I can't think on any reason not to give this place 5 stars!! FANTASTIC Flavor and good service at a great price! WOW!! This was SOooo...DELICIOUS! My colleague was skeptical when I said we were eating Mediterranean food in Shreveport, LA. We were both impressed! The food was well seasoned and well prepared. We enjoyed everything hummus, baba ghanoush, kabobs, chicken shawarma and gyro. Come prepared to eat. The portions are generous enough to share. The hummus had a nice kick that wasn't too spicy. We hated to leave anything our plates but couldn't take it with us. If you like Greek and Lebanese food you have to try Athena's Grill in Shreveport!!! YUMMMY!!

Best Greek and Lebanese restaurant in Shreveport (definitely my own personal opinion of course!) so far. We always order the Athena Sampler for an appetizer--amazing! The Combination Shawarma salad is delicious as well as the lamb kabob. The one con I really have is the bathroom, not the biggest or sometimes cleanest unfortunately. Staff has always been friendly and are quick to refill your water and bread baskets; we never leave the place hungry and the price is fair. Apparently there is an outdoor seating here but we have yet to try it out. **no military discount

I had no idea this place existed.. it's behind of the major Line ave. street and the sign wasn't obvious to me when I drove by. The food was not bad. The portion of most plates were HUGE. I like their salad although the dressing can be overly greasy at times. When I was actually pretty pleased with the food and whole experiences I went to their restroom and everything changed. I am not expecting a fancy restroom given their price point. However, when I entered their restroom, some tiles on the floor was broken, door knobs were sticky and i could not lock the door for the stll. Plus the nasty yucky bathroom smell... It reminded me of a rundown gas station bathroom. It was disgusting to think that employees use this restroom and go back to the kitchen or serve our food. I hope it was a one time thing and they have fixed the lock and clean the restroom since I visited the place - I could not think of going back to their bathroom again to check.

Good but not great. The name is reversed. It's 80% Lebanese. Never has there been Greek music playing. The Yero's are just okay, skimpy on the zatziki. George's are better. For REAL Greek food , go to Yeero Yeero on Youree Drive.

I travel to Shreveport about once a month for work. I try to eat in non-chain places that offer fresh food. Athena fits the bill. While the service is erratic, the place is usually not crowded so it all works out. Grilled Chicken platter is my go to dish, but the babaganoush app is quite good as well as their lentil soup. Overall, worthwhile place if you are in Shreveport.

It was absolutely delicious! We got the sampler plate for 2 since we had never been before and it was more than enough for both of us. The mint vinaigrette is made in house daily and it is delicious. We will definitely be back.

Fantastilicioux! Great food and great service. Try their hummus and baba ganoush. Baklava to finish the meal is a great deal. Will be back regularly..

Reliable and fresh Mediterranean here any time we have tried. We came back for a couple of dinner plates - gyros and kabob combination on this day.

My wife and I were having a night at the boats and needed a nice dinner. Opened up google maps, searched 'Greek' and were there in no time. My town only sells hamburgers, chicken, pizza and Mexican food. (Not that there is anything wrong with that...) but I enjoy eating something different every now and again. We ordered a plate for two, a dessert and a couple of coffees. The server was amazing in explaining what every thing was, and the food was superb. I absolutely am not a person that can or can't vouch for the authenticity, but after eating a nice sample of their food I would order just about anything on the menu with confidence. We will absolutely be back, thank you for a great experience.

Early lunch on a Saturday by myself. I ordered a chicken shawarma sandwich which clearly stated that it came with a salad and hummus. I even asked my waitress what came on the salad, and she told me. When she delivered my food she said she "forgot" that the lunch menu didn't come with a salad. It's Saturday. The menu says the lunch menu is only served Monday-Friday. I'm ordering a sandwich for "regular everyday price" so that shouldn't be the case. When I asked about the hummus, she said it didn't come with that either and tried to sell me the $5 appetizer hummus. No, thanks. While the sandwich was good (a bit dry), the service was very poor. I probably won't be coming back.

Found this place on Yelp while searching for somewhere serving vegetarian dishes. So excited I did!!! Had a great lunch sampler plate. All good but the baba ghanoush was exceptional, worth the trip by itself. My aunt had a gyro plate and enjoyed it. The service was prompt and friendly. Our waiter asked if we were familiar with the cuisine so he could help us through the menu if we weren't- so important if you're trying new things. Saturday nights they have a hooka lounge set up outside, fun to try. There is a small grocery area attached that has middle eastern specialities. This is the place to find grape leaves! I'll definitely be back when I'm in town again.

I've travelled extensively in the Middle East. Lived in London for 28 years. Grew up eating Greek food in Camden Town, so I'm pretty well-versed in this kind of cuisine. Now, this place isn't Greek. It's Lebanese, or possibly Israeli Arab, but it is great...and it's in Shreveport!?!? We started with falafel, which was light and properly seasoned, then followed with the platter for two, which was excellent. Only suggestion I would make is that they smoke the aubergine from which the baba ganoush is made a little longer. Reasonably-priced, very friendly, relaxed service, we will keep coming back.

I'm not easily impressed but Athena impresses me soundly. Exceptional food taste and quality plus exemplary service make it hard to beat. I heartily recommend this restaurant to anyone. Among my very favorite in Shreveport.

This place is constantly impressive. They staff is always pleasant and the food is always good. I made the mistake of never trying their pasta before but upon my last trip here I did. It was outstanding! Before you leave be sure and browse their grocery store in the back.

I just moved into the state I needed a place were its kids friendly and has a family vibe 2 it. The food was Amazing they all types of meat and chicken and has a lot of different options to choose from. The kids enjoyed the gyro meat and fries. I wish I could have taken pictures the next trip. I loved all the sides they had from the humus to the tebulea if I spelled it right. See u soon Athena

My boyfriend and I eat here every once in a while (about once every few weeks) and EVERY single time we have fantastic service. We really love AJ to wait on us because he has a wonderful personality and is super efficient. I have been going to this Athena since I was about 18 years old. The service has definitely improved but the food has always remained 100% consistent and delicious. We always get lentil soup and combo plates. I am always pleased with my service and the quality of everything. Give them a try :)

I am a regular to Athena's. It is so yummy, and it never disappoints. The best hummus in the city, and the pita is always hot and soft when they bring it to the table. I don't know how they cook their egg plant sandwich but i order it every time, its SO delicious. I would recommend this very highly to a visitor.

Great food, fast service, and reasonable prices. Appetizer must: fried cheese. We kept the plate just to use for the oil for dipping pita in - yum! Combination and gyro plates were excellent. They don't serve alcohol (fine by us), but you can bring in your own bottle. Great find!

Ok first lets clear the air: This is not a Greek restaurant, there is nothing Greek about, not the decor or the food. Putting a Greek salad on the menu (actually they referred to it as a "Feta salad"), does not make it Greek. This is a Middle Eastern restaurant, not an issue, but should be forthcoming to patrons. Now I LOVE Middle Eastern food. Give me Baba, Kifta, Kabob, Pita, Mint Tea; char the meats over some coals and I am in heaven. Tough part is that it takes skill to form the patties to make a kifta and you have to know your way around the grill to make it sing in your mouth. On apps, while there are many recipes and each place has its own take on Baba, Hummus or grape leaves, there is usually some consistency on each dish. Service: Not too bad, but my server admitted to being new. Food: Oh my. Baba was stringy. Not sure what they do with eggplant here, but it was mush, with eggplant "veins". Not very good. Hummus lacked flavor and was either not fresh or from a can. My kabob combo had beef that was dry and lamb that had no seasoning or spices. Most places marinate lamb for kabobs, not sure its done here; as it had no flavor. The chicken was good, but with everything else around it poorly prepared, it did not matter much at this point. I left about 1/3 of my dinner behind. I believe there is another similar place somewhere in town, which I will have to try. Hopefully it will be better, but based on some of the reviews here, I am not sure the diners have a frame of reference. Finally, they have a patio tucked out in the back. Great if you want to rent the hookah, but not that great as the servers and patrons constantly opening the door bring in flying bugs into the restaurant.

The bf and I were visiting friends in Shreveport while in town for an interview, and Friday night we were looking for a place to eat before going to one of the casinos. Sometimes I have a preconceived notion about a town. And Shreveport wasn't at the top of my list of a city that might have a good restaurant. I mean come on, I don't know many people that would voluntarily live in Shreveport. But you do what you got to do. Our friends had eaten at this place before, and although it wasn't our first option, we decided to come here after our overwhelmingly crowded situation at our previous Mexican destination. Surprisingly, Athena Grill was quite tasty. We split the vegetarian combo plate, and everything was rather good. The falafel were probably some of the best I have had, if not the best. Not dry at all, and a good amount of flavor. The hummus was delicious as well as the baba g, nice and garlicky, but a little too oily. We did not like the grape leaves, and although the bf loves tabouli, he didn't really touch this one. Also, the salad that came out before the meal was great. I wouldn't mind eating that as a meal. All in all, a great little restaurant.

I'm an out of town visitor who looked online to find a restaurant to eat at and came across this place (on Urbanspoon, where the reviews were better than on Yelp). Anyway, I enjoyed my experience and really, really enjoyed the dish I ordered. I'm vegetarian, so I ordered the combination vegetarian plate (hummus, tabouleh, dolmas, falafel, and pita). The hummus was absolutely delicious (everything was, really), and the falafels were moist and yummy. It was just what i was in the mood for and I'm so glad I tried it! Oh, and the mango tea (fresh mango juice in sweet tea) was good, too! I did not try the hookah.

Love this place! Me and my husband always order the combo entree which included chicken shawerma, lamb/beef gryo meat, meat, rice, a big salad, and some appetizers. All of it is delicious!

This was a weekly lunch spot when I lived in Shreveport. We usually would get the fried eggplant and dolmas appetizers - both incredible - and then one entree of mousaka and share it all - sooooo good. Their pita is good and buttery and it was always a relaxing place to get away on my lunch break at work.

We have been been here a couple of times and the service and food has always been excellent. It's typical Mediterranean/Greek food (all nicely seasoned and cooked) and they have a nice little grocery in the back for the hard to find Mediterranean ingredients, should you want to make your own hummus or falafel at home. The wait staff is very attentive and friendly and the food is always fresh and delicious. My wife and I will be regular patrons of this place for a long time (as long as we live in the area).

Bf and I were in Shreveport for the night vandwelling while passing through toward Dallas. We drove into town and were hungry and the GPS led us to Athena. Modest looking place with one family eating there. We decided to stop in. I ordered Athena salad (was in the mood for greek salad) and bf ordered vegetarian combo plate. They said they were out of tabouli so subbed in salad. we weren't thrilled about lack of tabouli since that's a favorite salad. The pita was sub par. It was very thin yet tasty. I'm used to puffy, steamy, plump pita. And we didn't like not getting extra bread when we ran out. They also charged extra for a dish of oil we wanted to use to dip the pita in. we were not disappointed though. The food was delicious. baba ganoush was right on as well as grape leaves and hummus. my salad was a perfect ratio of feta/olives to fresh veggies and the dressing was delightful and light. And the service was attentive and responsive. as time passed, more young people trickled in. For what we had and not knowing the area at all, we were pleased with our dinner. As far as mediterranean places go, not the best and not the worst. And we were just travelers passing through so for locals, it may be a great place.

This is a great middle eastern/greek restaurant. I had their combination platter as an appetizer which was unbelievable. The baba ganoush and hummus were delicious and they provided plenty of pita bread. For the main course, I got the chicken shawarma which was cooked perfectly. However, the chicken was really more like chicken breast sliced into chunks. Not sliced off a giant slab of chicken into thin pieces which is how it's supposed to be. This came with even more hummus and more pita bread. I did not read the menu carefully to notice that I now had 2 service of hummus. However, that only made things more delicious. The service was a little slow. I ran out of water twice and they did not notice it even though the restaurant was not that packed. The waiters are very friendly and helpful and I will definitely be going back. There is a lot to park on and the price is not too expensive. Not a bad place to eat if you're in the area. Probably the second best middle eastern place to eat at in Shreveport.

I was hoping for a bit more from this place based on the other reviews. I thought the portions were very small, and that the hummus portion was very tiny and quite oily. Overall I was disappointed with my meal, and opted to go back to India's for dinner the next nights in town. There was zero ambiance in the restaurant - no music, no chatter nothing. It was like eating in a mausoleum. I couldn't recommend this place for dinner due to the lack of variety in vegetarian choices and the small portion sizes. It would have been a lot better with a little music, a little less fluorescent lighting and a heavier hand with the hummus.

Wife brought me a beef gyro from this place after she had lunch with a friend here. It was good and tasty and I liked it. It had a nice juciness and flavor. I've never been inside this place since it went Greek, but once upon a time, it was a Nicky's Mexican restaurant.

None of what I had here was OMGTHEBESTEVER but it was plenty yummy and was a welcome respite from the standard American fare we are usually subjected to on our trips to Shreveport. The grape leaves (meat) we ordered as an app were on the dry side and lacked the super tangy zip that I'm used to (I wish I knew what it was from - lemon maybe??) but that turned out to be a blessing because it made them a little more palatable to the less-adventurous-chicken-nuggets-and-french-fries segment of our group. The hummus was flavorful and rich, and the Grecian dip was good as well. The gyro sandwich was tender and juicy, and was big enough that I could only eat half after all was said and done. In hindsight, I should have just ordered that and split it with the kiddo, but TRUST - I definitely went after those leftovers later that day! The Lebanese tea was decent, but not as rosey (ha) as I'm accustomed to. The service was friendly and capable, and they accommodated our group of 11 with no problem in the large room to the left as you walk in the front door. There were only a few other people there, which I found odd since it was 12:30, but I can't complain because it meant we got seated as soon sa they could get some tables pulled together and everything was fast coming out of the kitchen. There was a bar of some sort (?) to the right when you first walk in, and according to the website there's even a small grocery store at the back but I was so focused on filling the belleh that I don't go exploring. There was a TV in the room we were in, tuned in to what seemed to be an Arabic music video station that was a little fuzzy and only in BW, with the music being piped to the rest of the restaurant from what I gathered. Interesting; I was thrilled to not be forced to sit through the crap that normally plays on TV. Decor was minimal and atmosphere was a little "meh" but the stained glass windows near the entrance were cool and I really loved all the bright blue painton the walls and the cool recessed areas in the ceilings. Decent Mediterranean food at a decent price. Not too shabby considering only-decent-Mediterranean is head and shoulders above most food for me. :)

I really like this place, I can't begin to list everything that i have had because I keep going there at least once every couple of weeks, we took my sister in law there when she was in town and she liked it so much now every time she visits she wants to eat there. The staff is very friendly, the portions are pretty good size I almost always have leftovers. I like their little grocery area in the back so I can get some bulgarian feta cheese which is very difficult to find in this town. I would definitely recommend you won't be disappointed.

I've been to Athena several times on past visits to Shreveport. All of those visits have been for lunch: once alone, twice with a friend (one of those times also included the toddler or the friend), and once with the parents. Each time, I have always wondered why it isn't more crowded. They offer excellent lunch specials with a large amount of very tasty, well-prepared middle eastern fare for a fantastic price. I would rate all of those previous visits with a firm five stars. And I am always glad to see a tasty, NON-CHAIN, independently owned restaurant in Shreveport. My parents and I decided to try it for dinner on a Wednesday night in late December. We had high hopes since we'd previously loving it so much at lunch. When we arrived, I think there was one other table occupied. The hostess/waitress/multi-tasker took a minute or two to appear. I requested a table for three. She started to gather menus. Then the phone rang. I gather that someone was placing a to-go order. She basically then proceeded to ignore us and take a very long time with the person on the phone (as opposed to quickly placing that person on hold in order to seat the people that were standing in front of her). It was probably rather apparent that we were irritated after several minutes. She flagged down the one other waiter there (who has just squeezed right past me in a very small space without saying "excuse me" in order to deliver food to a table) and made him get on the phone so that she could seat us. He was clearly very irritated about this. Bad start. I could tell that my parents were clearly hoping that our first minutes wouldn't set the tone for the whole meal. It turned out that the woman who'd ignored us would also be our server. Great. She got a bit better. Our drink orders came out quickly. We all ordered the same thing for our entrees, the sauteed shrimp (My parents had it before at lunch even though it's not on the lunch menu). It comes with a salad and just after placing our order, my mother realized that she hadn't asked for dressing on the side. The server was nowhere to be seen. OK, that's a lie. There's a mirror and I could see her, but she hadn't looked up and noticed us since she'd just taken our orders. So, I got up to make the special request, which I then heard her go back to the kitchen to put in. The salads came out, all three fully-dressed. So, we sent that one back. It was replaced quickly. I love the salad here. It's a nice mix of greens with a tomato or two, a generous amount of feta, kalamata olives (though I always wish for more), a nice dressing, and dusted with olive powder. Fresh pita (of the Lebanese or Syrian variety; it's a bit thinner than other varieties) came out as well. Our entrees were superb, even if perhaps not prepared with "light oil" as we'd requested. It's a really good amount of very fresh, very well prepared shrimp for the price. The vegetables are tasty as is the rice. And there's a nice amount of house-made hummus on the plate as well, with olive oil and a dollop of peppers in the middle. Yum. Refills were always quickly offered and our request for more pita was heeded quickly. The food here is excellent and at lunch or dinner, a great value (and we even had a coupon this time that they'd given me on a previous lunch visit, making it even better). I plan on returning again. I just hope that the service issues were a one time fluke. The food really makes the restaurant merit lots of patronage.
