My fiancé and I stopped by the Filling Station last night on a whim and left feeling disappointed and a little swindled. The service was okay; our waitress was polite enough, and attentive. And the decor is definitely unique. However the food was merely mediocre. We ordered chips and guacamole to start. The chips were from a bag and were okay, if a little too salty. The guacamole tasted like it had been made fresh...that morning. It was brown on the top, and lacking flavor, but otherwise fine. My fiancé ordered the Steven's platter. The steak was well-cooked and seasoned, but was served (oddly) with breakfast potatoes and a "salad" that resembled pico de gallo salsa. Overall, okay, but disjointed and at $24, way overpriced for the amount and quality. I got the sirloin salad, and wish I hadn't. While the steak, again, was handled really well, the salad part was actually kind of disgusting and hard to eat. It was drenched in dressing, and the bagged romaine lettuce and canned artichoke hearts had a weird, acrid flavor. Basically, I got a small amount of decent steak on top of a hospital cafeteria salad. For $21. Really, what would have been a 3-star review was knocked down to 2-stars because of the price. Nobody should have to pay that much for low quality food!

Great little place in downtown Lafayette. Decent selection of bottled beer. Menu selection was varied, but no Cajun food - full page of salad offerings. Had Colorado Chili - full of beef beef tips for lunch-fantastic. Free parking. Go.

This place is a poor man's clone of La Fonda's, considering the owner was a waiter at La Fonda's. To sum it up, the food is so-so. But normal people go to this restaurant, unlike the elitists that frequent La Fonda's. I will say this. The decor is unique since the building used to be an actual filling station.

great place for drinks and apps espcially after leaving downtown live. Love when they have a band and open up the doors to the patio. This place has such a great atmosphere. the chili is great and 9 times out 10 you are going to order something that comes with the chili smothered all over the top of whatever.

I've eaten here just a handful of times. Went inside today for the first time, and the atmosphere is very cool. Had the Poco Loco (similar to a chimichanga I think) which is DELICIOUS! Cool spot downtown. I'd definitely recommend it!

Not a very good place to go. The salads are borderline disgusting, the taco salad is OK, and the burritos are decent. If you want a good Mexican restaurant, go to Coyote Blues or somewhere else, but do not come here!

We found this place by way of some locals. It was GREAT! Located in an old gas station The Filling Station has great margaritas and food. We go the Colorado enchiladas...yum! Both red and green sauces compliment the food really well, and they are even better if you mix them. Also this place has a great atmosphere!

Love the atmosphere. A great place to grab a bite for lunch or hang out with friends for dinner. Great food for the price and if you've got kids, they'll love the outdoor seating.

Loved this place! The Filling Station is just that -- an old filling station converted to a restaurant. The chef / owner has another spot in town (higher end, but can't remember the name) and has brought over many similar items. The Filling Station is located down town and is convenient for lunch, happy hour, and dinner on the way home. The margaritas here are outstanding. Don't waste your $ on the top-shelf ones. Our waitress conducted a taste test with us and the ones we liked best were the standard ones. The Filling Station has a good variety of Texas - Mex style dishes, along with burgers, salads, and seafood items. The burgers are outstanding. The enchiladas were good too.

My first Yelp review. After basing my eating and drinking adventures on Yelp reviews, I was finally inspired to write my own. The Filling Station in Lafayette is the first place I almost walked out of. I was in Lafayette staying downtown on business. I had not been in downtown Lafayette in ages. After walking around downtown for 45 minutes looking for food, I could not find any place that looked like a good place to sit alone, eat and drink. Finally, I came upon the Filling Station in all of it's neon glory. I sat at the small bar. I was one of the only person not in their 40's at the bar. They made a large scene of carding the 29 year old "child" that walked in. It didn't bother me. The owner being loud and obnoxious annoyed me. The owner constantly busting my chops with his friends, saying things like "these topics shouldn't be talked about in front of the k-i-d" started to upset me. Being tired and hungry and in Lafayette may have left me irritable. Regardless, for an owner of a business to act like this was very unprofessional. I will give him the benefit of the doubt, he did give me a "mistake beer," when he saw how mad I was getting. The margaritas were good and strong. The food was mediocre Tex-Mex. If you are under 45 enter at your own risk, or risk being insulted during dinner. Next trip to Lafayette, I will take my per diem elsewhere.

The Filling Station is a cute small-town dive and it's fun to sit under the neon lights at night. We only had drinks at the bar, which is limited to margaritas and well drinks - no beers on tap. The real problem for me, though, was it lacked the small-town charm that I'd expected. Despite the home-y gas station exterior, the bartenders just seemed as though they were sick of their jobs. For a more friendly experience, I'd rather walk down the street to the Blue Moon Saloon.

The tortilla soup is outstanding. The staff is very friendly. The owner is a good guy...Bentley, talk to him when you're there. It is an interesting place. A converted gas station and now a restaurant.

The service and price do not match up. I asked for queso on my burger and was charged 3.50 for a spoonfull of cheese. We waited over an hour to order our meal. The food was just ok. Don't come here... youll pay too much for bad service and mediocre food

I went there for lunch once and was underwhelmed. Someone suggested that I try the steak, so I did. Goodness gracious! One of the best steaks in Lafayette! It was seasoned and cooked perfectly. My husband and I go there every year for our anniversary to get steaks. The potatoes are delicious as well, and if they are ever serving lobster bisque - Get it! You won't be disappointed!!

The Filling Station has so much potential as a bar & grille, especially since it's in a great location. It's a really cool old gas station that's been renovated into a terrible layout for a kitchen & bar. The owner should call John from Bar Rescue!!! What is up with the "under the sea" theme in an old gas station? You seriously need a makeover!!! The bartender was friendly enough. We didn't try any food but ordered drinks & sat on the patio because there was NO bar really. :-( This place would be a great live music venue! The patio was great & I could see how it would be fun at night with some music.

This place is a shit hole. Don't believe me? Order the "queso". Go to the outside bathroom. This place looks like its simply never been cleaned. The draw to this place is the La Fonda margarita offered here. The owner of Filling Station used to work at La Fonda mexican restaurant which is famous for its margarita. The clientele found at the filling station also frequent la Fonda. This place is a dump, and needs to be inspected by the health department.

The Filling Station is a neat place to eat. The food was good, not great. I had the pork burrito which was different than the Mexican food I'm used to having. But, it was quite tasty. My wife had the grilled chicken salad. The chicken was great, but the rest of the salad was just good. Our daughters had a hamburger and a bean and cheese burrito. The tortillas are not homemade. I guess growing up in San Antonio I've gotten spoiled with really good tortillas on every corner (almost literally). This place reminds me of somewhere you would hang out with friends in college. It has a great atmosphere, but the food is what you would expect if you were on a college budget. Unfortunately, it's priced slightly higher than the quality of the food. We still liked it.

Have you ever eaten at a place where the attitude of the server was so bad that it ruined your entire dining experience? This is that place. From the moment i walked in, until the moment we left, we had the most unpleasant, curt, rude, abrupt and uncaring service I can ever remember. If the owner is reading this, you need to fire the bartender who worked today. She really needs to find another vocation. In addition to the above, the first hotdog I had was superb. The second one was served with a huge mound of cold chili on top --- gross. And the burger that we ordered medium rare came out well-done. And its not like the chef was busy. There were only 2 other tables in the place. Massive fail.
