So I moved to the area a year ago from south Texas. That being said, THANK GOODNESS WE FOUND THIS PLACE! Large portions for the price, nice staff, clean place, good food. I was hoping to one day find a good Mexican food restaurant around here and El Tucan is the one. I'm always nervous trying new places but with the reviews I read we gave it a try and are glad we did. It looks a little shady from the outside but trust me, it's going to be ok! Hope my review helps someone else find good food!

Great food & friendly staff! The portions are huge too! My husband had the steak & chicken fajitas & I had the Burrito Acapolco & we couldn't finish it. Most Mexican restaurants we've been to will serve you more rice & beans or grilled veggies than meat. That was definitely not the case here. They also serve free hand dipped ice cream cones. Here are the hours as they're not listed above..... Mon thru Thurs 11:00am to 10:00pm Fri & Sat 11:00am to 10:30pm Sunday 11:00am to 10:00pm *it's nice to have a restaurant in DeQuincy opened on Sundays that's not fast food!

Hands down, best Mexican in the area. We've tried a few different Mexican places between Dequincy and lake Charles and always compare it to El Tucan. Nothing has come close!! Lunch prices are super reasonable and portions are huge!! Cheese dip, get it. It's amazing. Dinner is more pricey, but you will have to take half your plate home so it's worth the price..huge portions off set that. We've had several different items and haven't been disappointed with anything! My personal favorite is their Chicken chimichanga. We eat here at least once a week

I normally would take away a Star because this place does not have a liquor license (so no margaritas - a crime at any decent Mex place), nor is it BYOB. But this food is legit. I would put this joint up against any Taqueria in Houston - it's that good. Yummy chips & tortillas. Cheese dip is above average. I wish their salsa had some kick, but after ordering the Carbon tacos, I will ask for the sauce/pico mix they serve on the side to use for the chips. It's sooooooooooo good. They are missing out on a golden opportunity to kill it in the chips & salsa department. If the owner would move closer to the Railroad Museum & get a liquor license & a killer margarita menu, this place would be a destination in Calcasieu Parish. Run here. Don't walk. It's that good.

Good food and good service. Tried the "Fajitas Across the Border" basically mixed fajitas. This was enough for two and then some. The white cheese dip was very good. I'm sure you too will enjoy this quaint little place.

I was very excited to see a Tex-Mex restaurant pop up in DeQuincy! Living in Houston we have the best Tex-Mex around so my expectations were very high. The food was good, needed more seasoning for sure and more heat but I suppose for the area it works. The salsa is OK, needs more heat and cilantro but again good with the chips (the chips are amazing!). The price is a little high in my opinion; we fed 4 people for $80 with tip and that is a little high for a small town restaurant in my opinion.

Very good food, portions and wait staff food could have been spiced up a lot more but probably just right for people in the big DQ all in all great place to eat and my son loved the free ice cream when we were leaving

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
