This Restaurant is probably one of Shreveports Hidden Secrets! They have an AMAZING chicken and shrimp pasta- i have no idea what kind of sauce it is, other than it's a creamy cajun sauce. Their steaks are so tender you don't need the knife! Spring and Summer- they have Cub burgers on the patio! the patio is huge so on a nice day it's great to hang out and catch up with friends!

One of the top 3 places for steak in Shreveport/Bossier City and NO the top 3 don't include Superior Steakhouse!!! This place is located in a dive bar off Kings Highway in Shreveport, LA (close to the corner of Youree and Kings)....Love the bar tiny, dark, coupla pool tables, big U shaped bar, outdoor seating area...back in the day it was probably a burger joint with drive up/call box service. Any way you gotta go in the bar to get to the restaurant portion which is to the left of the bar if you come in the front door....walk through a glass door located right by the jukebox or is it a video poker machine? Can't really remember,,, The "restaurant" itself is tiny and seats no more than 20 people....if you wanna eat here on a Friday or Saturday night then reservations are strongly recommended!!!! The menu is simple...Steak and some limited seafood options!!! Salads are limited too...House salad, Caesar salad and Wedge salad... That's OK with me cause if you are eatign here you aint looking for some fancy smanshy food you are there to be a CARNIVORE!!!! Plus I like a restaurant that says "This is what we do, it's all we do and we do it damn well!!" Never ever had a bad experience here and have loved every meal I've ever eaten here so I don't understand some of the meh reviews but I reckon Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!!! The side you should always order is the au gratin potatoes!!! Top 3 in Shreveport/Bossier City!!! Look you walk in here you better have your mouth set on steak and don't be expecting no damn fine china and floosy tablecloths...you are eating in a hidden gem of a steak place which happens to be located in damn dive bar!!! SO get your nose out of the air; order you a cocktail from the bar and go in and satisfy that red meat hunger that led you here in the first place!!!

The Cub is a great place for a no frills atmosphere and a delicious filet. Don't come expecting all the trappings, but do come expecting a great meal. You have to get the potatoes au gratin when you go. If you appreciate a place where all they care about is the food then The Cub is the place to go.

Best au gratin potatoes I've had in my life. PERIOD. It is a DIVE, but it has been here FOREVER and the steak and au gratin potatoes are amazing.

I say overrated. Maybe things aren't what they used to be? The steak and potatoes were good, just not worth the price or atmosphere. I mean really it's a dirty bar. Completely sketchy for females. I had it once, won't be back.

Great food. Great service. Best wedge salad I have ever had. Au gratin potatoes are always a favorite. Delicious steak. Every time I go here I have a great time, and leave stuffed !!!!

I've only been to the restaurant once, just once, but unlike professionally-paid reviewers, who dine on the company dime and can afford two visits, alas, I cannot, not for the sheer cost of this place. I have lived in Shreveport all of my life (for the most part, minus college and a few other years away in this place or that place). I love Shreveport. That's why I came back. That's why we all come back, like zombies. That being said, it seems for about as long as I can remember, I have been told by the supposed those-in-the-know, that I have just got to, got to, got to try the steak at the Cub. In the past, when I would answer in the negative that in fact, I had not tried the steak at The Cub, I would be met by bulging eyes, mouths agape, groans, shock, incredulation, like, "Ohhhhhmyyyyygosh, you have just got to try the steak at The Cub and the au gratin potatoes, oooooooooooohhhhhhhh they are just so divine!" Well, no longer wanting to be a social outcast, and being a near-lifelong Shreveporter, who apparently had not really lived at all just yet, and being a rabid steak lover and really a lover of just good bar food in general, I thought, 'why not, let's do it.' Let me also say this, it was not what I was expecting and it was not what I was told, and none of these are good things. First of all, I know they keep odd hours on the restaurant, because we actually tried to go one night, like at 6 or 7 pm, and the place was closed, so we had to come back a few days later. We came back and walked through the bar, which I had been to before, but the restaurant isn't in the bar, no, it's in a much smaller room with white tablecloths. I was surprised, I really thought the steak was served to you in the bar. My internal alarm was starting to go off. Just like a powdered wig in a movie usually equals at minimum a two and a half hour running time, white tablecloths in a restaurant usually equals the lights flickering in the restaurant as they swipe your debit card in the back of the restaurant. It's gonna be pricey, so you better strap yourself in. The restaurant section of the bar is separate, intimate and kinda cool, and already committed, well-underdressed for white tablecloths and desperately wanting to get my Shreveport citizen card punched, my guest and I dug in for the experience. My steak which I ordered medium well, and I hate this, was woefully undercooked. When it comes down to it, when i order my steak medium well and it comes back wrong, I'd prefer it wrong more on the well done side than the undone side. This steak was so rare, I think Babe Ruth autographed it. Blood gushed from the meat as my fork plunged into it. For some, this might just be stupendous, but for me, this is absolutely revolting. Yeah, wheat pennies aren't as rare as this cut of meat. I am never one to send something back to the kitchen for fear of it coming back with a side of hocked loogie or worse. So, I just sat there. Disgusted and more so, disappointed. I tried to work my way through the meat, but I just couldn't do it. And the "legendary" potatoes au gratin? In a word: "eh." That's right, just plain ol' "eh". Nothing special, really. My reaction garnered a shoulder shrug at best. I expected a reaction more so, in the form of a change of drawers and tears of joy coming from my eyes. In fairness, maybe I came on a bad night, maybe if I sent it back, the steak would've returned sans hocked loogie and full of the potential it was supposed to have during its' initial run, these are things we'll never know. All I can report to you, is exactly my impressions from just one sitdown. From what I experienced that one time, I know hundreds of places and situations where I have had or could have a better cut of meat than what was presented on my plate this very evening. I have had better steak grilled in the backyard (Oh yeah!), heck, to be blunt about it, I've had better steak at a Waffle House! Seriously! Maybe all the hype ruined it? Maybe my expectations were warped before I even walked through the door? Maybe it was the white table cloths and the heart attack I received when I picked up the check? I will close by throwing you a few over-unders in regards to The Cub and its' citizenship-questioning steak and au gratin potatoes. Overs: Over-priced, Over-paid and Over-hyped. Unders: Underwhelmed and Undercooked. People, save your money, go rogue and forget getting your citizenship papers stamped.

How do I count the ways I love the Cub Restaurant!!! We have been coming here for years! It's the best steak in town! With the most fantastic au gratin potatoes! The wedge salads are delectable ! The marinated crab claws are a personal favorite. What really makes the place special other than the food.. The atmosphere.. Some call it a dive, I call it intimate and entertaining. And the service is always superior thanks to Brad!!

This place is famous for its fillet mignon, and lived up to its reputation. The potatoes au gratin were delicious, and the salad wedge was nice and cold. I finally made it to my last Shreveport restaurant destination.

The Cub is hands down the best dive bar in the Western Universe, and I say this as someone who has drank in literally thousands of dive bars from Fairbanks, Alaska to the Panama Canal, from Toronto to Cabo. I have also had many a drink at The Cub and when I am in Shreveport it is my main and much preferred watering hole over anything else Shreveport-Bossier or the surrounding area has to offer. The drinks are righteously stiff. The first time I ordered my usual (a shot of Bushmills and a chaser of cheap red wine) and was charged $11 for it, I was slightly taken aback. Why was I being charged Saturday night prices on a Tuesday afternoon? Then I saw the bartender pour and all became clear...what you and I might call a shot is actually almost 2 shots at The Cub and my vat of red wine came out of a huge gallon jug with a twist off cap. I knew this was to be the beginning of a beautiful friendship and wondered why the hell I'd never been in this place before. That same afternoon I decided to try the food as well, because, well, why not? I was hungry and had plenty of cash, I was hungry so why the hell not? I had heard the place was expensive so I talked to my server and he hooked me up with a "special." I had a steak cooked perfectly medium-rare, augratin taters, a salad and of course more cheap red wine. I thought that for the quality of the food, the service, and the overall dining experience, the price was very decent and even including a generous tip and a slice of raspberry cheesecake to take home, I really couldn't complain and did not feel at all as if I spent too much. Talk to your server, ask about specials, split a steak with a friend, (they really are quite big) there are ways to get the most bang out of your dining out dollars if you use your head and aren't afraid to schmooze a little. Always, ALWAYS treat your servers very well and they will take care of you. The Cub has everything one would expect to find in a place deserving of the title of Dive Bar: 1. It is dark, the candles and ambient lighting provide just enough illumination so people can find their way to the toilets and back with no major mishaps. 2. Smoking is allowed and even encouraged BUT anyone lighting up a stinky cigar or overly pungent pipe tobacco will be scowled and growled at until they either put it out or leave. 3. Food is available next door in the tiny, tiny restaurant and the food available is GOOD FOOD. (See above) 4. Yes, there are creeper dudes and horndogs at the bar, and yes, if you are a single female either in the company of one or two other ladies or by yourself, one or more of the creepers/dogs is going to try to chat you up. However, all you have to do if you wish wish to be left alone is to assert yourself by using a firm tone of voice and saying something to the effect of "I'm not here to talk, I have enough friends, one asshole in my panties is plenty, thanks, now LEAVE ME THE HELL ALONE." Speak loudly enough to be heard by all the barflies, shoot them all a filthy look so they know "This means you too." and you should be left alone. 5. There are pool tables and 9 times out of 10 there is at least one other patron willing to play you a game or three. 6. There are video games and it isn't exactly rare to have someone else in the bar will admire your high score and tell you how awesome you are at video games, even if you are not a reasonably attractive woman or even if you are a guy. 7. The bartenders are not there to play, they were all thrown out of kindergarten because they don't play. There is no need to order a double, not unless you love puking in your car just before getting a DUI. Actually, if you are going to have more than one drink at The Cub, you should really have a designated driver, take a cab, or even stagger home, always better to be safe than to wind up handcuffed to a bench at the cop shop. 8.The jukebox and the big screen TV are usually vying for the center of attention, except on Friday and Saturday nights or whenever there is some big deal football game on and one or the other of them wins....for awhile. 9. You can cuss, tell disgusting jokes, belch and do most of the other things frowned upon in "nicer" places that have better lighting and weaker drinks. Yet, it is quiet. I have drank at The Cub many, many, many, many, MANY times over the years and I have NEVER seen anyone get loud, stupid, or otherwise out of line. And this is the true hallmark of the dive bar: although you may do and say things here that are marginally or not at all socially permissible most other places, being stupid, obnoxious or annoying doesn't cut it either and if you behave in a stupid, obnoxious or annoying manner for more than 2-3 minutes tops, you will be asked to leave, shown the door if necessary, and not allowed back for quite some time. (This is why drinkers in the know LIKE to drink at dive bars!)

Great hidden gem for a good steak and drink while you wait. I get the chicken and shrimp pasta that has huge prawns on it. The sauce is like no other. Au gratin potatoes are a must! No better place in town for them

It is literally a hole in the wall inside a bar. Steak was good, not great. Potatoes were very good. Crab claws were a little bland. Over priced for the quality of food and atmosphere. If you want a good steak, there are many other places in town that are enormously better.

Best steak in tha port. Just ask for Pete to take care of ya. If ya want better crab claws, go to Fairfield Grocery. But the steak. WHOA! And the scalloped potatoes, get outta here!

Beware to any unsuspected ladies who make the mistake of walking in without a dude on their arm! I mean, unless you really want to be hit on by creepazoids lurking along the bar. That may be your idea of a good time. No judgment! I convinced my experienced friends who knew better that I wanted to check out The Cub, having lived in the city for quite awhile and yet still hadn't visited. I got groans but they grudgingly went in, the guys heading to the video games, while my friend and I went to the bar. It was essentially 30 seconds before Creepazoid #1 engaged my friend, presumably for the mistake of saying "excuse me" to him as she leaned in to order from the barkeep. What happened from there was a total absence of service-- because though we asked for a beer and the bartender acknowledged us he walked out from behind the bar to....?? Who knows? He may still be missing. The guys kept chatting us up, despite being a solid 30 years older (i'm 31), complete with grabby, gnarled hands, until my male friend sailed in, thus saving Creepazoid #2 a foot up the butt. This all went on for a solid... I'd say 7-10 minutes. That's literally the only time we spent in there. We got shafted by an inattentive bartender, got felt up by some old barflies, and came out smelling like we'd been living inside of a pack of cigarettes. Eventful, and not worth much more than a single star.

Well, I haven't been to the restaurant, but I have been to the bar once. I hear the food, though, in the restaurant is pretty good...hmm, maybe next time I'm in town. The bar...what I more can I say...it's a typical low-key bar. There's the pool table/arcade games in one room, and the main room has the actual bar and tables to sit. Bartenders are pretty friendly, and if you're a regular, they know you by name...i.e. my older brother used to frequent this place in years past and knew the bartender working the night we went to The Cub. Lovely. You'll also never know who you'll run into here so keep an eye out. Why? Well, that same night by brother & I went there with friends, we met Todd Walker. Hello! A Shreveporter turned pro baseball player (i.e. played for the Cubs a couple seasons). He's a nice guy who took time to chat with us (told me he really enjoyed Chicago but not the weather..who could blame him), and even agreed to take a pic with my brother and his friend. Cool, huh?

Best steak in Shreveport, hands down. You may be surprised to find Shreveport's best steak dinner is served in what can only be described as a dive bar, but The Cub has consistently managed to be one of Shreveport's best kept secrets for many years. The menu is kept simple. Steak (choice of two cuts), sides (au gratin potatoes is the only one I can remember), and salad (a wedge of chilled iceberg lettuce with dressing, blue cheese crumbles are optional). Besides the restaurant, which is tucked away in a separate little room, The Cub is a memorable destination in Shreveport because it is honestly and simply A BAR.

Don't judge the book by it's cover on this one. The food is as good as it gets for this area. Steaks are wonderful and the au gratin potatoes, forget about it. The only downside is very limited seating so definitely call for reservations.

I was tempted to give it 3 stars but purely base don quality of food, I must give it at least 4. Is this the best steak in Shreveport? Maybe. I havent had many others but it was very good. Incredible au gratin potatoes? Yep. Worth the price? I dont think so. For th prices they charge I would think I was at a 5 star restaurant in NYC or New Orleans. I have been to many great places in N.O. and NYC and the Cubs prices are comparable to these places. $8 for a vodka and tonic? Thats ridiculous. I asked the bar what they charge on the way out and she said $4. So the restaurant side doubles the price? All in all, if I were spending this much on a meal I would go to Superiors Steakhouse. Spending $80 on a meal in Shreveport does not feel right unless Im at the nicest place in the city.

The Cub is an institution. In the same location since 1939! Your options are steak or steak and au gratin or french fried potatoes. Get both!! There's a man on staff full time for peeling and cutting potatoes. It's a very important job! The steaks are always cooked perfectly and not fancy, it's steak that tastes like steak, just the way it should. The staff is efficient, but not doting. It's not fancy, it's a dive bar, but it's so worth it.

Nice dive bar the kind I would like to hang out in, but the restraunt is stupid expensive. I would have walked out had i not been meeting friends there. Prices of a 5 5tar restraunt in a hole in the wall dive bar. I feel like I have been robbed!

The big rave over the "best steak in Shreveport", not impressed whatsoever. I can get a better steak at Logan's WAY cheaper. It was pretty good but way overrated. The atmosphere of The Cub is awesome (the bar), all ages, and the bartenders are awesome!!! I'll stick to drinking, not eating.
