I had a pretty basic Meatball poboy. They did a good job. Your average Metairie Italian food/sandwich joint. There's not really much more to say about it.

Food was delicious, however there wasn't much "meatball" to the meatball sandwich. Was expecting a bit more substance, and it gets lost somewhat in the bread.

Ok.... I am back in my hometown, visiting from VA, and I must confess that I have never eaten at Giorlando's, before. What a shame! The food was excellent, inexpensive, and our service was fantastic. Yes, it is a bit challenging to get into the parking lot because of the location, but if you head away from the restaurant and make a U-turn a ways down, you are all good. We did this in rush hour traffic with minimal expletives used! It was a Monday night when we ventured in, so I ordered the red beans and rice, of course. They were perfect. EXCELLENT sausage. My husband's crawfish etouffee was amazing. A friend's eggplant parm was so good I had to restrain him from licking the plate. And, my kids - picky eaters - found wonderful things to eat, as well. My oldest got angel hair pasta with just parmesan and butter and my youngest ordered the fried shrimp and declared them "better than Red Lobster!" Ha ha ha.....The portions were large and the dining room was quaint. We ended the meal with a Cannoli. Just perfect! Giorlando's you are now on my "must eat at when back in New Orleans" list. Thanks!

The breading that they use reminds me of my grandmother's recipe so for that alone, it's got my vote for one of the best little Italian places in Metairie. I have never had a bad meal here and it's always a good place to go when you can't think of anywhere else to go and you need a place that will cater to a family. House made chips are amazing.

Giorlando's is a place you might quickly drive by and miss if you're not paying attention. The parking lot takes a little getting used to and goes from deserted around 11am to packed by Noon. They always have some good Italian food and I love the lasagna (and the chicken and veal parmesan). They also have some very good po boys and the roast beef is very tasty here. The service has always been friendly and quick and the atmosphere seems very family friendly. I've only been here for lunch but this is a great spot for a quick and tasty meal.

I lived in the area for years and missed out on this place. I was back in town visiting and got the crawfish étouffée. The food and service was great. There is some effort in arriving and parking at Giorlando's, but it is worth it.

I've been coming here for years and I've always enjoyed their food. It's a mom and pop shop that's dressed up to be a nice restaurant! Staff is great! Chef is not. Warning: Don't try to modify your order at all!

Love this place, the food is excellent and the service is always great! If it can be made in house they do it. Give it a try you won't be disappointed

Holy crow, this place is amazing. The staff is a well-oiled machine and as nice as can be. They were putting holiday decor away and no one missed a beat - our waiter was in the attic and our food just kept coming out! :) We started with the Shrimp Artichoke and Spinach Bread - it's indescribably good. Think shrimp toast, but creamy and gooey on top. Side salads were really bright and fresh. I had Mama G's Eggplant and OHMYGOD. Delicious battered eggplant slices on top of angel hair pasta with (are you ready for this?) SHRIMP AU GRATIN SAUCE. It was the best thing I've eaten in a long time, and I only eat good food. :) My husband had blackened shrimp that were huge, sweet and spicy and the homemade chips. We had no room for dessert, but there's always next time! A true gem in Metairie, right there at Bonnabel and Vets.

Never, ever had a bad meal here. Would eat here every week if I could! Hate that they're not open on the weekends since we live in Hammond and usually can only make it to Metairie on Sunday. The homemade chips are to die for. But the fries and mashed potatoes are fantastic too. One of the few places where it's hard to decide what to have because it's all great! Love love love the people there and the service. Oh and the muffeletta (I never know if I spell it right) is by far the best around. Highly recommended!! (If you can catch them when they're open lol)

Love the homemade potato chips. The blackened chicken Alfredo is the best. Whenever we go in our regular server Shannon always knows what we like to drink and asks if I going to try something different. The shrimp&artichoke ,spinach bread is to dye for best I have ever had. Great neighborhood place to eat and meet friends. We always see someone we know when we come on for lunch or dinner it is close to our business Bee's Wedding. & Event Designs.

I'd give it 3 and a half stars if I could. We ordered lunch by phone. They told me it would be 10 minutes. I pulled up 10 minutes later and the parking lot was just plain packed. I didn't think there was any way my food was ready. It was. And while the place was packed, everyone working there looked calm and collected. But this is about the food. The roast beef po boy I ordered was fantastic. 5 stars for that. The french fries, however, were some of the worst I've had in years. Limp and undercooked and gummy inside like they were reheated in the microwave. 0 stars for that. My girlfriend's muffaletta was probably her favorite ever. And the eggplant sticks were ok...nothing special. But that po boy...that goes a long way for me. But please guys...work on your fries.

Often do to go orders ... Excellent food that I love but the front desk/ to go clerk is soooo rude it destroys my appetite. I'm sure she is a relative or friend of someone important at the restaurant but they should reconsider who patrons deal with on a regular basis. Not a deal breaker but just a suggestion for management

This neighborhood restaurant is italian with some cajun to boot. I ordered their roast beef po boy along with their home made chips. The waitress told me that the roast beef po boy is their most popular version. I read other reviews about this sandwich but I must tell you that it was good but not great. The bread is good but very toasty. More than I like. The roast beef didn't have enough gravy and debris that I like. Don;t get me wrong, it was a good sandwich but I can only give it a 3. The home made chips were very good and and large enough for two to share. Service was good. I would like to try this restaurant again for some of their italian food. If I get the chance to do that maybe I can rate this place a 4.

Let me say that the service in this place is about the best thing going. I ordered a club sandwich that was probably the worst sandwich I ever had. It was made with a single slice of turkey and a single slice of ham. If you advertise yourself as a poboy place and your club poboy which costs $9.20 then I expect a poboy stuffed sandwich. What I got was a bread sandwich with little to no meat. Very disappointed. Will not go back.

I tried the roast beef and it was great (had a gift certificate). The guy that gave it to my now wife, told her it was a front . I think he was trying to impress her! But she took me there with his gift certificate. Ha! I would have to give Mothers on Poydras #1 as my dad worked downtown for a time and every Saturday we would eat there. Another rumor. That mothers got bought out by the casino across the street. Not unimaginable being that the owners were in their 70's when I was a kid. They either sold out or are skeletons by now.

SO GOOD! The lasagna and the Mama G's eggplant are so delicious! The sandwiches are awesome too. The service is not always consistently good but it's never been down right bad. Great for a laid back night with a friend or loved one.

The location is really not ideal (in a small corner with terrible access) but the food is. Love the po-boys here. The bread is what separates their po-boys from others. The bbq beef is just right. The roast beef po-boy is one of the best in the city. Get the homemade potato chips instead of the fries. They are served right out of the fryer and are seasoned perfectly. The lasagna and meatalls and spaghetti are delicious too! Not many Italian restaurants in NOLA are comparable to Giorlando's IMO besides Cafe Nino and Irene's.

Good food......good service......not open on weekends. Would I return? Absolutely. Fair pricing for good food.

Tried this place earlier this evening and definitely enjoyed it! The lasagne was very delicious as was the grilled chicken with tomato basil pasta. After all the fine food, we tried the awesome banana white chocolate bread pudding!! It was an OMG moment! Strongly recommend this place.

I've been coming here for over 20 years-- and still have yet to find a better roast beef po'boy. Served on a toasted sesame seed bread dripping with gravy likes it's supposed to, and not too salty like many others I've had. Everything else I've had here had also been good. The spaghetti and meatballs and Italians excellent, as are the oyster and shrimp poboys. Considering it actually has a decent atmosphere and good places to sit, the prices are also quite low.

Giorlando's is a great mom and pop restaurant. It's really easy to miss if you aren't looking for it and I still use the Rally's as a landmark. This place gets a lot of business during lunch rush so finding parking can sometimes be a challenge. Luckily, once you do get a parking spot the staff is used to getting lunch crowds so they will get you in and out in a timely manner. My favorite app is the spinach and artichoke dip served with fluffy fried pita chips. The pita chips are crunchy and soft, I'm not sure how they pack so much wonder into one chip. It is the perfect sturdy platform for the delicious and rich spinach dip. My go to entree is usually the tomato basil chicken served with angel hair pasta and a side salad. The chicken is seasoned nicely and the pasta is so good! It has a great tomato basil flavor that is so savory it will make you want to slurp it all up, but you mustn't! or a carb overload nap will surely ensue! They definitely give you a generous portion (those Italians will get ya!) The entrees also come with a side salad. Did I mention how full I am when I leave? The service is always great and friendly. You really feel the family atmosphere. Another pro is consistency. I don't think I have ever come here and had a meal or service that was subpar.

Probably the best place for that home cooked feel. Every time I eat here I feel like I'm eating my moms food. Delish!! The salads are sooooo good. Fresh made croutons!! Pasta sauces are full of flavor and the sandwiches are perfect! You can't go wrong here. Now let's talk cannolis! Best in the city!! Definitely better than Brocatos! Fresh fresh fresh thats the key to a cannoli and they make it to order here! This is by far one of my favorite restaurants for consistently great food. Five stars plus more! Love

Food is out of this world. Amazing. But it would be better if owned by robots. The owners are major, terrible, horrid a*sholes. I would enjoy my expeienrce much, much more have the owners not have little kids running around. I remember when it was actually a restaurant. Hence it's memory. Amazing, amazing place if you are looking for a good ol' roast beef po-boy. I defiantly applaud the cooks. One experience I recall recently. I placed a to go order (roast beef po-boy with the works of course) and I seen a dark headed woman talking to another man at the counter. When I moved on I asked if she was a manager here (she wasn't wearing a uniformed so I assumed) and she responded with a nasty snarl ''Im the owner.'' Should have made a banner honey. But all is well. I will still eat there and enjoy my experience even if I must take out. Five star food. Zero star (not possible on here) hospitality.

Good food for the price but the service is slow. If you have lots of time then this is a great place for lunch if not then I would go elsewhere.

This is a family style restaurant with quite dated décor, which was likely all the rage in the 70's, like bell-bottoms. Yet, it is neat and clean. The menu is quite extensive and includes several appetizers, salads, pasta dishes (naturally), steaks, seafood, sandwiches (including a muffulletta) and desserts. They have a limited bar, featuring only a few spirits and either Kendall Jackson or Blackstone wines. The staff is nice, especially the hostess Raney and my waitress Kristie E. I really enjoyed their shrimp, artichoke & spinach bread. It's fresh, gooey mozzarella goodness atop 4 points of perfectly toasted brioche. $6.95.

Living blocks away I've driven past Giorlando's countless times now, always telling myself I need to have dinner there one day. From the outside I was expecting something like your typical poboy shop with a counter and maybe some tables, probably bench seats, that kind of thing, like a grungy run down diner. Boy was I surprised when i walked in. The inside is clean, neat, warm, and welcoming. It looks like a more upscale restaurant than most in this area on Vets. The staff was welcoming and attentive. My server wasn't able to give a solid recommendation because there was too many good items on the menu to single anything out. I ordered the cutlet dinner with fries. Turns out they make their own fries and potato chips. Next time I'll definitely give the chips a try. The cutlet was really good. It was super tender; the only thing keeping it from being a five star dish is the cutlet could have used a little sauce on it. For dessert I split an order of cannoli. Have you had cannoli? NO YOU HAVEN'T until you had one here. It's obvious this is made in house. I grew up in my grandparents' Italian bakery eating things like this all the time and without exaggeration this was the best cannoli filling I've ever tasted. It's worth a trip to Giorlando's just for this.

Giorlando's is a diamond in the rough. The fact that the tiny parking lot is usually packed during peak times is what originally lured me in. And, as I expected from the crowd, the food is great. I imagine it's like sitting in your Italian grandmother's kitchen eating her homemade cooking. (Of course, I'm not anything even remotely resembling Italian, nor were either of my grandmothers, but a girl can dream.) The service is fast and friendly. The prices are more than fair. I'm a fan.

Cheese and gravy fries, spaghetti and meatballs. All great. The service great. Sauce was so so considering I was raised in an Italian neighborhood in Chicago where pasta sauce was always on the stove. Price was very reasonable and worth every cent. All in all it was very good and would go back.

It saddens me to have to write this review because my husband and I have really enjoyed eating at Giorlando's in the past. The food is wonderful, but I have honestly never had a worse experience as a customer in my life. My husband and I ordered a meal of the Cutlet Parmesan to share and I ordered a side salad for myself. When the food was brought out the waitress commented that the plates had already been split. We commented on what a large portion it was. When she walked away, we cut into our meal and realized we had both received Eggplant Parmesan. I called the waitress over to let her know, she checked a few things, returned to our table, and confessed that she had delivered the meals to the wrong table because she did not check the ticket. She commented that she wasn't sure that anything could be done with the food since we had "already eaten it" (we literally cut into the food and didn't touch our plates again until she returned) and offered for us to keep it. She assured us that our food was still coming out. I said "I would enjoy it but I don't think my husband would." She offered a box for his plate and we took it. As she boxed it up she apologized for her mistake and I commented that it was unfortunate, but that it seemed to have worked out in our favor. While we waited on our meal to arrive I ate the Eggplant from the mistake plate and left the pasta. Our split meal arrived about 10-15 minutes later. I had them clear the plate of extra pasta. We ate and enjoyed our meal and ordered dessert to go. When the bill came we had been charged for the plate of Eggplant Parmesan that I had eaten off of as well as everything that we had ordered. I questioned our waitress thinking that there was a mistake since she had offered me the plate. She said that since I had decided to eat the food I was to be charged for it, but that we would receive the boxed meal that we had refused at no charge. She offered to have the owner come over. He sat down and argued with me that since I decided to keep the meal, I should pay for it. I told him the only reason I kept it was that I felt it was being offered to me for no charge since it would be wasted. He basically told me that he had been cheated in the past and would rather throw it away than give it to me for free. And if the waitress had indeed offered me the food at no charge then she would have to pay for it. As a restaurant manager myself, I deal with mistakes like this on a regular basis. I have never and would never treat a customer so poorly or make them to feel responsible for the mistakes of my staff. I am appalled at the way this situation was handled. The plates should have been cleared from our table right away. If the expectation was for me to pay for a mistake plate that I was being offered as it sat in front of me, that should have been clearly explained. If I had desired to order the plate that sat in front of me, I would have done that originally. I told the owner I was very unhappy with his decision, but paid the full bill. I called the waitress over and told her that I had saved her from having to pay for the food and suggested that she be more clear with her customers in the future. We will not be returning to Giorlando's.

Split the spinach and artichoke dip with my husband and we both had grilled and blackened chicken salads. Everything was good but nothing to write home about. Waitress was sweet and the place was packed at 2pm so they must be doing something right... I thought it was just ok.

This is a great choice for Italian, the food is consistant and the quality is great. Atmosphere is casual, not really a date spot just a great place to enjoy Italian. Red sauce is excellent and prices are reasonable.

On 04/09/2012 I wrote a review about this restaurant that was not very pleasant. Since then to my surprise I received a response from the owner who apologized for my bad experience. This changed my whole prospective concerning this restaurant. I believe now I had a very isolated incident. Since receiving this response I would like to change my rating and highly recommend Giorlando's as a great place to eat. The food is fantastic and I look forward to returning. Thank You

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
