My initial impression of Taj Mahal was that it looked like a sketchy hole in the wall, complete with second-hand tables and chairs that came from an old Applebee's. The food and service, however, more than atones for the decor: I am always greeted with a wave and a smile whenever I come in, the portions are always generous, the chef always comes to the table to ask how everything tastes, and brings a small lagniappe--either an extra side dish, a dessert, or a new item he's planning to put on the menu--to my table. I usually get grilled chicken or lamb. The food is cooked to order, and comes out hot and fresh. Most meals I have ordered always come with a small salad along with a generous portion of rice. The drinks come in cans and there is no soda fountain so no refills. Recently they have put out a buffet spread but I have yet to try it.

Got take out tonight from Taj Mahal. Was already excited cause the wife and in-laws finally let me get Indian, but was really really impressed with the meal. Got samosas, chicken tikka (had some heat), lamb gyro (cut kinda like modern cracklin... Chunks, not slices. But not fatty), a spinach dish (also had some spice), and lamb kebab. Lamb gyro and chicken tikka were my favorites. Samosas were among the best I've had, and I actually saw the one gentleman in the back making my naan to order. Didn't have a curry, cause the menu on yelp didn't show one, but I Assure you goat and curry (or goat curry) will be on my order next go round. Keep this place around, LC!

Fantastic food!! Everything is spiced just right. Chicken Gyro is the best I've ever tasted!! Buffet has many things to choose from. Will definitely return and I tell everyone about this place!!

I ordered chicken tikka masala and got chicken tandoori ( or whatever that was). Naan was soggy. Rice was ok. This place is more like a Indian/Pakistani/Mediterranean food mix sorta place so don't expect to find dishes you would usually find in an all Indian restaurant. I was very disappointed.

My daughter used come here every week , but last time we went there everything changed , the food are taste different!!! All the staff are not the same anymore, we didn't see radja and his wife anymore, did they changed the owner ? And my daughter decided not to come back coz she said it doesn't taste the same !

The atmosphere is 100% diner that could be featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. It seems the majority of business is take out. However, the food is out of this world. Healthy portions with a price point for any budget. I will return next time I'm in Lake Charles.

What do you do after gulping down a delicious drive-thru daiquiri? Driving is certainly out of the question, so how about some awesome Indian food? This place has amazing vegetarian curries AND it is really close to the daiquiri huts down the road. What is better to soak up alcohol than a nice spicy curry and some warm naan bread? Nothing! I ordered the okra, and it was BY FAR the best okra I have ever had. It was extremely spicy, which I love! Their veggie dishes change daily, and the meal was served with fragrant delicious rice and crisp salad with yogurt/raita dressing. The restaurant is bare-bones but comfortable, and they have free wi fi too. The prices are very reasonable. Just walk in and look at the board on the right to see what the daily specials are. The naan was warm, fluffy and delicious. Great place, thanks again to Yelp for making my travels ever easier and more enjoyable!

I love this place! I went here with my date for lunch. We both ordered the lamb gyro. It was lamb gyro meat with a salad tatziki (I hope I'm spelling that correctly) sauce and long grain rice. The meat was slightly saltier than I would have preferred but the sweet rice and fresh salad balanced it quite nicely. They did not season the rice so it's natural sweet flavor was very nice. The salad was dressed with either a little ranch or tatziki sauce. There was more sauce on the side which I dipped my gyro in and it was really good! It was a great place to go for lunch! I will certainly be back!

This place took a massive dive in quality after getting rid of their old chef/staff. Dishes I've ordered for months...the food is completely different and pretty much inedible. From a guaranteed weekly stop at one of my favorite places in Lake Charles to a place I will not visit again.

Tried this place for the first time today. I had the chicken gyro and my sister had the chana masala. Both were delicious! I'll definitely be going back!

My new favorite restaurant in Lake Charles! I looooove indian food, and I loooove that we finally can get it in Lake Charles! Taj Mahal is right across the street from McNeese Univ, and my hubby and I went there the first night they were opened. I ordered the chicken tikka and he got the lamb kabobs. The ladies there are so nice and the food came fast. They have lots of comfy booths to sit in. Our food was amazing! The whole time we were eating we just kept saying how delicious it was! Neither my husband and I are indian, but we just love the food. I have had indian food in New Orleans and Houston restaurants before and Taj Mahal's is just as good if not better! It was so good we went back just a few days later! This time we both got the butter chicken masala. Not on their menu, but it was their special that day. My recommendation is if they have the butter chicken masala, get it because it was sooooooo good!! But you can't go wrong with anything here because everything is yum!

Went for 3rd time (we'll keep coming) - I still adore the butter chicken masala (my fav), and recently enjoyed the spicy red dal (lentil) curry, chana (chickpea) curry, naan (flatbread), and the crunchy samosas (pastry filled with seasoned potatoes & peas)!

Disgusting restaurent. Please don't waste your money here. Being an Indian I can say the owner is too greedy to earn money. It's too costly and very little in quantity.
