I'd like to give this establishment 3 stars for potential. It is a great concept, and one I have been looking for for a while now. Wine, small plates, class, live music, and patio. All the elements that make a place somewhere I wanna be! I had a decent experience on my first time at Wino's and Taco's( and actually had a really good time) but they could certainly use a little work. My only complaints are: the wait staff...including the hostess and bartenders. It wasn't too busy of a night and service just wasn't that great. The hostess wasn't very helpful, the waitress took about 15 mins to help us, while we sat at a table, and then we're informed that the kitchen was closed( it was 10:30pm on a Friday night) so that kind of put a damper on my night bc I didn't eat just so I could try these awesome tacos people rave about. The waitress did offer to get us chips and salsa, so that was nice. The bartenders were extremely slow getting our beers also. And THEN right after the band stopped, a woman starts vacuuming right under our feet!! It was actually kind of humorous! So that's when I took off the second star. All that to say... I would return to try those damn tacos! Seems like a cool, classy place with a cool mixed crowd of people. A little older, but def. a relief from all the frat dudes that go to Chimes( and that place is a piece of shit, btw)

Stopped in here one day while waiting for my son to finish up his class at Delgado.I only had an hour so I was hoping to be able to get in and out. It was on a Wednesday night and it was pretty empty. There was a free wine tasting so we got to try out some wine from Washington state. I can't remember the label name but the wine was horrible...NOT a fan, but I guess I'm pretty picky after attending many wine tasting in vineyards at Napa Valley. My husband and I ordered the guacamole and chips and salsa. They were all pretty good. Then for our meal we ordered the carne asada and fish tacos. Surprisingly the tacos came out in homemade corn tortillas! BONUS points for that! I was pretty impressed at how well they tasted. The meat was nice and tender and well seasoned. The red pepper sauce was perfect. I had a Malbec wine, I can't remember the label of that one either, but it was pleasant. If I was going to be there longer I would have ordered another glass. :) Overall this place was pretty nice and I would go back again. I got in, didn't have to wait forever for food, had great wine and got out with no issues or problems.

I went here the night of the Abita Strawberry pub crawl, so it was super crowded. I'm not sure if that's the case every Friday night, but because of that I think our service suffered a bit. The waitress comp'd glasses of wine for our troubles, so it ended up being okay. I had the fish tacos, and they were really good. It was not very expensive either, so I felt our end result bill was a great deal. I have not been back yet, but I intend to go back. It's kind of small to have a band playing, plus it can get kind of loud in there, so a quiet and romantic dinner may be best ate somewhere else. They have a patio in the back for sitting outside, which was cool too. I had never been here when it was the pizza place, but I thought the setup gave it a good atmosphere too.

Winos & Tacos.... Oh Lawd!! Let's start with the good. PROS: - super location in downtown Covington. - They did a great job with interior decor. A bit pretentious (especially considering the name!) but, well done. - Outside area has it's own bar & plenty of seating on multiple, connected patios. Much more casual vibe out here. - The chips & Salsa were some of the best I've had anywhere. - Decent beers available. CONS: - The portions were quite skimpy. This is not something we Nola natives see often! Thank goodness!! - The menu wasn't descriptive enough. For ex: When one orders tacos the traditional / industry standard size tacos are expected. Not teeny tiny tacos!! Another dish (the name escapes me) was prepared in a nontraditional manner. Descriptive language &/ or pictures would have been a help. - Food prices were very high vs. Portions & ingredients. - Our server was poorly trained/ had no knowledge of the menu or specials/ didn't check back often enough. - I almost forgot!!! Food was served on paper plates with plastic ware. For the prices charged this was a real no- no in my opinion. Especially the plastic ware!!! Even with the cons, I'd go back here to have some beers on the patio anytime!! I'd also be willing to try some appetizers. I do need to try this place again!! I might be updating my review with lots of positives. I hope so!!!

I found Winos and Tacos about two weeks ago when my father and I decided to go out for Mexican. We had heard good things, and now I can't stop finding excuses to go there! First thing first! Chips & dip. The chips are great! I've never had chips like this before. I imagine what they do is make fresh tortillas in the back (thick style) and flash fry them. If you abundantly like pita chips over plain potato chips, then you'll feel similarly about this. The drinks are 'refined' - What I mean is that although they will A) Get you buzzed fast, and B) taste great (both VERY important of course), the drinks are also a talking point. My father and I both got a second drink out of curiosity. The tastes are unique and different. The dark & stormy was not my favorite drink that I tried that day, but I DO like a dark & stormy and theirs was so good that I'm now adding lime juice to my drink whenever I order or make a dark & stormy. The drinks are good. Simple, they are not. Food - I had tacos on both occasions. The pork tacos are hands down the best tacos I've ever had. I can think of only two tacos I've had that have come close and even then, it's by a large margin.

A friend and I met there for lunch a few weeks ago. The service was okay. The food was just decent and overpriced. EVERY Mexican restaurant serves complimentary chips and salsa, but Winos and Tacos does not - you have to order and pay for them. The salsa was a bit watery, lacked salt and was just on the bland side. The chips were crispy at least. We each ordered a taco plate. Mine was so outstanding that I don't even remember what the meat was. I think it was carne asada but I'm not sure. I received three SMALL soft tacos laid out on a plate. It was on the dry side and just plain. Honestly, there is more focus on the "Winos" part of the name than the tacos. When a restaurant continually posts more photos of their cocktails on their Facebook page than they do of their food, it really should tell you something. That being said, I'd be willing to give them one more shot, just in case we caught them on a bad day but I am not overly hopeful. I'm bummed about it too because I REALLY wanted to like the place.

Stopped in for dinner last night about 745 pm. Crowded and noisy but my GF and I got the only open table. Hostess and server were attentive and we started with chips n salsa which was excellent. Grabbed a mixture of tacos and they were good. The green goop in the squeeze bottles will not come thru the opening? ??

This place would have received five stars were their service even half as good as the food. As it stands, the food is great! Scratch made Mexican food done in Jalisco or Baja style, with great flavors permeating every dish we ordered. My wife and I split carnitas tacos, braised chicken tacos, and a shrimp quesadilla. All were fantastic. The house made corn tortillas are fantastic, and the house made chips are incredibly good. Salsas were good, though we preferred the tomatillo green to the smoky tomato red. Their wine list is not extensive, but it is good, with many good bottles in each varietal. We didn't try any of the tequilas, but I'm sure they have the standards plus a few more. We returned a couple of days later for lunch, and I had the carnitas torta, which was pretty good, though the bread was a pistolette and not a traditional torta roll. I miss the soft breads used in California taquerias, and, really, that was their only miss on food, and it was minor. Their patio is large an covered with a bar and cigars available to smoke. All in all, a great experience, as long as you're okay with waiting a long time for service/food. We waited for a solid 35 minutes for food at lunch even though there couldn't have been more than a dozen people in the place.

Went here a week ago with a buddy, not knowing what to expect. I assumed it would be a trendy/ dive type taqueria. I was pleasantly surprised and disapointed at the same time. For starters the chips and salsa, salsa specifically, was the best I've had in Louisiana. I used to live in Texas so it's been a nightmare trying "mexican" food in Louisiana. They crushed it with the salsa, which is saying a lot in my opinion. I also ordered a margarita which was fine, nothing special but certainly nothing wrong with it, so I was happy. I ordered the entree which was sirloin strips with greens ( trying to remember if it was collard or turnip ) and potatoes. It was really good, except I'm not a huge fan of sirloin due to chewiness, but it was all cooked very well. The only disappointment for me, through no fault of their own, is that I miss the Texas style taquerias with all the tacos you could wish for for under $10. Man how I miss that. I definitely recommend this joint, and they're newly open so it can only go up from here. This could be a great chill date spot or a place to go with your buddies

This place exceeded my expectations for a Columbia street restaurant . The food is phenomenal and the customer service is top notch. We relocated from the table to the courtyard on a chilly night to immediately be assisted with overhead heaters as well as blankets for the ladies ... This place is 5 star in my eyes .. And I will be a regular patron .. Thanks for the experience ...

Several weeks ago my friend was trying to plan a dinner for her daughter's 18th birthday. When she asked for my input, I suggested WAT, which led her to calling for a reservation. Fast forward...On January 18th, I picked up the cakes and headed to meet my friend at said restaurant where she had a 7pm reservation (got there at 6:30pm). As I walked in, I found our party already seated at a reserved table with food and drinks....and in distress. Someone who appeared to be a GM or owner was telling our party that they were mistaken and that they did not take reservations and would not be able to accommodate us but for the icy cold patio. He had to be mistaken, right? I mean, if they did not take reservations, why did they tell us that they would accommodate us and take down our information earlier in the week. And why, pray tell, were there two sets of tables clearly marked with reserved signs? Do you take reservations or not? Or if you only take reservations for your friends, then why not just close your doors now and throw a flippin' dinner party? The person handling the situation then proceeded to invite us back on another night and they would comp our meal...really...maybe we will be back for the birthday girl's next 18th birthday. The worst customer service ever.
