Eat their hibatchi over their sushi. I had their sushi rolls and their spicy mayo is not spicy and their eel sauce is way too thick on the rolls. My hubby's hibatchi filet and shrimp were awesome though! Yum yum sauce is Delish and their fried rice was the best part along with the shrimp. Tasty! I'd come back for the hibatchi.

Friend and I arrived close to closing time, the staff was very accommodating and allowed us time to review the menus before deciding on our meals. We sat in the sushi side of the restaurant which had only one other table with patrons. Food came in a timely manner, really fresh fish and amazing array of dipping sauces! Vibe of the restaurant is very hip and chill, appealing to a younger crowd. Great exhibition of collectable toys and memorabilia. Wish we had more time to explore. Restaurant would probably benefit with a live DJ (what my friend said).

This restaurant is my favorite restaurant in Lafayette. As you walk inside you can see a nice bar, sushi bar to the left, and hibachi tables to the right. The hibachi tables have an amazing view of the lake so you can enjoy the view while being entertained by the chefs and eating the best hibachi in town. The sushi here is always on point, every ingredient is in the perfect proportions. always tastes fresh and delicious, no matter when I go and what I order. The service is great, they seem to have eliminated all of the staff that wasn't very pleasant from previous experience; all servers/hostesses/chefs that I interact with are very friendly, professional, and knowledgable. Aside from the great food and place, the TOYS are what makes this place come alive. this is obviously a fairly old building that probably needs some renovating here and there, but the amazing collection of toys that are displayed all throughout the restaurant really give it a good vibe to the place. children love this place, adults love this place, and anyone in between love this place. my friends and I are always choosing Tokyo Live when we want to go eat out. they also have two nice private rooms for parties. great for photos. If you're looking for a place to eat for a birthday, a night out, prom, or even just a casual dinner, this is the place. I will continue going here over and over, they just improve every time I go. DO NOT be discouraged by the negative reviews! these are the few of thousands that have visited this restaurant who had a bad experience, and we all have them. no business is perfect! trust me, none of which I have brought here has had anything less than a great time! note: this is not to be mistaken for Tokyo on Ambassador.

Dump. Period. Not quite the end. The facility is in disrepair and despite the many proclamations of awards mounted throughout the restaurant, it's of subpar quality. And to add insult to injury, in addition to using imitation crab (and not calling it so on the menu), my waiter was kind enough to inform me that "it's traditional in Japanese cuisine to use imitation crab." Um, no.

This place completely ruined my wife's birthday and the mgmt was completely worthless. 1 waitress, 1 chef, 2 grills....FOR 20 PEOPLE! The food used to be good and we would go there at least twice a month. I will never go there again and I tell EVERYONE not to go there.

This place is truly and utterly lacking in every way possible. If i could give it 0 stars i would. My husband and I sat at the hibachi with a large group of friends. The service was lackluster, slow, and completely nonchalant. While our server was nice she lacked any kind of "oomph." I suspected she knew she was going to get her automatic 18% gratuity because we were a large party. What I mean by this is drinks were not consistently refilled and she did not check on us at all to see how our experience was. The miso soup came with only a small amount of greens, no tofu, and no mushrooms. It tasted like salty chicken broth more than miso. The hibachi chef was as expected for a hibachi restaurant. Friendly fast, and entertaining. However, the food and it's flavor was severely sub-par. Underseasoned and tasted like something I could make at home. For sake, 3 beers, and sharing the least expensive hibachi item on the menu (chicken) we spent $70 which included the 18% gratuity. We also waited for awhile for the food to actually start cooking. It seemed like they were extremely understaffed for a Friday night which made this drawn out experience even worse. For going out to eat this was just absolutely depressing. This place needs a huge upgrade. It seems like it is forever stuck in mediocrity which is not okay when they charge top dollar. Do yourself a favor and bring you and your spouse, family, friends, etc to tsunami or tokyo on ambassador.

This place gets only 2 stars for one reason, the manager or owner is a total jerk! The hubby & I have been here several times over the years & the food has actually improved, the service is pretty much ok...we went in at 8:50 on a Thursday night & the server said he would be right with us to seat us...we heard someone yelling in another language from the back & then the server tells us they are closed & that he "forgot" to turn the sign! They are normally open until 10pm, we weren't planning on sitting at a hibachi table anyway...as we were leaving other couples were coming in & we informed them that they were closed...this isn't the first time this has happened! One day I walked in with a co-worker at 1pm for lunch & the guy yells at me from behind the sushi bar "we closed!!!No lunch today!" I guess they're allergic to money! I don't know how they were voted best hibachi by the local paper...guessing they cheated! I will spend my money where the service is impeccable, the owners are NICE, & the food is excellent...at Dozo or Shangri La!!! Bye Felicia!

We took our family here as a Christmas Gift, and I must say, after reading all of the negative reviews, we were a little reluctant to go through with our reservation plans. But, I must say, I am glad we took the chance. We spoke to the manager when we got there and told her we had brought the children And grandchildren there as a Christmas gift and that we were a little hesitant because of the negative reviews. She told us that frankly there had been some problems for a while, but they had replaced a lot of their staff. And things were going good now. We were not disappointed! We had a great time! They put us in the karaoke room, so we had a blast singing and cutting up. The food was excellent and our chef took extra effort to entertain us at the Hibachi grill. Also our server was very attentive, and kept our drinks filled and went the extra mile to see to it that we were taken care of. If you went a while back and had a negative experience, I would recommend that you give them another shot!

Pretty good sushi for Louisiana. I'm from California and it is almost a food group. I got something I had before so I could tell how good it bad it would be. And they did ok. Only thing that could be better is the service. When you say you need a minute that doesn't mean disappear for 30 minutes. Also it was freezing in there. It was not like it was 100 degrees outside so I could have done without the meat locker temps. It was a little weird to have the sushi be served on a regular plate. It would have been nice to have it served on the traditional plates. Over all I think I'd go back of I was visiting again.

The food is sub par, the wait staff is rude and inexperienced, the decor looks like a toddlers bedroom, and it is a blessing that it is dim lighted because the paint job is horrible and the dust and mold is caked on. The are plenty of Good hibachi and sushi places in Lafayette and this isn't one of them.

Dirty !! I don't know about you but the last thing I want to see when I sit at a sushi bar is the soap scum streaks on the sushi bar or nasty floors. Oh....and don't look up, you will see all the cob-webbs. Service sucks, they could not even remember to bring me sake. I had to ask 4 times.

This restaurant is not to be confused with "Tokyo" on Ambassador Rd & Johnston. I dined at this other place for the first time recently, and would recommend this place over Tokyo Live. So, if you are looking for good sushi in the area, go to "Tokyo"

I was lured in by the two rolls for $7 lunch special. First time I went the service wasn't great and the food was OK, so I went back a second time ... I sat there for 15 minutes with no service. No one came by to take the drink order, nothing. It was lunch time. No working person has that much time to burn. Frustrated, I got up to leave, told the hostess what happened and asked for a manager. None were on duty. I'm never going back.

Eh, the food was OK. Service was good. I arrived for dinner with a party of 2 during dinner hours and the hibachi side of the restaurant had a 30 minute wait due to the lack of chefs, even though the place was fairly vacant. They need to hire more people.

Awful!! Won't waste my money there again. Service was mediocre, food was barely edible and the place smelled bad.

8:30 arrival ... Seated at 9:15 ... 10:05 just received salad and soup ... Guests at our hibachi table have had time for three smoke breaks... Chef finally arrives after a talk with the manager (Mike). Not please with the service. Entertaining night once we FINALLY got to eat. If service gets better, I would consider again.

Food was ok. Service was horrible. Our order got messed up 3 times, drinks never got refilled and we had to hunt down our own silverware, napkins. All we ordered was soup and sushi. In the end, they messed up the bill too. I don't know what the name was for the Bartender but he was cool. Don't waste you're time at this place.
