Hot donuts after 4. Delicious - same great taste I remember as a child. Building same too. Felt like a kid when i left store. This is best location by the way!

I always prefer my donuts cooked longer, but that will never happen. Nonetheless, I buy them and eat them. They are good when fresh, hot and accompanied with a tall glass of ice cold milk. They satisfy my sweet craving.

I understand why these little donuts are so popular-- just soooo tasty! Just like Krispy Kreme, they will serve you fresh hot glazed donuts as well as other fancy ones. What makes them better than Krispy Kreme is that they don't overwhelm you with the overly sweet taste. Be sure to stop in while in Shreveport, you will not regret it.

These donuts are delicious! We went to the Mansfield Road location. I've never even heard of them but the reviews were great so I figured why not try them. When I walked in around 4 I thought they were out of donuts. Then the very nice lady told me they cook them to order. What?!?!? I watched them make me a dozed glazed. I was told to leave the box open a while so the glaze would set better. I didn't wait to eat one though! They were hot gooey airy deliciousness!!!! Better than Krispy Kreme! I highly recommend finding a location in Shreveport or Bossier City and getting a dozen...or two! :)

If you want a scone or bagel, go someplace else. This is the place for hot, mouthwatering, gooey deliciousness - the glazed donut. Get them HOT at 4pm, just in time to ruin your dinner. About as good of a glazed donut as you will find. Get in line 15 minutes early to ensure you get your dozen, and watch them come off the line right into your box. The original on Hearne & I-20 has served stars and politicians for decades as the pics prove. There is limited room to sit and the staff are not so friendly, so be prepared to take them with you. Don't forget the napkins.

I'm not really a Donut person but we got there when they first opened and the donuts were hot and fresh. My sister ate 3 before we crossed the state lines back into Texas so I'm assuming she really enjoyed them lol.

I'm a Krispy Kreme fan, and Dunkin Donuts is okay in a pinch, but Southern Maid towers above them all. The original glazed are light yet substantial, rich but not greasy, sweet but not so much that the glaze obscures the deliciousness of the dough. When hot, they are perfect. Cool, they are still very good. We have family in east Texas but live in the Philadelphia area. Every time we roll through Shreveport on one of our epic road trips, Southern Maid is the ONE place we have to stop.

Is there something wrong here? Did I go to the grocery store and buy donuts there instead of Southern Maid? Did I have a fever that distorted my taste buds? No. Sadly, as much as I wanted to believe otherwise, no. I ordered several donuts, and found most of them tasting like any other donut I could have around my neighborhood. They didnt taste bad. They were nice and soft. But they did not taste like Heaven like everyone believes. I would give this place another try if they were free, but I would more than likely spare myself the calories and eat some donuts from Shipleys instead.

Love the hot donuts with some milk. I'm from Monroe Louisiana and every time I go home and/or return to Dallas I must stop for a HOT dozen and some milk. You should too!

From California and wanted to make sure I hit this place. How was it? Ask my ass...it just added a size to an already large number. Healthy-no, Great-yes. Now I need to have salad all day tomorrow.

I am one of those guys that is dedicated to Krispy Kreme, but that is only because I love HOT doughnuts. I grew up on my local doughnut shop at 3:30 am because I knew they were HOT. This was my 2nd visit to Southern Maid and all I can say about them is that they are smaller than what I am use to. However, they are quite tasty when they are hot. & They are a lot cheaper than KK. The only other problem is the only place I have seen them is here in Shreveport. All in all I really enjoyed them and will be back when the HOT light is on again!!!

No trip is ever complete without stopping at Southern Maid Doughnuts on Hearne Avenue! Those soft and sweet pastries send my palate into nirvana each time to bite into them. I always end up getting more than 6 dozen in a week's time before I leave, and I'm not ashamed to say it LOL! I honestly wish Southern Maid would come back to Alabama because they would destroy Krisy Kreme!

Best donuts in the world. All other donuts are pale in comparison to Southern Maid Donuts. Tender dough with a light sugar glaze, they are best enjoyed when they are HOT HOT HOT at 4pm. Always served with Southern hospitality. A family favorite!

I was home this weekend and no visit is complete without going to the Southern Maid on Hearne Ave. NOTHING has changed over the many, many years I have went here since childhood other than now they take credit cards! Usually 4pm is the time to get 'em HOT, but I lucked up at 10am and the lady said they just made a fresh batch so instead of getting a mixed dozen of fritters, cruellers and glazed, I left with a dozen of HOT glazed donuts. These things litterly melt in your mouth, and you've eaten 4 before you realize it because they are so light. The texture is nothing like any donut I've ever eaten and since Southern Maids were my first donut experience, every one that has been tasted after it is a bitter disappointment. So now I live in Fort Worth, TX and I'm glad we don't have Southern Maid. I like to keep them as a special treat that I can only have when I'm home.

Tasty goodness if eaten fresh and I mean fresh out of the oven fresh. Greasy lard balls of indigestion if eaten more than 5 hours after purchase, so eat them when you get them. Me, I normally don't throw a dozen down instantly so this is an occasional stop as opposed to a regular one.

I was there at 7 am on a Saturday. They opened up late. The doughnuts they sold me were obviously old and stale. The old school "hot donuts" sign is awesome, but they couldn't deliver on that advertisement.

I grew up in Shreveport, but moved to New Orleans for college. Every time I try a new donut down here I keep hoping that it will live up to the glory of Southern Maid donuts. Nothing ever does, and it's saddening. No donut I've ever had compares to Southern Maid. They're lighter, fluffier, and they melt so wonderfully in your mouth. The glaze is thin and doesn't overpower the delicious donut. My personal favorite are the chocolate glazed. I eagerly look forward to my next trip home so I can snag some of these donuts.

Hot donuts early in the morning. We visit everytime we're in town. We eat some there and bring a box home for later. It's all about the good Southern cooking in the South...mmm~mmm good!!! I'm off to have some crawfish etouffee, gumbo, jambalaya, bbq, and fried alligator for lunch. Although, I have to run off these calories at a nearby high school track, as I don't see many mega gyms in Louisiana.

This here I FLIPPING Crave...we don't have a damn thing in Cali that compares. If I'm wrong let me know. My momma use to make my daddy go out from them when she was pregnant with me. Cure my fix, I got to jet into Shreveport, LA.

I really fought hard NOT to write this review as Southern Maid and I have such a relationship that I'm sure many will share (especially natives) but Lord help me and us all as I know I have an unhealthy relationship with SM and particularly HEARNE & GREENWOOD Southern Maid is how it all started. Why 2 stars if I'm such a fanatic? It feels like a one-sided abusive relationship right now. How is that? (my heart hurts to write this as it never used to happen. Or it was my fault for stopping by in the middle of the evening to get fresh and hot donuts - 6pm). I stop in to buy just one simple dozen of glazed donuts upon my return to the PORT. Had my cash ready. Dropped my coins for the tip. Waited as always. Bought some new postcards. Got my box, appreciated the steadfast traditional waiving of the box at me. ON MY WAY HOME. Tried to pop a donut in my mouth and **BAM** hard as day old bread. Ok..it's just that one. Put it aside thought about it some more... wait that wasn't hot. Try another. it's not hot either. Get home. Tell my mother. Same effect. Call the location to discuss this, i'll return tomorrow. Why? This never happens ( I wish I could use bold and italices here) so this box must have belonged to a worker and I got the wrong one. Of course, our call goes smoothly. It's Southern Maid. I could never be mad with them. Half way around the world, in Australia, I have memories and a pull on my conscience to get back to SM. I go back the next day to return the donuts and get a new box. **BAM** same thing. But this time, I stop in the street and return instantly. I ask (if anyone is from Shreveport, you know the guy with the long hair and hippie look has to be a owner/partner. The sweet black lady that has always worked the counter has to be their right hand woman and worked their since I was a little little girl) for the guy and he shows up and talks to me. Explains due to family issues and health problems - the store doesn't open on Tuesday because no one can work it. Apologizes and we talk about the days of old. Patron this place as I understand businesses have hiccups especially after the founding/start up generation passes on to the next but this made me research SM some more and I contacted the Corporate office and learned Hearne Ave location isn't the flagship or original contrary to all beliefs. This is based out of Texas!?!? They were slow to respond to my emails but I've decided the HWY 1/North Market near the Cooper Road area will have to be my new flagship as they'll make them fresh in your face while you wait. P.S. Southern Maid Hearne Ave & Greenwood Road - I long for the day that we'll reunite. Hot donuts, gooey donuts, best donuts ever straight from the airport to you. Late night drive across town to get a fix, I heart you. Wait! someone's going to the hospital for a visit - let's stop at SM immediately - I heart you. And you're up the street from El Chico's. Around the corner from Southern Classic?!?! Amazingly, I weighed less living in such a place than I do living away. P.P.S. Here is the reason other donut companies FAIL in Shreveport, LA. They're that good. And I know they'll come back.

We ordered a dozen glaze warm soft and sinful. Need I say more?

Long before Krispy Kreme popped into town (twice*), Southern Maid was and still is THE donut place. My dad used to get us donuts on Sunday mornings. When I would wake up early enough, and not be grumpy (not often), I'd go with him just to step inside and smell the freshly made donuts. We often stopped by this location, but most of the time we went to the one near Centenary College. While my family loved the HOT fresh donuts (doughnuts?), I actually liked the semi-cooled ones just because they didn't seem as crunchy as the hot ones. Plus, the glaze on the colder donuts had finally settled onto the donuts and not run off onto the box. I do like the plain glazed ones, but I much prefer the chocolate topped glazed ones. A little bit of sweetness iced with chocolate. Good morning to me! *A little bit of nonsense: Krispy Kreme made it's first appearance in S'port in the late 80s but didn't last after a year or something like that. It came back mid-2000s (?) and has made it's place among the busy Youree Drive shopping centers.

This is the BEST doughnut on the planet! There is no argument here! None! The argument ends here and now, and the age of enlightenment begins. I have tried all of the big boy doughnut factories: Krispy Kreme, Dunkin' and Tim Horton's. Southern Maid stands in gooey glazed goodness over them all. And this location...this location, is the very best Southern Maid location and it is also the oldest. I love Southern Maid...normally at any other doughnut place or in any other doughnut situation, I would automatically go for the chocolate doughnut, as I am a chocolate freak! And they have wonderful chocolate doughnuts here, but it is the glazed, just the plain glazed, that keeps me up at night. It is the glazed that hits me up on my cell in the wee hours and then hangs up...Glazed? I know it's you! I got caller i.d! Oh, the glazed doughnuts at Southern Maid...what I wouldn't do for you! As a matter of fact, if I had to have a last meal (Superior Bar and Grill), then this would be the dessert portion! A half dozen glazed from Southern Maid and two slices of Black-Bottom Pie from Southfield Grill! Oh my, my, my! I am done! You hear me? I am done! Wooooo! Tap me out! This Southern Maid location at Hearne is part of my Shreveport eatery tour! It is where I bring all of my out-of-town guests! And there is also nothing better at the conclusion of a great Shreveport-Bossier Captains baseball game, than to swing by this location, which is always busy, and pick up a dozen hot, fresh doughnuts that literally melt in your mouth! I buy them with the intention of taking them home, but they never make it that far, poor doughnuts. I usually devour them right there in the car in the parking lot of Southern Maid. Like some drug addict getting his fix. Elvis Presley a/k/a "The King" a/k/a "The King of Rock N' Roll", Elvis Presley got his start in Shreveport at Municipal Auditorium at the "Louisiana Hayride". Icon. Legend. Elvis Presley only did one commercial, promoted one product in his entire life...Do you know who it was for? Do you know the product?... It was a radio commercial for... Southern Maid Doughnuts! "The King" could never be wrong!

I have family who live in Shreveport and every time I'm in town, one of the first stops is the Southern Maid Donut Company. So much better than Krispy Kreame, the donuts are fresh, always hot after 4pm. I have fond memories of my Aunt picking us up from the airport and heading directly to the donut shop for a quick fix. You can EASILY chow down 7 without even thinking twice! Sure, they aren't as 'pretty' as the perfectly formed Krispy Kreame, but they taste so much better! Last time I was there, I can remember that several of the staff have been there since I was a kid of 12 years old (I won't mention how old I am now... but nowhere near 12) Good to see they can keep employees! So if you're in Shreveport and have a hankering for a sweet treat after 4... get yourself over to Hearne Avenue for a donut run! You'll be so happy you did.

I am having some SERIOUS flashbacks right now. So Southern Maid is a precursor to Krispy Kreme, at least in my life. My grandmother lives in Shreveport and as kids we would beg to go to Southern Maid to get their hot donuts. Unlike Krispy Kreme, they serve hot donuts everyday after 4PM, so you don't have to pray that the 'light is on'. As an adult, they're still the one of my donut loves of my life.

Krispy who????? Don't bother with those knock off copy cats when you can have the real deal Southern Maid! I've been going to this place since I was 3yrs old. Nothing has ever topped it. I've been Coast to Coast and nobody does glaze donuts like Hearne Ave Southern Maid. No lie...I've flew from Shreveport to San Jose, CA with 7 dozen donuts to bring back for friends and family who was craving for the sugary delights.
