delicious and the pressed Cuban sandwich both excellent and big enough to share. Be sure and save room for the cafe con leche (w/ sugar caramelized by the owner herself). I'd been missing Seattle espresso and this cafecito was a taste of heaven!

Stopped here on our way to Lafayette and could not have been happier. We are a vegetarian family, so our options were somewhat limited, but everything we had was excellent: plantains, black beans and rice, cabbage salad and THE COFFEE!! I usually don't do coffee after 9am, but boy am I glad I made an exception! The cortadito and cafe con leche were so rich and delectable, I really wished I had ordered another two to go. The service was warm and friendly, and food was on the table within 10 minutes--a blessing when you're eating out with children. If you're passing anywhere near this place, it is absolutely worth a visit.

Awesome. First time eating Cuban, but it can't all be this good or there would be a Cuban restaurant on every corner. A new favorite!

This is such a hidden gem! The food is extremely fresh and delicious. Service is good and waitstaff will explain any of the dishes. My favorites are the Cuban sandwich and ropa veija. The plantains are soo good we always fight over them. When i go to Slidell this is the only place i wanna eat now!!

I finally made time to check out this place after reading so many rave reviews. Que Rico Cuban did not disappoint. The outside is not spectacular, but the food and service is excellent. When you walk in you can either dine in or get your food to-go. I opted to get my food to-go. The sounds of spanish music was playing while I waited for my food. I ordered the Tamal which was topped with pork and mojo sauce. This was my first time trying a tamal and it was delicious and flavorful. My entrée was the palomilla steak which was seasoned to perfection and topped with sautéed onions. The entrée comes with black beans and rice and plantains the combination of the beans and rice with the plantains is indescribable but it was really tasty. The person who took my order was friendly and very helpful with the menu. I recommend trying Que Rico Cuban I will most definitely return.

My new favorite place to eat! It has everything I look for, amazing food, friendly staff and a down home feel. If you love Cuban food, this is a must try! My husband had the tamales which were some of the best I have ever had, and I had the pork dinner which was served with beans and rice and plantains. I highly recommend both of these dishes. We finished with a cafe con leche and honestly we cannot find anything negative about our experience at que Rico. We will be regulars at this place! The prices are great, our bill was less than 30$. This is a total steal considering the quality of food. In need of a new spot for that Friday night dinner? Que Rico will not disappoint

I love love love finding hidden, quaint neighborhood restaurants/cafes family-owned and operated like Que Rico! Granted I was on the prowl looking for a mid-afternoon caffeine fix, but I am glad to have decided to stop in while running errands around town. The atmosphere is inviting and welcoming- almost homey-like feel to the place. Service was friendly with a smile even though I wasn't ordering lunch. I ordered the cafe con leche and the guava cheese pastry. The cafe con leche was solid, sweet and potent, as was expected. And the guava cheese pastry was such a treat along with the cafe con leche. The pastry was flaky and buttery, and was complemented well by the guava-cheese filling. I am such a big fan of tropical fruits like guava because it makes me think that I'm relaxing on a beach. There was a family dining nearby and the food looked and smelled delicious. I had no idea what they ordered but it smelled alot like roasted pork. I have to make it a point to come dine here the next time I am in the area. Based on previous reviews, Que Rico is a local Yelp favorite.

A small, nondescript plaza with a tiny restaurant on the corner. Decent parking and friendly employees. The prices are a little higher than what we are used to for similar items at other Cuban places we've been to. However, the food is tasty and hot. Great roast pork, black beans and rice. Decent Cuban sandwich. Kids meals are a large portion. Legit café con leche. My husband has been to Cuba twice and said the food here is on par with the authentic stuff. Being from Florida, we know Cuban food pretty well and this is a close second. Great little, find in Louisiana of all places.

I had the Cuban Sandwich and Maduros. Cuban Sandwich- Flavor was amazing! The pork was a touch dry when you eat it separately from the sandwich but I didn't noticed it with everything else going on. Not too much mustard not too little, lots of Cubans miss out on this key point. The bread wasn't toasted long enough in my opinion. The top of the bread started falling apart in my hand. These are very particular critiques and isn't meant to insult the establishment but to help them with their flaws. Do not get me wrong this is one of the greatest Cubans I've ever had, even better than 95% of what I've had in Miami. Please come here and get this sandwich. Maduros- WOW, spot on. Caramelization was literately unreal. Very well done. Cafe Con Leche- made with espresso, the "leche" was sweetened French Vanilla creamer powder. GROSS. I asked for the coffee to be unsweetened. I usually drink my coffee black but cuban coffee is amazing and cafe con leche is no exception. Docked a star for the bread of the sandwich falling apart and one star for ruining the cafe con leche. I will be coming back and checking out the rest of their menu while I'm out here for work and will update my review accordingly.

The food is amazing - you can taste the heart and soul in everything they make. We are partial to the one tamal platter and the lechon. Great food, great atmosphere - we will keep coming back for more! Prices are incredibly reasonable and the portions are large.

Que Rico is absolutely, positively amazing! I am a Cuban Sandwich fanatic. I have been, and am still, on a quest for the best Cuban Sandwich in the metropolitan area. So when a good friend told me about Que Rico, I added it to my list. It did take me a few tries before finally getting to try the food though. My first visit they were closed because they didn't have any bread. My second visit was on a Monday, and they're closed on Mondays. Needless to say, when I finally did get to visit, the anticipation had built so high that I was about to explode. Since that trip I have been numerous other times. It is so good that I would gladly eat there Tuesday through Saturday for lunch and dinner. Here is what I have learned on my visits: Service While service can be a bit quirky at times, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The quirks have involved forgetting a drink or messing up the order, but they always make it right. Food The food here is phenomenal, but the Cuban Sandwich is not the star. I have tried the Cuban Sandwich three times. Each time I found it incredibly flavorful, but somewhat dry. That problem was easily remedied by the addition of some of the homemade habanero sauce, but i would like it moist from the get go. Maybe they could put a little of their mojo sauce in the same way they coat the pork on the tamals. Speaking of tamals, I find it to be an absolute necessity to start my meal with a solo tamal. I am not normally a fan of the tamales I get around town, but their version is stellar. It comes topped with pork, onions and their mojo sauce. That pork is so good that I would gladly punch someone in the face if it meant I could have more of it. Luckily for me, no punching was necessary and on my next visit I ordered the pork platter. That platter came with a heaping portion of the pork, which is most likely the best pork I have ever eaten. Are you getting what I am saying. The pork is beyond belief good. Stop reading this and go eat some. It is that good. The other item on the menu that I would like to gush about is their chicken breast sandwich. How they were able to make that chicken so juicy and tasty is beyond me, but it is my favorite sandwich on their menu. I don't know if I would punch someone in the face for more, but it is pretty dern good. The last item I would like to gush about is their homemade habanero sauce. Whatever you order, make sure they bring you some. If you like it like I do, you can buy a jar. The jar is somewhat expensive at $8.99, but that jar only lasted three days at my house. I out it in everything from nachos, to sandwiches. Location The location is a bit sketchy. Depending on the time I have visited there have been some shady people roaming around. Que Rico has quickly become one of my top five favorite restaurants. Although it may be far from where you are, it is worth the drive.

In town visiting from Northern California and found this gem on a yelp search. Fantastic food. Friendly service. Unassuming decor (a plus in my book). They make everything in house from the slow cooked meat, to the habanero salsa, to the guava and cheese pastry. The Cuban sandwich is by far the best I've ever had. Save room for the amazing coffee and desserts!

Where have you been all my life, Que Rico Cuban Cafe? I really feel like the luckiest girl in the world to have you. You have ruined me for every other cafe in Slidell. This restaurant is AMAZING. It is in a really dinky strip mall and doesn't look too appealing from the outside, but trust me. It is seriously awesome. I smile the entire time I'm in here and even have been known to dance a little to the great Latin American music playing. The food is so great and the Cuban espresso is delicious. The Pork Tamal appetizer is so tender and explodes with flavor. You need to have this in your mouth. Really. The pressed Mojo Chicken sandwich is soooooo good. It's got the most delicious and tender chicken topped with really thinly sliced grilled onions. Order that for sure. I doubt you could go wrong with anything on the menu. Everything is really great! Oh, and the icing on the cake? It's extremely inexpensive. I love it, love it, love it. You will too.

The best Cuban food I have ever had and that is really saying something. The Cuban tamale was absolutely fantastic and the lechón asado was out of this world. I didn't have a chance to try anything else yet, but I will definitely be back to try some more. If you are in Slidell or within reasonable driving distance (I came from Gulfport), I highly recommend it!! It is worth every mile and every penny! Riquísimo!!!

Great find. This place is such a refreshing change from the norm. Small family owned and operated in a small center. Nothing fancy if your looking for that type of place. I prefer good food over atmosphere. Very easy to find. Prices are reasonable and portions adequate. Roasted pork is flavorful. Platters come with beans, rice and plantains. Will definitely return to try something else.

In town for work for my husband and wanted to try something different for dinner. We found this place on Yelp and agree with all of the positive reviews that it is pretty awesome. It certainly isn't the prettiest place, but that shouldn't deter anyone from trying them. We started with an order of croquetas- we tried both the chicken and the ham. We couldn't tell which was which, lol, but they were both really good. Both came with a garlic dipping sauce. I got the flank steak sandwich. I don't remember the name but it translated to "Old Clothes". This was a really, REALLY good sandwich. Simple but outstanding. It came with a tomato based dipping sauce. I also added some of the garlic sauce from the croquetas. Oh yeah.... My husband got the cuban sandwich and said that it was good. He said the bread was some of the best he's ever had. We shared an order of fries. All of this for $27 and some change. I had half a sandwich left over, btw. They are decent size sandwiches. Definitely recommend them and would love to visit them again if we are ever back in the area.

Great food! Great service! Made to order. The Lechon Asado is incredible, served with delicious black beans, white rice and plantains. So good. Cubano sandwich is also very good. Don provided us with great service and genuine smiles. We'll be back!

Does anyone reading these reviews ever suspect that local Health Department Officials steer clear of reading about restaurants in their jurisdiction ? That if so there would be more HD notifications posted at doorways to many of our local and most likely favorite eating establishments. My one and only visit here was a hopeful one a when I set out to eat here. I've always enjoyed Cuban food in the CBD's Loborio restaurant. My lunch experience here was completely mind altering from passive to repulsive with a side of convulsive! Hair on a plate is one thing, but pubic hair is .... Nothing more to say. FYI, I can't post a review without a rating, if I could there would be NO STAR.

It's been a long time since I've loved a restaraunt. So much flavor; the food will have your tongue dancing right before you've realized you've died and went to heaven. Great atmosphere and music. Get the Tamales dish and the cafe con Leche coffee with flan dessert; it does not disappoint.

My choice for dinner was the traditional Cuban sandwich and it was one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. I highly recommend it. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful with our order being first timers and not really knowing Cuban cuisine. though the restaurant was tucked away (but not hard to find) it was definitely worth it.

My husband and I decided to try Que Rico after seeing all of the positive reviews on here. They did not disappoint! The service was a little slow because it was lunch time and they were busy, but that didn't bother us because we were so excited to try our food! My husband got the chicken sandwich that everyone raves about and it was SO GOOD. I will definitely be getting that next time. I got the roast pork that comes with rice, black beans, and fried plantains. Mine was excellent as well and I had enough left to take home and eat for dinner! We also tried the coffee since everyone talked about that and we loved it too! We will definitely be coming back. Give it a try, you won't regret it.

What an unexpected treat! My husband and I were passing through Slidell, needed to grab a quick bite, and luckily yelp led us to this little Cuban restaurant. Absolutely incredible!!! We were a little skeptical judging by the outside, but don't let the laundromat next door fool you. The inside is so authentic and charming. We were excited the moment we walked through the door and we were not disappointed. Don't miss this place if you like Caribbean/Cuban food. A few side notes: Best Cuban sandwich ever. Amazing plantains. Our food came out super fast! Don our server was sooo awesome. Stop reading this and go! Go go go!

Not being from Slidell, and having to be there for five weeks, I needed to find good places to eat. Thanks to Yelp I found the best Cuban food I have ever eaten. Don't take my word for it, just read the reviews. You are going to love this place.

What started out looking like it would be a hot mess of an experience turned into something much better than I thought. The Girly wanted to go thrift store furniture shopping and we stopped by the place across the street. After she was done, we wanted a bite and saw Que Rico right there so why not? I'd looked it up before and it looked interesting. Walking in just after opening time, we were assaulted by extremely loud Cuban music. It was so loud we couldn't even talk to each other. I had flashbacks to Razoos: yelp.com/biz/razzoo-bar-… but this place smelled a lot better. Luckily, it was just what they played while getting ready for their day. As soon as they saw they had customers, it was turned to a livable level. I'm glad they didn't turn it completely off because the music was awesome. The girly ordered her standard Cubano and some plantains and I ordered a pan con bistek. A steak sandwich with french fried potato sticks on top. Both had tea. The girly liked her Cubano. It was a tad dry, but flavorful. The tea tasted odd at first until I realized they didn't water it down too much like most places. Then we really enjoyed it. We both liked the plantains enough to burn our mouths eating them while still too hot. My sandwich, however, was inedible. The flavor (from what I barely got) was great but it had HUGE knots of cartilage in it and I could even bite through it. And if Fat Man can't bite through it, lesser mortals have no hope. I was wrestling (and losing) with my second bite and I had to give up just as the gentleman came with more tea. I let him know the problem and without blinking an eye, he took it and asked if I'd like another one. Now I was worried that the second one would be the same and since I was hungry, I just ordered the Cubano. I'm not a huge fan but I did like the Cubano as much as I can like any Cubano. But like the Girly's, it was a tad dry. Luckily, I had asked for hot sauce and the gentleman brought not only hot sauce, but their house-made rojo sauce. I could drink that stuff out of a cup! Delicious. And adding that to the Cubanos took care of the dryness and gave them a much better flavor. These were not just so-so Cubanos, but something much better. The hot sauce gave them a kick and the Rojo sauce gave them everything you could ask for in a sandwich. SO if my first sandwich was a disaster, why am I still giving them 4 stars? Customer service, customer service, customer service. He not only accepted that something was wrong, but he fixed it quickly and professionally and too many places do NOT do that (I'm looking at you Dante's). The cook came out at the end of the meal to assure me he would have been happy to make me another steak sandwich and to please come try them again. THAT, my friends, is customer service the way it SHOULD be done. The other reason for 4 stars is that I truly believe that I just got unlucky with the first sandwich. I will even go so far as to order the Pan con Bistek again next time and re-review. But that Mojo Sauce,...

I was born and raised in Miami to Cuban parents/grandparents and surrounded by delicious Cuban cuisine for 23 years. That being said, I was a bit skeptical walking into a Cuban eatery in Slidell. But I was definitely shown the light. The food was great. The ropa vieja (shredded flank in tomato sauce) was some of the best I ever had (crazy right?) and the tostones were fried just right. I was delighted to find Iron Beer (amazing sweet Cuban soda) sold here as well. This place has inspired me to open a Cuban bakery soon. Soon.....

We dont have a ton of cuban food options around here and that makes my tummy sad. I looked at pictures and reviews of this place before deciding to try it out. The place looks like a small strip mall restaurant with no fuss. The food is the exact same, no fuss. Rustic style shredded pork and simple tasty meals. We got the tostones with mojo sauce to start. If you dont know what a tostone is, it is a smashed and fried plaintain type banana. The mojo sauce is garliky and packs a punch, It was perfect with the tostones. My wife ordered the tamal with roasted pork on top. Out came a large pile of food. The plate was covered in rice with the tamale sitting on top of that with the shredded pork on top of that and grilled onions on top of all that. The side of black beans came in its own bowl of amazing. All of it was enough for two meals. I ordered the "midnight sandwich" It is the same as the cubano but served on this eggy sweet bread. The bread was like a yellow kings hawaiian bun. It was delicous. I took some of those grilled onions from my wife's tamale and then pored on just a few drops of mojo when i wanted to changs it up. The food was filling and flavorful. I hope this place becomes as popular as it deserves and then brings more cuban places to the region!

Had the Cuban sandwich. Pretty good combination of ingredients. A little dry, but overall not bad. To be fair I'm comparing it to Cuban sandwiches in Florida and that's a tough comparison.

Visiting Louisiana for a couple of days from Miami, Fl and had to get a Cuban food fix. Found this cozy eatery and after meeting the owner and talking about her menu items and a little history of her unique Cuban style cafe I was delighted at the warm familiar welcome I received. I felt as if I was in one of my many favorites in Miami. Food is very traditional, flavorful Cuban fare with most items done from scratch. Nice to find a place far from home that makes you feel right at home.

Excellent as always!!! Have eaten here several times, and I walked here today since the weather is nice and it's only about a half mile from my house. It is definitely worth driving 5 minutes off the I-10 and I-12 if you're traveling through the Slidell area. Decided to try the Hot & Spicy Picadillo Sandwich and even tried the bonus habanero sauce on the side. Delicious and not overly spicy!

Found this place from a quick Yelp search of the area after wrapping up some car work nearby. Came in on a Saturday for lunch, and found a nice and quiet ambiance. Ordered the Lechon Asado (Roast Pork), which is pulled pork shoulder which has been marinated and then slow roasted. This locks in the flavor. The meal was served with white rice, black beans, and tostones (sweet plantains). Service was curteous and quick, and the food appears freshly cooked (you can see a full view of the kitchen behind the cash register). The waiter told me that this past October made 4 years. I don't come to the Slidell area often, but Que Rico! is a great find. A Cortadito (small Cuban expresso shot with sweetened milk) makes for an excellent desert after the meal.

We are visiting from Phoenix, AZ. We came here because it was close to our hotel and got excellent reviews here on Yelp. They DID NOT LIE! We came as a party of four. We ordered Ropa Veija, Mojo Chicken, & a one Tamal dinner. We also had 2 chicken Croquetas & an order order of garlic bread for appetizers. Every dish was absolutely wonderful. Our waiter was a funny jokester and very attentive. Even the iced tea was great. We had more than enough food despite splitting 3 entrees between the 4 of us. The rice and black beans would make a meal just by themselves, but they were sides for each of the dinners. I personally dislike plantains, but they were also good. Despite being stuffed, our son talked us into trying the tres leches cake. It, too, was outstanding. The only drawback that we saw was the tiny strip mall space they are in, but they did have sufficient parking. I only wish we lived closer so that we could make this a regular dining spot. We would drive out of our way to come here!

I've eaten several dishes here and have never been disappointed. Tamals, Cuban sandwich, a wonderful thin steak dish whose name escapes me but it's absolutely bliss! Ask the person taking your order any questions - they're all very friendly and love to talk about the dishes. This restaurant is casual and very charming. I've been told that Friday or Saturday nights can sometimes find patrons cutting a rug to the beautiful Cuban music that is always playing there. I look forward to seeing/partaking one of these nights!

Just moved to the area and was happy to find a local cuban spot where there is a real cubana in the kitchen cooking up some good ol authentic cuban food. I have had the best of the best cuban food being that I am cuban and lived my whole life in Miami so I was very impressed with the flavors. I have eaten here twice, once was take out and dine in a second time. First dish I had was the cuban sandwich which was delicious! Pork was seasoned very well and was loaded throughout the sandwich also with the ham and cheese, pickles and mustard. Very satisfied with that first meal. Second meal was from the daily special menu which was shrimp criolla. It was a huge meal... Came with white rice, black beans, tostones and a big bowl of the shrimp criolla. Good meal, flavors were on point. I only wished that the shrimp were larger and not so overcooked. But overall great local cuban joint that I recommend for all to try!

Ordered the half Cuban sandwich which was pretty good. Fries taste like they drove to Burger King and got some from there, but I know they aren't known for their fries so can't complain too much on that. My boyfriend ordered the tamale plate which he thought was good. Nice little spot. Service was way too slow. It was our first time there so we weren't sure whether to order at the counter or to sit so we waited for 5 minutes or so at the counter while the waiter packed up and cashed out a Togo item. He was finishing up THEN he finally asked if we were dining in or taking out and said we could have a seat since we were dining in. Why not just ask that in the first place so we could go ahead and sit instead of waiting while we stand there awkwardly? There were two tables in the restaurant and the waiter seemed to not be able to keep up. I'm not sure he was even normally a waiter. My boyfriend asked for a water and he brought it to the only other table in the restaurant. The food was decent, but the price was too high for what was offered so that along with poor service is not going to bring me back.

Pork tamales plate!! Yummmmmmy! This is a great Cuban place! Everything that we've tried has been delicious..but I always get the Pork tamales plate. I LOVE the plantains!! You have to try this place out!

Excellent authentic Cuban food. Today I had the pork tamales. The meal came with two large tamales covered with shredded pork, rice, plantains, cabbage salad and black beans. All of it was delicious! This is one of my favorite resturaunts in Slidell.

This unassuming little gem is located across the street from the post office, situated in a tiny strip next to a laundromat and hair salon. Surprisingly, they have outstanding food and service. I'm not usually a fan of tamales but Que Rico's Cuban tamales are so darn flavorful, I could eat them every day. I try to visit this establishment at least once a week (diet permitting) and every time, I intend to order something different but fail. My fave is the Bistec de Pollo served with black beans, rice, and maduros. YUMMY!!! I've also tried the Ropa Vieja (awesome), Lechon Asado (amazing), and I never pass up the Caribbean Chicken Soup (OMG)!! There are a few really good restaurants in the Slidell area but this place is by far the most unique. When my stomach is growling and my palette longs for something more exciting than the average New Orleans cuisine, I always find myself driving to the corner of 2nd and Fremeaux. Please check them out! Your taste buds will thank you:)

Bad experience today. Plantains were burned and chicken sandwich was very dry and tasteless. I have given them good rating in the past but today was bad.

Saw that most of the reviews were from skinny women, so i thought that me and my fat friend would post a review. Just had fantastic Cuban lunch here today. Great food. Tamale plate and Cuban sandwich were excellent. Don't miss out on this one. Two fat guy thumbs up!

Outstanding food and very personable owners. I've been to restaurants in Miami that don't come close to the flavorful food here. Don't let the location and outward appearance deter you from having great Cuban food at Que Rico!

Nothing fancy...and that's what I love! Great food at a very good price. Family owned apparently and big portions. I got the special tonight, 2 very nice sized pork chops with a helping of red beans and rice. Also included were the plantains and cabbage slaw. All for $9.99! Cuban coffee was very good! I will be back!

Not sure why I haven't reviewed this place yet. I go here with my daughter at least once a month. We order the same two items over and over...lechon asado and picadillo. Every time we go, we say let's try something new but then we order the same things since they are just so good!! The service is great each time and we always end up with some leftover to go good for another person's meal. Great food, great service and very reasonable price!

Cuban food in Slidell, Louisiana? My wife and I were skeptical, but decided to stop while driving through because of the Yelp rating. Awesome food. Not much o look at, but the food makes it great. Slow service, but the food is good enough to make up the difference. Great Cuban coffee. The tres leches cake is wonderful. They also have Iron Beer, a Cuban soda, which I like.

Stopped in due to the outstanding reviews. I am by no means a Cuban food person, but I tried the Cuban sandwich and a side of Croquettes. The pork in the sandwich was very flavorful and tender. The sandwich overall was outstanding. I had not had croquettes before but I tried them based on the recommendation of the server. They came with a garlic dipping sauce that was very good and not overwhelmingly garlic. Overall it was a great lunch and I will definitely try them again.

Wonderful food, great service and reasonable prices. Really liked the tamales and roast pork. Guava pastries and cafe con leche were the perfect end to our meal. You can't really go wrong at this cute little mom and pop joint that uses family recipes. We like to go on our way to New Orleans, which considering the great food in New Orleans, speaks for itself.

I bring new people here all the time and they're never disappointed. The Cuban coffees are a must to try. My father loves the Lechon Asado plate, my husband loves the Bistek Palomilla platter, and I love, well, the entire menu! If your curious but not too adventurous you should try the Bistek sandwich it's steak, potato sticks and onions served panini style- sooo good!

SUPER greattttttt #cubanespresso. I'm sold!!!! Only 1 of 2 places that I've come across that do an authentic #cubanespresso & get it right. I love the tiny cup it's served in, how cute!!! I also ordered a hot & spicy picadillo sandwich. Spicy ground beef, jalapeños & sweeeeeet sweeeeeet sweeeet plantains. I was able to eat off this sandwich twice... hello lunch & dinner. Loved the family style feel & friendliness of the patrons & the staff. I ordered a sandwich to go & the cool delivered it, helllllo how cool. Cool kids drawing adorn several doors in this facility. I plan to go back whenever I'm Slidell, so many other things for me to try ... YummmmY!!!

Best Cuban sandwich I have ever had. Sweet plantains were cooked perfectly. Very friendly staff. Great find for anyone who likes good, authentic food. A Cuban sandwich on great poboy bread is something to experience. My only complaint is that they sold out of croquettes and haven't had time to make more. I'll have to come back and trying them. Also, I have read a couple posts suggesting the Cuban sandwich was a little dry. Not mine. I wanted to bring a sandwich home for my wife (1.5 hours away) but I knew the perfectly crispy exterior if the bread would not last long due to the sopping pork goodness inside.

Que Rico is the best Cuban food I've found. The lechon is amazing and if you get the tamales, they make the lechon even better! I love the ropa vieja equally as much! The black beans and rice make excellent compliments to the mains. I save my sweet plantains for last. The perfect bite sized dessert. As for the coffee...WOW. The best I've had. Ever. A must-do every visit. They also have sandwiches and they sound great but I've never tried them.

I didn't expect much from a Cuban restaurant in literally the middle of nowhere, but my family who live in the area tried it recently and liked it. I had the Ropa Vieja, and it was tender and nicely seasoned, I think it was alittle pricey for the small portion though. In NYC the price is the same, but you get more food. My sister had the fried pork chop and she said it had no flavor and was oily (I told her it might have been some condensation, since we called and ordered, then picked it up. We also ordered a cuban and steak sandwich and both were good.

Love love love! I went for lunch yesterday and dinner today. Infact this morning we even stopped by and got espressos to go. The food is amazing and very economically priced. The portions are large and you'll probably end up with a to go box. The coffee is also brilliant. I will most definatley be coming back. I can't believe this place has been here for over 2 years and I've wasted my time not eating here If you are in slidell then you need to try this place.

Great little place. Friendly staff. My husband and I shared a cuban with croquettes and the tamale plate. Everything was great!!!! The sandwich wasn't dry at all and they have an awesome homemade hot sauce. Delicious!!!

You would never guess how good this place is from its unassuming storefront. Nor would you expect quality Cuban food in a town of Slidell. But this place is the real thing and delicious.
