First time goer. I was pleasantly shocked by the low prices. We had fajitas, enchilada ranchero, and chimichanga. Food is definitely not bad, but I was underwhelmed. And there were no margaritas? ?? Service wasn't bad, but definitely wasn't personable. Didn't feel entirely welcomed. I'd go back but probably wouldn't break my neck trying.

It's packed by 12:30 on a Sunday, so get there early. They don't seem to staff for that rush. I just got tacos. They were ok...lots of meat, but not much lettuce which would've been nicer. They use a white cheese, and it wasn't my favorite. But, three tacos a la carte for $4.50 seemed like a steal. The lunch is one taco with rice and beans for $5.99 I think...and that's just crazy in comparison. Boyfriend got a "DeSoto" dish. It was beef fajita, chicken fajita, bacon and shrimp all in a pile on rice. He said it was good. It was huge, especially for $8.99. He ate it all up. The salsa needs some spice, but the chips are great. It's good. Especially in an area that only had higher priced places. This was a cheap alternative.

This place has decent salsa. That's it. Chips are old and stale. The service is terrible. Waitress leaned on table and almost spilt my salsa on me. Asked for Pepsi. Received dr pepper. When asked, yes I had to ask for a refill she said "Dr Pepper?" I replied no Pepsi. She brought another Dr Pepper. Ordered Chili Colorado, got Chili Verde. Not that it mattered since it is obviously out of a can. Also had some white bugger or snot stuff in it. Rancid. Almost as bad as El Chicos. You have been warned..

By far one of my favorite Mexican restaurants. The salsa is fresh and the waitstaff friendly. I love the chicken soup and the chicken tacos! However I was very disappointed at the coverage of waitstaff during the Sunday lunch rush. They were packed and the bartender was even waiting on customers. We waited any hour for our food and my soup came out ice cold. I recommend going during the evening time when they are better staffed.

Wow first time my wife has sent food back. She described the chili renos as disgusting. My enchiladas were flavorless, beef, chicken, cheese, all taste the same. Except for a different texture I had no idea which one I was eating. My kid wouldn't eat the cheese nachos said the cheeses tasted funny. The hot sauce for the chips tasted like tomato paste.

Tried El J again while I was in town a few weeks ago. Meh. Not so great. I can't even remember what I had it was so unremarkable. Some platter with a chile relleno. Bleh. But the salsa is still yummy! There are way too many good Mexican places to eat around Shreveport/Bossier. El Jimmy, you lost your spot with me!

Excellent taste, on meats, fresh vegetables and fruits. A bit large of a menu, yet there are some very interesting grill delicacies that one can't find in other traditional Mexican or TEX-MEX chain restaurants for sure... Service was fair, a bit slow at times (been here 4 times now) better avoid lunch & dinner hours during work days, ambience was good, the seats could be a bit more comfortable. Overall a good experience!

Great place to eat for your money, I think it's a better alternative than Nickies Mex. restaurant. They have bar for those who drink. Ee ate the fajitas jalisco for 2, plenty for a couple to split. Their desert was awesome, we tried the cheesecake stuffed chimichanga that came with a side of ice cream topped with chocolate, caramel, whipped cream and Cherry's.

After living in Fort Worth for 20 years and moving to Shreveport, this is by far the best Tex-Mex place in the area. The menu is huge and every dish we've had has been great! The word is getting out because the place is getting packed now.

Only been there once. That was enough. It's cute on the outside. I don't recall stellar service but don't recall it being bad either. I got guacamole salad and it was just "meh." It was super creamy and plopped on top of shredded ice berg lettuce with a bit of chopped up tomatoes on the side. I don't like super creamy guacamole. That's my preference-- chunkier and more like homemade, u know? My husband said it was just okay, what he got. Not impressed so no need or desire to return. Bummer.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
