Easily the best meal I've had in as long as I can remember. We picked the place based on these reviews as my sister and I live in north Louisiana but not in Monroe. We read that duck wraps were not to be missed and so we ordered those. Wow! Great stuff. The duck fat fries...also fantastic....crispiest, most flavorful fries ever! Then we had shrimp and grits for the meal. Brought home leftovers, but it wasn't because it wasn't delicious! Best I've had and I'm a recent transplant from a lot of years in south Louisiana! We had the Mississippi Mud Pie for dessert and it really was an upgrade to all if had previously. Very rich, but the salty meringue really balanced the dish and made it perfect.

All I heard was eat at Cottons, well I did and I can check that off my list! Not impressed at all. I think people rave about it because the chef has won awards for his cooking. I have eaten much better meals locally that where prepared and served better.

Wow. Wow. Wow. Great ambiance, impeccable service, and great food. - blue crab gnocchi (4.5/5): truffle oil is strong w this one. Soft gnocchi, very rich; - roasted oyster (4/5): garlicky goodness; - raw oysters (4/5): clean tasting Louisiana oysters, had better in New Orleans but darn good here also; - shrimp and grits (4/5): very umami tasting, rich but good with bread; - Brussels (3.5/5): please please try to cook this dish with brussel halves, I think it would be better than the flakes. This restaurant is what I call a serendipity.

First time patron, but we'll definitely be back! The duck wraps were absolutely delicious. I ordered the Shrimp and Grits after reading previous reviews of others on Yelp, but my husband and I ended up swapping entrees so that I could sample his trio of beef. Incredible! The steak was a tad too salty for my taste (understand that we've cut back at home and prefer less salt than most), but each topping was superb. When returning, we'll definitely branch out and order a different entree to sample, but the duck wraps were absolutely superb. My Dad has made these for years, but Cory adds a perfect balance of tanginess and sweetness that add something extra! (Sorry, Dad!) The only reason I couldn't give a "5 star" Yelp rating was that the restaurant's popularity prevented us from reservations any later than 5:00. I had to adjust my normal mealtimes throughout the day in order to be hungry for supper reservation. Since it was just my husband and I, we had a table for two next to the hostesses and front door. :( Two houseflies prevented me from perfectly enjoying my experience, but the food, decor, service, and cocktails helped keep my experience a good one. So happy to have this quality chef and venue in our area!!!

Oh my gosh this place I phenomenal! The pickled fried okra and duck fries....the fresh muddled drinks....muuuuwaaa. Then the soft shell crab and to top it all off the strawberry rhubarb pie with the lemon curd ice cream is to die for....so good I will come back every chance I get.

We stopped by on a road trip from TX to GA after reading so many great reviews here on Yelp. We were not disappointed. The dick wraps are a must. The flavors are wonderful. We also had the blueberry salad, a seasonal offering, but so good I'm sure whatever salad they have will be delicious. After enjoying those dishes, my friend and I shared the shrimp & grits. More than enough food for the 2 of us. Everything we had was fantastic! The service and ambiance were great as well. I highly recommend stopping if you happen to be driving through Monroe!

Delicious lunch at Cotton. Shrimp and Grits, BBQ and duck wraps were so tasty. We were lucky to bump into this restaurant. Worth it.

After reading the great reviews, we were looking forward to trying this place. We went there for lunch today. Even though the restaurant wasn't full the service was terrible! First off, it took 30 minutes for waiter just to take our order and we waited 1.5 hrs to eat. Our food came out cold and incorrect. Spoke to manage and he only offered to take off the fries (which was supposed to be included in meal) and one meal that came out with pork, but was requested to be vegetarian. We were charged for 5 meals, but it was only 4 of us!! Needless to say, terrible service, ok food.

I'm in town for work and so don't know too much regarding Monroe. Yelp drew me here and again...yelp did not disappoint First off, the restaurant is beautiful and large, in a converted house? Who ever designed the interior should get an award...it was sophisticated while at the same time comfortable and cozy....and tough feat to accomplish. Its in downtown Monroe, which seems to be in some sort of transformation from commercial to residential. Its gotta be so people can live close to Cotton! The food was top notch, as were the drinks. Prices were consistent with those found in NOLA for similar types of food and drink, so I don't know if that means Cotton is pricey for the area...but I would assume so. If I were local (and not associated with the Duck Dynasty clan) this place would probably be a special occasion restaurant a closer third dinner date! I got the fries for a starter (duck fat of course) and the fillet three ways for dinner. Both were spot on, with each petite fillet having a different flavor component. The menu is diverse, with a focus on southern flavors. If your in Monroe it is a must try...you will be glad you did.

Cory Bahr is a brilliant culinary mind, and his flagship restaurant shows it. The food is brilliant. Service is second to none here. The ambiance makes for a very special, unique dining experience. Best bar in town. This is the ONLY place to stretch one's whiskey tastes in this area.

Came here for Valentines day, they were professional and fast as always.. Tried out some new stuff, we had the following: - Louisiana Blue Crab - potato gnocchi, tasso, thyme, white truffle, parmesan - light and delicious, with the right amount of truffle - North Delta Shrimp & Grits - louisiana shrimp and andouille on arkansas grits - delicious and tasty, and shrimp are juicy - Trio of Beef Filet - beef three way, béarnaise, bacon-bleu cheese crust, slow cooked beef debris, on caramelized onion mashed potatoes - this was not good to me at all, flavors are pretty one dimension, wouldn't eat this again This is still one of my favorite place to eat in Monroe.

  • Craig B.

The love the classic Louisiana vibe this place embraces. I give it five stars for the ambience. I enjoyed the chill jazz playing and are at the bar. The known plate, shrimp and grits was good. It was not great. Served a bit cold and no bun or bread of any sort to help soak up the sauce. I would like it to be a bit thicker, too. They had great local beer choices on tap. This place is a cool SPOT to hit when in... Monroe, LA

Cotton has developed the reputation of the being the only "real" restaurant in the Monroe area. Located in a historic building on the river, it has a terrific decor and ambiance. The service was excellent. The duck wraps, as many have mentioned here, were first rate and a wonderful starter. My pork chop, while flavorful, was overdone, and I found the side dish a bit off-putting. However, my wife's brioche-covered fish was very good, I will probably get that next time. Dessert was bread pudding, very well done, highly recommended. I had a whiskey smash, one of their specialty cocktails, and while it was a bit sweeter than I would normally order, it was very good and served generously. My wife "Perfect Margarita" did a very job of living up to that lofty title. All in all, a very good restaurant with a cool atmosphere. As close to a "must visit" as you will find in Monroe.

I had lunch today that I expected to be great like dinner service. Our food came out cold and uncooked two different times. The service was poor and terribly slow and we were told some important guests were being served upstairs as an excuse without us even asking. If you have important guests close and serve them. Don't charge me full dollar for half efforts.

If you haven't tried this place you should certainly check it out. I'm not going to say that it was some perfect dining experience, although I must say that the combination of atmosphere, very good service, what our party considered delicious food, and especially great friends equalled a 5 star evening for my wife's birthday. Being there were six of us, we made reservations via Open Table. We were seated immediately upon our arrival in what we thought was a great spot for us. Our primary server's name was Betsy and she and the other staff were more than cordial & accommodating. In regards to the food, we join in the chorus of all the other reviews singing praises of the duck wraps! We also enjoyed the deviled eggs, baked oysters & crab ghotcchi. All our entrées were both interesting & delicious. Southern food with an attitude! We appreciate what Chef Corey Barr is doing in our community and we recommend Cotton Restaurant.

I was there on 5/23. We order Duck Fries, Roasted Oysters, Duck, Quail, and catfish. - Duck Fries cooked with Duck fat - Nothing to quack about. Five Guys fries tasted better than your fries and don't need dipping sauce. - Roasted Oysters - Though oysters was fresh, the bread crumbs are too oily. Looks like someone just put too much oil to roast the oysters. Good chef pay attention to what they put in. No quality control! - Duck - A bit on the sweet side. Nice display but food not that good. - Quail - A bit salty on the crumb. Again no quality control! - Catfish - OK but Catfish is better. Over all service is ok, food not ok. I tasted better with this kind of price.

This place was ok... Decent food, friendly service, and reasonably priced. Good seafood selections and decent steaks. Has a chain restaurant type atmosphere but they have some good shrimp and grits and some knowledgeable bartenders

I had the pleasure of eating here and at the sister restaurant Nonna during my recent visit to Northern Louisiana. I thought Cotton was adorable inside and out. Service at Cotton was pleasant and punctual and our servers offered great suggestions and were prompt with drinks. Our servers knew the menu well and we really enjoyed our suggested apps. We all had the specials which included Steak Frites with duck fat fried potatoes and a pan seared salmon. Both were incredible and we were all very pleased. The butterscotch banana bread pudding for dessert was a perfect treat.

We had a great experience last week. Duck rolls are awesome, soft bread with strawberry butter, brûlée bleu cheese sirloin with duck fat fries, and couchon de lait with sweet potato purée and collard greens. We really enjoyed it!

The entire dining experience was without exception, superlative. The atmosphere is attractive and relaxing and comfortable and although it looks like it might be noisy, it is not, even with a full dining room. The menu offers interesting choices and everything I ordered arrived plated to perfection and fresh from the kitchen. A respectable wine selection. My only complaint, and it's not a real complaint, is that I live 400+ miles away and am unlikely to return to Monroe any time soon. I ordered the chicken fried quail with cheddar waffles and collards and duck fat fries and fried pickled okra.

Bacon wrapped stuffed jalapeño must have. Cushion de las (yes miss spelled it) so moist and tender. The straberry rubarb pie ok. Beer was not Cold enough.

Went here late, just to enjoy a good home made dessert. Ordered the Banana Foster Bread Pudding. They brought the wrong item, Banana Butterscotch Bread Pudding. They said keep it, will bring out the other. It turned out to be fabulous. Then they brought out what I ordered the Banana Foster Bread Pudding, it was beyond fabulous. One of the best bread puddings I've ever had. Can't recommend enough. Will be back for the full coarse meal, entrees. The atmosphere has an unique vibe. The decour is elegant yet southern. A classy restaurant with a creative chef with their signature dishes.

I can't believe Monroe has a gem like this!!!!!!! I live in New Orleans and this place is just.....superb!!! Let's get this straight. i don't like bacon. It smells too porky. My whole life, I never preferred to eat it. I never choose it and sometimes I'll pull it off my burger, my plate, what not. Ever since I ate at Cotton, I CRAVE THE DUCK WRAPS (it's wrapped with bacon). I came with a group of friends and they ordered it so I decided to try one. Wow. I'm salivating now as I type.... Now I know what the bacon hype in life is like! But my obsession is just the bacon that Cotton delivers. Amazing. I really enjoyed everything we ordered here. I tasted almost everything (my friends and I order different entrees and share). The grouper was delicious. The trio of filet was good too, but beware, one is topped with a lot of bleu cheese (which I do like, but many find hard to take in). The pork chop was okay. I wouldn't order it again. I also love the DUCK FAT FRIES! Phenomenal. I love truffle fries, garlic fries, any kind of fries. The duck fat fries here are just so, good. Drinks that were pretty good: Pimm's cup and Honeysuckle drink. I also had a glass of Pinot that was delicious. This place is just, wonderful. I'm so glad it's here, but I'm so sad that I'm almost done with school and won't ever find a need to come back to Monroe, if ever. Maybe Cotton will be the reason one day.........

Stopped in on our way from Dallas to Montgomery, very good and certainly a nice break. We started with the duck wraps, so delicious! Bacon wrapped duck breast with cheese topped with a jalapeño infused honey.....WOOT! For lunch my wife had their shrimp & grits and they were excellent. I had this pulled pork served on a fresh biscuit, topped with poached quail eggs and truffled hollandaise....quite yummy as well! This would have been a solid 5 stars except for one criticism....our entrees were not as hot as they should have been. Never the less, we will certainly be back next time we are passing through Monroe!

From start to finish it was great! The raw oysters were fresh and great taste. The burger was so juicy and messy which means awesome burger! The fried strawberry and rhubarb pie with Lemon Curd ice cream was a great finish! Sat at the bar and had great service!

I'm so glad we stopped here. We did not have a reservation, so we probably had about a 30 minute wait. So, ummm ... Get a reservation. We ended up sitting in a bar upstairs that backs to the river. Lovely! Unfortunately, the weather did not permit us to sit on the outdoor patio. This restaurant is in an old building on the corner. You may not see the sign at first -- we didn't. It is a dark vertical sign that hangs on the corner of the building. There is no sign at all on the door. The Louisiana Strawberry salad is uh-may-zing! Get it! And don't share! I mean that! I also had the grits and collards. Not being Cajun, I prefer my collards without spice, but they were still enjoyable. The grits were too salty - and I'm a salt lover. Hubby had the Pork Belly - yummy! And, the Shrimp & Grits - Spicy! Service was slow - I'm not sure whether that is a common problem. I would definitely return here -- preferably, with a reservation.

Have eaten here several times in the past 6 months, each meal was fantastic, the service was excellent, and the drinks were creative and delicious. The atmosphere is also quite good, a comfortable rustic motif, which you can tell was carefully designed and executed. I've had their steak, pork chops, duck fries, duck wraps, asparagus, and their burger (which was attractively priced comparatively to the rest of the menu) and nothing disappointed. In fact, I count these meals to be among some of the best I've ever had. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who visits Monroe, for

Traveled to Dallas for a sporting event and stopped into Cotton on the way home. By this time, we really hadn't had great food b/c we all know food at sporting events isn't so great. I had also been deprived of good coffee! Walked into Cotton for brunch and was transported back in time. The building is a converted cotton exchange and was beautiful w high ceilings and Corinthian columns. Our waiter offered to brew me a fresh cup of coffee when i mentioned my lack of good coffee. The food was wonderful and i wanted to try so many more things on the inventive menu. We tried the pimento and cheese burger and shrimp and grits. Don't hesitate to stop in!

Fresh ingredients, a delightfully creative menu. The service here is hit or miss depending on the waiter and how busy they are. Try the duck wraps. They are fantastic! The first time I came I had the ribeye that was seasoned perfectly but a little fatty for my liking. The second time it was just plain WONDERFUL!! The food is really top notch and Cotton is a great place to eat in Monroe. One of the best!

Best shrimp & grits I've ever had in North Louisiana. Cotton brings a great flavor to downtown Monroe. You could taste the freshness in the shrimp and the andouille made a great compliment to the cheese infused grits. I also tried the duck wraps. They. Were. AMAZING. It was my first time trying duck and may I say that it was a very pleasant introduction. I disliked that I wasn't given ice for my water and my coworker order the chicken & seafood gumbo which looked awfully thin, watery like to be "gumbo". The staff was quick in correcting the soupy gumbo, so that was a plus in an awkward situation for such a great restaurant. Overall, I enjoyed the experience and look forward to returning and telling friends about this hidden gem.

My family, including 2 young children, visited Cotton for the second time last night. More than half of the seats were empty (entire center section and 3 side tables). Nobody was waiting for a seat. We were told by the hostess that they couldn't seat us for over an hour. I inquired about the empty tables and was told they weren't available. Looked like they didn't have enough servers. We left and went to a competing restaurant and had a great dinner. This morning, I left some negative feedback on their Facebook page. Their response was that they honor reservations first and that I should call ahead next time. Again, nobody else was waiting for a seat and over half of the seats were empty. They are quite content with losing walk-in customers just to accommodate those with reservations. I replied that other restaurants have learned to manage walk-in guests and reservations and not lose customers. Their response was to thank me for the input and delete my posts!! Sure, I could have made reservations. However, this restaurant is in downtown Monroe, LA. It's not exactly the same scene as NYC. You just don't turn away a family that's actually standing in your restaurant just in case some reservations show up (and on time). "Chef" Cory Bahr is the one responsible for the insincere posts and deleting critical posts about his restaurant. This egotistical "chef" doesn't need anyone's business so don't give him any.

This has got to be my favorite place in north louisiana! The food is always on point and perfect. I love eating here or sitting at the bar and getting some appetizers. There salad is always delicious and I'm not really a salad person. It usually has creative toppings and grilled fruit and is oh so amazing. The shrimp and grits is awesome, the cornbread, pepper jelly and crackers. These are just some of my favorites. The cocktails are pricey but nothing like you've had before. I think everything here is worth the price tag. And don't think about leaving without trying their superb perfectly concocted desserts! Mmm I can't wait for my next visit back.

I've eaten at Cotton three times now. I've also had drinks and apps here a number of times. I'm not sure I'll be coming back, except to stop in for a cocktail and maybe an app when it gets colder. Let's start with the good: the atmosphere is great. Great ambiance, the decor is spot on, and the whole restaurant is gorgeous, inside and out. It's not anything super special or unique, but it's done well, and that's the important part. The drinks are also quite good. Their signature cocktails are well-thought-out and well-executed. The appetizers are also quite good, although some are hit-or-miss. The crab gnocchi, for instance, have been good twice and not so good twice. The bartenders are friendly, as is the wait-staff, and I have never been there and not been seated immediately. It's a great place to go and hang out for a couple of hours and have some drinks and appetizers. Now the bad: The food has consistently gotten worse with every subsequent visit. To date, I've had the filet trio, the blackened redfish, and the brunch pork entree. The filet was bland, flavorless, and not cooked terribly well, while the sauces poured over them were overwhelming and over-seasoned. The redfish was utterly unseasoned on one side, and salted half to death on the other. The brunch pork plate (don't remember exactly what it was) was over-salted, but otherwise lacking in any flavor, complexity, or subtlety. The sides were ok, but again seasoned to death. I have heard that Chef Cory Bahr has specifically told his chefs to put way more salt and seasoning on dishes than was needed in order to accommodate the unsophisticated palettes of the people of North-East Louisiana. Which is sort of a travesty, and a bit of an affront to cuisine. The restaurant is also half-empty all the time. This is a good thing on one hand, since there's never much of a wait (except for brunch), and a bad thing on the other since it feels a little empty. I like sitting at the bar and talking to people, but there are almost never any people at the bar after 8pm or so. With the space being so large, this just heightens the empty feeling. Still, I will probably go back for drinks. I might even et an appetizer or two. It's still one of the best places in the Monroe area, but that's not exactly a high compliment. Were this restaurant located in a metropolitan area where there were other choices for upscale casual dining, I would probably have gone with two stars. Since it isn't, I'll go ahead and give it the extra star to reflect it's status as the best Monroe has to offer. How Cory Bahr managed to win on Chopped is beyond me.

Stopped on our way through Monroe going from Jackson to Dallas. Called when we were 5 minutes away and Lance Zeigler got us in no problem. So many excellent choices it was too hard to choose but the wait and kitchen staff accommodated us by mixing two half order appetizers together - deviled eggs & pimento cheese beignets. DELICIOUS! We also indulged in the bacon wrapped Muscovy which were also incredibly awesome. For dinner my husbands had the 72 hour short ribs, they were almost as rich as a dessert and the accompaniments were also excellent. I had the filet which was nicely accented with whole peppercorn. Another nice touch that was appreciated was they have staff that actually bring the food to the table which gets it to you faster than if your wait staff were to bring it to you. This also allows the wait staff to focus on tending to their customers. The decor of the restaurant adds to its character and charm. All in all it was a great meal and experience.

We loved the décor! I had the blue crab gnocchi, it was wonderful! Our waiter was great, we had a lot of questions and he was very informative. The great ambiance will bring us back in fact we are going back there (we are from out of state) and for our 2nd wedding anniversary which is cotton for your second year, we are going to Cotton! How fitting!

Visiting a client. They recommended this great restaurant. Great ambiance! Fun decor in a beautiful old building along the river. Food was great. Had a big party so we could see many dishes. The red fish and summer salad was delicious. Moist and perfectly seasoned. Other dishes included shrimp and grits, pork chop, and quail. Crab appetizer amazing!! Desserts?? OMG!! Fried peach pie, creame brûlée bread pudding and butterscotch banana pudding. All delicious. But fried peach pie the best!!!

Wow. We were driving through Louisiana and wanted a taste of Southern/Cajun food rather than a fast food joint. I know, I know. New Orleans is on the other side of the state. Still, we decided to see if we could find something good. Cotton popped up on Yelp so we got off the highway and stopped for lunch. Wow. AMAZING food. My husband swooned over the bacon wrapped duck. The shrimp and grits were so flavorful. Everything we had was perfect. The service was attentive and professional, the space feels posh, and all in all we were very impressed.

When did it become okay to put up photos of Black people picking cotton? That's not the reminder I wanted while I was eating, even when I'm from Mississippi where cotton is king. I just couldn't understand that part. The potato salad was the only thing that we ordered that I think was worth trying. Hate to say, but I've tried everything else (meatloaf, oyster poboy) in a cheap diner that tasted twice as good.

This place never disappoints! On my road trip to Mardi Gras this year, I decided to make a stop at this place with a bunch of my friends after some diamond digging in Arkansas. It was a long 5 hour drive to for us to get here, but after eating here, they all agreed it was worth the drive. Definitely a diamond in the rough! This time around, I had the braised pork shank. The portions were HUGE! Boy was I glad to have my friends to help to finish this big dish. The skin had a good crisp to it and the meat was nice and tender. The black eyed peas and grits that the pork shank rested on had some heat to it that complemented the meat quite well. The Louisiana Blue Crab is definitely a good appetizer to start with. There was a lot of crab meat coupled with the potato gnocchi. Great ambience and friendly service puts this place to 5 stars on my book and a must visit when I am in this area!

I joined some friends on a recent visit to northeast Louisiana for the holidays and this was where we decided to go. This was my first time to dine here at Cotton and, while we had a rocky start to our visit, all ended up well. Upon arrival, there was no record of our reservation and we were told we couldn't be accommodated. We were offered their sincerest apologies for the mix-up but a table was not possible at that point. Instead of leaving, we elected to stay and eat at the bar, which is full service. After ordering drinks and an appetizer, a manager walked up and whispered something into a bartender's ear. Then we and the other guests at the bar were collectively told by the bartender that he was to inform us that anyone ordering food from the bar would be subject to a one hour wait, as they were prioritizing tables over the bar. The restaurant was winding down at this time and there were actually empty tables. After some debate, we decided to call their bluff and were glad we did. The appetizers were out in 10 minutes and our food was out in 20. The specialty drinks on the menu don't follow traditional recipes and are their own versions of your favorites. The Pimm's Cup - which I was surprised to find on the menu - doesn't even come close to what an actual Pimm's Cup should be, but it is very tasty. The overwhelming cucumber flavor was a bit much. The drinks are all overly sweet with a lot of simple syrup and my glass and paper menu were both sticky. The descriptions of the drinks are ambiguous and it's not clear what they're making most of them with. In addition, the bartenders are young and appear inexperienced, unable to prepare even the most simple items without referring to a book. That's fine, but at this price range I'd expect at least one bartender behind the bar with more experience in mixology to mentor the up-and-comers. These two were heavy on the flare but lacking in the most basic knowledge. Perhaps the use of house recipes for otherwise common drinks threw them off. A bloody mary was a challenge. They do have a very decent beer selection, draft and bottle, as well as a lot of fine and not-so-fine wines by the glass. If you come here to drink, you'll find something nice, I'm sure. We had the muscovy duck wraps and the pimento cheese beignets for appetizers. Both were delicious although portions were small. The duck wraps were divine, but I've had similar experiences shooting my own ducks out of the sky, wrapping them with bacon and filling with cream cheese and cooking in the oven. I've never had duck wraps anywhere outside of my kitchen during hunting season. Nonetheless, I was glad to see it on the menu...a nice local touch that I doubt would be found outside of Monroe and well-prepared. I had the Venison Schnitzel and it was very good. It was difficult to tell that it was not pork. Or maybe it was pork and they've got us all fooled. Either way, it was delicious and well-prepared. The grits were hearty and the collard green slaw was nice. Everything was very well-matched. The sauce was a bit on the sweet side, but it all went well together. Portions were on the small side for each of us in my party. Overall, on a national scale, this place just doesn't stack up to finer dining you'd find in major cities; how could it? If you put this same restaurant in a place like New Orleans, Los Angeles, or San Francisco, it wouldn't make it. However, this is Monroe and Cotton makes a great effort and it's admirable that anyone would make a restaurant like this here. The facility is beautiful and well-done and I don't think you could actually do a restaurant like this in Monroe any better than they've done here. I don't envy a chef trying to operate a fine restaurant in this part of Louisiana or this part of the country for that matter. In terms of finding qualified wait staff, bartenders, and kitchen staff, the pickings are obviously slim and I could not possibly fathom how they staff a place like this. It's refreshing that the owner would stick his neck out and make something like this happen for Monroe. Looking at this place for what it is, where it is, I'd say it's a very decent restaurant and a safe pick for a nice dinner out. If you're looking for finer dining in Monroe, you've found your place. Keep your expectations in line with where you're at and you'll do fine. And, last but not least, the service was excellent. Guten appetit!

I'm not a 5 star guy. But this place hits it. In Monroe on business sat at the bar, the food is first rate. The ambiance and service fabulous. Muscovy duck wraps are great, wrapped in quality bacon, not just a bunch of fat, the shrimp and grits the best I have ever had and I have lived in east Texas and traveled in Louisiana a good deal. I will be back!

It's hard not to give this place 5 stars. Service is fantastic (love their uniforms). Unique atmosphere (old southern feel). You will not get these tastes anywhere else. Chicken and waffles with a soothing ale makes your Saturday just that much better. The gulf fish was also on point with a nice kick.

One of the best if not the best in Monroe. Duck wrapped Jalapeño are to die for and the Panko crusted Drum was light and savory. Great place for entertaining clients.

Where on earth did this place come from? On one hand I'm glad you're here because it gives me quality food and drink while I'm visiting Monroe. On the other hand you need to pack up and move to Kansas City so I can eat here everyday! The building and atmosphere is modern and moody being that this is an old cotton mill (hence the name) Everyone will inform you that the dude the runs it won some contest on tv. I cut my cable over a decade ago so this is lost on me. I judge him completely on what he brings to the table here. He's a winner in my book and I hope this little town appreciates what he is doing. Pretty much everything on the menu has bacon except the salads. Well maybe they do too but I didn't order it. Right off the bat I observed the copper Moscow Mule mugs so I ordered on up. Excellent. The duck wraps and deviled eggs were filling and I almost didn't have room for the main course. Redfish. I'm not a fish fan so I have no idea how the waiter talked me into it. I wasn't disappointed. We finished with dessert which I don't even remember what it was. I remember I ate it all and didn't share with anyone.

This place was absolutely amazing. Stopped here on a business trip. Ordered the strawberry salad and the fish of the day. I requested the fish with only "veggies" (can't have carbs)... This was seriously one of the most amazing dishes I've had. The veggies that came with the fish was a coleslaw that beats any other coleslaw. It was seriously an explosion of flavor in my mouth. This is southern/local food done right!! My only regret is not ordering TWO of these plates! And if it had not been for the flight I had to catch, I would most definitely ordered the second plate to go! It doesn't hurt that the place features a wicked cool shabby chic design. Loved the tables, finishes, lighting fixtures, and how well they renovated this building. LOVE LOVE LOVE!

We have one of the best dining experiences ever last night at Cotton. The food was beyond phenomenal. We always order the Duck Wraps and they never disappoint. We also love the hummus & the Strawberry Spinach Salad. I had the Ribeye and I do believe it was one of the best steaks I have ever had. It was cooked to perfection (medium rare). Scott's Porterhouse Pork Chop was perfect as well. Both dishes were very juicy & cooked to perfection (yes, I know I already said it but when it is perfect you have to let the world know!) The flavors explode in your mouth. Dessert is always hard to choose. I got the Bananas Foster Bread Pudding and I was not disappointed. Chef Cory's creations are always amazing! The Old Smoky is a favorite drink of Scotts when we go to Cotton. He likes it a little less sweet than the original version. The wait staff was wonderful new never wanted for anything but we never felt like they were hovering. The steak is wonderful the second day as well. (Typing as I enjoy my leftovers here) It was really cool to have Chef Bahr stop by our table and ask how everything was. Thanks again Cotton for a wonderful evening!!

My wife and I came here from out of town, this was the closest spot that wd could go so w decided to give it a shot. The atmosphere.is a bit upscale than xpected. Seeing how it was lunchtime it was mostly business personnel there. The food was ok even though my wife didn't enjoy the salad much. Overall , it was a fair experience. I enjoyed it

We had brunch here this morning. Everything was delicious! We ordered the duck wrap appetizer which was insanely flavorful. For entrees we had the pork and eggs and the pimento cheeseburger, both great choices! The pork fell apart and the cheeseburger is an unexpected menu option that impressed. The fries were some of the best I've had in a while, and the bloody Mary's are perfect if you like spice. We will definitely come back next time we're in West Monroe.

Cotton demonstrates the difference between restaurants with a great chef and those with cooks. Our entire meal, homemade bread, appetizer, main course and dessert was simply a five sense delight. We shares the amazing hummus and homemade pita bread appetizer. My wife enjoyed the chicken and waffle. I had the seared pork loin and our sides were collard greens perfectly sauteed in a duck broth Ana thin sliced yams - very unusual and delicious. The dessert was a glazed apple turn over a with home made ice cream, sweet, citrus, multiple flavors complexed the dish and amazingly good strong black coffee. One of the best restaurants I've been to. Our entire meal was around $75 and worth every penny. A For two meal would average about $50.

Fantastic all around dining experience! Excellent food, from start to finish. My faves - deviled eggs to start and the beef trio was off the charts insanely delicious! Attentive high touch service and great ambience. We will definitely come back and refer all our friends here!

Cotton is one of the best dining experiences anywhere. Period. I'm not talking "good for Monroe," or "good for Louisiana." This place is universally amazing. I grew up in the sticks of Central Louisiana, and I often get annoyed that so many "Louisiana" restaurants try to be cajun or creole. Those styles are perfectly lovely, but they're not indicative of the Louisiana where I was raised. My Louisiana was filled with peas, collard greens, and cornbread - not jambalaya or étouffée. I am delighted to say that Cotton focuses on the elements of the South that I love and cherish - but takes them places my Mamaw never did. And the decor manages to be beautiful and down-home at the same time. Cotton takes "local" to the next level, and their menu changes frequently according to what's in season. Even though some of these items may not be available anymore, here are some of the dishes I've loved and devoured: * Shrimp & grits - perfect, perfect, perfect! * Cochon de lait - amazing pork atop collard greens and sprinkled with field peas. * Crackers with pepper jelly & cream cheese - all homemade and all delish. * Pork shank - slow cooked and mouth-watering. * Dates stuff with duck and wrapped in bacon - WRAPPED. IN. BACON. * Trout - I don't even like seafood and this was some great shiz. I could go on and on about all the beautiful little touches in the atmosphere and the menu, but nothing I could say would do the experience justice. So, just go. No, run. And you'll see what *my* Louisiana is all about.

I have had one amazing trip here and one very bad experience. The first trip we went on was for my anniversary with my wife. Everything we ate was amazing. The service was spot on and the atmosphere is nice. The only thing I didn't like but she did was that they put us in a room upstairs and in the back that had a couple other couples in there. It was like eating in the library but with cool décor. I felt like everybody could hear my conversation. She liked it so I guess its just a matter of opinion. Service-5*-Very nice, patient (we don't eat upscale food often), informative and attentive. Couldn't ask for a better wait staff Gnocchi Appetizer- 5*- you could tell it was homemade with some amazing sauce and sausage. I make gnocchi at the house and that this was more than great. Atmosphere-4*- it was very nice but like I said I did not like that we were put in the attic/library section (haha) Shrimp and Grits- 5* - amazing shrimp and grits my wife gets it every time and loves it. very good sauce with some strong hints of cilantro. Shrimp was cooked perfectly. Buttermilk fried Mississippi Quail- 4.5* - amazing flavor and technique on quail. melted in your mouth. Greens were not that amazing I didn't finish them. Second trip did not go well at all. I ordered their oyster sandwich which was terrible. I ate three bights because I was hungry but couldn't continue. They also charged us for it even though I could not eat it. It tasted like a mouth full of sand...even after I asked for some extra aioli, the sandwich could not be saved. We also were brought the wrong desert and then had to wait 20 minutes for a new one. Service-3.5*- Kept drinks refilled and was friendly but was a bit inattentive. My grandfather had to asked 5 different people for some extra crackers before finally receiving some 10 minutes later (not exaggerating) Atmosphere-5*- I love their main dining room. Great buzz and some interesting décor. Good looking bar too. Red Bean Hummus- 3*- nothing special...props on originality but the taste was nothing more than pureed red beans with some middle eastern flair. Would not order again. Gumbo-(3*)-I did not taste this but my Grandfather said it was very average....he was a bit snobby about trying the place out so I would not necessarily take his word for it. Fried Oyster Sammie- 1*- Perhaps one of the worst sandwiches I have had. Way, way, way to dry with no redeeming qualities. I tried the oysters without the bread and they were very bad (I get fried oysters just about any time I see them on the menu) Shrimp and Grits -5*- I ended up sharing my wife's dish since I could not eat the sandwich (it was still excellent) Appetizer Buscuits-5*- Grew up in the south and my wife makes amazing biscuits and these are something special.

I love love love this place! I was driving through town and stopped because I was in the mood for some innovative southern food - I got exactly what I wanted! I was alone so I sat at the bar. The bartenders were super friendly and chatty, and made me feel right at home. I had the deep fried quail - AMAZING, the deviled eggs app - unique and tasty, and the duck fat fries - good, but super super rich, I couldn't eat them all. To finish I had the mud pie (because what else are you going to order in the south?) and it was AMAZING as well! I would definitely recommend it to anyone young or old, alone or with a group!

Love the atmosphere and decor, the service was really great, and the food... Oh! the food! We started with the duck wraps. We really should have got an order to bring home with us. My husband ordered the shrimp and grits and I had the pressed pug Sammie with duck fat fries. We pretty much shared our dishes with each other. We have already made plans to go back!

Wow! This is one of the best restaurant's I have ever been to. The decor is great, the staff is attentive, and the food is amazing! You have to try the Muscovy duck wraps, they are terrific. I also have enjoyed. The duck fat fries are also good. For my entree I had the buttermilk fried Mississippi quail. It was very good and the grits that come with it were equally as good. Truth be told, I could probably go and just have the duck wraps and be a satisfied man.

I wish there were more than five stars to give. Had the surf and turf and the duck wraps. I've been all over the world and this place is the most superb southern dining I've had. Absolutely incredible service and welcoming staff. Leah is great and made the night for us. Thanks! Chase

Went here last night. In from out of town, here for work. Found it on yelp. Place had parking across the street, and had a good atmosphere right when I walked in. Place is nicely decorated, and the staff was very busy and attentive. Local beers on draft, had the UFO, real nice. Had their burger with this sweet potato brioche bun, and some type of jam seasoning... Pretty damn good. Duck fat fries were ok. The place is definitely out of place sitting in Monroe, but I'm glad it's there... I needed a good meal. It's pricey, but you get what you pay for. I recommend it to anyone in from out of town looking for quality place to destress and eat good.

Driving through Monroe, La on an evening trip to Dallas. Holy turnip greens, what a nice surprise! Cotton just further proves that a creative Southern chef just has more to work with than the rest of the country knows. Chef Cory Bahr's take on Shrimp and Grits had me smiley indeed. Traditional Southern flavors with some delicious surprises. I was forced to steal a duck wrap from my dear husband, lover of all things meaty. I could have made a meal of them and been perfectly complete. For dessert, if you can manage a few more bites, try the banana pudding made with banana cake, salted caramel mousse, whipped cream, and brûlée bananas on top. Dallas will have a hard time topping this delicious meal.

Just go. Quite simply the best, most inventive cooking I've ever had, including some of the finest restaurants in New York, LA, Paris, New Orleans, Atlanta, Austin. You've got to try the shrimp and grits, venison schnitzel, and fried quail, but first - have the duck wrap, which looks simple, but is tasty beyond belief. For dessert, the pannacotta, Charlotte au poire, Mississippi Mud Pie and chocolate bread pudding are preposterously good. Twelve beers on tap, and a fabulous cocktail and wine menu. The service: caring with lots of attention to detail. Seriously. Just go if you can. Cotton is worth a trip to Monroe. (If you live in Monroe, I'd say you are blessed.)

I just ate here earlier this week and a group of us went out. There were about 10 of us total. The waiters were quite attentive and very competent. The atmosphere was great--rustic, a bit hipster, but sophisticated. The food was amazing. I've been craving the beignets since I left. We also ordered the duck wraps--decadent, the oysters--flavorful, and the pickles--delicious. For my main course, I had the beef trio, which I couldn't even finish (but wished that I could)! I will definitely come back here the next time I am in Monroe!

Just came back from dinner here tonight and it was delicious!! The ambience of the place was nice, since it was a friday the wait would have been an hour if it wasn't for the two seats we found at the bar! Everything i tried was delicious. the walls were brick and the lighting was a bit low, people seems to be there for drinks before their night out as well. packed house! For appetizers we ordered: duck fat fries, duck wraps, & red bean hummus. Duck fat fries: i don't know what they do but they come out so incredibly crispy! they were so good.. almost every fry was crispy.. and i love crispy fries!! duck wraps: im guessing its duck wrapped in bacon. either way it was really good, had a little spicy-ness to it. i definitely recommend trying these if you come in! hummus: the hummus was ok, my gf loved it bc she loves hummus. im a little indifferent but it wasn't bad. it comes with toasted slices of bread. for dinner I ordered "trio of beef filet". i don't know if the three meats were different cuts of beef or if it was just topped with three different things. either way, it was good.. i ordered it medium (as i do all my steaks). I wasn't too much excited about the bleu cheese one, the cheese was a bit over powering so i put it off to the side.. this portion felt huge! i was so full, unless it had to do with the appetizers haha my gf ordered: something louisiana strawberry salad (i don't remember the full name) & fall squash soup as her dinner. i tasted the squash soup and it was ok. but she enjoyed the thing. it had a mild sweet flavor to it but she says the one over at sage is better. i also tried "southern pecan" on tap. its an ale.. i was going to get a shiner bock but i was curious as to how it was so the bartender (i think his name was beau?) gave me a small glass to try and i liked it! same color as shiner bock but the flavor was a little more mild than shiner in my opinion. all in all, i enjoyed my experience at cotton!

We wanted to dine at Cotton based on Yelp reviews. Food: The food was excellent but initially came out cold and had to be re-heated or replaced. To their credit they did not charge of the meals. The menu was small but filled with lots of items we wanted including shrimp and grits, catfish, pot roast, and many other favorites. Atmosphere: The place just did not have a good vibe me and my wife. The hostess seemed very cold and or disconnected. Decor: The placed looked great but, we could not get our heads wrapped around the pictures of slaves picking cotton. The servers wore worn out leather aprons which we both thought was a nice touch considering they served our meals in cast our bowls. Customer Service: our service seemed slower than everyone around us and they blamed our slow service on the need to cook chicken fingers for our boys. They did not have a child's menu but agreed to make chicken strips for our boys. This is normally an indication of a place that is not child friendly. This was not apparent based on the reviews we read.

Came back to this restaurant for a second time after a pleasant experience the first. Ordered a margarita that tasted like rotten fruit and simple syrup after being told that they could not make the first two drinks that I ordered ( the old smokey and a even and sprite). After that, I waited at a mostly empty bar and noticed that the bartender would rather play with his phone than entertain guests. After 10 minutes of waiting I finally asked for a menu and the bartender brought a sticky piece of paper with food on it. I placed my order ( duck wrap snack and shrimp and grits). All of my food came out at once and I almost lost my appetite when the bartender brought it because he smelled like stale whisky and cigarettes. The duck snack was wrapped in chewy undercooked bacon and the shrimp and grits were cold by the time I started on them. But it was still awesome. Overall poor experience except for the shrimp and grits entrée. I asked to speak to a manager and was told that the DRUNK BARTENDER was the manager. Needless to say, neither I, my family, nor any of my office staff will ever be back. Hoping cory can regain our business when we try out Nonna.

Its ok. I think that 90% of the menu has bacon/pork in it. Even the breaded oysters? I am not hating on them for having bacon in everything, just that they don't even know if it had bacon or not. Our waiter was very loquacious but didnt know what was in the items, had to check on everything, and still got it wrong. Also, no non-alcoholic beverage options aside from the standard gas station drinks.

A little pretentious for Monroe, LA? Maybe, but I give them credit for doing something different in a town that has way too many chain restaurants. Not sure I get the "mason jar" for water. Maybe just their way of taking it down a notch? Great space in a very cool, historic building. The food is good, the service is very good, and the wine list is not bad. Start with the duck wraps. Try the shrimp & grits. The cheeseburger is alright, but the bun was a little dry, which shouldn't be the case at $12. The upstairs bar may be the best thing Cotton has going for it, so skip dessert & climb the stairs for a superb after-dinner libation. I'll be back!

It was just okay....I wasn't really impressed. I looked at the reviews on yelp and talked to various persons about this place and it was a let down. The menu is mainly alcohol and for a family of non drinkers it was very disappointing. The food menu is very limited but I can say the appetizers were really good! The duck wraps and the pimento beignets were very good...and my shrimp and grits were good. I told the person taking my reservation that I had an allergy to strawberries...and what comes out with our bread? Strawberry butter!!!!!!! Thankfully my family tasted it first and told me not to eat any or else that would have been tragic! Why ask for allergies when reservations are made and then serve strawberry containing food to the table and not mention what the dish contains?!? The service was okay...I've can't say it was great but I can't say it was bad. Needless to say we probably won't ever go back...it was nice to try it though. I would suggest different art work for the wall...just a suggestion.

Wow. The yelp reviews on this place are right on. I was surprised to find something so good here. Great, local place. I had the cochon du lait for lunch. It was outstanding. The peas, collard greens and chow chow with it were just as good as the pork. The peaches and cream for dessert was a great finish. If you're in Monroe, LA, you should eat here. Mmmm.

My husband and I stopped in here on our way back to Texas from Georgia. We were more than pleased with what we found!! The atmosphere was incredible, built in and old cotton mill, and located right on the water. We loved all the updates they did to the building and that you can see into the kitchen. The service was great! Our waiter had answers to every question we asked and helped us choose between the incredible menu items. My husband had the quail and grits and he was blown away by it. He loved the gravy on the grits and was pleased at the texture of the grits. He was particularly excited about the quail and how moist and perfectly crispy the quail was. I had the burger and fries, and absolutely fell in love with everything on my plate! The burger was cooked to perfection and the jam on the bun was out of this world! And to pair it perfectly were the most amazing fries I've ever had in my life. I'm not even kidding, there has never been nor will there ever be a fry any better than these! These fries were cooked in duck fat. Duck. Fat. Fries. I just can't even begin to explain how much I love these fries. Just. Go eat them. Right now. I promise, you'll love them!

Whenever we're in town visiting relatives Cotton becomes our home away from home. We've had everything on the menu several times and have enjoyed every one. The service and staff are great. The waiters are well-trained and very knowledgeable about the menu. The wine list is solid. We prefer the downstairs to the upstairs dining room. Cory runs a fine operation here and will go way out of his way to make sure his customers are happy. Just wish he'd open a branch in NYC.

Cotton created a great birthday evening for my group of 11. With that number finding a great restaurant that offers service, selection and ambience can be challenging in North Louisiana. Enter Cotton. Thank you, Marco Tumminello, General Manager, for watching the details of our meal, service, timing of our appetizers and entree and the, surprise, desserts. Thank you, Cody, for you guidance in the kitchen and leadership. To you that want great restaurants in Monroe, support this one, often. I would put this experience up against any Los Angeles, New York, or Dallas establishment. Thank you for making such a memorable eveing for me and 10 very special people in my life.

Not only is this the best restaurant in Monroe, I would argue its one of the best restaurants in the country. Chef Bahr represents a breath of fresh air for southern cuisine. Would recommend anything on the menu, but I almost always go with the special of the night. Its always incredible and unique.

I rarely go to a restaurant with the mindset that I want to taste what a chef is doing, but that is what drew me to Cotton and it surpasses my wildest expectations. Never in the history of my taste buds have I ever been able to taste a story. Chef Cory has truly made a statement with flavors from not only the New Orleans Creole tradition but combines those with a rarely used pallet that fuses flavors from North Louisiana as well. This man has gentrified ingredients my grandparents raised as a necessity in this region for sustenance during the depression. My husband and I treated my grandmother to Sunday lunch. She remembers it being a bank in the great depression. It was the bank her parents lost their savings in. One of the only two in the region during that time. Our waiter also told her a bit more about the space and how prior to that it also stored cotton and was a brothel. This is fine dining that is casual and relaxed so the service is what you expect. Every element has been meticulously selected to construct an ambiance like none other in this town. It all just works from the food to the decor right down to the leather aprons the servers wear. There are no gimmicks but the place drips with originality. You must take a look around upstairs as well. I truly can't say enough about this place. Chef Cory is going to be the one to watch. The menu changes periodically so you know not only is the food going to be fresh, sourced locally and the flavors phenomenal. There were greens as part of my bangers and mash. My grandmother loves greens and makes them often. She couldn't pinpoint what made the taste different than hers but it was that difference that made it unique. And that is why you need to drop what you are doing and get to Cotton right now.

Review Summary: Cotton is a great culinary experience of unique southern flavors, which are expertly contrived into exotic flavorful dishes with a modest price tag. Atmosphere: 5 stars (Clean, beautiful, southern, and homey) Food: 5 stars (great and inventive balance of flavors and texture) Service: 5 stars (Kind, helpful, pleasant) Value: 5 stars (amazing quality food for decent price) Only downside is parking may be a little tough if you don't know the area. Background: On a roadtrip from California, I randomly stopped by Cotton due to the high yelp reviews. IF YOU COME TO LA YOU MUST COME TO THIS RESTAURANT. This is a classy/swanky restaurant, yet has a very kind/friendly/and homey atmosphere. Now in a classy restaurant you normally expect over inflated prices (this is usually the case in California). However, the prices here have GREAT VALUE! 10-15 dollars for an extremely high quality culinary entree?? Yes please... Sounds crazy right?? But I'm from California, these dishes would and could be easily 4-5 dollars more expensive in California. All of you people who live in LA should take advantage of this place. Granted some dishes may have higher value than others. I'am not a food snob, but I enjoy everything from holes in the wall to 5 star restaurants. I rate and perceive restaurants relative to their equals. I don't rate Korean BBQ in Alabama to KBBQ in Korea town Los Angeles (the mecha of KBBQ). I did not have to hold anything back with Cotton. What to order: The Shrimp n Grits: hands down one of my favorite dishes of ALL TIME. Perfect texture and balance of flavors and the shrimp were succulent. I could take my time saying how each ingredient compliments the other, but this would be an essay. It's easier for me to just say that this was a well thought out dish by a greatly talented chef. Never have I ever asked to give my compliments to the chef or want to meet the chef and compliment them in person. Even though I wussied out here (this place probably doesn't get much asian customers) it was extremely close and I have never felt that compelled. I can't remember the exact price but I remember it being a great amount of food for the price you pay. I would gladly pay $20 for this dish in California. Wrapped Duck Appetizer(Can't remember the exact name): Duck wrapped in bacon in a light honey/plum sauce. Bacon and duck is a winning combination. This was a great starter and left me wanting more. Definitely another well thought out dish. The duck was pleasantly "gamier" than I'm normally used to. The sauce was succulent. Only downside is the value is a little low here, I believe $12 dollars for 5 moderately small wrapped pieces of duck. I'd pay the money again, but it's not nearly as great a deal as the Shrimp n Grits is. Duck Fat Fries: The only fat I will eat without a second thought is always duck fat. Duck fat tastes so amazing it always overrides my guilt (health conscious). These fries have a great after taste of duck fat. Fries + Duck fat = WIN. I could talk about this place forever, the waiters were so nice when I was coming out of the bathroom it felt as if they were SPRINT JUMPING out of the way so I had an enormous path to walk through (I'm a small asian guy, don't need a small path). Cotton is a great culinary experience of unique southern flavors expertly contrived into exotic flavorful dishes with a modest price tag.

The atmosphere makes me feel like I'm in a different city than Monroe. The drinks are amazing as well, especially the Ole' Smokey. The Venison Schnitzel, which is what we ordered, tasted superb. You owe it to yourself to try it out!!!

This place ought not to be labeled a 'diner'- it's really southern cuisine. Definitely a surprise to find a great place in the middle of nowhere! Like everyone said duck wraps are amazing- crispy bacon on the outside with creamy cheese and tender spicy duck meat in the middle drizzled with a sweet honey sauce. Pear arugula salad and schnitzel were also really good. Wish I could of tried more dishes but everything was really rich and highly caloric. Also no need for dessert since all the food seemed to be a tad on the sweet side- salad dressing was sweet, both sauces for duck wraps and schnitzel were super sweet. Cocktails and beers also sounded really good and looked interesting- they had smoking(I think dry ice) cocktails going out. A place to try if in the area!

I wasn't able to try this place tonight. Online the hours say 5:00 pm -11:00 pm. I saw this at 10:15 and got here by 10:35 to find them mopping the floors. The sign in front of the place says "5 pm - [open ended]" I have no bigger peeve than not adhering to posted hours. I wouldn't have wasted 20 minutes driving while missing out on every other option other than fast food if you could honestly post your hours. Thanks for wasting my time. If there is anything else worth eating in town you may have lost my business for good.

Great meal and a truly creative product. Nothing is what you expect - so just enjoy the experience. The Duck Wraps were incredible - a must have. My wife ordered the shrimp and grits - these were full of flavor, almost like a tomato based scampi. I had the beef and cheddar roll - probably one of the best sandwiches I have ever tasted - though it was very greasy and I was a bit queasy the rest of the evening, just eat half if you are smart. My son ordered a cornbread waffle topped with pulled pork and an egg - what a great idea, I really loved sharing his plate. The cornbread waffle is a first.

Nice beer selection. Very comfortable chairs. Duck wraps are melt in mouth delicious. Both my wife's and my entrees were just about perfect. The service is excellent. This is one of the best restaurants I have ever had the pleasure to visit. Food, atmosphere, service, all top notch without being stuffy or pretentious.

I can only comment on the booze, because the kitchen had just closed once we got there. However, they have one of the best stocked bars I've ever seen - and this is coming from someone who's spent the last decade in NYC amongst hundreds of bars. They even had a bottle of Fisk straight out of Sweden. It was amazing. I wasn't a huge fan of the mixed drink I got, but not because it was poorly mixed - I'm just horrible at choosing cocktails. And the bartender has one of the most epic mustaches I have ever seen on a human man. Just incredible. How does it stay that way? Pomade? All in all, I give this place 4.8 stars for the ambiance, the location, the well stocked bar, and the mustache.

Came here on the personal recommendation of the one and only Miss Kay Robertson. And she is always right when it comes to food. Duck wraps, shrimp and grits, and lots of bacon. A wonderful wonderful meal. Add to that an excellent environment and great service. A world class surprise in Monroe, Louisiana.

We were on a road trip from Los Angeles, CA and we stop over this small town by accident, just because we were so tired from driving. We yelp this place and it had good rating, so wanted to try it out. Afterall, it was really late and we were really tired from driving. We were there 15 minutes before their closing time, but there were still a good amount of people inside hanging out, and the waiter had to ask the chef if their kitchen was closing. Good thing they still accept us. I wouldn't know where to eat at 9:40pm at night when everywhere was closed. Ambience is really really really good inside, and people were all dressed up and it's really a classy place. Too bad we weren't dress up for this. It was more like we just drove by and choose a place to eat. THE FOOD WAS EXTREMELY GOOD AND THE LOOKS OF THE FOOD IS LIKE THOSE OF THE ONES YOU SEE IN IRON CHEF FOOD NETWORK. I ordered the rabbit stew, which I know rabbit meat are hard to prepare, and they were extremely soft and tasty. My partner ordered Venison schnitzel, and oh my, the looks of it was like those of iron chef's and they taste extremely good too. We had a great meal, and at the end of the meal, I told the server how good the food was, and he mention that the chef was one of the contestants in CHOPPED on food network. NO WONDER THE FOOD WAS EXTREMELY GOOD. I give 2 thumbs up for this CHEF. It's the best!! It's never about the price of the food, but it's how much the food taste that it's worth the price you pay. :) Would definitely go back there, if we happened to drop by there again, this time, not by accident, but purposely would go there for the COTTON restaurant.

This place has excellent food and exceptional service in an elegant historical building. Our waiter, Marcel, was very professional and informative. He even went above and beyond after our meal to give us a tour of the old building and share its history. There is seating downstairs and a bar. Several unique rooms and another bar compose the upstairs for more seating options. There is also a welcoming outdoor balcony area to enjoy your food with a fantastic view when the weather is nice. The building was once a warehouse to store cotton at one time and for whiskey at another point from what we were told. There are elements throughout the building indicating the buildings unique history. The food was amazing. We had the deviled eggs which were a bit salty but still tasty. The duck wraps were excellent (definitely try these). I had the shrimp and grits and loved them! My shrimp was a bit salty too but they were huge and cooked prefectly. The veggies in the dish were fresh and flavorful, and I have never had grits so good. Great place! We went for lunch so the menu was smaller than for dinner with excellent options. Everyone at the table was happy and full =)

This place is on my list of favorite restaurants. I had the salad with a poached egg and the Pork Belly with Grits & Cracklin' Cornbread. My husband had a burger and the duck fat fries. Our entire meal was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Drinks: try the Ole' Smoky & the Whiskey Smash ...amazing. Excellent staff, also. The only problem I have with this place is trying to figure when I can get back to Monroe, LA to dine here again!

Absolutely incredible food. The prices should be higher because this is high class southern food. The owner obviously has a passion for food and it shows in the service, setting, and food. I had the Shrimp and Grits and I can honestly say every single bite was like heaven. I was shocked that such an exquisite experience can be find in Monroe, Louisiana! You will walk away fully satisfied!

I travel a lot and have the oppurtunuty to eat at some amazing places from Chicago, NY, Dallas, New Orelans etc... and I have to say Cotton is in my top 3 places in the country. Maybe top, just so hard to pick one out of my 3 favorite. Will say this is a gem in Monroe and even Louisiana. The best Duck Wraps ever and a first look at the menue will prove that the Chef is creative and likes to use quality ingrediants. If you are a foodie or even some tourist coming by to see Antique District or Duck Commander, you must stop by and try out Cotton.

This place would be twice as expensive in New Orleans. It's one of the best restaurants we've ever eaten at. You won't be disappointed.

Been to Monroe muliple times this year and as I get more experienced w/ my surroundings Im starting to find my go to places for the week. Cotton will be one of them after my experience. Rating would have been higher but the waitor didnt come by around often enough in my eyes, even though he was very knowledgeable. On the other hand the food was pretty killer! To start off, the app to get is the muscovy duck wraps, a perfect balance of sweet-spicy-n-salty. The boudin was just ok. But ordered the boulibaisse(spelled wrong but too lazy to look it up). Basically a southerners version of zupa! The flavors coming out of this dish were amazing and addictive. The bread and some type of fruit butter were tasty. The best part of the dish was dipping the rolls into the bread. I would think of some form of crostini would accent this dish perfectly. Then again it is a $32 dollar dish so something besides house rolls would be nice to see. One of my fav dessets is the panna cotta. This was another must order but I wasnt really feeling the dish they serve it in(mini jar). Its really dificult to scoop out. They must know about this and hopefully they change it.

We started with the red bean hummus, a great Louisiana twist to a classic. One in our party had chicken and waffles, the waffles were made with sweet potatoes. We had smoked oysters, spinach/strawberry salad and shrimp & grits. I ordered a side of braised brussel sprouts, they were the best I've ever eaten. Chef Cory has made amazing dishes out of seemingly ordinary fare. We will definitely eat here whenever we're in town.

I came here with a group for dinner when we were touring in Monroe, and it was fantastic. I loved the atmosphere -- so cute and romantic. And I loved the exposed brick wall, which gave the restaurant a down-to-earth feel. I had their red fish with shrimp and it was delicious. I felt it was little too pricy for what it was, but it was a very good food regardless. Great restaurant.

I have never written a review but after this meal I HAD TOO! AMAZING!! I am from New Orleans and have traveled all over and I must say this was one of the best meals I have ever had in my life! Duck wrapped bacon!! Soooo good! Cream cheese appetizer is crazy good! Spoon bread!!! Oh! And the shrimp and grits!!!! The chef was there and came to our table and I offered to have his children lol! Had the banana pudding caramel pudding and milk chocolate bread pudding and everything was superb! I want to come back to Monroe again just to eat here! If you are contemplating eating here- stop contemplating and go! And did I mention the service was GREAT!! A must try restaurant indeed.

8-29-13-First I'll start with what I had. I had the buttermilk fried quail with stone grits. Also had the whipped sweet potato. The stone grits, quail and whipped sweet potato(DELICIOUS) were pretty good. The collard greens were tasty but tough. I'm not the biggest eater but unfortunately I was still hungry after eating here. Considering the prices one would think you would get a little bit more food. Despite this I will return in the future, because the food was that good. I'll try another dish on my next visit, hopefully it'll fill me up this time.If not I hope it is just as good. The service by the way was very good.

We're glad we stopped by on our way back to Texas from Destin. The Muscovy duck wraps were delightful but our entree took a long time to come out due to some issues with the pancake batter. Usually not such a big deal as the place was very charming but we had a very precocious toddler and 4 yr old in tow who were already restless from the long drive. Our waiter, Marcel, was attentive and apologized for the wait, as well as the manager. When the food finally came, it was delicious. My husband ordered the hamburger with duck fat fries. I had the shrimp and grits - possibly the best I've had anywhere, even Fearing's...sorry, Dean. The kids had buttermilk pancakes with strawberries. Everything is made from scratch with local ingredients. We completed the brunch with a honey panne cotta which the chef accommodated with our request to add strawberries. I can't stress how wonderful our service was and how much the staff went out of their way to make our meal memorable. In full transparency, the restaurant took care of our bill - which I didn't feel was necessary. The food and service are very deserving of a stop in Monroe.

When Did We Last Eat That Well? That was our question of the night. We couldn't remember. From the Duck Wraps (recommended by our hostess at Hamilton House), grilled Caesar, trout, schnitzel and vanilla panna cotta, it was memorable. Our server, Chris, made excellent suggestions, including a very good value pinot noir and everything worked. Even though the boss wasn't in the house, the cuisine was ably attended to by Durwin and the rest of the staff. Only one possible negative, my wife thought the collards were a bit sweet. Service was personable, professional and timely; you don't often get all three together. Our only regret was that we couldn't try everything on the menu, but one does have to leave something for the next visit. Can we hope for a clone in Dallas?

Best restaurant in Monroe. The chef is incredibly creative. You'll get dishes to which you have nothing to compare. The chef seems to get bored easily, so the menu changes frequently enough to keep me coming back. Very uniquely twisted creole style dishes as well as traditional fare comprise the menu. Thanks to the owner for helping to revitalize the downtown district. I'd like to voice my solitary, minor complaint about service however. The young man didn't know the beer menu (small as it was), which, beside his scripted nature and scarcity, indicated he was inexperienced.

The is an old building with brick walls, that you know if they could talk they would have plenty to say. The food is unique and delicious. There Shrimp and Grits were amazing. I had their bread pudding which is made in a mason jar and layered to perfection. I hope to be traveling back this way again real soon.

Cannot say enough about this place! Wonderful atmosphere and excellent staff! We were treated like royalty! The food was amazing! Our group of four dined "family style", so we ordered a little bit of everything. Highly recommend the duck wraps and Louisiana Blue Crab. The drinks were delicious too!

Most amazing restaurant in Monroe, LA...hands down. We were in town for only one night and wanted to find a good restaurant for dinner. This place was AMAZING. We had a party of four and shared a bunch of "tastes" off the menu. It included black skillet cracklin' cornbread, duck fat fries, Muscovy duck wraps, Louisiana blue crab & roasted Louisiana oyster voisen. Our favorite was the blue crab, second favorite was the oysters. Our server was Brad Castle. Ask for him!!!

Was in West Monroe for business for a week. Found this place using Yelp and looked interesting. Ended up eating there every night while I was in town. I'm from Charleston, SC, so I'm used to eating well. This place has very good food. The shrimp and grits were very good. The bronzed catfish (not deep fried) was among the best catfish I've ever eaten - didn't really taste like catfish - much better. Their pork schnitzel was also good with grilled peaches included that added well to the overall taste (pork & sweet go together well). Collards were up to par with a near perfect touch of pepper vinegar already in them. Good selection of local beers on tap and a large selection of cocktails. If you're a fan of cocktails you might want to try their "Old Smokey" - quite unusual. Very clean & classy place. Service was good but not great likely due to the fact that they were so darn busy while I was there. Would definitely recommend if you are staying in the area.

Cotton is hands-down the best restaurant in Monroe. If you came looking for Coda, it closed, but something much more wonderful has risen in its place! Just opened by the chef behind Sage, Cotton is all about Louisiana flavors done excellently and with class. One bite of the Duck Wrap appetizer and you will be a fan. The place is a foodie's dream. I cannot heap high enough praise on this place. I'm from Los Angeles and take my food hype seriously, but Cotton is easily in my top 5 favorite restaurants. As a business traveler in Monroe every week, finding Cotton is a godsend. Not only is the food easily the best in Monroe, the building is probably the coolest I've ever seen for a restaurant. Go upstairs and check out the Bar Room and the Edison light bulbs. Be sure to step out onto the balcony at the upstairs bar and check out the view too. You'll be very pleased you took the leap of faith and trusted this manic review! :)

I had a few hours to kill in Monroe while I waited on my flight and stumbled upon Cotton. Now I can't wait to go back to Monroe! I had the lunch portion of the shrimp and grits and it was one of the best meals I've had in a very long time (and I live in Houston). The texture and flavors are so interesting and fresh it truly is worth traveling out of your way to try this place. I can't wait to go back and try more of the menu. Loved it.

This place is fantastic! I took some clients here for lunch and everyone at the table said the food was fantastic. The Duck Roll appetizer is one of the best starter dishes I have ever had. The prices are extremely low for the quality of the dishes. Restaurants in New Orleans would charge double for this magic on a plate. This chef is the real deal. The combination of ingredients on the plate were no less than spectacular. The only negative thing I can say was we were brought water in jars and never asked if we wanted anything else to drink. As I looked around everyone else was drinking water as well. I may have missed something but thought it was strange (however, it is healthier this way). Will definitely be back each time I come up to Monroe.

Monday night and in Monroe, LA. In town for meetings at CenturyLink headquarters. Sound familiar? Humm where should I go? After many recommendations from locals and fellow Yelpers (thanks Kevin) I end up at gem, Cotton. Service was great, Drew the manager was attentive, Towner the bartender helped me pick a great glass of wine and tended to my every need, my meal was awesome. The collards were so good I actually had them for dessert with the homemade hot sauce. Did I mention there was Van Morrison music playing? I highly recommend and may even take my clients there for lunch tomorrow.

friday night 4 top w/ reservations.. arrived 1/2 hour late with 3 people but was still seated after a 30 min wait... thanks! Pimento cheese, duck fries, and porkbelly all were good and i would order again. Trio of beef was excellent ( i had a taste) and the steak was reported as being very good. My rabbit had turnips/collards/other green all were cooked perfectly. I would have rather had the rabbitt non-fried and was somewhat disappointed; it was good, nevertheless. STaff and service were excellent and responsive.. It was highend service.. hope your staff can sustain that atitude of being real busy but providing smiles and being responsive.. A great team that night! I had the recently banished Figs over pannacotta and was very greatful for this off-menu item .. it was real good. All the sauces were very good as well. We'll be back

Best food EVER!!! I am not a huge fan of southern food, but Chef Cory Bahr changes EVERYTHING -- he sparks a new twist on the classics and even takes over the drink menu with unique twists on whiskey sours and more. Super fun, casual yet upscale and you dine in a gorgeous space. Check out the upstairs deck overlooking the river if you get the chance - stunning. Will make a special trip back to Monroe to go to Cotton. Highly recommend.

The ribeyes are fantastic. The braised short ribs are so tender and good. you can cut them with a fork. The shrimp and grits are a great southern dish as well. I recently had friends in town from Los Angeles who wanted that authentic southern meal - Cotton's is the pkace for great food.

I travel to Monroe quite frequently for work. By far the best dining experience in town! I continue to be impressed with the atmosphere, the staff friendliness, and the burst of flavor in each dish. Last time I ate duck rolls which were duck wrapped in bacon with cream cheese. AMAZING. And then I had a Cajun Bouillabaisse. They claimed that the chef won an award in the state of LA for this dish- I can definitely see why. They also have a decent regional beer selection. To top it off, the building is a historic building with lots of unique features. I would definitely recommend this place. Great job!

I rate the food and atmosphere very highly. The service was good. There are a lot of inexperienced staff. I had the bouillabaisse with Cobia, Scallops, oysters, and shrimp. The Cobia was cooked very well. I applaud them for having a fish you don't see everyday on the menu. The rest of the table had rib eye and soft shell crab. They enjoyed their meals as well. They had a couple of small issues. They were out of some of the items on the bar menu, which seemed odd to me. How do you run out of Corona at 6PM on Saturday evening if its on your menu? Didn't ruin our meal though. We sat up stairs, if you want a quite meal I would recommend this as it seemed loud on the main floor as we left the restaurant. I will be back.

My husband and I went to Cotton for lunch today. What a great experience!!! The food was GREAT!!! We had cream cheese and pepper jelly on flat bread for an appitizer. Wes had the grilled fish and greens on grits and I had the roasted chicken breast and grilled summer veggies. Prices were not bad for a lunch menu. The venue is very clean and decorated really nice!!!

  • Kim S.

The location is beautiful and the inside is nice. A little eclectic for my family's taste. No kids menu but they offered to make chicken strips and then charged 10.00 for them which is not worth three strips and fries. The duck fat fries were very good. I had the strawberry spinach salad and crawl fish pies which were very good. My daughter had shrimp and grits but complained the spices were too much. My husband had the pork belly and cheek and said it was pretty good. We ate at better places for cheaper. The food was good but I don't think the prices were in line with what you get.

Spectacular! The service was impeccable and the food was fabulous. I have very food allergies, and they took it very seriously and I so appreciated that! I travel all over the country and eat at fabulous restaurants in major cities, and Top Chef restaurants regularly, and this place is equal to all of the best! Congrats to Monroe on a fabulous new restaurant! (And, it's in the oldest building in town, which is very cool!)

  • Jennifer H.

Put simply, this place takes the cake, not only in Monroe but in the southern region of the country. There aren't many quality places to eat in Monroe, but Cotton is to par with restaurants in New Orleans. The food is fresh, not Sysco, like every other place in Monroe. The ingredients are local or organic. Every item on each dish is complementary. For example, the pressed pig sandwich has this tangy/sweet julienne pickle on it and it brings the whole sandwich together. I'm poor and I bring my own food to work everyday so that I can save money to go to this place once a week and splurge, it's that good. There are more things on the menu that I've had than not. For dinner, if you want something unique (in a delicious way) the venison schnitzel is spectacular. If you want a steak, get it. The trio of beef is always mouthwatering even if you eat the leftovers like 4 days later. For lunch, the pressed pig sandwich never ceases to bring me to my knees. appetizer-wise go with the original muscovy duck wraps, the blue crab, or the red bean hummus.
