Great diner! Good food, good service. I've had their chicken fried steak, and the hamburger. Both were excellent! Recommended.

Locally owned and operated since 1990 Right across street from hospital Old fashion diner decor. I'll rate the food after I eat. Ok as good a breakfast as I've ever had, the one fries were totally awesome and the pancakes were homemade and the eggs were cooked just as I ordered them

First time diners. We started with fried pickles. Wow! A huge portion and very yummy! We both had the Spinach Florentine stuffed Meatloaf w/ mashed potatoes and corn maque choux. A generous portion and very good. Our server was prompt to return our plates to warm up as the food was just tepid. All in all, we will be back. Good food, good prices and great service.

Good, solid, above-average diner food. Although I think the menu could be expanded a little bit, it has enough variety to make you want to come back on a regular basis. Unlike a lot of diners, they also serve beer to go along with your meal. It has that pseudo-'50s retro look complete with a repro jukebox that is filled with CDs and not records, but as a vinyl junkie I'm willing to overlook that as the food is pretty good overall.

Had great food & service first time here we moved from New Orleans this place reminds me of our diner Camellia Grill What a fun lively place Will go back

The atmosphere is amazing! It is set up like a cute 50's diner with even the oldies music playing. There is a wide selection of food to choose from. Our table got the burger and the heart healthy grilled chicken with sweet potato fries. The grilled chicken was seasoned excellently and the sweet potato fries were addicting! The burger was delicious and well cooked. The brown rice pilaf was so good! Service was great. Prices were reasonable. Definitely a great place for a great meal!

When we walked in the sign said seat yourself so we did. The server took a while to get around to us, but I don't think anyone saw us walk in. She gave mediocre service. The old diner ambiance is nice though. We started with a bowl of shrimp and okra gumbo and potato salad. The gumbo was decent for a restaurant. The potato salad had too much relish for my taste, and no eggs. I got the blue plate lunch special: roast beef and gravy over rice, collard greens, and navy beans. The roast beef was so tender that it fell to piece with a fork. It was also seasoned perfectly. The greens were cooked well but over salted. My husband had a burger. It was average. I'm giving it the 4th star for the roast beef.

Just finished an amazing breakfast! Food came out fast and hot. Cajun omelet and sweet potato pancakes with pecans, bananas and local syrup were to die for! The "hash browns" were more like lightly fried potatoes chunks with cajun spices. Very very very good. Overall a spectacular breakfast for $20. Highly recommend.

Stopped in for breakfast with a really large group with quite a few kids during Christmas rush. Service was outstanding with people being very accommodating and understanding. Food was great, but the great service is really what is prompting me to write the review.

A solid average 2.5. Not a horrible experience but nothing to write home (or anywhere else) about. We decided to try this place out after a Sat morning trip to the farmers market across the street. They were busy but getting a table was not a problem. The waitress was average. The place had average diner atmosphere. The food was average. Their biscuits were supposed to be the must get. Meh... You can do better at Mel's Diner in my opinion.

This was my first time visiting this diner. I thought it was really well priced. I had the meatloaf with potatoes and gravy and red beans and rice. The potatoes tasted a little prepackaged but the red beans and rice were delicious. I also had the fried pickles which were delicious and the Atomic qs which were OK.

Built in 1990 but with a 1950's feel this is a great little dinner in the oil center. Burgers are juicy and they have great Curley fires. The food isn't "spectacular" but it is consistently good ... And a big step above most other "diners". Along the lines of what you could make for yourself at home with a little effort.

Hub City Diner offers decent food with very cool 50's diner atmosphere. On a recent trip to Lafayette I decided to stop here for lunch. Upon entering it was if I had been transported back to the 1950's. The whole restaurant had the old feel with a jukebox prominently displayed by the front door and retro styled booths. I decided to keep it simple and ordered a cheeseburger with atomic fries. According to the menu the atomic fries were the standard curly fries topped with cheese, chili and jalapenos. What I didn't know was that the cheese was liquid nacho style cheese. The fries would have been significantly better had they used actual shredded cheese. The burger was good, but not great. Since I wasn't asked how I wanted it cooked, I assume all burgers are cooked medium well. Maybe it is my fault for not asking, but to me it seemed overcooked. I realize some places do this for food safety reasons, but I do not like burgers cooked that well. Our server was friendly, but a little slow. i really liked the atmosphere of this restaurant,. but unfortunately, the food didn't match the decor.

This place is fantastic! I've been going here since I was a kid & from the old fashioned Cadillac convertible kids meal holder, to their chicken fried steak with white gravy this place has it all. They also offer an 'ear Lafayette' selection for 8.99 which comes with soup of the day, spinach florentine stuffed meat loaf, two sides, AND bread pudding. Try their fried jãlepaneos (my favorite) or their fried pickles. They also have delicious milk shakes and a really good banana split. They're milkshakes are also super. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu! They even serve breakfast! Chicken fried steak & eggs is the best!

I remember when Hub City opened and how exciting it was. The food that came out in the little paper Caddies! The juke box! It was a very welcome addition to the Oil Center. Over 20 years later I'm glad to say it is still alive and kicking. It's a greasy spoon but it's my favorite greasy spoon. Great for breakfast and has a steady clientele of regulars at lunch.

Visited this restaurant last Sunday with my family, it took a while to be seated. My husband asked for breakfast, but we were to that it was over. Ordered, and it wasn't until about 10-15 minutes later that the waitress came over and told my husband that they were out of the beef special and had substituted it with pork chops. I ordered a fried mushroom appetizer also. I ordered the hamburger steak. Food comes out about 20-25 minutes later and the pork chop is tough and unappetizing. He ate it without complaint. Mine was decent. Finished our entire meal and still no appetizer. Flagged down the waitress to cancel and she said that it was on its way out. Food gets brought out to the table next to us, which was seated long after we were, and its breakfast! WTH! All in all, food isn't terrible, but it's not the absolute best either. Bland, definitely lacking in seasoning. Service on busy days is not great, but usually very nice employees. I would go back, everyone has bad days.

They have a very good breakfast menu. Their pancakes are like manhole covers. Home style burgers are above average, and the chili cheese hotdogs are excellent. If you are not sure what to get, their blue plate special is the way to go.

The fried jalapeños are TO DIE FOR. Seriously, you don't even have to like jalapeños-they are that good! The only thing I wish they did was a half and half deal with the fried pickles and fried jalapeños, because honestly they are both D-lish!

Great diner food with a cajun spin. I love a lot of menu items, but my absolute favorite is the grilled cheese & soup. They have a soup of the day, but the real winner is pairing it with their gumbo. And don't forget to save room for a shake!

Very good, inexpensive, diner-style breakfast. I had biscuits and gravy, my wife had just their basic breakfast and my 2-year-old had beignets. (Parenting!) Everything was deliciously buttery, and it's a great place for families to eat at. Highly recommended.

No one has reviewed the breakfast, which seems odd for a diner. Needed a quick breakfast on the way out of town. Good, big breakfast. Great biscuits, good grits and decent coffee. Pancakes were a bit heavy (the regular ones - they also had whole wheat). Filled with locals on a Friday morning.

Visited on 4/11/13 for breakfast. Mediocre food and we found a metal spring inside one of our omelets. Turns out it was part of an aerosol spray bottle of "butter" that they use on the grill. Pretty inexcusable. Manager took that omelet off the bill but did not offer to comp the meal. We definitely won't be back.

The food at this diner was good. I had the soup and grilled cheese with the soup of the day, tomato bisque. I love tomato bisque soup, but this had huge pieces of canned tomatoes as well as huge, limp strands of basil. If I fished my way around those, the soup had good flavor, but it also meant I only got 4 or 5 bites of soup. I will definitely give it another try, though.

Visited on 11/17/11. 1st thing I noticed is how dirty the dining room floor was. The Chix and sausage gumbo, turkey burger were just blah.

Fun diner with good food. We were traveling from New Orleans to Houston and stopped in for a late lunch. We ordered the tuna avocado salad and the grilled catfish with sweet potato fries. Service was prompt and the food was fresh, the catfish perfectly cooked and not dried out.

Hub City Diner has been a place where I would either grab an early breakfast before school or a late evening dinner before a movie my entire life. It's exactly what the name states. A diner. Everything is decorated as a throwback to the fifties, and you will definitely see the older and younger lafayette crowd here mingling with each other. This is usually my go-to place if I want a diner style breakfast or just a really good chocolate shake. There are booths, tables, and even a back area for larger parties. If you are in Lafayette and looking for solid diner fare, then this is your place.

Not being an in-towner, I only get to visit Hub City when I am in town with the in-laws. It has now been over 12 months since the last time I ate at Hub City, and I can still taste the red beans and rice, and the lovely, lovely sausage.... I am getting a bit of a tear in my eye knowing that I won't get to visit again for at least a month! Thus far, I haven't had a better red beans and rice in New Orleans or Lafayette, and that's fine by me! Highly recommended!

I probably would have given this place four stars had I not fallen for the blue plate special. The blue plate special consisted of Catfish and a cup of gumbo. It's always disappointing to find weak gumbo in Louisiana, in fact, it should be a crime. The Catfish was o.k. but I wasn't loving it. Luckily I sampled some of the more diner-like food off my brother's plate. He had the Big Kahuna burger and yes it is big! It was also very tasty. The Atomic Qs as an appetizer were awesome. They are pretty much curly fries with chili and cheese--add jalepenos = Yummy! The place itself was very nice with it's Elvis decor. The service was extremely friendly. I would go back, but stick to the diner-type food menu.

its basically a waffle house that has way hotter staff and is clean. Nothing special just a throwback to the ole diner days

I was visiting Lafayette for business, and I needed dinner worse than President Bush needs to learn how to read. As the name directly states, this place is a classic diner in the 1950s tradition, which is fun. The food here was excellent and reasonably priced. They serve lots of southern and creole favorites like greens, etouffee, and red beans and rice, so I had to sample as much as possible. I ended up ordering the Texas-sized chicken-fried steak for my entree, having a few beers, and enjoying a fine meal at a very reasonable price. If you're in the mood for comfort food, this place will not disappoint you.

We _loved_ Hub City Diner when we lived in Lafayette. Crazily yummy food and great prices! Oh, and cool atmosphere. We now live a couple of hours north and have been looking for a good excuse to visit Lafayette so we can stop in at Hub City Diner. We may have to give up the search for an excuse and just drive down to eat!

Good food for a diner, but it isn't open late. I love the catfish salad and sweet potato fries. Veggie burgers are ok but not great, though no one has great veggie burgers in Lafayette. Fun casual place to go.
