This is my absolute go to place for American Mexican food. The steak in the beef fajitas is cooked to perfection. .. so tender and juicy. The staff is always friendly and on top of things. Foods comes out very quick and nothing less than perfection.

Food is always fresh. This visit we had the chicken fajitas and the carne asada....both had very good flavor and hot.

Pretty good. Kids eat free on Tuesday and there is a clown making animal balloons. Pretty cool, the kids love it.

Went here tonight for dinner. Customer service was excellent. Sometimes great service can trump good food. The food here is always pretty good if you like this style of Mexican, but our service today from our waitress was excellent. Also the staff on hand were great all around tonight. Very friendly! We were quite pleased with our visit this Monday evening. I would recommend this place for a casual dining experience.

Las Palmas was a great place to eat 12+ years ago. Over the last 5+ years their quality has tanked. Chips often taste as though they were fried in old grease, ground meat is not drained well and the taco shells are cheap and not made in house. My advice is if you want Mexican go to a restaurant owned by Hispanics and get authentic, fresh food.

It's been about 9 months or so since my last review of this place and since I am the Duke and my original review was pretty terse I figured I might as well update... I've been seeing a bunch of reviews of Mexican places kvetching and moaning about places that aren't "authentic" Mexican, whatever the hell that is!!! I lived in Wyoming for 8+ years and all they had was bland "authentic" Mexican the only thing SPICY or en fuego (that could match the heat of Tex-Mex I grew up on in LA) was the Pork Green Chile....and I did develop a deep and abiding love for it and wish I could find some of it down here cause I truly miss it as well as the El Conquistador in Laramie, WY which in my opinion was the best place to get it!!! Apologies for the digression.... I was raised on TEX-MEX (which is and always has been the Americanized version of "authentic" Mexican) as it was called when I was but wee tadpole in this great state and that's what I still love and prefer to this day!!! I like the spicy and the kick that it delivers over my experience with "authentic" Mexican!! This restaurant does the Tex-Mex thing, it's a local chain in the Baton Rouge area (3-4 restaurants) and I really have no complaints of the food they serve as I have always found it to be well prepared and delicious, whether it is the simple beef nachos, the bacon wrapped shrimp, the beef fajitas, the enchiladas etc....The one complaint is they could spark up their sauces that they put over their enchiladas... The salsa, or as I call it hot sauce, is a little kicky and the chips are warm and crispy...the locale in Geismar/Dutchtown in Oak Plaza is one big roomy place with a half wall that separates the bar area but seriously nobody comes here to just drink at the bar....The staff is always accomodating to large groups (excess of 6)...they have maybe 6 booths by the bar and the rest are tables in the main dining area.... The place is always busy, if not downright packed, this place is straightforward, not gonna do anything fancy, Tex-Mex food and damn reasonably priced!! The only thing that keeps it from a 5 star is the fact that their cerveza selection is limited and if they had Sol then it woudl be a 5-er!! The family of mine, meaning the sisters, are MARGARITA afficianados and they proclaim the ones here stack up as the best against any other Mex place in the Greater Baton Rouge area and they've tried them all...I don't drink 'em so I defer to their expertise and make note of it for any fellow Yelpers who might check out this review.... In closing, stop on in and get your belly full with a good meal and an adult libation of your choice and for all those "authentic" Mexican folks drop me a note when you have found a place (and you have actually tried) that serves Cabrito tacos (Goat meat tacos) until then pipe down and eat your hot sauce!!!

Surprisingly good. Was expecting an average Americanized mexican food, but the steak was cooked as if it was being done at a hispanic home. Will for sure be back to try the fajitas.

There are a bunch of Las Palmas around the greater Baton Rouge area, so it's clear that people like them. But personally, I've never understood the unrequited love that Baton Rougeans express for this chain. To me, it is basic, uninspired, Americanized Tex-mex fare. I come here a fair amount, but that's mostly because Dutchtown continues to be mostly devoid of decent dining options. The restaurant is in a strip mall, but inside, it is similar to the other freestanding Las Palmas locations. I've found the staff to be nice but not overly gracious. "Inventive" is probably the last word that would come to mind when you examine the menu. The standards are all there, and little else. But even then, the menu (to me) seems a little heavy on stuff that relies on generic ground beef and/or chicken. I will say that I enjoy Las Palmas' chips and salsa. The chips are not consistently great, but I am a fan of the smooth salsa. To sum up, Las Palmas is unlikely to offend - they've been doing this for a long time, and it's hard to get over-extended when you're doing basic fajitas, burritos and enchiladas. But to call the food "great" is a huge stretch.

The chips and salsa here great. Food is pretty and the prices are reasonable. The only thing that I dislike are the refried beans, they're a little runny for my taste. Overall, I'd reccomend coming here. I do pretty frequently.

This is one of my favorite Mexican joints. Been going to their Prairieville location for years. Now their fairly new Dutchtown one is a must once a week. Love their waitors... very friendly and helpful. They always remember what we want every time we go. Queso is great! There's nothing bad on the menu... never been unhappy.

Meh. There's nothing outstanding or special about this place. Move along.

Nice place, casual, good service. I like the Lite Bite--wheat tortillas and either steak, chicken, or shrimp fajita meat that is chopped and cooked a bit with salsa, then plated with grilled veggies and guacamole. It's so good I make my own version at home now when we grill. Good margaritas.

Great Mexican food. Great service. Kids eat free on Tuesday night. Homemade salsa. Everything is good from the crunchy tacos to the bacon wrapped shrimp. Margaritas are very good. Enjoy during happy hour. Causal. Very clean and nice.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
