3 stars = A-OK. They are a great place to go for lunch, and have excellent staff. I don't really have any complaints about their staff or their atmosphere. The outdoor seating is great, and the indoor seating is okay as well, but it's can get a bit loud indoors. Their food is just average for Mexican food. It's nothing to rave about. Go to Agave for the good atmosphere, drinks, and staff.

Sorry but these are the worst shrimp fajitas EVER! Shrimp is old. We had to send ceviche back because the shrimp was overly fishy which isn't a good sign of its freshness. Waitress was sweet but that alone won't bring me back. What's wrong people?

i'm honestly surpised by the other reviews. I went for lunch and found the food very flavorful. The service was prompt and the margaritas delicious. The palette is traditional so no it's not going to have crazy peppers, tabasco, and all of the other bizarre things I've seen people try to put in mexican food around here. I think it needs to be stressed that it is traditional mexican and is flavored as such. They do have some inventive combinations though. Definitely worth a lunch time trip

Wait staff is all scatterbrained. Bathrooms weren't clean at all. Fish tacos had more pickled jalapeños than fish, refresh beans were scorched burnt, husband's flank steak was great and the tres lychee deasert was great.

Was not impressed at all. First of all there menu stated that the have happy hour from 3-5. They didn't specify days. We came in on a Friday at 3:30 and our waitress stated that they don't do happy hour on Fridays. We tried to tell them that since it wasn't specified on the menu that they should hornor it, but they didn't. But now to the food. This is in the top 5 worst Mexican food places I have experienced. Everything tastes generic and like it came out of a freezer bag. The salsa was bland. The queso dip (tasty) but hardened up too fast. I got chicken enchiladas with cheese sauce, one friend got shrimp and chicken Quesadillas, and my third friend got fish tacos. None of us were happy about the food and we were all starving! The tortillas were tough, the chicken tasted like Tyson precooked fajita chicken you can buy from Wal Mart. I don't know why this place is still in business but they will have to step their game up on the food. They're are obviously no Mexicans in the kitchen making the food which I would say I'd a must at a Mexican Restaurant.

This place is as gross as their sister restaurant downtown. Overpriced crappy food, margaritas with little or no tequila in them, and an atmosphere that is little changed from the crappy place that was in this sport before them. The sooner that Both Agave's go out of business, the better it will be for all of Lafayette, and the unsuspecting customers who go there every night and receive a crappy ripoff meal in a disgusting environment. /major fail.

Great food! I had the seafood enchiladas with crab meat... AMAZING! Server was quick and friendly. Be sure to try sitting on the back patio.

Got suckered in by the $1.50 Margaritas on Mondays sign out front so thought we'd give it a try. I wasn't expecting much as the decor suggested your average American-ized Mexican/Tex-Mex chain, and unfortunately that's pretty much what it turned out to be like. We got off to a poor start ordering the drink special when the waiter tried his best to get us to upgrade to the 'discounted' premium drinks instead. We politely refused and stuck with the special. I didn't know the Dixie company made margarita glasses until these tiny drinks arrived, which were almost embarrassing to drink. After finishing them in two sips the waiter came over and suggested a double for $3, which worked out a little better, but they were still on the small side. I guess we failed to read the fine print on the sign outside. Onto the food. Prices here are at least double of what you would normally pay for Mexican fare, and to add insult to injury, portion sizes are about half of what you'd expect. The menu is somewhat limited and very basic. There are no a la carte choices here, just entrees in the $12-18 range, which is a bit much for small plates of tacos, burritos, enchiladas, etc. While not horrible, the food is very average, not good, not bad, just there. I should have known, if the actual food brought people in, there would be no need to trick people with cheap margarita gimmicks.

Food was so good! It's more of an Americanized Mexican restaurant but the seafood burrito was amazing! Margaritas are pretty good also! They have about 5 beers on tap and pretty good bottle selection! The only thing is that we had a table of 5 and they added the gratuity to the table which was questionable.

Their food can be summed up in one word: "bland." The chips and tortillas tasted store-bought. The salsa had zero kick to it whatsoever. I ordered the combination fajitas, which included steak, shrimp, and chicken. While not necessarily "bad," everything was just mediocre. The steak and chicken didn't taste as if they used any seasoning. The shrimp were small and nearly tasteless. Definitely not worth $19.95. The service was very fast and friendly, although I was there at 5:30 when it was nearly empty. I will not be back.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
