This was our first time here & will not be the last!! Wow walked in wanting chicken fried steak mashed potatoes & gravy & saw menu changed. But, Paige turned my frown upside down by suggesting Steak, biscuits & then the chef made mashed potatoes!!! My husband had the BLT with an egg atop & potato hash The steak was amazing the biscuits even better than my homemade biscuits & my husband loved the bread & bacon on his BLT Paige was awesome She told us the history about Dark Roux The owner asked how our meal was!! We are going back for their new hours Monday - Friday plate lunches 11-2 Thanks god great start to our day We moved here from New Orleans & the good food has not disappointed us!!!!

Had lunch. Very limited menus and changes regularly. Creative food done well. Not for everyone. Lunch prices $11-14 for entrees. If you want something different try it

Freshest food I have had in so long, Dark Roux is taking farm to table to the next level with a great menu full of amazing items. I plan on bringing my entire family back here so they can taste greatness. The super friendly staff takes delight in the presentation of every plate and you it really shows. There is something about eating at a place where the employees take pride in every drink, every dish that just makes the restaurant shine. The portion size of the food was perfect, the drinks were AMAZING and the price was right. What more could you ask for? Stop looking at reviews and go eat.. at Dark Roux because you will love it

Oregonian very impressed with Dark Roux! I stopped especially for their beignets. However, I did not know they only serve beignets during brunch. Thankfully my awesome waitress convinced the chef to make me an order. I am not a beignet expert but I can tell you the beignets Dark Roux makes are lighter, fluffier pillows made with more flavor than Cafe Du Monde! And I didn't have to wait in line for 2 hours in the sweltering heat :) we also tried one of their expertly craft cocktails made with Aviation vodka, lavender essences and Luxardo, bravo it was excellent.

Food was very good but overpriced,ie. 3 BBQ shrimp and a small fried corn grit cake for $12.00, sauce was bland, I was expecting a bit of kick, not much flavor,1 medium sized grilled porkchop with thick layer of fat, would have been really nice had the fat been crisp, beans and pan tossed okra for $38.00. The dishes were simple but well executed, Flavors were not bold, more subtle a la' Yankee fare. Wake up your inner coonass guys. Service was excellent. You be the judge.

Went with wife for lunch. Longer wait than normal for seating, order, food and check. Place is small and seats are hard, very uncomfortable. Had lunch specials, nothing special. Pricey for small portions and my crawfish etoufee was almost cold. Not impressed for what I paid.

All I can say is wow! We started with an Old Fashion, which was tasty and strong, followed by some awesome beignets. BTW, I have no idea why people complain about the portion size. We got 5 sizeable beignets - perfect for an appetizer. For lunch, we shared the 72 Hour Beef Short Rib Hash and the Croque-a-Cochon. Both were cooked perfectly, well presented and above all very tasty. Just to get the full gamut, we got a side of bacon, which was some of the best bacon I've ever had. Service was spot on with the water never going dry. If there was a sixth star, I would give it to Ryan and Dark Roux!

As a native of Acadiana and a former resident of New Orleans I've come to compare the foods of the two places. My usual paradigm is that one can't beat the home cooked food from Acadiana and the restaurants are leaps and bounds better in New Orleans.... Well, I stand corrected about restaurants. I ordered the pork chop with greens and sweet potatoes. All three knocked my socks off. It is hard for me to even compare food to Matt and Naddie's in Nola, but this was as close as it gets. The glaze on the pork chop was just right and the greens were out of this world. I was concerned when the waitress told me that the sweet potatoes were being modified from what was originally on the menu but when I tried them my concern was assuaged. In short, eat here if you are looking for the rich flavor of Acadiana fused with the culinary execution found in the quirky eateries that make New Orleans the epicenter of southern dining. Ryan T and associates have nailed it right here in Lafayette. The price is very reasonable, and I would venture to say inexpensive when compared to the same experience one would find in Nola. We are going again Friday.

I had the plate lunch chicken wings as the Server recommend. The flavor was great but the portion. Was a bit small on the Chicken wings. 3 piece or 1.5 wings. The rice & gravy, mac & cheese were spot on. The BBQ white beans needed more time in the pot, I found them too firm. I was a solo and had the restaurant to myself. The music was perfect for lunch and the staff was busy and friendly preparing for dinner..

Very delicious food! Hubby had the ribs and I had the ribeye. We also had cookies and milk for dessert. We are stuffed full! Only slight issue was that we walked in without reservations. We only had to wait a few minutes, but it seemed like we got lucky there was a no show. Next time, we will definitely set reservations ahead of time. Overall, great meal and experience!

This is my favorite restaurant in lafayette. The music and the menu have me coming back as often as I can. I've never been disappointed with anything that I've ordered. The crawfish corndogs are amazing. This restaurant is truly great.

Service was fabulous. Quite pricey, we brought our kids. My husband didn't quite understand the sustainable/local menu as well as the kambucha tea. I would go back with a girlfriend, my hubby didn't appreciate it.

Best gumbo I never made! Seriously, I'm as Cajun as one can be and I'm a gumbo snob. I rarely encounter a gumbo from a restaurant that I would compare to my home made. This gumbo was as close as it gets (maybe even a tiny bit better than my own since I didn't have to cook it). HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - best restaurant gumbo I've ever had!

Dark Roux has cemented itself as one of the top eateries in Lafayette. Consistently producing high quality, creative, and delicious food. Time after time I have been impressed with the innovative twists on local dishes. This is a hard working kitchen, and the time and care taken in preparing the locally sourced ingredients is evident in the taste of the product that makes it to your table. Dishes such as the 72hr Short Rib show off their mastery of classic cuisine; a pancetta that has been treated to perfection bringing out sweet corn flavors that go perfectly with the truffle oil, hand made pasta and melt in your mouth short rib. This clearly demonstrates that their departures from tradition are calculated, producing an unforgettable modern take on the local and traditional. The atmosphere and service are top notch yet casual. If you can only eat at one or two restaurants during your stay in Lafayette, Dark Roux would be at the top of a very short list. Hands down my favorite restaurant in Lafayette.

Such a great restaurant. The freshness and flavor make every mouthful worth savoring. You find yourself eating much slower and you linger just a little longer after each taste.

Love the farm-to-table cuisine at Dark Roux!Nearly everything on the menu comes from The Gotreaux Family farm in Scott. It's all fresh and all delicious! The small plates are REALLY small - think of it as an appetizer, then think smaller than that, there you go! That's their "small plate". I ordered the shrimp and grits, which were tasty, but left me wanting much more because the plate was minuscule! I wish they had more options on the entrée menu that weren't SO out there. They need a good ole burger on the menu for the guests who aren't interested in pork belly or bone marrow, ya know? I am a fairly adventurous foodie, but some of our dinner guests weren't feeling it. The price seems pretty fair, although they did charge our table $3 for four tiny pieces of bread to accompany the gumbo - this seemed a bit outrageous. It's south Louisiana, gumbo should come with bread! The service was stellar - 5 stars there! I'm excited to see where this place goes from here! If you live in Lafayette or the surrounding area and are looking for something different, definitely give Dark Roux a shot!

I came to Dark Roux on Mother's Day and the wait was about 45 minutes not bad at all. My Mom and I both had the short ribs. It was absolutely divine. Great flavor and had a little kick. My brother had the boudin benny which he gave me half. It was great and had a stronger spice to it. My Dad got the crawfish bisque. He couldn't stop sopping the sauce up with bread. Prices weren't bad either. Will be back.

The chef here is very professional! We encountered a small issue during our meal and the head chef personally contacted me to fix the problem. I recommend to others to visit.

We had 3 people in our party and everything that we ordered was completely disgusting. The prices are also outrageous. I've never had to pay, or have even witnessed, a Sausage biscuit that was $12.00 and then not even like the taste of it. I will never return to this restaurant. Not worth the money. There are too many other options for good food.

Great food, the portions are little plates so if you expect to fill up like your at the golden corral you may want to go to the golden corral. The roasted tomato bisque with cheesy bread rocked and the boudin balls were excellent.

Fantastic Brunch spot. On Sundays they feature live music and the wait is usually 15minutes for a table. Chicken and biscuits was sweet due to the honey glaze and savory from the egg yolk. The beignets were pretty good, I don't normally get them. The coffee was dark and rich, definitely high quality. This place just changed over and hasn't lost a step.

I love the idea of farm to table local thing but was very disappointed with the food. Went for my birthday and thank goodness for the live music which made the atmosphere nice. But the food is a big miss between three entrees, appetizer and an added side, One thing was good the rest just meh mediocre. And they didnt anything special like a free dessert which is not required but would have been nice. Given it was probably the Sunday brunch menu maybe the dinner menu would be better. Had the fried rice which to me should be a side to a dish not the entree was just ok. The white beans side added was undercooked and hard. The chicken biscuit entree had no flavor in the chicken or the biscuit and the gumbo starter I would say was typical tasting not bad though. The only good thing was the 72 hr short rib with hash which was both very tasty and what I was hoping all their food would be like. Almost forgot the beignets are very good too. Almost didn't order because of how unimpressed I was with everything else. I will probably give another shot cause I really want the place to succeed.

This is a restaurant that uses buzz words like "farm-to-table" but fails to comprehend anything beyond the phrase. From start to finish the service was severely lacking for the price point that this restaurant demanded. The server was not knowledgeable on the dishes nor was my table checked in a timely manner. Most importantly, the food did not meet my expectations. My table ordered four small plates. Each tasteless facades. I mean by this that my food was beautifully presented but that was as far as it went. Many dishes lacked flavor and some even showed blantant disrespect for technique. The harshest example of this was our final plate that had undercooked peas on it. Although the food and service were cringe-worthy, nothing could compare to the disappointment of knowing that the beautiful food that Dark Roux totes across its Facebook page was not even romotely a representation of the food that is served in its establishment. This restaurant is the embodiment of what a restaurant should NOT be: a series of trendy jargon with a staff too young to translate it into good food.
