My husband and I come here all the time. Overall: food is good, our service is usually always good, and the wait is rarely long. Broken down: Hibachi : we love the rice the most. Everything is always seasoned well. Our steaks is always cooked rare the way we like it and the chef is always happy. Sushi: the rice is prepared well., we usually order our basics;the vegetable roll, rainbow roll, Hayley's roll (not fried), and Phil roll. We've never been disappointed with it. My only con: I ordered toro one time, I paid (if I can remember it well) $10 a piece or &10 for 2 nigiri pieces. I know what toro is supposed to taste like, I know how it's supposed to feel. I received a still frozen piece of fish that smelled fishy. Not too happy that I paid for that.

I like Japanese food. I like sushi and sashimi. I can't say I love it because I elicited peals of laughter from my Japanese hosts in Tokyo when new rounds of sushi came which were so weird I couldn't be convinced to try them. "Ah, you too American, ha, ha, ha"; you fill in the accent. So, I don't meet the love it standard. Shinto is good Japanese food. I had sushi and it was very high quality, priced average, service was very gracious and efficient. The restaurant is clean and comfortable. I rarely get to go eat sushi here in Lafayette because my wife doesn't like Japanese food. However, Shinto had a number of types of food including tempura and hibachi grill food. So, I'm going to take her there and let her try it. Japanese food is a natural for Lafayette, the home of Cajun cuisine. We have plenty of seafood, we love to eat and the economy is oil and gas based. Oil and gas is naturally a very international business so there is a wide variety of restaurant types from all over the world. Shinto will be my "go to" place for Japanese.

Ok I'm not a fan! While bigger is sometimes better, the nigiri was just too big, but tasty. That was about the best thing about it. The tollways far too loose, falling apart with the sticks. I think they really focus on volume verses quality of product. My preference for sushi is unrushed dining; certainly not to be experienced here. For sure I've had worse sushi but conversely I've had much better!

Note : This review is for sushi alone. Service and Decor were fine. Staff was friendly, location seems newer and clean. Only reason I am giving 2 stars versus 1. Now on to the food. Ordered 3 rolls, (see picture) - New Year, special eel and Tiger eye. All three lacked freshness, had very bland flavors. Dont let the picture fool you, these are the size of your traditional california rolls, but much more costly. Special eel, the eel didnt have any flavor and as can see from picture wasn't prepared properly, rice not consistent and falling apart. New year was OK, however again, lacked any real flavor. The Tiger eye was borderline appalling. White fish was complete rubber and tuna was overcooked to have taste similar to canned. Also, other minor annoyances were TV selection. I was only one sitting at the bar but TV can be seen across room, Bizarre Foods w/ Andrew Zimmerman, sure, lets watch him eat random bugs etc while we eat. Plate sushi was served on was light, school tray plastic and while only cosmetic, using what I assume is another location that is owned, Osaka, labeled chopsticks? Just odd with newer restaurant and advertising another. Overall, doubtful I will be coming back. Lafayette has a TON of other sushi options and if it were not for me being a little pressed for time I would have just gone to Oishi. Not enough here to want me to give them another shot. Best of luck

The place was clean. The employees were friendly. The volcano roll was tasty. The edamame came after the meal, which was different. Also the hand cloths came after the meal, but smelled very fresh. Next time I am in Lafayette, I look forward to trying a different sushi place.

i just started getting into sushi about a year ago and I'd have to say this is my favorite place in Lafayette so far. We had the BBQ squid and tataki tuna for an appetizer. The tuna was my favorite by far. I had the Honolulu sushi (because I love salmon, tuna, and a little cream cheese) and my friend had the Tiger which was deep fried. I was hesitant to try her deep fried sushi (who deep fries sushi?) but it had so much flavor. Seriously impressed with the food. The best part is it's all around $10. The service was ok. Long story short, if you like sushi go here.

Shinto is in my opinion, the best sushi in Lafayette. The spicy crunchy tuna and salmon on fire are definite winners. We ordered a plate of shrimp fried rice with yum yum sauce as a side. All were excellent. Miso soup is the best I've ever had. Overall Shinto is a great place for casual sushi or hibachi.

Honestly, why is everyone reviewing the FAX of Shinto?? Right now, I'm like a monkey seeing other monkeys jumping off the bridge, and I'm jumping with them.. Anyhow.. this was our first time here, and to my surprise, it had a lot of customers, I never thought of Shinto when I'm craving for sushi. It had a nice ambiance, and the employees here are attentive and nice. We had the following: - Beef Tataki - lightly seared beef with ginger and green onion with a japanese vinaigrette - this was not bad, a little bit more sauce would of made it 10 times better though - Yellowtail Neck - this is probably the worst yellowtail neck I ever eaten.. it was not all crisp, and the flavoring of this thing.. omg, it smells like straight fish sauce.. and not good at all - Salmon Sashimi - the salmon sashimi was decent, wish it could come out a little colder - Rock N Roll - Shrimp tempura, snow crab, avocado, and cucumber - your generic rock & roll, not bad, but nothing to really sing about - Haley's - (Deep fried) Snow crab, cream cheese, shrimp tempura and avocado drizzle sauce, and spicy mayo - probably the highlight of the day, creamy and fried to crisp Not sure if I would come back or not, but most likely not.

Went back after a time off. Hibachi was great. Nad news is that we witnessed one of the sushi chefs wipe his sweat on his arm and wipe his nose with his hand and continue to make sushi without washing his hands. He saw me watching him and immediately knelt down. I notified the management, they seemed concerned, but we went back a week later and he was still there.

First meal after landing in Lafayette visiting friends. Lots of variety with the sushi and rolls. Decent quality and freshness of the fish, watch out for the amount of spicy mayo they use if you're a beginner. Waited maybe 20mins for the food after we ordered though.

There are SO many sushi places in Lafayette, it is nearly impossible to try them all. After being turned on to Shinto by a friend, I am convinced that this is my favorite sushi around! The rolls are huge, reasonably priced, and absolutely delicious! The service is quick and friendly. I have been making my way through the entire sushi menu, getting something different every time I go, and haven't had many that I wasn't crazy about. If you are craving sushi, this is the place to go! Invite me when you do!

Hands down best sushi in Lafayette. Wish it had a downtown location with a hipper atmosphere, but I have yet to dine at any sushi restaurant in Lafayette that can beat their sushi!
