My Yelp is broken. I can't give this a six star review. Mine must be broken. The trip to the Yellow Bowl was most assuredly the BEST trip I have taken to a true Cajun restaurant in a long time. Believe me, I have had some of the best in the area in my 20+ years as a southern Louisiana resident, but somehow I missed this place. (Insert image of my hitting my forehead with the palm of my hand muttering "Stupid, stupid, stupid.") It is a decent trip from NOLA but the drive is nice, there is little resistance along highway 90 and Avery Island is just down the road so a little trip to the Tabasco factory and a slow roll (in the car because we were fat and happy) after the meal was a worthy side trip. However, the meal itself was worth the travel. The food was just flat out authentic-amazing! I have had many a crawfish etouffee and crawfish bisque in my time, but these were something special. Those dishes were made with love and they were served with care (and a small side of Cajun charm which includes a little spice... :)) Everything we had was just wonderful. We started with cups of bisque and of course, I was simply blown away. Honestly, it was among the best I have had. It is not the creamy bisque that Nola bistro restaurants serve but it had that true cajun flavor. We both ordered combo platters - I had the crawfish combo and my lovely had the grilled seafood combo. I can honestly say that we discussed how impressed we were that they serve (as the default) the combo platter grilled and a fried combo platter is an upcharge. We LOVED that fact. Firstly, you can't hide older or low quality ingredients with grilled food like you can with fried food AND everything was grilled to perfection. My platter was similarly cooked perfectly and the little bit of fried food on it (crawfish tails mainly) we light and lightly battered. We were offered something sweet to finish off with but neither of us had it in us. We were stuffed and took a box home! Sincerely, we felt like this food was worth a nice Sunday drive a few hours away and it will become a Sunday destination in the future! All in all, I would not miss it if you are in the area already and if you think about driving from NOLA, just say Oui and get on the road!

We are here again for the crawfish bisque. Toujours les meilleur ! Mde Hulin's recipes are the originals, passed down for generations. Skip the buffet. Not open Saturday lunch or Sunday dinner (supper). Worth a big detour !

Great Cajun food. This is exactly what we were looking for. Worth the detour for great food. TK, the owner made us feel welcome and made our experience enjoyable.

Excellent Cajun fare and well worth the trip to Jeanerette. They serve the best fried crawfish tails in Acadiana, followed closely by their fried crab claws. My husband always orders the "Half & Half" platter of half étouffée and half fried crawfish tails. The service is mostly very friendly and small town. When they're slammed on Sunday afternoons it's best to just roll with the buffet unless you've got nothing better to do. ;)

This little restaurant serves up Louisianan's best representation of how Cajun / Creole food is meant to be cooked. Dishing out flavors that are as rich as the restaurant's history, this is one spot you should absolutely add to your must try list. In fact, Guy Feiri from Dinners, Drive Ins, & Dives would go nuts in their kitchen with the bisque, etouffee, gumbo, etc, in fact I just sent them an email telling them they should put this on their schedule of places to see. As the story goes, this is the first restaurant to ever fry crawfish and serve them to their guests while trying to keep up with a busy Weekend dinner rush, and the whole world is now thankful they did! The owners are always there, the staff is wonderful, and the ambience of The Yellow Bowl harkens you back to a time when a meal was meant to be savored amongst good friends and family while the fast paced world is left outside the old front door.

After rave reviews on Chowhound, I was anxious to try this little place in the heart of Cajun country. It was described as the first restaurant to ever put crawfish etoufee on a menu - I think the sign said the restaurant was started in 1926. But it is CLOSED on Mondays and Tuesdays, and I'm heartbroken because I don't know when we'll get back to this part of the country.
