Southern food at its best. I had a wide array of items when here: the fried pickles, crawfish étouffée, a shrimp poboy, and grilled shrimp. Everything was perfectly cooked and prepared in the traditional fashion. I waited a bit for the food, but it was well worth every minute. The menu tells you to wait for good food, and I did just that. Highly recommended to anyone who wants an authentic taste of Louisiana!

First of all, forget the street address, you'll never find it that way. It's on Hwy 182, way, way, WAY out of town in the general direction of Morgan City. If you're driving from Houma, the bayou is on your right, and the restaurant is the first building you'll see on the right, between you and the bayou. It doesn't look like much, just a brick shack. But inside is some fine food. Get the crispy but moist fried chicken with some rice dressing (what folks elsewhere call "dirty rice").

The fried seafood platter is d-lish. The seafood gumbo is tasty and full of shrimps/oysters. Not to fond of the bread pudding. It's just ok. Beer is Ice Cold! Great spot to stop @

Went here in a recommendation from a friend from the bayou. What a fun little spot, very basic brightly lit interior. Locals spot for sure. I had the crawfish kickers, seafood Gumbo and 4 piece fried chicken with rice dressing. (Some chicken left in a Togo box) The kickers where good with a nice zing. Only criticism was they were a little salty but still good. Seafood gumbo had shrimp crab and a couple oysters. I think it was one of the better gumbos I've had in LA, but I realize that gumbos are very subjective, so don't get bent if you disagree. The fried chicken was star of the show. Just delicious. I highly recommend it. Everything I ordered came out fresh and hot. The service was good and very friendly. Waitress's will give you the honest opinions on the menu. So if you find yourself in Houma (sorry if you do) then definitely head a little out of town and check this not so little chicken shack out.

Stopped for lunch after a Bayou Tour. The boudin balls were awesome. Fresh not frozen. The po boys were great.

This place has the best fried chicken I've ever had. And I've had a lot of fried chicken. Not an easy place to get to unless you in the area but if you ARE in the area, make the time to eat here. It's basic, it's inexpensive and it's as good as fried chicken gets.

The atmosphere is great! We stopped by on a Friday evening, and watched couples dancing. The fried chicken was good, but my shrimp pasta wasn't cooked evenly. Some of the noodles were tough and stuck together. The experience was great, but I would order something different next time.

If you're in the Houma area you've gotta stop at Bayou Delight for some fried chicken. It's a fairly large local place with a nice outdoor deck on the bayou and unexciting decor on the inside but nice people and clearly a locals hangout. Some of the food such as white beans is just average while some such as the fried catfish is above average but the fried chicken is absolutely some of the best anywhere. And big portions so you definitely won't leave hungry.

In New Orleans on vacation and wanted to get away from the city to see the surrounding areas. Stopped here for lunch because they had outside seating and we had our dog with us which turned out to be a really nice area next to a waterway. The server was great as was the food. We had Boudain balls, crawfish kickers, fried chicken and then hot beignets with powdered sugar for dessert. We were full for sure. Great people, great food and great prices.

This place was a little hard to find and a ways out of Houma but well worth the effort to find it. Some of the best fried chicken I have ever eaten in my life. Excellent po-boys, gator bites, boudain balls, gumbo and bread pudding. Friendly staff, affordable and hard not to leave stuffed. Set on Bayou Black out the back, this is the real deal.

While places like Baton Rouge are infamous for their relative lack of decent eating, the Houma area should be known for their glut of excellent restaurants. Sure, Houma probably has some disappointing places, and, from my experiences, I have eaten at some good places and great places there, but for a city of about 35,000, they know how to eat. Bayou Delight fits that mold. Located along the old Hwy. 90/present day Hwy. 182, it may not get as much traffic since Hwy. 90 was rerouted north of Houma, but it is rather easy to access from the main road when passing between New Orleans and Morgan City and cities to the northwest. It is in a place by itself closer to Gibson, but it is one I like to frequent during my visits to Houma. They have a nice array of dishes and menu items, more than most restaurants of its genre. I wish I had a comprehensive list, but I do not, but, to make a long story short, I have stayed with seafood items and have found them to be, quite literally, out of this world. The alligator is excellent, for example, as well as numerous appetizers. I wish I had a menu on hand to describe some of the items they have. In short, the service might be a little slower than usual and they may have some weird hours, as some other reviews say (I haven't been there enough to notice them closing at times they said they would be open--and I have gone on Mardi Gras, and they were open while other places weren't). It is that good! They may have live bands on Friday and Saturday evenings at times, which could affect seating and other things, but I am not sure of the frequency.

This was my first real taste of Cajun/southern food and it was amazing. The fried alligator was cooked perfectly, I assume, I know it was delicious because my picky son and my seafood allergic fiance (it made him nervous to try it but he ended up just fine) tried and loved it. We then moved on to our 12 piece fried chicken plate...holy crap that was some darn good fried chicken. Mmm...the skin. I don't think I can eat kfc/popeye's ever again. I had to try some kind of crawfish while there so I got the crawfish kickers...meh. I'm half swedish so when we eat crawfish it's done quite different. They were alright, just not my style of crawfish. All in all I would definitely eat there A LOT if I lived in the area and I will be sure to stop there again when I return to the area in August.
