We were on a trip to New Orleans for a few days. After taking a swamp tour we were hungry and we found this little place by looking on yelp. The service was great and the food was really yummy! My daughter and I shared fajitas, her friend ordered an enchilada and my mom got the quickie nachos. Everything was great. We then split a deep-fried ice cream. It was huge and is only $3.25! This place was a great find!

The Mole looked a lot better than it tasted.. Not sweet and absolutely no spice... Not what I was looking for

The food and drinks are always amazing I'm always ready to go eat at this place at anytime! I can't wait to go back! This place is definitely a must for Mexican food!

The guacamole was grey, the salsa was flavorless, the food was gummy and my wife and I ended up with a $41 lunch that neither one us enjoyed. Our server was great: friendly, prompt and very helpful, she should probably be doing the cooking. It was the worst Mexican food I've had in a long time.

We have become regulars here, finding it the best "Tex-Mex" / Norteno place in GNO. Good parking lot, selection of coldbeer, full bar, ginormous menu w/ all usuals. I like large shrimp cocktail, carne asada, & carnitas de puerco fritas. Salsa is too bland. Live music on occasion. Try it ! Rick

Take Out order went smoothly: 1 Small Cheese Dip L7 Chili Con Carne L18 Fajitas, Shrimp with black beans and Mexican style corn (no tomato/pico/guac) Order was perfect, except in my enthusiasm to be precise I confused the person who took the order and they put down that I wanted corn tortillas instead of flour ones. When I arrived, I reviewed the order and noticed the mistake on the receipt and the hostess immediately addressed it with the kitchen. Food was exactly as ordered. Cheese dip was fabulous, chips were fresh, there were 16(!!!!!) shrimp with my fajita order, and the only complaint was from my guy who said he probably wouldn't order the L7 again because he didn't realize it came with a burrito and thought the burrito was strange. He loved the rest of the meal - rice, steak, cheese.

Not bad food for New Orleans area. I got pretty spoiled growing up in Texas and had a great tex mex rest. on every corner. But this place was decently priced, not bad free chips and salsa. Which is common in Texas and a staple you can count on. Food was decent. Service was good. Good Margaritas and beer on tap were 2 for 1. Only a few outdoor seats but it's nothing special anyway. And the decor inside was a little cheesy. But still quirky of a budget Mexican rest. All in all I would go here again.

Food was so good and plentiful! I had leftovers to eat 2 more times. The drinks are great as well. I had a pineapple Mojito and came back for another since it was so good. I'll be back Soon.

Love this place. It has great prices and they really don't hold back on the portions. Enough for a second meal! I got two shrimp tacos with corn tortillas with a side of the Mexican rice and the refried beans. The service is also always great. Quality food and quality service! Definitely adding this place to my frequent visits for my Mexican fix.

The bf and I have eaten here several times. The menu is large, mostly because they're suggesting a variety of combinations of their staples rather than offering a la carte. Salsa is good; chips generally aren't greasy. Refried beans aren't anything to write home about, but provide good texture when combined with the queso dip. My bf likes the enchiladas; I like the shredded chicken in the quesadillas and taco salad. This isn't a WOW place for me, but it's good enough to be on the rotation of places that we hit up on lazy don't-feel-like-cooking nights.

Great good and usually awesome service! We go here probably at least 3xs a month. The sangria margaritas are delicious and U can't beat when they offer a special, 2 for $6!! Service can be a little slow at times, but hey just have another margarita!

This is a really new Mexican place on the Westbank, and as far as Westbank Mexican places (there are a bunch) this one measures up nicely, but I wasn't blown away. I stopped in here for lunch. First of all, I love the open air space and there are tons of seating. I can see how this would probably be a cool hangout for Cinco de Mayo and a good spot to eat dinner if you have a big group of people. The menu is packed with everything you could want including Mexican inspired pasta dishes and hamburgers. I decided to keep it pretty simple with a chicken quesadilla that came with a side of re-fried beans and rice. The quesadilla was good. The chicken was grilled nicely and was spiced for flavor. The same couldn't be said for the rice and beans. They were just super bland and I would have liked it if they had had a little more "kick" to them. All in all the meal wasn't earth stopping, but it was pretty good for a lunch. Our waitress was really nice and attentive and was good at making sure that we were happy and had everything that we needed. Would I go back? Sure, but there are better choices for Mexican on the Westbank. I'll probably return in a few months after they have hit their stride.

My husband and I have been here a few times, and have really enjoyed our experience every time. The servers are friendly and attentive, and the food always tastes very fresh and delicious. Being from Texas, I've been let down by every other "Mexican" and "Tex Mex" restaurant we've been to in this area (Cheddar cheese ain't Tex Mex!), and was hesitant when we tried this place out, but was plesantly surprised on our first visit. This place is spot on with both their Tex Mex and authentic Mexican dishes. On our first visit, I had the pork carnitas, which were amazing, flavorful, tender, and juicy. I had it with their chicken soup (surprisingly cheesy, but tasty) and guacamole salad. The next time, I had the huevos chorizo. The eggs were a little dry, but the chorizo is so rich in flavor and fatty, it made up for it, and was especially delicious with some of their shockingly green habanero sauce. I had guacamole salad (I have it every time, I'm a fit girl, I need my non starchy veg!) and borracho beans, which was quite tasty. My last meal before today was their chicken ranchero with a double portion of salad. That's the only meal I wasn't fond of, because, while the meat was well seasoned, it was drowning in cheese, which was too much for me. This evening, I had the chicken fajita taco salad (minus cheese and sour cream, and I left the taco bowl behind). The meat and veggies were perfectly sautéed and seasoned, the guacamole added the right amount of richness, and the salsa from the table (Judging by the irregular cut onion, I think it's homemade! ) added some needed brightness. Overall, it was an excellent salad! My husband has gotten various combination plates, and has thuroughly enjoyed them all. The portions of all of their meals are generous, they don't skimp on meat, and everyhing is well seasoned! The dessert portions are excellent, as well! My husband and son have split an order of sopapillas (6), with a couple leftovers, and the man ordered churros on an afternoon date while our son was at school, and brought home 2 out of the three large churros that came in the order! The prices are great, portions are large, staff is friendly, and the food is delicious and what I expect when I go out for Tex Mex/Mexican!

The west bank is known for having the best Vietnamese food in the metro area. I don't think I would be stretching the truth to claim that they also have some of the best Mexican food. I'm not talking super fancy Mexican food, but good, casual places that offer great value. This is one such restaurant. The restaurant and parking area are very large. Inside the restaurant is very open and I wasn't a big fan of the layout. It seemed like there was no privacy at the tables in the center of the room, and if you sat there you would be on display for your fellow diners. I did like the booths along the walls as they seem more private and comfortable. The food is traditional Mexican or Tex-Mex fare. I am not sure how authentic it is since I have never officially been to Mexico, but it was very good. All of the items I have tried have been fresh and tasted great. They were also incredibly cheap which makes for a happy wallet when the check comes. If you're on the west bank and want good food at a great price, keep Las Cazuelas in your rotation.

If I had reviewed this restaurant after my first visit, I would have given them a 3. But they had just opened for the day and they had just opened period a few days before. The main dish was ok but the beans and soup were both cold. Turns out they had forgotten to turn on the element that morning. Ok. I can deal with that. Since that first visit, we have been back 3 times. The second and third time was because the Girly is a Mexican food junky and we have had a hard time finding a place we can both stomach. The fourth time, it was me asking to go. I was jonesing for their fried chimichanga. It's really good. Well balanced and not too salty. Served with avocado salad and 2 sides and it's a big meal. The girly usually orders beef tacos, simple and easy and not very flashy. But that's what she liked. This last time, she ordered the chicken quesadilla (Knock it off, Napoleon! Make yourself a dang Case a dilla!) It was fantastic, GOSH!. No seriously. Just like my chimichanga, it was perfectly seasoned. The customer service is usually spot-on (Might want to avoid the kid with the faux-hawk though. He's not too attentive) and the place is always sparkling clean. Oh. And if you don't want the booze but want something different, they make a great Horchata. I'm so happy it made it past the third time rule. I hate that damned rule.

What a wonderful family dining experience! The staff was very friendly and welcoming from the moment we entered the place. Our waiter, Angel, was fantastic. He checked on us frequently and always with a smile. The cheese dip, guacamole and salsa was spot on! As was the rest of our meal. I would definitely come again and recommend to other families.

I LOVE this place. The food is amazing and the prices are great. I live in Chicago for a while and they had amazing mexican food, this is one of those places that taste like what I ate in Chicago. And the best part(for me) is the horchata! Not many mexican restaurants have it and they do. The only bad thing is the parking lot isn't very big so it may be hard to find a spot close by on a really busy night. My husband is mexican and knows his stuff and he loves this place, says it reminds him of home. We very rarely try other mexican restaurants in the area because we always wind up coming back. They even have a live band playing weekends.

The place is very large. We arrived during an off time so it was relatively empty and we were given a choice of seating. We chose a booth and were given their huge menu. The menu is a book with six pages and over 100 different platters, sides, a la carte items, and plates. We made selections and ordered the Chorizo and cheese dip. The chorizo was spicy and there was a lot of it. The portion of cheese was not sufficient to cover the amount of chorizo, but it was fine. I ordered a platter with a beef and bean burrito which was ok and the best thing I got. the platter also included a chicken quesadilla, a cheese stuffed chile. The sided I chose were the refried beans and Mexican corn. All of it was just ok, nothing spectacular. I do have to say the portion sizes are large, so that's a plus.

Really good authentic food and great music. Actually this reminds of all the little mexican restaurants I used to enjoy in CA. Their fajitas are really great and their takeout is quick!

This is an authentic Mexican restaurant. 100% recommended. The food is delicious, the drinks are incredibly good and the service is excellent. This is the first authentic Mexican restaurant I find in New Orleans metro area and I'm definetly coming back. I wish I could give more stars when I come to places like this.

Had Mexican food on the brain and Yelp told me there was a new spot over over the west bank, so I made the trip across the river to check out Las Cazuealas. It is your pretty standard white-cheese-dip Tex Mex restaurant. The food was decent. Nothing remarkable but also nothing offensive either. Started with the aforementioned white cheese dip and it was kind of thick, like it had been sitting out for a little while, but definitely still edible. Shared the mixed fajitas for two. They were good, but nothing special. All of the food was pretty much what you'd expect from this kind of place. The service, however, was on the slow side. They weren't terribly busy at all, but menus, drinks, ordering, chips, refills, everything just took a long time. Our queso came out before the chips and salsa, which came out before our drinks. The food was also on the slow side in arriving. Fortunately we paid in cash so we did get to avoid waiting there. I'll probably go back and give them another shot the next time I'm in the area. However, I doubt I'll make another trip over with the sole purpose of eating here.

I love the open space design of the restaurant and the fact that they have a bar area but both the food and service are somewhat lacking. The one thing that all good mexican restaurants should do good is the taco but the taco's here are below average. I make better taco's at home. Two people at our table actually got taco's with a stale shell last night. I've never had that happen to me before. Had to send it back but we didn't see our waitress again for about 15 minutes and there was nobody in the restaurant. I would say the best thing i have tried here is the cheese enchilada. The prices are good, location is nice but i just wish they would step it up a bit on the quality of food. I don't like their ground meat at all. The re-fried beans and rice were bland. There are much better options for mexican on the westbank but hoping for better in the future from this place

One of the best chile relleno I've ever had in my life. I'm keeping this place in my rotation of good eats. The staff was amazing, the waitress I had was fast, and had everything timed perfectly. We were seated fast, and had to take half the meal home because it was so big (love leftovers)

See my review of Los Tres Amigos. Same owners. This restaurant has a bigger menu with pasta dishes and more/different sides. Love it. The pina colada served in the fresh pineapple shell is incredible. all the food is good, just like the Los Tres Amigos in Harvey on Lapalco which is closed due to a fire. I will have to admit, we don't like the magician. He's a jerk and mean to kids when they "figure out" his tricks. He has actually yelled at my children. We purposely do not eat there on Saturday nights but it's not the restaurant's fault the guy is a wiener. one of the best cheese dips ever.

I guess you can't give 1/2 stars because I would have given it 2 1/2. Hubby & I decided to give it a try. We started out w/ the chips & salsa. There is nothing more disappointing to a Chips & Salsa attic like myself than Salsa that taste like sgetti sauce. Especially coming from a MEXICAN RESTAURANT! I had the fajita's which were ok. Not to bad. My hubby had the Seafood Enchilata's & it gave him the drizzlets. For those who do not know the term, it is the runny poops. There was a live 3-man band for the background, front, & movie parking lot across the street, music which was way to loud. They were good singers but I would have preferred to still have my hearing when I left the place. The service was good. Price wasn't bad. Overall the food just didn't do it for me.

Nothing big, your typical Mexican restaurant. However the selection is huge, even vegetarian dishes, and their ingredients seem quite fresh. However the salsa tasted like ketchup with cilantro, the guacamole was store or package bought and the mole lacked its characteristic zing. All in all there are better places cropping up on the Westbank, like blissful delicious weeds, all over the place. But then again its better than Zea's or Friday's across the street!

The first thing I noticed about Las Cazuelas Grill was that most of the tables were configured for groups of six or more. This is noteworthy to me because I often dine out with large groups and it's rare to find a restaurant that is happy to accommodate. (Most do it grudgingly.) I started off with a small banana Margarita, priced at $5.25. When I got the bill at the end of the meal, it was listed as $7.50. I didn't want to make a bill deal about it, but will be sure to check next time in case the extra charge is because it was a flavored Margarita. The chips and salsa were absolutely excellent. Chips were freshly fried and not stale. Salsa was chunky and spicy. I ordered a combo plate with a chicken flauta, chile relleno, taco, beef enchilada and beef burrito. It came with a side of guacamole and pico de gallo and the side item of my choice. I chose rice, which was very bland. The chicken flauta and taco were good. The chile relleno was soggy. Beef enchilada and beef burrito were indistinguishable, both had the same red sauce on top. They were okay. I believe this combo plate was the most expensive thing on the menu at $12.99, so it was a good deal. The portion size was very large. I ate the entire flauta and taco, which satisfied me since I had already eaten my weight in chips and salsa. I ended up taking the rest of the rice, enchilada, burrito and chili relleno home. It is enough for another meal but since it wasn't that great I probably won't bother eating it. My friends and I split some flan, it was scrumptious. Everyone else's dishes looked good, especially my friend's chicken soup, which was offered as a side item when ordering a combo plate. The waitress was nice and made a good effort. She was kind to offer to split the checks after we dined, in spite of the fact that we had not requested it before we ordered. There was a credit card mix-up but easily resolved with no grumbling. It's conveniently located directly across the street from the movie theater, so we will probably go back.

My husband and I enjoy coming here for dinner and the occasional drink. The food is pretty good, and there is a great variety. The service is so/so, we've had both good and bad. More so average.

I had a good experience. The waiter was really nice and efficient. I ordered one of the combination dishes to get a taste of what they had to offer: the enchilada, tamal, and taco. It was good. The sauces were really rich. The chorizo/ queso was spicy and a lot more chorizo than cheese...be prepared. A lot of food! Hopefully the leftovers are good tomorrow!

Place is fixed up and nice but with it being new it has a lot of flaws... The tacos taste like normal tacos you would taste as school lunch.

  • Joni P.

I would have given 5 stars if the waitress would have checked on us more. The food was great, I had a shredded beef burrito along with rice, and beans... The salsa and cheese dip were really good as well... The place was very clean, bathroom was clean, the seating was good, and we were seated quickly... We will be returning... I just hope that the waitress checks on us more next time...

I don't think I would go back at least for a year. The margaritas were more overpriced than superior grill. And there are different sizes and glasses for top shelf vs regular (or at least that was my understanding from the minimally english speaking wait staff) . If you are going to charge $13.50 for less than 20 oz, it better be strong! The food tasted good but was served at less than room temperature. The service was horrible. Staff spoke limited english so asking questions about menu items was out the window. I think this place has a lot of kinks to iron out, so I may go back in a year if they make it.

good food ,good service but the best of all is the margaritas

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
