We were first time visitors to this establishment a few hours ago. Not impressed at all to say the least. Our experience wasn't very positive at all unfortunately. Sad Because I've been excited to try this place out for some time now. The staff today were not very friendly, nor helpful. That was very discouraging in itself especially for a first timer. The lunch we had was nothing to really brag about, we had French dip sandwiches. I made the mistake of ordering raspberry lemonade it was so sweet that I got a sugar buzz from the first sip and couldn't finish the rest!!!! My hubby's lemonade was hot and overly sweet also. I doubt we will ever return here for lunch or dinner again. MIGHT try some if those yummy looking desserts though!

Standard as all the la Madeleine bakeries go. Dessert case is always beautiful and impressive, filled with fruit tarts, lemon tarts, croissants, pain au chocolat, sacher tortes, cookies, tiramisu, and cheesecakes, oh my! Soooo pretty.... however, when you order your pastries, the counter help will not take it from the display case, but from a cart or cooling rack close to the register. the help got some nasty attitude...lazy and very spiteful...she didn't want to do her job that she was getting paid to do, that is to help me! her lazy butt grabbed my stuff, but she didn't offer a bag to carry the pastries, nor any to go utensils....she didn't give me my credit card receipt and proceeded to crumple it up and throw it away. what a bitch! on to the food: yummy! it's nice to know that la madeleine's a chain, so of course all the recipes are standard...delicious tiramisu with a fantstic soft spongy cake serving as a crust..and the whipped custard...so light and the hint of coffee..man im drooling..so good. it's crazy, but this location is on the busy section of clearview...so of course the foot traffic is mad crazy with Starbucks and Sprint/Nextel store next door....

I had a hard time trying to decide if it was worth the bother. But this is a chain store cafe masquerading as a restaurant, so they need a review. Firstly it is very confusing for a new person to discovered where to order your food. There is a buffet line with things that have nothing to do with ordering your lunch or dinner. Unfortunately you'll need to break in line to order unless you enjoy standing in line for items you don't plan to order. Who thought that was a good idea? The staff do not explain the food options on your order options very well either. I ordered one of the holiday specials and mentioned the items listed with it. Yet I was asked about my side. Confused I asked about some of them. So I ended up with those instead of what I wanted. Calling greasy hash-browns that sit under a heat-lamp a `Potato Galette` was as confusing as calling their chocolate cake a `torte`. Neither label is particularly accurate, giving it a fancy name doesn't make it a thing or make it taste better. A torte is a multi-layered cake typically filled with whipped cream, butter creams, jam or fruit. It was none of that. It was a chocolate cake topped with chocolate ganache. On top of that, my cake was dry. Then my order came out missing some things, like those items mentioned in the menu that were replaced when I was asked about sides. None of which was explained to me. At least I went back to get the mushroom sauce for my dry chicken, otherwise it would have been particularly hard to eat.

Great for breakfast or lunch the soup is the best, its kind of hard to screw up salad. The entrees vary I like most of the pastas, and some sandwiches but some are not that great no matter how many times i order it. The desserts are average I usually make the trip to haydels if they are opened.

Had the coconut cake that was pretty good. Limited menu but great environment and service.

Online order was fulfilled in a timely fashion, and the baked goods have always been fresh. Though it's good for pick-up orders, it can be hard to find seating for large groups.

Nice ambience on the weekend. Many tables near the windows so there is a lot of natural light. Had breakfast there. Fluffy scrambled eggs, crispy bacon and warm croissant. Friend had the crepe which had a lot of sweet cream and strawberries.

Like this place, but it's easy to spend over $50 for a breakfast for two. Crepes and omelettes are my favourites here. If you arrive in time for brunch, you'll definitely want to get a French onion soup with your meal.

I want to preface this by saying that I eat at La Madeleine 3-5 times a week because I have always loved the food and atmosphere. I split my time between three different cities and frequent La Madeleine in all of them on a regular basis. My fiance and I recently went to the location on Citrus Ave. in Harahan because we wanted a relaxing breakfast in a familiar spot, and La Madeleine is one of our favorites. We got there and they were out of oatmeal, brown sugar, crepes, romanoff sauce, and bacon. After making three attempts to order standard items off of the menu and being told they couldn't make what we wanted, we were able to come up with something that they had. We sat at a table in the corner by the fireplace. My fiance was upset about a personal matter that we are dealing with, and he had his head on my shoulder and we were holding hands as we sat next to each other eating. I want to emphasize that we were not doing anything you couldn't do in any public setting and were not even kissing. Every now and then I would give him a quick hug or ruffle his hair. That was the extent of it. I got up to get him a drink refill and a staff member approached me in a very hostile way and told me that we needed to be more respectful, I needed to tell my fiance to stop being so intimate, there were kids watching us, and it was inappropriate. I honestly thought she was kidding at first. That is how ridiculous this was. She repeated herself and told me again that my fiance was "too intimate" and that we were "very inappropriate" and again indicated that it is a "family restaurant." I know exactly what kind of restaurant it is. I eat there almost every day, and have never seen or experienced another incident there in which adults who are keeping to themselves were asked to modify their behavior or leave in order to accommodate kids whose chaperone doesn't even have the decency to teach them basic table manners. I was stunned. First of all, her accusations were completely out of line, and her assumptions about what we were doing were inaccurate. If we had truly been doing something inappropriate, I would understand. But we weren't, and that's what made the whole incident so infuriating. She felt compelled to publicly scold us and humiliate us in order to put on a show for a man who was eating alone with two (poorly mannered) kids and complained because his kids were 'staring at us'. Clearly these people are the shining example of proper etiquette in public places. I wish I had confronted him and told him that if he doesn't want his kids to see other people interacting with each other in completely normal ways, or he wants an environment in which everyone modifies their behavior to accommodate his kids, he needs to either keep them home or go to Chuck-E-Cheese or one of its equivalents. My fiance and I are both extremely conservative and would never engage in the type of PDA she was accusing us of. Once I realized that her threats and accusations weren't some sort of joke, I was embarrassed and offended by her suggestions and her confrontation. I went back to our table and told my fiance what had happened. She followed me and proceeded to confront my fiance as well, repeating her garbage about how we were so inappropriate and shouldn't be 'intimate' in a 'family restaurant'. At that point we asked to see a manager. I will say that the manager was very understanding and apologetic. She was nice and I think she handled the situation as best as she could. She refunded our money and gave us a gift card, but honestly, the experience left such a bad taste in my mouth that I have no desire to return to this or any La Madeleine location. I don't know if the woman who confronted us was disciplined. I sincerely hope so. This is something that never should have happened and I feel that the employee handled it in an unbelievably inappropriate manner. When I had time to reflect on it later, I also decided that I feel like the employee should have apologized to us because her behavior was completely out of line, and there's really no excuse for it. We were not doing anything wrong and we were deeply hurt and offended by the treatment we received.

It's ok, seems a little bit like a chain restaraunt.

So, La Madeleine is a great place to get something fairly healthy, fairly quickly. It's always nice when the fireplace is lit; great for a cold January day.

I was pleasantly surprised with La Madeleine. I went with a friend that had been before, and he described it as "cafeteria like" which had me worried. I had a ham & swiss sandwich and it was delish. It was on a fancy garlic-y type bread and I only wish I had paid more attention so I could try to make it at home. The portions were a decent size, too. Next time I'm in the area I'll stop in to try some of the pastries or other offerings they have.

I enjoy this place a lot! The food is fresh and the atmosphere is great. I'm a college student, and I often meet classmates to study. We find ourselves able to study and do work together comfortably inside or outside. The service is a little lacking, but I enjoy this place, the atmosphere, and the location.

Two words: Glorified Piccadilly. I have been here twice. The first time I ordered the Parisian breakfast. Wasn't too impressed. The second time I ordered some quiche + soup. (Specials for the day.) They were both tolerable but nothing noteworthy. Im just not real crazy about this place. There are too many other local + delicious breakfast eateries in town. I'd rather spend my money on food that I don't have to carry to my table via a plastic cafeteria tray.

Terrible. Terrible terrible. I was greeted by a not so nice lady saying " what ya havin"? Well, good morning. Then when I asked for a cup for the drink I paid for she said for what? Food is terrible. Won't be back.

It has been a long time since I have visited this location. Ironically, I used to come here when I worked nearby. I usually go to the Severn location nowadays but decided to come here for soup. I was surprised at the change or updates done and hope the same will occur at their Severn location. I was greeted by several employees which I liked and who doesn't like learning some French words there. I ordered the potato soup as well as the paella. Soup was great along with the paella. If I am in the neighborhood I will visit again!

Service was terrible. TERRIBLE. Went for lunch on a Saturday, and the workers in the front were incredibly rude and the "cooks" in the back were goofing off. I also tried getting a coffee here one time and ordered from the coffee/pastry register and the girl looked at me like I was speaking a different language: "Large coffee with almond flavor" Food is always reliable: salads, soups, pastries, sandwiches. Always pretty good.

The pastries are good, but make sure you get a receipt especially if you are paying cash. I realized I was overcharged the next day when I calculated the price of each pastry vs how many I bought. I didnt not see her enter the amount I gave her into the register so the receipt will print. I didnt receive change because she said she got my 45 cents. I actually think she kept the money bc it was still in her hand as I walked out the door. BEWARE!

On our way from the airport we stopped here for breakfast and a conference call for work. At first glance it appears to be a cafeteria style place but the dining area was warm and inviting , even had a fire going. The breakfast menu was simple so we ordered the French country breakfast. Egss, croissant, bacon and potato gelette. Simply delicious, the croissant was light and fluffy. Before we even sat down we were greeted by Faith, a real southern New Orleans character. She attended to us during our dining plus shared stories of her family. She also brought a free loaf of bread after we chose from 3 different varieties. She was worth the visit and we would definitely recommend this place for the.food also.

I am all for sandwich and soup and salad, deli-type places. I am a big fan. This is the second time I've been here and both times have been just normal. I had the chicken caesar salad, and you can't really mess that up, but there are ways to make it special. This wasn't special although my expectations weren't that high. I got one of the desserts as well, but I forget what it was called. It look like a slice of cake, but it was a pastry. The dough was neither chewy or soft, but hard and a little difficult to eat. I couldn't cut it with a knife or pull down with a fork. The food is mediocre. It's not amazing or disgusting. A little overpriced for mediocre food in my opinion. I'd rather hit up McAlister's or Panera Bread.

Their soup is their most redeeming feature, although I do appreciate the free French lessons piped in the radio in the restroom. like any fast foodish type place, there are some quirks, but I feel satisfied when I eat here and feel like I get a good value for my money. Even the pickiest eater should be able to find somethng to dive into here. I mean who doesn't eat potato patties?

SAY IT AINT SOOOO! My childhood bond with my mother and a place at 25 years old still frequent 3-5 times per week, la Madeline (elmwood) might be failing this yelper:( I am currently having lunch with two friends of mine and when I approached the line(order ready, as usual) the woman behind the salad bar kept telling me the cost of what I was ordering and asking me if I knew the size. I'm sorry but am I wrong for taking offense to this? If she came to the bar I work at and I did that I'm sure my manager would be asked for. Then I move to the register where again I am questioned then while I'm making my drink he manger shouts over "what did she ring you up for?" Ugh rant over I'll just stick to take out that way I don't have to deal with multiple employees...

La Madeleine in case you don't already know is a chain of cafe's. The harahan location in particular is a quite good location in the middle of the Elmwood shopping area. It is a good place to grab a light meal, or catch up with your friends. The ambiance of the cafe is quite pleasant and has a rustic elegance to it. When you enter there is slight confusion about where to go to place an order. This happens at all la madeleine cafes due to the cafeteria style approach that they have adopted. However this all goes away as soon as the food has arrived at the table. The food is delicious but its small portions leave you wanting more. I would highly reccommend getting a duo or trio this enables you to get some variety. It is basically the salad, soup and sandwich. I love the tomato basil soup and the baguette here. There is also a wide selection of fresh baked pastries and breads that go well with your coffee. However I would not really come here for the coffee... it would be the desserts that lure me in. Word of advice remember this is a cafe and not a restaurant: otherwise it will leave you satisfied but wanting more.

My biggest problem with this location? It never seems too clean...the floors, the tables. Let's just hope the kitchen is OK. I like their salads and love the tomato basil soup and their savory pastries are usually OK. Yes the sweet pastries are tasty, but honestly I'd rather patronize a non-chain. But that's just me being snobby (or shop locally or whatever). This is a solid choice for quick (but not fast, y'know) lunch especially if you're alone.

I happened to find myself at La Madeleine in Harahan for Sunday breakfast via a series of totally random events. I had no idea what to expect going in but was pleasantly surprised. I'm glad I didn't read the reviews prior to going, otherwise I doubt I would have given it a try. Before this visit, I was not familiar with La Madeleine and had no idea it was a chain. I assumed by the name that it would at least have a French flair and also assumed by the fact that it was open for breakfast that pastries would be involved. Correct on both points. I found the staff to be very friendly and helpful (perhaps it was the total deer-in-headlights look in our eyes upon walking in and not being quite sure how to proceed.) You go through a line to place your order, fix your own drinks and they bring your food out to your table when it's ready. I am not a fan of the whole order-at-counter business model, so that part definitely turned me off a little. They had a breakfast menu plus a pastry case full of what appeared to be quite delicious treats. I'm a sucker for chocolate crossiant because they remind me of a summer in Paris as a teenager and bring back a flood of great memories. They had a mini version, so I got one. I also ordered a breakfast sandwich off the menue (crossiant with scrambled eggs, cheese and bacon) plus coffee. My companion ordered the French breakfast. We both enjoyed our food very much. The coffee was passable but nothing to write home about. The total for two people was right at $20, which I thought was very reasonable for what we got. The soups caught my eye when we were ordering. I adore tomato basil soup and I regret not trying it while I was there. One of the servers was dishing up a bowl of potato soup while we were ordering that looked absolutely incredible. Seeing the soups prompted me to check out their web site after I got home. I've driven by the locations on Carrollton and Severn countless times and never made the connection that it was chain. I definitely plan to go back for lunch at some point in the future for a half of a croque monsieur and cup of tomato basil soup. To sum it up... Would I bring an out of town guest to La Madeleine for breakfast? Not a chance. Will I go back if I happen to be in the area and looking for a quick bite? Absolutely.

This was my first time visiting La Madeline. I thought it was just a pastry place. They had a lunch style setup with salads, soups, sandwiches and more. I really didn't care much for their menu I'm not a big quiche type of girl. They also had a bakery section with yummy treats as the croissants and those yummy fruity tarts!

This is like a somewhat upscale Panera Bread... with upscale prices. You basically get to choose from some soups, salads, and sandwiches, along with a few heartier meals like quiche and pasta. Everything that I have tried here is really good, but I feel bad paying that much for a soup and sandwich. That being said, the pastries and other bakery items are AMAZING and totally worth the price. This is usually what gets me in here - lunch (typically a sandwich and their delicious tomato basil soup), with some sort of dessert to go. I didn't even know this was a chain until I googled it to look up the menu one day. If we had a Panera Bread here, I would probably prefer their selection of food... but we don't, so La Madeline is a good alternative for a light (but pricey) lunch. Just don't forget dessert!

My husband and I frequent this place at least 2-3 times a month and I must say the service is always on par, and last night the staff had really gone over and above for us. We had to wait a while for our food (which wasn't really that long, maybe 25 mintues tops), and when the server brought us our food, he apologized for the "long wait" and gave us two $10 gift cards! Aside from the service, I've never been disappointed with my order; the food is always good and hot. And on chillier evenings, the fireplace is a nice amenity. Two thumbs up!!!

I don't get to this location often, but whn I do, I always receive great service. It's to teh point that it's almost sickening. The food is the same menu as other locations. I prefer the French Breakfast when eating here early in the morning. For lunch and dinner, sandwiches are my favorite menu item. LaMadeleine has a pretty cool atmosphere when I am just in the mood to relax and read the paper or jsut enjoy conversation with the people that I am with.

Nice alternative to your average deli. Great sandwiches, tarts, soups, fresh bread, croissants...the list goes on. In my opinion this would beat out subway or any like it every day. Eating in is set up cafeteria style...gives you room for impulse buys. They also do great take out. A word to the wise, the rotisserie chicken sells out fast so order early if you want it for dinner.

La Madeleine used to be one of the best places to go in the morning for a French breakfast back in the day. Nowadays, the cat is out of the bag when it comes to their tomato basil soup and pastries. While those two things on the menu are still big hits to customers, I find that the other items on their menu seem to be lacking a bit. One item I usually get is the Croque Monsieur which is according the menu is "a classic French twist on the ham and cheese sandwich made with tender ham, warm Swiss and our savoury garlic cream sauce." It's one of their better sandwiches but sometimes it can come out a bit greasy. Overall, it's a decent place to grab a meal but there are better places out there that serve authentic French cuisine.
