This place was sweet. I got the ferdi and onion rings. Onion rings were great with their own batter and dipping sauce. Sandwich was big!

The best Roast Beef Po'boy I've ever had! OMG I hate that I live in Houston. Bears makes every drive in worth it! Onion Rings are really freakin good too! Blows my mind I lived on Labarre Dr for years and never checked this place out, I'm a complete idiot!

I think I need triple bypass from watching my friends eat here!!! EVERYTHING is fried! There were french fries on the po boy! You know when people always ask "where do locals eat"? It appears Bears would be the answer to that question for roast beef po boys! The setting is awesomely dive-y and casual. The staff was awesomely friendly, fast, and super chill as well. The servings were HUGE! Seriously, ENORMOUS (hence the bypass comment). However, there were only two vegetarian items on the menu: grilled cheese and friend pickles, clearly none healthy! So if you're ready for a nice, casual, get your overindulging grub on place, Bears is the spot!

Went there today ordered a burger poboy cooked medium when it arrived it was severely over cooked so I notified the waitress and she then told me that they don,t cook burgers medium so I asked for it to be taken off my bill, she made me pay for my drink even though I wasn,t eating there. The waitresses walk around in shorts-that look two sizes too small like a neighborhood hooters but not that pretty.I have had much better poboys from po-boy King at homestead and vets, also much cleaner and doesn't,t smell like beer in the place.

Food is delivered to your table so fast and the waiters are so friendly! The roast beef Poboy au jus is by far one of the best in the whole city but you should also try the burgers or seafood poboys. If you know what's good for you, get the Ferdie. High level eat-ability. Jus does not run too much and is easily soaked up by the bread. The leidenheimer truck was delivering right when we arrived so you know that quality and you know that it's fresh. Cheese is warm and gooey. Lettuce and tomatoes were top quality freshness. Despite the location bellow the causeway, it is a clean, classy lunch spot (and smoke free unlike parasols) with excellent decor and relaxing environment. It is like a blast from the past. Thanks Christy!

Bear's is everything you want in a poboy place. It's a little dingy and its connected to Gennaro's, the oldest bar in Metry (I think). It's on the smaller side so not best for large groups, but I'm sure they try and accommodate any way they can. They don't believe in silverware or real plates because its a poboy place after all and that's exactly how it should be. My typical order is always some sort of poboy and onion rings to share. Let me start by saying, I don't even like onion rings and I NEVER order them anywhere. I'm not sure what jedi mind trick they played on me the first time, but somehow I was coerced into ordering them and immediately following my first bite my head exploded. I could not believe how good these were! I HATED onion rings seconds ago and now I was eating them like it was my job. The batter was super crunchy and didn't fall off the onion. The sauce that comes with it also has a lot to do with my new found obsession. Apparently, I am the last person on Earth who didn't know about this delicacy because I looked around and noticed every single table had onion rings on them. ok, I think I've said enough about onion rings and now its getting weird. The poboys are always great because the bread is great! Fresh Leidenheimer bread is the foundation of any good poboy. The shoyster (oyster and shrimp) is one of my favorites. The seafood is fresh Louisiana seafood and piled high between two pillows of bread. What more could you want? Lastly, the hot wings intrigued me because their hot sauce was house made. I will now go there when I have a wing craving. The chicken was very good quality and the sauce was perfect and on the thicker side so it really stuck to the meat. Very good!

Would have given the place five stars for the PoBoy if I didn't have to wait 40 mins for one sandwich. The staff wasn't all too great either

Yes, this place has great Po-Boys, huge onion rings, and a wide variety of local fare. But what really makes this place enjoyable, is the staff. The waitresses are friendly from the time you walk in till the time you leave. They even make paying the bill enjoyable. They are locals gals and really want you to enjoy yourself. Kristy, you're the best!!!!!

Tried this place for the first time after hearing a bunch of good things, after judging for myself I found the food way to salty and really long wait times

Roast Beef Poboy or bust... its all about the bread and how many napkins you use. i used plenty of napkins and the bread was delicious

Great roast beef sandwich. I added mushrooms - excellent. The decor is simple at Bear's. They have one 32" flat screen TV and one 25" old box TV, but then again it's not a sports bar. Great food and service.

This is becoming one of my favorite Poboy spots. I've never dined in but it's always packed at lunch. We've done take-out several times when we've had guests in town and it never disappoints. The roast beef is the best! Our guests have always raved about how good the poboys from here are. Sometimes the take-out isn't super quick but it's because they are so busy and that's the sign of a good restaurant!

Delicious and exactly what I was wanting in a roast beef po'boy. I was born in Metairie and have fond memories of eating delicious and messy po'boys when I was a little girl. There was always this flavor in a po'boy that I was seeking..it's the combination of lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, New Orleans style bread and tender, juicy roast beef that I look for. Well Bear's DID NOT disappoint me. It was exactly what I remember a po'boy to taste like. Thank you, Bear's! You guys have given me hope that it still exist. We also ordered their signature onion rings. Maybe one of the best onion rings Ive ever eaten. The batter was crispy and seasoned perfectly. The onions tender and easy to chew. They serve it with a delicious horse radish based dip that compliments the onion rings very well. The topper to all of this great food is the waitstaff. Smiling, helpful and very friendly. If you are in the area and craving a good roast beef po'boy head over to Bear's you wont be disappointed!

One of my favorite places for lunch. Until today, it's been a no brainier to order the classic hot roast beef sandwich. But I got the BBQ version today fully dressed. Wow!! Still very good!! Enjoy!

Was craving a big sloppy gravy po-boy, but they serve theirs with au jus instead, so it just didn't hit the spot. Really super friendly service. Just nothing special about the po-boy it is supposed to be famous for.

My favorite roast beef po-boy is found at Bear's! Leidenheimer bread and beef that totally absorbs the gravy. Doesn't seem messy like most roast beef po-boys because the beef captures most of the gravy when it is soaking in it. Once you bite into it though this roast beef po-boy doesn't disappoint!

Bear's is DA BOMB!!! If you want a truly great po-boy, get in your car & head for Bear's!!! I like the sloppy roast beef po-boy, the catfish po-boy, the Who Dat burger with a hefty burger patty & a sausage patty (this one's a keeper, it's sooo good!!!), the fried pickles appetizer. . .this is all I've tried so far but I'm looking forward to trying more items.

Not a roast beef Po boy kinda guy, more shrimp, but this place converted me. Hands down the best roast beef Po boy in the city. If you like such things and have not been here you must try. The burgers are also excellent. It's simply one of my favorite places on the city. The fried pickles are salty but highly addictive and are also highly recommended.

Just had one of the best roast beef po boys ever. There fried jalapeño was hot and had the perfect dipping sauce. The service was two thumbs up.

Bear's is my favorite roast beef in the city. Onion rings are awesome too. Those are the only things I can recommend, because they are the only things I will ever eat there. I don't want to miss out by ordering anything else. Po boy is kind of pricey, but totally worth it. It's a great roast beef po boy that seems to fly under the radar.

THE BEST roast beef poboy. I ordered one 3 days in a row. Just amazing.

Today's lunch was quite possibly the best poboy I've had in 30 years! I grew up close to this place and if you don't have good food at your restaurant in New Orleans/Metairie you don't last long! Great service, outstanding taste, friendly! What more could you ask for? It's no wonder this place is crowded for lunch!

Granted my first Po Boy experience, and a very good one I would think. The service was also very good, and especially polite.

Yelp steered us right, although we got a little twisted around trying to find it. Somehow, we managed to arrive just ahead of the lunch crowd, but folks were waiting for a table when we left. Onion rings really are fab, and you don't need the large order if there are only two in your party. Hubs had THE roast beef poboy, and I had the shrimp only because they were out of oysters. Wonderful tartar sauce. We would definitely go out of our way to come back. It was awesome!

Don't know if they just had an off nite, but that was the worst shrimp poboy ever. The lettuce was rotten and the shrimp were under cooked. It was just a mess. I'll have to give them another try because so many people rave about them.

This is a location of the Bear's family of eateries that are also in Covington, Slidell, and Mandeville that is located behind Genaro's Bar on Metairie Road. They are noted all over the Greater New Orleans area for their roast beef po boys. Their roast beef has more of an au jus than an actual gravy and they seem to use more of a sub bun than po boy bread so it is more of a roast beef sandwich than a classic po boy. I do like the flavor and texture of the meat and it certainly is a good roast beef sandwich but it is a zero to 1 napkin sloppy level and I like my roast beef po boys dripping with thick gravy and want to have to use multiple napkins to clean myself up after diving into my food. They offer several more po boy options with my other favorites being the oyster, shrimp, and BBQ beef. They also have some very good burgers here with my favorites being the blue cheese and the "New Orleans Burger" that is topped with their roast beef debris. The service here is friendly, quick, and efficient and the atmosphere is definitely a dive type environment. They have a lot of nearby parking here which is a big bonus for making this place very convenient. This is certainly a good spot for a quick and filling lunch or dinner.

Bear's has the best roast beef I've ever eaten. Their Ferdie po boy (roast beef with grilled ham and swiss cheese) is out of this world. The shrimp and oyster are great too, and overflowing with seafood. Don't be fooled by the fact it's in a bar, this place has serious po boys.

Roast Beef Po-boy was ok at best; no gravy? Onion rings were good. The place was packed so food service was a bit slow. Might go back but not at lunch rush.

i think their roast beef po boy is overrated but i LOVE a sloppy roast beef. their oyster poboy, however, was perfect. PERFECT. the oysters were fried hard and golden -- something you really don't see anymore! the onion rings are also amazing.
