Just had a wonderful lunch at the Real Pickle. The staff greeted us before we got to the door. The food was cooked perfectly and was delicious. I had the Greek salad with grilled chicken, my daughter had the PB&J and my son had a cheeseburger. They were selling beer and the only critique is I didn't realize my son's root beer was going to be $4.50. Other than that a wonderful experience.

While the food is mediocre, I'm not sure if it's worth the wait. I asked to be seated for lunch, waited and watched the staff move from one troubled order to the next. Customers exchanged shaded glances. I ordered the Monday special to use what time I had left of my lunch. I received over cooked rice and sausage, painfully salty beans and some great tasting pickles and toast. Maybe it was just a Monday, but my experience was far from special.

I'm not very happy. This is our first visit. I ordered the real burger with cheese, then after we ordered and waited ten minutes I'm told they ran out of burgers. So I picked something else with the promise it would be cooked in the fly. An hour later we still sit and others got their food before us. Never again.

Went back for second time since Joe Monsour sold his restaurant My wife's Ruben was tough and could not be eaten. I ordered a oyster poboy and received a shrimp poboy. Waitress was indescribable in appearance and manner. Do not think we will return. Good Bye to another Shreveport tradition

Check out their new lunch menu! Certain days they have chicken fried steak, or fried catfish! Its not just sandwiches anymore! Love getting the Abita Root Beer Float on a hot summer day with one of their delicious appetizers. Yum!

Since the old owner has sold it...well, pretty much gone downhill. We arrived at 10:57 and waited until 11:00 ... front gates never opened..noticed some "help" on the other end and said "Are you open?" They said "Yeah, I guess"...Should have noticed the hint...My husband ordered his usual BLT...it arrived..with GOBS of Mayo and I swear you not..1 TOTAL piece of bacon...Ham Sandwich for me...ugh...I swear you not..A couple of pieces of ham and dry bread..nothing more...We have been going to this place for over 10 years...WTH...Maybe new management wants the "BAR" crowd...as I drink my Bud Light...you got my 30 bucks for lunch today but never again..I shall miss you :(

I had a fried cockroach in my po'boy complete with a hair on my lemon in my drink! Need I say more?

I was very much looking forward to eat here. Unfortunately, it was not a very good experience. After being seated, it took 30 minutes for our order to be taken. From there, it was about 45 minutes to receive our sandwiches, which did not come as ordered or advertised! I will not eat here again.

Absolutely great food! Apple fries were awesome and the chicken Monterey was all I could ask for! Great environment and friendly waitresses.

The Real Pickle is one of my favorite places in Shreveport to eat. I love a good deli, and after living in New York City for nearly a decade, I know a good one when I see one. I should also mention that I LOVE pickles. They're practically my favorite food. I even have a t-shirt proclaiming my undying affection for this fine delicacy. Some people heart New York. Other's heart L.A. I heart pickles, and in Shreveport, the best place to get them is at The Real Pickle. They have a huge menu featuring deli classics (triple deckers, reubens, burgers, etc.) and Louisiana favorites (po-boys, catfish, etc.). And for as many sandwiches as they have, they also over 100 beers to choose from. Order them with your meal, or just hang out in the bar, where they've also got three video poker machines. (Tip: Try the middle machine; my brother won $112 on it!) The Real Pickle also has some great sides. The beer-battered fries are delicious, but I also really enjoy their homemade chips. They're thin enough to be crunchy, but thick enough that it doesn't seem weird to dip them in ketchup like a French fry. And to top it all off, the service is excellent. The people are nice, the food comes out fast, and the prices are right where they should be. I heart The Real Pickle.

After hearing that this place was under new management, I was excited to try it again. However, it may possibly be worse than when it was under the old management. Nothing seems sanitary, and the food looks and tastes like it would be served at a school cafeteria. I had a burger that was just under $9. This burger had a flat patty like you get from McDonalds, a slice of tomato, and one leaf of lettuce. It had no flavor. The prices should be at least proportional to what they're serving. Honestly- this place is just looking to make a profit by producing low-price, low-quality food with no regard to keeping repeat clientele.

Oh, what I would do for a No Meatta, No Matta sandwich right now, or a Crawfish tail po' boy with some german potato salad, or blackened catfish fillets....or really anything from here. The complimentary in-house made pickle slices never disappoint, and the restaurant will provide you with as much as you like. They have great lunch specials M-F, take the Friday special, a 4oz tuna steak with vegetables and french bread, very tasty and only $6.50! The menu is pretty massive and I guarantee anyone could find something to smile about on it. I pass through every time I'm back home. *the names of the sandwiches are awesome, esp. the 'Cat on a hot french loaf'-it's a catfish sandwich with their famous 'Twist Sauce'.

I took the advice of another reviewer and got the sweet potato fries. They were awesome. The sweet cinnamon dipping sauce makes them impossible to stop eating. You only need a little sauce. I also got a heartburn sandwich, which was hearty pastrami and corned beef, just like I'd expect from a good deli. Great unsweet iced tea! Portion sizes are good for the price and the waitress Stephanie was very nice. Small crowd on a Saturday night. They have dozens of sandwich options. Plenty more to try when I go back.

The food at the Real Pickle, as well as the beer selection, are top notch. The ambience, though, warranted the pulling of three stars from what could have been a very well rated restaurant- it was that bad. My friend and I were seated in the bar area by request - the main dining room was clinically bright, and was a little packed, though eerily quiet. The bar area was also very quiet - nobody in the place was talking and the only background noise was a low drone of Fox News. We asked to have the radio turned on and both the server and the owner kind of made it a big deal but worked out the sound system to turn on a local radio station. From that point on, the owner alternated between turning up the volume on the 3 TVs (two in the bar, one in the dining room) to first drown out the radio with one news station, then drown out both with another, and so on. By the time our delicious meal was finished I couldn't tell what I was hearing and had a righteous headache brewing. The server was distracted, and not very attentive, though I wouldn't call the service "bad" - it was just uninspired. The TVs, though, were the real problem. Despite the food being really great, I don't think I'd choose to return.

I'm glad I read reviews while reading through the menu - A previous yelper mentioned sweet potato fries with the cake-icing like sauce. OMG. IT. WAS. SO. GOOD. :) That's the best way I can describe the fries. I couldn't find them anywhere on the menu, so thank you fellow Yelper! The rest of the meal, however, was lacking. I got the combination platter, which includes oysters, shrimp and catfish filets. I guess I haven't toured the south long enough to know that EVERYTHING comes fried. I was slightly disappointed that my shrimp and oysters were fried at least. The catfish filets were very thin, mainly fried breading. My boyfriend had a burger called the Swiss Bacon Account. His burger was pretty tasty, I wished I had gone the burger or sandwich route after trying his. All in all, my dish wasn't so great, my boyfriend's burger was much better. You probably shouldn't go here if you're not much of a sandwich or burger person!

We got here right at open so they were not busy, but service was slow a d took awhile forour orders to be served. The food was ok. The half salad was a joke but the frd steak was good. The po-boys were average.

I have never had a bad experience here. Last time I had a Rueben and it was damn good. Probably the best deli in Shreveport !

I really enjoyed the extensive hand written beer list and the fact the management understands beer is meant to be served cold in cold glasses. I enjoyed an Abita Restoration Pale Ale along with my Shrimp Po'boy, both were goo however I have my doubts the shrimp was Gulf Shrimp I should have asked. Some music would have added to the ambiance but I would go back to try some other things on the menu. My brother in law really enjoyed the muffreletta sandwich. Great lunch spot.

Let's be honest, sandwich places are over done in Shreveport/Bossier. At least this one is local and not a franchise. They have a LOT of different beers although most of them are not good beers. The sweet potato fries with cinnamon butter were incredible and it was great to sit outside and have a beer with lunch on a Friday afternoon. But the sandwich was extremely boring and the service was horrible. I will go back but not with much excitement.

Love the atmosphere, the food. We prefer family-owned over chains, and we were very well taen care of here. I recommend the No Meatah and homemade chips.

The Real Pickle is a pretty darn good New York style deli. You get little bowls of tasty Kosher pickle slices as an appetizer, and you can ask for refills (I always do). Their menu is humorous and pretty extensive for a sandwich shop. It's conveniently located on Line Ave, not to far from I-49, making it a great stop if you are passing through.

One of my fav lunch spots when I lived in SHreveport. I couldn't ask for enough pickle refills. The burgers are good, the chicken salad sandwiches are good, love the ruebens.

So, as I'm sitting here, basking in the afterglow of a damn good reuben, it occurs to me that I should write something. I like this place. I like this place A LOT. The sandwich was good, the atmosphere nice. I came at 3:30 in the afternoon, so I'm the only person here. I believe I've stated in other reviews that I judge any deli/sandwich place by their reubens and this place does not disappoint. It's not the BEST reuben I've ever had but definitely top 3 (I doubt the Weary Traveler in Madison, WI will ever be dethroned as the Reuben King) the homemade pickles were delicious and crisp. I haven't had a chance to delve into their beer menu yet, but I can't wait. This place is definitely on my "must return, and soon" list. If you haven't eaten here yet, you should.

this place is described as a new york style deli in shreveport. my hubby and i went gambling this weekend for his birthday and saw the yelp reviews of the po boys and had to give it a try. this place did not disappoint. located in a shopping center, the real pickle looks like a great place to get some lunch especially on a nice day. there's a huge variety of beers and tshirts for those regulars who've tried them all. i ordered the shrimp po boy and fried pickles as an appetizer. my hubby orders the shrimp/crawfish po boy. both sandwiches come with nice thick homemade potato chips. the fried pickles aren't the typical sliced but spears. still very yummy. the bread....oh man....the bread on the po boys was so fresh and soft. it made the po boy extra delicious. the shrimps were lightly battered and were pretty plump...no popcorn shrimps here. we both were so full after chowing down. this is a great no nonsense place for great po boys. we would definitely come back whenever we're in town.

Yummmmyyy!! I love pickles. They brought out some thick sliced dills and refilled the bowl as much as we wanted! I ordered the shrimp po-boy which was also delicious. The shrimp were a little spicy for me but I am a sissy when it comes to spice. The bread was nice and fresh and the beer was cold. It also have a nice big patio...really all I look for in a dive.

a must stop if you're (stuck) in Shreveport. The craft beer list has everything you could ask for and the sweet potato fries with cake batter sauce (you've got to try it) is heavenly

The Real Pickle is the home of "The Only Sandwich I've Ever Loved" - The Chick's In The Mail. A chicken salad sandwich on toasted sourdough, with lettuce, tomato, and bacon. Yes, indeed. See, I don't like sandwiches. Yes, I know. Who doesn't like sandwiches? Well, I don't. No, I can't explain it. They just - don't work for me. But this sandwich? I could eat every day, if it wouldn't make me the size of a house and require me to go on a TLC special about fatasses. My other favorite things about the Real Pickle, in the order they are served: 1. The fresh pickles you get when you first sit down. I love pickles with my whole heart, and these are some of my favorite pickles ever. 2. The beer list (and, to go along with it, the beer challenge). They have the largest beer list in pretty much all of Shreveport. You can sign up for The Beer Challenge, and drink 20, 50, or 100 beers for t-shirts. You also get your picture on the wall when you complete it. Have I finished? Hell no, I don't live there anymore. But I'm working on it. 3. Crawfish and Corn Chowder. Delicious, creamy goodness in a bowl, served with buttery toasts. NOM.

Fast and friendly service. Excellent food for the price! I was craving corned beef and cabbage on St. Patricks day and was drawn to this place by the festive green beer ads hanging out front. There was no corned beef and cabbage on the menu, but I had the Reuben and it was excellent!! The rye was perfectly toasted, the sauerkraut crunchy and sauce delicious. The homemade chips were great as well as the bowl of pickles served upon being seated. The menu is full of traditional deli style sandwiches and I can't wait to go back and try a po-boy. They also have a large beer selection. I was here during lunch so the place was packed but I had no problem getting a table and the service was friendly and quick. I will definitely be back for more.

Finally had an opportunity to stop into this place. When first entering, I was a little taken aback because after reading all the reviews on Yelp I figured this was a bar that just happened to serve sandwiches, not the other way around! It was a Saturday, so while they didn't have any beer specials, they did have 2 for 1 margaritas, and pina coladas! I got the veggie sandwich, the "no meatza" or something. It was OK. It had balsamic vinegar on the sandwich and the entire bottom piece of bread was soggy and soaked with it. Which of course made eating it like you're supposed to a challenge. Ended up just using the fork and have a "salad" with bread in it. Pretty lame and disappointing.

I think this is what used to be the Pickle Barrel back in the day. This cool lady named M'Lou owned it back then. Sounds like its the same type of place. She used to put bowls of the most awesome homemade pickles on the table to nosh on. The menu had awesome sandwiches with cute names. I need to check it out when I'm back home again. I hope it's the same!

I really like The Real Pickle. Although Shreveport may not be known for its food compared to many other Louisiana towns (especially South Louisiana), there are plenty of good, small, local places that do not disappoint. The Real Pickle is a deli style restaurant, but they also serve fried seafood, and you get some very delicious pickle slices before your meal. One thing that is a tad confusing about their menu, though, aside from some of the humorous item titles, is that their homestyle fries are not French fries--they are potato chips. Regardless, their potato chips/homestyle fries are excellent. Also, the way the shopping center is situated, the Real Pickle's entrance is a bit "weird," but you enter from the door that faces Line Avenue. Still, these are minor nitpicks, but it is worth knowing when you come here. I always try to get a meal here when I visit Shreveport.

This is a fun place for lunch or dinner. Specialities are Louisiana dishes like friend oyster po-boys, shrimp po-boys, and gumbo. Also a wide selection of sandwiches, presented on a menu with regional wit and charm. Another speciality is the beer selection: many imports to choose from. If you like, the staff will keep a record on file of the different beers you order. When you reach 20, you get a free t-shirt that reads I drank 20 beers at the Real Pickle. Cool. Video poker available in the back.

Staff was so rude....and when I complained about not being served the cashier was miffed at me! Food is ok but not good enough to take lip off his young staff.

  • Joe B.

To be fair, I've only eaten here twice, but the service was slow, the food was overpriced and basically Wonderbread with bad lunch meat, cold fries... and the price was not appropriate. I'll have to go back to give it a fair shake, but for now (despite others I know saying it's 'pretty good') I wouldn't recommend it.
