Good food...reasonable prices. Wish the shrimp were a little larger, but overall a nice visit. Casual place with good service

What a disappointment. My wife ordered a combination platter, shrimp and stuffed crab. It was 7 shrimp and a scoop of something in a foil crab, on a plate full of french fries. I ordered steak and a baked potato. The meal comes with mashed potatoes. I figured I was getting the baked instead. The steak wss suppose to be medium rare, it was medium well. The baked potato was fresh out of the microwave, it was hard. I was charged for the potato. Don't waste your time or money.

Great service and good quality flavorful food. Fried Alligator - done well and seasoned to perfection. Chicken Gumbo - one of the best in the area. Fried Fish - done with a fine coating - I prefer corn meal but it was still good. Fried Oysters - perfect Boiled potatoes - season well Again ... super service.

Tourist Trap. All the way. As soon as we got off the plane, we were already craving in getting some southern comfort food. The reviewed looked overall swell, but the food failed and left much to be inspired and desired. Most of the meal was band and needed the aid of some sort of hot sauce. Clearly this for people without taste or haven't had real southern food.

Good service but the decor leaves much to be desired. The top hits of the 80s playing too loudly in the background really killed my apatite. Great place for a quick bite but I wouldn't bring a date here. I did not try the all you can eat crab on Tuesday but that the only thing I would come back for.

Okay, so it's a very comfortable, family friendly seafood restaurant. Dress comfortably, and wear garments that will stretch with your belly cuz you're gonna eat too much! The spinach dip with both home made potato chips and cat fish strips is WONDERFUL. I ordered Alaskan crab legs, which came with sausage, lots of butter and a huge amount of legs. Have I already said WONDERFUL?! Whatever you do, ask fro Becky. She is (dare I say it again) WONDERFUL! She knows everything there is to know, and does it all when needed (bartend, wait tables and cook). Enjoy and just know you'll be miserable afterwards from overeating! :-)

Our waitress, Mimi, was very curt and rude. The entree salad was made with very old greens, probably from a bag. The panne chicken on top was okay, but the salad was otherwise inedible. The shrimp poboy was good, but the fries that came with it were soggy and inedible. The hush puppies were average. We were never asked how everything was, but it was apparent from all the food left on our plates that it wasn't good. Please don't waste time or money at this place.

I'm not a huge seafood fan. Crawfish, shrimp, and other "bug-like" sea creatures creep me out. I don't like the fishiness of most fish. However, I'm quite fond of thin fried Catfish if done correctly. Johnny Trauth? They're doing it right. The fish, anyway. I had never even heard of this place until a co-worker suggested we go there for lunch. It's behind a gas station on Williams. Even though I had probably passed this place a million times, I never realized it was there. Anywho, we were greeted and given a table within a minute or two of entering the building. Of course, it was almost 2pm, so definitely after the lunch rush was gone. The server was quick to take our order. We got a couple of the lunch specials (priced around $8 for a generous portion of food). I had the Catfish, of course, which comes with a bowl of mixed veggies, fries, hushpuppies, and coleslaw. I really, really don't like coleslaw (are you noticing that I'm a little picky??), so I wish I had read the menu a bit closer to see if I could substitute it. The veggies were obviously frozen and the fries were nothing to get excited over. The hushpuppies and catfish were fresh and delicious. They had a sign saying that they have an all-you-can eat night, so I may bring the family out for that and see what their dinner service is like. Lunch was definitely good, quick, and affordable.

Not so good, dawg. There on a Friday night, fairly late dinner, with family of seven. It would eventually take more than two hours to complete this meal. First of all, the menu is a bit limited, and upon recollection I think everything is fried. So calling this a seafood restaurant is a stretch. To say that it is representative of any corner of regional cuisine would be a crime. But hey, I was in the mood for some catfish anyway so we'll get through this meal one way or another. We had alligator balls as well, which was an appetizer but ended up being served after our side dishes came out. This was very strange to me, and although after close to an hour I was grateful to have something, anything, that even a cup of hush puppies and a plate (?) of cole slaw was appreciated, I began to fear that all that would be left to be served was a lone pile of catfish. Sure enough, the catfish was delivered on a plate by itself, while I waited for even the french fries to come out. It was basically a four-course meal. The food itself was bland, and nothing that could not be obtained in any standard hospital cafeteria. The alligator balls were actually bad: tasteless, rubbery, and served with a strange gelatinous condiment that better not be presented as remoulade. Maybe it was an off night. But with a restaurant that didn't look terribly busy, and a predictable menu of food that should be easy to make in bulk, it was hard not to feel taken advantage of as a table with a "gratuity included," especially as three tickets turned over at the table next to us during our meal. With so much great food to be eaten in a city like this, I would actively recommend against this restaurant. There are just too many better options.

Went there for the wife's birthday. Got a free meal. She got the combo-platter 4 big fried catfish fillets and a big stuffed crab with coleslaw & french fries. I got the half a fried chicken, fries, & cole slaw. The crab was good, the catfish was exellent. We split an appitizer the Italian breaded oysters that sucked...too wet, all the breading got mushy and wasn't too tasty. The fried chicken was just a little less than perfect...best that I have had other than my mom's. The fried chicken was about twice as good as Popeye's and about 1/4 th as greasy as Popeye's. Exellent chicken. Excellent catfish. Good stuffed crab. Mediocre coleslaw. Good french fries. Not so good Italian oyster appetizer. Free birthday meal ! Also excellent waiter. Waiter said that he would tell cook & mgt. about appetitizer that wasn't to our liking.

Mediocre Sysco-type fried seafood with mediocre service in a below-average restaurant. The gumbo was runny and nearly tasteless, and everything from the shrimp to the hushpuppies to the fish was obviously frozen delivery truck fare. It was all bland and barely worth grading as a step up from something like Long John Silvers. The interior was dated... as in not remodeled since 1995, with furniture from 1985. Our server was young and inexperienced and not getting any help from the other staff. Despite not being busy (about 1/3 of the tables were full) and having a more than adequate number of servers on the floor, it took 15 minutes to get a refill on our drinks and we waited 20 minutes after we were clearly finished (having stacked our plates and left them at the side of the table) to get a check delivered so we could get out of there. It seemed like the kind of place that intends to catch tourists coming to the New Orleans area hoping to find some gumbo and seafood. But, it's a tourist trap. Really worth avoiding unless you have a hankering for cheap seafood and a trip down memory lane to 1995.

All you can eat fried catfish and chicken filet on special Wednesday and Sunday. Well worth it and the service is super good. The girls will take care of you with a cool smile. They always have beer on draft which for me is a must. Big TV if you want to enjoy a game while you eat. Makes it great.

I can now say that I have been to snow crab heaven. Tuesday is the magical day to have endless amounts of hot salty crabs. I had been craving boiled snow crabs for so long and didnt feel like driving to a casino and Johnny Trauths came to my rescue. Thanks to fellow yelper Ryan C. who led me here. I have been to this sodium show twice and I think I have fulfilled my craving for a while. Service was slacking both times. 3 servers share an entire dining room on the busiest night of the week. The restaurant doesnt have enough crackers to go around. What a tease! So you can only eat what you can crack with your hands. They just need to order more- not the servers fault. I'll be back when the craving kicks in again. The rest of the menu was your run of the mill fried/ grilled seafood.

Every 2nd Wednesday our high school dinner group searches for a casual dining restaurant. This month we picked Trauth's and were thrilled with the choice ! We shared onion mum, the spinach and artichoke dip a catfish plate and 2 seafood platters, all were piping hot and fried to perfection! The service was so good we decided on a 50% tip! We'll be back!

Don't worry about anything else on the menu....Tuesday night is all you can eat snow and dungenes (sp) crab legs... It is slightly pricey, but it IS all you can eat. Way better quality than the Asian buffets. I am local and eat here regularly

I am out of town on business from Atlanta...I just had to turn back the shrimp cocktail because it was not fresh. The waiter took the shrimp back and that was it no new dish no reason why just OK. It was also interesting I was the only person eating in the dinning room. Maybe the locals know better.

This was not a choice I made. We dined here as a group ( I was at a long conference and the company tries to support local businesses). I decided that I would try this out and played the safe bet Red Beans & Rice with Potato Salad & Iced Tea... My decision to play it safe wasn't so safe! This place is a tourist trap and while it may have been very good a few decades ago its absolute abysmal today!!! My beans tasted like blue runners our of the can with about 1/2 a bottle of Louisiana Hot Sauce merged into it. The sausage that came with the beans and rice was clearly DEEP FRIED in a fryer--- I repeat they deep fried a 4" link of Smoked Sausage which came out on my plate looking like a dehydrated, carbon-dioxide torched RAT TURD! I suppose you all have a flat top why not cook my sausage there? Yes we were a pretty big group (16) but you only had 5 other people in the entire place! The potato salad was a total epic fail--- even for KENNER this place sucked! I will try it again as always to see if this was a once in a lifetime mishap... but my stomach and palate have been begging me to not do so. The high point? The tea was perfectly sweet as was our server (the out of towners LOVED the food, but then again they weren't raised here & this was their first time in New Orleans). Trauth's isn't the Truth & a millennium away from being close to a Bistro...

The food is great !!!! However, this is likely some of the worst service from a restaurant EVER. We were seated and about 5 minutes later our order was taken. The waiter, may have been new, worked all around our table but barely even looked to see if drinks were needed (they were). Half of my meal didn't come out and when asked to adjust the bill because of it, $1 was deducted. Needless to say, the waiter's tip showed how irritated I was at the situation. I have given several tries, but I doubt if I go back there again.

Just no. No. No. No. No. First of all, "Bistro" is a bit of a stretch. I get more of a "family picnic" vibe from this place. -- I had the oyster Po' Boy. What I expected was a light, crunchy bread with a hearty helping of fried oysters and a side of remoulade. What I got was a thick roll with enough oysters to cover the interior in a line, a couple lettuce leaves, some sliced tomatoes, and a side of tartar sauce. Straight up tartar sauce. I don't know, if it were me, I'd have shredded that lettuce, found a more ripe tomato, and whipped up a batch of my Johnny Trauth's famous remoulade. 'Twas not to be. I mean, you put tartar sauce on fish you don't like--cod for example.

I was craving crab legs but didn't want to pay touristy prices and be far from my local neighbor. Many restaurants that claim to have seafood do not have crab legs. However, this place does and lots of it. It is located on a side street of Williams Boulevard, and can be easily missed. The restaurant seems always busy but not overly full of people. It is a family restaurant and contains a separate bar area located to the right of the entrance. Large fish mounts, nets, and other nautical theme items decorate the wood paneled walls of the restaurant. The main dining area is a large open area with high ceilings that can get lively at times. They have "All You Care to Eat" dishes of fried catfish, and crabs legs on certain nights. Those are their busy nights but every time I've went, I never waited longer than 10 minutes. Parking was a breeze. They have a wide variety of menu items to suite your taste to include pasta dishes, and ashore plates (chickens and steaks). Every time I go, I order the crab legs. You can get them either steamed or broiled. Both are equally delicious but I prefer broiled. The crab legs were outstanding ever time, and well worth the price. If you can get crab legs anywhere else, you would pay much more. The waitress can get busy but are friendly. They stopped by often and was always quick to refill my drinks. I would have liked to see more friendly expressions and smiles from the hostess. If you want fresh tasty seafood or delicious crab legs without paying too much, I recommend Johnny Trauth's Seafood Bristo.

Menu is ok. Some prices are high but most of it is reasonable. Tuna steak is great. I usually get the gumbo with no rice. It's really good. They are popular for their all you can eat catfish and crab legs. The place is packed on those days. Service is ok and the restaurant is clean. The bar area is medium sized but they have recently upgraded their TVs so if you are going to get a quick bite the bar is not a bad place to sit.
