Went there last night as a anniversary celebration with my significant other.. Long story short restaurant was completely empty ( as in we were the only ones there!) we both were simple and ordered the same thing, we only ordered one voodoo cocktail simply because we wanted to just try it out and taste it since we tried to order a mojito but they were out of mint.. We ended up getting our food first and were brought out two drinks instead of just one (which we had to pay for btw) and the food that supposedly just came out was cold the mac n cheese was cold and had hard noodles in it! The beef brisket was half fat half meat! And of course now today we are both sick from food poisoning! Never again! Worst service and the food was disgusting the first time now im tasting it over and over! I definitely do not recommend unless you have the next day off to lay on your bathroom floor!

Ordered smoked chicken with mac n cheese and beans and a loaded baked potato. The loaded potato was pathetic. They wrre so cheap cheap cheap with the cheeze and green onions. I was ok with the tube of cream cheese. They shouldnt call it loaded if its not. Oh yeah there was some bacon on it that I almost forgot about. Loaded potato was sad. Mac n cheese was boring. Needed more cheese flavoring or res l cheese. The beans were alright but they could have been drained more from the sugar syrup they were soaked in. The chicken was alright but wasn't good enough to come back again. How unfortunate.

We went to this restaurant the first night we arrived in NOLA. The food was very tasty and the prices were very reasonable. Everyone loved their dishes, especially the sweet potato souffle. If we ever visit NOLA again, we will definitely eat here again!

My husband looked for a barbeque spot because we were tourists in New Orleans. When we saw the name we thought "We have to go there." We were not expecting a lot because we thought it was just a tourist trap, but were we pleasantly surprised!! I got pork barbeque and my husband got the ribs and brisket. Food is delicious!!! The service is a little slow, but, relax, you are in New Orleans. Great jazz is playing in the background.

First time here. I moved from Texas where BBQ is king. The brisket here was ok. The pulled pork was overly dry. Had to add much sauce to moisten it. Thankfully the coleslaw was not overly mayonnaise-y. None of the 3 sauces offered were spectacular. Wasn't a good spicy sauce. $16 (inc tip and drink). Will be back to try the rest of the menu.

Whoever said this place is counter service only is not correct. The full service bar area here at this location does wait on you. They did this on my last trip in. I don't like to speak ill of Voodoo because I have a deep love it of, but my last visit here was less than "voodoo like". Then why give it 4 stars you may ask? Because the response to the less than stellar experience was FIRST RATE!! Not only did I get a call from the Corporate office but also the franchise owner listening to my concerns, and doing everything to make sure the next trip is "right". To be honest as long as they keep making those greens they way they do, I will always be a fan! Read: I want that recipe!!!! This location was original a Luther's BBQ pre Katrina then when they didn't return it became a Ground Pati. Ground Pati re did the entrance to where it make it a little more confusing and Voodoo is making lemonade out of it. To clarify, if you haven't been in a Voodoo before the entrance is usually very simple, walk in and you get counter service. At this location you have two options walk in and head to the full service bar area (most of them don't have this) and be waited on or take a left and get counter service around the corner. I was a little confused when walking into this location but it was explained to me. I didn't get a scratcher game (but I would have loved to). This is also a great kid friendly place as they get the food out quick (key when you have kids) and they are always friendly. I can't quit you Voodoo and I don't want to!

I was craving bbq (like pretty much everyday) so i went to Voodoo. I took the graveyard plate (2 meats & 2 sides, $11). There is a choice of 3 sauces on the table: spicy bbq, tangy bbq and New Orleans style (my fav). The pulled pork and the jerk chicken were good. The beans were very good. I don't recommend the brisket: it was so dry i simply didn't eat it.

The saga continues. As you can see below, this is the second update I've made to my review. After the last time when I received such poor service the manager actually contacted me about my concerns. I'm quite happy to say that now things have returned to the proper level of service. My group of friends has been back three times now and all three times gotten stellar service. So maybe it was a fluke before, or a rough patch with some new hires. At least now it's back to good service and good food.

The BBQ brisket was good but the hamburger was very dry. Service was horrible and they weren't even busy when we were there.

Here's the deal. I am, at best, iffy about BBQ. I don't like "tangy" sauces or sweet ones. So 95% of BBQ joints, though perfectly cooked, kill it for me when they slather it in sauce. Not Voodoo BBQ. Their meats are smoked and brought to the table "dry"--with about 5 sauces on the table from which you can choose--sweet, tangy, spicy, vinegary. I like the Louisiana Hot Sauce one and the vinegary one. And THANK them for not deciding for me WHICH sauce I want. Their brisket is wonderful as is their pulled pork. At this last visit, they pushed their potato skins. We ordered it with brisket. I was NOT HAPPY when they came pre-sauced. But my green salad with brisket came dry. They also have a full bar. The place looks wonderful and the staff are super-friendly.

Oh @VoodooBBQ, sight-unseen I had such high hopes that this location might be like the one you had at West End and have table service...no such luck. It's counter service just like the others. Dear Voodoo people, I'd really like to sit down and have someone wait on me and NOT have to stand at a counter and order. This is a brand new Voodoo BBQ location on Severn Ave in Metairie, it's right across from Whole Foods and right next to Outback. The space used to be a Gound Pat'i. So, it's just like the other Voodoos around town, same menu with a recent addition of a sweet potato casserole that was REALLY good. The food didn't disappoint and I'm glad it's not to far from me...I was just really disappointed not to have table service. We both had brisket platters that come with two side each so I sampled four different sides: potato salad (not with a mayo base but with a sour cream base) which is good; the sweet potato casserole which as I said above was REALLY good and almost desert sweet; the mac & cheese which is always good; and the corn pudding which is just off the charts. I always like the meats at Voodoo, they are NOT overly smokey tasting like I have found the smoked meats at other places like The Joint or Hillbilly BBQ. The location also has a bar as soon as you walk in from the parking lot. I have a feeling they are waiting on their liquor license or something since the bar seemed void of any liquor. They only opened 4 days before I visited. As you will read in other Voodoo location reviews by me, Voodoo is my current "go to" BBQ place. The food is always consistent, I've had just about everything on the menu. My only complaint is that they don't offer table service so I guess that just isn't in their business model, if ever there was a location to have table service it would have been this location in Metairie. Oh well, I'm glad the food is always good.

Great place for a quick lunch. Food came out fast and delicious and our server was on it! I had the Cajun sausage poboy and corn pudding. Will definitely go back!

I had a craving for a big BBQpork sandwich. I arrived at the door at 8:50pm (on 4/23/15), and it was locked. I immediately called the restaurant from outside the front door and spoke with a polite lady that informed me they were already closed. I asked her what time they closed, and she said "about 10 minutes ago." There is basically no good BBQ in New Orleans. It's a shame this option, near my house, isn't reliable. Closing 20 minutes before advertised closing time is unacceptable. I guess I'll have to wait until I visit Memphis again for great BBQ.

Being from Texas, I enjoy BBQ. I Voodoo is now one of my favorite BBQ places. I had the pulled pork platter with two sides (Corn Pudding and Sweet potato souffle). Jimmy was a great and attentive bartender (albeit very busy). A great lunch. I highly recommend it. I will return.

It was good but not great. The side dishes were better than the "thin sliced brisket"

Welcome to Metairie!! I've always been a fan of the voodoo since I lived in Baton Rouge. Graveyard platter all the time with brisket, pork, gris gris greens and the corn pudding. But this time I had to try the burgers. I had the voodoo burger for the first time and it was good (nothing to rave about). Atmosphere on the other hand was kinda lacking I felt. bartender was stretch thin taking care of to-go orders me and tables. Oh well i did tip good and i will be back, just probably on an off time to avoid that headache. On a side note LA31 and the burgers don't go well together. lol All in all it was lackluster but it is good for a do over coming soon.....

Great food! I had the salad with shrimp. Seafood was fresh and flavorful. The BBQ meat was delicious as well! Definitely going to return :)

Here is yet another business whereby I wish Yelp would offer 1/2 star reviews, because I feel Voodoo BBQ is a solid 3.5 stars, as it is definitely a little better than A-Okay, but I am not quite a fan. The first thing that caught my eye upon walking in was how cool the bar was. And even though I rarely drink, I could easily picture myself relaxing at this bar and enjoying a drink while I sampled a few BBQ appetizers. Once you walk past the bar, you are greeted by a fairly large dining room, and there was plenty of available seating on this particular Saturday afternoon. I was trying to eat somewhat healthy and got the smoked turkey platter. Voodoo did a good job as it's easy to dry out turkey if you over-smoke it. Mine was very juicy and very enjoyable. The steamed veggies were A-Okay, and still had a slightly firm texture. (Nothing is worse than soggy steamed veggies). I also got the Gris gris greens, which were smoky & flavorful, but without being too salty. My father-in-law got the graveyard platter which features your choice of 2 meats. He opted for the BBQ smoked sausage and pulled pork; and although I did not get to sample them, they looked quite good. My wife got the overstuffed loaded baked potato with BBQ brisket. This is a meal in itself for all but those with the most voracious appetites (like me). The potato was baked well, but not overdone so as you could not enjoy the skin if that's your thing. The serving of brisket on top the potato was more than ample and was also cooked well. For my son, we got the kid's chicken strips. However, they were a little dry, but still edible enough for his particular taste. Lastly, I got to sample the sweet potato soufflé, which happened to be my favorite sampling of the day. I could definitely see myself seated at the bar with a double order of the soufflé and a nice cocktail. Our server (forgot her name) was ok, but we had to wait several minutes after all our drinks were empty to get a refill; and only after we stopped her and asked for a refill. All in all, not a bad place. But there is better BBQ in the local area.

The food was just ok. It came out warm. The Mac and cheese had no taste. That day they ran out of ribs and my cornbread was hard as a rock.

I rounded up to 3 because of the friendly waitress I had. I ordered the two meat platter with Brisket and Pulled pork. Both meats were room temperature when brought to my table. The Brisket was tender but lacking smoke or seasoning. The pulled pork was less impressive as it was dry with bitter bark pieces disbursed through out. I guess that explains the vinegary sauces - one of which tasted like a lighter version of crystal hot sauce. This was my favorite of the three. The fries were delicious, all 10 of them. The beans were very good and one of the highlights of the meal. So in short, if you want ok BBQ with delicious beans, this is the place for you. At 6:00pm on Thursday, there were three tables seated including me.

This staff was extremely pleasant and the food was phonmonal. I had gator bites for the first time and I really enjoy the crunchy well season batter. My entree was tuna steak coleslaw and fries... tuna steak was very succulent and cooked perfect... wasn't a fan of the coleslaw it was missing something and my fries was enjoyable. Overall the food service and atmosphere was great.. will be back

Awesome food and great service! We went on a night with a football game, so it was a little noisy, but the service was so fast, we weren't in there very long.

I ate there on 7-23-11. First off the service was great.I had the roasted BBQ Chicken and Smoked Pulled Pork combo with sides(Corn Pudding and Sweet Potato Souffle ). The pork was dry and the chicken was chewy and bland. The sauce was very good. The, Corn Pudding and Sweet Potato Souffle were great. The,Sweet Potato Souffle was one of the best things I've had in a restaurant in some time. That is saying alot. I'm on the road alot for work ,so I eat out often. The corn pudding was really good also. I will give them another try only if it is to get the two sides again.

Good local BBQ spot. Pretty decent BBQ sandwiches, hot wings, and stuffed potatoes. Service is prompt and the beer is cold! Great place to go if you want good food at a good price and you are in a hurry!

Called in a pick-up order. Asked for the brisket on a po' boy bun, they were happy to oblige. The beef brisket po' boy was delicious, as was the corn pudding. The folks were friendly, both on the phone and when picking up my order.

Kind of a mix between a fast food, sit down and take out place. The food was solid but not the best BBQ I had ever had. I would eat here again to try more menu items as I did enjoy it. The service was fantastic as well which ups the whole experience. Overall a good solid place to grab some BBQ grub!

Brisket was tender, but not flavorful. My coke was flat. The waitress's response was "not much we can do about that". Bread pudding was too sweet. Beans pretty flavorless.

Mad they really think this place serves BBQ. I ordered the bbq pulled pork with potato salad and veggies (which were hard ass baby carrots and broccoli). The food was cold and nothing barbecue about it. It was my first and last visit.

It wasn't busy, so the bartender offered me free sweet tea while i waited. My only complaint was the skimping of the bbq sauce.

I am a fan of Voodoo BBQ. They have really, really good BBQ. The menu has the fundamental elements that any BBQ place should: Brisket, pork, ribs, sausage, chicken. Sides are done right. They have a deal now where they give you a scratcher game with every entree. I ended up with a couple free deserts ($4 value each) and three kids (7, 5, and 3) plowed through the brownie with ice cream and white chocolate bread pudding in about 2.5 minutes. Good stuff. If you've never been to a Voodoo, you need to give it a go - its all done very well. I had an issue at another Voodoo location, wrote a comment on the corporate website, and the manager made it absolutely right the next day. This was followed up by a note by the corporate assist VP. For anyone at Voodoo listening: what gives with the really odd design of this place? There's another dining area off to the side- should be one large room. The space where they want you to que up in line is sort of cave-ish and off-puting. You need a couple tables that will seat more than 4 people.

I am a pork aficionado. Needless to say, I pretty much always order the pulled pork platter here, and it hasn't disappointed me yet. The meat is moist and tender with a light smoky flavor. You sauce it yourself--there's three on the table to choose from (Cane Vinegar, "Mojo"/regular, and Mango Crystal/spicy). I generally go for the Mojo sauce. And the sides! I am a sweet potato fiend, and their sweet potato souffle is AMAZING. It could almost be dessert. Corn pudding is also awesome, and the potato salad is super tasty too. It's counter service in the main dining area, and full service in the bar area. This location has changed hands fairly often (was empty for a while post-K, then was Ground Pati, now Voodoo), but I really hope Voodoo stays here. Metairie needs a good barbecue place.

This place was awesome! It was my last day of vacation, and this place was across the street from my hotel. My only other choice seemed to be subway, so I immediately chose this place. Staff was very friendly, and helpful. Ordered a grilled tuna steak, with a bunch of interesting sides (sweet potato souffle, and corn pudding). it was so good... and I loved their BBQ sauces. If I lived near one of these, i''d be there quite a bit i think...

We had been to this restaurant several times and the last time we were there I ordered a hamburger that was excellent. Tonight was one of the worst burgers I have ever had. I always order my burger medium rare and it came back close to well done. Everyone knows that if you are medium rare burger lover you will never be happy with no pink in the burger at all. Pointed it out to the wait person and she really could not have been bothered to resolve the problem. Did not offer to get another burger for me or have a portion of the bill reduced. Needless to say this will be the last time we go to Voo Doo BBQ for anything. If you want a good burger stick to restaurants that know how to cook burgers the way you want them, i.e., Ground Pati, Houstons or even Applebee's.

Stopped by at 1:30 on Sun for late lunch. Had craving for loaded baked potato. Sat at table for over 10 min. Two other tables seated after me were tended to with drink orders. At least four different staff members walked past table twice. Guess they don't have table service part down yet. Left and tried to call manager to let him/her know, but hung up after being on hold 5 min. Guess I should have read the reviews before I went in, as this appears to be typical on Sundays.

This place was just amazing! Granted, it's a different sort of 'BBQ' than I am used to... but I'm from Minnesota, so I have no idea what to expect here. I ordered a sausage platter with a sweet potato souffle and a corn.. hash thing, it was all absolutely wonderful! We sat in the bar and the waitress was fantastic! Everyone was great, the food was great and very well priced- we will definitely be back.

I have had almost everything off the menu here (except ribs) and i have never had a bad meal. Quality has been good and they have never gotten my order wrong. There is a little wait for the food (around 10 minutes, sometimes more) but the food has always been hot.

No fooling. I have been to a thousand BBQ joints and NEVER EVER has anything ever tasted this AWESOME! Their own BBQ sauce is a great compliment to the meat, although it does not need any help. The most tender, juicy, not over smoked brisket and pulled pork I have ever had! The hint of pecan smoke totally puts it over the top!! Beans are excellent as well. I can't wait to get back to NOLA and eat there for a 3rd time!!!

We came for dinner on a Sunday night over Labor Day weekend. The place was practically empty so we were seated right away. They have high chairs for children, but the first one we got was broken so we had to exchange it for another for our 16 month old daughter. A server came to our table right away and got our drink order wrong. Trying to get his attention to fix the drink and ask questions about the menu was very difficult. It was like he couldn't be bothered with us. We finally put in our order and got our food rather quickly. One side item was missing from my husband's plate and again we had difficulty getting the server's attention to fix it. He also never brought the vinegar my husband asked for. I had the pulled pork and smoked turkey breast with corn pudding and Gris-Gris greens. The smoked turkey breast was a little dry but the rest of my food was outstanding. My husband got the pulled pork, BBQ carnival, and smoked brisket with corn pudding, greens and sweet potato casserole. All his food was very good. He liked the BBQ carnival the best. Overall the food was great but the service was really lacking.
