King cakes are great. They are just slightly disorganized. They'll call you and threaten to sell your PREPAID king cakes.

I ordered their king cake online for delivery to my home in Austin, TX. It came a day earlier than expected which was a great surprise. The packaging was very sturdy and the cake held up wonderfully throughout the shipping process. From other photos posted I knew the icing and colored sugar would come in its own containers and that I would be decorating the cake myself. It decorates very easily and the icing was perfect. They provide decorating instructions with the cake. The taste of the cake was delicious. It was so fluffy and moist as if it was baked that morning. I read other reviews about the cakes not arriving in the condition expected so I was nervous about how it would all play out. Everything turned out great, better than i could have expected. I will definitely be purchasing from them again online. Hands down a great cake and sturdy packaging.

Silver cake is to die for. They also have fantastic red velvet and German chocolate cakes and little bite sized options, as well. They are always busy and sometimes the stress of it all can be seen on the employees face but the wonderful sweet treats still make it worth coming. It could definitely use a little sprucing up too.

Rude service is a repeat at this bakery. Tired of trying Last time I went there I asked three different people to use restroom. There are tables with chairs so I'm sure there is a law that says they have to let you use restroom. I don't know why they have to be rude. Are they overworked??Petit fors and king cakes are way better at Marguerites anyway. Cake too. Just like their macaroons.

Heaven....heaven oh heaven can't you help me? I just want to live here so I can get my sticky fingers on every gosh darn sweet they have. They are famous for their red velvet cake, which I ordered for a friend's birthday. Even though they do not take same day orders, they were able to accommodate me. Any place that can please me on such a short notice has my business!

As a 20 year NOLA resident, I have tried numerous times to embrace Gambino's. I have tried to love this New Orleans staple. I tried to believe that every one telling me that they are the best, could not be wrong. After repeatedly being subjected to rude service, when I would stop in for a slice of cake or a cookie, I decided to order my daughter a birthday cake thinking that maybe I would be better appreciated if I was dropping more cash. I let my daughter pick out a cake online. I went in and ordered the cake I wanted. It had lot and lots of trendy scroll work on it. I asked If the scroll work could be done in purple. I was told yes. Of course, I was not spared the rudeness but I had gone too far to stop now. When I went to pick up the cake, the scroll work was minimal at best and it was a bright royal blue. I had a purple birthday party to go to and a royal blue cake! The final sucker punch was the name on the cake was wrong. I explained that for 100 dollars the name and scroll work should be correct. I even pulled the picture up on my phone and showed them how the scroll work did not even resemble what was on the cake. The woman agreed. I was stunned when the woman at the counter told me I WOULD pay for the cake whether I wanted it or not. Not wanting to ruin the party, or create a scene, I paid for the sad cake and took it to Rouse's and asked them if they would they write the correct name on my Gambinos cake if I bought a cake there. Thankfully Rouse's understands customer service, the lady there was polite and sympathetic to my plight. It bothers me that Gambino's appears completely unwilling to do anything to make their mistakes right.

Dear Mr.Gambino On Thursday March 6th 2014 after receiving one of the worst King cakes ever imaginable from your bakery. I shipped the item back the same day 1 hour later. So I decided to contact the location on Veterans memorial highway to notify them of the return. The woman said well you got to call back and talk to Sharon. Next day I call back Friday Sharon who happens to be a Supervisor begin to argue loudly with me as if I made this horrible cake. She displayed no customer service what so ever. Sharon placed the blame on Randy a (Shipping manager) who had nothing to do with the poor package of the king cake and it's crushed in decorations (See photos). Sharon made no attempt to rectify the situation. So I contacted your corporate office and spoke to your lovely liar of a Secretary Vicki who had me forward numerous photos of this disgust that was sent to me. Vicki informed me you were out of town Until Monday the 10th and she promised that would yourself would give me a call. Monday came and went and still didn't receive one call not from you not from Sharon,Randy or Vicki. Then Tuesday comes and I receive a call from a woman who says we are definitely going to rectify the situation and you will receive a call by the end of the evening because we need to make sure the cake is back, like I would keep a cake and try and get another cake for free. Wednesday I call Metarie ,and The N.O. to get my money back ad get told it will be a minute before I can speak to the Manager because she is planning a Wedding Cake w/ a customer. So I proceed to call around and finally get a hold of someone who can issue a refund. Throughout this entire ordeal we practically had to walk them through the customer service process, never once were we offered anything to salvage this and keep our business.....Out with the old in with the new.....I will be trying Nonna Randazzo's as soon as possible. So Sad To Report, The Hendersons

Good baked goods but very rude staff! I always try and make a trip to the bakery when I am in town from TX. There are just some things you can't get in Austin. But after the rude service I received today I do not think I will be returning. I will give my business to Haydel's and Baum's Fine Pastries (it's worth the trip to BR).

Gambino's is famous for their Doberge, Red Velvet, Wedding, Birthday and King Cakes. They are also noted for their French bread and muffuletta bread. In addition to their cakes and breads they have great pies, cookies, petit fours, cake balls, cannoli, pastries and all sorts of other delicacies. The one thing they've really dropped the ball with is that with their olive salad they don't use 100% olive oil and they dilute the mix with cheaper vegetable oil. They have a great website where you can order many of their products and have them shipped all over.

If you are looking for amazing petit fours and doberge, this is the place to go. My husband swears by this place and rightfully so. Very, very delicious. Not the friendliest service though. If the ladies behind the counter were a bit polite, this would be 5 star for sure.

The staff is not very helpful or polite but the baked goods are fabulous. The King cakes, petit fours and lemon cake - all fresh, moist and tasty. An excellent choice in Metairie for baked goods.

A totally no-frills bakery that's as local as it gets...my tastebuds water for those amazing mini-doberge squares when I'm away (even if they aren't much to look at & generally pretty sloppy with icing :) Doberge is light, moist cakey heaven, and nobody does it like Gambino's. Though known most for their signature creation (with good reason), my family swore by their decadent, chocolatey rumballs too. I'm not as much of a fan of the Russian cake, but it's still pretty good. I'll always have fond memories of the half-lemon/ half-chocolate doberge birthday cake-- perfect because you can try both the tart-citrusy and rich-chocolately fillings at once...though recently I've expanded my palate to include the caramel and red velvet mini-squares (also yummy). Prices have definitely gone up post-Katrina, but that's fairly common with a lot of places...

Oh Gambino's ... Why must you be so far away??? And why must your petit fours be so amazing??? AND WHY DOES NOBODY SELL ANYTHING CLOSE TO THEM OUT HERE?!?!?!? I've heard the rum balls here are awesome, as well as the mini doberge cakes, but all I care about are the petit fours. Silver Almond, in particular. A small little square of wedding cake lightly dipped in almond syrup and covered in a delicate icing. With a little squirt of pastel icing on top. PERFECTION. The ladies working here aren't always the friendliest, and the place is pretty sparse, but Seriously I DON'T CARE GIMME MAH PETIT FOURS NOW PLEASE
